Very difficult but rewarding class. Kilcup is rather eccentric in the way he goes about teaching; he jumps right into examples rather than giving a lot of explanation beforehand, but I found this helpful given the difficulty of the homework. Grading is fair for the most part.
Kilcup is one interesting dude! The course was very tough, but also very rewarding. Dr. Kilcup for the most part was very helpful and concerned about his student's performances. If you had a question, he tried his best to answer it. But you had to work in this class-it isn't a walk in the park.
I don't like Kilcup as a teacher, but as a person he isn't bad. Take a ride on the Rambling Railroad, if you pass go collect $200.
really good teacher
Professor Kilcup is great. He can be a little bit hard to understand at times (he thinks faster than he can talk and it throws him off) but he is easily the most helpful professor I've ever had. I regularly see him stay after class answering questions for hours, outside of office hours. I highly recommend him, he's a great professor.
Kilcup is a very good teacher. It is clear that he knows and understands everything he teaches. However, he can be very hard to understand in one on one sessions. One piece of advice is to ask him any question you have. Even if its on a test, kilcup would rather you succeed than have the class kill you. P.s-rambling railroad is right...
Coursework was difficult, expectations were above normal, but grading was very fair. Always willing to entertain questions, and always available, even for hours after class. Beware of 6 hour exams. No question is too great for the amazing Prof. Kilcup!
This isn't an introductory physics course, so you are expected to already know something about the subject. Now you must "make it your own." This isn't accomplished by a prof holding your hand. Kilcup lets you find your own way, but his genius is such that he can find your errors in thinking. You will understand, not memorize, physics.
Very smart man. Can NOT teach.
This is a tought class, expect to put in a lot of time into it each week. it is expected that you have a solid grasp of the material prior to taking this class. Dr. Kilcup is very flexible with meeting outside of class, and goes to depths to make sure you truely understand. Not too shabby overall.
I loved this prof. He was great to the extent of helping his students to fully understand the course. The grades were also fair. I really wanted to meet him again for the next two quarters. Don't get distracted by the bunches of homework he asked to do.
He's straight killin 'em in classical mechanics. Dude's a straight genius. His class is tough but he's more than willing to help you with any/all questions.
Killa Kilcup is awesome. The man is a genius and basically invented Mathematica. Is always available to help out with any questions. Homework load is a little much, but class is managable. Great Guy.
Great teacher. Helpful lectures if you stay with him. Used Mathematica a lot and used worksheets to guide you along during math sessions. Terrific guy and always willing to help with HW, which could be pretty difficult at times. The exams were significantly easier than some HW problems.
Kilcup is awesome. If you are a good student in this class, you should do alright. The biggest reason I didn't do better was because I slacked on the homework. This isn't introductory physics, and some of the material is difficult to get at first. Kilcup is great at teaching you how to think critically and how to analyze problems properly.
Great guy and is very helpful. The class is intense and nearly impossible to understand completely.
Kilcup is awesome! Class can be very difficult, but he is a genius and is always willing to help on homework.
Kilcup is the most dedicated teacher I've ever had. The material is hard on purpose but the tests are graded generously and you have a lot of leeway and bonus credit with the homework. He doesn't so much lecture about physics concepts as he does about the mathematical methods of physics. He enjoys helping and has unending patience.
Great person & best explainer I have ever had. Spend 45 minutes with him (which he will do without hesitation) and you will completely understand any topic. Like someone else said- you will understand physics, not memorize it. He also taught me universal strategies for attacking problems. Homework is a lot, but physics requires practice.
Very hard class but Kilcup is an amazing teacher. He is extremely dedicated to his students and spends hours of his free time helping people one-on-one
Amazing Professor. Probably the smartest man I have ever met. Rigorous course, but you will learn to truly analyze problems instead of just marching through them. Assigns on average 9 homework problems a week, and you will spend at least 9 hours a week working on the problems. Midterms will seem brutal, but you won't do bad if you put in the time.
