Hes very nice, and very helpful. I dont really enjoy the material, but thats ok
Nice guy, but goes through the material too quickly.
goes too quickly over somethings but over all he's a good teacher
No Comments
Makes the lecture interesting with sarcasm and humor..but exams are sooooo hard!
The class was pretty easy if you showed up. It seems tough to do bad in it
he goes a little quickly, but he makes the class really interesting.
Goes too fast, does not stop for questions, & is not helpful
Bio 208 is HARD... study, study, study for the exams!!
He's a ****. This material IS NOT HARD! I am pretty sure it's his goal to ****students off and make it harder then what it needs to be.
not bad; study and you'll do fine, go to class too
Colores is a nice guy. Yes, he does move a little fast and I did not like the format of his tests...kinda tricky multiple choice questions. But Microbio is a fun, interesting course...take it!
He is a nice and sometimes funny teacher, but is often unclear. He has to correct himself many times in class. Good powerpoint and notes, though! Hard tests, too!
Easy class if you go, lab is fun and easy, prof wastes time, but material is not hard
he is very knowledgable but he is incredibly unhelpful and does not welcome questions. the class is okay if you work hard
The test questions aren't always clear. He moves a tad fast in class. He doesn't answer quesitons clearly either. Not a bad guy, but he shouldn't really teach a class. The material can be learned though, just read, take good notes and study!
Not only is he boring, but he gives the wrong information on a daily basis! It is not worth it to show up to his class.
Good teacher. BIO 208 isn't as hard as it sounds. He is very nice, class isn't that fun, but you learn most of the stuff in that class by either reading or in the lab.
I was a BIO major until I took this class with him. He takes all the fun out of science, and he just does NOT know what he's doing. He should just stop teaching. Makes life tedious.
I dont know what everyone is talking about. He's a great teacher, his tests are pretty easy, and his notes are very structured. If you're a real dumbass, then yeah it might be hard, but besides that, this class is EASY and FUN!!! Pretty easy to get an A

Easiest bio class you will ever have. If you think this is a hard class, then you shouldn't be in a major that requires it! Nice guy too.
Great teacher. Somewhat hard class. Very organized: Uses powerpoint, notes are posted on the web, very structured. Many extra credit opportunities, and fun labs. Overall great teacher!
Colores is a great professor. The tests are easy and require minimal studying. He is very organized and very helpful.
He picks out the most obscure info for tests when there is more than enough good info. He doesn't seem to like questions and doesn't know much about pre-vet and they made him advisor. I was going to major in Bio, but he's making me question that idea.
Such an easy class! Almost all review from Bio101. Awesome guy too. Labs are so much fun and notes are so structured. Tests are easy if you study. Duh! Take him!!
Interested in BIO until this class. Very hard, personally. Colores is not much to talk to, not much of a personality... probably been in school too long. Class is mentally taxing, so be prepared to work your tail off.
A fun class. Learned a lot of intersting things, and I have actually used some of them.
easy easy class, extra credit everywhere, good guy easy A for someone who is dedicated and doesnt slack
The labs are interesting and lectures you just have to take notes. The tests however are a different story. They are much more difficult than the material that he teaches you in class. It is possible to get good grades, you just have to expect more work for them.
Good guy. Easy class, just take notes in lecture. Offers extra credit EVERYWHERE. Show up for lab and you can't go wrong.
This guy is an alright teacher who gives lots of extra credit chances. The class is alright but the tests are hard. It is not a very hard class but you have to put forth a good amount of time for it
Dr. Colores gives some extra credit and if you go to class, the tests come directly from the notes. This class is only easy if you take time and effort into learning the material. The lab is awesome if you have Erica, dont be afraid to ask questions!
Best lecture I've had yet... Lab is easy... Tests are difficult since he asks very specific questions... But good class overall.
Good prof, explains things well and tries to keep things interesting. Lab's easy and helps you learn the material, the tests are from the notes and lab. Can get up to 20 pts. extra credit in the class.
