Do not take him for the lab! He makes you take tons of notes, and then grades your notes at the end of the trip! You don't get to enjoy the sites much. Mead is a decent guy; kind of quirky, but the class is hard. Take Patrick

Mead is a good teacher. Doesn't take attendence and will at times give extra credit for attending class. He is very gracious in giving extra points on tests if a problem was misunderstood. I would reccomend taking him for science.

The course is difficult and he goes through a large amount of notes from his internet site. But if you work hard and pay attention he is an incredibly easy "A." Another thing that he does is give many chances to recieve extra points by attendance, extra credit assignments, and grading on a very large curve. Excellent teacher.

Professor Mead is terrific. A lot of people take the class and expect it to be a nothing filler course. It is not. He actually teaches you geology, in depth, and completely. He clearly knows everything about what he teaches, and if you work, you will get an A AND you will learn a LOT. Highly recomended.

Has a 300 pound meteorite that hes very proud of. youll see it like 5 times and every time he will ask you if he already showed you! also he plays the piccolo. mr. mead is a good guy who really wants you to do well. He just expects to much, he throws a lot of unnecesary info in and his notes dont match his tests. he has a lot of random questions and really wants you to know the details. he takes his class seriously so if ur not interested in geology (a lot), dont take him.

Challenging, but not too tough (esc1000). Mead has a presence and entertaining character in the class with regards to the academics...knows his stuff and is interested in it. Field trips and hands on. Would recommend.

very hard class.. he is very helpful if u visit him during office hours.. tests are very difficult especially if this is u'r first science class at sfcc.. gives a lot of attendance points and it DEFINITELY HELPS to go ask him for help during his office hours

Dr. Mead was a great professor. If you attended class, participated, and studied his lecture notes, you did very well in his class. His tests were difficults but students are able to see old tests to study from. Attendance and studying the notes are key for this class. Wait to see if you need the book; never used mine.

This class was the first A I got in college. He was my favorite teacher and yeah there were a few people who hated the class, but honestly he puts past test up so you can know the test before hand. If you go to office hours he helps you out so much that I got 100's on the tests, just go for help with the study guide and you'll get an A.

He comes across so much harder then he actually is. A lot of material is covered. Study his old exams from his personal website, he uses 80% of the same questions. Labs arent bad, groups of 4/5 so everyone does a little bit and it gets done. I recommend, but you have to be able to put in SOME effort to get a good grade.

I loved this guy! His class really is pretty hard. But if you pay attention and do the work, it's not really so bad. For me personally, he really caught my interest in the subject. He knows a lot of really cool things. He may be a little bit geeky. But he loves what he teaches and understands it very well. Give him a chance. As long as you listen.

Notes are online. It helps to print them out and follow along. Class is pretty easy. Old tests are online so study from those, they are very similar to the tests you will get. Attendence gets added as extra credit, but it taken a few times randomly. Not too difficult of a science class. He is a pretty cool, down to earth guy.

I thought it was an somewhat easy class.. if you went to class and reveiwed the old tests he has online before the each test you do good. Doing the online quizzes helped alot, and you have an unlimited amount of time. I think he was pretty fair with grading.. He really likes Geology, maybe too much!I would definately take him again.

What to say about Mead... I really didn' enjoy his class. Very boring if you don't like taking notes- but i would recommend it- print 'em out and take notes and you'll be happy come test time. I got a B without putting in too much effort... and if you have to take his lab- it's a good one to take- you get to take field trips!

Cool Class

You need to really pay attention in his class, but as long as you're a good note-taker, you should have no problem. He gives a LOT of information, but the harder elements usually aren't on the tests and the hardest test is the first one, so don't get discouraged. Take the old tests on his website because he uses a lot of similar/same questions.

Great teacher. May seem a little tough at first but when you get the hang of it, it becomes easier. If you put the work in you will succeed. Study old tests they really help on his tests and also review you notes

I took this class because I thought it would be an easy physical science. WRONG! I spent ALL my time studying/taking online quizzes for this class. I literally ate/slept/breathed Oceanography. Me & everyone else in my class that wanted to pass. No joke. SAVE YOURSELF & DO NOT TAKE THIS!!!

