Dr. Klages is an excellent professor, but make sure you are in class and do your readings! Additionally, don't expect high marks unless you really produce high quality work.
Has a vast amount of knowledge in the area of ethics. Explains concepts well. Does get carried away with examples. Do your readings before class. In addition to this he is a hard marker and has high expectation of the class. You better but in some high quality work or else you will be sitting at a 65 - 75%
very entertaining teacher. Keeps class attentive and is very good at explaining material. He is against laptops in class which in the end is much more beneficial to students because your forced to pay attention. I know I would not understand the material if I was distracted by my laptop every class.
Dr. Klages is a good but frustrating prof. He doesn't allow any technology during lectures and will call you out on it if you are looking at your phone. However his lectures are really interesting and he does a good job of teaching the material. Reading the text before hand really helps to understand whats going on in class.
Extremely hard marker.
Greg was a decent prof but he is a very tough marker. The average on our midterms was in the low 60's . He assigns a lot of reading but in class mostly followed the textbook. It is annoying that he does not allow laptops and he does not post slides. I found it hard to keep up with what he was saying.
Always super prepared and a great speaker. Boring content, but he made it interesting. He always relates the material to actual life and everything comes together. Doesn't let you use a laptop which I hated at first but it grew on me. And he records the lectures and posts them!
He's an okay prof but a very tough grader. When you ask him for his feedback, he just asks you a bunch of questions in return. So frustrating! Assigns a lot of readings weekly, hard marker & keeps the class average low. Passionate about what he teaches but if you're not interested in these topics, I STRONGLY advise you don't take this course!
His lectures were very dry. If you did not take notes, you were set up for failure. Very hard marker, and outlines for tests and midterms were very vague and did not consist of anything from the lectures. I did not enjoy this class at all - was only taken because it was mandatory.
Klages, is one professor that made me understand the topic. He takes the time to break down the topic and expand ideas from the reading. If you skip the class you won't get the grade.
He is a okay professor. You will need to earn your grade in this class as he is a tough marker. When you ask this professor for feedback he does not give direct feedback. He will give you questions to think about as feedback which is frustrating. His class notes are not really notes just a bunch of questions.
Not a great person to listen too.. You might find yourself daydreaming but he doesn't post the slides so that's really a terrible match. His class vs other teacher's are much harder (way longer essay due very quickly, focused on material that's irrelevant to the grand scheme of things) He can TALK. talks about one thing for a very long time..
I really liked him overall! His lectures are really detailed, hes thorough. If you apply yourself on the assignments youll be good, but his final exam was really really hard. Seriously read the textbook.
This professor does not provide clear instructions. His lectures were extremely heavy. He always agreed to the fact the class he taught was new to us students. However, he did not try to make the learning experience any easier. Just a heads up to Media Students, this class is supposed to "help" your final research project in final year, it doesnt
Very interesting lectures. It is obvious he knows his content, but lectures are heavy. Doesn't post his slides online. Still has a great personality and is quite humorous in class. Expects a lot from your work and is a tough grader.
Dr. Klages is an excellent professor. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and would welcome the chance to take another course with him in future. He engages in rich discussions, keeps course content up-to-date, and tests/assignments are graded fairly. He embodies in every sense what a University professor should aspire to be.
Class content was too much. personally useless class and too many theories that will not be beneficial in the future in any way. so many readings and very long!
I appreciate profs who actually care about their students and are passionate about what they do. This course was heavy in material, waaay too theoretical, I would say 65% of it was useful and applicable to life; otherwise, he is a great prof, will get your grade back in a week, gives lots of feedback, and motivates you.
Dr. Klages is a phenomenal professor. You can tell he genuinely cares about the students in his class. His engaging class discussions will really make really make think about your life. Yes, there's a lot of reading in his classes but this is one of the classes where the things you learn will stick with you forever. Trust me.
Greg is an incredible lecturer however after the midterm although understandable that he was swamped with grading, gave students fairly low marks with little to no explanation or revisions. His exam was EXTREMELY hard and didn't include much of the course material. I even read the textbook to prepare. Disappointed that my hard work was not rewarded
I enjoyed my experience with Greg. His lecturers are very informative and energetic. This guy can teach very well. Plus he gives format example for the assignment, and rubric is easy to read. Greg is a tough grader, but I notice that while he is a tough grader for exams and the reflections, he is a fair marker for assignments. Great prof overall!
Took my first online course in Contemporary Canadian Issues with Dr. Klages and am glad I did. The outline was clear and allowed for advance preparation. Prompt with feedback. Lectures employed a variety of sources, reading, videos. Liked that we had 3 quizzes so that we did not feel overwhelmed but were able cover everything. No group work! Yay!
