Talks, talks, talks about irrevelant info, unhelpful, just plain old crazy!

A "got cha" type of guy..loves to trick you into choosing the wrong answer.
He seems well, but his teaching technique is confusing. Some test questions were not discussed in lecture or in the book.
He talks alot about things you "don't need to worry about". gets very confusing. Test questions are over items never gone over and not relevent to the section. We spent 4 weeks on what he called "basic chemistry" I was taking an anatomy class! The chemistry portion of the class was only 2 chapters long. All other classes were much farther along.
He is very genuine and nice. He is the second biology teacher I've had and he really has taught me so much. Trys to make you understand and incorperates the class in the discussion. Lecture is mainly talking, but easy to understand. As long as you take good notes and read the chapters in the book you will pass the class.
Dr. Hartman was stimulating, thought provoking, and throghouly enjoyable. I found it refreshing to be asked to think and perform above a high school level. Welcome to college!
Started out with 26 people ended up with 6. He talks in circles but he drops quizzes and gives a curve on test(I think that is what saved me, because I studied very hard and topped only 70's on all test)You have to take notes and just elaborate at home and you should be fine. You can "over-study" unfortunately, but the curves help. Nice person.
Dr. Hartman is a great teacher his test are hard but he makes you think outside the box. Be prepared to dance with the devil but you will be glad you did. thank you Dr. Hartman
This teacher talks in riddles and circles, very confusing u must read your book! His notes is extremely not clear. I advise anyone who has not had a A/P background do not take him..
I loved Dr Hartman's lectures. His test were very hard and thought provoking, but this is why I loved this class. REad,read, read, read, read. ASK HOW,WHAT,WHERE,WHEN,WHY if you can't answer read again
WARNING:DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!Class average for our first test was in 50s, and class average for second test was 40's and he does nothing about it. I did a five page lab report on enzymes and made a C. I am a straight A student,Junior, and have never taken a class so absurd in my life!! He cusses constantly and has no organization whatsoever!
Dr. hartman is a wonderful teacher! I am taking his class right now, he wants everyone to just understand it. He will help you if you ask, so ask! His tests are hard but is has a few silly questions that lighten the mood. If you are wanting to be spoon fed like in highschool don't take this class. If you want to truly learn something, take it!
if you like to try hard and get bad grades take this class
I would not advise anyone to take him! he is a VERY VERY nice guy and during his lectures he explains everything pretty well. You will more than likely understand everything in class but once you get that test you will be like WTF! b/c hardly anything on the test is what he talked about and the info that is on the test that he talked about is worde
Warning: Do not take this teacher. He is a very nice man, but his teaching style is very bad. He never uses powerpoints or rarely the textbook.talks the whole time, never likes to answer questions-basically tells you to read and information is in the text- his test are extremely tricky & hard-that is his teaching technique-
He's funny. He get his notes from pictures. He is not very clear about what is on the test for lecture. His lab is very easy if you study the material. All in all he expect you to learn with or with him. If study everyday, you could make an A. Also you need the book
He is really funny. He is not as hard as everyone says he is. He says his test come from his lectures and they do. The questions aren't tricky if you know what your talking about. Good teacher if your on a college level.
His lectures are interesting, and he explains clearly, however his grades consist of quizzes and tests only, and the tests seem fit for a doctor. Not to mention, he is tricky!!! You have to pay close attention to the question. I was a straight A student in high school, i failed...
He is nice. The whole class failed out first exam.
Sometimes he can be nice. But i asked for help and all he told me was not to stress out? hello this is important! I study my butt off for every test and still barely pass, and you never know WHAT he is going to ask. Some people do really well in there, but its frustrating when you study non stop and still fail. I wouldn't reccomend him.
