The best teacher ever! Very passionate, very nice, very clear lecture, and very interesting overall. It's the first time I study political science and he makes everything easy. He cares about student a lot! Take notes in class, though.

Very nice teacher but he dosent go over the testing material well, except for the essay tests. So you will have to do a decent amount of studying yourself and be well prepared for his multiple choice tests as there not the easiest things.

If you want to know who is the best teacher at De Anza? Look up Druehl. I'm amazed at the amount of passion this man has for teaching. He makes me want to come to class everyday.

He's an intelligent teacher that focuses more on student participation and discussions for grading. A lot of reading and breifings = a heavy workload for this class but Druehl is a kind professor and a very fair grader.

Very easy class. Lax attendance policy. It will cost you about $30-60 to do the group research briefing, so be aware of that. Tests were straightforward. Midterm dealt mostly with stuff from text. Final dealt with student briefings and The Economist.

Druehl really cares for his students. If you go to his office hours, he tells you how to write the essay in order to get an A. He's extremely nice and fair with grading!!!hE really wants the best for his students. I learned so much...

definitely one of the best teachers here at de anza...he goes into the psychological aspects of many of the political leaders unlike other professors who go over things like the percentage of dems/reps....i strongly recommend druehl

I think that this teacher is great. He's really nice, funny and he goes over all the material very clearly. He's the easiest poli sci teacher, and he assigns student a tutor that goes over all the tests w/ u. I recommend him. He's a democrat so make sure you never say anything bad about democrats!!

Funny and interesting lectures, even if they don't cover the textbook material. Asks you to read a chapter a week, but you don't have to if you know basic government. Pushes back test dates a lot. In-class essays are a breeze if you took US History AP in high school.

The only way to get a bad grade is not to pay attention. His lectures are very detailed and homework is relatively easy. Its a hard class and you spend a lot of time studying. If you don't want to study, then don't take this class.

Greg is surely the MAN! His class are jam-packed of exciting topics and of students. His class is soooh popular that even by end of quarter, some students have to sit on the ground because no one has dropped out of the class! That should tell you something! Lots of info on what comes up on exams and lots of xtra credit. A little work gives solid A!

Class is mostly lecture with some exchange with students. He doesnt push his political agenda like some of the other teacher. Tutor center has a study group. Its more work, but make the test easier.

Keeps you interested; incorporates current events into discussion; plenty of extra credit; if you do the work (read the text, do the articles) you will excel (easy A) and be smarter for it. Does impose his beliefs into his lectures, but what prof doesn't?

on first day of a class, he raised everyone's morale by telling me/us how important education is all about. 2nd thing is he cares so much for his students to pass or possibily to get As by giving us tons of x-tra credits. quizes and midterms are reasonable. Awesome teacher! He talks during the entire lecture and often tells you, "That's a good test question" so you have an idea of what he'll look for on tests. Take the adjunct class and it'll be even easier. Make sure to at least read chapter summaries and attend lectures. You miss a lot if you miss class. Do articles and extra credit!

He is a teacher who loves his subject, which makes him very energized. He draws the student in and makes for semi-entertaining classes. He assigns a good amount of work, but as long as you keep up on it you wont have problem. He offers ALOT of extra credit, do at least one and you will be fine.

He goes off the lectures into these meaningless stories, never stays on topic, and never meets his test deadlines. Easy, but not the best approach to political sciences.

Druehl has passion about what he teaches--unfortunately the majority of what he teaches is based on the notion that government is inherently corrupt. Easy A for sure, just keep up and do the extra credit. Take notes when he says "this will be a great test question". If you want an intensive look into political science, this isn't your best option.

Great teacher! He loves politics and will get you into it as well! His lectures are kind of random facts so when you're in class, which is mandatory, take detailed notes. He'll pretty much tell you "this is going to be on the test so write it down."

actually not as good as they said below because he is not good at having "enough" time for the lectures meaning he doesn't cover anything we need. Eventually, he goes too fast and rushes us for the exams. The exams seem hard because of that.

I love this guy! His lectures are engrossing I think mostly because it feels like he is talking casually to you instead of lecturing. Easy A, lots of EC opportunities and textbook reading isn't necessary (despite what he says). He is really sweet. I would take him again if I could.

He's one of the best, if not the best professor at De Anza...I admire his attempts to be unbiased and instead bash both sides! Do the work and you'll get an A. Do the extra credit too. If during the notes he says "this is a good test question," believe him. I went into the Final with 109% in the class, so you should do well too

Druehl is the best teacher i have had at De Anza, his lectures are really interesting, and he has a lot of energy. He really gets you to think about politics, the class was easy, you do have to study but all you really need to do is memorize the vocab words and attend lectures, because the stuff he lectures on is half the test. Awesome Teacher!!

