He sux!!!!!!!!!!!!
he sux so much ass, exam questions are hard. try taking the class with a diff proff
He's a good and clear speaker, just a little difficult because of size of class
Not terribly hard, but such a jerk. It's not worth having to be around his bad karma for two periods a week. Pick another teacher! Anyone is better than Clare he's nasty, rude, and just awful. Take: Sheflin, Scarry, Stuart, Prusa, Mizrach, or anyone!!
No curve. You only get 100 questions for the course, so each problem is 1% of your grade. No final though. Wasn't very helpful during his office hours.
He's Terrible and angry aswell. You cannot email him because he doesnt give you an email address. Exams are hard and lecture is boring. Do yourself a favor and do not take his class!
3 exams 30% each so u better keep up , but than u get a break when u take yout other finals:)
horrible. do not take him. he will make u angry. exams are terrible. terrible prof. do not take him!
Compared to my micro class, his tests ae easy. However, since there are only 3 exams al worth 30% each, you have to keep up and do well on all the tests. Just do the study guide questions and read the book carefully, and you'll be fine.
He's very helpful and makes it easy to understand the material. The TA's are pretty good too. He's so far the best ECON professor I've had, just make sure you study and understand it and ask TA not him for help.
One of best professors I had so far. He explains the material VERY VERY well, and if you really listen and pay attention, you will understand everything and not have a problem. If you don't, this class will be hell because his tests are not a breeze.
Horrible professor with no teaching ability whatsoever--do not take him!!!
Clare comes off as a hardass, but I think thats just to get people to drop. He presents each topic clearly and effectively, as well as being fairly humorous at times. The people who rate him poorly prob didnt do the reading or go to class. No final :)
He's pretty mean but he teaches well.
He is the best prof for econ I even had. I loved his lectures , he know what he is talking about, gets funny at times, and at times puts on a hard look but reasonable in person. Go to his lectures and do the study guide if u wanna do well in his class.
Had him for international econ in the past and still cant stand the man. Gets mad at the class if you ask him to repeat something or explain something b/c he expects everyone to know it. You will hear about his RU degrees many times.
He teaches well and is clear, but his exams are difficult, I wouldnt take him again and he curves one point which doesnt do anything.
blows through notes so fast, cant even write down in time. goes off on tangents. exams have nothing to do with what he teaches
good prof..knows what he talks bout, and makes sure u understand the materail, but his exam are just a different story, he know how to f u over! thats if u dont read,,but u can definately pass,
clare sucks! he talks so fast in the class that you cannot even take notes. you have to rely on the book all the time. he makes u sits alphabetically during the exams, which doesnt makes any sense. his exams are really really hard.
Clare the Bear. Avoid this man in the class room and in dark alleys.
Very smart knows what he is talking about and is a good teacher. HARD EXAMS and just lectures(talks), taking good notes is very hard. Also puts limits on curves or doesn't curve at all. I recommend choosing someone else.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is a horrible, horrible, horrible teacher. If you need to take economics take Sheflin, he's soooo much better. This one knows what he is talking about, but you can read the book, do all the work, but his tests are radiculous, so you end up doing bad. The guy is also very boring.
Do not take this class with him! He is a good professor and knows what he is talking about but the exams are horrible! Also if you need extra help go to the TA and not him because he just ends up making you look stupid.
hes an ****
go to class, go to recitation, take notes, do the study guide, get an A. (or at least a B) He is arrogent but the tests are ok if you've done the reading and gone to class.
Extremely difficult in more ways than one.
Comes off as a hard ass in the beginning but has his funny moments. Exams are difficult. Need to understand graphs in depth. Never curves...got a C.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM! He is a great lecturer but his exams are incredibly difficult. I went to every class and recitation only to end up with a D, he also does not curve, no matter how bad the class did! Unless you can afford a bad grade, don't take him.
HARDEST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN AT RUTGERS. exams all over the place you have to know all the notes and all the book.
stay away from this man stay far away.
redundant. if you don't understand something the first time, chances are you won't understand it the 4th & 5th time you've seen/heard it. he's a smart guy, but he's such a mean person if you're not a economic genius.
so boring and so hard. terrible grading system and does not care if the students are all doing badly. take an easier econ prof for this class.
this professor is awful.. i had to drop this class because i was doing bad... do not take him..
Great teacher. Comes off as a hard ass in the beginning, but hes actually funny as hell. Go to class, read the book, you'll get a good grade. Pay attention and you'll be fine, got a B+
He is a ok, jokes arn't funny at all.Exams are incredibly difficult. I went to every class and recitation but ended up with a C+, no extra credit or makeup exam either
i didnt like this guy one bit...bad jokes and pretty annoying....every question you get wrong on exams directly effect your final grade in the class...take this class with someone else...
Everyones a hater. He is a really good lecturer. Straightforward. 3-30 mc exams and 1-10 mc quic on the last day of class. Curves about 4 pts at the end. Go to all the classes and recitaitons and you will be find. I got 99% and i didnt try. Takes good notes and you are set.
He goes over the material SEVERAL times and lectures very well.is enthusiastic and concise. At the beginning of every lecture, goes over what we did last class first and then adds on to it. If you read the book and listen to his lectures, you'll be fine. Tests are pretty straightforward. Recommended.
yeah hes pretty darn good...AT NOT BEING HELPFUL AND BEING TOTALLY UNREASONABLE, however he has a passion for the subject But I HATED him and hence dropped the course
go to class, take good notes, and read the book and you'll do fine. he's thorough and clear; however, grading system makes it difficult to obtain an A. he does not change grades.
The truth is that for an intro class this isn't THE easiest. You must really KNOW WHAT YOU R READING TO DO WELL.to get an A is hard b/c the grading system is based off of 100 pts (three 30q test and one 10q quiz).THATS ALL THERE IS! so if you get 10 Qs wrong out of the 100 you ll take, impossible A.However he is fair although more thoro than normal
Heed this advice before you take the course. This guy is impossible.check out the grading system.your final grade = 100 pts.3 quizes (30 pts each) and a final quiz (10 pts).each question = 1 pt. so if you get more than 10 questions wrong on each quiz, then no A for you. No extra credit, he repeats himself to keep kids in class, and grades r final
dr.clair is not as intimidating as he first comes off to be.He has 3 exams and a quiz which total 100 questions which is ur whole grade (basically each question is a point on ur final avg).He teaches the material clearly and uses alot of graphs.you need to read the book tho. the only bad thing is that the TAs teach 1/3 of the course material.
This professor is a hard as hell.no matter how well you study u need a ton of luck to get a decent grade in his class. AVOID TAKING HIs CLASS AT ALL COST I MEAN IT !!
Unreasonably tough exams for an INTRO course, absolutely NO CURVE. Only take this instructor if you are majoring in economics. No test reviews, you are on your own. You must read the entire text verbtatim and understand even the most menial concepts. You must study above and beyond. Good lecturer though.
Very straight forward teacher with a good sense of humor. Calls us scholars! No final and he curves. Explains well.
