He does not lecture, he starts late and finishes late over our time.Nobody had a clue what to do in his class and it was dull and useless. If you want comp. 2 credit take World Lit. or Comp. 2- BEWARE OF THE BYRD.
Prof Byrd isn't that bad of a teacher. He's nice and funny, but sometimes a little unclear of things. Most don't like him, but I found it easy to get a B in his class. He gives small quizzes almost every class, so you can't skip, but his 4 tests r easy.
This professor is a published poet and a very competent teacher. He is very helpful and I have learned a lot from him.

Vey nice guy, but is always late to class and keeps us late also. He is not very clear on what he wants or when things are due.
he was very unclear, nice though, and very interesting, if a bit shy perhaps? He would have us get into groups, which always bothers me cause it seems like the teacher doesn't want to teach
Comp 2 isn't meant to be an easy A... one must work for the grade. Prf. Byrd presents challenging assignments that are timely, but he explains that to EVERYONE and it is there choice to remain in his class. If you need help he will take the time, the student must have the initiative to ask however
This instuctor is incredible...I found his class to be challenging yet not overwhelming. I strongly recomend anyone and everyone to take this instructor if you get the chance.
This instuctor is incredible...I found his Honors Comp II class to be challenging yet not overwhelming. Yes, he runs a bit late, but at least you know you are getting something good out of the education you've payed for. I strongly recomend everyone to take this instructor if you get the chance.
He was one of the best teachers I have ever had! I learned more from his classes than any other in college.
Great Instructor!!!!
I find Dr. Byrd's class to be very easy. I mamage to get good grades on the first two tests and I know I can do the same with the other two.
He's the best teacher I have had at SPC!
Dr. Byrd's class was an incredble challenge; moreover, he's funny, interesting and has a sincere desire to help any of his students who want to learn. He will help you to find your best skills. I am a better student because of him. "Thumbs up"
He was an ok teacher..his writing topics werent interesting at all..the class was pretty boring..and a lot of people dropped out of it..
this teacher is as bland as a stale hot dog at the devil rays game. The assignments were pretty good but he has no interest in students i feel because students have no interest in the being there..Got a B and wasnt to hard..
I found his comp. II class hard but easy at the same time. There wasn't a lot of classroom assignments or assignments. Most papers and research you did on your own. He scheduled conferences with you to make sure you were getting the material. Also, he let you turn in all of your papers twice for a higher grade. I really liked his class.
Neverfd know what he really wants - tests are extremely hard. Only thing saving your grade is papers and in-class discussion/exercises or presentations.
An awesome teacher... very demanding, but what learning is all about!
I thought he was well organized and provided an opportunity for class participation pretty much at the level you wanted. He is obviously interested in the writing process and wants to encourage students. I loved the class.
omg this class was so boring. it seemed intresting at first but then it turned out to be boring. i was in class with mostly 35-50 yr old people. i learned nothing. i got a C but i was so excited for this class and got a total let down! nice guy, but not so great with this class.
Not hard nor Easy, lot of work thou and he gets carried away with Fishing!!!
Nice teacher, organized but sometimes went off subject.
I absolutely loved his creative writing class. He made me wish the class was longer-and that has never happened before.
He is crazy! He creates the entire semester on one subject --WAR! It is so boring, and has us write a lot of papers, and reading lots too on war, if you love reading and writing about war then take him; otherwise stay far away!
Composition class are never too fun and neither was this one, but it wasn't really hard. Just like any other english class you have to write papers, the papers are pretty much your only grade and you can redo them twice or more. Really asy to make a good grade in this class if you do your work. Good teacher.
He is wonderful. One of the best teachers I have ever had. His assignments are clear, and he helps you whenever you need help. Like chalenge yourself and also get an A try his class. I loved the class and recommened it to everyone.
This class is very involved. However, he lets students revise their papers twice. Works on a theme in a semester. Need to stay focused, do your work on time and participate to get a good grade. I learned a lot in this class. Very good teacher!
