take this class!
class is a breeze and he is very animated and good for a laugh
Usually easy class but interesting.
Obnoxious lecture delivery style. Paper requirements and grading are unclear.
Greg rocks my face off. He's such a riot.
A fun teacher who makes class interesting rather than a bore. Tests aren't that hard but you need to study. Watch lots of movie clips. A great class

He just talks and talks and does not give clear definitions, and this class is mostly definitions. The paper is not clear and have to attend to 3 plays during the semester which is very inconvenient.
Weird guy. I hated his class, but I can see how somebody would like him. He tries hard to be funny and makes a lot of references to pop culture. He has an obnoxious voice, and he makes up class as he goes along. I thought it was really boring, and it's hard to study for it. He messed up my grade and wouldn't help me with it. Easy class though.
Random weird guy. Goes around the subject and makes up each class. The plays read were somewhat interesting but the lectures were almost unbearable. Random test questions come from lectures so you have to go.
Just write a creative paper. Like...really creative. Hell, tape yourself doing a bad modern dance and justify it. I promise it will work.
this teacher is def. strange, I do not know what's up with him but he tries to make stupid statements. Plus the class i very boring, probably the least interesting class I ever took, nothing helpfull in this class just waste of time, plus the exams are pretty confusing, I would never take this class if I knew who he was. good luck~
Classes are extremely easy, professor is very engaged in the material and understanding of students' concerns
i hated this class
makes class fun, tests aren't bad if you go to class, does attendance checks so make sure to be there for those, very approachable, nice professor-take his class!
Greg is amazing. I really don't know why these ppl have been givin him a bad rep. Funny as hell which makes class interesting. Pop quizzes for attendance so be there. Tests aren't that bad just make sure you've read the plays. His true or false can be tricky so you need to study a little bit. Seriously take his class!!!!!
I absolutely hated this class. It was boring and useless. I only liked one of the plays and it was hard not to fall asleep. He speaks very softly which makes u fall asleep. He doesn't give back papers, so you never know how you did. The tests aren't that bad...I never payed attention and did alright but there was really no point to this class.
lots of reading involved in the class and lots of pop quizzes so attendance is a must. he makes examples interesting by using movies, music videos, etc. he is a character; very entertaining. however, he is very unclear and the tests are harder than the lectures, which seem like they were thrown together right before the class.
I liked the class and the test were extremely easy. Prof. Kable is an extremely nice person but is often not very clear about what he wants esp. on the course paper. All in all not a bad class.
Knows his stuff and is very fun. Though attendance is mandatory, you really only need to pay attention one of the days (out of 2-3) a play is discussed--the information is repeated often and the lectures can be circular. Not bad at all.
It's a good idea to go to class since he sometimes gives in-class assignments, but otherwise it's a pretty easy going course as long as you try to write papers beforehand. He watches a lot of interesting clips in class and is pretty cool for a professor.
Kable is eccentric and you can tell he's a nutty artsy genius guy. He shows lots of video clips in class, so coming to class is something you look forward to!
Relatively easy. True or false questions are kind of annoying on his tests. Try to go to class as much as possible, but it doesn't kill you if you miss a class or two. Video clips are fun and he's a pretty funny guy. The only real problem I had was how drastically different his TAs graded our papers, but that's not his fault.
True & false questions suck. Half the final was T&F. He's really funny and nice. Paper's pretty annoying because it really long. Exams aren't too bad. Interesting class. Some notes in class.
Prof Kable is very knowledgeable on the plays that we read and offered interesting insight. The two papers and final paper are graded easily & class is mainly discussion based. Movie clips and often used.
Don't let his joke and lighthearted nature fool you, this class is no walk in the park. Exams require that you read and know minute details from the plays. In addition to this, the eight page paper is tiresome and your grade depends completely on your TA and are FINAL!!!! And if you ever email him, don't expect a response.
I would recommend this class because it is fairly easy and Professor Kable is knowledgeable. However, the 8 page paper you have to write is very tedious. Go to class and take notes because exam questions can be specific. If you go to class on days where a fair amount of students are missing he will give 5-6 points extra credit on the next exam!!
love it!! he makes awesome use of multi media and he loves to joke around... its also kinda easy to convince him to delay deadlines for assignments! :)
he was funny, but the class was too hard for a freaking drama class
loved him! attendance is not mandatory, but definately rewarded. he occasionally gives extra credit and about 90% of his tests are based DIRECTLY off of his notes/lectures. he likes to make little jokes and video/movie days are always enjoyable. overall, a great professor who is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches!
I liked Kable. Very funny at times, make sure you read the plays-& not just scan through them either..he takes somewhat minute details from plays for questions. Not a hard class, just read the plays and go to lecture (notes are pretty straightforward, he just explains things as they relate to different "movements" in the drama world). Take him!
Way too hard for a drama class. 8 page paper isn't as bad as it first seems. Mandatory to read plays and attend lecture or else your exam grade will suffer
Greg is awesome! He's quirky but in a good way. His class is fun. There were three essays, including the final and they were creative and fun to write. If you need a performing arts credit, take one of his classes!
Took this class to fulfill a requirement. I don't like drama, but Kable was alright. He's an interesting fellow. Def need to read the plays. Papers aren't hard. Attendance mandatory and he demands participation. But no tests! Not a bad drama class to take care of that requirement.
