hes like a robot, but is a nice guy, teaches well, with power point every day.
Many people found his tests difficult, but I thought they were extremely easy. His lectures were a little dry, though.
eww dont take his class... i cut so many times b/c it was useless showing up.. slept the whole time... i learned in his class that no matter how much a am attentive and read the book.. it wont help me
I took his online US History course, but dropped it. When I tried asking him a spacific question, he would not answer it. And it was a question which he really should have answered. In other areas he was too specific.
HARD CLASS
he is a good teacher but he could be more understanding some times .But HE TEACHES very good .
Powerpoint EVERY day, very repetative. Tests were extremly hard. Very specific. I attended class every day and still failed or almost failed every test. Class was useless and no matter how much of the book was read, nothing helped with those god awful tests! Don't do it!
MOST OF THE QUESTIONS FROM HIS TESTS ARE FROM THE BOOK, NOT THE LECTURES
Dr. Gordon was not very helpful, and quite arrogant. He always remenided us CLC students that we did not have a masters from Northwestern and he did.
This is the online class for History 222. DO NOT EXPECT TO SKATE THROUGH THIS CLASS. The exams are difficult EVEN if you take the Book's Online T/F and M/C tests to prepare for the exam. KNOW THE DATES of important events. READ EVERY SENTENCE in the book. I have a high B average. BE PREPARED!!!!!!!!
I thought Greg Gordon was great. If you want to major in History I would recommend him. I took him for two classes and did very well in both. He is just very educated and expects his students to be as well. I like professors who know their subjects and he does.
I thought Mr. Gordon's class was very easy, and I hate history and normally suck at it. I flagged a similar at class at SIU two years ago. If you follow his rules, take good notes, follow the study guides and read the book carefully, you will get at least a C or better. I got an A and I couldn't believe it. He's robotic, but a nice guy.

thought that his knowledge was amazing. He knew alot about his topic. his tests are really hard if you don't prepare way ahead of time. Read the BOOK and the chapters, if you don't you'll do pretty bad. Overall I thought he was cool, got pretty boring at the end though...way too much power point and lecture.
I don't know how he is in the actual classroom but all I have to say is DO NOT TAKE THE ONLINE COURSE! The computer tests are rediculous, you can study day and night for weeks and not get a good grade just because half the time you are not even sure what the question is asking and being an internet course you can't just ask him to reword.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE ONLINE! Mr. Gordon is not a good online teacher. I read the book and studied his test guide and still struggled. I asked questions about the course and was never answered. Mr. Gordon is very knowledgable about his subject matter but does not know how to teach.
Very hard teacher
Took his online class. I like history, but if you are not serious about the class THEN DON'T TAKE HIS. He wants only serious students and has a grading system that will weed out the C's/D's students.
Do not take the online class. Whenever I had a question about my paper or about the text he would refer me back to the syllabus. He nevergave me a stright answer. It felt like he thought the online students were lazy and less important the the ones that go to the class room. The outlines for the tests hardly covered what was on the test.
Annoyingly conceited. He made us use the textbook he wrote for all of our papers. Tended to go off on random tangents at times, and everything ended up about slavery eventually. Tests are near impossible. You can study for weeks and get a 50% because of odd wording or items not covered in class. Not reccommended.
pretty straight forward class. do the work and get the points. kinda boring but thats history. not strict with attendance at all. No outside homework except for two papers.
I had to drop the class before i lose or waste my money! The online class is nearly imposible. This teacher sets so many rules it's unbelievable to follow. Not only you will lose one grade letter if you write the paper in any other person, but third person. Absolutely crazy. It's only history! It's not new science, man! Do not take it
I had Prof Gordon a few years ago and thought he was a great teacher. I learned a lot about American History and he seemed genuinely interested in his topic. I would def take a class with him
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS. He put no effort into the class. He rarely answered questions outright, always referring to his syllabus. He never told us that the cyber lecture was fixed; his tests were very difficult even if you read. I had issues submitting my test and he threatened to take points off instead of helping me. I was happy with a B.
Gregory Gordon's online class is EXTREMELY difficult. One can study every detail for weeks and still fail the tests because of wording and specific questions. He is a very hard grader and does not offer much help. His suggestions are mostly useless. Unless you are willing to do nothing but study history, do not take his class online.