Gregory Druehl is hella cool! He can definitely teach POLI SCI! He has taught at SJSU & Stanford besides De Anza College! He is the best POLI 1 instructor on De Anza Campus! If any of you need to take POLI 1 to transfer to CSU I would highly recommend taking his class because no POLI 1 instructor is cool like him!

Wow! Great teacher! His class is hard but all the intro poli sci classes are equally hard, and it?s not rocket science. His lectured don?t go hand in hand with the text book and both are on the test but he gives great lectures. He is smart, knowledgeable, wise. I appreciate government and politics allot more. Lastly a great person.

The extra credit is hard for me to do because I dont have a driver license to go to attend court cases and council meeting. BTW wtever he put on the exams that is about bush, just choose the most negative answer against him

by far one of the best professors at deanza. mr. druehl teaches with a passion and is extremely helpful. attendance is not mandatory but despite that his lectures are extremely helpful. his test are hard so dont think of this class as a two-a-day class. take him. really coo prof.

I don't think I have ever worked this hard in a long time. But the best part about it: I loved it. If you are a polisci or IR major, then this will be a rewarding and challenging experience. Druehl is amazing, and I wish i had taken POLI 1 with him as well. Don't be intimidated by the briefing (I was) because it's actually lots of fun!

Awesome, fun lectures. Easy to follow, tells you in lectures exactly what you need to know. Tests are mostly based on his lectures, so do take notes. Very easy tests, I didn't even read the book. Tends to postpone tests. Somewhat unorganized but very helpful & understanding (i went on a trip & had to make up a test, he was very nice about it)

Attendance is mandatory because he gives exams based off of his lectures (often says "this will probably be on the test or I will test you on"). He does fall behind easily according to his schedule, probably because he incorporates real life politics. No study guide, reading the book isn't necessary, but know the vocab words from the book.

I can only say, I never missed a single class from Dr. Druehl! His classes are really fun and interesting, which you will enjoy yourself much! Midterms are simple and straight forward, with MC questions. He is always behined schedule, but he offers quite a lot of extra credits; not much work, but classes you will fine you learn from him. =]

Easy A. Dont even think about ditching class cuz 80% to 90% of the test is based on the lecture. Extra credits help alot for the grade. (3 big test and 1 final) Highly recommended!

first off, the class is not rigged. that's ridiculous. plus tutors aren't the ones assigning grades, mr. druehl is. i got an A and i didn't take the adjunct skill class. polisci isn't even my major, nor do i have a special interest in it. some students will make up any excuse to put the blame on others rather than themselves whenever they fail.

I had professor Druehl for PoliSci 1 and 3. I liked his teaching style a lot. He keeps the class relevant and interesting by incorporating current events. His exams are long, but if you paid attention to his lectures and knew the vocab he assigned, it was all good. It's a shame if he did actually retire. He was one of the better profs. at DeAnza.

Offers a good amount of extra credit, semi difficult exams but his lectures are always amazing since he's full of energy to keep you awake. A great teacher since hes unbiased and doesnt try to influence you on what to set your political views to be. Thats pretty important for a poly sci teacher. =D

If I could back to the register time, i wouldnt take his class. It is funny but tons of work keeps u busy all the time and u dont even know what kind of question he will ask in the test . everything he mentioned would be in the test plus textbook..need hella work..sigh!

Professor Druehl is an awesome teacher and very knowledgable in Government. I was affraid that I would do bad, but honestly many of this stuff I knew. Dr. Druehl is an incredible teacher I felt I learned more about Government especially with what's going on today. Lectures are really interesting especially getting other students perspectives. This class is very interested even if your not a Poli major. I recommend taking it with Prof. Druehl because if you pay attention, take good notes, read chapters you'll get a good grade on the midterms. The books are expensive, he does have a book lending program which is a great deal. You should definitely take because it's a fun class.

Love love love the class. Learnt a lot about politics and recent US and world news from Prof Druehl. The lecture is actually FUN to listen to. In order to get a good grade, you MUST read the book and TAKE GOOD NOTES. A wonderful learning experience! Highly recommend!

Professor Druehl is amazing! He is clearly passionate about the subject and gets you very interested in it as well. He is uber clear and straight forward with what he is teaching. He will tell you exactly what's on the test but make the test difficult enough to require reading. I HIGHLY recommend this teacher. A++++

If you need to take Poli 1, then wait until he's teaching a class (he only teaches once or twice a year). I don't like Poli Sci, but I really liked the class and found it easy. Not much work, many extra credit opportunities. The text costs a lot and couldn't be resold, but old versions are okay, so get a cheap one! He has some copies to loan out.