Dr. Mead is a very nice guy and very helpful, however, this class turned out to be WAY more difficult than I had envisioned! He assigns these dreadful online quizzes that take hours (literally). His exams aren't too bad...the quizzes are really the only bad part. Go to his office hours! It REALLY helps! Ended up with a B+ in this course.

Wonderful professor. Has a ton of experience in his field, and can back up every topic discussed in class with evidence or a story. One of the best classes I have ever taken. Only hard part is remembering those only quizzes! Pay attention in class and you'll do fine. No previous experience needed in math, which was great, and no papers or anything.

Great teacher! I learned alot from his lectures, if you are into Geology and really want to know your stuff take Mead! There is a decent amount of homework, but you will retain the knowledge alot easier because of that.

Funny guy, I'm still on the fence about him. If you are an active listener/participant he will like you (not to mention do better on the exams). his lectures are excessively boring but his tests are simple (although not many others thought so) homework and labs are very easy as long as you turn them in. Don't buy the book!

Dr.Mead is an amazingly enthusiastic teacher. His lectures move very quickly so, you have to take good notes. The book is rarely used, everything that is on the tests is in the notes. He expects students have a college level of commitment to his course. So, if your study habits are poor and your looking for an easy A, Do not take this class.

I loved this class! Dr. Mead is the best professor I have had at SFC! He is very enthusiastic and expects his students to be studious. So, only take this class if you want a fun and challenging course. I highly recommended this course and the Lab!!

Mead is a hard professor and I thought for sure that I wasn't going to make any thing higher than a C in his class but I got an A! Turns out if you come to class, do all the quizzes, labs and homework and study hard for his exams using the textbook and his online website, you should be fine and actually do well in his class.

I took Greg for the lab and I loved it! Engaging and fun. Almost all of our exercises took place in the field and we really learned a lot. He is a tough, but relatively fair grader. Just don't be surprised when he's all nice to you and then gives you a B.

Mead is a great teacher. The way he explains the subject material is engaging and interesting, and he presents it in a way that you can remember what youve learned. He is a very smart guy and has been all around the world, and has many cool stories and photos to share. One of my favorite professors ever.

He is clear when it comes to his lessons. He will use hands-on techniques to prove his points. His quizzes are quite hard, and his tests are as well. Definitely look over the old exams on his website. They are extremely helpful. He uses questions off the old exams, so the test is nothing new if you look over them and research the answers.

Dr Mead was AWESOME. I took his meteorology class online, and it was easy & fun. This was his first time teaching it, and I felt like he did well. I had a baby in the middle of the semester, and he was really great about letting me catch up. The end of the semester he was hard to reach, but good otherwise.

Absolutely amazing professor. I was a little hesitant at first based on these reviews, but he's actually a very knowledgable person who's more than happy to help. He's also a great person, I have sat in his office for hours and just talked geology! Highly recommended, even if geology's not your thing. He's great!

I took his online meteorology course and got a B+. I had never taken an online course before so I was quite worried, especially after reading the reviews on here. In the first week he has a meet and greet for students with questions about taking an online class. The course is really easy and mostly common sense. If you need help, ask him.

One of the best science teachers I've ever had. He's really interested in his field and clearly loves to teach. His labs are incredibly informative and his lectures are easy to follow. It might be difficult if you're not into geologyscience, but he has clear lectures that are very close to the book AND has his website with all lectures and extra information posted. just attend class, pay attention, ask question, and study and you'll be fine. TIP: go to his office and get to know him! (and take the lab its just rad field trips!)

Really clear and engaging lectures, great sense of humor, good stories, intreresting career. My only issue was that he was very strict in labs and calls you out if you don't follow directions. He also will take points off of short answer questions if they aren't exactly how he would say it. Overall though, fascinating subject and highly recommended

Prof Mead is a great professor, he cares a lot about what he does. He will explain concepts until everyone understands them and will answer any question students have. You must go to class if you want to pass and you must pay attention during lectures. He makes you work for your grade, i would take him again but be ready to work.

