Tough teacher, tricky on tests, somewhat of a fair grader
Made students to learn material on their own, fair grader, online quizes helpful
Not a good professor at all.
Weird clothing, not a bad prof, picky on tests
inconsistent grading, tricky tests
Tricky tests, unclear teaching
Professor hot pants will expect you to teach yourself at least half the material
joke, fair but tough, study and you will be ok
If you learn it wou will get an A, no problem.
picky and tricky on tests, bizarre outfits, juvenile teaching style
Teach yourself. Ignore what he says. I skipped half the classes, passed 86%.
If you can't pass this man's calss, you can't be taught. He is too nice sometimes. Best dresser of '02
Is a good lab prof, but is kinda geeky and you gotta love the clothes! Anyhow, he knows his stuff, and will let you in on it if you ask nicely.
odd man, obviously knows the stuff. very tough grader, picky. avoid him for lab.
I didn't have a problem with this guy, but a lot of other people seemed to. He's a little odd, but that helps keep class interesting.
Good professor if your willing to put in the effort to learn the stuff. Will do anything to make sure students learn the material. Definitly not a easy course not matter who the prof though. But at least this guy speaks english.

Difficult subject matter, good at explaining it.
Had him for lab. I think the H in Hassold may be silent. Makes things very confusing and has an impossible grader for lab reports! The lab common was also impossible. AVOID if possible!
Isn't a great teacher... but grades nicely. Online quizzes suck... Check the pink pants.
If you can't learn from him, you can't be taught. I can't say he is really easy, but the man will go the extra mile to make sure you understand. He is a fair grader and is test are bearable.
Not the greatest teacher, and the class isn't easy. You can tell he's a physics teacher, by that he's odd, but seems to be a nice guy. Study like crazy and go see him for help.
Not easy, must do the homework. Good guy, comes off as an oddball. Knows his stuff, works willingly with you one on one. Take advantage of his generosity. Online quizzes are a pain, don't really prove anything, avoid for lab but good for lecture.
He's tough, but a good guy. If you do your online quizzes, you're guaranteed at least one good test grade. Go see him... he will help. If your willing to study hard.. I recommend him.
Prof H**** needs to get rid of the bow tie and loosen up a bit. Talk about wound tight.
Took a while to get used to his teaching style, but once you do, you'll do fine. Show up to class and do online quizzes every night. Avoid for lab. Very nit-picky. Practical was easy if you know material, but he expects a lot and grades hard.
He's a good guy that tries his hardest, but bless his heart, he's just not good at what he does. Textbook is crummy, so don't expect to learn much from it (supposedly they are getting new ones soon). Although he's a bad teacher, he grades easy.
Great teacher. Tries to explain the concepts of Phys 1. Although you take daily online quizzes, they prove to be very helpful. You cant just come to class and expect to get a 90+, but it you so that you're willing to learn then you'll pass.
Cares about students. Good at explaining concepts. Interesting taste in clothes.

This is the worst teacher at Kettering!!! Avoid him if you can. Daily online quizzes which he lectures on the next day, which means he you have to read the material the day before and he'll lecture on it the next day. How is that supposed to help??
Worst teacher for physics....Avoid him!!!
Tries hard to help you out, and wants you to do well, but sometimes he confuses students with his strict adherence to exact meanings of technical words and concepts. Daily quizzes help out a lot. Do them with a friend or two and your golden.

Nice guy, good at explaining stuff to you one on one. Interesting choice in clothes. I would avoid him merely because of his online quizzes, which you must take every single day, on material he has not covered yet. Gets very annoying.
Online quizzes suck, but they help out a lot. Do them with a couple of friends. Work days also help. But his teaching style sucks. It is hard to lear when he just throws sheets on the overhead instead of actually doing the problems on the board.
The daily online quizzes really suck and didn't seem to help at all. Grades your homework. But overall he really wasn't too bad. There is a small curve on your exams and he gives a lot of partial credit. It's a difficult course no matter who you have.
If phys is new to you, try not to take him. The online quizzes will help your grade. When is comes to examples, both Hassold and the book suck. Don't bother listening in class but go, attendence counts. I wouldn't take him again for anything.