The worst teacher i have ever had at rutgers. I'm a mechanical engineer and I received the first D grade ever in his managerial econ class. My roommate who is an econ major also got a D. You cannot email him, there are no practice exams nor reviews for his tests. Save your GPA and avoid his class.
You definitely should not take Clare unless you are an econ major. However, if you are, he is extremely bright, funny, and not as bad as everyone says he is. Go to class, take notes, read, study, get an A. You will certainly learn alot!
Not a good class
Very helpful and easy to understand. Talks quickly during lectures, so you have to pay attention. Other than that, tests are very straightforward .
he is the definition of an a--hole. this man is unclear and unhelpful. there is no curve either. he is rude and his lectures are extremely boring. never ever take any class taught by this man. never!
extreme ****. good lord people save yourself from a horrible semester with this man. while kids in other sections of managerial are getting 100's on exams it takes an 11 point curve to get a D in his. DO NOT TAKE HIM. someone needs to go to the dept. about him
Not a nice guy. He was bitter and defensive when asking for help during class. It was too bad...I really wanted to learn alot in the class but his shoddy tests and noncommittal attitude totally put me off. Try to find a different prof! There are so many good ones in the econ dept.
As someone else stated, if you are an economics major, take him. You will learn a lot, IF you go to every class and study. I actually enjoyed this professor.
This gentleman does not know how to write notes or lecture effectively. If you like taking classes where the professor writes everything in shorthand then this is the class for you. Don't expect to learn anything. He's an idiot, and believes all his "scholars" are idiots too...
He is not as bad as he seems when you first meet him. He is a harda** though. It's his way or the highway.. I thought his lectures were helpful.. just go to class and read the book.. and yes NO CURVE!!
Great Lecture ! But Exams are extremely difficult and dont expect any curves, Some questions on the test requires thinking outside of the box, So you must know ur stuff
He is the worst profesor ever. He is a very rude person. He is so boring. I WARN YOU DO NOT GET THIS SOB!!!!!! YOU WILL SUFFER! Morever, he's full of s***t.

His tests are quite difficult and he doesn't believe in curves. He is a top quality professor though. Very clear, concise, and thorough in everything he does. Attend lectures and you should do well.
This man is not very nice. However, its an easy A. All you have to do is attend every class, pay attention, and take good notes. Exams are straight from his notes. Don't even buy the book. If you had a good understanding of micro and do as I said, you will get an A.
No curve. Test are hard. No homework though.
Has horrible hand writing and writes on the blackboard. 3 exams and 1 quiz, no final. Tests are extemely hard. Get notes from proffesional note takers, they help out a lot for the exams. Repeats "Is that clear" all the time.
His class is pretty straight forward. If you don't go to it, you'll be clueless on the exam. The exams come right from his lecture. He is not that bad as people here make him out to be. He is a bit repetitive, and makes funny noises when he talks. No curve, but if you pay attention you won't need one. Just go to class.
he teaches very well. To succeed in his class, o for lectures and answer all the problems in the soltions guide- doing these might earn u an A like i got.
Read the text and Must go to class!
Either go to class OR read the assigned textbook chapters. If you do either of the two, you will get an A. If you do both, you won't have to worry about not getting an A. I read the book and went to about 50% of lectures and thought this class was an easy A. It's 3 exams, multiple choice, and no final. Can't get easier than that.
Different. Has an "I hate the world"/ Louis Black-type attitude. There is no inbetween with him, no sympathy, no curves, all multiple choice, no hw. 3 exams, each 33 and a third percent. Average the three and that is ur grade, no if, ands, or buts. Lectures aren't too bad though since he is animated.
take his class only if you are an economics major - otherwise, dont even bother. he is a difficult teacher compared to ridiculous professors with open notes or open book exams - you actually LEARN something at RUTGERS - the memorize unviersity.
This class is pretty intensive. His style of lecturing is clear, and he is very knowledgeable. It's not hard to get a B and quite possible to get an A, but you have to attend class and study. It's not an easy grade. If you work, you'll like this class. If not...
everything else written on here is pretty true, hes confusing and cannot write on the board clear, he things hes very smart but doesnt teach well... study alot or find a better professor i worked my ass off and barely got a C
his lectures are really clear and straightforward. draws alot of graphs. you don't have to take down every word if you just read the book. good prof. and yeah, he does like saying, "IS THAT CLEAR?" all the time.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR! YOU WILL SUFFER! WARNING!!! I REPEAT, YOU WILL SUFFER!!!!
sucks
He seems mean at first but you will soon realize hes fun & light. He is a great teacher & everything he says is in the book and is clear. He is smart & the only possible reason people dont like him is because they are scared of his honesty and strong-mindedness. At first i wanted to drop because he seemed mean but hes really nice & a great teacher.
This professor is GREAT. Don't be put off by his opening class in which he appears very sarky and quite..evil. But his classes are entertaining and interesting.
hands down he is the most amazing professor ever! he is extremely eloquent, knowledgable, and fair. It is because of him that I became so interested in economics and am majoring in it. If I could I would take every single class that he teaches. Going to class helps a lot and be prepared to take a lot of notes for the whole 80 minutes.
People who rate Clare poorly are just the Rutgers idiots who don't go to class, ignore them. Clare keeps class very interesting and holds your attention well. He teaches you A LOT but doesn't make the exams too hard. Just take notes in class and then study them for the exam, SIMPLE IDEA. He's the best econ teacher I've encountered.
This class is really easy. All exam questions from the lectures, three exams (36 q) and one quiz (11q) no final. Study your notes and read the book. Anyone who says this guy is hard does not go to class.
THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!! THAT BS WHAT THE OTHER PEOPLE SAID BEFORE!!!!!
He's really not that bad. He doesn't curve, but his tests are easy and come right off the notes. He may come off as irritating, but if you listen, pay attention, take notes, and go to class you be ok. I didn't open the book, and I got away with a B+ studying on the bus on the way there.
Awesome guy. Comes off as an ass at first but if you go to class and pay attention, you will be fine.
Dont know what to say im getting a B+ in this class and i learned alot.
Tests are not easy, must go to class. He comes off as a !@#$% but he is actually a pretty nice guy. Study hard for the tests and take good notes if you want to do well.
Went to class, took notes, read the book... got an A. It was that simple... 3 exams, 1 quiz spreads out the material very well... you only have to deal with a couple chapters per exam.
Omg, just don't bother. For you engineers out there who want to just take this one class instead of having to take two(macro+micro)..take the two!! I'm telling you the class is hard. Clare is a jerk. No curve. No study guides. Writes on the board so much and with horrible handwriting. Save yourselves.
Take him if you are good at multiple choice tests, otherwise do not bother. However, he is an amazing professor and if you really want to learn something, take him. I learned so much about the Econ/Business world from his class, but wound up getting a D because of hard tests. 3 exams- 30% 1 quiz 10% nothing else, no extra credit.
Not a very nice teacher, was only .4 points away from a B+ told him my case (got mid 90's on two exams, mid 60's on one) to see if he would raise it. Tests are pretty straightforward. Not a difficult class if you know what you're doing. NO curve, no extra credit. I'm sure there is a better macro teacher out there.