Greg is so fun! Very enthusiastic and he likes to show multi media stuff like music videos and fun stuff!! Grading was very easy, just read the plays and do the assignments. Also participation is key... he will ask a question and let there be an awkward silence until someone raises their hand!!!
Great class! Not too challenging, but you definitely need to have a general sense of what is going on in the plays. Okay to miss class occasionally. Tests can be tricky, but as long as you study the night before you'll be fine. Kable is a very entertaining professor!
Definitely an entertaining guy. He doesn't take attendance, but if you want to pass his exams, you should definitely go to class. His exams are multiple choice and true false, and they basically come straight from his lectures. Some questions are about things that he never really talked about, but you really only need to sparknote the plays.
Entertaining, a bit tough at times, but not too unfair.
Kable is very funny and friendly, he works hard to create a fun, comfortable learning environment. He shows videos pretty much everyday and is a very passionate lecturer. Tests are easy as long as you read and you will get an A on the 8-page paper if you put any modicum of effort into it. He made me look forward to coming to class, take him.
I thought I was going to fail this class after the first test but that was because I literally didn't pay attention. After that, I started taking notes and paying attention in class. I got A's on both the second test and the 8 page paper. You don't have to know drama to do well. He's funny and gives lots of extra credit but there are NO CURVES.
The A was much harder to get than it should've been with my prior knowledge because TAs arbitrarily grade papers (mine had only a 3 word comment) and test questions can be ambiguous even with studying. Still, it's a fun class with an entertaining professor. Start the paper early and come every day in case he gives EC (esp days right after tests).
I love Greg. He's interesting and knowledgeable and it's obvious that he cares about teaching. Make sure you know the information on the study sheets and you'll be golden on tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, but class is always interesting; he shows film clips every day and often gives extra credit.
Professor Kable is passionate about what he teaches and makes classes interesting. Makes drama enjoyable even to those who are not interested in the arts
Prof. Kable is great! He's a really nice guy, and is very passionate about theatre. He relates all of the plays to today by comparing them with movies and TV shows today. There are four essays a semester, including the final exam. There is almost never any homework besides reading plays.
This class was pretty easy. Kable's lectures aren't that boring, considering that it's drama. If you take good notes and are good at memorization, you'll be fine.
He was one of my favorite teachers. such a great class to go to.
A really fascinating lecturer but his tests are confusing and difficult.
Funny and clever but lectures are often monotonous, tests are confusing.
Great professor! No homework outside of a few papers/group project. Not a lot of work and an easy grader. Class is mandatory (with the exception of a few absences he'll excuse) but reading is not mandatory. As long as you read up on sparknotes before class you can generally be fine in the class discussions which are voluntary to speak in.
His personality will strike you, he's funny and witty although he won't look like it at first glance. Very passionate about theatre and is enthused with class participation. Test we multiple choice and true/false so they could be tricky, but they were generally easy if you pay attention to lecture
Take this class with this professor! He is absolutely great! Makes a dull non-major subject very interesting. I was dreading this course when I enrolled but it is definitely one of my favorite classes that I have taken. Kable is the man!
This class is completely doable. Kable makes the subject interesting and when I took this class last spring it was easy to do well if you did the assigned readings and came to class. The paper is daunting at first, but it really isn't that bad once you get started. Would definitely recommend!
My 2nd class with Kable. I love him- favorite professor here. Makes my day bright with clips from Lady Gaga concert footage, Mean Girls, Glee, and Pitch Perfect.
Professor Kable clearly loves Drama, and this drama class is really fun and gets rid of a lot of GENEDS. Its not too hard at all, and his grading criteria for essays is always very specific so you know what to do to get a good grade. Definitely recommend this seminar.
Prof. Kable makes his lectures fun. I had him for DRAM 292: The American Musical. His lectures are full of comedy and videos that explain exactly what he is talking about. While his grading rubrics are always the clearest, if you need help, it's definitely there. Attendance policy is very strict. GO TO CLASS!!!
Greg Kable is honestly the not-so-hidden gem of UNC. Ask any Drama student and they will most likely tell you that you should probably take at least one of his classes while you're at UNC. If you wanna watch Lady Gaga and Birdman to illustrate drama history concepts, then this is your class. Hilarious, fun, and you'll learn a lot.
Passionate professor who loves his subject. HOWEVER, Dr. Kable is a confusing lecturer and gives tests with unclear prompts. He is also unwilling to help; I had trouble all year asking him questions and he even refused to see me for office hours. I would not recommend taking his class unless drama is your strong suit.
very eccentric, love him to death. took DRAM81H, was super fun and an easy A! highly recommend
Loved Greg! He's hilarious in an eccentric way. The assignment descriptions are not entirely clear, but as long as you put in a visible amount of work, he'll appreciate your effort. Definitely recommend for anyone, not just people interested in drama!
Okay so Drama 115 should be an easy A right? Not with this professor. I made a B- with a lot of effort as compared to friends with no work and A's with another professor. The tests are half true and false, which are extremely easy to confuse so don't think of true and false as something easy. He talks the entire hour with slides with literally pics
Kable is quite a character (in a good way)! Never thought I would enjoy a drama class, but the plays we read actually aren't bad at all. If you go to lecture and actually jot down what he's saying (and do other crap the entire time) you'll ace the tests. It's all pretty straightforward and Kable is a fun guy.
