He overcomplicates things.
Talks waaaayyyy above our heads.
He is a really good professor, but can't teach, and helps very little
Just reads overheads, no insight given
No Comments
incomplete notes, reads overheads... avoid if possible
I used to like chem when Newstead was teaching
He's smart. Just that he can't teach for his life.
This man could make boiling water complicated.
Give the guy a break, hes a good teacher, it's just complicated material

Why did I bother going to class? Waste of time.
we apparently learned it in high school after all.......
Greg, buddy, this is NOT easy
Learn how to teach
Nice guy... bad teacher
Nice guy, helpful 1:1 but in not in a large class. Doesn't explain nearly enough
Greg, are you only here for the research?
ughhh..... we did it in HIGH SCHOOL!??!?@@?
Does not know how to teach.
Quite possibly the worst prof at Queen's.
high school...HIGH SCHOOL?! eh... but overall a nice guy.....
Doesn't teach at a first year level.
I had no idea what he was talking about the entire time he was there
No Comments
what a wonderful formula sheet, he gives us 4 of the 30 formulas we need 2 kno
He seems nice, but not a very good lecturer - his slides are too confusing
Not a good lecturer, not clear at all, expected too much prior knowledge
The worst prof in first year eng. Without a doubt.
He wasn't as bad as people thought. Exams were fair...it's just that he wasn't the best in teaching. But Chemistry itself is pretty easy...so I had no problems to learn on my own. Newstead was the best prof
Vern nice man but couldn't teach a lecture to save his life.
Smart guy. Not a terrible lecturer, but sometimes hard to understand because of his accent.
Poorly prepared lectures (eg referring to notes that do not show up because of the unadjusted projector that he will not fix), lecturing ability can be improved to keep it flowing, not a lot of interactivity between the class and him during lectures.
umm, ummm, ahhm, that's what he says, and he says it alot. half of his lectures are just extended vowel sounds. geez, made me fall asleep. i dont know the guy personally and he seems to be generally happy, but, he just doesnt teach well.
mabe if he could say what he was thinking it might be better
"Is it one? or two? The answer is no."
so hard to follow what he's talking about. He seems really nice but he just doesn't lecture well.
Not that great in teaching, but he's a good person
So nice! and willing to help!
Introducing the Dr Jerkiewcz joke that's not actually a joke: We believe that he is trying to tell a joke, yet there is no substantial evidence that it is a joke, so we can never really tell. His subpar lecturing with his dry humour=hard class to sit thru
He tries, I think he just doens't get it that we don't understand. His lecture notes tie my brain in knots. Good person tho.
I just don't understand anything he teaches, he makes no sense to me.
He has got to learn english a little better and also learn how to say carbon. Oh yah he should probably stop making up words in class cause they just dont make sense.
A pretty good prof. Has an obvious passion for chemistry and seems to enjoy teaching. Prepare for the lectures by reading over the material to be covered in class - it helps!
dont grill the guy because of his accent, he is a very nice man, and knows what he is talking about, maybe you guys should give him a chance
Very nice man. I don't know why people don't like him. If you were smart enough to get into Queen's, you can bear with this professor too. He is not a bad prof or anything.
Absolutely horrible teacher. Is not clear in his lectures and is never willing to help outside of class time. When you ask him a question, he just tells you to read the ntoes.
very nice. But his lectures are confusing. And he answers questions with "read the webnotes"
Very Nice guy
Danger, APSC 131 students, Danger
Cool guy
This guy sucks. Beware...
BORING
i love chemistry with a passion, and he made me question how i feel towards this course. he is just too unclear, and doesnt' specify in lectures what is really important. not to mention his equation sheet for 131 exam really pissed me off. argh!
Seems nice but doesn't know how to teach. Makes everything so confusing and un-clear
Jerkiewicz is a good guy and he may be very smart. But his lectures were ridiculous. I ended up teaching myself the chemistry that was covered in his lectures and he was getting paid! How awesome!
He is very nice, helpful and accomodating outside of class, but he gets a bad rap becauase the material he teaches is so much harder than the rest of the course. Students think the teachres confusing instead of the material. Go ask him, you'll understand.
Very intelligent, and an excellent prof who can explain the most unusual things quite clearly.

Regonize! lol he tends to say this regularly throughout the classes...about 40 times a lecture!!
RECONIZE.......Great guy, little hard to understand sometimes.
Awesome
if it weren't for recognize there would be no point going to the lectures...you basically have to teach yourself the course.