I had him for Managerial Econ...DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! You cant understand his writing, and the tests are difficult bc he doesnt explain anything! moves very quickly, lucky if you get a D to pass
Very smart good class
tough teacher... exams are also difficult
horrible teacher!! i had to w/d the class. 30% each 3 exams 10% 1 quiz. i do NOT recommend him
hard teacher, do not recommend if you have no econ experience. hard to get a b in his class
Don't listen to everyone who is whining about their grades. If you go to class and take notes, you'll get an A or B. These people think "Oh I could just miss class and it'll be fine." The tests/quizes are easy. I took Clare again for Intnl Trade, and he was even better the 2nd time around. Clare is the best Econ teacher at Rutgers. Take him.
I WENT TO EVERY CLASS I DIDN'T MISS EVEN ONE CLASS...YET I DID BAD IN THIS CLASS. HE IS JUST A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR.
Lectures can be dull, and tests are very much based upon reading. Very fair.
this class was definitely not easy, but Clare is extremely knowledgeable. He uses real life examples and really tries to make information clear. study hard, multiple choice tends to be a little bit tricky. class was still very interesting.
He is totally cocky, yet it's what makes him so amazing! He is very clear and organized in his lectures and gives great detail and real-life examples that actually make sense! Not too many people did well because they didn't go to class, but if u go and pay attention, you can do very well simply studying off your notes. Love him<3
Dont expect to get an A, but he is a great professor. You will definitely learn a lot but you MUST come to every class. tests based on study guides and no curve/ EC (no exceptions)
He has a complex. He resents lazy idiots. Sometimes its is a bad thing (like high expectations) other times it is a good thing (it can be a breath of freash air). I suggest to record his lectures and carefully read the textbook. Buy the study guide book and do every problem and you should get at least a B.
a very difficult and hard class and professor. don't even bother go to lectures. all test questions are based from the textbook and study guide. very little from his notes. all the TAs can't speak English. no help @ all. get another micro professor!
Clare is ok. come to class. take notes. read the book. get the A. simple.weird ass exams though.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! IT IS LIKE PRISON!!!
not as hard as everyone says read the book and the material he puts online a few hours before the test and get an A study guide might help i havent used it since the first test he is good lecturer take good notes and u should be good
I thought I could take this class and be able to do well -- this is WRONG..I should of believe in what others have said below (He does lower your GPA)!! HORRIBLE... DO NOT TAKE INTERNATIONAL TRADE.. He is VERY unclear and I wrote down EVERY WORD he said in class and studied! Save your time and avoid him at all costs.
DR. GREGORY CLARE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR OF ALL TIME!!! IN ADDITION, HE IS VERY CONDESCEDING!!! DR. CLARE'S LECTURES ARE POINTLESS. HE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE A PROFESSOR!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!
Gregory Clare is the devil!!! He is the worst professor ever!! Greg Clare is a disgrace!!! Clare please do yourself and the students a favor and Retire!!! He's too old to teach anyway.
cant understand him at all in lectures, tried but didnt help so dont go, just read the book its helpful/clear, just be careful on tests he tricks you sometimes that you leave thinking you got an A but got a C cuz you werent reading teh question right, NO CURVE so you can calculate your grade, but there should be better ones out there like swanzer
I don't get why his ratings are so low. He is really straight forward--his lectures are straight foward and his exams are straght forward. If you've read and actully STUDIED the text, you get As in the exams. The text was much easier to understand when i went to lectures. so go to classes and actually listen and take notes! it will help you.
to put it simply, clare is a professor who DOES NOT care about his students. he will give lectures and about 200 pages of material to read for 1 exam and expect you to know everything. with such a mess of information it is very difficult to score high since only about 5% of that is on the exam. no curves, leeway, make ups, extra credit. NOTHING.
this was the easiest class i had all semester, i can't believe people gave him terrible reviews. His tests are very straight foward, and he does not try to trick you at all. My main advice is READ the book and you will get an A, but play close attention while reading and understand it. Overall, he is very fair and i don't understand the reviews
I don't understand why people don't like Clare. I barely went to class and got an A by just reading the book. But you MUST READ AND UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPTS in the book. He doesn't trick you on the exams, and they are all multiple choice. I would definitely recommend him for people who don't go to class and can learn from the book!
He talks a big game, but his class was easy as hell. I never got less than a 94 on any exam. But he's boring as sh*t. Those lectures were intolerable. You could probably get away with just reading the book, but i doubt you'd get an A if you do that.
He'll try and be really intimidating, especially in the beginning. He's not easy but is a really good professor. Oh, and no homework EVER. But if you go to class and read the textbook and study guide you'll pass at least. I worked damn hard for my B+.
Good teacher, sometimes unclear with random graphs drawn on the board but he gives good examples and knows his stuff. This class is worth taking only if you plan on studying for a day or two before the exam and that's it. So far my grade's a B+ from just studying for less than a week in this class.
hes like an economics teddy bear
not the easiest teacher, but the class is bearable. Just read the chapters and pay no attention to his graphs. test have no curves so study
Very knowledgable of economics. I learned a lot with Dr. Clare. The tests aren't that bad as long as you attend lectures and read the book. There is no curve or rounding whatsoever. All in all, a pretty good class, and there is no homework.
3 exams n 1 short quiz, no final exam. all MC questions, not that hard but not easy. no curve no nothing! so study hard. u dont really have to go to lecture. i didnt like his teaching style....over all its easy B class
Knows his stuff. I learned a alot, but it sucks when your average is an 89.85 yet you still get a B+...no curve nor rounding.
i didn't like how he taught. so i didn't go to classes AT ALL and i relied only on textbook. managed with a B. 3 exams and a short quiz. exams itself are pretty short (only around 36 problems) so you can't get too many wrong. no curve or anything. would NOT recommend him.
going to class was useless. 3 exams and 1 short quiz for whole semester. No HW or whatsoever. If you study well off the textbook, take him. Otherwise, if you are like me, who need hws and other things to boost your grade, don't take him.
I listened to what he said in lecture and read the book and still couldnt manage to get the grade i needed.. Missed a C by 3 points! he doesnt curve which sucks because his tests are not easy at all. Went to see him once in office hours and he was NOT nice at all. He snapped at everything i said.. he doesnt curve.. AVOID HIM SERIOUSLY
HARD teacher...has 3 tests and a short quiz at the end. His class ends before final exam week but his class is pointless. I pulled out a C at the end but all he does is stand in the fornt of the class and talk for an hour and 20 minutes. Rambles on the whole time and makes you scramble to take notes if you even go to class. DO NOT RECOMMEND
This was my second time taking him. For other classes attendance is mandatory but for this class he teaches straight from the BOOK. Get the book and you are guarranteed an A or B depedning upon how much time you have to study the text.
Only three exams and an easy quiz. They're not that hard as long as you study for them. He doesn't make class hard and teaches right from the book. NO HOMEWORK. A bit of an ass but overall good class, id take him again
Clare's a riot. His tests are tricky and hard as hell You have to know the material left and right. However, he's a very good teacher, a friendly guy, and is helpful outside of class. He knows his stuff really well, too.