Do NOT take this class! He's okay at teaching 208, but sucks at teaching at a higher level. His notes are all over the place and he doesn't know what he's teaching. He can't answer questions b/c he's dumbfounded by himself. The exams are completely random. He tests you on things you haven't done in class and I'm sure he'd get C's on his own test!
Hes a very good teacher. Very clear and very precise. If you study his notes you are guranteed to get a A.
He's a good prof. in that he gives extra credit and is pretty nice to be around. But, his lectures are pretty boring. Lab is pretty easy and it boosts everyone's grades. His notes are a little skimpy so make sure to read and re-read the book - that's how I got an A.
Does not answer questions. He confuses himself with his own test and lectures. Seems to not like students.
Offers plenty of extra credit. Lab is super easy and boosts your grade a ton. Gives practice exams. Nice guy. Enjoys teaching micro.
he is so sarcastic dont like him , i dont think he his a fair professor
I love Dr. Colores. He offers links to practice tests and answers to questions on line. He uses both notes to lecture and power points to make it interesting. It is a difficult class, but he helps a lot and makes it so worth it!
He's alright. He offers extra credit a lot, but it's usually like watching a whole movie, typing a paper and then its only worth one point. The exams are about 4 times harder than the practice tests. The labs are good. really fun and really easy! i actually looked forward to going to lab. hard to get an A, but not impossible.

tests are difficult. he always clears his throat during lecture and sometimes loses track of what he was saying. sometimes i wondered if he even knew what he was talking about. and he didn't offer any extra credit. not really recommended if you are looking for a good grade in bio.
I don't know what everyone is talking about with the extra credit? doctor colores never gave my lecture extra credit.....His style of lecturing is really poor. his tests are EXTREAMLY difficult, he's not a good professor at all in my opinion. do not recommend him to anyone who wants to be successful.
Dr. Colores was a decent professor with a good teaching style. However, it felt like he was covering too much material in a short period of time so it made studying for exams really stressful. I didn't really have a problem with him otherwise, and I'd assume that he'd be better in a class that was more specialized to what he does.
Awful awful teacher. Wants you to fail. He made a graph after the last test showing that the average was a failing grade. A girl in class asked if we could have an addendum like extra credit, he laughed and said no. Dont take this class.
Awful!
pretty much impossible to follow! Awful at explaining things, no extra credit. Really rude to me about turning in an assignment 2 mins late. Id definitely look for a new professor
Very easy class. Go to class, take good notes and it's a walk in the park. He's very approachable and even if you do bad in the lecture, the super easy lab will save your grade. He gives practice tests and assigns only the book problems that will be related to what's on the test. I would recommend him to anyone taking Micro. Very Good Prof.!!!
Colores is the man. People are hating cuz they study for a test the night before and wonder why the average is a failing grade. I got 102% on his first exam because he is a good teacher who tells you what you need to know. He's also really cool and funny. I'd laugh too if someone asked for an addendum on an easy test. Take him.
Good guy. If you go to class, take notes, and take the time to get in some good studying for exams you will do fine. He does offer many extra credit opportunities. I would recommend taking him.
Colores did a good job explaining the material and giving great notes and what he expected out of us on the exams. Just go to class and take the notes, study the study guides come exam time, and you'll be looking at an A. I look forward to taking more classes with him as a prof.
Very easy professor. I had him for bio 110 and 208 and he was great for both. Provided a ton of E.C. for micro and the lab is super easy so it will boost your grade dramatically.
Very different in micro than with this class. Exams were much more difficult with little to no multiple choice. But not a hard class. One group presentation that was pretty easy was also required.
Did a good job. Just pay attention in lecture and you'll do fine.
Not a great teacher, goes through the power points really fast, too fast, not too helpful.
