he is great! so interesting and funny in lectures and his test is really easy on dinosaurs.
really funny guy - only part of bio worth going to when i had it - kept things interesting and different - test was pretty easy - not a bad lookin guy either
He was definitely very interesting. He made jokes, and for the test review, he gave us every possible question that could be on the test! I would definitely take his class again if given the opportunity.
Dr. Erickson was hot and he was an awesome teacher!! He actually made learning about dinosaurs very interesting and appealing. He's hot and he gave away money... yay!!! Go Erickson!!
Helpful and class was always interesting...great teaching methods and attitude!
This guy is hilarious! He makes learning about the dinosaur chapter interesting. He is such a good teacher. His cheesey jokes will keep you laughing, plus he throws out real money into the audience!
My favorite professor period. He was sooo in to what he was teaching and it was really interesting. I would definitly take any of his classes again!
Great funny guy! Makes dinosaurs interesting. Only part of biology worth going to.
He made us interested in the topic. I don't like paleobiology or dinosaurs, but he made it interesting. He was very enthusiastic and gave us test questions.
Great course!
He made class very interesting! I loved his jokes, it was fun just sitting in lecture. The material wasn't the easiest, but he was very helpful and I loved the course.
Dr. Erickson was the best!! I can honestly say it was the only time I didnt skip one of the lectures for bio. He made dinosaurs fun, which is a feat all by itself, and to top it off he throws money off the balcony! I would recommend him to everyone
Only time i actually enjoyed bio! I missed way less classes when he taught versus the other profs. His book clearly outlines what will be on the test!
Great teacher. If you go to class, he tries to make the lectures interesting - even though the material is probably new to everyone taking the class. Excellent teacher, knows his stuff & is passionate about it. It was my favorite part of the BSC1005 class!
Great teacher. Very interesting and passionate about dinosaurs. Reminds me of Ross Gellar from 'Friends'. Textbook is layed out clearly and test questions are BOLDED throughout the text. (How easy is that??) I actually went to class & enjoyed myself (especially with his qwirky tactics like the live band and money throwing)
This guy is dynomite teacher, but a lousy softball player. He should spend more time in a batting cage and less time preparing lectures. BTW--If you get a chance ask him why his nickname is "Hermans".
No, not big bird! Prof. Erickson made an already interesting subject and made it the one class I actually couldn't wait for. I would recommend him to all.
I love Dr. Erikson! I didn't want to miss class when he was teaching his section of Bio. I would love to take another class from him. Super easy, too.
You could tell he was extremely passionate about his subject, and loved what he did. Came to every class with tons of energy. Cracks jokes whenever he can about what he's teaching and keeps the class interested. one of my favorite professors yet.
Erickson is amazing, but AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. its not required for bio majors, and if u need anatomy for grad school, take anat/physio with nursing majors. this class covers an insane amount of material and the tests/practicals are ridiculous. to show you how ridic it is, he says the average is usually a 60-something. fair warning
This professor is amazing, but the course itself is very difficult. If you are interested in comparative anatomy, this class will still be difficult. That being said, Erickson does understand that, therefore he applies a curve. I wouldn't take this course with any other professor.
Excellent teacher! Had him for BSC1005 for 4 weeks and he lectured about dinosaurs. He tells lots of jokes and is clearly passionate about Paleobiology. He makes the class very easy and tells you exactly whats going to be on the test. An all around Great teacher!
Dr.Erickson is the best professor at FSU! This class is hard, you will need to commit time to study, however Dr. Erickson does apply curves to every exam and really wants to help you succeed. If you get a chance, take him, you will not regret it! Great Professor but be prepared to put effort into learning the material and studying.
Dr. Erickson is the best professor I've had a FSU! So fun, so engaging, I actually looked forward to going to class. He really knows his stuff and is very passionate about it. He's pretty funny too. That being said, this class is HARD. If you're not willing to put in a butt-load of your time, might not be for you.
Best Professor at FSU! He is very energetic and loves to teach. The class is very hard and does take a great effort on your part to study and learn the material. However, Dr.Erickson is really willing to spend one-on-one time with you in lab and teach you why something is the way it is. Take him if possible! You won't regret it! He's the best! :)
I really just want to second the comment "AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. its not required for bio majors. this class covers an insane amount of material and the tests/practicals are ridiculous. to show you how ridic it is, he says the average is usually a 60-something. fair warning" No complaints about the teacher, but the lecture/lab are not good
I absolutely love him. He taught the dinosaur unit of the bio for non-bio majors lecture. I dont care much for science but I would get up to be at that 9 o'clock class just to see him. He is funny, entertaining, and informational. If you get a chance to take a class of his, Do NOT pass up that opportunity!!!