Great teacher. Good class. At times a little unclear but overall takes his time in helping you to achieve and understand the course. Be ready for essays!!!
horrible
dr byrd keeps the class interesting. we had guest speakers, went to a poetry reading contest and had an interesting final project. this was an honors class, so it was challenging, but i enjoyed the class overall.
His class time is discussion on nature. All essays are about nature. All reading assignments are about nature. Everything is about nature! When he returns the essays he writes comments on what's wrong with the essay but no comments on how to fix it. Nice guy but that's not all you need in a teacher.
He helped me alot
I really enjoyed taking Professor Byrd's class. He stays after class if you need help, lets you rewrite papers, need to keep up with the reading though. I would have to say...class discussions were quite interesting;Professor has a quirky way of teaching!
This teacher is awful!!! Very nice and personable, but other than that horrible. He always starts class late and ends class late, never posts your grades so you don’t know how you are doing, and goes off into story land constantly. His syllabus was incorrect for pretty much the whole semester. Worst ever! I recommend Leslie Dennis she’s great!
This teacher is boring and tiring. He gives a lot of work to do and an essay of 2000 words. He made me rewrite this essay from the beginning because he realized that he didn’t like the title but he approved it at first. He requires a portfolio at the end of the semester.I spent a whole week to revise all of my essays and I ended up with a “C”.
Awesome. He is clear on how the assignments should be done. He helps out if you ask and give the opportunity to revise the papers and improve your grade. I have learned a lot in his class and had a wonderful time discussing different subjects.

The class was not easy, however, Dr. Byrd allowed to submit essays up to three times. That made me work on the grade and get an a in the class, although my initial grades were at a C-level. it is a lot of work, but you get what you work for. he is nice and helpful and I would certainly reccomend him if you are aiming for a grade other than C.
Would not take another class from this professor. He speaks down to the women in class and look out if you are one that is not afraid to stand up to him! He routinely keeps the class late "lecturing" about his personal life. Unprofessional.
He's a relatively good teacher, but some of his papers can be difficult to write. I took him for honors Comp I. The classroom is kind of discussion oriented, but can be pretty interesting.
Good teacher great guy A bit too into ecology and nature but makes it work. will learn a lot. Class is interesting and even fun thats hard to say about many other English courses Ive taken. If you want to learn how to write then take his class If you want to be bored not learn anything and be babied then take someone else

This class sucks. Every essay you write has to do with nature and each one is 10 percent of grade. Its an easy C but really hard if ur trying to get any higher.
This guy gives a insane course load. Just this week he made us revise a 2000 word paper, read 150 pages out of a novel, another 50 pages out of a handbook, due a self evaluation, formal outline and he stil expects us to have time for other classes. i wish i could swear on here because i have nothing by explitives to say about the guy.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had.

This is the worst teacher i have ever taken. He is terrible you cant read his handwritting, he is so not nice, he doesnt care about his students, he only cares that you show up to class and do every little thing he says. Be careful not to be sick cause he doesnt even wanna see ur doctors note. He is also not in his office when he says he will be...
Boring class. All he does it talk about nature. Make you write papers on really out there subjects like "define the word place". He's a nice guy but I don't think he really understand what it means to be a teacher.
asking to much
WORST FREAKING PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!!!! He is not nice, doesn't care about his students, and makes you do worthless things that he doesnt even check. Not the mention the LAME in class poetry essay. DO NOT TAKE BYRD AT ALL!!!
This prof will MAKE you WORK for your grade. Don't get me wrong, you get what you deserve, but you work your rear end off doin it. If you are trying to take a heavy course load and still get an A, he may not be the one for you. You are able to turn each essay in three times, which is the ONLY reason I pulled off an A.
He was a good teacher, but he is very hard. When you turn your papers in be prepared for some serious grading. But, if you try and do your best you will most likely pass. He is very interesting and funny in his lectures. If you want a challenge... pick him.
