hoping to take more classes from him
Dr. Parks is great, very helpful and wants to help you do well in the class. Activities made the class interesting.
Use the online study guides and you will be prepared for the tests and he gives good test reviews in class. Lots of group work but some of it is fun. He is easy to talk to if you don't understand something and he will take time to meet with you anytime.
Its early in the semester but so far so good. Looks like it will be an enjoyable class.
Go to class and you will get an A. He gives you all the answers to the quizes and even the final. The projects seem overwhelming, but he grades very easy. He seems kinda shy in class, but he is really nice an laid back. Lots of group interaction so you get to know the class. Not boring at all.
I decided to major in Psychology after taking his class.
I learned a lot in this class. The projects and group activities made it interesting. It seems like a lot of work at first but you can get an A if you are there to participate and you follow the instructions . The grade comes more from the projects than the quizes. If you are there for the reviews, you will know exactly what is on them.
Good teacher. He's laid back and easy to talk to and willing to help. The 8 week class moved fast but he gave us time in class to complete projects. If you don't show up you won't do so well at least in the 8 week. I don't know about other classes. I would take another class with him.
I took intro psych with him online and it was great. We did have to work but I learned so much and he was so helpful anytime I needed it.
This class was overall pretty easy. You have a research paper, quiz every week, dbs, and two extra credit papers. I hated the research paper.
This class is overall pretty easy but REQUIRES 10 volunteer hours at specific places. You are able to use study guides on test. "DR" Parks seems like a nice guy but is definitely not hot lol. He doesn't seem to really know psychology as well as some other professors. There were several times that he couldn't answer questions.
I enjoyed this class. There is a group project and 10 service learning hours so it requires a little extra time. He is funny though.
Great class but did require some extra work. To me he really seemed to know his stuff and has experience in psychology other than teaching. I hated the service learning at first but ended up loving it and learned alot.
My favorite class, I looked forward to going. Dry sense of humor but funny if you pay attention. Cute in a Christian Slater kind of way. I learned alot by having to apply what we learned in class in the activities. Tests are only half the grade but the study guides are awesome. We got classtime for some of the service. Only seems hard at first.
awesome-one of my best learning experiences. If you really want to know how to use this in the real world take him. As a nursing student I was glad to have application. If you don't care about that there are probably profs who will assign less work but for me the little extra time was worth it. I thought different at the start but was happy I stayed
The hot/not thing is kind of silly but the 1st day I saw him I thought he looked just like Sean from NipTuck. More importantly he was a great teacher. As psyc major I was lucky to learn from someone like Dr. Parks who is an experienced clinical psychologist. I think he taught at large universities and also worked for the FBI or something like that.
Online class horrible, instructions unclear. Offers no extra credit. Unsympathetic to family emergency. Be sure to follow instruction TO THE LETTER! Would not take his class again unless ABSOLUTELY
If you are'nt prepared to work dont bother. He is a great guy but his class was HARD!! You do get to use notes on tests but you have to do a group project and a service learning project, so dont think useing notes on test will help you too much
This is my very first college class, and so far I am really enjoying this class. A few people seem to be very confused, but if you listen to what he is saying, read the syllabus, and the assignment paper, you should know exactly what to do. He list his powerpoints online and study guides, so there are many resources for you to turn to :)
Great instructor. This is not my major but, I found it to be intersting. A great summer class.
Dr.Parks gives you lots of chances to do extra credit and no homework. 5 quizzes, one research paper(easy) and a short response paper to a panel discussion. Nice guy and fairly knowledgeable. Tests are not easy. Few people in class get A's. Difficult class but not too difficult.
Online personality theories class is fairly difficult. There are a lot of assignments that feel like busy work. He never communicates with the class and he does not keep grades posted. I don't recommend this professor.
Quite a bit of written work in personality theories online but it really helped me do better on the tests. The assignments forced me to read thoroughly. He is a little slow posting grades, probably because he does read the assignments. Fast with email though and available. Grading was fair and all of the requirements were clear - no surprises.
Great teacher, entertaining, test are passable if you study
Professor Parks is a GREAT professor. He's willing to help you if needed, offers extra credit, and willing to work with students when situations arise. I am a Psych major but this class was just too random and I'm glad it's over!