I didn't even do badly in his class but I have a negative association with him. Really long dry lectures, he's passionate but it doesn't make you care. Hard classes. Not very approachable, he gave a really extra speech about how to address him which comes off as self important and condescending, dude just chill you're not the Queen of England.
Dr. Klages is an awesome instructor. Even though the subject matter can be quite tame, he found ways to make it interesting. All around, he is a great presenter and I really enjoyed sitting on his lectures despite the many quizzes and labs.
Can we make this guy Professor Gregory Klages already? His lectures are fast paced and require student engagement. The text book is very dry and American, which is unfortunate because Klages has such strong lectures.
My 2nd year having Klages. He's a tough grader, you will have to work very hard to get a B. I appreciate how straight forward he is with expectations and formats for all tests/assignments. I only wish he would post slides up because the reality is sometimes you can't make it to class. Tough when you don't know anyone to get notes off of.
Greg is a nice guy, I took him for Contemporary Canadian Issues and he was great. It was an online class but it did not impact the learning experience. He would always review versions of my 10% writing responses and give me great feedback before handing them in. He graded the final exam very hard. The final research report was enjoyable to write.
Super tough on grading written assignments and papers, class average for many of the written assignments were in the low 70s. Quizzes werent too bad but they were barely worth anything. Not an interesting class unless youre into canadian history. Take a different elective if you can.
I had Professor Klages for an online summer school class and he was not good AT ALL! He did not provide us with any notes or lectures, did not explain assignments well, was delayed in answering questions, responded to questions very vaguely, and his quizzes/tests were quite hard; he would put the most random questions from the text!
I took SCMA 2040 online with Greg and it was the hardest thing I've ever done. You only get 10 minutes for his quizzes and some of his labs are hard to complete successfully. The term test was the hardest thing I ever did, he just makes up those questions. P.S: if he says he can't change anything, hes lying!!
you can tell he loves the things he's talking about, always has a lot to say and will lecture in a passionate manner. but i really struggled in his class in a way i haven't struggled with others since. he will be really picky and tough with marks, and will not post lecture online to revisit or write notes on if you were absent
Hes clearly a very smart person and a good teacher. You will definitely be challenged in his courses, its not easy to earn a good grade and you have to work for it but youll for sure learn a lot. Plus he uses real world examples that are interesting and make concepts easier to understand. Overall really liked this course and learned a lot!
This class content was extremely heavy. Too many assignments and quizzes. Got confusing trying to remember the content since it was crammed in a summer school credit.
Mr. Klages was a really hard professor! Be prepared to read a lot and do hard assignments! Terrible course!
This guy had us complete 20+ assignments/quizzes in one semester. Crazy. Tests and quizzes are still moderately hard even if you read the book. I don't believe that giving students 2-3 days to prepare for tests helps them learn. It only helps them learn to memorize. His weekly labs are ridiculous and worth too little for the amount of work done.
Great professor if this is his class is the only class you take in one semester. Write more essays than I wrote in all the other classes for 2 semesters.
He honestly made this course so much more difficult than it should be. His tests are extremely hard and did not provide a lot of good support/feedback on assignments (making the online course situation even worse). It would be best to change your schedule if you have him :) also you need to work super hard to even get a 70 in his class!
You will learn in his class, however he is an extremely difficult marker. If you have him, you will think all of your other classes are easy due to the amount of essays and assignments he gives. Don't even get me started with the the tests...
He is a hard marker but you should be fine if you somewhat know course material because its easy to draw on. Just pretend to be invested in alternative and advocacy media and he will like you, he is a super kind dude who is just very passionate. The final assignment is really heavy though. (Presentation, 2 essays and media piece in a group)
He had a good personality..
Will not record or post slides no matter what. My wifi wouldn't handle the lectures because I will with 5 roommates and he still wouldn't post. If you miss a lecture he will post anywhere from 6 to 10 articles that loosely hint at the concepts learned in class but you will miss a lot. good thing most of the class is common sense and Google.
Each week there was a PowerPoint presentation, an audio lecture, textbook work and a quiz or lab, or both. The second I finished the work for one week, I was already starting for the following week. The material was also really hard and difficult to understand but he tries to be accessible and answer questions.
Very knowledgable and passionate professor but he doesn't give students enough resources (doesn't post lectures or slides which is kind of ridiculous) so his class is pretty difficult to do well in. He's a hard marker on top of that as well. Good professor but really just needs to loosen up a bit. This class shouldn't be as difficult as he made it.