He is obviously an incredibly intelligent man. He is nice and polite, but his class is hard.He grades based on 4 exams and 2 essays, all of which are really challenging. Although I like him as a person, I wouldn't take his class again. Unless your planning on making this class the only one you take - find another teacher.
His tests are vague or have dumb questions like: what is 2+2? Seriously. I just had a question like that on the last test. He's not HELPFUL AT ALL. I found mistakes in the study guide, and if you switch from active to passive voice on your papers, he will reduce your score by 1 letter grade (A to B). DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
I took prof gordon for the american survey II and african american history...he is a top notch professor. He teaches to challenge you but is willing to help if you ask for it. Just fyi-"hard" and "boring"are criticisms made by intellectual midgets.
I took two of his U.S. history classes (one on campus and other other online) and I thought he did a great job in both. I like the idea of 4 exams and two papers (and extra credit), so if you screw up on one, you can still pull yourself up. Very professional in his dress (and not bad looking for an older guy). Approachable and nice class topics.
Very difficult class. Talks at you for the entire class. Book was long and boring. Test questions seemed to come from nowhere. I did very well on the papers. Managed to get a B even though I failed almost all the tests. I have no idea where the grade came from. Do not take.
Mr Gordon knows history & is a nice guy. But when the highest score on the final is 76, something is wrong. There are 4 tests, 25 multiple choice Q's worth 2 pts each. The tests are taken on Blackboard. This may sound fairly easy, but it's not. The Q's are mostly based on the textbook, not lecture. Avoid him unless you REALLY love reading...
I thought he was great. I am a bit of a History dork so maybe that helped me out. I will take more of his classes.
Don't take his class
I took his online course and felt his teaching style was cold, rude and distant. He was rude to students who asked questions, rude in his blackboard posts, and gave very little direction. The one good thing is that he offers two types of test for each test. Either a multiple choice test at the college or a short essay question/answer test at home.
his lectures are way interesting if you are into history, he is a very smart guy (he wrote a book, its one of the books you use). i just wish the test had some lecture questions on it because they were so good, but its all book based, which means get ready to read
Professor Gordon is very professional and knows the subject like the back of his hand. He does not use lectures notes when lecture, but spits out facts and history stories like a walking encycolpedia. He is somewhat roboting with a great sense of humor, but he is also very helpful when you get stuck. I will take his class again next year.
Unreasonable, unclear and excessive expectations with little lenience or helpfullness.
Professional, no-nonsense kind of teacher. His class is entirely paperless. He gives the option of either multiple choice or essay on tests, of which there are four. A plus. He isn't very helpful but he is very lenient. His lectures can be incredibly interesting but tests take questions from the book. Get study guide, skim book and you will pass.
Nice&intelligent, but can't make the cross over as a professor.Class lectures consist of stories that don't pertain to tests.Test include the randomest detailed and analytical questions. Attend class, read, study it doesn't prepare you.Had to curve every test, most of the class got an F,said "our class" was the only class that has ever done so poorly.
His class lectures are enjoying, but almost irrelevant to tests. Fair when it comes to be a teacher, but his tests would've been impossible if it weren't for the study guides. Read the book, come to class and you should do fine. Papers were fairly simple and the easiest on overall grading. I recommend him if you are independent on reading a lot.
I personally disliked this teacher very much. He covers 2 MAYBE 3 slides a class, and doesn't cover half the material that is on the test. If you don't mind teaching yourself this might be an okay class for you. I am an education major and I don't think he should be a teacher. If you have his class I hope you like blackboard. Good luck...
I thought this class was not that different from other classes I have taken so far. As long as you take good notes and read the textbook, I did not think it was rocket science. I would take his class again.
He sees 9/10 as the highest grade possible on tests, so getting an A is really hard if not impossible. Does not explain what he wants clearly, but gets frustrated with you if you do not meet his expectations. Very frustrating class, do not recommend.
he is a strict teacher expects you to turn i all assignments and time to full ability but if you talk to him after class he can clarify any questions you have my suggestion would be to talk to him everyday the better relationship you have with him the better you will do in the class
Very hard teacher. Only gets through like 2 slides per day and you are expected to learn all of the material by reading the book. No homework grades. Your grade is solely based upon tests and papers. If you even get 2 questions wrong on the test then you already get a B. Not fair teacher, too hard.