Absolutely wonderful. The lectures are helpful but not always completely clear, but he is always willing to explain it to you until you understand completely. If you put in effort and ask him for help when you need it you will do well. One of the best professors I have ever had.
Dr. Kilcup is one of the best educators I have ever met. Lectures are good introductions to new material, but working on the extensive homework sets is where the real learning happens. Dr. Kilcup is extremely dedicated to his students. Getting help from him in the physics lounge will help you really learn new material.
He only goes over the most basic example problems in lecture, never teaches beyond that, never answers email, tells terrible jokes, and goes on long useless rants when you ask him questions (sometimes he answers the question too). Get ready to teach yourself everything because lecture is useless and the homework is hard.
Be prepared to learn the material on your own. He goes over the most basic sample problems in the lecture and the rest you have to learn on your own through the homework. The tests are extremely difficult. This class killed a little piece of my soul.
Simply put, Kilcup is an amazing teacher who cares about his students. He is often in the physics lounge and goes out of his way to help students. Some of the material may be confusing at first, but after talking to Kilcup, you will understand it perfectly.
Really helpful out of class.
Professor Kilcup's class is awful. Lectures are practically worthless, he will only cover extremely basic examples or go off on some unrelated tangent. Be ready to not understand what he is talking about. I have yet to meet a physics major of any level here who enjoyed this class. Don't be fooled by good reviews of him on here, they are outliers.
One of the greatest problems in this class is that a lot of students absolutely refuse to go to extra study sessions which Professor Kilcup graciously (not sarcastic) spends hours of his time helping his students with the extremely difficult homework. I guarantee that this will be one of the hardest classes you take, but it is not hard to get A's.
Professor Kilcup is awesome. He's not great at lecturing but he's so good at teaching, and will genuinely want you to learn the material. I have not had a professor like this until this day that cares this much. Truly and exception and smart man, I highly recommend taking this class with him. It is hard however, I have just worked hard nonstop.
All-in-all, Kilcup's class is about problem solving. His lectures aren't great, but he spends multiple nights every week in the lounge answering questions for and helping with concepts. Great guy and great teacher. The class was stressful and extremely difficult, but I've come out a better physicist, and that's thanks to Kilcup.
this teacher uses the old way, and not clearly show us the way to do. He just simply explained the homework and did nothing better
This class with this professor killed my passion for my major. Lecture is useless; he either spends time giving partial solutions to homework or going off on some unrelated tangent. Going to office hours is incredibly unhelpful, and I emailed him my struggles and he told me essentially to figure it out myself.
Best professor I've had at Ohio State. Class truly teaches you to problem solve by working at needlessly hard homework with all your classmates in the lounge. Completely different from most classes in a good way. When it comes to actually 1 on 1 teaching no one can touch Kilcup's explanations.
Literally a great person all around. He's super friendly, and cares about all of his students. Only small complaint is that the man is a genius, and sometimes doesn't realize that the complex math and physics we constantly do in class may be easy for him, but not your average person.
I would've failed 2300 with any other professor. He is very concise, clear, and connects material to real life. He is very available as he is in the lounge almost every day. When asked a question, he often inspires you to reach the answer on your own. This is the hardest class I've taken but the best instructor.
Fall 18. 2 assignments a week. Expected students bring a laptop to learn Mathematica. Homework is difficult and long. Seems to care about students. Lecture taught me nothing. Book is too dense to understand. PDF is free, but I can't drag my desktop to ask questions or do Mathematica in class. Massive curve got me to pass without getting half of it.
Without a doubt the worst professor ive ever had. Lectures are just rambling about random homework problems. Hes always available for help but if you try to ask him a question he only recites whats in the textbook and then keeps rambling about homework problems. Be ready to teach yourself literally all of the material.
Prof Kilcup is a great lecturer and explains the material very well. The midterms and final are definitely the hardest tests I've had to take so far, but if you put in the work and stick through till the end you will pass.
