HORRIBLE!! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
He never gives enough time to complete tests and he is rarely more than boring.
Do NOT take this class. If you get anything above D or F then you are simply a genius.
DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE!
This guy does not give good lectures! Does not provide a helpful atmosphere for question asking and answering. Forget about a curve! You have to do problems in front of the class for extra credit points.
ECU GET RID OF HIM ... HORRIBLE, DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE CALLED A PROFESSOR! NOT HELPFUL EITHER.
He's a good teacher, but the material is incredibly hard, but it's Physics, what do you expect? Just do the extra credit problems and keep up with your studying you'll do fine. I pulled a B during his summer class, so while very hard, it's not impossi
hes a good teacher but his exams are extermely hard. if you dont study his notes and examples, you'll definitely fail his class. but i think he's the best physics teacher at ECU because the "work" points will help you a lot.
If you at all like physics then yes, but be ready to work.
best thing in the world. the entire physics dept. should be made up of clones of lapicki.
Hes the best!
Dr. Lapicki is a great professor. His test are extremely hard, but they are not unbearable. He is so adorable...almost the grandpa type, and he is so cute when he doesn't understand you. I would honestly recommend taking him for physics to anyone.
its very easy to get a good grade if you do the classwork, ends up with a LOT of EC. the tests are hard but just do the examples in class and in book, its physics so of course its not easy. hes a really nice guy and is prolly the best physics teacher
he is unclear, and although he gives lots of extra credit, it dosent do any good if he dosent teach the material. I cant understand him and he is impatient when it comes to doing class work never giving enough time to finish!!
great teacher
you will be fine if you work for your "work" points
Boring. I made an A without knowing crap about physics. Do the "work" component and bust out on one test, and you have an A. If you can read the book, you can do what he does for his lectures. Monotone. But, the whole dept. sucks; Lapicki is
Unless you love doing homework and board problems like you did in grade school, get out now!
lapiki blows. the most boring teacher i have ever had. on top of having to sit in his class and listen to him talk you do not learn anything either.
the class is ok. very boring professor. just read the book thoroughly and do as many problems as you can
This class was super boring but if you work for your "work points" and bust out an A or B on one test then you should make an A in the class no doubt. His syllabus is awesome but the lectures suck!
Dr Lapicki is pretty good. Just get your work points done and do good one one test and your fine. Fine as in A or B. Test ?'s are easier than hw in the book. Very boring lectures tho, esp like i had him T 6:30-9:30
Class isn't too bad. Lectures are boring, but grading system is awesome. Add everything you can to your work column, and show up for every class and you'll be fine. I didn't try too hard and I made a B.
He's really boreing and his tests are hard. Do as much work as possible and show up for class, otherwise you'll be taking the class again.
The class sucked and I learned absolutely nothing. I somehow got an "A" without knowing a thing about physics. Do the homework and ALL three board problems and you will do well. Lapicki is an incredibly nice guy though. "Dan-the-man" is the best tutor if you don't mind paying a little for his help.
There is no curving in his class. You have to work to earn points. If you do then you will do well. If you do not then you will fail.
He doesn't curve! Very hard class everyone was failing right before the last test. No extra credit, you get what you get. A 50 is a good test grade in his class but with no curve or extra credit it's still failing.
Could possibly be the worst teacher on ECU's campus, if you can help it, dont take him!!! cant understand a word he says
What a bunch of pansies! He only counts one test...he gives you 100% for 50%of your grade if you do the homework and redos. A very hard class but . . but not very had to make an A or B in. Just Bust out on ONE test!
I never passed a single test, and still made a B in the class, just do you everything to max out your work column, do decent on one test, and do decent on the final and you'll get a B without a doubt.
great class hard though if miss classes and do not work
This has is the worse teacher that I've ever had on a college campus. My degree at ECU will be my third university degree from a college in the state of NC. Of all the professors that I've had, this man is the absolute worse. I couldn't understand a word he said! I dropped the class because he was so unclear and I couldn't understand his accent.
tests were long and hard. didn't explain properly and couldn't comprehend a single word he was saying.i don't know what else to say except that he was hard and lectures were boring.
you will fail if you do not work in this class
This is the worst professor i have ever had. I couldnt understand a word he said. The averages on the tests were in the 30's. Also he is really mean and will lock you out if you go to the bathroom during class. I was in a 3 hour class and he only gave a 7 min break. He really sucks as a teacher dont take him if possible.