Does Not hold lectures or post slides. Makes you sift through a sh%t ton of usless pages that could all be consolidated into a powerpoint. Very hard to take concrete note's from his weekly postings. Very hard marker. Gives good feedback on essays.
1. he expects lots from students BUT does not provide any guidance 2. He grades with clear expectations 3. Final exam you never see his marking
The worst prof Ive had so far at GH. Didnt post lecture slides only audio files which was incredibly hard to learn from. The quizzes were difficult only had 10 min to complete. The labs were unclear and hard to accomplish he did not provide any useful guidance it felt like none of the content was on the final. I felt as if I didnt learn a thing
He marks brutally harsh in an elective course that is mainly comprised of written assessments. Run from him, he is a trap to drop your GPA. You will 100% receive marks unfairly and unjustly no matter your hard work as it is completely within his discretion. The only difficulty you will face is the prof himself and that is unacceptable.
Passionate about teaching but this course was SO unnecessarily difficult (my lowest grade??). Lectures are mandatory + he takes every single last second of scheduled time to talk, even after the lesson... Slides are not useful. Midterms were difficult, hard multiple choice. He is understanding one-on-one irl, but emails feel mean. HARD MARKER.
I have never had a more difficult and unfair professor. I have a 90 GPA and am struggling to get a 70 in this course. He is passionate about what he teaches but is a terrible marker. His feedback makes no sense and you can follow his guidelines exactly and only get a 70. Would never take this course again and every day I regretted it.
Run from him!! All he gives is essays and more essays to write for the whole course. It was supposed to be an elective and it stressed me out more than any other course. Worst experience ever as compared to all other courses where i got really good grades. This guys make it harder than it is supposed to be. Not worth it!!
If you want to pass a course do not take this class. He does not post powerpoint slides after I notified him about accommodations to allow me to have the notes. He only posts videos that he didn't make and every time I email him a question he constantly tells me to look at notes that are not posted and has never answered my question over email.
i beg you to never take this mans class. His ego is driven by how low the class average is. Be ready to write 2 medium sized essays and an 8 page essay. This course is an elective yet I have never had to work harder. This guy ruined my GPA all for his love for Canadian issues. I Can only hope you read the reviews before taking the class.
Do not take his class. I am a 90+ average student and so far I am struggling to get above a 75 in his class. Lectures are so long and boring, he literally takes the entire 3 hours to lecture which is not even useful at that point because no one even grasps information after 2 hours. Also an extremely hard grader.
RUN while you can if you appreciate your sanity this workload is insane and assignments are extremely complex and unlike any other professors' who teach this course.
THIS MAN IS EVILLLLLLLLL
Not as bad as rate my prof said. Very passionate about what he is teaching. Marks harder than usual, but it is very easy to get an 80+ if you read the rubric, instructions, and ask questions. The labs were very helpful, but not a lot of people showed up.
if you want someone who knows what they are talking about in terms of ethics in business do not take him if you want marks do not take him if you want slides so at least you can study to his liking do not take him (he will not post it) if you want anything meaningul from this prof you are learning from the wrong prof.
doesn't post slides...so you have to go to class. Super tough grader.
Give the man a chance. His teaching style is different yes but he cares, is accessible when needed and accommodates disabled students excellently. I loved dr klages and would take classes from him again
Someone said he accommodates students, but unfortunately, not with ease. Make sure you get it sorted a month prior; trust me, you will need that time to sort it out with him, considering the slow reply times and his added protocols. Unreasonable expecations, class is failing, but his standards still remain very high for someone who can't even teach.
This guys the definition of the head chola in a classroom, yaps for the whole three hours of his lecture and wants you to take notes throughout all of it. His slides aren't posted and tests are in person on paper, all this for an ethics and values in business class, If you still for whatever reason decide to choose this professor, good luck.
Does not post the lectures, does not allow you to take pictures of slides and he is a really tough grader. While does give good feedback he nitpicks at the smallest things. His lectures are beyond boring and he talks for way too long and gives minimal breaks. If u ever get him pls do ur self a favour and switch out of the class
The only redeeming qualities are that they provide you with everything you need to complete an assignment such as examples and heavily detailed instructions. Other than that, they are very strict and tough when it comes to marking, very nitpicky. If you think you did a great job on the assignment, think again and make sure to READ CAREFULLY
Just reliving my trauma from second year, thinking about you Klages. SWITCH OUT OF HIS CLASS IF YOU APPRECIATE YOUR SANITY PLEASE
This professor grades harshly for a course that should be straightforward. I had him for research methods. Slides aren't posted, so you must take notes in class. Assignments are excessively long, poorly assessed, and the fact that we had other classes was disregarded. I wouldn't recommend him.