I wish I could've taken this Professor for all me econ classes! He was extremely clear and helpful and is quite knowledgeable in the subject. He somehow generated interest in an otherwise boring theoretical class.I highly recommend Clare.
Clare was one of my best Econ professors. He's tough and his exam's force you to really learn and understand the material. If you actually have an interest or desire to learn Econ, he is the professor for you. He's also pretty funny/interesting guy if you aren't intimidated by him. One of my Econ mentors at RU.
Clare was awesome as a professor-clearly knows what hes talking about. Class could be really boring at times cuz he tends to repeat himself but sometimes spiced it up with personal stories or funny comments. TONS of graphs.Does review sessions in class...I VERY rarely read book and did avg. amount of studying before exams and pulled off a B+.
I try to avoid the "real" econ professors and this has led to a 3.9 econ gpa with one elective to go. Clare is a "real" one. He knows his stuff and has written some good papers. That said, his class is tough but he is fair. I didn't do well on the first 2 exams but got a 100 on the final and he gave me an A for the class without me asking.
never went to class...just read 5 days before exam= A!!
overall...he is a good professor...i really enjoyed taking his class...i would HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT...especially if you want to truly LEARN econ...if you're just in it for the grade...then please just drop out...not only his class but school...you ain't gettin anywhere...so yea...CLARE i give you an A+ even though i only got a B or a B+...i forget:)
Clare is a ridiculous human being. Honestly, if he would just slow down and prepare his students for exams the class may be alright. Speaks too fast to understand an already dry and boring subject, it's really annoying. You'll spend more time muttering under your breath than actually learning. Avoid him at all costs, seriously.
All hail Dr. Clare!! I've had clare for lower and upper level courses. He is hands down the best economics lecturer. He draws alot of graphs but you'll NEVER EVER see one on a test. They're for illustrative purposes only. Study your study guide and end of chapter questions and concepts and you're all set for the exam.
Knew his stuff, but thats where it ends. Tests on 10% of the material in detail. Spent 2 weeks on Depression yet not 1 question was on exam. Carelessness was obvious when he asked the SAME question twice. Trickster (none of above or cannot say? wtf?). Curved 20% on the final. Slinky-method would be better for grading. GPA killer!
i HATED anything to do with economics (thanks to mirco) but clare made me like it. so much so that i'm actually considering majoring in it. he uses great, everyday examples that makes it so much easier to understnad. his lectures do get a bit repetitive, but he throws in a lot of funny comments and personal stories. take him!!!
Terrible professor. He's the reason one loses faith in universities. Yes he might know his stuff but he is completely "unwilling and incapable" to share this information effectively. 3 exams which count equally means if you make a mistake there's no chance of redemption. AVOID HIM...any comments below stating he is good are erroneous!!
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS..... boring as all hell . he just babbles on and on and refers to everyone as people and it bothers me. You dont need to go to class just read the book over and over and ull be ok
tough teacher: no extra credit, no homework, no attendance, no curves. just 3 midterms (90%) and a final quiz (10%)...if u go to class and read, u can most likely pull off a B or better. he does know his stuff and teaches with good examples. exams are pretty hard. avoid if you can but not necessary.
people, is that clear? no prof clare, its not. he has been by far my worst professor yet. he is beyond boring, and uses the same irritating catch phrases every 5 minutes. his exams are multiple choice where each option is different by a minute change making them extremely difficult. STAY AWAY.
This guy made me hate econ. I didn't like attending classes but doing so will help you understand the book. READ THE BOOK! and outline all the things you think are important. Do the study guide, ALL OF IT (even the discussions) and read the stuff on reserve (some isnt in the book). You will get an A, no doubt. Some people are just stupid.
Its easy to ace hsi class
He's a good (but very busy) lecturer. His tests are multiple choice (some of which are ambiguously worded), so you need to be a good test taker. Going to lecture and doing the study guide will help, but you still need to understand the assumptions/intricacies that underlie the facts (so read). TA Diep Duong was kind and helpful during office hours.
Awesome professor, tough grader (not curve, no extra credit). If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere. If you want to work for an A while actually learning the subject matter, take him. I would suggest reading the associated chapters before lecture so you have an idea of what he's talking about during class. Study hard, & you'll get an A.
Smart, tells good stories, and puts up with no bull****. Worked hard for my B+ and am pretty happy. On the other hand, it is funny once you realize that half of your lecture hall will not make it past business school apps. Welcome to the real world freshmen!
First thing to know..NO CURVE ON EXAMS. no matter what the grades are. Lectures are boring, he has no slides (at least not in IntroToMacro) just straight talking lecture. He makes a funny joke once in a while. "Festival of knowledge", BUT BEST PART WAS EXAMS ARE NOT CUMMALATIVE. its doable. but all of the exams have some very tricky q's. not easy
Addressed to the comment two below: I agree! Unfortunately, there was a lot of cheating (or so I heard).
Clare is good professor and definitely knows his stuff. Some stuff in lecture is not in the book but will be on the exam. I'd recommend reading the stuff on reserve because a bunch of exam questions are directly from there. He curved our class 5% so an 85 was an A. I don't know how he was with his other classes. I would recommend him.
I only went to maybe 2 or 3 classes for the whole semester but ended up getting a B+. U just need to study from the book a few days before the exam and u will be fine. I would recommend him.
He's not as bad as everyone says he is. He's actually a very intelligent man, and knows what he is talking about. I would recommend him to those who are serious about Economics.
His class ruined my first semester at Rutgers. I went nuts studying because he was not straightforward in his teaching. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! The people who do well cheat!
TERRIBLE class, TERRIBLE teacher. No slides, just draws lots of incomprehensible graphs on the board. Extremely boring, tests do not reflect his lectures and they're TRICKY. I studied like crazy (this was my elective) and did not do well on the tests at all. DON'T TAKE AS AN OPTIONAL ELECTIVE. This class RUINED my GPA.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN!!!!! he is the worst professor i have ever had! i went to all of his lectures but it never mattered because you can't understand a word he says or see any graph he draws on the board. TOO SLOPPY & DOES NOT CARE!!!! save yourself!!!!
Studied hard for my A and learned a lot. The graphs he goes over in classes are exactly like the ones in the books; he just has different labels but it's basically the same thing!! I don't know what the people below me are smoking.
teach as students are economists
This teacher is a terrible lecturer. I can never follow what he is saying and when he writes on the board, it is almost like reading a different language. everything on the exams is in the book so if you put a good amount of studying into that u shud do ok. there is also a study guide he puts on sakai and that helps a lot
Dont need to go to class. Read the textbook over and over and over. I got a c+ only because i bombed one exam. probably would have gotten a B
Not too hard, tests straight from the book. Doesnt care about you and lets you know that he doesnt. not a great teacher but often hilarious with his cargo pants and angry rants about extra credit, rounding up grades, bankers, and student emails. if you want a decent macro teacher who isnt too hard and says some really funny things you can do worse
Just complete the study guide u should be good
Three exams, my friend got the highest grades (97,93,101). The curve was 5,10,5 percentage points (respectively from 1st to 3rd exam). I did not go to class and I read/typed the notes from the textbook. I got a C. So if you want to do well, be like my friend--read the textbook before class and then go to class! Attendance is mandatory.
