He is a really nice guy, he seems a little too smart to be teaching an intro class though. His tests can be a little difficult but he tends to throw out questions on the test that a lot of people get wrong so it brings your grade up. He also gives a lot of extra credit, up to 50 points by just going to psych experiments which are kinda interestin

So you guys say that he teaches from the book...so his tests should be easy, right? Well maybe if you put some effort into it and actually read the book it wouldn't seem so difficult?! I don't care what anybody says he is a great professor and his class is very interesting!!!

I have him for 2 classes. He's great! Smart, funny, energetic. Really seems to care about his students. Tests aren't easy but aren't a surprise - you have to study. I love him. And he's really cute and fun to look at!!! :)

Professor Shelly is a very nice guy, but does not seem to have great knowledge on the material and is almost too laid back. The material is dry and tests are a bit tricky, but with all the extra credit oppurtunities available, the course is a piece of cake.

Easily the best professor at KU. This guy knows his stuff and he also knows how to interact with students. He made Statistics not only worth going to, but he killed the fable of it being uninteresting and pointless. Dr. Shelley is THE man, and if you don't like him, you probably don't like anyone-- including yourself.

This professor is AWESOME. Not only is he extremely funny and uses stories and examples that college students can relate too, he explains and answers any questions you may have. If he doesn't know the answer he asks his collegues and gets back to you in a day or two. He takes responsibility for misleading questions on tests and curves grades.

This class was great. You have pop quizes almost every week, but its for your own good to help you. I got an A and now i am taking him for Health psych a little harder class but still hes an awesome professor

i had him for social psych and hes a really fun teacher and does lots of in class experiments to keep everyone interested. the tests are pretty hard though

Wonderful Prof. I've taken him countless of times throughout college and really have learned a lot. So relatable and makes you feel at ease when taking an exam which is really helpful. The tests are actually semi-difficult, but hes a really good teacher and you learn so much it feels easy. Really nice smart guy. Don't graduate without taking him!

Dr. Shelley is a world class educator. Why do I say this? Because it actually REALLY matters to him if we understand the material or not. He WANTS us to learn, and cheers for us when we do, that's cool!

Dr. Shelley is awesome. He's totally down to earth and can actually communicate so you get it. He doesn't talk down like other professors (especially in psych). He isn't easy - you have to do a lot to keep up - especially in stats. But he tells you what to expect. Hes fun and very good looking and well dressed. I want him for every class.

Shelley is my fav prof! He definitely isn't easy and class attendance is essential for a good understanding but he makes every class worthwhile!

He is an AMAZING prof. He cares about how each and every student does. Attendance is not mandatory, but you HAVE to go if you want to do well. Ask a lot of questions and let him know when you are not clear about something. He goes above and beyond if you are willing to do that yourself. He is EXTREMELY good looking and very well dressed.

He is HILARIOUS and makes an otherwise boring class entertaining. Swears a lot which is amusing. His tests are pretty hard but if you study and go to class you can do well. He also gives extra credit. Take him!!!!!!!!

Dr. Shelley is probably one of the best professor I've had. I failed general psych twice and I'm going to have an A. If you get offended easily dont take him - he says EVERYTHING he wants too. Overall he wants you to do well and he's hilarious. Going to class is something I actually look forward to

Keeps his lectures very interesting but is still very strict. Great personality, great professor, and of course he gets a chili pepper!

Professor Shelley is an amazing professor, advisor, and person in general. His classes are not easy by an means, but he makes sure that if you commit yourself and put in time and effort that you will do well. He is the best professor I have ever had and I even made him my advisor. If you want to do well and are willing to work for it TAKE HIM!

IF YOU CAN GET HIM , TAKE HIM ! STATS IS A DIFFICULT CLASS BUT HE EXPLAINS THE INFORMATION SO CLEARLY THAT ITS HARD NOT TO UNDERSTAND. HE DOES SET HIGH EXPECTATIONS HOWEVER, AND THE CLASS IS DEMANDING. HE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP AND ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS. HE DOES HAVE A POTTY MOTH THO, SO BE WARNED. I had him for stats and he is my advisor. Hands down one of the best professors I suck at math and got an A in his stats class. Is really funny and makes material easy to understand. I highly recommend him!!

Try your hardest to take him especially for stats. It is not an easy A but with a consistent effort it is possible to well. He breaks everything down so clearly that its almost impossible to get lost. TAKE!