Had him for the Dino unit of Baby Bio and he was the absolute best! So entertaining, so knowledgeable, super smart guy who is also very personable and funny! If you go to his lectures, he will tell you which questions you will be tested on, so you're an idiot if you don't go! Then you'll have less to study when the exam comes around!!
Dr. Erickson is THE BEST part about bsc1005, if you havnt gone to bio up until his section-go now! He is hilarious, super passionate, funny, interesting etc. He will tell you exactly what is on his test. He will make you love dinosaurs :)
Dr. Erickson is definitely the best part of Baby Bio. He is not only a great teacher but also very entertaining. He will tell you exactly what you need to know for the Unit Exam, which makes it easy.
Dr. Erickson was a teacher for the BSC1005 class. I thought he taught well but a lot of the material was confusing.
Dr. Erickson is by far the best professor I have had. His lectures are very fun and makes the 50 minutes go by so quickly. Really funny guy, loves teaching, and loves what he is talking about. Really Amazing.
Guys, this is such a cool teacher. He loves the material and is really into it that you kinda get intrigued by the subject itself! Great lectures that the times fly and he is so funny! Plus, he is so clear; he literally tells you what is important for the test. Wish I could take him again!
Very funny. Never seen a professor climb to catwalk and throw money down at students. Made the class very interesting. Tells you everything that will be on tests in lecture. Pretty easy class.
He was very entertaining when it came to attending class. He WANTS you to pass, and would tell you what exactly he wanted you to know for the exam. His one homework assignment was super easy and you could do until you got a 100%. If you go to class and take notes on what he says and look through the book a little you're guaranteed an A.
Erikson was probably the best professor I have had since I have been at Florida State. He engages the class very well, and is hilarious. His test is very easy and he literally hints at every single test question throughout the classes.
Dr. Erickson is such a funny guy and he gave great lectures. He is passionate about the subject of dinosaur paleobiology and let's everyone know what material is most important for the test. He makes the material as interesting possible. Read the book, focus on highlighted sections and you will do fine.
Dr. Erickson was hilarious. Baby Bio is a really lame class, but his section about dinosaurs is really interesting and he's awesome! I also saw him at First Friday at a stand called 'Ask a Scientist', which I thought was cool! His office hours were all day every day (M-F from 10am-6pm). He and FSU r really famous, he has dinosaurs named after him!
Dr. Erickson was hilarious and made learning about dinosaurs interesting and fun. He breaks down the subject so that it's easy to understand and tells you exactly what's on the test.
AMAZING teacher, hilarious and this class is impossible to fail. He shows you everything you need to know for the tests, makes the class fun (it's herpetology by the way) and he's on shows like Discovery channel and BBC! I could take this class a million times and not get bored, the lab has fun field trips where you catch reptiles and amphibians.
Funny guy. Good teacher
This guy made BSC 1005 bearable. More than that, I actually looked forward to his lectures!
Awesome. Simply awesome.
Dr. Erickson was easily my favorite professor in baby bio. He played Good Morning by Kanye at the beginning of the very first class. He is super funny and tries to make the material really interesting (it's dinosaurs though so not too hard). Although attendance is not mandatory I really find myself wanting to go to class.
Take him! Hes awesome!
He is absolutely fantastic in every single way. I don't care if you have zero interest in dinosaurs, you need this man in your life. He is hilarious and genuinely passionate and enthusiastic about his field and beams with warmth and positivity. Dr. Erickson is seriously the best and I always looked forward to coming to his class.
Dr. Erickson is hilarious, he throws money into the class during lecture and cracks jokes every 2 minutes. Dinosaurs may seem boring but he keeps you laughing and tells you exactly what's going to be on the tests.
Extremely hilarious and an amazing teacher!!! Would take another course with him hands down! So awesome.
I liked Dr. Erickson a lot! I learned a lot in his class, and because the amount of information can be overwhelming, he tells you what he wants you to know for the test so you can actually learn! He is really funny and I definitely recommend going to class because he makes learning about dinosaurs fun
Dr. Erickson is one of the greatest professors I've had at FSU. He makes the class so interesting and entertaining. If you know nothing about dinosaurs, you will end up learning a lot and you will enjoy going to his lectures. He is a 10/10 professor and a 100/10 person!