Probably the least structured class I've ever taken. Going to lecture was actually worth it maybe 40% of the time. He cares, he really does, but the class just makes no sense the way he explains it. In 2300, I never did the Mathematica work, got a C in Carmen, my final grade was a B+. I really don't know what grade to expect in 2301
About 40% curve for the class. Hard topics, book is dense, lecture is useless. I did almost none of the homework since I didn't know how to do them. Never got above F on a test. I didn't learn mathamatica because I didn't have a laptop to bring to class. Watching classmates work or text didn't teach it to me.
Kilcup's class (2300 and 2301) made me fall in love with physics. This class is sink or swim: you need to be willing to learn to read a physics textbook to understand it. The days of being spoon-fed concepts are over. Kilcup is incredibly helpful once you've done the work of studying the material on your own.
The class 2300 is quite difficult. I learn best in the lecture and examples dynamic of a classroom, however he posts youtube videos of his 'notes' and does tophat questions in class. Most of the learning is done outside the classroom, and the homework and tests are very difficult. TA's are very slow to grade the HW's too.
I have slightly mixed feelings for this professor. The homework assignments are very difficult and worth a large portion of the grade, but he is available outside of class, grades fairly, and encourages collaboration in the physics lounge. Lectures are of little use when it comes to learning material, so be ready to teach yourself a good bit.
He has us use an app and guess random physics questions instead of teach. If he does, it's some mumbling regarding the most basic example with nothing ever fully solved, but the exam questions themselves are brutally hard! Demands you write an essay explaining every problem and penalizes you even if everything is perfect otherwise. Egregious prof.
He is nice, but being nice is not enough to be a good teacher. He attempts to use modern ways to teach his students by having them collaborate with each other in class and post lecture videos online, but it is executed horribly. He wastes a lot of time in class and his videos often focus too much on only a portion of the current topic.
This class is a lot of work. But if you put in efforts and go to office hours, you will get a good grade. Dr. Kilcup is extremely generous about his time. He spends so many hours in office hours and group meetings to help students. I really appreciate it. Take less than 17 credit hours if you are taking this class.
Dr. Kilcup possesses a wealth of knowledge like no other, however this only serves to exacerbate the frustration when he almost refuses to simply lecture; to teach even. He is too far removed from reality to realize that we haven't the physical intuition that he has. Go to class, participate, read the book, go to office hours, get TA help.
Homework was incredibly difficult, I spent 10+ hours weekly on assignments. He does not teach, but rather does practice problems in hopes we learn from those. Quizzes and exams were very difficult, mostly because we did not have enough time at all. He spent 3 hours daily helping students in the homework lounge, which was appreciated.
The man is a genius. The problem is we are not. He has outrageous expectations for how much time we are supposed to spend doing his classwork. Expect 10 hours a week or more if you want to pass the class, double or triple that if you actually want to get a good grade. You can't fail this class unless you do nothing. Guaranteed C+ for minimal effort
This is a very frustrating class at times. There is a large amount of difficult homework, but Dr. Kilcup is available nearly everyday to discuss any questions you might have. The big problem I have with this class is the group work. As far as I am aware, absent group members are given the same grade as the ones who contribute. You will be alone.
Unreachable. His method of "giving feedback" surpasses total incompetency as he consistently falls back onto one of his recyclable quotes such as "nonsense" or "it seems you have completely missed the point". Frankly, I have never had a professor so unwilling to tackle the responsibilities that come with teaching besides showing up to lecture.
Kilcup does spend more than enough time within group homework projects and will occasionally help you through the full process of arriving at the end result. As far as cons, he's not very accessible outside of class (I sent multiple emails requesting external help all of which have remained unanswered). He often insults students on the homeworks.
Professor Kilcup definitely knows what he's talking about, but often times it feels as if I don't. Most of his teaching is done outside of class in youtube videos he has made, and this particular vehicle for transferring information didn't work well for me. He is the only professor for 2300-01, but his methods make it hard to be enthusiastic.