Horrible teacher. He gives theory rather than examples. It makes it diffucult to learn the subject. The online quizzes are a killer.
Worst prof. ever!! Very unclear and also an a**. Definitely not recommended for a basic core class such as physics 1 because you wont understand anything! Dont take him.
Every night you do an online quiz over material he covers the NEXT day. He brings overhead slides and lectures poorly. He will NEVER finish example problems. His exams have nothing to due w/HW, and has no curve at end. If you have not had Phys in HS, AVOID!. Appearance?- Imagine a walking ****.

Was an easier class than I expected. He has a wierd teaching style with online quizzes, but he probably the best physics teacher at Kettering, and also very helpful. You will learn something if you take him. He also gives extra on tests which help your grade a lot.
Lectures were clear, just follow "Knight's 4 step process" and every one of the problems are easy. Tests were not like homework or in class examples...they were easier. If you learn by memorizing numbers and equations, you won't do well here. If you learn by grasping the concepts behind WHY the equation works, this class is a breeze.
Lectures were boring but tests were extremely easy if you grasped the concepts and knew how to do the problems. I wouldn't recommend him if you didn't have physics in high school. He's a jerk and has a ridiculous obsession with the guy who wrote the book, and is overall a very uninspiring physics prof.
One of the better teachers, if you have to take him then take him. Online quizes due every day, lots of theory , not many examples done in class. If you have questions, go after class and ask him and he will expain it to you till you understand it.
Only take his class if you understand physics already. If you have taken physics, jump for this class. He has online quizzes due before you go over the material in the class. If you understand it, it is an easy A, if you don't, don't expect a good grade. Tests are 6-7 multiple choice with an easy workable problem. Just follow the method and ur good
Most Phys 1 & 2 profs require the pre-lecture online quizzes now. Difficult course no matter who you have, but welcome to college. Lectures, HW, tests are all fair. He likes to teach and wants to see you succeed. Probably #2 best phys prof at school.
An excellent upper level physics teacher. He understand that the hard stuff can really be tested on in class, but his homework requirements still makes sure you know it.
very effective professor. he is clear, knowledgeable and willing to help outside of class.
Not a bad teacher, just not that great. You have to take online quizzes over material before he lectures on it. He also has an odd flash card system he uses in class. Lectures are pretty worthless, your best bet is to go to the tutoring sessions the school hosts. Or find Foster (EE dept.) for he was the sole reason many of us passed this class.
he is very helpful with the students. esp if he thinks you try or you take a few seconds after class to ask him a question even if you dont have one. then he cares more how you do. he will help anyone who comes to his office until they understand.
Stubborn and very annoying. online quizzes are horrible b/c if you get it wrong you dont get the answer so you cant try to find what you did wrong. They take forever too. Acts like he's open to suggestion but try to get points back on a test, and he'll deny you every time If you took APPhys B, try to place out (you prob will) or get someone else.
Must be in class everyday! Tests are easy and grading is fair. Pace too slow. Not enough examples. Would not recommend him. You have two Mastering Physics assignments per chapter- one before he even begins teaching and one before the test. Be prepared to read the entire book.
Rhymes with hassle, and thats what his class is. Online tests are long, boring and extremely frustrating. I took AP but was forced to take this class again. was bored by his lectures and played duke nukem the whole class. Unforgiving on tests, and forces you to think HIS way. Decent prof i guess but frustrating stubbornness.
The guy is not open for discussion. Makes you feel like an idiot if you attempt to answer his questions and you get it wrong. His letter system is not efficient at all. Cover very little of the material that we are supposed to cover ineffectivley.
just look at the picture, enough said
Extremely hard class, lots of (out-there) theory. BUT Dr. Hassold teaches it very well and is really concerned about his students performance in the class. Always available for questions on material and homework. Study and you'll do just fine.
very helpful and clear son subject matter but is still shaky on teaching style and test seem to take a turn from material. not very fair grader though
He is very odd. Helpful and clear in the beginning but then makes you learn everything on your own.