Clare is a great teacher, but his exams are very tough. Lectures are bearable, due to his snide remarks and occasional jokes. Overall, Clare is a good guy, it's just a difficult course.
Clare is very straight forward, no tricks on his exams and his grading policy is simple. That being said, his exams are tough! very tough. I bombed one of the exams and ended up with a c+ (0.2 away from a B, but he doesnt care about that). I took him twice, but most likely wont take him again.
Clare is a good teacher. Unfortunately, you won't understand the textbook UNLESS you go to his class. You will have to read the textbook as some of the questions are from it, but most are from his lectures. He is a doable "A" ONLY IF you go to every lecture. I skipped 1/3 of the lectures and got a "B."
terrible prof. very smart guy nevertheless rushed through material then at end of course tries to drag on with nonsense. seems like hes just there to collect a paycheck Easy class if your an econ major dont go to class just read book, if you are not sharp in econ dont take his section find a teacher who will teach.
He's very intelligent and knows his stuff. He comes out as arrogant but he's actually quite helpful. The class is not that hard as long as you come to lectures and take notes. Pretty much what you need to know, he'll explain during lectures.
Ridiculous. He said that the "G" in front of his name stands for God! that should give some idea about his attitude..terrible prof, good at what he teaches but doesn't know how to..only cares about money (well, so does everyone). The best about him is that he's not the worst prof. Take him if u like but u won't get much out of it
if ur in econ princinples and problems go to every lecture and take notes!!! the exams come straight from the lecture notes...everything from lecture is in the book but there is alot of info from the book not on the exams...if u study only lecture notes u will be fine
People...Is that clear. The only reason he gave him crystal clear is because he always says "is that clear". His graphs are absolutely incomprehensible and he relies on them for his lecture. He seems to be there for the cash. If you read the book you will be fine, just make sure not to cram for any of his exams. Clare occasionally is funny.
3 Midterms 30% of the grade and a final 10% of the grade and there is no homework or mandatory attendance. I LOVE this class. Just read the book try and attend class and listen. Graphs he draws are unnecessary so don't waste too much time trying to figure them out since most aren't on the exams. Just READ the book. He literally spits out same info.
This class is no joke. I worked my butt off to earn a B+. He doesn't curve or bump up your grade even if you're a tenth away from a higher grade. You must read the must in order to do well in this class. I read, reread and re-read the chapters over again. Clare forces you to know the material.
i dont know what "10% quiz" everyone here is rambling about, i don't recall any this spring 2010 semester. then again, i stopped going to lecture after the first exam. if you meticulously read the book, you'll be fine. i got an A, but i wouldn't say it was easy; it just wasn't thatt hard at all
Lecture can get boring except for his little remarks/stories. I went to most lectures but rarely paid attention. Hammer the sections of the textbook into your head and you should do fine on tests. You need to know exact wording for definitions. Read the stuff on reserve because it will be on the test.
This guy is probably the most wretched, unhappy professor rutgers has under their Econ Department. He cant teach because he's supposed to be a researcher, he makes zero time for his students, and if he does, he'll rush them out before they can really get down to the main questions, and he does not grade fairly. Stay far away from him
first thing, he comes off like he doesn't care. its obvious he knows his stuff really well but he isnt too great in being nice when you ask for help. he intimidated me but his exams weren't that difficult. i recommend keeping up with readings and taking notes on them. that's what got me through his class. go to class, read, dont get on his bad side
Pretty good professor, exams are fair. He talks a bit fast--his notes are really important for the exams (3 Multiple Choice exams).
He is a great prof. Knows his stuff and great at explaining his material. He is a jerk but it does matter because if you do what you have to do you will not run into problems with him. That's what the ta s are for. Recommend him to anyone! Best Econ prof
amazing professor! just read the book! memorize!! loved this class. no homework and for exams i just read the book over and over and did the study guides. highly recommend :)
very good teacher. if you like studying on your own this is the best class for you. no papers no hw. got an A in the 3 classes ive had with him
EWWWW OMGOSH I HATE THIS DUDE HE TALKS TO US LIKE WE SUPPOSE TO KNOW WTF HE IS TALKING ABOUT WITH OUT EVEN TEACHING!!!! EVERYONE RUUUNNNN FOR YOUR LIVES!!! DO NOT!! I REPEAT!! DO NOT!! TAKE THIS CLASS IT IS TERRIBLE HE WILL NOT CURVE GRADE AND HE DOESNT EVEN CARE ABOUT THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE HE TEACHES HE IS BORING AND TALKS WITH OUT EVEN ASKING
I don't know what people are complaining about, they must be literally retarded. He gives you a syllabus and whatever is on it will definitely be on the exam. I usually got hammered the weekend before and just studied hard on Sunday and passed with B+s. And if you're into economics, he really does know his stuff.
I would recommened this teacher, his lectures are not mandotory, you have 3 test that are 30% each and 1 final quiz which is 10% and generally the exams are made for you to pass, and you'll do well if you study.
Exams are all MC and he curves them. No homework, no papers. Final is non-cumulative. Attendance isn't necessary as long as you have the book. Highly recommended.
i got a 69.44 on the first two exams. he wouldn't give me the .56 points to get the 70. if you have an 89.99 you have a B+, not an A-. you dont have to go to lectures to do well. read the textbook and do ALL of the study guides and do them many times to do well.
clare is hilarious and a good teacher. class isnt mandatory but it helps. i barely pulled an A after the curve but i really worked for it. would recommend his class
Won't be tacking again.
harder class but learned alot...clearly knows his stuff...attendance not mandatory but definitely necessary...very fair professor and pretty funny...helps if you've taken international trade...exams aren't cumulative but can be tricky if you don't study class notes...overall a quality class but don't take if you are looking for an easy A
I transfered 4.0 gpa from the last semester to Rutgers. I took both micro and macro eco with this same professor... same semester. From day one, I didn't understand what he was saying, because he was speaking fast, and more importantly, he didn't ask if anyone had questions. HE NEVER DID, except for 1 day. I got two D's. Messed up my gpa.
hes really annoying...when he teaches you cant read what he writes and he just does not know how to teach...i read the book and memorized it for each exam
He is horrible, he write a million things on the board and no one can read them. the only grades you have are the 2 midterms and 1 final, which for me I don't like. I ended up dropping the class. He is not helpful at all and doesn't answer any e-mails.
He basically teaches what the book teaches. You can easily get a b from just reading the chapters before the test and working n the study guide. His book is only available from rutgers but it will help a lot on the exams. no curves though :(
the man!
doesn't know how to teach.
Easy B if you read textbook. Exams seem easy but no curve.
attendance is not mandatory. study well for exams and you will do fine. dont study and you will fail. simple as that
Take him if you want to learn since he knows everything about the topic. He is also really funny which never hurts. Do not rely on the negative comments you see since they are most likely freshman who have not realized that they left high school. If you keep up with the reading and attend class there is no reason you cannot pull an A/B. Take him!
