Great professor, difficult topic. Dr. Burge makes learning about the entire national economy in 16 weeks seem less terrifying.
Dr. Burge is a great professor. If you read your chapters, and do the online assignments, the tests shouldn't be a problem. Attendance isn't mandatory, but his lectures are structured well, and will prepare you for the material on the exams.
Such an awesome professor and really cares about his students. Class is just lecture and reading off the powerpoint so attendance isn't really necessary. But you have to study really hard for the tests just because econ is a difficult subject.
Mr. B was an all around great teacher. His class was structured well and he really tries to do everything in his power to help you succeed in this tough subject, including some extra credit. You automatically get plus 10% for every test, but that should tell you something. His tests were quite tough and require a lot of studying
I loved Dr.B! He cares about his student and is a great guy! If you get the chance, go to his office hours and really get to know him. He gives extra credit on all of his test. He's the man!
Dr. Burge is a great professor who cares about your success. Many extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Class attendance is not mandatory, but his lectures helped tremendously with understanding for the test. Do the homework and practice exams and you should be fine. You will have to study hard to get an A.
Really enjoyed this class, he is an overall really good teacher. The class is was in had 500 people, so it was very lecture heavy and it took awhile to get used to. But he and his TA's have a lot of office hours that they're available. The homework is all online and easy. I had to study a lot for the tests. A lot of extra credit available.
Dr. Burge is a very good econ professor! The class is tough but the tests were all multiple choice and not ridiculously hard.
Dr. Burge was a great teacher if you actually went to the lectures. He is very passionate about economics and enjoys teaching his students. It is not required to go to class, and you can still get a good grade without going. The homework are all LearnSmarts and very easy. There are 4 tests and a make up at the end that will replace your lowest test
Dr. Burge is an incredibly nice guy who is willing to help with any and everything you might need. He curves his tests and has a fairly lenient grading policy. Easy A if you give effort.
Absolutely wonderful professor, his lectures are genuinely interesting and he does his best to keep your attention. He is a caring professor and is willing to help outside of class and provides review sessions for his exams. One of my favorite teacher's.
Great professor. The tests come from the same bank as the homework questions. Favorite class this semester.
If you are taking Macro or Micro and have chance to take his class i would not pass on the chance, all test have a ten point curve right of the bat. He is very good a delivering the information is a beginner level to understand the material. He also gives extra credit for the class if the class attendance is over 70% for the course. Extremely nice.
I would definitely recommend Burge. The course was somewhat difficult, but he is a great person and teacher. Take him!
Macro Econ course. Dr. Burge is awesome! Good lectures. Be prepared to read, learn independently, & extensively use online textbook. Very understand/flexible if you have scheduling conflicts. Good communication/available by email even in lecture hall of 500-600 students. Tough tests, but TA's & office hours are helpful. 10 point curve every test.
Grades on a point system. 100 for the online learn smarts, 100 for each exam. Curves exams by 10 points and offers a make up exam at the end of the semester that replaces your lowest exam grade. Lecture is interesting and he keeps you engaged. Read the lecture slides before class, do the learn smarts before class. Do the work and you'll get an A
He doesn't take attendance so you don't have to go. The homework is all online and is so easy. He gives a 10 point curve on all your tests and if enough people go to class, he gives everyone a 10 point bonus at the end of the semester. Theres four tests, and a make up exam that can replace your lowest test grade. Test are kinda tough though
Dr. Burge is just an amazing person. He made a seemingly uninteresting and difficult class into something that I genuinely looked forward to everyday. Since it is Macro, it will be somewhat difficult for students, however, you will find a new appreciation for economics and college in general by taking Dr. Burge's class.
Dr. B was great! I definitely recommend going to lectures, I didn't until the second half of the semester and had to work really hard at the end to keep an A. There are 4 tests, all worth 20% of your grade, but they're multiple choice and manageable if you go to lectures and study!
Dr. B is really great! He gives a 10 point curve on every test, which is extremely helpful. Also, attendance isn't mandatory.
Super nice guy. He understands that a lot of people don't like econ so he tries to make class fun. get ready for at least two long homework assignments every week.