This class is great! I mean its not going to be a cakewalk bc it is PHYSICS but Dr. LIpicki gives you more than enough opportunities to get good grades with the work...you do have to come to class and the curves are GREAT! Best man in the dept.
He is easily THE WORST professor I have ever had the misfortune of taking. Out of 60 ppl I had some of the best test grades in the class and my highest test was only a 58. Doesn't help ever and if you don't hear what he says the first time, he won't repeat it until it's already time to turn in the assignment. NEVER TAKE THIS TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!
Do not take them if you are a slacker -- you will for sure fail. But if you do all the work and come to every class you will be fine. I got a B and an A in Dr. Lapicki's 1250 and 1260.
Horrible Professor. The class is taught off ofshort videos that he puts on a powerpoint. Doesn't give a curve. Tests are extremely hard. Averages are horrible. Don't take him if you can help it. This man has no idea how to teach.
this class can be very very hard if you dont come to class, and must read the book, the test are long and hard but the work points save the grade
His teaching definately leaves something to be desired. I think that his problem is that he is pretty much a genius and cannot remember what it he went into his first phys class NOT knowing. Does curve a LOT. My highest exam grade was a 68 & I got an A. I was freaking out at first though. Also is kind of and attendance Nazi.
I agree: worst teacher i have ever had at this university. He once even gave us an exam on 3 chapters, one of which was not even covered in class! his calculations for the final grade are mind-boggling. terrible teaching style. possibly the most dull class ever. Please don't take him. you'll regret it for sure.
It is hard to explain. Just avoid taking him at all costs.
Ridiculus teaching style. Doesnt post any of his notes on blackboard and the notes he posts on the overhead are COMPLETELY unorganized. He gives work quizzes every class and does NOT care to answer questions about his powerpoints. This class made my feel like I was on my own. Like the other dude said. AVIOD AT ALL COSTS
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. They switched teachers at the last minute so I had no choice, the other classes where full. You cant understand him at all. Powerpoints do not really help. You will be learning everything by the book. DON'T TAKE HIM.
He is hard to understand and goes through the notes on powerpoint and barely waits for you to even write them down, let alone understand what is going on in class. He also has the weirdest grading system ever!! Class averages for test are well below 50 and he gives no curve!! I worked my butt off for a B...beware!
He is not always easy to understand and requires you do the work & attend class but if you work hard on the classwork it can save your life! All my tests were below 80 & work points got me an A in the class. And for tests you get to use one page of notes/formulas. Just attend class and do partnered work and presentation problem and you can get A!
First failed class in college (Junior). Cannot understand him; no help when asking questions. Class average of tests were 30's. Attendance is mandatory (we aren't in high school). Apparently thinks everyone entering intro to physics should already know physics. Avoid at all costs!!!
hes a hard teacher, and he dose not like answering questions. he'll ignore you.serious
OK, Lapicki is old, mumbles, and has an accent. The class is very boring and he is hard to comprehend. Nice guy, knows what he is talking about, but I basically felt like I was taking an online course. It's a hard subject and not easy to learn on your own. He has a crazy way of grading and it will save you in the end. Go to class! Do the work!
I really must have pissed off God to get stuck in this class. Best grading option: 'WorkBookPoints'x2 + (sum of 2 best tests)/2 + Final... all divided by 4. Trick to this class is DON'T MISS A SINGLE CLASS, and do ALL HOMEWORK!!! 80WB pts, 45 test avg, and 35 on final will get you a D
avoid at all cost...worst professor I've ever hard after 3 1/2 yrs of college
if you take this class, you will essentially be teaching yourself physics. don't even go to him for questions: he won't help you/make sense/will ignore you.
Terrible!!! If you care about your GPA, then don't take this class.
Boring is the first words that come to mind but he has a great personality when you get to know him. He is very helpful and gives his students plenty of opportunities to receive the the grade that THEY choose.Frequent referencing to the book is a must,STAY AHEAD!!!!
I took 1260 during Summer Session 1 and made an A. It is not impossible to get an A however you have to work hard for it. He gives you plenty of opportunity to earn points and you decide which category those points will be added to. Overall advice, do not miss class, complete all homework, study for pop quizzes, and go to tutoring!
