good old country boy, old school views which helped in my case. would take again.
I enjoyed his practical industry perspective. He has personal examples for almost every concept that make good mnemonics. He's very entertaining - he kept me awake through 8am class.
Jokes during class. Reads exams to class the day before. Cites practical knowledge frequently. Powerpoint lectures every day. Usually dismisses early. Three exams and random quizzes to make up your grade, so go to class. Overall I'm pleased with the class.
great professor, practical aswell
Good prof. kept it interesting all the time, learned a lot.
industry experience lends weight to what the man has to say. straightforward, tells you most important material. Pay attention and use any resources he offers and you should be good
No need to go to class, its a waste of time. All of his exams are from the book, so you better read. His lists power points, but they don't really help. He gives very little extra credit. I found his class boring and will not take him agian
Took him online. He never responded to my questions. Just plain ignored me. Uses a test bank for his tests, so the questions are easy. Gives a quiz to prepare you that you can use the book for and the questions are also on the test. Not a good instructor, but an easy class.
Dickens has a nice personality, he likes to story tell alot so the class can go on till the last minute. His tests are vocab for the most part, print out the slides he gives you for better chance of a good test grade. he does surprise quizes that are as easy as "what is my name" just to hurt those that are not in class. GO TO CLASS
If you want a good grade, take his class online so you can easily look up the answers in the powerpoints or textbook. I took his class in class and got screwed over. He teaches nothing on the test and then tells you not to use the powerpoints to study for the test. I had to rely on the powerpoints and study every single thing on it to prepare. GL!
Tests are kindof hard, but he gives a review the class day before the exam and basically reads the exam to you. He's a funny guy; a little intimidating at first, but he's very nice. He has quizzes when a lot of people don't show up in class as extra credit for those who are there.
I took him for MGMT 3310 and MGIS 3310. MGMT 3310 was easy and he made it interesting thats why I took him for MGIS. Different story in MGIS!!! His reviews did not match the test questions. His powerpoints were long and had so much information. No papers or projects in either class though.
took his principles mngt class also and just a good teacher all around. funny, curses so you know hes good, and explains everything. for this MGIS course you dont need a book just his power points and he verbally tells you what to study. MNGT course get the book and just do key terms. GREAT PROF!!!
He truly cares about his students and their well being. He will work with you only if you have put the effort in. Best Prof at Sam Houston by far!TAKE HIM!quizzes online, homeowrk online, test in person. 4 tests.
Attend class and read the chapters. All of the material for the tests come directly from the book. If you need help, he will help you. Don't be afraid to ask.
His lectures are either very boring or very interesting, depending on what day it is. Either way, the only way to really make an A is to read the chapters and study hard. The A is definitely manageable and you might even learn something.
He is a very good teacher and cares about his students. Study the power point and read the book. Mostly power point for tests.
Dickens is a passionate teacher. He cares that you learn how the real world works. Hes funny and very blunt. Study his powerpoints and skim through the book and his tests are easily passable. 3 tests and a Comprehensive final.
EASY CLASS. There will be 3 assignments each week. One practice exam, one official exam, and one discussion assignment to respond to and respond to one other classmate. You have ample time to complete the assignments. Test bank questions all multiple choice.
Awesome professor, made the lectures fun with his stories. Not a hard class at all, but if you fall behind one the quizzes, you're screwed. A lot of material on tests but it is doable if you study
Awesome professor, very passionate about helping you understand how the world works. Great stories during his lectures. If you do all the quizzes and read the book, you should have no issues. Teacher is willing work with you and assist in areas you don’t understand.
Good class, I would recommend it online. Tests are long, but plenty of time to finish work. Be prepared to spend about 2 hours a week finishing each module. Every week a practice test, quiz, discussion, and reply are due.
I took his class during the summer. He was very nice and funny. He wants to help us succeed and learn. Tests were straight from the book. Good professor.
