By far one of the coolest teachers. He made the class fun and comfortable so that speaking wansnt hard at all. Likes to joke around and has good stories to tell.

Maybee not the easist speech teacher but definatly the funnest. If you do all of your speeches, even bad, you get atleast a B. Lots of extra credit

I had more fun in this class than any other. Poff is a great teacher, and extremely helpful. No textbook, no homework, no tests. The class is run like a debate tournament. Its awesome!

Poff was an excellent coach. He doesn't lecture at all except for the first 2-3 weeks. The rest is all debate debate debate. This was a rad class and an easy pass.

Greg is great. He's very clear about what he wants, try's to keep class entertaining. Although, if you join his speech and debate team, he'll be a real hardass. But it makes you better.

I was so scared to speak in front of people in the begining of this class, but by the end I was fine. I learned a lot, he's a great teacher. I really recommond taking him. You'll be glad you did. As long as you prepare for your speeches and don't slack off, you'll have an A.

He is a very nice teacher. As a debate competitor in high school I can recognize his ability to truly teach speech & debate. I took this class while in high school one summer & loved it. I took it again but for N/C because I had work conflicts. I really do suggest the class if you are interested in parli (I have no interest unfortunatly :().

Mr Poff's reputation precedes him. He's an awesome teacher to have. SCC is very lucky to have him as head of the debate team.

Poff was great. No homework, just speeches. He's funny and helpful, I really liked him. No notes allowed, but how hard is it to memorize a 2 minute speech? He is tough on those that don't do their work, but they deserve it.

if youre looking to take this over summer, do it! awesome class w. an awesome professor. he made my fear of speaking in front of a classroom of strangers disappear. he can be very sarcastic, and blunt but every bit is helpful because he lets you know what you need to fix asap. no outlines but its EASY if you know your material which you should!

Clear and to the point, very effective. I agree it is difficult being in the first group, but it sure feels good when your done, especially come finals. I would recommend speaking in the second group.

I love Poff so much! He has made public speaking so much easier for me. His class was fun and entertaining and you were sure to make friends in that class. I will never forget the confidence that I have gotten coming out of that class. Highly recommended.

Great teacher. He is hilarious. He kind of embarreses you from the get go which makes it really easy to give speeches in front of the class later on. He made a really friendly atmosphere and I am taking him again for my other speech classes.

Took him during the summer intersession. He was awesome. Arguement and Debate is a very fun class. It was pretty easy for me. Take good notes for the qualifying exam that you need to take in order to start arguing. No book.

After semesters of avoiding this class, I finally had to take it. Although scary at first, you get to know the class better from all the initial exercises, which allows you to be less nervous when it's speech time. He's a great speech prof. and very funny! Just take a couple of tequila shots before class and you'll be fine!! LOL

this was like my favorie class. he canceled all the time, we didn't have any homework and the tests were all speeches. it's kinda nerveracking at first but you get used to it.he also made it really fun. very fun class

greg is the best teacher at solano. his class is really easy and he helps you to become a great speaker. he may seem intimidating at first but its just his voice. overall i loved him and i wish he could teach all my classes

this is one of the best teachers at solano. hes tells it exactly like it is and doesnt baby anyone. he treats you like an adult without the aloofness of some teachers. he really connects and teaches you at the same time. he engaged the entire class in a competitive debate tournament that was fun. recommend to all. :)

Mr Poff is awesome. he is very enthusiastic about teaching and really gets you motivated to do a good job. Pay attention to how to do an outline and make sure you make eye contact when doing your speeches and you will have a guarenteed A. Mr Poff is the man!!!!

This was a great and fun class to take due to Mr. Poff. Really enforces his rules so be to class on time, on speech days, so not to get a zero for your speech. He helped everyone become better speakers and is an easy "A" as long as you do the miniscule amount of work he gives you.

Mr. Poff is one of the best teachers at Solano. His class is very easy but very helpful. He is very enthusiastic about teaching which makes the classroom enviornment so much fun. If you have to take Speech I defenintly recomend you taking this course. You wont regret it!!!

Mr. Poff is an awesome teacher! He makes things easier and more relaxed for the students. He does whatever he can to help them. I'm terrified of public speaking, but he made it fun and enjoyable.

Really knows what he's talking about, offers lots of extra credit opportunities. He's usually a very animated, fun teacher. His only flaw as a teacher is that he's impatient and abrasive when he's irritated, and has a low tolerance for questions he thinks are "stupid." Pay attention and put in the effort and you'll be fine.