Kable's lectures are fantastic! I never thought I would enjoy a drama class but we read so many different plays I had never heard of that I thoroughly loved. He's funny and tries really hard to make everything relatable. I really like his interpretation and analysis of each and every play and how he connects it to contemporary culture. Take him!
Stands in the front and lectures, take notes on your computer because he doesn't put words on the slides. Learning old literature, but he tries to make it better by showing videos of modern examples (like Taylor Swift music videos). But he gives LOTS of extra credit, sit up front bc you are more likely to be chosen for reading script, he is sweet.
Super nice guy. Tests are long, but classes are interesting. We read through the plays a lot which is helpful.
One of my favorite teachers here at UNC-CH. I've taken his classes before, and I'm excited to take another of his classes next semester.
Professor Kable was a decent choice for DRAM 115. While the class workload was nearly nothing, our entire grade was based off 2 midterms, a final and a paper. If I had known how to study I wouldn't have got a 62 on the first midterm. Take notes on the powerpoints from Sakai and you'll be fine. Glad to have my LA credit out of the way.
He's a nice guy. His lectures involve the showing of lots of movie scenes and in-class readings of plays. His slides are creative too. He gives lots of extra credit - especially on the last class day before a holiday weekend or break. You don't have to read every play or go to every class to make an A. The class paper isn't so bad.
Kable is one of my favorite professors at UNC. He gives lots of extra credit and makes the class interesting with modern references. As long as you take notes, this class is an easy A. Tests are multiple choice and based on lectures or plays you have to watch. One long 8 page paper dialogue style, although it is very doable. Highly recommend!!!!
Professor Kable is the classic drama teacher. He is very kind, and although it is a large class, he will get to know you if you want. You don't have to attend class, but almost everything on the tests come from his lectures and the reading. There is a lot of reading but it is mostly interesting and he divides it up so it isn't overwhelming.
Kable is sweet, but take DRAM115 w a different professor (easy A with anyone else). Tests are too specific/tricky. Don't buy the textbook & sparknote all the plays instead (you won't read them anyways). Actual play content isn't that important, just what he says during class. Class is just 3 tests and a 10 page paper. Gives out extra credit.
Kable is a good guy, but his class is so much more than what it should be. The exams are pretty difficult for an "easy A" class. I wish I would have taken drama with another professor, as it's a good way to get the LA credit. 10 page dialog paper sucked, especially with only 4 grades.
Super nice guy! Read the material and go to class, that's it. But he is worth taking just for the relaxed feel of the class.
Kable is a nice and knowledgable guy. But he rambles on and on in his lectures and it doesn't feel like he is actually saying anything. His PowerPoints are also just random words slapped on a slide that provide no insight whatsoever.
Professor Kable was not the best professor I've had. Lectures were very monotonous and unexciting. He was barely accessible out of class and wasn't available during office hours numerous times. Also the 10 page, single-spaced paper didn't really sell me on the class either.
Kable is my absolute favorite professor at UNC. Specifically for this class, he used little clips from so many modern films to relate the material, and all exams were multiple choice. There was a huge paper toward the end of the semester, but I wrote it in two sittings and got a B on it. If you study effectively, you'll do well.
This class seemed like it would be easy until the first test. I felt very prepared but still had to struggle all year to barely pull out a B. Unfair grading on the 10 page single spaced paper by a TA that did not know basic grammar rules and Kable was unwilling to meet to discuss the paper after. Take this class with someone else
He's super sweet, is usually accessible out of class. There's only four grades and the class is more relaxing rather than a burden. You don't need the book, but make sure to sparknote it before class. He also rounded my grade up a letter grade so make sure to go to office hours and be familiar with him. Final paper was a breeze as long as you try.
Kable is very passionate about this topic. However, the 3 tests (your only grades+a ten page paper) were difficult to study for. Take notes on everything in the class and study them, and you can do well. Maybe consider taking it with someone else so that the tests aren't so frustrating. Also, I read all of the plays, and it didn't help me at all.
Your whole grade comes from four things: weekly forum posts, a paper, a final, and attendance. Kable posted our grades for the forum posts publicly on Sakai every person who wrote one always got a 100. I figured the papers would be graded similarly, but he was extremely harsh and didn't give us our grades until LDOC and had no more office hours.
Read a few plays which we reread in class. He really makes sure you understand what he wants you to put on papers etc. which makes it easy to get a good score. Just watched movies in class.
Super sweet and approachable. He cares about his students and gives great lectures, that although sliiiggghhhtttlllllyyy scatter brained, he gives clear information, entertaining plays to read, and makes class really fun and interesting with his insight, activities (such as scene panels and acting exercises), and funny videos.
Greg is awesome! You can see how passionate he is when he lectures, and his selection of plays for the class is amazing. I've loved them all. If you have any background with reading drama, definitely take Kable for 120. The reading lists of other professors have a lot of repeats from my high school English classes, so I'm glad I took Kable instead.
Professor Kable is one of my favorite professors at UNC! He gives awesome lectures and makes it really fun to discuss plays! We watch a ton of videos in class, and the assigned readings were all really great plays and most of them were super easy to read! Absolutely loved this class and the professor! 10/10 recommend!