Awesome professor! He loves what he is doing. Class is easy, make sure you go over the powerpoints and go to class during the review day. easy A
Where to begin.. This Man is devoted to his students, he is a wonderful teacher. I recommend him to any student. You can not go wrong taking him!!
This professor is devoted to his students. He is very passionate about this topic and super smart. He is willing to help his students as long as you are in class and participate in lectures. Buy the book and bring power points to class. You need to study for his tests, and if you truly do that, you will make a good grade! Highly recommended!!!
Amazing professor! He'll tell you his class will be the easiest one you take, but he makes you work for your grade. It was not an easy A. He is really funny and has a ton of stories that he incorporates into his lectures to help students understand conceptsterms. I'm taking him again this Spring for MGIS. Love this guy!
He's not a sophisticated professor. He doesn't lecture he talks to you about the topics making it very easy to listen. He mentions things that are familiar like Amazon or Walmart. I downloaded the ppts on my school account, followed along in class, and put asterisks by the important topics he pointed out and studied that. Made an 89.
Tries to make it interesting, encourages class discussion. Four mc tests (4th was Comp Final) and online quizzes (where all the test questions come from) which you can take as many times as you want, guaranteeing you know what is on test. Show up. Listen. Read the book. Take the quizzes. Easy A. Nice guy. Great teacher. Blunt, but cares.
I took him for the 1st MGIS class. Please take him! Class is super easy, just be sure to write down the review he gives you before each test! He's an awesome guy and if you need help with anything, he is more than willing. Big redneck and hilarious, actually knows what he's talking about! Really chill would take him again, and I actually am lol.
Took this class online. Signed in every Sunday. Two chapters due a week. I did not buy the book. I was able to find everything I needed through power points and notes. You had to participate in a discussion board. Take a practice quiz (graded) then an actual quiz. Tests were every couple weeks. Easy final. Multiple choice tests. Prof very nice.
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken. I would take this class online because ALL of his exams are posted to Quizlet. It's an Easy "A"!! The only thing that sucks, is you have to do a project using SAP. What makes it hard is the instructions aren't clear so you can get stuck on some questions, other than that I highly recommend taking him!
Great teacher and is willing to work with you as long as you participate and work for your grade.
The lectures are good but you still have to go home and read the chapter because he doesn't cover a lot of the test material. He picks some very obscure things to test over that are not in the notes and not emphasized in the book. The chapters are pretty long (25+ pgs) and pretty boring so it's extremely tedious. 2 chapters per week, 6 per test.
Probably one of the most laid back professors I've had. Just do the reading and the quizzes and it's simple.
He is the best professor, he really understands his students! I recommend taking him for management. There is a lot of reading, and his test aren't easy, but if you put effort in reading the book you will pass!
If you have to take management 3310, I absolutely insist on this class online. It was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. It is very straightforward. You have one forum question, one practice set of questions and one quiz due a week. There are only 4 exams and the questions are the EXACT same as the ones on the homework/quizzes.
This class was very straightforward, read the chapters, take the practice quiz, post your discussion and take the quiz. The professor was helpful if need be but there really wasn't a need to communicate with him frequently. Material is moderately easy.
This was by far one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. There are 2 chapter quizzes each week, you can take them as many times as you want. If you take each one 15xs each you get all the questions in the test bank. The test questions come from the quiz questions and the final comes from the test questions. You have to put in effort, but easy!
This professor is such a great instructor. He is straight forward and enjoys teaching. He is passionate about helping and cares for all his students. Study your terms and you'll pass with an A!
I bought the book and never used it so save your money. His lectures are to the point and if you print out the power points he will tell you exactly what is on the test. Tests are long (80 questions) but to the point. There are a few projects but show up and participate and you WILL make an A. I am taking him again in the fall.
He is a very relaxed professor and tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests from the PowerPoints. He likes to talk a lot about what is going on in today's day which is fun. He likes to use the occasional curse word. Pop quizzes are extra bonus points but are easy like what song did you listen to last. Best professor I have taken so far!