He thinks he is funny. He is quite the trickster when it comes to his exams. DOES NOT help students at all if they go to his office hours, he will just make some obscene joke and tell you to deal with it. To mention he really doesn't care about your grade and he changes his mind on how he will grade the class. I regret having him as my teacher.
Not very interesting in class, hard to pay attention. Tests were pretty hard. If you go every time and pay attention you should be fine but it's difficult.
Goes though notes very fast, he is a decent teacher, but the tests are rediculous. Way harder and not related to the notes. The lab is good. Extra credit is offered, but very low pt value for alot of effort. tests=very bad. studying probably would not help..didnt help me off of the notes...read book entirely if you want a chance at passing.
Ok Prof, very hard tests. Studied over 12 hours for the cumulative final and still did horrible. Attendance is not mandatory but he does have random in-class activities. Great TA's for lab. Went to talk to prof about poor test scores and he did nothing and made me feel like an idiot. Reading the book is the only way you will pass, notes are useless
Tests are impossible! While dr colores is a nice person, I should've taken someone else for microbiology. He gives a lot of in class notes (which I studied A LOT) and still did poorly on most of his exams. He is very confusing about what exactly is going to be on his exams, which is very frustrating. the super easy lab saved my grade.
Dr. Colores is a good guy, but not the greatest prof. He doesn't seem available to students and his tests are very hard. The lab is fun and interesting and will save your grade!
Your grade in lecture depends a lot on your ability to apply the concepts. I loved this class and Colores is a really funny guy. If you truly understand the concepts you should be good. I finished with A's on all of his his exams so they aren't impossible
Professor Colores is very funny, so lectures aren't too hard to pay attention during. Labs are pretty easy, and enjoyable. I learned a lot from this class.
Dr. Colores is a nice guy, but just not the greatest professor. The notes he gives do not go into depth so the tests are difficult. The lab is what saved my grade. Lab was very fun and I enjoyed going, lecture on the other hand, not so much. You have to pay attention and read chapters if you want to do well.
In the most respectful way possible, he is a terrible teacher. His notes are difficult to follow, exams are incredibly hard, lectures are dry, and he seems distant from students. I'm a junior and have had two C's out of all my education. I might fail his class. If you have to take him, treat it as your second most important class
His exams are all application questions of microbiology. He's very distant and difficult to talk to. Taking him was the worst choice I've made in my undergrad. I'll be retaking this class thanks to the difficulty of exams. Lab is all that shows you grace.
Look up online videos over what he goes over in class. If you're a visual learner, this professor is not for you. His notes consist of putting up a few bullet points on a projector screen and then rambles. He does actually test over his rambling. Most students I've spoken with said this class is a nightmare
Colores is easy to understand and helpful if you have questions over the material. The class grade is completely based on test scores. However, if you read the material in the book you should be fine. He is a very nice guy and the tests are not too bad if you come to lecture and read the material.
It's microbiology people it's hard! Exams are based on lab mostly but you have to go to lecture. His exams also follow his notes. Read the book it'll help. He gives prettty good study guides. Its hard but lab saves you. I'd recommend.
I don't generally like biology, but I am a biochem major. I thought this class went a little more in depth from the majority of BIO 110. Colores is super nice, the concepts are just hard to grasp. I would recommend a tutor to help clarify the processes and what not.
He was a pretty cool guy, funny and very approachable. Lab was always interesting and got out early quite a bit. Lecture was boring sometimes, exams were hit or miss.
Great teacher, some of the exams can be a bit difficult if you miss class, but if you pay attention its fairly easy to get an A/B
I really like Dr. Colores he knows what he's talking about and very approachable after class. He's a little funny, but he is very passionate about what he does.
He is the worst professor that I have ever seen. He is not helpful or cooperative, and his exams are extremely hard. I recommend not to take this class with this professor.
Thought the class concepts overall were not difficult however, his teaching style is boring and strictly notes in lecture. Not an interesting teacher at all. Only reads off powerpoints, very dull.