Very knowledgeable professor. However, this causes a problem. He tends to go on tangents during class time and does not cover all of the material. Grade is based off of tests and papers-no homework. He's a nice man, but does an extremely poor job preparing his students for the exams. Would not recommend.
I recommend Gordon. There is no homework. All of the class lectures are on BB, and he shows an occasional video. There are 2 essay papers, one is worth 10 the other 15. There is also 4 exams worth 50 pts each, he offers a 2 pt EC question on the final exam. If you enjoy history, go to class, study and pay attention, you will have success.
This course starts where HST 221 ends. I took Gordon for both classes, I worked hard and studied. There is no homework, just 2 essay papers and 4 exams. All the lectures are on Blackboard. Prof. Gordon knows history and is passionate about his class. If you are willing to go to class, study, and work hard, you will achieve success.
This man is a baller he was always suit up, and knows his gameplay. He pretty much keeps you in the game. If you are trying to have a teammate pick him for your team.
horrible teacher, doesn't cover any material for tests, lectures aren't good
Just take his class. Easy papers and was an easy grader. I found his class to be very interesting. He expects you to read the textbook for tests, and during class he just lectures. But he does get into really good lectures.
The class is interesting and Mr. Gordon is very knowledgeable. YES you have to read the book, but he makes that very clear on the first day of class. There are 4 tests, 2 papers and a group project, and expectations are made clear in the syllabus.
I like him as a person and is really easy to talk too. His lectures fascinate me because he knows everything from the beginning of time to now. But, you have to be prepared to take notes and this will be 6-7 pages. If you like history, he is like a god to you then. If you there to knock a credit out, you might be bored.
Gregory Gordon is the most formal professor I have ever had. He is overly knowledgeable about history, lectures the entire class without skipping a beat. He is extremely prepared each day from start to finish. The tests are relatively short but are over a span of multiple chapters. I suggest you take heavy notes and look over the textbook.
Took this class on-line and if you keep up with the work load, not too bad, but don't expect any help from the Prof, so you best be a self learner. He is terrible at responding to emails. I would send emails with multiple questions and he would only respond to 1 of the questions. Good news is book was an e-book, and free.
When it comes to assignments you'd better make sure that you are aware of when the assignment is due because there is no reminder what so ever. There is never any mention of any assignment even when he "assigns it." There is a difference between helping us become responsible adults and leaving us completely in the dark.
Mr. Gordon was incredibly knowledgeable about history, but doesn't exactly know how to relay his intelligence to a classroom setting. Gives no homework, no study guides, and doesn't remind students about upcoming assignments. Papers and tests are both relatively easy, but be prepared to teach yourself most of the chapters in the course.
Professor Gordon is highly intelligent and very knowledgable about anything history related. He assigns almost no assignments and grades fairly easy. The only negative aspect of this class/professor is that his tests are usually based on the ebook and not his lectures. I don't usually enjoy history but he made it a lot more intriguing.
Professor Gordon is a really nice professor and has a lot of knowledge about history. During the class, all he does is lecture the entire time. There is a multiple choice or essay choice for every test. It is necessary to read the online textbook to help prepare for tests. He never assigns homework, only two papers and a group project at end.
The class is broken up into four exams (15 questions each), two term papers (10 points each), and a group project (20 points). Each point is a percentage of your final grade, which makes every assignment very high risk. Tests were ENTIRELY from the book, so there's no point in ever attending one of his lectures. Papers have silly rules to them.
This class was only 8 weeks long to start. He is very clear on what information needs to be presented. He doesn't want any personal opinions put into any of your writing. I found it easy to do the discussion board posts, but the reply posts were difficult because there was nothing to actually discuss. Do not expect to get a 100 on anything/
The exams are simple and based off free eBook he requires, just use the chapter review questions and you'll do decently. I think the papers are simple (only two pages of actual writing) as I got full points on all of them, I think it's just that people suck at following directions and writing them. Lectures can be dry. Never docked me for attendanc
He spent the first month talking about Neanderthals (I'm in U.S History 1875-present.) His tests are 15 questions the class is only out of 100 points. We had a test on the cold war when he didn't even teach us about it. His tests have huge words that are hard to understand. I almost fall asleep during his lectures every day. Don't take his class!!!