I took EDRD. Grading instructions were unclear and professor won't answer you. I did the same format for two different assignments and was marked incorrectly for one of them. I also reached out 9 days before the final exam with questions, followed up twice, and got no response. I would not recommend this course.
Do not take him
He is extremely strict and leaves no room for flexibility. His lectures are dry and hard to follow, making the course feel more difficult than it needs to be. While he responds to emails, he sticks rigidly to policies without much consideration for students. Overall, it was not the best experience.
Greg Klages is among one of the worst professors in media studies. He provides good feedback but is the toughest marker out there. You can follow his outlines and rubrics all you want but you will never receive an 85 or higher even if you think your work is perfect your assignment that you hand in will have him writing paragraphs of complaints
one of the worst profs i've ever had in my life. does not post any lectures, is an unbelievably hard marker, takes up every second and then some for his lectures, and forces you to write so much stuff for both projects and exams. stay away at all costs if you want to keep your sanity!
AVOID AVOID AVOID. EXAM MARKS ARE WORSE THAN MATHEMATICS COURSES
he's great idk why he's getting so many bad reviews….. yes the course is content heavy but he's really not a hard marker. I didn't even really try on the group project or the written report and still got a good mark on both of them. Just follow the guidelines and he will most likely give u a decent mark. He's also accessible outside of class!
DO NOT TAKE.Thought Id be able to still power through, even tho I did, not worth the stress. Given he provides free textbooks, he has exam q's based on em just to fw the class. He is the toughest grader Ive ever had. He challenges everything and truly fits the stereotype of no one liking philosophy teachers. Save urself, even if u like the subject.
He seems kind just heavy workload
Professor doesn't post online powerpoint's and expects you to be an attentive listener all while noting everything being taught. I was unable to learn to my highest ability.
horrible in every way possible.
Everyone is rating this guy horribly low but he isn't even that bad... the reviews scared my friend and I but he gave us good marks on the assignments just obviously put some time and effort into it. Just make sure you read the rubric and try your best, he's not a crazy marker
He doesn't post his powerpoints for you to review and study, he expects you to take your own notes during his class which is just awful. When you follow his exact instructions when doing an assignment, he will grade you very harshly even though you're doing your best to follow his instructions. He says it's rare to get above 80 in his class.
passionate, but a tough marker. i have 90s in all my courses, but i'm struggling to maintain a 70. not a fan of the format of his lecture slides either (fill in the blank???). course seems interesting, but i'm more focused on passing than actually learning the content because his assignments are so lengthy and detailed :/
not a great prof. He has made it very known it is very rare to get over an 80 in his class which I find not fair. His slides are fill in the blanks so if you miss one you are screwed. I just find him overall not concerned with the students ability to do well in the class. I would NOT recommend him pls do anything you gotta do to switch out
Very hard professor and very strong marker
Trying to book an appointment with him is genuinely more frustrating than it needs to be and he barely cares if you're struggling in the course. His course is outlined horribly and get ready for this course to take away time from your other courses. Avoid like the plague.
SUPER HARD GRADER ITS ANNOYING AND GET READY FOR HIS ASSIGNMENTS TO TAKE ALL UR TIME AWAY FROM UR OTHER CLASSES!!!!!!!
Horrible prof. not helpful at all. doesn't really care to see student succeed. Feedback on papers is useless. id rather get no feedback than anything from him. has incredibly high expectations for all his work but isn't helpful when you need clarification. he's obviously passionate about what he teaches but doesn't care about the student.
Most unnecessarily difficult prof I have ever had. Switch out of his class to save yourself the headache.
Dr Klages is extremely knowledgeable. One difficulty I had in his class was his very specific requirements. I used rubrics for all assignments but never seemed to get a grade above 70. He is extremely knowledgeable about research and very personable but expect to have really hard marking on assignments. Tests are fairly simple.
Dr. Klages is a very knowledgeable professor with a clear and detailed grading rubric, but he is a tough grader. He does not provide notes, so students must make their own. He values participation. He gives feedback before assignments are due, offers assignment choices based on interests, and requires major assignments to be done in partners.
The absolute worst class I have ever taken in my entire undergrad. The prof is the hardest grader ever and does NOT care about his students at all. His feedback is not consistent, he will ALWAYS find a way to deduct grades. He made it very clear week one that achieving a 80 in his class is nearly impossible. A course I was interested in was ruined