Great teacher. pushes you to open your mind to write and think differently. not exactly an easy A and a slightly heavy course load but an easy B and very easy C. really helped develop my writing a lot.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Not a helpful teacher. He gives you tons of work. do not take unless, you are a literature genious
Excellent, very reasonable professor; always enjoyed his class and pedagogy. His method of choosing a single broad subject for students to analyze throughout the course seems successful in promoting a deeper, more comprehensive understanding of that subject (common subjects seem to be war, nature, the environment, etc...). Highly recommended.
DONT DO IT!!!!!!
He is a nice guy, pretty funny at times. I liked him because he is extremely intelligent, but he is a little unorganized. He posts some grades, then not others. he is passionate about the subject, but he grades essays pretty hard. The tests aren't too tough, but they are intense. 600 word essays at the end of some. You definitely have to pay attn.
Very nice teacher! Very helpful and understanding. I have him for IDS, not a specific literary class, his work is not unreasonable! Just do the reading, and if you have questions, EMAIL HIM. You can tell how passionate he is about the subject.
Excellent, helpful, knowledgeable, experienced, kind professor, with an extensive understanding of literature, writing, and poetry particularly. His classes probably seem hard to people who do not want to actually do work, but neither of the classes I took were difficult.
Eager to help you if you are a woman, but if not, good luck. He is never prepared and a day of lectures even consisted of nothing but youtube videos. Uninteresting and should be avoided.
Nightmare... He is extremely arrogant. There's some amazing professors at SPC, please do yourself a favor and avoid this one. I had always enjoyed English and Literature, until I decided to take his class as an elective.
I think he shouldn't be a teacher at all maybe a politician would be a better place for him to be. He is a pretty smart guy but he has no idea how to be a teacher he is never prepare all he does is youtube videos. He stars a topic and never finish it. His study guides are the worst study guides i have ever had they dont help at all. boring class =0
Dr. Byrd is a really nice guy. He doesn't press you to share anything that you write that you don't want to. Midterm exam is HARD!!! Portfolios are fun and so is the workshopping. Has had some inappropriate moments in class. If you don't mind it, then he is great!
He never told us due dates, and was always unorganized. Never graded things on time besides tests. I would not take him again.
Very clear with great critiques. knowledgable and caring
WORST teacher I have ever had in my life. I studied weeks prior to the exams and still managed to get D's on them. Offered no help and very unorganized. If your planning on taking this class with him, good luck. Its a very hard class unless your able to teach yourself all the material.
Terrible example of an English teacher. Does not grade fairly or using the syllabus at all. Waited until the day before the class ended to grade many assignments. Offers little or no help/feedback. Tests are unnecessarily but purposely hard. Do not take this class with him.
BORING! BORING! BORING! He'll teach you the fundamentals and a few more facts, but that is about all. If you're looking for a dynamic, innovative teacher he is not it.
I enjoyed his method of teaching very much. This was an honors course yet I found it well taught and passed the class with a fairly easy A. If you have a basic interest in his subject, you will learn and be entertained enough to keep you interested. He genuinely cares.
this class is not a cakewalk. Right off the bat you have to do a huge research paper. he shows up late 85% of the time. if you show an interest in the class he will help you. Very passionate, yet disorganized teacher. He is a very difficult grader and does not go by a syllabus for grading, but very interesting teacher.....
I loved his class. You write numerous papers but he grades fair and allows you an opportunity to revise all of your papers for a higher grade. He collects homework so make sure you do it. He encourages you to open your mind and think outside the box and he is clear when giving assignments. If you don't do well in his class, you are probably lazy.
Tons of writing; Heavenly/mundane entry everyday plus daily poems, weekly homework assignments, and one essay on a poet of your choice. If you ask for help he will help. Understood when I had issues with my portfolio. Obviously loves his job. Plenty of extra credit if you can make it to the readings, which was a major issue for me.