Dr. Colores was not helpful at all. He has a very simplistic way of explaining things. I once spent about 8 hours studying and reading the book and still failed the exam. Definitely go to the SI sessions. James Dunn is awesome at explaining things and is very helpful. Lab is super easy also, and go to class.
This class is hard. Colores is not the best professor for this class. I studied almost 8 hours for each exam and got a D on all of them. His exams are application of microbiology and lecture does not really help much. SI sessions helped a little bit. I will be retaking the class with another professor.
His lectures are very simplistic he gives out 20 pts extra credit but his exams are beyond difficult. I studied went to SI showed up for lecture and his office hours and still did not do that hot on his exams. SI was the most helpful I would go to those James Dunn explained everything so much better he should of taught the class not Dr C
Need to go to class. 20 points of extra credit given. Literally memorize the notes and you will get at least a B. Readtake notes for labs because they will show up on the exams as well. Colores is super friendly and willing to help if you just ask. Just don't wait until the night before to study and you should get at least a B.
He puts questions on exams that require you to actually think about microbiology instead of just regurgitating information that you memorized. Read the book! He teaches you the general idea of the topic in class. You then need to read about it in depth in the book if you want to get an A. Class is challenging but not impossible.
Colores is a great guy. I love his lectures and he is very passionate and educated in micro and really willing to help you. His exams are pretty brutal, though. Even after each lecture and outlining all the readings its still really difficult material to understand. The lab really helps. No homework assignments. Some extra credit.
I personally found his teaching style very hard to work with. If you enjoy teaching yourself then this class will be perfect for you. His lectures were always very indirect. If you want to pass his class I suggest reading the book and to just not rely on his lectures for learning at all. His exams were very hard.
I loved this professor! If you take the time to learn the material (even though it may be boring) then you will do great. Lab is very fun, and isn't a drag to go to twice a week. Study for exams, and I suggest to read the book. He gives great notes, so try to write them all down. Overall, I would definitely take him again.
Dr. Colores is a very good professor. He makes you work for your grade, but offers a ton of extra credit. The material is difficult, but Dr. Colores makes it easier. He makes a hard course very manageable. Notes are organized and easy to follow. It's definitely possible to get an A.
So here what you NEED to do to be successful: When you feel yourself struggling, go to office hours, do the pre-readings, go to class, study after every weeks lecture and go to SI sessions. This class is not easy and if you don't exhaust your resources you won't do well. He does teach straight from the book and there are many EC opportunities
I opened my book maybe 2 times the first part of the semester that I had him. The lectures are long and boring. There's quizzes sometimes but you get to work in groups. Tests are extremely hard so I'd recommend going to class and studying a lot. The study guides don't really help at all. You don't have to go to class but you'll be way behind.
The lab is easy, I had over 100% by the end of the semester. The class is hard-I found it very hard. I finished .8% from a B-, giving me my first C+ at CMU. Disappointing, but if you put in the time and effort to study for his exams I am sure you will do fine.
He seems to be confused during lecture sometimes, stumbles over his words and can sometimes make you confused about what he's talking about. Exams are pretty tough, lots of information so make sure you study and read the book too. Lab is an easy A. You get about 20 points of extra credit which helps a lot!
Dr. Colores is a little awkward, but most scientist are. He explains things so well and is really nice! I went to his office hours and he made a whole study sheet for me to practice with. The classes he teaches can be challenging but he makes them easier and enjoyable.
Dr. Colores is a great guy who is very willing to help you if you ask. His exams are not multiple choice so you have to study pretty hard. The exams are mostly based off the notes and the in class assignments. The notes he gives don't go into great detail, so the textbook will be very helpful while studying. There a group presentation also.
Dr. Colores is lecture heavy, but easy to listen to. He's passionate about biology and he gives great notes, but his tests are so impossible. You have to live and breathe biology if you want to do well in his class. The level of difficulty for this course is way too high for a level 200 class.