Every email I have ever sent him, in both 2300 and 2301, went unanswered. Expect a ridiculous amount of homework, group assignments, and quizzes. Also his "lectures" aren't much more than re-voting on the same three questions on TopHat for an hour. Worst implementation of active learning I've seen. Only upside is the ridiculous curve he gives.
His fav statements: its clear where we got this number and you mightve made a sign error somewhere; its in fact NOT clear where we got the number and he NEVER explains how to correct sign errors. If his lectures were in person instead of recorded, these may have been easily remedied. He is smart, but clearly doesnt know how to teach.
I'm always confusing what he was talking about on lectures. Quizzes and finals are EXTREMELY horrible. Since he is the only one who teaches the courses, you are not probably avoid him. Be prepare to study tons of hours weekly and find that you learn nothing in the exams.
Dr. Kilcup cares deeply for his student's success. He is available for hours after lectures in the homework lounge and gives detailed answer keys to all homework and tests. His exams are brutal, but if you work hard there is no way that you can fail. It also helps Kilcup is a genius but friendly enough to approach. Work hard and go to office hours.
He clearly knows what he is talking about in class. However, he expects you to already know and have mastered most of the material. This "class" is more of a giant knowledge check than a real class. You get taught 10% of what you need to know and if you aren't solid on everything already then be prepared to spend most of your free time studying.
As a human being & lecturer he is amazing. An extremely important thing to note however, is that Kilcup uses the flipped classroom format, so be prepared to spend SEVERAL hours a week outside of class watching lectures. He is incredibly talented but because of this can be hard to keep up with at times. Always do your homework and you should pass
Hardest class I've taken, and I'm doing it again in 2301. Very difficult, but: lots of partial credit, many (5+) TAs for the class to help, Kilcup is very accessible, you're assigned a group to work with, & everyone (TAs, Kilcup, upperclass phys students, etc.) understand it's hard. Behaves more like a 6 credit hour class, NOT FOUR. (20 hr. hw/wk)
You get out strictly what you put in. Most of the learning is done outside of class, but Kilcup and the TAs are always available. Kilcup is a genius and there is a lot to learn from him, but his answers are indirect and make you think a lot. I learned so much from this class, but be prepared to do 10-14 hours hw/week. Count as 6 hr class, very hard
Lectures are absolutely useless, and quizzes are impossible. Why do we use TopHat for 30 minutes to go over Python programming language and waste time looking at random machines when the actual knowledge required to pass the course isn't covered???
Seems like a great guy but is horrible at teaching an introductory level physics class. He never had slides prepared so it was difficult to follow what was going on and he explaining things as if we already had a good understanding of the topics. Also, the lecture, group work, labs, and weekly quizzes never covered the same content.
The averages on his exams were about 10% lower than the other professor (Brian Skinner), who was awesome. He did not explain concepts well, and would not give practice problems. I recommend finding other sources to learn the material (not the book, it is useless). Brian Skinner posted lectures online, so try to use those.
Professor Kilcup was very rude, unhelpful, and seemed completely disinterested in teaching. I had to learn the material completely on my own, without going to class, as did most other students because his lectures were so disjointed, and unproductive. I think that what I experienced in this course is a terrible way to treat students.
I would not even bother attending lecture for Kilcup. You will have 2 minutes of a lead in video covering the topic of the day. Then 5 minutes of banter. The remainder of the class you will do Top Hat questions. Zero examples and he writes nothing down so his lecture notes are worthless.
Stay away from Kilcup, go to Brian Skinner's lectures.
Lectures were pretty useless, I only read the textbook and later read Dr. Skinner's notes. He makes the quizzes, and the averages are appalling. Exams aren't bad. Homework can be lengthy and they will help you in any way they can. If you are in his section, I encourage skipping the lecture and reading Dr. Skinner's notes instead.