Everything a college professor should be, incredibly knowledgeable on the subject matter, gives you a million opportunities to ask questions, and he is really funny. He is a hardass in the sense that he doesn't put up with any BS and there are no curves but his lectures combined with the book made it easy to understand. Would take him again.
Pretty good at teaching the material, but he has a terrible attitude. Since it was Intro to Macro he literally told us not to ask him questions so he has more time for his harder courses. He is not lenient with grades or retaking tests. The class is pretty easy, you could just study the book well and get it.
Went to class a total of 6 times including the first day and 4 exams. Basically read the required material and you'll be fine. As a lecturer he is EXTREMELY annoying and does not tolerate cell phones, laptops, etc.
Hes a stickler with cell phones and laptops. He is NOT easy. I studied super hard for all the exams and still did not get high grades. Custom textbook so it has study guides but still the tests are only 36 questions so get a few wrong you dont do well. Take him if you feel confident.
Hes the man, actually care about class and take good notes in class, and do readings for exams and you will be alright.
NOT EASY WHAT SO EVER! DO NOT TAKE! His tests are 36 multiple choice. class avg was always around a 70 and he was pleased with that....DOES NOT CURVE! Stickler with everything! AVOID
NOT easy by any means. The class has 3 non-cumulative MC exams, usually curved a bit. However, his exam questions are VERY tricky. Albeit I did skip a few classes here and there (though mostly went to class) but I also very thoroughly reviewed the material and barely got a B+.
PLEASE LISTEN TO ME:DON'T TAKE HIM IF LOOKING FOR AN EASY A. I regret not heeding what other people said about him here...Take prof. sheflin instead for a much easier A.
If you don't come to class but read the book and study hard for the exams you can pull off a B. His MC questions are hard but if you regularly attend class and put the work an A is possible not an easy one. Clare takes the material very seriously so if your not truly interested in the course its one to skip or risk a C.
Though Clare is a strict person, he is a good professor anyway. U do not need do many homework and many extra credits are free given which are extremely useful for u guys to get A. Pro.Clare is a well-known peroson in economics,u will get sound answers if u give the questions to him. Keep discussing with him for ur benefit. Anyway, enjoy the Class.
If you are really interested in Economics and/or if you want to improve your knowledge in economics, take him. Not an easy class for people who skip his lectures or don't put an effort into it. I took both micro and macro eco with him and ended up with A and B+. Exams are curved..
Extremely boring to sit through his lectures. He doesn't use slides either
His notes are disorganized and uninteresting. You can tell he doesn't care about the intro classes. Each exam has 36 multiple choice questions. You'll pass if you read the book but I never go to lectures because they just aren't helpful.
He comes off like a jerk because he does not want to deal with any BS. He is a good lecturer and the exams are not hard if you study for them. The book sucks though, it is custom made and completely unorganized. He doesn't curve making the class an easy B/B+ but difficult A. People who think this class is hard don't study or pay attention...
Only went to class like 5 times. He's hard to understand and his diagrams aren't too helpful. His textbook is good, and his lectures come from them. If you do the study guides in the back and study a significant amount, a B is easy. Only 3 tests and 1 quiz, no final.
If you think this class was hard, you're crazy. GO TO CLASS and take diligent notes and skim the book there is no reason to at least get a B. 3 exams and a final quiz. Do the study guides and take his practice exams. He emphasizes what's important in lecture. Not the nicest guy all the time but it's not a hard class.
He won't be your best friend but he is a good lecturer. He'll tell you what you need to know and answer all of your questions until you understand. It is hard to get an A in his class but it's very easy to get a B or B+ if you read and go to class.
he sucks. exams are ridiculously analytical. 36 questions takes me almost the whole time when usually a micro exam of 60 questions took me 40 mins. talks way too much about stuff that doesnt matter on the exam. no powerpoints but attendance not mandatory. no curve either
This class was not hard. The exams are very straightforward. Though his lectures are not the best (no powerpoints, just writes on the board so it is a little hard to follow sometimes), if you read the book you will do fine.
All you have to do to get an A/B in this class is READ THE MATERIAL.I can't stress enough how important that is.I haven't gone to a single class after the first exam and I am doing great. His exams are a piece of cake if you can understand the book and the additional readings he assigns. His lectures are just reinforcement. good luck!
I did not attend one lecture after the first exam. The only thing you need to do to get an A in this class in read and understand the textbook (which is pretty clear) and do a lot of practice problems (which you are given) I don't get why people say he's difficult.
Honestly the worst professor ive ever had
I found him very difficult even though he was very clear. It true he does give huge curves on his exams and no final exam either. But I still ended up with a C in his class because I found the textbook not useful at all and his exam questions are extremely tricky. For those who are majoring in Econ, take him. Those that are not, look again.
he repeats himself multiple times for you to be able to take good notes, def read the book. the practice problems he gives are very similar to the exams. his class is kinda boring, but not hard to do well just read the book, take good notes, and do the practice problems, don't cram study early and you'll do well, no homework and no attendance taken
Tests are ridiculous. You can read every word in the text us the outline and you will look and the test and have no clue. The first test had an 12 point curve. The second test had an 18 point curve and the third a 19 point curve. There were at least 50 students in my class. Something is wrong and it is not the students considering those statistics
Going to lecture is kind of pointless. He's very disorganized; he has no power points and his drawings are really sloppy. It's hard to take notes in class. The tests are relatively easy. Read the textbooks, take the practice tests, and you're guaranteed a B+/A
Handwriting is terrible, so it's hard to take notes. Material is easy but exams are unnecessarily tricky. Practice problems are good to do for the exams. I'm not a super smart person but I squeezed by with a B.
Professor Clare is a cool guy but he did not present the material in a way that was useful. I would walk out of his lectures with a headache. Concentrate on the textbook over his notes. The tests were multiple choice but fairly difficult. He gave no curves and was fairly strict with his grading scheme.
Do not take. He uses pure lecture and his handwriting is horrible. Speeds through lessons and leaves one speechless because one doesnt kno what to ask. Simply read the book and readings he assigns. Lectures are irrelevant to exams. Understand and teach yourself from the textbook or get help from someone who understands it all.
This class is NOT HARD if you do all the readings once or twice + study the study guide. (It is harder than the exams). There are big curves but people do badly because they rely on them so much.
don't need to attend a single class. I attended all the classes but the exams are completely from MUST BUY IT. the example problems in it got me an A
Honestly great professor. He does go fast but is clear in what he is saying. All you need to do to get an A is attend class, pay attention, read the book and do se practice problems. Got a B in Micro with a different Prof but got an A in Macro with Clare. His lectures are interesting. Overall I would recommend him to anybody willing to do some work
Would not recommend taking Macro with him, because it is extremely difficult to get an A. B/B+ is possible if you study a lot. But keep in mind that HE DOES NOT CURVE and the average for the exams were all low 70s. Minimum for an A was 90 so if you get just four wrong in the multiple choice you will not get an A. His lectures are boring too.
