There is a lot of material, but he does tell you what will be on the tests. You must stay until the end of lecture, as some of the critical information is given only at the end. Leaving a few minutes early could cost you big points on the test essay questions.

He is a good teacher. He know longer gives essays on test until the final exam. Its easy to want to go to class he is such a cutie! He knows what he is talking about and is willing to help you better understand something if you simply ask him to. Ladies a must have Professor!

Great class. Lots of material, but he made it all interesting. Really wants his students to pass, so he bends over backwards to help. He does include some material only covered in class on tests, so be sure to go to class. Also offers a killer field trip .

One of the best professor's I've had yet. He is very down to earth, nice, and truly cares. As long as you make an effort, he is definately willing to help. Great class, Take it, extremely interesting!

Very helpful with answering questions in and out of class. Tests are hard but he curves. Be prepared for a lot of note taking! Over all good professor I heard 50% of class fails this class taking it with other professors......take him!!

Test are pretty confusing be sure to read the questions a few times before answering. He tends to add stuff to the test that he didn't put on the study guide. Overall good class.

This class is an easy A as long as you attend the lectures. He does not put EVERYTHING on blackboard that he lectures about b/c it is an advantage for the students who attends regularly. It is a bonus for them when it comes time to curve the exam. I made over 100% on one exam. Most of the topics on the reviews are on the exam. I recommend him.

History of Evolution-- good course and an easy 'A' with Dr. Herbert. Study hard & make sure to attend all lectures as he fairly rewards for those who do. Beware this class ignores the confounding evidences of evolution, keep an open mind, one cannot deny that there is a maker to this earth when learning the interesting information in this class.

He is extemely nice and easy to follow, probably because hes hot, but he makes the class interesting! The tests are relatively easy, but you HAVE to go to lecture. Towards the end of the semester, he stops posting the notes online. All in all, it was a really interesting class, and i learned a lot.

Great instructor, interesting class. Attendance was not mandatory, but still go, he offers lots of extra credit and useful information for tests for for attendance. lots of t/f on tests, can be tricky. Never boring class.

He teaches controversial subjects such as evolution, how the world began, global warming, etc. I would def reccomend taking him, and printing the notes off-line that he posts before class. Attendance is good because he adds to the notes that arent online, the tests are easy if you go to class and actually pay attention.

I had his class last summer History of Earth & Life and it was AWESOME! Going to class is not mandatory but if you want a B or A go to class and print the slides from online! We never really used the book! He is extremely helpful and HOTTTT!

History of Earth and Life; This guy is one of the smartest guys I've ever been taught by. DO NOT BE SCARED OF THIS CLASS. If you go to class you will be fine. Participate and you'll do even better. He is very interested in what he teaches and his lectures really make you think and wonder about life. Very interesting class with a great instructor!

I took this class in the summer and loved it! The material was interesting and looking at Dr. Herbert for two hours wasn't too bad either ;) Seriously though, I'd definitely recommend this class to anyone!

Awesome professor. Class isn't mandatory but do go to class, take notes, and you'll do fine. He curves the test dramatically if he sees that half the class didn't do as expected. He gives out a lot of extra credit. He post his Powerpoint slides so print them out and study with those and your notes. Really helpful during test time.

This guy is amazing. I got over 100% on every single test (due to the bazillion extra credits he gives) and I ended the class with my first A plus. Warning: Class is not for ignorant religious people who deny scientific truths.

Dr. Herbert is a really good professor. I randomly signed up for this class, but found it very interesting, which I think it largely because he is an interesting professor. He makes it easy to get a good grade if you go to class (and even if you don't, he posts his slides on bb). Don't buy the textbook-you won't use it.

Probably the best professor I've ever had. You will not use the textbook and attendance is not mandatory, but highly recommended. Herbert runs a very interesting class and knows the material inside and out. Exams could be difficult, make sure to study and be prepared to write for the short response questions.

Great professoer..extremely clear in explanations and he loves answering any and all questions.. Attendance not mandatory but definately helps if your there plus random EC for those that are...tests are tough but take notes and study power points and concepts and youll be good.

Wonderful professor but very unclear about what will be on exams. Each powerpoints ranges from 25-110 slides and it is too much to try to remember when he does not give a studyguide of terms or ANYTHING to look over.

No book. No classwork. 4 homework assignments. And only 3 exams. Easy right? WRONG. Although the information is interesting, there's AT LEAST 50 slides for every lecture, and he just talks, and talks, and talks for 75 minutes. There's no study guides or reviews, and his exam are too long. But he is hot, for a nerd; that's a good thing.