Professor Erickson is what any good professor should strive to be like. He is entertaining, makes the class easy to understand, but still doesn't just hand you a passing grade. He is also very funny, and knows what he's talking about. He communicates effectively. I wish I could take him again, but I'm not a science major.
Herpetology was a fun class overall. You learned about specimens in lecture/lab, then went to catch them out in nature. His exams were not terrible, but you're required to know a lot of material and it's easy to forget things. Lab quizzes were difficult, as you're required to know scientific names for preserved specimens that lost their color.
Easily the hardest class I've taken. The amount of information on each test is crazy but the curve is huge. The lab exams are super hard, really pay attention and take notes in lab. If you want proof that the curves are great, a 30 ended up being the cut off for a C-. If you can, take this class! It really is great.
This is a very difficult class but it's curved. There are lecture exams and lab practicals. The professor is super sweet and loves to teach! He loves to make jokes and it makes lectures fun! Final is 30% of your grade and exams make up 60% of your grade so STUDY a LOT for this class (weeks in advance). An A is definitely attainable.
Dr. Erickson's Living With Dinosaurs unit in BSC1005 was very interesting and fun. His background and professional expertise very much improved the quality of the lectures. He can be pretty funny as well. Each unit has a notebook that mirrors all of the lectures, and attendance is not taken, so the only benefit to going to class is iClicker points.
It's a privilege to be taught by this professor; just google him and you'll see! You NEED to dedicate a lot of time for this class in order to do well. It's nearly all memorization & critical thinking. The exams are not multiple choice. Study 3 weeks in advance for each exam and you'll do at least average. Best professor at FSU. DEFINITELY take
Easily my favorite class taken in undergrad. While it's a lot of work and tons of memorization, the work pays off. I had so much fun in this class, and Dr. Erickson and the TA's are all great. I'd take it again if I could! Pay attention in lab!!
Lectures are very entertaining! Attendance is not mandatory but going is very helpful and worth it. Lab exams are tricky and studying far in advance is the only way to do well before the curve. It seems like a hard class to fail but a lot of work is needed for an A. Prof really cares about students.
Makes a ton of jokes. Does a review before the test, but his lectures are fun and interesting so I'd recommend going. I didn't use the book, but went to the lectures and was fine (Got a B+ on the exam). He once dropped money from the ceiling while trying to measure out if a dinosaur could fit in the building. The one hw assignment we had was easy.
He doesn't speak like a normal professor, he speaks like a normal person. He's really funny and its almost impossible to fail the class. He once climbed onto the rafters and threw down money.
This course will literally drain your soul. You will die a slow, painful death as you memorize hundreds of facts that arent relevant unless you go into the field. I used to cry myself to sleep at night because everything was so boring. Ericksons a great prof and the curve is good, but even that doesnt account for the torture that is this class.
Made learning information in lectures super entertaining. Super chill and not a lot of work.
Professor Erickson was extremely entertaining and his lectures were interesting. There was only one assignment for his unit and it was helpful.
He is an absolutely amazing professor. Never had a professor that made me laugh as he does. He weaves jokes into his lectures and you can tell how passionate he is. As the class progresses you really respect him for how much he has done in furthering his study. He will literally TELL you exactly what will be on the test.
Def one of my favorite professors ever. He's very entertaining not to mention absolutely hilarious. Has cool stories and basically tells you straight up when you need to note something specific b/c it's on the test. I had no interest in dino's going into his class, but now I find them fascinating.
Dr. Erickson was amazing. He's super funny, tells you exactly what will be on the tests (like questions and their answers). He genuinely cared for his students and for sure wanted to get them passionate about his subject, especially for this gen ed class. Im not a bio major, but im for sure taking him again if he has any other classes
He is super passionate and loves what he teaches. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Easy final exam. Would recommend. But take notes.
Literally the best. The exam was on canvas and was open note so if you take notes you should be fine. So much extra credit opportunity and he's so fun!!
This man made me excited to wake up for a 9am lecture everyday. I had no interest in paleobiology coming into the class, but his stories and unmatched antics actually had me consider changing my major! Amazing and incredibly engaging Prof!