I can't say enough awesome things! Hands down the best teacher ever. He truly is there for his students and will help you succeed. TAKE HIM! You won't regret it.
Awesome professor
This professor is amazing, his class is very instructional and easy to take if you read the book. Discussions, practice quiz and quizzes for every chapter. If you read and participate you will get an A.
Great online professor. You just have to do the assignments and you will be fine. Not proctored so its an easy A. You do have to do write on the discussion board and reply to other but other than that its just quizzes and tests. I did not buy the book and made an A in his class.
The most sympathetic professor I have ever meet in my life. Nice guy a lot of life lessons to learn from this man
This man is a real one. so down to earth willing to help you out so sympathetic
MUST TAKE THIS MAN!!!!! There is so many great things I could say about this man but you would have to take him to understand how amazing he is.
Took him online. Not a hard class but he doesnt put lecture online so youre stuck with the book and PowerPoints.
He is a great professor. reads of the powerpoints and tells you what will be on the test. Test are hard, but the class gets easier as you go. However, if you find resources then the test should be really easy. 3 test and a final. The final is fair and easy.
Prof. had his moments, but I would not take him again. 70-85 multiple choice question exams, only 4 of them. No extra credit. Dry, boring lectures. Questions come from book test bank. Must have the book, must read before class. Test review is almost no help. If he is nice enough to set up the quizzes, do them all. Only way I passed the class.
Tests are 75-80 multiple choice. Took him in class. You will have to desicate all your time to his class to pass. Read to do well on tests. his Quizes are the test.
He is the type of teacher who will straight up tell you how it is. You will either like him or hate him depending on your personality. He is very blunt, an amazing professor, his lectures tends to stay in your head. He teaches by giving relatable life lessons. By far, my favorite professor.
He is so helpful. He will work with you.
Good teacher. He provides power points for each chapter, but they aren't very detailed, so you will have to read your textbook. He gives practice quizzes that are a bit challenging, but he pulls his test questions from them, so they are very useful. He gives 3 tests and a final that is comprehensive. He gives surprise quizzes that are extra credit.
"GET OUTTA MY HEAD" is what you'll be saying once you leave his class. Super caring guy with a big heart; however, he is very straight forward. Provides realistic examples and great advice. He truly wants to motivate his students without stressing them out. 100% would take this professor again.
I have taken him twice now. When I took him for management, I loved it. This semester he started using Proctor Free. He gave the same questions that he did when you were able to use your book which I do not think is fair. Questions on test are extremely hard. All memorization, no learning. He has no lectures online either.
Great Porf. I took online class which was very straight forward but be ready to read a lot. There are 3 exams, plus a final. Exams are kind of very long like 100 MCQ each. Every week a practice, quiz and a discussion required. As long as you actually read the book and understands the definitions, you will do fine.
Honestly the best professor youll ever have in your life. Extremely easy classes and youll have fun taking them. Gives a lot of extra credit and opportunities. Truly cares about his students
He has pretests on BB that are the same questions as the tests. Do it enough times and you will be able to get an A on the tests. Final consists of questions from the test. He teaches by personal experience stories but you have to read the book to actually learn what's on the tests and final.
Caring man really wants students to do well. Quizzes on BB are helpful, do them, read the book, and you'll pass. He teaches by power points and relates the class topics to real life situations. Great man, just read and do what he says to do. He won't steer you wrong. 3 test, 1 final exam.
Take this professor, especially for an online class. Each chapter you had a practice set, quiz, and discussion post. The only bad thing about this class is that each test covers at least 7 chapters, so you have to be able to memorize a lot of material at once. Quizlet is very helpful for this class.....
IDK what happened to this guy bc all of his reviews are really good. I was surprised when he said we will be taking weekly exams worth 20pts each x12. He doesn't teach his class at all. Ht seems like a caring guy, but he has no idea how to run his MGIS3310 class, and it shows. Do not pick this dude.
he proctors the exams when all the other online MGIS professors my friends have, dont. It doesnt seem fair to me. Especially with exams that are 80 questions long. Lots of memorization, absolutely no learning. You can study quizlets that exist online, but the exam is proctored, so you really need to learn all questions for 4 chapters at a time
I took this class online. Pretty straight forward. For each chapter you have a group discussion a practice quiz followed by another quiz. None of the assignments are drastically long or hard. The only thing I disliked about this class was the ridiculous long exams that consist of 100 questions. Other then that it wasnt to bad.