Just a kind guy. Easy to get an A or a B. Lectures are pretty boring and it's hard to pay attention. He kind of blabs but is so nice and cares about how you are doing in the class. 10 point curve on every test and homework is easy and doable. No accumulative final and gives a lot of extra credit.
He is such a nice guy! You have to study for the tests but they aren't terrible, and he offers a ton of extra credit
Dr.B is the best professor you can take at OU. You have few homework assignments and 4 exams plus an optional exam to replace a lower exam score. A 10 point curve is added to every exam. Attend lectures and you will receive more extra credit! Overall, a very nice guy and he gives very good lectures. 110% recommend this class.
Being I'm not very good at econ, this class was a challenge but he is very generous in his grading. He grades on a point system which is quite easy to make an A or a B on. His lectures can get boring but is always willing to help students.
Professor Burge was the best professor I've had so far. He really seemed to care about all 500 and something of his students and I learned a lot in his class. Do the homework and be prepared for the exams (which are easy to do), then you should be able to get an A in this class.
This was my first econ class, and he made it so interesting and he really seemed to care about everyone, even in a class of 400+. Just do the homework and occasionally attend lecture and you will do fine. If you have to take Macro, take Dr. B!!! He is the best.
Dr. B is the sweetest!! He is such a nice, funny, and caring professor. He truly wants his class to succeed and always commends us when we show up, do the homework, and do well on tests. There is a 10 point curve on every test and it is super easy to get at least a B or an A on his exams. Attendance is not taken but lectures are helpful!
Dr. Burge is so nice and very willing to talk with students. He begins each day with a positive attitude and gives good examples from his real-world experience as a economist.
Dr. B is an amazing man. He cares about his students and wants to see them succeed in his course. :) <3
Dr. B is the best professor at OU. His classes are usually pretty empty because he doesn't take attendance, but he is very funny and his lectures help a lot. Would take Burge's class again in a heartbeat.
One of my favorite professors at OU. He is very caring and passionate about teaching. He gives a 10 point bonus on all exams, including the final and optional final to replace your lowest midterm exam grade. Also there are other extra credit opportunities in class. Would highly recommend taking Professor B
Dr. B was amazing and truly one of the greatest teachers I've ever had. Economics doesn't pertain to my major but he definitely peaked my interest in the subject and kept class interesting.
Burge is AWESOME!! study the practice exams he gives on canvas. don't be afraid to reach out to him or his TAs. They want you to succeed in the class. Do the extra credit he gives out as well. It helps a ton at the end of the semester.
Dr. B is a super nice guy! He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. However, I found the material to be really hard and the lectures to be really boring. You're only graded on LearnSmarts and tests, and I found the tests to be really hard.
Burge is a great guy and a great teacher. I came into this class thinking that the test files were the exact same as the test (they were last semester) but he changed the tests this semester. I didn't go to lectures (cause i thought the test files i had were the same) and got a b. Go to class and study and you'll get an a.
I had an A throughout the semester, and ultimately received an A in the class. The class is easy. However, Dr. B was condescending to me when I turned in my final exam-- I had taken 1.5 hours (average was 1 hr), and when I handed in my exam, he gave me a sad look and said "Aww, I hope that went *really* well." He surely thought I failed.
Dr. Burge is a great professor. He was one of the most caring professors I've ever had. He encourages students to participate in class. Sometimes he gets carried away on a tangent here and there, but he is very passionate about his students. His tests were fairly easy as long as you studied. I would take him again if he offered a class I needed.
He is clearly very passionate about what he does and he is a great professor to have. I only received a bad grade because I am not good at economics and should've listened, but if I did my job, I would've gotten an A. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!
Dr B is one of the best professors/teachers Ive ever had. He explains things really clearly and can make difficult material more understandable. If you can, go to the review sessions he has before the tests!! He answers your specific questions and can clarify any concepts youre confused about! I hope to have him again as a professor, hes great:)
Dr. Burge was awesome! Keeps lectures light and interesting and the only grades are super easy homework and 4 exams, one of which you are able to retake! Super easy to get an A even if you do not attend class. I would definitely recommend. He is super nice and makes lectures fun!
super nice guy and so willing to help you get that grade you want if you attend office hours. In a class of roughly 500, not even half show up by the middle of semester so if you actually go and sit towards the front you will be so much better off. I didn't do so well in the class, but thats simply because I don't care for economics at all.