You would be insane not to take his class. He is my all time favortie teacher. All you have to do is show some effort. You can tell he really likes his job and isn't tough on grading!

BEST TEACHER EVER! Not only is his class very fun and interesting, you use what you learn in everyday speaking. Of all of the speech teachers, he is definitely the best with students. He has a sarcastic sense of humor, but he is hilarious and very down to earth in class. Take this course, you won't regret it!

Loved this teacher! He really was awesome. Poff's grading system is super easy and at the end of the semester you have to do a speech w/o an outline. To me, you had to just memorize your speech a month in advance. He really even helps you out w/everything. He explains everything clearly .

Greg was my teacher at El Camino College, in 1987. It was an easy A. He had everyone learn everyone's name the first day. He offered 100 points extra credit if we took part in the speech tournament. He encouraged us all the way. He was wonderful, friendly, brilliant, inspirational, encouraging, nice, helpful, perfect. Take his class!

I've taken classes for 4 years at Solano. Gregory Poff is my far my favorite teacher. He cares about you as a student and wants you to succeed. As long as you are respectful and act like a student should act you will get an easy A. He makes learning easy and fun. You always will have options for extra credit and ways to push your grade up.

I'm so glad I choose to take Poff instead of another professor. He really wants you ti succeed in the class and is willing to work with you if you put in the time and effort. He can be kinda up front (may come off as rude but he's not being rude) but he's human like all of us. The tests are open book and he gives out lots of E.C.

He is very good and direct. Show up to class and stick to the plan and you will pass the class. He is very good professor and can be entertaining when teaching the class. Definitely learned a lot for speech I would take him again. If needed too.

Mr. Poff wants everyone to succeed. He is excellent at what he does, therefore, he is really good at teaching how to speak in public. He is very funny, and very frank. If you are mature/responsible, you will like him. He gives a lot of extra credit and his tests are open book. Everyone has to give 5 speeches. With practice, you'll do great!

Poff is a good professor, a bit short at times but that is just his personality. He gives good feedback and a lot of chances for extra credit. Exams are a little tricky esp the T and F questions so you must read the material before hand. I definitely reccmd Poff for Comm 001 or any class. You will get a lot of of his classes.

He is a Greta guy I loved him as a teacher but also as a mentor honestly. He is making lyrics fair with your grade, you need your book only for tests, dont miss your speech date, participate, and he gives really great feedback. Very hilarious lectures but great and informational.

You want an easy A? This is the class to take! You want extra credit? He has numerous loads of ways to get them. You suck at tests? He will ALWAYS allow you to use your book during them. Overall, his class was just so easy. All he wants is for you to have the balls to go infront of the class and speak despite how boring or dull your speech is.

I attended his night class. The syllabus was given on first day of class, expectations were clear. I enjoyed that he was straight to the point and not lecture heavy. Answered emails in a timely manner. Class made public speaking/speech not as scary. 100% would recommend him.

I took professor poff this spring 2017 he's overall a great professor very understanding, gives great feedback on your speech outlines, gives plenty of ec opportunities and is very funny I ended the semester with an A

Lectures are the most important thing, miss them, and you fail. There is a textbook, but he mostly grades on performance and participation. However, you won't get an 'A' if you don't read the text, that's what his lectures are on. Easy grader, and is hilarious. You'll never learn more about public speaking than if you learned it from Poff!

Really cares that you become a better speaker. The class gets harder as it progresses but as long as you take his advise and practice how he advises you'll be fine. The most difficult part of the class is just working up the courage to give speeches, but as you get to know your class better it gets easier. Open book quizzes, graded by few things.

He builds you to be a strong and confident public speaker. As long as you follow the criteria for the speeches and practice, you'll do well. One speech will need to be memorized. Make sure you show up on your speaking days and on time. Exams are open book and he gives extra credit. He requires an outside of class speech so keep that it mind.

Super easy and wants you to pass so you have a good GPA. Very funny teacher and makes class interesting. Replies kind of slow to emails so you should just ask in person. A lot of extra credit. You can skip a whole speech and end up with an A. You literally have to do nothing in this class to not pass.

Prof. Poff Is really easy to get along with. His goal is to build up your confidence as a person. He is very understanding but it firm. A real gem at Solano College.

Friendly, but easily irritated if you don't grasp concepts well. Wants his class to know each other (spent first few weeks learning about our fellow students). Very fun class, good lectures, couple of group activities. Fair grader, and also gives so much extra credit I could have passed with over 100% (I didn't due to time constraints). Good prof.