He talks a lot about anything other than class material, wasting lecture time. You'll have to self teach to make a decent grade. Read the textbook! Practice quizzes offered with multiple attempts and for a grade so take them all, questions show up on exam. Very test heavy, your only grades are the exams and quizzes. Nice guy but not a great TEACHer
Ive heard other people took this professor and he didnt proctor tests (camera) this semester he decided to and the test study guides can have over 400 terms easy (tests are 100 questions) so I thought that made the class more tedious and difficult. Overall if you do the work and study hard for each test and final you should be fine.
DO NOT take this class online! The professor provides no instruction and there is so much to cover in the class you would be better off going to class.
I took this class during summer 1. Easy content- just get it out of the way. But i will say he gives you things to do daily- discussion, quiz, and practice due everyday. A lot to learn, but it's easy stuff. 3 exams and 1 final at the end. He provides you powerpoints but i recommend the book too. Good professor, but super hard to get in contact with
If you do the discussions, and quizzes then it's an easy A. He gives a lot of extra credit.
easy class but this wont respond to an email to save his life. good luck if you have an emergency as well.
If you want to learn, this professor isn't the one. Terrible at responding to emails and doesn't really grade the discussion boards until the end of the semester. Discussion board, 50 question practice, 20 question quizzes due each week. 80 question exams. Powerpoints and book reading are how this professor "teaches". I don't recommend him.
No lectures. All quizzes and exams are multiple choice. No lectures but read the book. I used Quizlet to study for exams because all questions from quizzes are on the exams and final. 1 discussion post a week-he does not grade any of the 19 until end of semester. Gives 2 points of extra credit per week.
Lays it out flat for you!! Scan chapters and take notes. Practice quizzes because test were not open notes. Syllabus is CRYSTAL CLEAR!! If you miss an assignment it really is your fault. PPT are helpful. Straight to the point. 5 exams. no extra credit needed. Discussion and comment weekly (opinion based). Final is open notes. Proctored.
This prof, was very caring. If you try and study you will pass. Each week we had a practice quiz, quiz, and discussion post. 3 test and then a final. the 3 tests were webcam.
I took the 7 1/2 week class and in total there are 12 chapters, 3 major tests (these are proctored), a SAP assignment, and a lab. Each chapter has a discussion post, a graded practice quiz, and the final quiz for the chapter. It was very manageable and we were given more than enough time to do everything.
He lays everything out very clearly at the start of the semester. Not much communication needed from the professor to complete this course. 19 chapters, 19 practice quizzes, 19 regular quizzes, 19 discussion posts, 3 exams and a final. READ the textbook. No lectures, just powerpoints. More time consuming than anything.
Graded on discussions, 25 question practice quizzes, 15 question quizzes, 3 exams, 1 final exam. There are 19 chapters and each require a discussion, practice quiz, and quiz. All exams are 100 questions. Let us have until Dec 8th to finish the class on our own pace there were no mandatory due dates.
I would highly recommend taking a different professor. This guy is non existent throughout the entire semester, so only take him if you like that approach. Also, he leaves the entire course open which may be fine to some, but not those of us who like structure; which has made my journey in his class considerably difficult instead of simple.
HILARIOUS & truly cares. Tells funny, relevant real-life stories that teach critical thinking. Often lets out super early. Exam questions are EXACTLY the same as weekly homework and quiz questions--found on Quizlet (beware of wrong ones)! Also weekly discussion posts and in-class labs. I only used the book for discussions but I found a free pdf.