While Dr. Kilcup is indeed a nice person, and knows a lot about the concepts in his class, from my experience, he was not the best at teaching them. It was better to skip his lectures and just read the provided textbook. Exams were hard and required a very deep understanding of concepts that he just touched briefly in class.
Unique in his ability to make his lectures provide the body with extreme amounts of melatonin.
Lectures were pretty boring and not very useful. He knows what he's talking about but doesn't do a good job of actually teaching it. Weekly quizzes can be pretty difficult at times but the midterms and final were pretty reasonable and you can easily score well as long as you dedicate a decent amount of time to studying and doing practice problems.
He does not teach well. He expects you to know the concepts before hand, and then during lecture he doesn't solve problems all the way through, often times skipping important steps. He drones on in lecture and he never adjusts his mic so people can hear properly. I would recommend to do homework in lecture and then study on your own.
I like how he explained physics in a mathematical way. He is also nice person, always show up in his office hour Although his lecture can sometimes be tedious, typically a video and concept explanation and some top hat questions. I will try to read the text books before class and come to his office hour to get a good understanding.
He is a very nice person, but I don't think he's the best at teaching. I had to teach myself everything in this class. Also, Dr. Skinner's slides were useful.
Professor Kilcup is indeed very intelligent. However, when it comes to teaching, he is not the best. It is best to read the textbook than to go to his lectures, and the tests are graded very hard. I believe 1 multiple choice question on the midterm was worth 20 percent of the test. Try to avoid this professor of you can.
I'm currently in his Physics 1250 class. It's hard for me to critique him a lot because he seems like a genuine and nice guy. But, I have heard from others, and learned from personal experience, that his lectures are pretty useless. He dumps a bunch of stuff from the textbook in lecture slides but doesn't actually fully teach the material.
Extremely boring and melatonin inducing professor. He is addicted to top hat questions which he takes for your attendance and he doesn't do too many practice problems during his lectures. Instead, the time that he could be doing practice problems is filled with the time used by useless top hat questions.
Does not give any examples with helpful instruction. Top hat runs the class and he is unable to explain any questions clearly. Switch out while you still can.
I kinda like him. He's a very chill and humorous guy. He replies to emails frequently and usually within 12 hours during weekdays. The whole class was not very difficult, the examples he gave in the class were enough to do well on the exams.
Really smart guy but I couldn't learn anything from him after the second week. Be prepared for online HW to take 3-6 hrs a week and extra work given. Midterms multiple choice are worth a lot of points. Be ready to teach yourself everything unless you took some AP physics in high school. Takes attendance with Tophat questions unrelated to tests orHW
Does not teach well at all, only reads off lecture slides. This is a tough course with lots of math around it, so its surprising that he does not ever work out any questions within the units. Does loads of TopHats with each lecture, and does not even explain how to do the questions and just moves on. You will have and must teach yourself everything
He is very bad at teaching, he never does practice problems and just reads off slides The top hats he does is just for participation and he does so much he ends up forgetting the point of the lecture that day You will have and must teach yourself everything
He is so slow when he is teaching and he does not know how to convey and explain any concepts. Please if you can, do not take this teacher, he keeps bragging about how he's friends with Bill Gates and not caring about teaching us physics. You have to teach yourself everything.
He does not care for the students that he teaches and does not explain concepts well at all.
Dr. Kilcup is an incredibly smart man however he does not convey this into his lectures. He talks about inconclusive items that have no correlation to the concept being taught and is overall a waste of time. Lectures feel like they are dragging. While he is a great guy I would not recommend taking a course taught by him as you will feel lost.
He's a horrible lecturer. Explains the easiest concepts in the most convoluted way. Wastes a third of the class time by getting sidetracked on stuff. If you take him, be prepared to put all your time into self learning.
I took 1250 with Dr Kilcup and enjoyed his lectures, he seems like a fun person and when you talk to him, he is always eager to help. I think he is far too smart to be teaching introductory physics so concepts that should be fairly straight forward tend to get complicated more than they need to be. If you don't have a good grasp on calc good luck.