Extremely hard class especially for non science majors. Powerpoints are over 100 sometimes 200 slides. Never know what will be on exam. Questions are too in depth for what is covered from slides. Do not take this class. I barely got a C- and I studied hard. I hate chemistry but I would take that over this class anyday. It was somewhat interesting.

Best professor I’ve had By far. I like his approachable attitude, he’s not stuck-up like other professors and you can tell he knows the material. Out of all my science classes this was the only one I learned exactly what science is. Lots of slides but mostly visuals. Tons of extra credit for tests.

He is a fantastic instructor. A lot of times he explicitly states, "This will be on the exam." He even points out what topics will be likely for the essay questions. If you want to pass, you need to go to class. Exams are entirely lecture based. Recording the lectures is helpful as well. That way, you can review them before exams.

This class was very challenging but he kept it extremely interesting. You really need to put a lot of work into his class since he gives so much information, but his passion for what he teaches makes you want to work for your grade. His positive attitude rubs off on you. One of the best teachers I've ever had!

Dr. Herbert is very passionate about Geology and it comes through in his lectures. Even if you're not super into science you will still get something out of his course. Show up and do all of the assignments, and you're sure to do well in this course.

You can tell from his enthusiasm how much he enjoys the subject. Even the most seemingly boring, as would normally be expected from a geology class, is interesting. Even though attendance wasn't mandatory, there was no book, so attending the lecture was a must! And, extra credit was given out randomly, which was super helpful.

He curves test and gives extra credit when you attend class. As long as you take notes on his lectures and review the power points before tests you should be good. There was no cumulative final this semester. He is an awesome guy and very passionate and smart. No textbook or other materials (besides notebook) required

He was my favorite professor! He is passionate about the subject and it shows in his lectures which makes the class more enjoyable. He finds a way to make the material interesting and easy to remember. He is clear about expectations and if you pay attention in lectures you will do fine on tests and home works. He makes it fairly easy for us.

I was concerned about taking this class but it exceeded my expectations! Greg is very passionate about what he is teaching ! no text books so the lectures are a MUST GO! this ended up being my favorite class of the semester. I am not a science major and I still found the class very fun,interesting,and informative! highly recommended for all!!!

I'm currently taking this class, and I am not really into science at all. But, he is very passionate about the subject and says that he will drop anything to talk to a student that needs help. He is a really nice guy and he says the funniest stuff throughout his lectures. I would definitely recommend him to anyone that needs physical science credit

Dr. Herbert even tells you at the beginning of the semester, if you show up to class you will pass. Great guy, passionate, makes the material interesting. If you need a science credit without biochem take this class! With extra credit, I ended the course with 108%. Just show up to class! Attendance optional, but you're only hurting yourself.

So the class is super easy if you have any basic science background. He approaches it like a broad natural science course, not like a historical gly course. Makes it interesting. Only issue is with the exams. The multiple choice have to be verbatim from the slides or no credit, even if the answer is still correct (Annoying). Easy A otherwise.

I wasn't expecting much from this class, but it was wonderful! He's constantly making jokes, and the content is interesting(you talk about space for almost a month). Powerpoints are on canvas, but he always adds stuff to the lecture that will be on the test. Each test gets an extra credit opportunity.

Great professor! Great class and you don't need a textbook which is great but that also means attendance is a requirement. He doesn't take roll but if you miss class you will miss a lot of information but this class is really interesting so I was motivated to go to class.

Professor Herbert was such a cool guy If you attend class listen to the lectures and take nots you should pass there was very little homework maybe like three assignments and the test are very easy but you have to spend some time to review the material I made notecards and studied the day before.

Dr. Herbert was amazing. To pass all you have to do is show up and take notes. He posts powerpoints online, but they're not always up to date with what he's teaching in class. He also doesn't care about what you believe in, he just gives straight facts. History of Life was my favorite class in college so far.

This class was awesome and I learned so much. Tests were hard but you MUST take good notes. He stops lecture every 20 minutes and tells us what will be on the exams. I studied form that and got an A

He literally says "this will be on the exam". Good professor, lectures are kinda long but lots of information. You don't need the book. Extra offer during the exam and in class. You cannot miss a class. The only bad thing is that canvas doesn't accurately reflect your grade. I had a 90% at the end but it ended up as a 86%. Disappointing.