This was a 7 1/2 week course so it was super easy! The professor was super nice as well. We had a practice homework, quiz, and discussion due for every chapter. Since it was fast paced, 5-6 chapters were due every 2 weeks. He had 3 exams and a final, proctored. But they were easy if you can remember the homework. I would definitely recommend.
Terrible prof
He was a super good professor. I had him for summer so he had everything due on the last day which I actually liked, but don't procrastinate because it will catch up. It was a discussion, practice, and quiz per chapter but all really easy. He also had 4 tests but also easy. Lectures were pretty clear and simple. Recommend him and would take again.
Literally the easiest class of my semester. 2 discussions, 1 practice quiz, 1 quiz due every week (all are literally on quizlet). 3 exams(proctored) 100 questions each. 1 final exam(NOT proctored). Literally just make a quizlet about the quiz's and practice quiz's questions and memorize them you will get a 100 on the exams.
Easy to stay focused and awake, even in an 8 am class. He has a lot of personal experience and real-world examples that apply. He cares about his students. He does give a lot of homework, read your textbook. Every week you have 2 discussions, practice sets, and quizzes due. The tests are recycled questions from the practice sets, so they are easy.
Mr. Dickens is a professor who has no trouble speaking his mind about the material he covers, the life experiences he has had, or stressing the homework and exams by opening them all on the first day of class and leaving a week for 2 chapters. He cusses alot in his lecture but he is one of the most selfless and most caring professor's I've ever had
You will have to read the chapters to do well in this class. The practices and quizzes are exactly like the exams so if you do well on those you will be fine. The first 3 exams require lockdown monitor however, the final is open note/book. He gives extra credit opportunities so do them. Overall really enjoyed his class and would take him again.
If you are a student who needs the lectures to understand the course, he might not be for you. If you're a student dealing with any mental health issues and need someone to show you they care, please take his class. He is a breath of fresh air to students that feel unsuccessful and will give them sometimes more life lessons than course lessons!
He is really good. You can complete every assignment by using Quizlet. The first 3 tests are proctored with a webcam however it is from the same test bank as the assignments so if you study those you will ace them. The final replaces your lowest test grade and it isn't proctored.
Just keep up with the due dates of the homework and you should be able to keep up.
Professor Dickens and his Online Curriculum are a great opportunity for students with busy lives to participate and excel in college. If you have a tight schedule and need to work on your own time, I highly recommend this professor.
The most caring professor I have ever seen at shsu! He loves to tell stories in his lecture and makes everything super funny and relatable to understanding mgmt! His exams are the only down side, they're 100-question exams that is proctored online. His homework is very straightforward every week!
My favorite professor this semester. He treats his students like adults and understands that his students have a life outside of college. Do the homework, quizzes, discussions, and exams and you will pass. Quick response time to emails
Appreciates the people who actually show up and will offer extra credit to those who show up. Very entertaining and a good professor. 2 practice quizzes, 2 quizzes, and 2 discussions due every Sunday night. Time consuming, but is manageable. 100 question exams proctored. Study the quizzes and you will be good.
Dickens loves to boast about himself. He spends HALF of every class talking about barely-related or completely unrelated things going on in his life. He blazes through his powerpoints and never elaborates further, combined with the talking at the beginning going to lecture is completely valueless. Dickens' conduct overall is unprofessional.
I didn't pay my tuition to hear Dickens' life story, I paid it to learn. Swearing so excessively to the point of being annoying. Avoids actually teaching as much as possible, instead ranting and raving about his ongoing life. You could never attend except for tests and just read and do the assignments and get an A easily. Doesn't know how to teach.
Great professor!
Awesome class. Stress free. 6 chapters per exam. 3 exams. 1 cummulative open book final. Each chapter has a practice quiz (25 q), you can take as many times as you want, most recent grade counts. Quizzes (15 q) are same questions from practice quizzes. Exams (100 q) are same questions as PQ and Quizzes. Do the work and you'll make an A.
He was great!