DRAM292 was a ton of fun. It was a breezy class but I learned a lot. Dr. Kable is awesome and a hilarious person.
Overall pretty good! Kable teaches almost all of the Analytical, High School-style drama courses at UNC, but he has it down to a real formula and he's a very effective prof! Project was a bit long, but overall worth taking I believe!
Professor Kable is extremely caring and wants you to participate and pass his class. The paper you have to write is not bad at all because it is in dialogue style and he gives PLENTY of extra credit. Keep up with your readings and you should be able to make an A in the class.
Kable is an interesting guy, and definitely knows his stuff. I wasn't that into drama, but he kept my attention throughout the entire semester. Also, he wants you to learn the material (especially what he teaches), and you'll do fine if you pay attention. There was a 10 page paper (not fun to write), but other than that, not much work.
I thoroughly enjoyed having Kable as a professor. He is clearly passionate about what he teaches. I suggest anyone interested in the fine arts take at least one of his courses.
You really need to go to class, pay attention, AND READ ALL THE PLAYS if you want to get an A. He will give extra credit opportunities, information and show clips in class that will be on the exams. You also really need to do good on the paper but he is really nice and gives great lectures in class.
Super caring professor! Drama is really not my thing but I found the class fairly interesting. You can get away with not doing the readings, and the projects are fairly easy but still interesting and creative. A great class for a first year looking for a breather class amongst a heavy schedule.
Kable's really neurotic, but in a good way. Really nice guy who ties in a lot of modern culture to ancient works. Has a lot of funny quips and is generally engaging. You can get an ungodly amount of extra credit on exams if you read in class, so DO THAT. The eight page paper admittedly isn't that fun, but it was graded very leniently. Easy A imo.
This class is best for people that like to talk in front of others because that's how you get all of the extra credit. Attendance is mandatory. I hated this class, but I'm not into plays. There is an 8 page paper, but I somehow managed to get an A on it. I did not do well on the exams because they are specific. If you're into drama its probably ok.
Prof. Kable is my favorite professor at UNC. If you love musicals, TAKE THIS CLASS. He is so kind and caring about his students and the course material. If you show up and participate, you'll do great in this class. Just 2 papers and a final, plus participation grade. Best class I've taken at UNC. Kable is amazing. 10/10 recommend.
He's such a nice human being. Such a chill 8 am class. You just gotta show up and listen to the book. You read for homework. It's chill, light and an escape from the other classes. The only problem I have is that TA's usually grade the work, so you can get unlucky with a tough grader. Prof. Kable is a great prof however
I wish I liked this class, but it was SO boring. The plays we read in class were often monotonous and for an 8 am, I was constantly on the verge of falling asleep.
Professor Kable is gem. A ray of sunshine IMO. I had his 8am class this semester. I *hate* waking up early in general but if you have to take a 8am class this class is a good pick. Be sure to participate when reading plays, it will make the time go faster. When it comes to papers just meet the guidelines and pray you get a TA who grades fairly.
I took this class to fulfill a gen-ed, but ended up getting a lot out of it. As someone who was involved with theater in high school, I enjoyed reading plays and discussing them in a different context. Easy A. A textbook is listed for the class, but is not needed because Professor Kable posts all plays as PDFs. Interesting lectures and discussions.
Dude really knows his stuff! Although I took it at 8am it was still enjoyable. Be sure to participate!
He is a very nice guy. You read a lot for homework, but the plays are normally pretty interesting so it isn't horrible. Classes are kind of boring because you just read through different scenes that you already read for homework for the majority of the class. 3 papers and participation grade.
Professor Kable is such a nice guy! I was hesitant to take this class because it said drama majors only, however, the class was fairly straight forward. If anything, keep track of the terms used during class because you will see them or need them again either in papers or in the final. You will not regret taking a class with him!
I LOVE PROFESSOR KABLE!! He's a very easy grader. He's also a real gem, so caring and nice. I highly recommend him and would take him again.
Prof. Kable was a very fun guy to listen to during his lectures. The three papers we did during the semester were graded very leniently but I did hear about a few of my friends who got screwed over on one or two of the papers. Overall, pretty easy class.
Despite it being honors, this was my easiest class this semester. He is very passionate about what he does and was always considerate of our individual situations in response to COVID. This class had very little work or reading, and was actually really fun
Prof. Kable was really understanding of the COVID circumstances and was there to help everyone out. Final grade was based upon three papers and one final, which were easy to do well on if you read the material. If you're a dramatic arts major, you will probably take many classes with him. Thankfully, he is a great professor!
Took this at 8am and was very boring. Requires a lot of reading, but grades are based on 3 papers and final. Mostly a very chill class. However, a lot of students emailed him about grading and he never responded to most of us. That was really frustrating because there wasn't really any set rubric for the papers and TA grading seemed to vary.
Professor Kable is the definition of delightful. In Covid classes, he has made me feel like an actual student with fun lectures that foster a great environment. He is incredibly receptive to students, often flexible with deadlines without even asking. He has such a love of dramatic arts that is hard not to feel in his classes.
Kable is just a nice guy! Class is super fun even for non-theater kids, you just watch musical numbers and chat. Show up, write the 3 reflections (3 pages each, practically graded for completion), and get an A. Kable knows a lot and just wants to have some meaningful conversation. I recommend this class but it does get boring after a while!