This professor's hand writing makes NO sense to me at all. I just cannot read it. He speaks too fast and do not have ppt to help us understand. I can hardly make notes on his class and I am not interested in going to his class.
You MUST read the book for this class. It will help trememdously with the exams. Prof Clare presents his lectures okay; may seem rude but is very fair. His slides on the overhead projector are very difficult to read and often times incomprehensible. This is not an easy A if you do not have an interest in the subject or do not put effort in.
Excellent professor. The fairest professor you will come by. You can absolutely get an A by going to every class and taking good notes. He is engaged in every lecture and presents the material crystal clear. I did read the book for each exam, but you do not need to if you take excellent notes.
Dr. Clare is a great professor who is so interested in his field that you cannot help but become interested even though the subject might seem boring at first. I would take all my econ classes with Dr. Clare if possible.
AVOID this professor !!! material is very difficult and he does not make it easy at all! unless you have had prior knowledge of it, you will sink fast! He gives no curve, no extra credit, he expects you to know it and that's it! And if you asked a questions he gets so offended if he feels it does not make sense! He is useless! Take another professor
Although attendance is not mandatory I would recommend going to all lectures because he explains everything in real detail. There are three tests and one quiz, no final. Not a terribly hard class.
i did not like my class with him, he is very lazy he just go to class and speak, is difficult to take notes because he speask fast, his handwrinting is awaful. exams are very straightfoward. people just do not go to lecture. u have to teach the materal yourslef. do not recommned
Dr. Clare is a good professor. The material is pretty dry if you're not passionate about economics and his handwriting is extremely difficult to read, but if you make the commitment to go to class and pay attention you'll be just fine. Reading the textbook and skipping class isn't enough. You'll learn a lot from him if you make the effort.
Dr Clare is a genius. However, there is a tradeoff. Exams are hard (no practice exams and unpredictably difficult questions). The avg for the 1st was a 74 w/ a 10 pt curve. The 2nd was a 75 w/ a 12pt curve. No course curve. If you want to do well you need to devote 9-12 hrs/week. If you can't afford that time, you will not do so well.
Probably one of the rudest professors. You ask him a question in class and he'll go on for the rest of the class about why you're wrong. His teaching style is ok, he just lecture and expects you to write fast (does not allow laptops)
You have to put genuine effort into this class if you want to get an A/B (there's no curve). His lectures are very dry but he says what needs to be taught and uses real-life examples to help you relate the material. GO TO HIS LECTURES, re-write your notes & you'll notice the things he emphasizes in class are exactly what're on his exams.
You don't wanna skip classes, cz whatever he says will be on the exams. I agree someone said previously, that you're screwed if you rely on textbook(s). A doable A, but you will learn only if you know how to teach yourself. Be aware!!! he's not gonna help you, not because he doesn't want to, but he doesn't know how to. I will not choose him again.
He isn't that bad. Just go to class and write down everything he's said even if you don't understand and then read the textbook it will help you understand what your notes are. His curves are also quite generous.
He's a good teacher. He bases his exams on his notes so go to class and jot down the notes. You HAVE to read what he tells u to read also. He's straightforward. If you go to his office hours, he's very helpful. An A is very achievable, just don't be lazy
Before taking intro to macro, I've never taken an economics course so it was very difficult for me. Professor Clare was a really bad match for me because he's way more of a lecturer. He comes off very harsh with his teaching style, but he's actually a nice guy. I ended up with a D in the class. Lectures were not helpful at all and I taught myself
The worst professor I've had at rutgers. Hes an old man that just sits at the front of the class and rambles on for the entire period. The tests are hard and he is the only economics professor that doesnt have a curve. I definitely would not recommend him to anyone
He is not helpful at all. He doesn't care if a students fails or passes or everybody drops. Exams are pretty hard, it has nothing to do with the book. If you have him as a professor good luck, need extra hard work. I understood everything but his motto is to trick you on questions which I don't understand why..
Professor Clare is amazing! he is incredibly fair and explains everything. Also, he knows economics better that anyone living on the Earth! This guys is genius! I would want to take all of my classes with him, not only economics. Take him, he is the best lecturer ever and his lectures are very interesting and funny.
Awful. just awful. He's an old man who just stands in the front of the class and talks. No powerpoints, doesn't write much on the board, and perhaps worst of all NO CURVE at all. Also you have to buy a $200 custom textbook. He is a very smart guy, but couldn't care less whether or not you pass. Plenty of better macro professors!
He's a great professor, just go to every class and take notes. I didn't crack the book open so don't bother getting it. Passed all my exams above average studying a few hours before. Pay attention/listen to his examples because they're better than reading. Easy class. A is attainable with minimal work. Didn't even do study guides and passed.
This class was an easy A. I put in minimal effort and studied night before exams. No curve but to be honest you don't need it if you study. Not hard material to grasp at all. Just key concepts. Either buy the book or go to every lecture. I preferred the lectures. Never read a drop of text.
He seems tough in the beginning but the class was not too difficult. Make sure you go to class and an A is very possible.
Hard teacher but very intelligent. He only uses an old-school projector and his handwriting is horrific so you won't get a lot of his notes, and he is hesitant to re-explain or reread them. There's no attendance but I don't see how you can pass if you don't attend. Three exams and a final quiz, no final exam.
Clare doesn't permit laptops, tablets, or recorders. He's old-fashioned: pen and paper. He doesn't bother with handouts or presentations. Get ready for a lot of note-taking and confusing supply and demand graphs.
He is a pretty good guy and he definitely knows his stuff. Going to class is a must or you will not pass the class. His exams are basically what he lectures on and the textbook is there to reinforce what he taught. Good notes are a must in his class and he rarely writes on the board. His exams are pretty easy, no final. You need to work hard.
This class is the definition of awful. No ppts or slides, just him standing infront of the room lecturing the whole time. Talks fast, extremely hard to take notes. Exams are hard, they are curved but they are HARD. Dont waste your time, way easier lower level econ electives. (warminghams classes) STAY AWAY!
GHJ BG
he's okay. not very helpful at all. comes off as rude. but is a nice guy on the inside
He's so great at explaining concepts and has perfect clarity. Readings are all related to lectures, but he only takes 10 min to have you perfectly understand something that takes hours to read. Exam all based on notes. Attendance not mandatory but absence at your own peril. Overwhelming at first but it's actually easy to get A if you keep up.
He is just an old guy who does not care about anything. Incredibly boring and he tells everyone off in a condescending speech on the first day of class and again right before the final. Ig'nant Rutgers quality at its finest.
Just lectures while occasionally writing on the chalkboard. If you do the reading before the lectures, tis great, but if you don't its pretty tough. Definitely go to class and take notes, he goes fast so be prepared. Overall I learned a lot, it was tough but worth it
Either read the textbook or pay attention to the lectures. Both together will guarantee you an A if you study. He's a great lecturer who takes pride in what he does, some people take his attitude the wrong way. Tests are multiple choice and all the material mentioned in class is actually covered.
I thought Professor Clare was great. His lectures were entertaining and are extremely helpful. With a combination of doing the readings on time and going to class, its an easy A.