Such a good instructor. Made the class fun especially if things got boring. Makes jokes, and always answers questions in a timely manner. Don't miss a class and don't fall asleep, you will miss key information. Recommend this course.

You MUST go to class. He posts his PowerPoints on Canvas, but they're mostly pictures or articles so you won't get any information. He says you don't need to go in detail, THAT IS A LIE. ALWAYS GO IN AS MUCH DETAIL AS POSSIBLE. And a lot of what he teaches is recent discoveries, so pay attention to Google science - it'll be on the test.

Lectures are very interesting. Professor is so passionate about the subject, and able to incorporate laughter into lectures making class more enjoyable. Don't skip, you'll miss a plethera of information. Tests are tricky but dedicate the time to study your notes and slides and you'll pass. He'll point out during EVERY class what will be on tests.

Lectures are amazing. This class changed my perspective on life & on science. I am considering a Geology major after this because of Dr. Herbert; he is very passionate, hilarious, and friendly and makes learning heavy material a breeze. You'll need to study before tests (a few hours is all it took me) and attend class. Very little homework.

Dr. Herbert's class is awesome. I feel like I learned more about the world in this class than I did in four years of high school. I'm not even a science major, but his lectures are mind-boggling and genuinely interesting. As a professor, he goes the extra mile to make sure his students understand the material. Dr. Herbert LOVES geoscience and LOVES teaching it. He makes his lectures as simple as possible (as far as the technical, science-y stuff) and does as much as possible to make sure you understand the material.

Dr. Herbert is clearly one of the best professors at USF. Homework was few and far between, but graded more aggressively than one would think. Exams required a good deal of preparation. As with any class, more effort better result. I was most impressed with the time he spent responding to student questions. Bravo. Good lectures!

Super easy class (& not about rocks) for people who hate science but need a life science credit. Herbert tells you what is on his exams and offers extra credit in class, so it's really helpful to actually show up. Lectures are really long, so even interesting topics can become painful. Herbert is really helpful and loves what he does.

Professor Herbert is awesome and I highly recommend taking this class. This class can be a little difficult if you are not into geology or evolution; but if you go to class, pay attention, and take notes then it should not be too hard. He makes it interesting and explains difficult concepts very well.

Professor Gregory is a great teacher who knows his stuff. His course allows one to be challenged but yet also be entertained. The course material is very interesting and if you want to pass simply go to class every lecture and just pay attention. Great class and experience.

To sum it up, hes a great guy and professor but history of life is kinda boring and test are kind of hard if you truly dont understand the material. I go to every lecture and Im still very confused on what is going on. I would recommend him however, you will still pass the class just go to class

I was in Dr. Herbert's Anthropocene Seminar. The class was discussion-based, and we each had to submit questions for class discussion the night before. It was a little difficult to understand the requirements for the final portfolio project in the class, but everything else was fairly straightforward.

Professor Herbert is AMAZING. His lectures are so engaging and it's clear he's super passionate about teaching. He's also so nice. The workload is a weekly quiz and three exams where you choose 5 out of 6 questions to answer. The exams and quizzes are both open-note and open-lecture and you get three tries with the quizzes, one try with the exams.

Wonderful class, charismatic guy with a passion for the class and the subject. He has the whole thing down to a formula and lectures are like being in a documentary about the subject. Only a few tests which are open note and relatively fun imho. Gives extra credit and is accessible for talking bout research.

Dr. Herbert is such a sweet man. His lectures are entertaining, and all are on Panopto so you can watch them if you miss class. The only grades were three homework assignments and two exams, and the exams are take home exams with five essay questions. He'll randomly give out extra credit in class so I would recommend showing up. Very nice guy.

He's a really good teacher. The class topics are interesting. He's ready to answer all your questions inside and outside of the classroom. You have 3 tests and 3 projects to do. He will do the reviews before the test, so you'll be fine. If you're interested in geology, he will be a good choice. He's clear on grades.

Very intelligent. He talks fast and can sometimes get off topic. I was in a class of all geology majors and it felt like always got off topic with high level conversations. He's super picky about grading and grades pretty hard. But he's very nice and makes sure to get to know all students.

Dr. Herbert is amazing! I loved going to his class. What I learned in History of Life was extremely invaluable. I was surprised to see quite a few non-geology majors for a major class, because the course topics can get very difficult to grasp. But he does give out a lot of extra credit, and he's just such a fun guy to be around.