This is the most difficult class I've ever taken. He has a very strange grading scale that will help you at the end of the semester. My highest test grade was below a 60 but I made an A in the class. Attend every class, review examples before class, always do the homework assignments, and make tutoring appointments.
AVOID! Took this class for summer session 1. Mumbles, wont answer questions, not enough time to write odwn his notes, notes not on blackboard, everything is a competition, will ignore you & walk away if you have a question (seriously). Grading scale is wack and you have to write random papers that are only worth 4 points. Grading scale is wack.
Had 87 in work column, attended every class, highest test grade a 34, in the end got a C. If i had applied myself better probably could have gotten B. class is tough in general. you just have to get as many points as you can and put it in work column. lapicki is a pretty nice guy if you talk to him in his office, in class its all business
Do not take this man unless you have time to teach yourself everything about physics. Horrible.
This class was very confusing and he's very hard to understand. I would read each chapter and get a personal tutor, that's the only way to survive this class!!
Horrible teacher. Avoid if at all possible. He doesn't answer your questions and you can't hear him talking in class due to his constant mumbling. WORST PROFESSOR EVER.
You can barely hear him speak even if you're in the front row. Everything is a competition- homework, class work, presentations, etc. Only two exams all semester. He specifically asks PTC to not hold test reviews or help with homework. I would highly recommend taking this class with another professor.
I have never used rate my professor before and i made an account just to say how horrible this teacher was. I have never felt more cheated out of my money. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!
Mumbles and can't understand. Doesn't provide ppts. Go to class to be there for pop quizzes, but don't worry about paying attention. If you're good at teaching yourself, this class is fine. Gives room on cheat sheets for tests. Tests are fair enough. Room for extra credit if you attend class and on the tests I believe.
Dr. Lapicki is a terrible professor. He does not care about the students and hates when students ask questions in class and ask for help. He is very hard to understand with his accent, he mumbles to himself when he speaks. Many assignments are turned into competitions where only the first couple students who finish get points. Hard Test and papers.
If you dont have a mind for physics he is NOT the teacher for you. He gives papers as HW & makes everything a competition. If you get a classworkHW question right you may not get any points just bc someone else turned theirs in faster than you or wrote a better paper (in his opinion). His grading system is asinine and you have to teach yourself.
bail bail bail BAIL. Never take him unless you want to fail. If you get stuck with him prepare to battle your peers for a good grade
Absolute worst professor I've ever had. He genuinely enjoys people failing. He is rude, and his tests are extremely hard. Avoid him at all costs. I liked 1250 but this class made me despise physics. You can not hear anything he says even if you sit on the 3rd row. His powerpoints are hard to follow and he doesn't put them on blackboard
Probably one of the worst professors I had. Went to class all but one day and still struggled. He didn't want to help, expected everyone to know the material just like he does. If you raised your hand during class, he would look at you and just ignore your hand intentionally. Sorry in advance if you get stuck with this professor.
Lapicki is not a bad teacher, physics is a hard subject to understand and he does a good job on helping you out as long as you do the work I made an F on both test and got a B in the class
Only reads powerpoints, he does not answer any questions or show how to do any work
Dr. Lapicki is the worst professor that I have ever had. He mumbles so much that you can barely understand him and when you ask questions he does not even acknowledge you. He makes you write pointless papers and his grading system is awful. His PowerPoints are difficult to understand and he flies through the material. Good luck if you have him.
Could not hear in lecture. Very rude!
So, yes, he was terrible. Probably the worst professor I've had in my undergrad. However, considering the few options of physics staff offered at ECU, I'd go with him over someone else with a low rating. He curves A LOT in the end (even if he says he won't). You have to work REALLY hard in his class. Oh, and he's rude.
He's really stressful but don't drop the class too soon. Came out with a B because of the weird ways he grades exams and did the final grade. Tests will be hard but focus on getting the best grades you can on the homework, quizzes, and in class stuff. Final wasn't too bad either. Go to tutoring but don't let him know.
By far the worst professor I ever had he makes you write and watch pointless papers and videos only, fly's through the material, doesn't post powerpoints on blackboard, and ignore you if you have a question, and his test are impossible to pass, his weird grading is the only thing that will save you in his class and docks points for each miss class
Lapicki is the kind of guy to get mad at you for asking a question. I would absolutly discourage anyone from taking his class. He mumbles every word with a heavy accent and is incredibly hard to hear. Good luck taking physics with him because it will take up half of your time that semester.