Definitely knows the content, but has no idea how to teach
He can not reach. Nothing ever makes sense. Don't take his section if at all possible.
sucked with his lectures, only reason I passed was my bc of my TA
DO NOT TAKE PHYSICS AT OSU!! Take over the summer. He is the worst professor I have ever had and does not answer questions when you ask. The lab TAs are also not good and the labs themselves are very hard. There are quizzes every week where the multiple choice questions are 8 pts each. Please do not tank your GPA
I wish I could rate lower.
I wouldn't recommend this professor to even my worst enemy. No idea at all how to teach.
Nice guy but doesn't teach the material well. Felt like we had equations and formulas thrown at us then not really taught how to apply them in a problem. Course design in general does not help prepare students for exams and quizzes.
Choose this professor if you want to teach everything to yourself. Lectures are useless and exams are super difficult. TAs, on the other hand, teach so much better and are super helpful though.
Intelligent but can't teach introductory physics to students who haven't experienced the material yet. His tests are nightmare fuel, and I have seen many smart/gifted students struggle to get an A in this class. If you get him for this class, change professors. If you cannot change, don't bother going to his class and teach yourself the material.
Genuinely have nothing kind to say about this guy. One time he spent 45 minutes of our 55 minute class talking about his cats and wife. Moral of the story? avoid at all costs. If your options are him or wait til next semester? Wait til next semester. Need it for a prereq? Take 1250 at CState. I'm so serious, DO!! NOT!! TAKE!! HIS!! CLASS!!!!!!!!
Honest depiction of the lectures: starts with a video, too many top hat questions, and speeds through the important stuff at the last couple minutes. Does not teach content to students well at all. Please do not take his class at all costs since you are basically going to be self taught if you take his class.
Please do not take this person's classes. This is the worst and most difficult course I've taken at OSU. It destroyed my slight liking for physics
Please do not take his class. Although most the physics professors at OSU are bad for the introductory level series, Kilcup is likely the worst. He does not actually teach and I find him to make concepts more confusing then they actually are. Please do not take his class. If you do, expect to read the textbook by your self to even have a chance
Do not take Kilcup. I studied so hard and spent so much more time studying than for any of my other classes just to get a B+. Despite being very intelligent, he does not know how to teach. Lectures are a waste of time and you are forced to teach yourself. There aren't enough practice exams or problems provided to study. It is very hard to do well.
Honestly either avoid him at all costs or accept that the highest grade you'll get is a B. Kilcup does not explain concepts clearly in lecture and instead uses this time to babble about what he is doing outside of class. I would recommend reading the textbook, using youtube, and talking to your TA to supplement the awful lectures.
He rambled on and on, without ever teaching. He always seems confused. He asks for feedback, was told that doing examples in class would help our understanding, then he just said "no I don't think that would help". Lectures are useless but mandatory. Take anyone else. ANYONE. It makes me feel like I'm wasting money to go.
Please do not take this class, especially if you haven't taken physics before. You will need to teach yourself the material and will not be able to skip lecture.
The only good things I can say about Dr. Kilcup are that he is a nice guy and that he is very accessible outside of class. Other than that, he does not teach anything. The TAs are okay, but they just kind of rush through helping you instead of actually reinforcing concepts. Dr. Kilcup shows a lot of effort, but he is just not meant to teach.
Nice guy but horrible at teaching. Lectures feel like a waste of time as they're just throwing equations at you and too many tophat questions. He just rambles and that's not how you learn physics. Exams are ridiculously hard too. I've learned more through Organic Chem Tutor and the online textbook they give you, but even then this class is brutal.
After taking the 2nd midterm for this class I just wanted to rant on how horrible of a professor Kilcup is, he honestly shouldn't be teaching any class, every quiz and midterm is harder than anything he's ever taught, pls never ever take physics with him, you will honestly not get an A in this class if ur the average student, if ur gifted, lucky u.