Super nice teacher! EASY A. a lot of reading but if you just listen to his lectures, pay attention, and do extra credit there shouldn't be a reason why a student wouldn't make an A! He really knows his psychology! RECOMMAND!!
I don't know why it put average when I was saying how good of a teacher he was! It should say good/ great!!
Professor Parks is, in my opinion, a bit dry... he's a great guy, I mean, but I have a hard time following him. Before I started my Psych class, I was excited...now...not so much.
Eighty-five percent of my psychology class is failing the class. He seems uninterested in helping us. Take at your own risk.
I took this class online. There was a ton of reading and homework. I took the 8 week class so it was more compacted but I still felt like he expected more then necessary. I spent every evening this summer studying and walked away with an A.
He's very dry. Answers questions very vaguely. However the tests are made from these objective worksheets given at the beginning of the semester. If you work and study those, super easy A. He's nice.
Great professor everyone else is complaining because they have no idea what a college class is supposed to consist of. If he made the class any easier he would be filling in the bubbles on the tests before handing them out.
Prof Parks expects you to do college level work, unlike a lot of classes at OCCC. In Social Psych, there are tests, discussion topics, and 2 research summaries. He gives extra credit and he was fair in his grading. Don't expect an easy class, but you definitely learn about the subject!
Parks was great and I couldn't believe how much I learned about us as humans in the 15-chapters we read. If you actually read the chapter you will get it. I would read a section then ask myself if I understood it and if I did I would move forward if not I would go back a read again. He wants you to succeed and will give you every chance to do so.
This class is not difficult if you read the chapters thoroughly before the class. There are quizzes online, but they arent hard. Overall I liked Dr. Parks. Very straight forward scheduled class.
I just completed Psy1113 online for Spring 11. I was quite pleased with the way Dr. Parks ran this course. He gave very clear instructions on what was expected of us, and when everything was due. He also surprised us with a couple last minute extra credit opportunities. If you keep up with the coursework, you will do very well. Recommend!
Horrible! No response to emails, does not follow syllabus, lessons and syllabus contradict each other. Your grade is somewhat reliant on others. Skip him if you can!
I had Dr Parks for 3/5 of my psych classes. I didn't like the online class much on a personal level. However he is a great prof. I recommend taking in school classes and not online because of how much content he likes to cover.
Dr. Parks is very knowledgeable. He has many years in clinical work other than teaching.I have asked random questions throughout the semester and he was willing to give extra information/resources on topics I was interested in. I took Human Sexuality. after he gets used to the class his humor comes out and it made it more interesting. RECOMMENDED!
Hard at first cuz i didnt read the book any. Take his mastery quizzes and read all the chapters and its a breeze...i had a 56 an he helped me get an 79 by the end of it. He's great and very interesting power points, funny ones too. He knows alot!!! Very highly reccomend him. Gonna miss that class. took the 2.5hr one a nite. Good one to choose.
nery nice teacher. wants everyone to pass the class. If you talk to him he will work with you. extra credit is afforded do the homework that is easy points. he gives alot of examples the test comes off the syllabus. i would take him again if i could.
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He is completely unreasonable in the amount of information he expects you to remember and the chapter outlines are ridiculous! Trust me, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I am an honor student with 3.85 GPA. Not a slacker.
I took his class online and it was TERRIBLE! Overall his participation was non-existent, he did not keep up on grading, and was not consistent when posting study guides or weekly discussion topics! I can not say what his class is like on campus, but I would not recommend taking his online class.
Dr. Parks is pleasant enough. But he is very unclear. He does not lecture clearly or enough. Many test questions come from a bank of questions that reference a different edition of the textbook than he currently uses. This class also has MANY online activites/study activities so be aware of that. Love Psych, but not this class set up.
Dr. Parks is a great professor; I've taken him for Intro to Psych, Human Sexuality, and Social Psych, if I could I would take all my psych class with him!
Dr. Parks is an excellent professor. He is very clear about what is expected out of you.If you do his study guides, you will do great on the test.Others are complaining about the online area of his class but he tells you about that in the very first class,he is lenient with his due dates, and is very willing to work with you. I would take him again.