I loved this professor. I had never taken a drama course before, but enrolled in this one to fulfill a general education requirement and I loved it. If I had a reason to take another class from him, I would in a heartbeat. He is nice, understanding, and if you understand what he is teaching, you should do just fine in this course.
I've never been exposed to much theatre, but I took this credit for a gen ed. I learned a lot in this class, and Prof Kable has a great sense of humor, is extremely knowledgeable, and can always put a smile on my face. The class itself was just clip viewing and conversing about it. 3 short papers and a final paper. All graded easily and timely.
Professor Kable is a really nice guy with engaging lectures. He made drama for non-theater students really entertaining. His class was also super easy with only 3 papers and a multiple choice final. Overall would definitely recommend him and his class for someone who wants an easy and interesting GenEd course!
Kable is an amazing professor! I took this class to satisfy my VP credit with no background in theatre and I found the class easy! All midterms and the final was a paper that were all super clear with the expectations. He is understanding if you can not make lecture one day and posts recordings.
I took this class virtually during fall freshman year. Professor Kable was extremely accommodating and very willing to give extensions. The readings were fun (you read most of it in class) and you didn't have to participate a lot to get full participation scores. I think everyone got instant A's on the essays too. Take this class!
Love Kable. Kable is a God amongst men. Participate and be generally aware and he'll love you and you'll love him.
Love Professor Kable. He was a really nice guy and really loved the material he was teaching. Just keep up with the plays so you can write a few solid essays because that is all you're graded on basically.
Kable makes DRAM a DREAM. He is truly the kindest professor I've had at UNC. Great and prompt feedback make this class a job. Thanks, Professor!
Professor Kable is amazing! His class is interesting and the expectations are clear and not confusing at all. I took his class during summer session and his caring personality will never be forgotten. Take a class with him!
Literally such a great guy, very understanding and cares about his students. Will say the paper was a bit taxing, but that is one of the only assignments you get all semester along with 2 tests and the final. If you're going to take dram 115, TAKE IT WITH HIM!!!! Can't stress this enough.
Professor Kable is a really great professor - he's very passionate about the arts. However, if you aren't, this is not the class for you. You are assigned hundreds of pages of plays per week, and aren't well-prepared for his exams. If this is something you enjoy; go for it. Really great guy and professor. Manageable but difficult.
Professor Kable is so so sweet. He was so passionate and excited about the plays that we analyzed. The class is a lot of reading and graded by two tests, a course project, and participation. He's a pretty generous grader though.
A perfect choice for GenEd! Grade mainly depends on three tests and one paper (he actually gave all of us 100 in one test). Bunch of extra credit (5 points in one test if reading the paper, and 6 points in each test if showing up).The 10-page paper is long but doable in two months. Only thing to notice: read the scripts before each class!
Love Kable, the class is graded by three tests and a final, due to the suicides on campus he gave us all 100s 0n the second test and the paper is not graded harshly. God amongst men.
Professor Kable is so kind and passionate about the material. Lectures were entertaining and included movie clips related to the plays. There are only 4 grades. The 10 page course paper is graded leniently as long as you follow the rubric. The exams were very specific, but an A is doable if you are willing to take detailed notes and study hard.
Love Mr. Kable!! Hes so kind and gives so much extra credit. You can tell hes super passionate about what he teaches.
Grade is based on 3 tests and a 10 page paper. The tests are super specific and includes things he said wouldn't be included. He's a nice guy, tries to keep class interesting with movie clips and songs, and you can tell he's passionate about drama.
Only grades are 3 multiple choice tests and a 10 page (single-spaced) paper. You are not well-prepared for the tests and they tend to be pretty difficult. The paper grade was mainly based on if you were lucky enough to get a TA that just gave 100's if you had at least 10 pages written.
tests are in person and HARD. take 115 ONLINE ONLY. DO NOT TAKE THIS FOR EASY A bc it is not
I LOVED my class with Professor Kable and I'm definitely taking a class with him again. He's very easy to take a class with and while it was very easy to skip, I did get a lot out of it. Be prepared to watch scenes from High School Musical and Glee in class, because he will GET you to participate. Highly suggest.
This was my fun class for the semester and I really enjoyed it. The professor made class fun by showing videos and making us read plays(which was extra credit). He understands that students have a tough time in school so he gives a lot of extra credit. The tests can be a lil specific but if you pay attention and take good notes you will be fine! :)
The class content was fairly easy with a lot of reading for the plays and the tests contained a lot of questions about specifics. Lectures were not recorded which made it hard to be flexible for this class. Extra credit is given if you read in front of the class or attended lectures (esp LDOC). He was very generous with our assignments.
grade is made up of 3 papers and a project, but he is very helpful and not that tough of a grader. his lectures are great and class was always entertaining
Dr. Kable is a wonderful professor and really knows his stuff. We read all the plays out loud in class, so it's totally fine if you miss a reading or two. I thought a "Staging America" class would be all white male focused, but he does a great job of incorporating diverse plays. Three papers, but he's a generous grader. Loved this class!