I took him three semesters ago and yes he is very difficult, but if you are applying for the nursing program get over it b/c the test in there are the exact same...if anything his class better prepared me for what was to come...you can't just memorize you must grasp an understanding of what is being taught it will come back if healthcare bound
Extremely hard! He likes to put trick questions on tests (read carefully)! Lab is all memorization, and lots of it! I made an A in the class, so it is possible to do well, but you really need to go to EVERY class and lab, take good notes, and read the book. I would take him again, but if science ain't your thing... I really wouln't recommend...
This teacher is the worst biology teacher at gordon. All he does is talk and give corrupted notes that are not even related to the test. I promise you if you take his class your GPA will decrease
This is by far the worst Biology teacher in history. He doesn't post his notes online, he gives u no time to copy them down. And his test are HARD! lots of trick questions and he gives no extra credit. I guess anyone can be a biology teacher now a days
Hard but good.
I just posted the last comment... I didn't mean to give him a low quality score... He is VERY nice, just HARD. He wants you to know exactly what everything is as well as what it's not. He is VERY hard, but you can pass his class. This class isn't for lazy students. At all!!
He is a nice teacher and will gladly help you, he has a sense of humor, his test are hard but not unpassable he wants you to know the material, overall a decent teacher
Great prof. Provides lots of help if you ask. If you want a college level course, he is for you, if you want a high school level course, he is not.
This is not the easiest class I have ever taken, but I learned a lot!
I registered for Dr. Hartman's class before I looked at this website. After reading the comments, I wondered if I could get through the class. I did get through the class with a B. He expects you to know concepts thoroughly. You must come to class, stay longer in labs, & talk to him. In his class I learned more fr. him than past Biology prof.
took him fall 09. he is a great teacher if you listen and take organized notes. he is funny and very nice. tests are HARD!! study and stay in lab longer than everybody else. i learned ALOT of neat stuf
He uses profanity throughout the class section. Does not help if needed. Also, he only does powerpoint and does not explain the material.
Nice guy but he likes to make you think outside of the box on tests. He makes them WAY more difficult than they need to be. Sometimes willing to help, not often. Extremely monotoned!!!!
VERY TRICKY on tests!! Goes through notes way too fast. Most of his teaching is from powerpoints. Lab is basic memorization and it seemed easier than lecture.
He is one of those teachers that you can appreciate AFTER you're out of the class, but you absolutely hate while you're in it. The test questions are pretty tricky. Make sure you read each and every word. But if you know what he is ACTUALLY asking then the tests are a breeze. He has a high fail rate though.
TAKE REALLY GOOD NOTES! HIS TESTS ARE PRETTY MUCH STRAIGHT FROM THE POWERPOINT, BUT HIS TEST QUESTIONS ARE TRICKY. I KNOW THAT I SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED A "D" BUT HE WAS KIND ENUFF TO GIVE ME A "C". HE CURSES ALOT BUT WHO DOESN'T. I PROBABLY WOULDN'T RECOMMEND HIM.
His test are very tricky. Take good notes and study hard!! You might just get a D!!
he is a great person but he really shouldnt be a teacher he doent know how to teach PLEASE TAKE SOME ONE ELSE OR WAIT TIL NEXT TIME
He is very hard!!!
Tough but good. You have to ask if you need help. If you like extra credit, look elsewhere.
Very hard professor, he is a good person but on a academic level very difficult.
Dr. Hartman is a good professor. Yes, his tests are difficult, but he curves the grades appropriately. If you're going into nursing his tests are a good prep for the program and the NCLEX. If you don't want to work for a good grade, then don't bother - this is not a class for lazy people. Show up to class, even without role he knows who is there.
Dr. Hartman is extremely difficult. He makes you think. He wants you to think about things from every perspective possible. He's a great person & there to help anyone out. He wants to see all of his students exceed. But you have to study & commit to it. You have 4 test & he drops the lowest grade. No extra credit. No homework. Just read Chapters.
I took class in summer 2012. Test are very difficult but if your major is in the medical field this class is an awesome prep.Study class notes and figures examples from book you should do OK.