This class was tougher than I expected. His tests are very much based off the notes, which you need to come to class to get. There are group assignments as well, and a project at the end. He does reviews before the tests, but they were rarely very helpful because the test was set up very differently. Only uses 3/4 tests, so you can skip the final.
I really enjoyed Colores, but I also just really enjoyed the subject (Bio of bacteria). Colores is a good professor who gives lectures that are pretty straight forward. His tests weren't bad, but there were definitely some tough questions that you don't expect to be on the tests. Don't miss out on easy group homework points. Colores loves blue.
Extremely lecture heavy, appears to take no responsibility for students failing in his class. He shows up, does his job and leaves. Nice guy but does not care about his students succeeding. Lectures felt like a biology crash course. As long as you go to every class and pay attention to every single word he says you'll be fine. Otherwise its hard.
Does not teach the way he tests. When taking a test you will wonder when he went over that in class. Not very helpful. Would find a different professor for this class. Not very caring.
A nice guy, but not the best professor. Heavily relies on the slideshows to teach, doesnt really know answers when you ask questions, and makes the pre-course quizzes much harder then they need to be. Tests are extremely difficult and worded awfully, reccomend a different professor.
Nice guy but this was a pretty difficult class. Exams are more difficult than the material in the notes are and you need to come to class every day because most of the notes aren't on Bb, plus there is graded class work on random days. Easy group presentation and optional final exam
Dr. Colores is a really nice guy and a good professor. It is a little bit more difficult to teach with an active learning approach, but he is very accessible outside of class and is willing to help and explain things to you better than he could in class. Would definitely recommend!
If you do the readings, homework, and in-class activities, then you'll do well in the class, but make sure to keep up on them. He doesn't do much in-class teaching of new concepts so make sure to do the readings or you'll be confused.
BIO112 was the hardest course ive taken yet. My first time not getting an A. The active learning style was horrible. You basically taught yourself everything, but had no way of knowing if you taught yourself correctly. There was no traditional lecture during class nor was there traditional notes.
Dr. Colores is one of my favorite professors here at CMU. He is caring, funny, and very helpful when trying to learn the material. He is very good at explaining difficult concepts. He taught the lab as well since it was a small class which really made lab doable. Highly recommend the professor and the class. Great lecture and lab.
I took only half of this class and it was a while ago, so really all I remember is that the tests are TOUGH. I had taken half the course before and taken an incomplete (and ended up taking another incomplete for this semester), and he was pretty flexible.... Labs were hard. Even though I had taken half the course before I was still doing worse.
Dr. Colores is a nice teacher, but I found his class difficult. Most of the class time is spent doing in-class quizzes/ group worksheets. The exams cover a lot of material and are hard. This class challenged me and is not an easy A. The exams are lockdown browser, but multiple choice. Overall, he is a good professor teaching a difficult class.
I love Dr. Colores. He teaches difficult material really well. That said, the exams were often difficult and didn't reflect what was on the study guide. I would highly recommend re-visiting past assignments. He also gave us an exam the week before giving us a cumulative final. I also like that it was a small class, so he taught the lab as well.
Dr. Colores has a quiz at the beginning of class, they are usually easy as long as you take notes over the reading. His exams are tough, but generally, they aren't terrible as long as you give yourself time to study. There is a lot of self-teaching, but I found it handy to watch videos or look at images to get a good concept of the material.
Dr. Colores is literally awesome. He is so funny and really cares about his students. As long as you try, you will succeed in this class. I normally would dread lab but he made it so much fun.
Dr. Colores' class is challenging, but engaging. The active learning format means you'll need to put in the work, but Unstuck ai and study groups can be helpful. Exams are tough, so don't underestimate the material.
He is a very nice person, but a horrible teacher. His exams and quizzes are very specific, so you basically have to memorize the entire text book just in case he puts a super specific question in there.