Scrolling Tiktok might be more productive than going to Gregory Kilcup's lectures. He vaguely explains concepts in class, refuses to do example problems, and often goes on tangents. It honestly sucks seeing someone as down-to-earth as him be such a poor teacher.
I honestly don't even know how this guy is allowed to teach this class after how much people fail the quizzes and midterms. Kilcup loves Tophat, and when a majority gets the wrnog answer he doesn't explain at all and moves on. This guy can't even answer questions in the class. So cooked if you are in this class.
Does not teach
Incompetent
Do not take his class. Attendance is graded through your percentage of TopHat questions answered, yet they're not consistent, so some classes will only have 3-4, and others will have 8+. Expect to teach yourself everything. I went to lectures for the grade, but I'd have to teach myself the material. His slides weren't even helpful.
Kilcup is one of the worst professors I've had the displeasure of being "educated" by. Not only are his lectures impossible to follow, but half of the busy work he has us do isn't in the equation sheets or any other of the resources. Kilcup is an awful educator and a real hit on motivation.
Exams given by the physics department barely had any relation to homework and quizzes. Kilcup said the first week of class that we didn't need to use the textbook at all, but significant topics not covered in the lecture (but were in the textbook) showed up on the quizzes and exams.
Professor Kilcup seems like a good guy and he is very intelligent as well, but he CANNOT teach. His lectures are just him reading the slides and essentially just talking to himself. I did well but had to work with my TA a lot. While he brings good energy to the lectures, he CANNOT teach others. It just makes this class so brutal. Do not take.
Professor Kilcup is a good guy, and he's smart, but this dude sucks. His lectures were just reading off the slides. I did well because I've taken AP Physics in HS, but if you just started physics, this would've been brutal. He brings good energy to the lectures, but he CANNOT teach for squat. Don't take this guy if you have the opportunity.
He honestly seems like a nice guy however he isn't very good at teaching--at all. Don't expect any practice problems in class, instead you get a demonstration relating to the concept and some commentary on it. Usually they display the concept you are talking about, but fail to provide much help in answering questions on the exams.
A nice guy but not the best lecturer, often goes off topic and does not explain concepts very well. You are better off reading trough the textbook than going to class. Exams are not too bad just be sure to work through the practice exams and quizzes provided. Try to get a different professor if at all possible.
The entire structure of this class is poorly planned overall. Only the surface of the topics was covered, and the professor never went into enough depth for me to understand them. To pass the class, I had to pay for an on-campus tutor. By only meeting with the tutor once a week, I learned 10x more in a session than I did in a full week of lectures.
The best advice I can give you is to not show up. By that I mean find out when the other professors who teach this class lecture, and attend those classes to learn. Then login to tophat and fill out the attendance questions from your dorm room or library. Every time I showed up to his lectures I left felling more confused that I was entering.
this nga don't know nun abt physics
He is intelligent but doesn't know how to teach. Exams have material that were not even in his lectures. If you get him, change professors immediately to ANYONE else before it's too late. If you cannot change, do not bother going to class and teach yourself the material or go to another physics professor's lecture.
Kilcup cannot teach or answer any questions. Lectures consist of weak demonstrations, assigning top hat questions that are never explained, and rushing through actual content in the last 5 minutes. Tests are simple enough if you dedicate a good amount of time to practicing and studying content from other teachers. Prepare to self-study.
I would literally never go out of my way to write a review, but genuinely avoid this man. He is smart but doesn't know how to teach to people who have never learned it.
Though I ended off with a B+ I would say it was very difficult doing that on my own since literally Kilcup couldn't teach anything like nothing, pls avoid him at all costs, getting a B is very hard if you don't lock in on youtube videos and practice problems
Get a study group ASAP. If you can avoid Kilcup, avoid Kilcup. If not? Study. The Quizzes are ahead of what you learn, the labs are behind what you learn. Learn how to show your work.