3 exams and weekly online quizzes. Answers online. All exams and quizzes are online. Exams have LockDown Browers. He is a caring teacher and gives days off depending on how far we're in the class. Goes off-topic a lot and tells his life story every class. Goes through the slides pretty quickly.
Class isn't mandatory but he gave away lots of extra credit for going. Went off-topic a lot but taught me some decent life lessons. 3 exams are proctored, 1 comprehensive final is open note. If you make quizlets of practice quizzes & quizzes and study that, you will get an A. I see him in the hallways and he always says hello, take him for easy A.
Great professor! Extra credit given if you go to class. Tests are not bad and the final is open everything. Just do the work and you will be fine. Lectures are great and he is pretty funny. Do not need to read.
SHSU Legend, this guy was the best prof ever. Everything is opened from day 1 so just spend a week doing it all and your basically done with the class. The lectures aren't much of lectures and are more like motivational speech's so if your not into that, you don't need to go. Learned a lot, easy A. Take him, don't even think abt anyone else.
I took this class over the Summer and it was manageable and very straight forward. All the test are the same questions so study the quizzes and you will do good! There are 4 tests and all the tests are on lockdown browser. Take him for an easy A as long as you do the work!
How to get an A in his course: 1: Do practice quizzes until you get a 100%, copy and paste all questions to a word doc. 2: ctrl-f word doc for quiz and test answers (no proctoring) 3: Answer discussion posts (90% sure he doesn't read them) You don't need to read the textbook or attend lectures. Mad easy but this guy is an a-hole.
The coursework is incredibly easy. Repeat prep quizzes until you're sick of them, and keep the questions. Zero attendance policy, but I recommend you go anyway. They were memorable, correlated to the chapters, and he occasionally offered extra credit. By no means is he professional (he swears sometimes), but I loved his class. Highly recommend.
Not once did I learn anything from a textbook in this class but I sure did learn a lot of life lessons. the course work is extremely easy so if thats hat you're looking for, take his class. he swears a lot and sounds like an a-hole sometimes but he rlly does care abt his students. hes a great guy and really just wants everyone to be healthy & happy
Everything that is on the homework and quizzes and exams are in the book. You can do the homework as much as you want before it is due. Professor Dickens sometimes uses strong language while talking, but it didn't bother me or take away from my learning. He shares a lot about his life and gives real life examples for the topics he teaches about.
Great professor who makes the class stress-free. Lots of extra credit for attendance, and the work is manageable if you stay on top of the quizzes and practice materials. I found unstuckstudy really helpful for quiz prep. Definitely take this class if you want an easy A!
Seems like a tough, hard dude but is a softie!! Tests are exactly same as quiz questions, just a large bank that you have to study from, so do re-do quizzes as much as possible and study those questions for good grades on tests! All online but I suggest showing up to class cuz he is just a great guy with great lecture material.
The best professor at SHSU. He cares about his students' well-being. Expectations from the course are outlined from day 1. His lectures can be interesting. All the content for the class is available from day 1 and can be completed within 2 weeks (or less).
Amazing professor. I would take him for every single class if I could. He does have a colorful vocabulary so if you have sensitive ears, I wouldn't recommend but if you can tough it out he is 100% worth it. He's honestly changed my outlook and motivation on life.
Loved his class! You have to try to fail his class! Each week has a short discussion post, a quiz prep (which is a practice quiz with unlimited attempts), and a short quiz. And every 6 chapters, there is an exam. But if you study his PowerPoints and the preps/quizzes, you can easily get an A on the exams. His preps come from the exam question bank.
Honestly take him not only is he easy he is also very understanding if you cant attend class for emergencies or other things you know. He is sometimes funny and he's not a difficult grader If you do the classwork you will be good ! I would say take him his class is very stress free.
I took this in-person knowing but treated it as online. All the course materials opens first day. 2 chapters due every 1-2 weeks - I was able to get pretty ahead. 1 discussion board, 1 prep MCQ, and 1 quiz per chapter. Can do preps many times and quiz questions are similar - open note. Exam questions are the same on quizzes and preps, proctored.