Professor Kable was incredible! He knew so much about theatre but delivered his lectures in ways that were very digestible. The class is based on only 4 grades, but he gives very generous extra credit. However, don't think you can just sleep through this class. Many people were caught off guard by the content on the tests, so pay attention.
I love this man. Hes adorable and obviously very intelligent, has an amazing memory. He always incorporated relevant videos into his lectures. Every day he gave extra credit if you read in front of the class. Gave lots of 100s on essays. The tests were pretty hard (we took 2) but extra credit helped a ton! Definitely recommend this class.
Greg is a great, passionate guy. His lectures are very enjoyable. The whole class is graded on 3 exams and a 9 page paper. You really have to study for the exams and work hard on the paper, but it's not too bad. He gave us full credit for one of our exams if we turned the paper in on time. Lots plays to read. There's many chances for extra credit.
Dr Kable is a great prof u can tell loves to teach. Funny and engaging. The tests can be specific but it's an easy A bc he gives SO MUCH extra credit. Some u have to earn but most is free. Barely need to study. Only grades are 3 tests + a final paper that is graded by TAs (grade is highly dependent on who grades your paper which is unfair but eh.)
Such a fun class! Watch multiple musicals during class which you use to write 3 reflections throughout the semester and a final paper.S uper nice and understanding guy
Kable is a great professor and this class is fun. Basically just watching clips from musicals. Class was just 3 reflections and final. Reflections are graded super easy. Took forever to get grades back tho.
Kable is very nice and caring. not the easiest gen ed course, but attendance isn't mandatory. grade based upon three tests and one large paper. 10 plays you need to read or at least know what they're about. generous with extra credit.
Dr. Kable is a respectable professor. He gives good lectures. You will get a lot of extra credits. However, exams are super hard. To get good grades on them, you have to take notes as much as you can during lectures since his slides are not helpful. So, if you want to enjoy taking drama, don't take his class.
Fun class! We just watch musical clips Kable explains them through different points of view. It doesn't make very much sense but you only need a gist to do well in the class. there are only 3 essays and one final essay for assignments, so not a lot of room for error, but they're not graded harshly. I highly recommend the class!
Professor Kable is so sweet and obviously passionate about what he is teaching! His classes are typically graded by few things but he's a fair grader. Definitely recommend, his classes are a lot of fun!
Prof. Kable was great! I took this course as a non major and thoroughly enjoyed it - most of class time was spent watching and discussing numbers from various musicals. It was clear that he has extensive knowledge of the subject and the course is very well organized. The only assignments are a few 3-4 page papers that are graded pretty easily
Professor Kable is truly a joy to be around! While I am not a fine arts major, I still greatly enjoyed his class. He is so enthusiastic about the material and makes lectures fun and interesting in every way he can. I cannot stress enough that this class is such a great choice for gen ed requirements. Study powerpoints and you will do fine.
His powerpoints are KEY... there are only 3 tests and a course paper so you must do well on the tests. The tests are straight memorization of his PowerPoint with a few basic elements of the plots. ALWAYS RAISE YOUR HAND for reading in front of the class for extra credit, the legend gives 6 (sometimes double) whole points to your test grade
The KINDEST professor I have ever had in my entire life. He is such a sweet, entertaining prof. The class is entertaining and not too bad. The class is based on 3 exams and 1 10 page paper (which is not as bad as it seems as long as you start it early). Each grade is worth 25%. Raise your hand to speak to earn 6 points added to your exam grades!
His tests were pretty specific, so heavily based on memorization, but he gave lots of extra credit opportunities, and he ended up rounding my grade up to an A even though I was a few points off. I read all the plays and wouldn't have gotten an A without the rounding, but if you put in some memory work, it's not too bad.
Best professor I've had at UNC. Kable is the GOAT. The class is 3 tests and one 10 page paper, but it's really not that bad, you have the entire semester to do it. Raise your hand to read in front of the class when he asks because he will add 6 points of extra credit to your next test. He even rounded up my A- to an A.
One of my favorite professors. I've taken two classes with him, and always find him passionate about the material and kind to his students. Your attendance might affect your grade if it's really bad, but it isn't a huge concern. I've never gotten below an A on one of his papers. Definitely recommend!
An easy, yet eye opening class. Make sure to participate as much as you can, as that and 3 papers are your only grades. Papers are weighted heavily, but graded fairly easily. You will be reading a lot of plays. Ultimately a caring, funny, and nice, lovely prof.
Prof Kable is so passionate about this class, and that definitely shines through in the lectures. We got to watch so many musical numbers, so this was such a fun class. Graded by participation and 3 papers. Although heavily weighted, are graded fairly easily.
Professor Kable is amazing! His lectures were engaging and he is very charismatic. He is understanding and easy to access outside of class. Attendance is not fully mandatory but definitely go to class because things he says in lectures are what's on the quiz. The class is an easy A if you pay attention.
If you read the plays and show up to class, you will do just fine. He will randomly give out extra credit for just showing up to class, so make sure you go. Greg is funny, caring, and helpful. There is a long paper, 9-10 pages single spaced, but it is not bad if you space it out.
I liked professor Kables class. I took this Gen Ed for my LA credit and also NA credit. Only graded on 4 things. Test 1 and 2, a course journal paper on which he was super lenient. Study for the tests but he gives so many opportunities for extra credit. This is a super easy class. he is super sweet and cares a lot. Take this class if you can!