I'm currently professor Mead's class and he really cares about what he does so he takes it serious. I don't think he is horrible he just expects you to do work. He only gives quizzes online and 3 test. The quizzes are OKAY. if you want to pass the test look at the old exams and study them, same stuff. I would take him again, he's cool

I am not a scientist/science major at all, so I was a bit nervous at first going into this class. Dr. Mead made all of the material very accessible, and if I was ever confused or had an issue arise I got a lot of help and feedback during his office hours or after class. You do have to work a bit for this class, but it's not bad! Would recommend!

The lab sections were so much fun! I am not a science major at all, so this means a lot coming from me. We got to go in bat caves, go swimming in the springs, had competitions to see who could find the most fossils, and got to go "excavating" for marine fossils at the quarry. At the end, we had a huge party where he grilled! Great guy, informative!

As a fledgling geologist at the time, I honestly can't say theres a better Earth Sciences professor out there than Dr. Mead. He's intelligent, engaging, and extremely passionate about his field of study. Informative lectures, exciting field trips, and involved in-class labs abound! Also, don't be surprised if he shows up dressed as Indiana Jones.

Professor Mead is excellent. He brings exterior in the field knowledge to the classroom as well as a passion for the curriculum. If you want to become a scientist, he's the teacher to take. If you want to learn about science, I recommend him. If you want an easy course for science credits, I recommend another professor. He's also very transparent.

Professor Mead is great. He is really passionate about the subject. I was able to pass this class with an A but you have to go to class and take notes to do well. He is not a fan of being interrupted in class so if you need to ask questions bring your notes and book to his office and he will be more then happy to explain the information to you.

If you pay attention and follow his instructions you will get a good grade. If you listen to him in class, he says all the answers to the quizzes. Very passionate about what he does. No technology allowed, even to take notes. Highly recommend printing his website letures and taking notes on them during class and printing quizes for class. Gives access to all previous exams which is very helpful. He will say things you can't find on the internet so assume everything he says is important.

He is very passionate and thorough in his lectures. His exams are extremely similar to his old ones, which he provides for studying. He offers extra credit randomly just for attending class which is awesome. He doesn't put up with BS but he has a sense of humor and if you put in the effort he will help you. It's not easy but he's good.

Speaks from experience, truly interested in the students learning. Injects humor where it helps the student understand. Passionate abiyt the subject matter. Very helpful and always available during office hours to explain subject matter. Speaks in a way easy to understand by students. Works hard to see if students really understand the subject.

I took GEO2010 in an online / in person hybrid. Assistance wasn't mandatory but I definitely wouldn't have passed the class if I hadn't attended his lectures. Tests and assignments are based exactly on what he says in lectures and has in his webpages, Google doesn't help. Overall a class you need to dedicate time to but should do well in.

I took the GLY2010 course in Fall 2021. His lectures are really good, he does a great job of explaining things and answers questions well. Overall definitely five star as a professor. Just note that there is a lot of time that needs to be put into the class because there is so much content. It is by no means an easy class, but I enjoyed it.

MET2010 with Professor Mead was fun and interesting. He is respectful and available to help you out. Test heavy but weighted. Ample extra credit opportunities. Open notes on all tests. Go through each chapter and answer the leaning objective questions at the beginning in notes then write down all vocab words for each section. You will get an A.

If you take Mead for Met2010, be prepared to do A LOT of textbook reading and note taking. He doesn't teach this course basically at all and all information is learned through the textbook readings, however he was always willing to answer questions and admit to his mistakes. And this is coming from someone actually studying meteorology :)

If you genuinely care about the content, this will be a good experience. Many assignments, the grading scale is a bit complicated, but I promise you WILL learn the material and that these are not deal-breaking factors. If you want an easy credit, don't take this class. He can be funny, he cares about the material, and is never unnecessarily mean.

I really enjoyed him as a professor, he makes it very easy to study and gives useful resources(including old exams)there is a lot of hw, but I find it very useful for learning the content. He definitely knows what he's talking about, and he's also pretty funny.

Great professor, canvas is outdated webpage but put in some time to understanding it you shouldn't miss any assignments. There's no reason to not pass as all the tests have extensive study guides. A lot of homework, can be long and tedious... If you're not interested in geology you should not take the class but if you are, it's a wonderful intro!