I like physics, but I can't stand being in this prof's class. His teaching style is confusing, cumbersome, and detracts greatly from the potential of the class. Ex: He once tried to do 4 problems in an hour and ended up not finishing any of them. He also discourages people from participating in class through his backwards 'incentive'. Tests are ok.
First let me say this: If you have any way to not have this prof, do it! I took physics in high school and I loved it, but more importantly I did very well in it! Now I have Hassold and I'm doing poorly and I am not really liking the subject matter anymore either. Biggest problem is confusing teaching style. Only nice thing is that you get 4 skips
Decent prof, but isn't very organized when it comes down to the 1 hour you have with him. He's all over the place and a bit boring. He's easy to talk to, though, and is a nice and fair guy, who wants you to do well.
Worst Teacher I have ever had
Labs weren't too difficult to do. Sometimes it was confusing as to what he actually wanted out of a lab, but once you figured it out, it was easy. Missed a lab (sick), and he helped me out and gave me full credit for it instead of having me make it up.
Just Aweful... Loved the subject but frustrated at how dificult he made it. Got 2 problems done a day. Graded really tough. Got decient grade but only because i had prior knowlede on the subject. He taught me nothing.. AVOID
I had Hassold for phys 1, 2, and now waves. He was extreamly helpful in waves and seems to really care about his students. All the tests are open book, but that doesnt mean they are easy. There is a lot of homework, but is really necessary if you want to correctly learn the material.
He loves his students and he really wants them to succeed. Do your reading quizzes and actually read the chapters. Do the mastering physics with google and yahoo and you'll get an ok grade. He likes when people go to his office hours. He brings in bakes goods often. And he allows 4 unexcused absences. Not a bad prof.
Greg is halfway decent. Your grade is composed of tests, reading quizzes, and mastering f..king physics. Tests are generally not too bad. Reading quizzes are a pain in the kock but if you get with some friends you can brute force them in an hour. MP is also a pain but work with friends, use answer key and ask Greg and you're good.
Best upper level physics professor I have had. Extremely motivated for his students to understand the material.
He wants to help you succeed. He will work with you to help you understand concepts and succeed in the class. You have to study and practice but he is very fair. I would highly recommend him.
He is definitely passionate about physics and wants you to learn. At times it seems like there is a lot of moving parts in this class (Reading quizzes on blackboard, Mastering physics, in class quizzes, etc), but as long as you don't wait until the last minute you should be fine. I'm not really that great at physics and I have a B in the class.
Prof. Hassold uses Mastering Physics for homework, and gives 3 exams during Common hour. He teaches well and is available for office hours. Do the online homework and study a lot for his exams and you will do well.
Solid professor. Really nice guy. Going to office hours is very beneficial.
Lectures are incredibly useless and the quizzes are over things that are hardly covered. Get ready to buy a Chegg account and spend countless hours screaming at the God awful Mastering Physics homework. You're going to have to work really hard to survive.
Had him for lab, he doesn't care who in the group did the work and gives everyone the same grade. He will not step in to speak to group members who are not providing any help. Quizzes are extremely hard and none of the answers are in the material provided. Everything is due Sunday night no matter what day of the week you have lab.
Didn't like him at all. Had little to no experience with physics going in, went to office hours for help and was drilled with a series of questions from him. Ended up finding help elsewhere because he was very rude to me and other students when we asked questions. Class is so full of online quizzes, and you only do two problems for each unit.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Whenever he is asked a question he forces you to figure it out yourself, making the interaction pointless, and is rude when you don't understand what is going on. There is no point asking him for help, just ask a friend.
Lectures are useless. He quizzes extremely hard. He is honestly ridiculous and an awful professor. Never let this man teach in a institution again. He must like proving his "smartness "over his students.
This guy straight up sucks.
Seriously though, Newtonian Mechanics is not hard, but you won't have a single clue what's going on. Avoid this prof at all costs. Very useless and does not drop the lowest quiz grade.
Prof. Hassold is a very smart man who genuinely cares about his students learning, but most students don't like his teaching methods. The workload is high and he is extremely picky when grading. He makes you work for your understanding not for your grade. If you want a class where you can regurgitate information and equations then avoid Hassold.