I have taken two online classes with him. Although I did pretty well in both of them, the entire semester I barely knew what my grade was. He is really bad about emailing back, so if you have questions don't expect to hear back from him in a timely manner, if at all. If you use the study guides for the test, you will do well.
Best professor I've had so far at OCCC. I look forward to this class. It is more difficult than I expected but He makes it fun and interesting and gives you lots of help to do well.
loved loved LOVED this class! So many interesting topics and so little time. I've had Dr. Parks for other classes and he did not lecture as much in this course - more group discussion and he brought in great speakers on different topics. He lectured in about 1/4 of the classes-fun with lots of humor and reviewed for exams which were online.
While professor parks is a good professor (as it appears from many of the comments listed here), I do not recommend taking his online courses. I absolutely loved the material, it is probably the only reason I faired well in the class. I have take 2 by this professor and the communication lacked. If you are gonna take him, do it on campus.
Dr. Parks is a very sexy man with lots of SWAG!!! You may not see it at first but pay attention and you will... He is an intelligent man with a great sense of humor! He wants the best for his students and will go out of his way to make sure you get what you need!
Took this class during 2-week intercession. I was dreading class every day for four hours but turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Professor Parks made it interesting and the time went fast.
Never heard a peep from him except once when having trouble with Moodle during a test and a second time when he was reminding me that I hadn't taken my final on campus yet. Those were the only times I needed to hear from him because his course is laid out in crystal clear format & follows the syllabus word for word. No guessing, no confusion.
Never take him again.
Do not take his courses ONLINE. I am currently taking his online Personality Theories course, and he never communicates with me when I email him or bothers to help me with technical issues or questions at all. I'm a 3.9 GPA honor roll student and a major in psychology who's barely making a C in this course despite how hard I'm working.
Great professor! Only emails when there is a problem with connect. Be sure to learn the material if you are taking it online because, the final has to be taken at OCCC without any materials.
Course is organized clearly and includes connect assignments, discussions, quizzes, exams, a comprehensive final, & 2 papers. Interesting topic! However, no email responses, no feedback, no ongoing interaction, plus slow grading (essays due in Aug & Oct, graded in Dec). Maybe he's awesome in person, but I won't personally take him online again.
Been at OCCC for 3 years, had many professors & Dr Parks is unorganized. You might as well throw the class schedule away. Lectures have almost nothing to do with his quizzes& exams. Puts videos on mostly. Hard tests&quizzes. Doesn't communicate with students on what's due via email so if you miss a class you could miss important assignments.
Dr. Parks is an excellent professor, but this class would benefit from a little tuning here and there. If you're bad at taking tests, this is the class for you. There are only 2 in-class tests over the whole semester, so tests weigh comparatively little compared to other psych classes I've taken.
Huge number of exams and quizzes (8 quizzes, 9 exams), plus had to go through the pearson connect quizzes for 18 chapters of the textbook. Much of it felt like busywork; often tests on definitions of terms rather than actual knowledge - it felt like I was in a history class being quizzed on dates. Takes weeks to grade papers or reply to emails.
Dr. Parks specializes in the field of Human Sexuality, so this is one of his best courses to take. He is a pretty simple professor, there is a quiz due with every chapter but they're only ten questions each, and his exams are identical to the reviews he does the day before; lectures are fairly short and sweet. Terribly slow grader however.
I had him for PSY-1103. He's a great professor and and so long as you do your part, yo will learn a lot and earn an easy grade. If you skip class, don't read, and don't do your homework, don't bother taking it. He teaches out of the book, gives quizzes, and hands out a few packets, but it's not too much work.
Expect to work hard for the online course. Lots of papers, tests, quizzes. Must read the book, pay attention to directions, show profound effort. Grading takes months- don't expect to receive feedback. Professor interaction with students is very minimal. Required final exam must be taken in person at the school or students will not pass the class.
He tells you in the 1st class that you have to be in class & participate to pass. He made Human Relations fun and interesting. I am now using techniques that I never thought I would, & they work! He isn't great at emailing back, so don't. However he is available before and after each class if you have questions. Grading takes a while but fair!