He's intelligent
Great lectures
Best prof in first year engineering
The best prof of APSC 131, who knows how to explain the difficult material
My favourite word is REKONIZE
Good teacher, cares about the students, his accent can make things a bit confusing though. His penmanship is very decorative, and I love it when he says Recognize.
recognize that this is a great teacher
Hard course, great prof!!
Lecture notes aren't helpful, and I needed to read the textbook to understand certain parts. Otherwise, he's alright.
A great prof. He got stuck teaching what seemed like the hardest part of the course, but did a great job. His accent was a bit hard to understand sometimes, but I rarely had a problem with that. So, in summation, a great prof.
He's not too bad!!
Really good guy. Deserves more recognition than what his ratings are like.
Hard to understand, except when he says "recognize."
Very good prof

Good prof.
Alright prof, got stuck with the difficult part of the course to teach, his notes were not that good. Also not a captivating speaker, sometimes made it difficult to pay attention.
Got a lot more criticism than he deserved, needs more mature students.
Shows genuine concern for students -wants them to learn material and do well. Good notes. Makes best of a fairly dry course. Funny and has a good sense of humour, also we enjoy the random video clips.
Well taught course. He cares for students. Great atmosphere in class
One of the most interesting courses I have this year. Dr. Jerkiewicz is a very good teacher and he is really fair.
God, this was a bad class. It's not entirely his fault since it's dry material but he doesn't help by teaching right from the text with internet notes. Anyone who can should avoid this class and those who have to take it should hope they don't get this guy.
i love this prof. he is funny and is far more accomodating than he should be, and he is far underappreciate in applied science. i really liked this course once it ventured from thermochemistry. he is extremely approachable and helpful. his lecture notes are good and his lectures are fun.
Great notes but he seemed to be reading them more than explaining them. Explanations in general suffered from something fierce. LOOOVED the open book policy. Thanks for taking 45 minutes out of your day to show up to the three-hour final. Really appreciated that, you're a team player.
Prof. Jerkiewicz is awesome! He's the nicest prof ever!
Excellent prof, interesting course, great notes, fair exams, all around awesome.
Interesting lectures and well organized lecture notes
Very well-organized, easy-to-follow material. Open-book tests!
He likes the subject and enjoys teaching it. Good prof to have. Open-book exam is great.
Sweet little old man - I just adore this guy. However, the subject is really damned hard (especially for the physics non-inclined), and sometimes it's difficult to figure out what he's trying to say. The open book tests were a life saver, and you really got the idea taht he wanted you to do well. Awesome prof!
He seems to care about us, clear explenations, so far interesting
This professor is just great!
This site should consider only more recent ratings in the overall prof-smiley. It seems, from ancient posts, that he used to bore students to tears. These days, however, he deserves all smiles! Perhaps extra smiles for improving so much! The material's tough (especially thermo) but the funny/useful applications and his anectodes are fabulous.
what can I say...except he is the best prof in the chem department hands down! I took his 4th year course simply because he was teaching it.
Want to learn something new in a friendly and stimulating atmpsphere? Take this course.
One of my favourite professors at Queen's. Really cares about his students, and does his best to make you enjoy his classes. Would definitely recommend this prof.
One love.
Open note exams and uses questions straight from the text book assigned questions that you get to bring to class. He puts no work into his lectures the figures are stolen straight from the text. He gets good marks cus he babies us.
The first half of the course was a gong show (thermodynamics...) but once he got into the materials stuff it got a little more interesting (still fell asleep in class a lot, though). Not the most approachable person (especially due to serial napping). I relied heavily on the textbook. Open book did not go well.
What a great teacher
FAV PROF!
So hard to understand at times, but he's a super nice guy who puts a LOT of effort into making sure you understand the material and are ready for the exam.
He's a nice guy, and he seemed to care about the students, but his accent made it difficult to understand what he was saying sometimes. It got better as time went by, but he still seemed to go through things a little quickly
Great teacher that really cares about students. Puts a lot of effort into making sure students understand by using lots of analogies and examples. Funny and engaging. Creates a great atmosphere to learn in
funny guy, wants his students to do well, too bad he isn't very easy to understand... only had him for 3 weeks, it was plenty...
good guy, clearly cares about his students and want them to do well, but does a horrible job explaining the material with useless "virtual experiments" and his exam was very tough