Dr. B is the best and a great guy, class isn't mandatory so you have to keep yourself accountable on studying for the exams. there are multiple opportunities for extra credit and I would utilize them
The kindest professor at OU. I had him for ECON 1113 in my first semester of college and have him in my final semester of college for ECON 3113 and I am so grateful I started and ended with him. ECON 1113 is increadibly easy but ECON 3113 is challenging and requires much studying outside of class. Please take Dr. B, you will not regret it.
Dr. B is literally the best. I suck at econ but I would take any class from him again. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to do their best. Doesn't take an attendance, gives automatic 10 points for every test, and offers two extra credit opportunities for 10 points each.
Dr. Burge has a passion for economics. He loves what he does, and it shows during lecture. He cares so much for his students and wants to see everybody succeed. He uploads practice tests that are very similar to the actual tests. If you do and understand those, you will have such an easy and enjoyable time in this class.
His classes are so much funny and super interesting! I highly recommend taking his sports Econ course!
This dude the best. Every time we had an exam, he would hold multiple 2 hour review sessions where you could join or leave as you please and ask any question you needed. Easy to follow teaching style.
Amazing Professor! He provides lecture videos going over each chapter in detail which is extremely beneficial and helpful. I highly recommend watching these because it will make the class easier. Keep on track with online homework and you will do well. He also offers two extra credit opportunities for discussion posts. Overall, great class!
LITERALLY THE BEST TEACHER EVER! Even with online class he still made a point to get to know us and he is so kind and funny. All of the homework is so easy (sometimes time consuming) but you are guaranteed to get a 100 on every homework if you just do it. The tests are questions pulled directly from the homework.
Do the homework assignments and study the slides and you will pass with an A. Great professor and very engaged with his students. he understands this generation very well, and his teaching style reflects that. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing to take macro.
Not bad at all, but I would take his class in person if you can. I think online teaching just doesn't do Dr. Burge justice for the amazing things I heard about him before taking this class.
Dr. B is the best professor. He actually made it fun to learn about economics. He had a team of TAs to help answer questions because it was such a large class. I didn't talk to all of them but the ones I did were knowledgeable. Dr. B has great lectures and teaches the material well and in a fun way.
Dr. B Is easily one of the best professors I've ever had
Honestly such a great professor. Professor Burge always makes the class fun and provides outside knowledge that is relevant to today's economy that is not provided within the textbook. Not only that, he has one of the best personalities I have seen in a professor -- truly cares about his students too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Such a fun professor!! Easy and makes learning macro interesting. All the tests are online.
easy class, nice prof, one homework assignment per week (two at most), exams are all on canvas whether the class is in person or not.
Dr. B was the best introduction to the world of Econ that I ever could've imagined! I came in thinking it would be an easy A and that I was just taking the class to fill a Gen-ed, but Dr. B's teaching made a subject and class that can be seen as grueling and annoying into one of my most enjoyable! He's an engaging, kind, and relatable professor!
Dr Burge is one of the greatest professors I have had. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. He explains everything thoroughly, and can break it down deeper if needed. Would 100% take another class with him if I could.
Honestly Dr. B is the best professor at OU! One homework assignment a week and then an exam after 4 sections are covered! All online!! Always makes time to help and make sure everyone understands! Definitely makes economics interesting.
Professor Burge has definitely been my favorite teacher at OU. Class is pretty easy (all the test answers are on quizlet) but its a meaningful class and I actually learned a lot from it. It was interesting and his lectures were actually enjoyable. Attendance wasnt mandatory, but I went to each lecture because I actually liked going.
I heard of Dr. B before I was in his intro to macro class, and after taking it I know why. Class has almost 600 people in it but he still takes the time to know u. Super caring, 10% curve on each test. Homework takes hours but if you do all of it, you will get a 100%. Has extra credit opportunities and even gives monetary prizes if you're in class!