Only four grades in the class and each are 25% (2 midterms, final, and a course journal) so you need to do well on everything to get a decent grade. TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT, make sure to read in front of the class for extra points on the exam it helps a lot. Exams are mostly memorization and making sure you read the plays.
Final grade is based on a 10-page course journal, 2 exams, and the final. exams were mainly memorization based, and the course journal wasn't particularly hard, just tedious -- keep up with it and it's fine. Greg gives a COPIOUS amount of extra credit, so if you show up with the play skimmed and participate once per unit, you're set. I adore him
The class had 1 midterm and 1 final that were structured the same. Also, the ten-page paper is graded very generously. There are assigned readings but as long as you go to class and pay attention, the midterms are really easy. The readings are pretty interesting but lectures can be boring. Overall great professor and highly recommend taking it.
One of the best classes I have taken at UNC. The plays are interesting and Prof Kable's explanations are great. The class is graded on one midterm, one final, and one course project. Participation in class makes a huge difference so make sure you show up and interact a few times per class and you should be good. A really easy and fun class overall!
I adore Prof Kable! He is so kind and makes every student feel valued, welcome, and comfortable in class. His passion for the subject material shines and makes the class engaging. This class was never stressful, but I was introduced to a lot of plays and learned a lot. The class was graded on 3 papers, but they were interesting and not difficult.
Kable is really sweet and kind and always brought a relaxed energy to the class. The exams were ridiculously easy and the paper was a lot of work, but graded leniently. I thought his lectures were interesting and provided a different viewpoint on understanding story. Classroom atmosphere was chill too. Great class for any level of experience.
Professor Kable's class was engaging and so fun! The class was set up sort of as a dialogue; most days we would read plays or watch clips and both the class and Prof Kable would make comments about the material. His comments were always so insightful and he always reacted very positively to students' ideas. I never felt afraid to raise my hand.
Gregory Kable was so fun and very passionate about what he teaches. I enjoyed going to this class every meeting. The class was not hard at all, with 4 reflections being spread throughout the semester. As long as you do the work and show you're interested in class, I think it's an easy A.
Kable is a great professor, and this class is a fun way to be introduced to a variety of plays. The course journal is a pretty long assignment, but the writing is easy as long as you start early. Would definitely recommend for FC-AESTH.
Nice guy, I really like prof. Kable. There are 3 tests throughout the semester, study the tests for real or you're not gonna get a good grade. Don't listen to those guys whoever says it's easy. Tests are pretty detailed, if you don't pay attention and study hard for the tests, you're gonna mess up your GPA fr.
DO NOT take this class. Three exams each worth 25% and they are difficult. YOU NEED TO READ 10 PLAYS. There are too many people raising hands for extra credits and you will NOT likely get any.
He was a great professor. Understanding about students not always reading the plays in time for lecture, and gave lots of opportunities for extra credit. If you actually just read the plays and come to lecture its a very easy A.
This class was super easy, you read 8 plays but I never read any of them outside of class and I did fine because all the class time is devoted to students reading the script. The class is based on a midterm, course project, final, and participation. He won't cold call so ss long as you show up occasionally and pay attention you'll be fine. Love him
I have taken 3 courses with Kable and I love having him as my professor. He is an amazing person whose passion permeates into his lectures and care for students. It is important to read the plays and pay attention to lectures; while the courses are extremely easy, some stuff will appear on the final!
Professor Kable is the sweetest guy ever. He offers so much extra credit, all you have to do is read a play for at most 5 minutes once per unit. There's two midterms, a 10 page journal, and the final exam. Since it's graded on four things, it's definitely harder to bring your grade up from one bad grade.
Gregory Kable is the funniest man ever. The exams and singular journal assignment make up your entire curse grade. Just study for the exams and everyone gets a 100 on the journal as long as you do it. Plus, he gives out so much extra credit. Sit in the front of the class, Kable is friendly and will soon know you by name.
the only grades are participation, midterm, final, and one project. he is a very kind man who is clearly very passionate about the subject matter. also, when students answer questions incorrectly, he doesn't try to embarrass them or anything like that. lots of reading, but he provides pdfs, and class is mostly re-reading the plays aloud&discussing
Kable is incredible! Not only is he passionate about what he teaches, but he also cares about his students. Get ready to participate in class discussions and read lots of plays! There are only 4 grades in the class(participation, midterm, 10-page analysis paper, and final exam) so pay attention and participate!
Grade in the course is determined by participation, two non-cumulative tests, and a 10 page course project. He provides free pdfs for all readings and all assignments are fair. Overall, a great teacher that provides an engaging introduction to the drama department's offerings.
I just want to remind all of you this is NOT an easy class!!! 10 plays in a semester and 3 exams each worths 25% make this class difficult. You have to READ and look really carefully to remember his every PowerPoint to get an A. But I would say it's easy to get above B in this class because of the extra credits.
This is the easiest class I have ever taken at UNC and Professor Kable is so nice. There is 3 essays and a essay-style final. You are graded on participation, so you have to participate and go to class if you want an A. I found the class interesting and somewhat of a "brain break" from my other classes because we just watch clips from musicals.
Really nice professor but the exams are HARD!