He makes class as easy as possible, repeating the facts he wants you to know for the test constantly. I definitely learned a lot about dinosaurs, but I feel he perpetuates the "why should I be here if this isn't my major" attitude with his standards. He is very passionate and can be entertaining (but will also make insensitive jokes from 2004).
Honestly my favorite out of the 4 professors from this class. He has a hilarious personality and would take this class again just for him. He's active with the lecture and teaches the dinosaur section of the class!
I loved this professor he is so kind and funny and he made me care about what he was teaching he had a great understanding of the fact that we are non stem majors and taught as such didnt expect anything crazy from us and I finished his section with 106%
only good prof in baby bio, actually kept me interested and garnered my attention. He taught the dinosaur unit and made it super fun. I showed up to class everyday because he was literally so nice and entertaining. Rewarded us with money and prizes. test was based mostly on the book so i recommend buying it for all the sections.
Best prof ever. He is hilarious and an absolute expert in his field. Made this class ten times better.
Professor Erickson was a wonderful professor, he made me want to come to class each day. He would play music before class to get us engaged and constantly made us intrigued in the work. He was awesome! Highly recommend taking him!!!
Awesome professor! Probably one of the best I had! Intriguing lectures that kept my attention the whole period. His passion for dinosaurs and his work is contagious!
Had Dr. Erickson for Baby Bio, and he is quite frankly the best professor I have had! Would definitely recommend taking his class.
Professor Erickson is by far one of my favorite professors at FSU and in the course BSC1005L. You can tell he is truly passionate about dinosaurs and he grabs your interest as well w/o bombarding you with too much information. He is very easy-flowing and kind. He tells you what to remember for the exams and played rock music before class started!
This professor for baby bio was my favorite. He's so funny and keeps his lectures entertaining. He would blast rock music as people walked in at the beginning of class and made lectures fun even with thousands of students. It's obvious he loves his job.
Dr. Erickson is by far my favorite lecturer out of all 4 in BSC1005. He was so funny and engaging to listen to in class. There is a lot of content covered, but he makes sure that you know what will be covered on his exam. Attendance is not mandatory, but going to lectures will set you up for success.
This professor will be objectively the best out of all of the professors in the BSC 1005 course. His lectures are engaging and interactive. He teaches through story telling and his prior experience in the field. I highly recommend attending all of his lectures, he makes it very easy to pass his unit in the course!
He genuinely wants you to learn and is really creative with his lectures. Super easy class if you just go to the lectures and listen.
I went into this class knowing nothing just that I needed a lab to graduate as a bio major and oh boy... This class is probably the hardest and easiest class I have taken at FSU. The content is super heavy and can make you feel like you're drowning in it. The lecture exams are easy compared to the lab practicals. The curve is massive.
The best out of the three other professors in this course. I was genuinely interested the entire time and I still tell people about the things taught during his section. He was funny, caring, and genuinely a great professor. I would recommend taking this course just for him.
Amazing professor, and super funny too. The lecture was fun but sometimes it was too much lol. Lab portions of the exams were harder than lectures but if you study it can be doable. Flashcards are a lifesaver. His TAs are also super awesome, and they really will help you if you try your best. Niall was my TA and he was the best !!! Great class
Had him for baby bio during covid and loved it!!! Made my dreams of studying dinos as a kid come true for a while. You do use a textbook, but he made it and it is short and easy to read. I actually still have it because i
this class took YEARS off my life but dr.erickson made it bearable. this class is very difficult but there is such a big curve and as long as you put in some sort of effort, you will pass. dr.erickson is such a sweet guy and he wants his student to do well. he is very understanding and super helpful during office hours. even the TA's were great
Super cool dude. Made lectures very interesting, and added humor. I actually enjoyed going to this class during his unit.
This professor was 1/4 instructors for the general biology class. He was definitely the most interesting and his lectures were really cool. You can tell he really likes teaching people about dinosaurs. I took this class at 9:20am and this is the only unit I woke up to go to every lecture.
He is very passionate and makes his unit of the biology course so fun to learn about, take notes on his lectures and you'll pass.
You can tell that Dr. Erickson actually enjoys what he is doing. He is so funny and all of his lectures were so entertaining. He is also incredibly accomplished. I didn't think I was interested in paleontology/paleobiology before this class but he has changed that for me.
Dr. Erickson is engaging and is incredibly enthusiastic about what he teaches. He is the fourth professor in BSC 1005 and he makes it incredibly easy to pass and it is almost you will learn something and have a laugh while you're at it. As long as you go to class you will get most of the answers for the unit exam.