Professor Parks seems to get really upset when you do not attend class. He is very VERY slow at grading. Some of the projects he gives out are not clear and that was said from pretty much everyone taking the class. His grading is too tough for someone taking psychology of human sexuality.
Professor Parks is an awful communicator. You can email him and he won't reply for at least a week. I felt like having a professor was completely unnecessary because I literally did everything for myself. I only passed because I really enjoyed the material.
Just no. Never again. His courses I took were impossible to do online. I dropped both classes.
Professor Parks is not a hard professor. Just go to class and do the extra credit offered and you can easily pass with an A. I highly advise you to stay after exams if he says there will be an activity because he is probably going to let you retake the exam with a group and it can raise your grade. He is terrible about responding to emails.
This professor is not recommended. I literally only did well in the course because I liked the material. He never was in contact with the course so if you miss a deadline, you are screwed. The only time he was when he reminded us to take our final exam. Everything is off connect and you learn it by yourself or you don't. Take another professor.
I really enjoyed this professor. Not crazy hard, but you will have to actually participate. Professor seemed like a really awesome guy. Everything we went over was really interesting and he made it fun to learn.
I took this Developmental Psychology Online class and he was a terrible professor. He does not respond to emails until weeks later, and he's very short&rude when he replies. He does not grade material quickly. Our midterm assignment was due beginning of October and he did not grade it until the end of the semester with no feedback provided!Terrible
Took dev psy online with this professor, and he didn't do much in terms of teaching the class. I had to teach myself the materials, sadly, primarily through reading the text. The amount of reading you do is crazy considering the class was only 8 weeks. The entire book was 600+ pages. Not to mention, there is a heck load amount of hw every week.
I took his 8-week online Personality Theories class because I thought it would be fun. However, something is due everyday. You have to post your discussion post first before being able to see everyone's. It takes 30 minutes before you can see them and comment. The connects are very long, takes hours. Multiple connects in a week. Unnecessarily hard.
This class is governed by Connect and smartbook assignments. The concepts range from 35 to over 50. You have to answer 2 questions per concept correctly or it does not count towards mastering a concept. Takes hours to complete one chapter if you quickly take notes which is necessary fi you want to do well on quizzes and exams. Tough on discussions.
Dr. Parks Class was okay at best. The homework was normal especially for an 8 week class. He gets back to you rather quickly on emails. The only thing I didnt care for was that he took the average of two exam grades instead of giving you the highest of the exam grade if you took the exam twice.
He is available by email and will respond. Do not wait until the last minute on connect or moodle otherwise you will forget about things or wont have time. He gives extra credit, but it is not enough to get you a full grade higher. If you love psychology this class is easy, if not then be prepared to read a lot.
not many hard assignments but does use mcgraw-hill connect alot. only had to write one paper which was easy and if i ever had questions he sent back paragraphs of info! great prof, definitely take his class.
Parks is pretty hands off, since 90% of what you do is through connect. As long as you do the reading you'll be fine, but it is a LOT of reading. Tough grader for discussion posts--make sure you follow all post instructions thoroughly. The constant chances for extra credit are very appreciated.
It was fine. Typical online psych class at OCCC. Homework/test through Connect and quizzes/discussions on Moodle. There are several extra credit points every will that will help you pass the tests and quizzes. Easy to get an A if you just do all of your homework and the extra credit.
Didn't actually do anything and will inform you you're wrong but wont elaborate.
seems like a nice guy, but has an insane amount of work load. (ie. having a two separate exams due on the same day). I could list more examples but in short only take him if its the last option, even then i'd wait to take the course if you're a busy person.
I enjoyed this class and learned more than I expected in 2 weeks. Dr. Parks was always available by zoom and quick to reply to email. It was A LOT of work because it was a 2week class but I knew what I was signing up for. Grading was fair and he gave comments to explain for discussions/paper. Will take him again but probably in an 8wk instead of 2.
Literally stopped writing a paper to come on here and give this review. The class is honestly not terribly difficult except his discussion posts and essay requirements. The requirements for a paper in this class are absurd and actually ridiculous. Please do not take this professor. Save yourself a few mental breakdowns.