Byrd is a nice guy but he is incredibly disorganized. He often would hand papers back with a comment about having more 'floating around' and his grading system is entirely disorganized on ANGEL. Often took a long time to grade or put the wrong grade on assignments, making it hard to get an accurate read on your standing in the class.
He tries to use up all of your class time and is extremely unorganized. Even when he clearly doesn't have a lesson plan he talks about really pointless things and tries to make one up wing it. Least favorite teacher. Next semester he's going to make having a wordpress blog mandatory and for all of your essays to be posted on it.
Everything that he talks about in class has a purpose. I enjoyed his lectures and feedback. He also provides optional extra credit. He made us create a word press blog to try and teach us that having a specific audience and thesis are extremely important in your papers. I would definitely recommend him. It's an easy A if you actually do the work.
I really enjoyed Dr. Byrd's passion. His lecture style was not for me. I almost fell asleep during one of his lectures. He tends to get side tracked a lot and kind of scattered, which isn't a deal breaker, but just not for my particular learning style. He's very fair and encouraging. I have a whole new passion for classical music thanks to him.
This professor is deffinitly passionate about what he does but class always feels so pointless. He seems to talk about nothing all class time and he keeps talking even after class is over. Hard to pay attention because its so boring and he's a dull teacher. Some students have only showed up a few times throughout the whole semester.
I really enjoyed Dr. Byrd. I am actually sad that this semester is at an end because I really did enjoy this class. Thanks to his writing techniques, I have learned to become a very more focused writer and am less confused when I am forced to write a paper about something. Class is always straight to the point! Very helpful.
if you want to be bored out of your mind take this class. If you love music and music history by all means this is the class for you. if you like discussions and interesting reads, Not the class for you. Class is nothing like IDS1106 with Linda Yakle. Dr White and Byrd are very similar in teaching styles. brilliant people just not what was exs
Though a bit flighty in his thought process that makes lectures scattered and sometimes irrelevant, Dr. Byrd is amazing. He's a tad disorganized, but he gives great, knowledgeable feedback. I'm majoring in writing, so he really helped me fine tune my abilities and was very encouraging. Always available outside class for one on one help.
Honestly, this was a tough class. You need to know how to write essays. He's tough. He is super smart, and you can tell he knows what he's talking about. I passed with skimming through the assigned stories.
Me. Byrd is a very nice man. He knows what he is talking about and will make sure you know. I have gone to writing center on every paper and still get C's. Not a fan of the blog assignment and not to the point teaching. Not the worst but not the best.
Professor Byrd is extremely disorganized and wastes his "precious" class time. He is not clear on when assignments or poems for workshop are due. You have to write in a notebook every day and turn it in at the end of the semester. No papers, a book presentation, and workshop every week. He seems very nice. Writing portfolio due at the end.
This professor makes writing not interesting to learn. All our assignments were based on blogs that made it so difficult to write for this class. I went to a writing tutor to checked my essays ,but I still got Cs in all of my essays. If you want to improve your writing, I recommend to take it with a different professor. His lectures are boring!
He is a great professor! He pushed me and had me writing like I never imagined I could. If you read the assigned text and do you best you will succeed. He allows multiple revisions with excellent feedback because he really wants you to write the best paper you can. Through this process I was able to refine my papers and sharpen my writing abilities
Ive never had a worse professor. Reading what others said , I thought it would be fine. Byrd makes literature seem like the most boring thing in the world. I would much rather watch paint dry than sit in his class again. Due dates were wrong, 5 different places to turn in assignments, and he graded everything last minute.
Dont buy the textbook. It was used once. This is the most boring class Ive ever taken, and god forbid you answer anything not exactly as he wants you to. The man could ask what adds up to 4 and if you say 2+2 instead of 3+1 hell tell you youre wrong. Im not bitter, I passed the class, but I have never been more bored
The most boring class ever. He keeps on mumbling with himself and the students up front and never actually teaches. Grades hard, especially the papers and it is really impossible not to sleep in the class. I am accustomed to 2 hour classes and yet could never make it past the 1 hour. There are plenty of other teachers. Do not take.