He is truly one of those teachers that would rather inspire you to figure it out for yourself (especially if the answer is right under your nose). Just read the text (before class is most helpful) and pay attention in lecture and you'll be fine. Still though I'd only recommend this teacher to someone who doesn't mind working for their grade.
Dr. Hartman is a great professor if you are willing to put a lot of effort. His tests are very difficult. But if you study his powerpoints and take a lot of note, you should be fine. I would definitely recommend him.
Hartman is a very nice man! He does that self-help method which I like. It makes you learn the material better. Overall This class was easy. Just read the book and take notes from it, and remember what he talked about in class, so you will know what to look for in the book!
Easiest class I have ever taken.
Dr. Hartman was a very interesting professor that makes you think in different ways. His tests are basically straight from the notes. Yes, you will have to study but this is college. I would take him again. The book is helpful if you dont understand how he explains things too. Also read directions and questions word for word!!!
VERY EASY, i hardly ever went to class and passed with no problem. He is very helpfull too.
Dr. Hartman is a very challenging professor. If you are not good with listening and writing notes at the same time.. I do not recommend him. He doesn't provide anything to study with other than what you write down in class, so take very good notes. He allows recording him. Study everyday! Lab exams are terrible, so don't miss any labs.
Hartman tries to simplify things for us laymen. He doesn't tell you specifics to read in the book but in lecture he goes over tables and figures in the book and says whether you need to know or not. Lab practicals will make you want to vomit. Make sure you listen and take notes. Hartman says, "Study your notes, read the book" BE A GOOD NOTE TAKER!
If you pay attention, a fairly east class, but you have to work. Not for slackers.
He has tons of knowledge but is bad at explaining on a student level. I found the book to be more informative than his lectures. You really have to study everything for his tests.
Asked difficult questions on exams. You have to study a lot for this course, but then, this is college. When I asked him for help, he was great, and worked with me until I got it. Don't be scared to ask questions.
I took him last semester for Bio 1107K and he is very tough. His lectures are not always clear and there are no lecture notes that he gives you access to. He jumps around on topics and his tests have tricky questions. You have to do a lot of graphs for labs and he's very picky on how they should look. He does make think outside of the box though.
Expects you to think, not just regurgitate.
I didn't understand his lectures until I compared the notes with the book after class. You must read the book and you must go to class. His tests are extremely difficult and he will use the examples he went over in class. Make sure you know how to spell everything correctly. He great at making information stick with you and hammering meanings.
He is very intelligent but hard to understand his lectures. He just can't bring it down to laymen level. You do have to work hard for your grade in his class, it seems like he enjoys watching the struggle.
Clear and to the point. Lab exams are kind of a bear. Take good notes and pay attention and you'll do fine.
Won't bring lectures to Layman's terms. Very smart guy, terrible teacher. Expects you to know everything he knows.
Expects you to read and work for your grade. I had to pay a lot more attention in his class than I ever did in high school biology. If you read carefully, his tests make perfect sense. Picky about lab reports.
Hartman cannot bring the content to a level were students can understand. The grading on the lab reports are not consistent and you will not know your grade until the week before the final exam.
Take good notes! His tests are in a word, "challenging". A lot of students whined a lot about him, but when you are done, you know your stuff.
Dr. Hartman is a TOUGH professor. Take this class ONLY if you are willing to put in the work and study A LOT. His exams are difficult , but it's not impossible to end up with an A. He is very picky when it comes to lab reports, so BEWARE. He teaches mainly from the textbook, and he has an odd sense of humor.
AVOID! Dr. Hartman is a nice man and very funny, but his tests and lab reports are unbelievably hard. About the time, you think you're good and studied up, you take the test, and realize that there is nothing that could prepare you for that test. The lab reports are hard, but doable. I spent hours working on them. Don't study your notes--read!