Dr. Erickson teaches the fourth unit of BSC 1005, and his unit was the best and most interesting. His lectures are amazing and he tries to get students engaged and makes his lectures fun. He basically gives out the answers for what will be on the exam so if you pay attention you will do very well.
Dr. Erickson's unit of BSC1005 about dinosaurs was engaging and unique. You can tell that he is passionate about what he teaches and is well respected on campus. The lectures were funny and informative- he also emphasizes what is important for the exam which is super helpful in a content heavy course.
Dr.Erickson was a PHENOMENAL professor. I wish I was going down an academic path with more of his courses! His content was engaging and he made the 9am class feel like a treat! He was very interactive and even allowed students to look at particular fossils up close if they wanted to. Attend lectures: you will pass and have a great time, GUARANTEED!
Dr. Erickson is an amazing professor!! His lectures are so engaging and he makes it fun to come to class. He is very passionate and you can tell he loves what he is talking about. There is no homework and the test is extremely straightforward. He basically tells you the questions of the test in class. I wish I could have him for the entire semester
He is the most amazing professor! His lectures are so engaging, informative, and fun. I never skipped a class. I think I might be in Love!
Dr. Erickson is amazing!! He is hilarious and made me excited to go to class everyday and learn all about Dinosaurs. He is very passionate about Paleontology and did a lot of in class demos to keep everyone intrigued. From playing music at the beginning of every class, getting student volunteers, and bringing in real fossils, his class was great.
Passionate
Some people are being dramatic. This class is hard and requires a bit more work than a typical bio elective, but it is not a killer. You have to memorize alot. Study it as you're being taught and you will be ahead of the curve. Don't try to cram it all the night before, there's too much material. Dr. Erickson is one of the best. Everyone agrees.
Dr. Erickson is one of the best professors I've had here at FSU and has the best stories to tell. He cares about his students doing well. As long as you put in the effort, you will pass his class. Sometimes he puts extra credit questions on his exams. Overall, Dr. Erickson is a great guy and I would highly recommend taking any class taught by him.
I loved his unit in BSC1005. His lectures were always very engaging and I always learned something new. He told us during review and during lectures what to expect on the test, making it really easy to study.
If you want the true FSU experience, you have to take Baby Bio with Dr. Erickson. He is a legend and that title is well earned. I was genuinely excited to go learn about dinosaurs every single morning with his hilarious life stories, rock music blaring every morning before class starts, and interactive (to say the least...) lessons! WE LOVE DR. E!
Love this guy, if I could have him for every science class I would. Great teacher with clear instructions, highly recommend.
Only taught one unit of baby bio, but it was honestly the most invested I was in a class all semester. Great professor and really engaging lectures.
Professor Erickson's BCS1005 class was a blast! His engaging lectures and passion for paleontology made learning about dinosaurs genuinely fun. Using unstuck AI along with the textbook helped me ace the exams.
Dr. Erickson is a nice, funny person but the amount of information on each exam is INSANE. Each exam consists of 5 lectures and 5 labs that are each about 70 slides each. The lab section is WAY harder. However, the course is heavily curved. The lowest grade is set as a C- and it only goes up from there. I don't have time for myself anymore though.
I recommend taking this class if you like, depression, sadness, and no sleep. Absolutely the worst experience of my life. The only reason Dr Erickson is rated a 3 is because he is friendly. Other than that he hazes you with information and it suffocates you. Hardest exams I've ever had at FSU and it is literally an ELECTIVE. Curve is good I guess.
This is the best class I've ever taken at FSU, HOWEVER if you are looking to get an A it is difficult. Exams are an ungodly amount of information, and he doesn't expect you to know all of it but you will be tested on all of it. The class is set up so it is virtually impossible to fail - the lowest final grade gets a C-, and the highest an A+.
This class was brutal. Exams are long with T/F matching, and written questions no multiple choice. i memorized every slide. Labs are heavy TAs don't let you take pictures (I sneaked my iPad) Dr. E is hard to reach and the workload is shit. Be prepared to grind nonstop. the curve is nice studied for a week for an 80 which is curved to an A.
Very fun and engaging professor, and by far the best out of the 4 Baby Bio lecturers. He HEAVILY hints at test questions and answers during class, and tries to make class as fun as possible.