Dr. B is the best professor at OU. He genuinely cares about every single one of his students and wants to get to know you, even though there are tons of students in the class. You can tell that he loves what he does. The homework sometimes takes a bit of time, but it is not difficult at all. The tests are easy, and it is super easy to stay engaged!
Amazing Lectured. All exams are open note and the assignments can be done using the textbook. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend watching lecture videos. Participate in the discussions for extra credit and it'll bump your grade up significantly. Good Luck.
Best professor ive taken at OU. Dr. B gives great feedback and is so helpful outside and inside of class. Wish I could take him for multiple classes. His learning style is engaging and makes the material fun to learn. Definitely take him for Economics.
Highly recommend Dr. B, easily the best professor I've had at OU. He keeps lectures interesting and will even give out prizes in class. Tests and homework were easy. Overall a great class.
Loved Prof Burge! He's so enthusiastic and excited about teaching economics. His class is lecture heavy but he posts slides over the lectures if you miss class. Theres an assignment once a week that if you pay attention in class their easy (quizlet is your friend). tests and final online I stopped going to class after the first test
Had an amazing time with Dr. Burge this fall taking Macro. He was an amazing professor who truly cared about what he was teaching and just wanted to share his passion for it with his students. The class was incredibly easy but absolutely walked away learning a lot thanks to him. ABSOLUTELY take if you need Macro.
Even though Dr. B posted recorded lectures to canvas, I still attended class just due to pure enjoyment of the way he covered the material and brought current events into discussions. There are many opportunities for extra credit. If you need to take ECON1113, this is by far the best professor to have.
Dr. B is a fan favorite and it's clear why! In every part of the material we were in, he always made the lecture times enjoyable, interesting, and would often ask for feedback from the students, which kept us engaged. The class itself was very easy, you could read the textbook and get an A, but I still showed up to the lectures as they were fun!
He is an amazing guy and tries so hard to teach just not very good at it. He gives us like 70 concepts connect assignment and that's it. They take forever and you don't learn from them.
Dr. B was a super awesome prof. For someone who hates Econ, he made the material accessible and easy to understand. It's obvious that he really cares about teaching, and that shines through in his lectures. Would definitely recommend!
You will have at least one but most of the time two smartbook assignments a week and there is an average of like 70 concepts so your looking at a minimum of 140 questions a week. Lectures are very boring and hardly anyone goes. Test are decently hard. Overall I did not enjoy this class at all
Burge is a good teacher and soo nice, but, this class sucks. The tests are the hardest thing I have ever taken. They are online and randomly give you 40 questions out of 1,000 from the practice test. No matter if I went to class and studied the hardest ever, I still would get a D. Just sucks they moved the tests in person. Easy HW though.
Your grade really just depends on making good grades on all of the exams. His lectures are pretty boring, but he is a nice guy. He does only offer one extra credit assignment. He does not round up.
The lectures don't go in-depth enough for you to really understand the content. There's simply too much material to cover. Skip class and just read the book. Understanding all the graphs and equations is critical to getting a good grade. Everyone gets an automatic 10 point curve on all exams. If you do bad on one you can take a make-up exam.
Amazing. Class is what you put into it. Lectures are robust, immersive, and energetic, giving depth to all of the things you would read in a textbook. Grading is simple and clear-cut. Weekly hw assignments done through the online textbook, with exams. You WIL need to study for exams though, especially if u did not take class in hs
Weekly homework. Great professor but hard concepts. Tests are basically only thing that matters and they are HARDDD if you want a A go to every lecture and stufy hardddd
Dr Burge is a great guy and pretty interesting the exams are pretty hard and kinda hard to study for as the practice exams is out of a pool of 1000 questions
Dr. B is amazing in his lectures and makes it easy to pay attention during class, but the material is very difficult and broad. Test questions are pulled from the practice tests which have 1,000 different possible questions, so it is difficult to study. He curves each test, but in the end it's barely enough.