90 percent of your homework is going to be on connect. You will also have a lot of video assignments, and discussion posts. Make sure to read the discussion requirements before you post something. Chapter test are proctor thru connect. You will need to write one paper. Honestly this class had a lot of work more than my other classes.
I expected the class to be interesting because of the subject. Dr. Parks made it even more interesting by expanding on the material from his experience as a clinical psychologist. The group activities were fun and helped me learn by practicing what we learned in the book. The hands-on aspect was great. This has been my favorite class so far.
This was the most engaging and interesting class I've taken at OCCC and Dr Parks is one of the best instructors I've had. The workload is heavy but class is well organized and he is very involved. There are so many things I will take from this class and carry with me for the rest of my life. I truly appreciate that I had the opportunity to take it.
The professor barely taught anything in class, all "teaching" will be done by the textbook and the millions of smartbook assignments assigned to students. Had one day of class with him, and had six chapters, an activity, quitz, and proctored exam all due before the next weeks class.
This class was good. The professor does assign a good amount of work but its pretty easy stuff. As long as you do the assignments you will pass with a good grade. He also seemed to really care how the students were doing in the course. He emailed me letting me know I was doing good in the class and if I needed help I could email him.
This class was amazing! The professor is very knowledgeable and I enjoy learning from him. I highly recommend all his classes. It was my 3rd class with Dr. Parks and definitely my favorite. It was very interactive with group activities to apply what we had read. You have to be prepared for activities by doing the reading and pre-class assignments.
By far one of my favorite professors. It can be a lot of work, especially in the 8-week course. But he provides all of the material for success including study guides, unit reviews, videos, etc. I'm always a little worried professors will be uninvolved with online courses but he was present and helpful!
This professor is the definition of doing the most. He assigns TONS of busy work worth very little points. His quizzes are upwards of 45 questions!! Quizzes should be 20 questions max, 45 is a whole test. He does give extra credit ever unit which is nice, averaging around 1-3 pts per unit. Discussion posts are heavily graded and reading is a MUST
Took online class during the summer. Lots of reading on Connect textbook and video assignments which are due every week. Just one essay, few discussions, and proctored exams. Mostly do it yourself class and professor checks in by sending out a email occasionally. Overall, not a bad class. Just busy work at times.
Interesting class but heavy workload. Smartbook assignments and reading are time-consuming. Unit quizzes and exams are due every week, but still has plenty of resources to help you. Usually emails back quickly if you have questions about anything. Feedback on assignments can be late though. Difficult if you have a busy schedule, but doable.
This class isn't necessarily hard, just a lot of busy work. He uses McGraw Hill online textbook and assigns smartbooks weekly-they take FOREVER. He offers extra credit for each unit which is nice. Quizzes are 25+ questions but aren't difficult. Discussion post expectations are more similar to those of an essay, so they take longer to complete.
The class is self-taught with a heavy workload, I took the 16-week course—can't imagine the 8-week version! It is taught through McGraw Hill with each unit includes 2-3 Connect book assignments, an activity with unlimited attempts, a quiz (2 attempts), and a unit exam (2 attempts). The final exam is 90 questions with 1 attempt.
Lots of reading needed to ace the tests. He does help out by holding practice test questions through zoom. He's a tough grader but I think it helps to challenge your knowledge. I did the 8-week online course and it was a lot of assignments every week. If you can, take the 16 week course. Overall great professor and very knowledgeable.
I did not have a super hard time keeping an A in his Developmental psychology course, it is book heavy, I prefer to handwrite my own notes, and I think that helped, I struggle with tests so the weekly proctored tests was a struggle. I had a personal emergency during the last week and he was great, and understanding.
Not the greatest. Good lectures, but can be very rude and grades harshly. Even if you do every assignment and score well, there's a possibility you could leave that class with a high D at best. Very vague as he grades your papers as well. I wish I had dropped his class.
The workload is about the same as other psychology classes. My friend had a different professor for the same class and the assignments were mostly the same. Prof Parks really wants to help you do your best. I wasn't doing so well in the beginning and he helped me improve my grade to a B. If you need help go talk to him.