DANGER AHEAD!!! Dr. Hartman lectures in one arena, steers you to study in another arena, and tests you out in the woods. He has a corny sense of humor that only he can appreciate and his lectures can be somewhat difficult to follow. I wish he would alter his teaching style so that his birds can fly, instead of flopping on the floor of the nest.
I took Hartman for A&P this semester. He does not do a good job of bringing the content to a level where the student can understand it, and the tests are extremely difficult.
Dr. Hartman is a great person, but his exams are hard. All of the exams are multiple choice and the lowest grade gets dropped. There is a total of 4 exams and a final. His lectures are from the book. He uses the pictures in the book to teach during lecture. I wouldn't recommend a non major to take this course. Worst decision I have ever made.
One of my favorite profs at Gordon. You have to work for it. If you pay attention in class and study your notes, you'll do fine.
Worst professor. Only grades are test, which are nearly impossible. You can study all month and still fail them. Will never take again.
Dr Hartman, Was very difficult. His lectured like you were supposed to know what he was talking about. His tests were purposely confusing, offered little to no help with content for lecture. Gave only 4 tests the entire semester. Lab was not difficult but lecture was incredibly difficult. He was a very good lab teacher and helpful in lab.
He is the worst professor ever! He is a smart man, but does not do good teaching it. His test have questions that you have no idea where they came from. His lab practicals are one of the hardest things you'll ever do. STAY AWAY. IM SERIOUS. You have to be very dedicated and motivated to end with a good grade. He doesn't help you at all either.
Hartman's class is very difficult and you must study after every lecture to fully understand the concepts he teaches. If you plan on memorizing the information you will fail, you have to learn the concepts inside and out in order to pass his tests. His lab exams are hands-on with 50 blanks. If you study very hard you will pass.
Hes definitely not the easiest professor, but he does make you learn. If you record the lectures and listen to them later, youll do much better than if you try to just take notes. Read everything. Tests can be tricky, so slow down and read carefully. Overall great guy, easy going, funny, and truly helpful.
I took A&P and Micro at the same time and if someone needed help i could break everything down for them to understand. But for Hartmans class taking notes and studying my notes got me no where at all. It was as if i read and took notes for no reason at all. Failed my first test and it was the worst.
We had only 3 exams all semester and lab grades. There was no chance for extra credit and there were no specifics on what to study for. I completely understand that we do not need our hands held but his tests were really difficult and you covered about 4 chapters at a time (over 100 pages) with no study guide or review. He could care less.
HARDEST CLASS EVER. Hartman is a pretty nice guy overall. However, only 4 lecture exams and thats the only grades he puts in. No homework, no extra assignments, no pop quizzes, no quizzes at all. Very lecture heavy. You must come to class to get notes. His test are very hard and you must be a study freak to pass his class. good luck!!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!! He is does not care at all, me and few other students asked him what can we do to get better at his class cause we were struggling all he said was "study your notes" and what was in our notes wasn't even on the test. You have no other grades to fall on on 2 lab exams and 4 lecture exam. I would not take him at all !!!!!!
Dr. Hartman is a great person, however, hes not that great of a professor. He expects you to learn yourself then he just goes over certain things in lecture. His test are ridiculously hard no matter how much you study. Nobody in the class was passing when I dropped the class. The labs are easier, but that doesnt matter if you cant pass the exams
Take his class if you live and breathe biology. but even if you live and breathe biology he'll probably make you hate it by the end of semester. He's very prideful, and if you ask a question he'll humiliate you. he makes his tests confusing on purpose like he wants you to fail. no cushion grades, pop quizzes, or anything to help. don't take him.
Although this is an intro to Bio he expects you to have taken and REMEMBERED everything from high school bio and chem I recommend saving your notes from those classes and refreshing your memory Although class isnt mandatory DO NOT SKIP The only thing youre graded on is tests and labs Hes a VERY TOUGH GRADER you will never know what he wants