Druehl's class is what's up!!! Here is the skinny, I'm maybe an overall B Student on average, I studied hard and went to every class; I got an A+ the class! (he also gives a good amount of Extra Credit)I would not say the class in Easy but he LOVES the subject so much he will make you enjoy it too. For Tests read ch.'s in the textbook. A MUST TAKE!

Prof Druel loves what he do and very approachable. Just don't miss a class, because tests are usually based on the stories he told in class. He wants student to get good grades, so talk to him if you have any problems. He gives lots of Extra credit opportunities, so do them and get an A.

Seriously one of the best professors at De Anza. I took this class over the summer and actually looked forward to class everyday because his lectures were interesting and entertaining. And I'm NOT a politics person! It's clear that Druehl loves what he does and truly cares for his students. Oh and he's HILARIOUS. MUST TAKE!!!!

He's a decent professor though not one of my favorites. I took this class during the summer. I would advise waiting to take it through a three month quarter; there is a lot of information to memorize. I would have received a grade better than my B if I'd waited until fall. Passing is not difficult. He does care about the subject. I would recommend.

Very interesting. Homework takes about 15 minutes per week. 1 essay test, the rest are multiple choice. Take good notes in class and the book and everything is easy. Had a lot of fun :)

i took this class last quarter, and the only thing that made it easy was the extra credit. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT (TRY TO DO The MOST YOU CAN). i got an A+ with it. i studied for about 1-2 hours for each of his 3 mid terms and got B's which were usually curved up to B+'sA's. You mainly talk about current events, but sometimes his class feels boring

Professor Druehl is an amazing person and lecturer. He always used current events to illustrate his points and told very fun stories. Very minimal homework (article summary once every two weeks) and then study classnotes and read the book (a couple hours) before the exam and you'll do great. Lots of extra credit opportunities! I love attending this class even though the class is at 7:30-8:20am every morning from M-Th. There is never a boring day of lecture. He really knows how to engage his students and make his subject relate able to past and present events. If you want to pass the class you MUST attend lecture, because his tests are also base a lot on lecture

This teacher was amazing. I did two of the extra credits and got an easy A+. He gives a 3 midterms, 1 essay and 2 multiple choice. Everything he says in class may be on the test, but it isn't bad because if you showed up the questions are very straight forward. He doesn't teach from the textbook, so you do have to skim the chapter. Loved the class.

The lectures are very clear. The exams can be challenge if you do not show up in class. He is there if you never need his help. He teaches poli science with passion. There is no way you can fail the class unless you did not even try.

Most caring, encouraging, funny professor I've ever had. Exams comes from text book (key terms mostly) and lecture. Students that don't show up to class will most likely end up with a C or D or F Greg lectures like he's doing a political stand-up routine like Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart, which makes it worth coming to class everyday.

Greg is awesome! Only work to do in his class are 6 Opinion articles, some extra credit and the rest comes from exams. The only way you can fail this class if you don't show up, that if you don't study hard. Greg is very inspirational and encouraging, he makes you believe that you can do anything in the world as long as you work hard.

Professor Druehl is HILARIOUS! He makes his lectures fun, and compelling, especially on how its election year and he'd talked a lot about that, especially taking shots at the Republicans. His exams weren't that bad as long as you study hard like he says and show up. Druehl even lets you borrow the text book for the quarter, but its first come!

Greg makes coming to class early in the morning worth it! His lectures focus on what's on the textbook and current events like the 2016 election and all covered on the exams. Greg really CARES so much about his students he even looked over my personal essay for UC transfer, he does whatever he can to help his students to success!

What more can I say about him! He's the best professor Id ever had! The work in the class wasn't that hard, just current event papers, and exams which weren't as hard as he said. My favorite thing about him is that he's so encouraging, Id thought I would only transfer apply to local CSUs or UCs, but Id applied everywhere! All because of him!

Poli sci isn't my strong suit so Im glad I took it with Druehl. He gives funny energetic lectures and inspires me to work hard for what I want and desire in life. The one hard thing is that sometimes it's a challenge to read his handwriting on the white board. Haha but all in all I recommend him.

Druehl doesn't pushes you into being a political activist, not that I don't care about my community, I don't like being force into it. Take his class if you are international students, you can learn lots of American policies. Exam is easy, and his lecture will help you do well on every exam. He is a funny guy. Even first exam is inclass writing, he will give you title and keywords couple days before exam. Just write down to earn credit. Easy A! !

He is awesome. I would recommend him, especially to non-native English speakers since there was no group discussion involved in class. I doubt the importance of group discussion in an introductory course because it tends to be superficial, so his teaching style was ideal for me. He provides lots of extra credits & it's not hard at all to get an A!