Prof. Byrd is not the best professor. Assigns things moments before they are due. He gets back to your emails quickly. Many procedures when writing a paper. Gets off topic often. Many things you need to check off for each module. Im sure you can find a better comp 2 professor. (Live online ) You barely use the textbook but you need it for tests.
UGH. I had to take a "worldview" class requirement. I chose this class - Ancient Lit - because I thought it would be fun. Horrible mistake! Random, arbitrary due dates (for an ONLINE class with no lecture). Doesn't know how to used MyCourses (locked assignments all the time) totally inconsistent grader. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.
Material isn't hard (not the most interesting though), issues I had was the the Prof himself. Doesn't respond to emails, wrong due dates online, and zero organization. I felt like I had to plan my whole semester around this prof's unpredictability. I've always been a pretty good writer (usually A's) yet it feels like what I turn in is never enough.
This class is why I changed my major. I will never enjoy writing again.
Tends to go off on random tangents and assigns plenty of homework. Only 3 essays in the whole year tho and another as your final grade. Not too bad of a professor but not the best by any means
A very caring guy, almost dad like, I just don't feel that he's the best at teaching, but he tries. He's often walking around the classroom helping each student individually. He has a lot of home quizzes to (He says they're 'cookies' for reading what he said, each is less than 1% of a grade)
He is very caring and if you talk to him he is very understanding. He's a father so if you're younger, especially, he's very compassionate. He does assign a lot of work and writing so be sure to stay on top of your work. He gives clear feedback on work, his class is lecture heavy, but as long as you do the work you'll be fine.
Gregory was amazing! This course has SO much writing though. Way more than my comp classes combined. However, it pushed me out of my box with writing and my writing has improved in ways I never thought it could. He grades from what he expects from you which is kinda hard. Don't get behind and enjoy writing while willing to learn.
Eh. he's not hard or easy, just is kind of annoying when it comes to how he grades. Most times I would not understand why he would take off points in the essays. His quizzes are easy if you read the book, you can pass the class but he's annoying.
Honestly, Dr. Byrd was very great. He has a ton of resources to help you through the class. He also is very accessible outside of class and gives very good feedback. Dr. Byrd made the content super interesting.
Due dates WILL switch without warning, you will have to get mandatory tutoring as part of a grade, and some assignments will be due before class with no warning. Please if you have to take a writing class go with Dr. Flores instead.
Mr. Byrd was a nice professor but oh boy his class was a killer. Lot's of papers with super hard subjects about really boring stuff and tons of side reading assignments and quizzes. He doesn't explain anything properly and when you ask questions, he just makes you feel more confused. He also rambles for the whole class and doesn't explain due dates
Unorganized and incredibly unstructured.
very nice and wants to help you get an A
DO NOT TAKE ENGLISH WITH HIM.
I hated my life...
Dr. Byrd is very kind and lovely to talk with, but his class is extremely disorganized. Due dates aren't consistent and will change randomly. He frequently forgets to open dropboxes/discussions so you can't submit assignments when you're supposed to. Assignment instructions are unclear/confusing. This class was overall just very stressful.
He gave a reasonable amount of homework, but it opened on Sunday and due on Wednesday, and nothing you can do for the rest of the week. He seems to be knowledgeable, but is frankly ridiculous when it comes to grading. He never gave a 100 on a paper and his feedback was incredibly vague. Overall, not the worst, but you can definitely find better.
Very nice professor, but he does not know how to explain; he is very confusing and is late to class quite frequently. Overall, his grading is alright, and he would open assignments if needed, but I do not recommend his class.
Dr. Byrd's essay prompts were exciting. They were about our life and career goals. His grading feedback is helpful, and you can resubmit your essays to improve your grade. He's willing to help you with your writing—ask. Moreover, his course layout was very unorganized. There were rarely any due dates posted, and he would post due dates the day of.