Great professor, it's just tests are hard af. Unless you're a drama major or super interested in the topic and are willing to read and memorize all the plays, I say brother ya gotta chill out. Nonetheless, the 10-page long journal is basically a free A.
I would die for this man. He is the nicest professor I have ever had. If you slightly pay attention in class and know the general plot of the plays and vocab you will get an A on the exams. Participants have many opportunities for extra credit through reading and answering mundane questions. Course journal is a free 100! He is very accommodating.
I love Kable so much! He is very passionate about what he teaches and is a kind grader. We watched clips from musicals every single class period which was super fun. There are 3 regular papers and a final paper. Make sure to participate in class!
He is such a fun professor, I really very truly enjoyed this class! If you participate, he gives so much extra credit. So many people would ignore him when he asked for volunteers so I volunteered a ton, and I ended up having 32 points of extra credit on one exam lol. Only graded by four things, 2 exams, course journal, and a final but not bad.
Kable is an absolute sweetheart. His class is great, but few people show up to his lectures. There are 3 tests and one mid-term project that each makes up 25% of your overall grade. If you show up and try your best, he makes sure you get the grade you deserve. He even rounded up my 87 (B+) to a 91 (A-) at the end of the semester! :)
Took this class over the summer asynch. It was so easy. Class consisted of five voicethread clips that were easy to complete, 2 short papers that were fun, and a final "mixtape" paper. Prof Kable grades VERY EASY (literally got 100s on everything). Just follow the prompts and meet the requirements.
Probably the least intensive class I've taken at UNC and it was pretty interesting! The course (took it async during summer) is online and there are multiple video assignments that are reflections, along with a few 3-4 pg papers. As long as you answer the prompt and do the video reflections, you get 100s. Prof. Kable is kind, passionate & lenient!
I took this asynchronous class over the summer. It included five Voicethread clips, two papers, and a final paper. Professor Kable grades very leniently! The Voicethreads involved recording short videos answering questions about musical clips. The final paper was more like a list with short descriptions. Follow the prompts for an easy 100.
Kable's class is fun, with plenty of extra credit opportunities. Just show up, participate, and use tools like Unstuck ai to ace the exams. The workload is manageable if you put in the effort.
This is the most wonderful man alive. He is so sweet and such an easy grader. There's barely any work at all, and almost everything assigned outside of class is fully covered inside class as well. If you are taking this class as a drama student or just for gen ed, Kable is the best way for you to go.
Okay, so I skipped class three weeks in a row and got 66 on my first exam but I managed to bounce back and get straight 100's and extra credit. The professor is a little boring but DRAM 115 is totally a GPA buffer if you actually have the willpower to show up to class.
Amazing professor!! Read lots of plays but if you stay on top of the work then you're fine. Only had three journal entries to write and they were just diary style on your opinions of the play. No midterm, no final! For group project you act out a scene from a play - but it's low stakes and as long as you commit, you'll get a good grade. Take this!!
Kable is an amazing professor who only wants his students to succeed and learn about Drama. The class is based on 3 assignments, each worth 30%, and participation is 10%. Get ready to read a lot of plays but he makes it fun and grades pretty easily.
I will ALWAYS recommend prof Kable. Ample opportunities for participation, and tries to make lectures as engaging as possible, even though it may be difficult for some because of content. Easy grader and passionate about the subject.
I would die for this man.
Favorite professor ever! He was so kind, caring, and passionate about the subject. As long as you participate, the class is very easy, and you will get a good grade -- it helps if you actually enjoy theatre. His class was a delight every day and I would love to take another class by him in the future.
While participation isn't required its so much easier to comprehend if you go to class. There are two exams and one 8-page paper total with no other homework. Be careful to look out for smaller details before exams, but overall the class is wonderful and I would take it again.
DRAM120 was the perfect AES focus capacity. The whole class is graded on two exams, an 8-page paper, and 10% participation. As long as you show up to class and read parts/answer questions occasionally, you'll be good. He chose really interesting plays, and I got good scores on the tests without doing much reading outside of class time. Loved Kable!
Took this class fully asynchronous over the summer. Take it! I learned a lot about American musicals. Kable is a very fast and lenient grader.
I am taking as many classes as I can with him. He is absolutely amazing and one of my favorite professors.
He's just the best. I've taken him twice now and he's so smart and cares so much about his classes. I hear rumors he's retiring soon so take a class with him while you still can.
Kable is such an amazing professor! You'll read a lot of plays, but as long as you show up to class, occasionally participate, and think about the material, it's an easy A. He's a generous grader and clearly knows a ton about the subject material. Take any and all of his classes!!
IF YOU ARE A FIRST YEAR HONORS STUDENT TAKE THIS CLASS!! super duper easy to get an A - literally just show up, submit the 3 assignments (only 3.), and give an ounce of effort when you do your scene panel. in class we just watched movies and read aloud scenes and chatted, but most ppl were just doing homework from other classes. highly recommend!
Class was very straight forward and very fun! I enjoyed his class a lot during this semester, as it is basically watching musicals based on the era we were learning about! I highly recommend taking this course as it is an easy A.
This class was probably the easiest I've ever taken, and Dr. Kable is so funny, caring, and supportive. Literally 75% of your grade comes from three journal entries that he grades super leniently on. The rest is participation and one "scene panel" that is a really simple acting project.