He really makes class fun & is the nicest guy ever. He makes an effort to get to know & help every student. Pay attention during the homework & practice tests because they are same as exam questions. He posts the lectures on his website but I encourage going to class as he appeals to every learning style with examples, pictures, numbers, etc.
Dr. B is a good guy but his class is structured awfully. All his exams are pooled from what seems to be about 1000 different practice exam questions and you'll be lucky to get a few of the same questions. I wouldn't recommend taking him. I studied for days for his exams and always got low 80s. He does curve the exams but it doesn't help.
He was such a great professor. I found myself thinking of switching to Econ. As long as you show up to the lectures and do the homework you will be fine. If you want to learn the material really well I would recommend taking notes over the book before you get into the lecture.
Dr. B is an amazing professor. His lectures are very personable and you can tell he is passionate about economics. If you do the Smartbooks, you will pass this course. He offers plenty of time for office hours including several slots with TAs.
He is super nice. Pop quizzes, but its open book, note and you can literally anyone in the class including him. He tries really hard to make lectures entertaining. Has extra credit too.
Great professor, he makes it clear what he expects and gives practice exams. You can always go to his office hours and ask him questions about anything
He actually cares about his students. The material is difficult but he does his best to try and simplify it. There are pop quizzes randomly so go to class but they are open note and easy. Exams are difficult but if you ask questions it should be okay. Overall, he is a great professor and is just a genuine guy.
All tests are on paper. He drops the lowest test, pop quiz, and HW. He does pop quizzes randomly so you have to go to class because it will crush your grade. All homework is around 5 points. There are not that many grades in this so doing everything. The tests are very hard but he adds 10 points to everyone's.
In this class, if you do the homework and go to the lectures you will do fine. Most of your grade is just the homework completion grades.
Nicest guy in the world, lectures are interesting!
Dr. B is a great professor, but I still thought this class was hard. The material covered in class is very base-level compared to tests. Exams are curved but theyre also the only grades you get, besides the homework. I expected econ to be easy, but even after studying days before the exams, they were still difficult.
The larger lecture can make the material difficult to learn but the TAs are very helpful and I recommend going to their office hours and review sessions. Dr. Burge is very nice and experienced in his field.
Dr. Burge is a fantastic professor and I recommend you take him if you need to take Macroeconomics. His class is very easy to pass even you skip most of the lectures. There are extra credit opportunities for OU TX weekend, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Homework is just smartbooks which are really easy. He is also a very nice person outside of class.
He gives extra credit opportunities during the semester. He is a good teacher, the lectures should be heavy but he makes them fun.
Dr B obviously cares about his students. Class is made up of online hw, tests, and extra credit. His tests could be difficult, but if you read the textbook and do the homework, you'll probably do well. Every test has a 10pt curve and there's a makeup exam at the end. The final is not cumulative but the makeup is. Do the extra credit!!!!!
Lectures were interesting, but the whole grade you get is from VERY difficult PAPER exams and long hw quizzes. He makes 10 point curve for exam but doesn't round the grade, and there is a lot of heavy material. I thought that first econ should be mid-easy because it is needed for gen.ed, but I felt as an economics PhD who needs to know everything.
Dr B is great. Attendance is not mandatory, but I definitely recommend going. There are a lot of lectures and exams make up most of your grade. If you study you will do fine. He is a very funny and personable guy and there are multiple extra credit opportunities.
Great professor! Weekly assignments are long but manageable, lots of extra credit opportunities and he gives a 10-point curve on every exam. Lectures are fun and he usually ends up letting us out before class ends. Attendance isn't required but I suggest going because he will randomly assign pop quizzes in-class that count as a completion grade.
He's a great professor and cares for his students. The only downside to his classes are the exams. I studied the textbook heavy but could never score high enough. Definitely ask for help, both him and his TAs.
Dr. Burge is friendly and very passionate about economics. The whole course is on McGraw Hill: homework, reviews, exams. There are quizzes after every unit (usually every week), but collaboration is allowed. The homework and lectures take forever, but it's not a difficult class.