He is a fantastic lecturer. If you are a strong note taker you'll do well. I'm not and still got the A. His tests are rough. Diabolical multiple choice questions, definitely not my favorite. Plenty of extra credit if you're able to take advantage, sadly I wasn't. He did work something out with me but I was only able to get half the points.

Professor Druehl is wonderful. Yes, you have to be a strong note taker, since a lot of his questions come from the notes. Yes, you may read a lot. It is a political science class, what do you expect? I really recommend him to those who really want to know more about the U.S. politics and world affairs. His text is easy if you focus in the class.

This is an amazing POLI1 professor. I aspire to go to law school and his lectures have only motivated me to continue my plans. You have to study the textbook and your lecture notes for the tests. During his lectures he will tell you what is on the test. He is down to earth and passionate about government& politics. I defiantly recommend!

This professor is hilarious. He gives extra credits and I am an international student so some of the vocabularies were hard for me but he made me interested on the topics. Professor Druehl gives students the opportunity to get easy A. He will give homeworks every week and two extra credits. Make sure you do your weekly homeworks because it will boost your score. Also make sure you read the key term that he gives in class before the test and you will pass this class easily. Only lazy people who failed his class.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this class because politics is simply not a subject that I am personally interested in. However, taking this class transformed that mindset of mine. This class is an EASY A if you attend the lectures and do the reading. You need to follow politics in the news to do well. He offers a TON of extra credit. A courthouse visit, a city council meeting and an easy opinion article. Anything above 89.5% is an A so it's super easy. If you don't get an A, it's because you're lazy or don't speak English.

This class is a lecture heavy, test heavy, and assignment heavy class. BUT this class is super easy! He gives 3 extra credit opportunities and those extra credit are super easy. Just write down his lecture and review the key terms from the book because the tests are based on those things. AND submit your assignments!

Druehl's class is mostly test based with a few at home assignments. He likes to say "that's on the test" and when he does that's something you've gotta keep track of and remember for when the test comes around. Makes things interesting enough if you're into politics.

Dreuhl is extremely kind and very funny - his laugh is hilarious! He's passionate about history and often goes off with stories, but they're usually relevant to the class. He doesn't have an official study guide but puts up papers on the overhead with terms to study for and during lectures he'll let you know. Class is easy if you pay attention.

Amazing and funny lectures. He wants you to do well in the class. Don't overstudy or you will not do well on tests. Make sure to take proper notes in his class. Memorization and hard work will get you nowhere, but creative work will.

He made an effort to look at more than one perspective and not add biased opinions, which I appreciate. I personally don't find poli sci very interesting, but his lectures aren't too bad. As long as you pay attention in class and read through the book, you shouldn't have to do much additional studying at all. I got over a 100 on every assignment.

Professor Druehl is a solid professor. His class is lecture-heavy, and information from lectures is always on the tests, so you have to attend class. His lectures are engaging and informative, without being biased. As long as you come to class, take notes, and read the textbook, you will be able to get a good grade in his class.

I loved this class! Professor Druehl brings past and current newspaper and magazine clippings as examples and makes a good effort to not show bias. BEWARE!! There is no canvas and there is no way to turn assignments in online. He uses email for contacting us. As long as the no online aspect is ok with you, Take him without hesitations!!

To do well in this class 1. Go to lecture 2. Take notes Prof Druehl goes over everything you need to know, in an unbiased and interesting manner. He is a great lecturer. There is no Canvas, but everything is outlined in the syllabus. Take good notes during the lecture and you will be fine. I found this class engaging and ended up learning a lot.

Mr. Druehl is a great professor. I took his class in Fall 2021, and I am writing this review in 2023 after remembering what a great class this was. He is a memorable professor that I have a lot of respect for. He gives engaging lectures and is a wonderful teacher! I always recommend his class to everyone I know that attends De Anza.

Lecture heavy but easy/clear grading. Prof. Druehl employs his strong knowledge of the American political system to talk over his overhead notes and interesting newspaper clippings of current/past events. Readily sympathizes with his younger students b/c he was a student protestor himself, against the Vietnam War! Sweet, funny, and open-minded.

Nightmare Final Exam

Although his class is a bit hard, the exam is almost entirely based on his lectures. It's good that his exams usually has more than 100% of the total points. If you record his lectures and take notes, you should be fine.

I LOVEE Druehl! He was such an amazing prof, and I'm so glad I chose his class. His assignments are very easy, and his extra credit is great too. I recommend everyone to take him as a teacher. I had his 8AM class, and even with waking up that early it was worth it. Made the topic interesting and felt myself become passionate for the subject. Make sure to write down everything he says as his exams are open note. Attend every class as no lecture material is online. 10/10 class.