Barely receive feedback unless you make an appointment to go into his office. This was an online class thus a student never knew how to improve. Late in posting grade. Hard to communicate via email. Teacher does NOT participate in the discussion. More than half of the students dropped. Received main exam grade at the end of the year, midterm final
The opportunity to gain extra credit was great and simple. The textbook was an online free-resource, also a huge plus. The professor was clear, responded to inquiries promptly, and was very helpful. I would recommend taking this course accelerated online or through the summer as most of the studying could be done at your own pace.
I have no idea why Professor Gordon has some negative reviews . I took him over this summer online. First of all, book is completely free , he posted it on blackboard. His syllabus is clear, with all due dates and expectation. If you read a book, won't be a problem. Gives extra credit if you participate in discussion (up to 10% of final grade).
Professor Gordon is a nice guy , I took his online summer course. He is very good with responding when you have any concerns. If you take his course be ready to read tons of information. There's assigned chapters that require time so take his course alone. There's 4 exams that have to be done on campus, 2 papers, and extra credit discussions.
The whole class period is a lecture about things that are not on the test. The tests are only out of 15 questions so it's extremely easy to do bad, and considering there's only 4 tests, 2 papers, and one group project, it's even easier. Would not recommend. His syllabus says "My job is to serve as a resource, not a traditional classroom experience.
The only way to fail this class is to be lazy and not study for tests. If you read the book and do the questions at the end there's really no way to fail this class. Make sure you study for his quizzes bc some quiz questions are direct questions from the review at the back of the book. The lectures are boring but overall he's a good fair teacher.
Threatened all of us in the beginning of semester giving us only two days to withdraw from class with a W otherwise we fail. Really boring Lectures. Had issues with submitting papers and even though i had proof from other teachers still docked me a letter grade. No homework at all, tests are worth 15 points, group project 20% of grade
This class was the worst class I have ever taken. Lectures had no relevance to the tests and chapters that the test were on in the book helped with like 5/15 questions on the test. He only grades a few things so its very easy to get a low grade in this class. So glad Im done with this class
His class is very straight forward Read the book, go over review questions and take the test. There are 2 short papers to write and 4 exams that are only 20 questions each to take at CLC. The only way to fail this class is by being lazy and not reading the chapters. But if you read the chapters it's an easy A
Professor Gordon comes off initially as very formal, but he is actually a very kind person and great to work with! His classes are pretty much all lecture, but he makes it interesting in my opinion. All you need to do to ace the tests is do the study guides in the free textbook! Only downside for me was the group project.
This is his class in a nutshell; 1)Read, take good notes, use the reinforcement questions and critical thinking at end of chapter to study. 2)Review a ppt. that has no narration with a bunch of incomplete sentences and new terms not in the reading. 2) Take exam that is a bunch of "gotcha" questions, which barely touch any of the material we read..
I was initially intimidated due to this professor's course syllabus! It was the longest syllabus I've ever seen, like 9 pages, and most of it described the various ways that he would flunk you for some transgression or other. But once the course got going it was fine and I realized the professor was not out to get me. Do the work and you'll pass.
I dropped this class a semester ago because the syllabus scared me. This class is very doable. All discussion boards are extra credit, the papers are extra credit. You have a few weeks to read 4 chapters, and an option to take multiple choice or essay exams. Read and pay close attention to the review questions at the end of the chapters. Easy A.
Took a U.S History class with him last spring and enjoyed it. Yes, I will agree the way he grades papers can be a little intimidating but his class is pretty straightforward and the way that he gives lectures are easy to take in as long as you take good notes. Would recommend.
Very chill teacher, clearly cares about students, and you can tell he loves teaching. As long as you show up and do your work and pay attention to lectures you'll do fine.
I took this as an online class, the professor was very silent during the semester. The tests were easy as long as you read the material, and there were many opportunities for extra credit. The syllabus is a novel, and is written in a way that is hard to understand. The way the professor graded final grades was confusing and unnecessary.
Class sessions can feel long at times because of the lectures but Professor Gordon knows what he's talking about and is consistent and a fair grader.
The course was easy and simple. The bulk of the grade was made up of 4 twenty question exams.
Honestly, it was a very easy class. No homework only quizzes. He does take a while to grade and answer to emails, but I didn't have many questions. To put it very simple, just go through lectures take quiz and repeat. There are two options of the quiz, multiple choice or short answer quiz.