Pretty terrible, cant hear him in lectures, doesnt post PowerPoints, tests are hard, rude in class when you ask questions, grading is super weird which actually helps but is confusing, makes you do pointless assignments, he is nice during office hours unlike in class. Just focus on doing work. Definitely avoid taking a class with him.
He's a brilliant man however he's extremely soft spoken and you can't hear/ understand a single thing he says in lecture. He doesn't post any of his lecture powerpoints on blackboard & flys through them in class. However, although he was a pretty terrible lecturer, he has a very odd grading scale, I averaged a 68 on all my exams but ended with an A
The worst! Can't teach or speak. He mumbles at the board, and you cannot understand what he is saying due to the mumbling and accent. He also has a very confusing assignment and grading method. Does not post his powerpoints online, and goes very fast through them in class. I would completely avoid him!
The bad: does not provide power points, can't hear or understand anything (and i sat in the 1st row), doesn't work through problems, not very helpful and gets an attitude. Worse teaching style i've encountered. If you like to sit and stare at a jumbled mess of a power point, take his class. The good: apparently he curves well but i dropped it
By far the worst prof I have ever had. He mumbles and doesnt teach. Never works out a problem. Is extremely rude when questions are asked or concepts are confusing. He has a weird grading method as well. He gives a lot of attitude at times. I would completely avoid this guy. You will not learn anything in his class, waste of time!
He is the worst professor I have had at ECU. He is brilliant when it comes to physics but he is an awful teacher. He has a bad accent and he only mumbles so you cannot understand a word he says and if you ask for clarification he gets an attitude. The tests are very hard and he will not give you a study guide or any information about tests. Avoid
Dr. Lapicki is easily the worst professor I have had at ECU. He does not make the material easy to Understand at all, he only explains things one way and never tries to help you understand. He has a bad temper and frequently yelled at the class and slammed things on the desk for no reason. He gets very impatient and mad when questions are asked.
He talks very low! No one could hear him the whole semester! Participation matters, especially the problem presentations and the in class partner assignments. He doesnt give any study guides and the hw is very hard. You can read the textbook but it has nothing to do with what he teaches because he goes all over the place! Would not recommend!
DO NOT TAKE LAPICKI! He is the worst professor I've ever had. Several of us complained to the department heads but we were basically told because he has tenure, there is nothing they can do. You can't hear him, his tests are impossible and he is absolutely rude! Take literally anyone else. He is brilliant but CAN NOT TEACH!
Professor Lapicki was rather hard to take as a PHYS professor especially online. Assignments were given in different locations so, you had to really look for your assignments. On top of that, the assignments were not the hardest to do but I taught myself most of the curriculum by videos across the internet. Assignments are due almost everyday.
The work isn't too challenging but he is a terrible professor. He does not answer emails, he does not answer questions about homework and he grades super tough. Also, he will add an assignment in the middle of the week so you have to check Canvas everyday. He is very unprofessional. Most of the answers are online, that's the only way I passed.
if you email and has for help we might just tell you that its not his job
One of the worst professors I've ever had in my life. He doesn't teach anything and assigns SO much homework. If you email him be prepared to have it thrown back into your face very rudely. Also, he doesn't give enough time for his tests and midterm. He only gave 90 minutes for a 60+ question final. DONT TAKE HIM!!!
awful. did not give enough time to finish final exam. LOTS of homework beware...
worst Professor I've ever had in 6 years he doesn't respond to emails and you cant get help from him.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY 4 YEARS OF COLLEGE. TOO MUCH HOMEWORK AND HE DOES NOT HELP.
Unorganized and doesnt help when asked
I have never had a professor as bad as this guy... Gave tons of busy work assignments and absolutely no feedback. There is never enough time for exams and his lectures are disorganized and not helpful at all. He loves to assign random assignments on Friday and have them due on Sunday, three days later. Legitimately the worst teacher I have EVER had
I've honestly never had a worse professor in my life. He assigns tons of busywork, reuses lectures from the beginning of quarantine (they lack organization and are extremely boring btw), and offers absolutely no help outside of class. The class itself isn't too hard, but be prepared to teach yourself the entire course. Definitely do not recommend..