Terrible professor. He rarely lectures and when he does they are confusing and overly complex. He gives a quiz every week and even if you get all the answers right on them you wont get credit unless you do it 'his way'. Worst of all is that whenever you try to make recommendations to make his class better he ignores you and does it his way.
This guy should not be teaching. Not only does he make the whole entire structure a complete mess, but his style of teaching is overly complex and if you are learning this material for the first time you will have a rough time. So many small insignificant things are required to be done to succeed in this class. Just try not to get this guy...
Does not show students respect. Only cares about being more correct than you. Keep your head down and do what he asks.
Hassold is awful. He does NOT TEACH! The entire course is on blackboard, so when you get to the weekly quiz you have no idea what to do. Be prepared to try to teach yourself through your term with Hassold. Highly recommend staying away from Hassold if possible.
You do graded activities on things you haven't learned yet. He says he cares more about "understanding" than grades, but somehow there were over 2500 points in this class. Just reads the formulas off of the board. Have fun teaching yourself the entire class because he sure won't. Deserves to be teaching high school physics, not college physics.
We get it Hassold you're smart and you have a PHD in physics. That doesn't mean he knows how to teach. And you would think that being a teacher would involve adapting to newer mindsets. Psych. Get ready to get your head bitten off if you mess up, and get ready to deal with a stubborn teacher who only cares about proving he's smarter than you. Ugh.
NOT WILLING to help students outside of class, generally UNPLEASANT and DEMEANING person to be around, thinks he is smarter than you and constantly reminds you of that, almost everything he says is hypocritical, DOES NOT EXPLAIN CONTENT, bombards you with graded assignments on content he hasn't explained yet, ACTIONS DO NOT REFLECT WORDS.
He's not a great prof, if you want to do well on the unit quizzes you have to go to his office hours and read the textbook on your own. I recommend getting access to Chegg for the mastering physics
He seems like a nice guy who cares about your learning but he simply does not teach the class. It is up to you to learn the subject on your own. I was hoping to go through college without chegg but this class broke me.
Simply put, no teaching here. Each (mandatory) class will vaguely cover the topics for the unit in the broadest of terms. But when you get to the homework "like charges attract" turns into a 10 step problem relying on formulas, equations that you have never used being put together in a way you have never seen. A way certainly not shown in class.
Let's be real. Everyday is a quiz, literally. I studied, used Tutor Me and went to office hours and still am barely passing. His notes are ok, but you could do a lot better. I suggest you get ready to stress out. It is a make it or break it class.
I don't recommend Hassold. Get a Chegg account & a TUTOR. Quizzes every day + hw. There is no time to learn the material . He shows you slides, but doesn't teach you how to do them until Friday. This professor is quite arrogant in office hours. I studied at least 10+ hours a week and am still barely passing. Save yourselves and switch out asap.
Classes are mandatory, but have literally no relation whatsoever to homework and quizzes for the rest, in class he gives vague big picture explanations, but exclusively quizzes and tests on complex applications of math for the course, a typical (weekly) quiz will involve using 5 equations for 1 question (most of which he won't tell you even exist)
I have had the displeasure of being in Prof. Hassholds class for 7 weeks. He thinks you should learn on the homework and on the quizzes. Meaning he purposefully introduces material on the weekly quizzes. A classmate asked him to explain how to do a problem the day after the quiz, and he just refused. Hasn't taught anything he has graded on.
Professor Hassold was a challenging professor for me, especially early on. However, if you make time to go to meet with him outside of class, he is immensely helpful. If I knew this coming in, I would have gotten a much better grade. But as it stands, his class the worst grade I got at Kettering. So if you struggle with him, GO ASK HIM FOR HELP.
Honestly, Hassold gets a really bad rap. You're going to be putting alot of TIME into his class, but not really alot of WORK. Take good notes, do the homework a few days early, and you'll be fine. on quizzes, which you will have multiple a week, he gives you very good credit for explaining your answers, even if you got it wrong