He's the worst professor u can ask for. Hated his class so much
Worse professor in the Rutgers Institution, he gives no study guide for the exams, spends class time focused only on graphs. When the test comes, nothing he taught during class is on it. Makes you pay for a sapling study guide which is not helpful at all. If you email him, you will nor get a reply. Do not take this guy. Do yourself a favor.
forget about all the other people that wrote about him and listen to me... he is terrible. DO NOT take him. he needs to stop teaching. he knows what he is talking about but mostly just confuses you with the million graphs he draws and barely explains. ONCE AGAIN DO NOT TAKE HIM.
He is terrible . Don't take him. Tests are so difficult and he doesn't even give you any guide to study. He confuses you with the million graphs he draws . I will not recommend this professor to anybody.
I failed this class. I studied for every single exam, and went to every single lecture. Clare is not the professor for everyone. Trust me. Funny thing is that I'm also an econ major so his class ruined my chances of graduating on time too.
He is a verbal teacher meaning ALL his lectures are just him speaking and drawing graphs on a projector. There are ZERO powerpoints or notes to take down. This is an extremely hard class if you are someone who needs something physical to look at in order to learn. If you can learn just by hearing then this class should be easy. DONT BUY THE HW
You have to buy a $150-200 textbook, but the textbook is very helpful and goes over everything he lectures about in class. so basically, you dont have to go to class if you read the textbook and study a couple days before exams. An A is very possible but he does not curve. No final too
Umm found his class kinda confusing. I can't force myself to pay attention to him at all. If you are not going to class read the book. His exams are not too bad. Study the night before and got 80s in them so far. Honestly it's not an easy A but if you put in the work A is manageable. Just don't study the night before and expect an A.
Ok so this dude is simple. Attendance not mandatory, no homework, over all his attitude is IDGAF. 3 exams, 33% each. It is important to study notes, since most of the exam material is from there. Also study the book since his hand writing is horrible and he mumbles a lot. I didn't learn much in this class. Take different prof if you can. good luck
Very old school. He uses a projector to illustrate graphs and hard to make sense with his sloppy handwriting. He spends 60% of the class dictating notes, when he should spend more time explaining. He rushes through a lot of material. If you are excellent in math you will do good, if not take another prof. It's just a job for him. He doesn't GAF
Skip class? you will struggle. textbook was only worth it for the first exam... gives 3 exams and a quiz.. hardest class ever. the guy is old school.. extremely rude... do not take unless you want to struggle for a B..
Clare's lectures are interesting, but class isn't necessary if you just really study the textbook and prepare on your own for tests. The first 3 exams weren't hard but the last quiz was way more difficult than expected and only 12 questions. Study for the quiz, it will affect your final grade. Also, Clare doesn't curve or round up AT ALL.
Go to class and take notes. Study those notes, the e-texts, the textbook which thoroughly explains the lectures' topics if you didn't understand them, take 3 easy 40 multiple-choice question tess and an easy 12 multiple-choice question quiz, collect your B+ or A
If you're not a natural at econ, you probably won't get much out of his lectures; he doesn't really teach in a methodical manner. The rapid scrawling of graphs and illegible writing doesn't help. However, tests are pretty fair as long as you read. If anything, go to his class for some crazy stories about Nam and his rants on greedy Wall Street folk
Professor Clare is a cool guy, and gives interesting lectures. His handwriting is tough to read and he speaks quickly, but always repeats the important stuff. Come to class with a pen and paper, and you won't even have to buy the textbook. Grading is clear cut and although he will not adjust your grade even a fraction, he was approachable and nice.
If your taking Micro-Econ Introductory class just read the Text book and take notes, and do the HW on Sapling and you can definitely get an A. the material isn't hard to understand and you don't even have to show up to class as long as you just read.
There are 3 exams each worth 30% of your grade an a final 12 question quiz on the last day of class. Not difficult as long as you go to lecture and actually pay attention and take notes. Only studied from notes taken in class and got a B+. Answers all questions, and although he comes off a bit harsh definitely cares.
He's a cool guy but very old fashioned and VERY HARD. His tests are short and difficult so it's hard to do good in them plus he doesn't curve in his macro class (in other classes he does) plus he doesn't have anything else to base your grade off of. I would NOT take him if u want an A or even a good grade.
You know exactly what you're getting with him. He is very clear with notes, and as long as you write down everything he says and look it over before the exams you're good. He gives three exams and one final quiz that are all relatively easy. Easy B+, A if you do the recommended study guides in the book. No extra credit, grade is exams.
Very old schooled, doesnt do powerpoints or anything. sometimes hard to understand because he mumbles at times. He does everything on the board and his handwriting is terrible, making it really hard to read what he's doing.
Economics is his second language! He is great at what he does. 3 exams 30% each, 1 quiz for 10%. Curves everything. Gives you extra credit on the quiz. 1 extra point to your average for coming the last week of lectures. You have to work for your grade though. Read and looked over notes a few days ahead and got 80s on exams. Quiz is harder!! Got a B
Dr. Clare is a good guy and will explain things after class or in office hours, but his exams are really tough. Attendance is mandatory in the sense that everything on the exam is gone over in lecture. Don't take this class if you're looking for an easy grade. Does not curve AT ALL and there's no extra credit.
I have taken two classes with him. Really enjoyed the classes.
If you are not a natural at economics, he's not the prof for you. Does not allow electronics in any sense, seriously, don't even try. He spends most of the class drawing confusing and useless graphs. Only passed the class by reading the book and outlining and studying by myself. Honestly, I do not recommend him.
As long as you're at every class and paying attention and are taking good notes it should be an easy B, I got a B+ but was a few points behind an A because I didn't go to two or three lectures. Also try to grab a study buddy to sit with in case you miss something he says or writes. Has a bad rap but that's from people who didn't go to class...
Not bad
His tests are difficult so it's hard to do good in them plus he doesn't curve in his class.I would NOT take him if u want an A or even a good grade.
No curve in the class, but a good professor. The material can be difficult, but if you do the assigned readings before class you will definitely understand the lectures much better. He is very smart and has a lot of experience working with economic figures and models.
The only grades are exams and he is very thorough in lecture. He goes over every detail that will be on the exam, so going to class is a MUST. The reading reinforces his points. In all, the exams are very straightforward, and while he may be a little intimidating, he is a great lecturer. I would certainly recommend him.
Take good notes, don't skip class, be ready to write your notes no laptops Tests are non-cume, very straightforward
Overall, he is a fair grader. There are three midterms and a final quiz. Each midterm counts for 30% and the quiz is 10%. He ends lectures half-an-hour early usually. Though going to class is not mandatory, it is helpful as he explains exactly what will be on his exams.
On a whole, a decent class. He can be a little harsh when addressing the class as a group, but he always allowed time before exams to address any questions that individual students (or the class as a whole) may have and was always very helpful during those sessions. Interesting topic and he presents it fairly well. Exams can be somewhat tricky.
He is tough and not nice.
He writes all over the place and is somewhat vague. If you look at notes he carries, his handwriting looks pretty unclear. Wished he could have used slides instead of a chalkboard.