He is a pretty good professor. Lectures are good, but long. Attendance is not mandatory, but there are quizzes after each chapter in class. As long as you turn the quiz in, it is a 100. They are not actually graded. The McGraw Hill assignments are long (2+ hours) and there is at least 1 per week.
Dr B is very lecture-heavy, attending and listening are incredibly helpful. Homework assignments are tedious but a great study tool. Lots of easy assignments and extra credit assignments. He wants everyone to succeed and curves exam scores.
Dr. B was a great teacher! Economics is not my thing so I flunked almost every exam, but he adds 10pt grading curves to each one, which helped so much. After I took the final he let me turn in a late extra credit assignment and it took my grade from a B to an A! He saved my GPA which I'll always be grateful for.
Dr. B is great! He does a great job of keeping his lectures interesting and genuinely wants his students to succeed. The exams aren't easy but if you show up to class and do your homework, you will most likely get an A. There is no filler coursework, so everything feels very relevant to the unit exams. Overall, a lovely professor & great lecturer.
I LOVED Dr. Burge and found him to be super informative and engaging. He is so passionate about economics and keeps us involved with over 500 people in the class. He gave up to 15 points of extra credit on every exam and it made the tests so much less stressful. It's a lot of work, but doable if you stay on top of it.
Everything is a completion grade besides the exams, but he gives soooo much extra credit for the exams. MAKE SURE TO DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT! He is also a yapatron, just for a heads up.
He gives a lot of extra credit, but the lectures are very long. The homework's are also long but normally easy and tests are kinda hard but he gives you great resources to study.
Great proffessor who knows what he is talkin about. Tests are hard so make sure to do extra credit and practice tests. HW is long too so don't put that off but is still a relatively easy class.
He's awesome! Not too much work and really good lectures. Definitely do the extra credit though and take the practice tests because they can be hard, but still manageable!
Dr. B makes economics engaging with helpful lectures and generous grading policies. The workload is manageable, and unstuck AI proved invaluable for exam prep. Attend class and utilize all resources - you'll walk away with a solid understanding.
Free A+ if you pay attention to class and do practice exams. Dr. B made concepts easy to learn and understand during lectures.
Dr. B was the man! He was amazing. You just had to attend class for those pop quizzes. If you do the practice exams multiple times, it's the test. There are smartbooks as well. He was very nice towards his students, passionate, and not rude. He has been one of my favorite professors to date. I took it in Fall 2024
Dr. B is an amazing professor and would highly highly highly recommend. I missed like half the homework because I always forgot they were due on Friday not Sunday, got a 76 on the first exam and still managed to get an A. Also if you do all the extra credit it's just a free letter grade. 450 points is an A, and there's 45pts of extra credit.
While attendance is not mandatory, you will have random quizzes that you need to be in class for to receive credit. Lots of McGraw hill…. everything McGraw hill + you may have to pay over $100 for an access code. Exams are horrible, you can practice on the practice exam and still not get the questions to the actual exam.
I took this over study abroad with him. His lectures sometimes went long and we had to solve homework without being taught how to do it. He believes teaching yourself and then seeking help will help you learn better. He is passionate, engaging, very kind, and wants his students to do well. I would reccommend Dr B 100 times over.
Dr. Burge is amazing!! He really cares about you, and you doing well. The quizzes are only based on participation, as well as the homework. The kicker that can tank your grade is the exams, which are hard. With that said, he gives an unlimited practice exam, and also offers 10 points of extra credit per exam. He is a great professor!
Very nice professor!! Test are pretty much the only grades in there. Take the practice exam as much as you can because it's exactly like the exams. No one will have the same tests/questions bc it comes from a 900 question test pull! Just study a lot for exams! Good luck!
The exams are pretty difficult, but if you do all the HW on time, all of the extra credit, and the practice exams, you should pass with an A. Also he says attendance isn't mandatory but has random quizzes that cannot be made up.
Very well liked, I'm always happy to say hello to him outside of class.
Gregory Burge is an incredible professor. One thing is exams are the majority of the grade. However, he gives practice exams the week before so do it until you are confident and you will likely ace this class. Also, there is a plethora of extra credit. He gives ample time to do assignments and is also fun to talk to after class. Great professor.