This professor is the best professor I had ever had. There is no anyone nearly as nice as him. You don't understand anything in class? He will stack back and help you! Very easy A! if you don't attend class or miss a speech there is a 100pt extra credit activity. Anyone can PASS with a A!

Professor Poff has taught me to not be scared of speaking up. His class was one of the most fun classes I've taken. He's hilarious & really knows how to give good advice. The speeches are not difficult, as long as you put in the time and effort to construct & learn them. He teaches his class at a steady pace which makes the class less stressful.

He is an awesome teacher! I took this class on campus until the COVID outbreak and then this class was switched to an online course. He gives really good feedback and is always willing to help out when you need it.

Mr. Poff is a great professor! I'd recommend taking him for COMM 001. He's really open to late work, and isn't to harsh when he grades things. The tests and quizzes were pretty easy, and there wasn't much work. He also has great sense of humor and will adapt to any concerns. Textbooks and participation in meetings are not required.

He can hurt your feelings a bit when he gives feedback, but is always appreciative of work. He's a good teacher but get ready for lots of videos and discussion posts.

Gives good feedback, and gives you a chance to revise your outlines. The feedback can seem kind of direct, but hes a super nice guy and I think hes working as fast as he can while teaching 5 sections at the same time plus all the time he probably takes re-reviewing revised work. Lots of assignments but solid choice for speech. Take him!

This professor is amazing! He gives you detailed recorded instructions, templates for work, and even feedback in your video submissions. He likes to see his students improve and you get the points based on your effort rather than an actual letter grade!

I would not say Professor Poff's class is easy, but the workload is extremely manageable, and he is very generous with due dates. His feedback is thoughtful but honest. His lectures are interesting. You will progress in his course and see growth in your speaking skills.

This class requires you to make videos of yourself for assignments, and everyone sees. But, there is no late penalty, so keep that in mind as you will. An easy class, and he provides great feedback. Don't feel intimated because this class actually helped with my confidence, and there are others who are doing the same. He let's u pick topics n grade

Professor Poff really cares about the growth of his students; communication is key, and he'll basically work with you through any difficulties you may have. Video speeches mandatory, but personally, they weren't very stressful. You get better with practice, and student feedback is usually helpful, too. Would definitely take this professor again!

Poff is an amazing professor and person in general. I really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I grades fairly and is very understanding on if you need help with assignments, and the assignments are fairly easy at that!

I can say that he has inspired me to do better in school and his class will always be a loving memory from my first semester of college. If you are struggling with picking a professor, pick Poff! Amazing professor. Every single time I came to class, I learned something new that could be applied to my speaking skills. I met tons of new friends and overcame my social anxiety through this class because Professor Poff ensures the class atmosphere is very welcoming and supportive. Gives great constructive criticism that really helps you improve.

He explains assignments very well. There are a lot of presentations in class, so be ready for that! he only does this to get you out of your comfort zone. He gives candid feedback on your presentations but only does it because he wants you to improve. He's funny, honest, and engaging. AND always be present in his class!

Poff makes public speaking so simple. The class is not a lot of unnecessary work, the workload is perfect for preparing you for the future. Great professor. Clear communication, fair and clear grading guidelines. If you can't pass this class, you simply didn't want to put in any effort. Lectures/lessons are very heavy on politics, from a one-sided perspective (left). If that bothers you, he may not be the teacher for you. Aside from that, fantastic teacher. Would take class again.

I took Poff's class and he really is a great teacher! Most of the classes consist of lectures so take notes and read over the modules. He was very straightforward with the work and don't be afraid to ask him questions. He doesn't let you use note cards in the speeches so beware of that, you do get lots of time to practice speeches so use it!

Easy A I recommend this class

Professor Poff is an amazing instructor! The online course was 8-weeks and consisted of 8 quizzes worth 80 points in total, 9 written assignments worth 220 points in total, and 4 video presentation speeches worth 200 points in total. He also offers a generous amount of extra credit.

Take Greg Poff! He is a beast and he is so nice, understanding, funny, and inviting. I even looked forward for attending his classes because they were chill and fun for the most part. I never felt stressed out when taking this class and I like how I never really had to study, I just had to practice the speeches. Get this guy if you can.

This is absolutely the professor you want when you take comms! he is so funny and is always willing to help. I never wanted to miss a class and I became very comfortable with public speaking after his class, when I originally was not. If I could take his class again I 100% would.

Never enjoyed a class until I took Poff. Amazing humor and offers lots of extra credit. The only way you'd fail is by not doing the speeches. Provides a ton of material for the course in understanding how public speaking works and gives a clear breakdown about the speeches you have to do. He definitely helped me become more confident with speaking!