He is amazing! Incredibly attractive, funny, smart, witty, and interesting. You will never want to skip a class because he makes it so easy and fun. He has a great sense of humor and relates everything to college students. He makes Statistics easy to understand and his tests aren't that hard with a little bit of studying. we never used the book tho

He is a very good teacher overall, just be aware that if you ever ask a question you will have to explain it all and he will not let you alone until he knows you understand it fully, it becomes intimidating. DO NOT GET ON HIS BAD SIDE, or you will never be able to be taken seriously for the rest of the semester.

Best teacher ever. First of all he actually makes class enjoyable with his humor and style of teaching. Very personable and willing to help. I am horrible at math but was able to do very well in stats because of him. Definitely take his class for any psych course!

For Health Psych, his tests are multiple choice w two short answers. Takes attendance at random. Super knowledgeable about health psych and the pharmaceutical industry. Keeps lectures funny and interesting. You don't need the textbook!

I LOVE Dr. Shelley. He makes topics interesting, explains things really clearly and gives good examples. He's the department chairman but he's really funny and easy to relate to. Not easy but he tries to give advice on how to study. Yes, he's definitely hot. And he dresses very professionally which I think is important. Definitely take!

Dr. Shelley is wonderful. He's very blunt and talks a lot about sex and drugs. It's refreshing to have a professor that isn't afraid to be honest. His class is easy. HOWEVER! You have to buy the textbook with the CONNECT access code. He assigns homework through CONNECT. I would take him again.

When I say he gives pop quizes, I mean he hands around a sign in sheet that he then puts on D2L as a "popquiz" with the date next to it. I think it is meant to scare the kids who do not attend lecture to show up. But why wouldnt you? He is freaking hilarious, and he makes even the most boring topics interesting. 10/10 would take again :D

Dr. Shelley is by far the best professor I've had this semester. He made psychology extremely interesting. I was very nervous about taking psych but after just one class with him I am trying to take more. He made everything clear and gave real life examples making things stick easier in my mind. I've taken so much from this course. 10/10

The class gets frustrating sometimes because he won't let kids who don't understand alone - it drags the rest of us down. I would take him for every class I could! I loved him! I had stats before with another prof and dropped it because it wasn't making sense. Dr. Shelley makes things seem so clear and easy. But you have to practice. He's funny and keeps you interested (and a definite chilly pepper). I never thought statistics would be my favorite class at KU so far!

He's crass and judgmental but pretty funny and certainly makes class interesting if nothing else. He's a harsh grader for papers, including rough drafts, and won't hold back in the criticism department. For experimental psych at least there was no textbook which is a plus. I wouldn't recommend him if you have a thin skin but I'm glad I took him.

AMAZING TEACHER ! Have him for senior sem. You read three books, discuss them, no test, occasionally have pop quizzes (really easy as long as you read), one big paper and presentation and a reflection paper. He is hilarious and keeps you really INTERESTED. He makes you want to come to class. EASY A.

Great professor and very easy to listen to. Would always let my class out 20-30 minutes early and gave quizzes almost every class, but if you read what you were supposed to you get a 100 (he just wants to see if you read). Would get distracted fairly easily and go way off topic but I highly recommend this course because it is an easy A.

One of my favorite psych professors. He's so funny and a really understanding great person. Just wants to see what you know, if you're willing to open your mouth and speak you'll do fine. Got literally 100% in the course. Just wants to know your thoughts!

Easiest class I took. Online quizzes due every Sunday that took less than 30 mins to complete and 3 "tests" which were exactly like the quizzes just more questions. I quizleted every question and would always get at least a 9/10. He funny and easy to approach, you don't even need to show up to every class, just get the quizzes and tests done.

best prof to date. his class is super easy and attendance is really not that big a deal as my class was 150 people. i have maybe went to that class 3 times and i do well on all the assignments from just teaching myself (nothing against his teaching). he is super cool 10/10 recommend

Dr. Shelley is probably my favorite professor this semester. He's very witty and smart, and the class itself is very lax and laid back; his lectures help but attendance isn't really necessary when almost all the quiz answers are online. If you're interested in psychology or just looking for a fairly easy elective, make sure you take psych with him.

Dr. Shelley was very kind and funny. He is accessible outside of class, just email him. He makes lectures fun with jokes and personal stories. His quizzes were online and open book which was nice. If you plan to take this class as a Gen Ed or because you need to, 10/10 would totally recommend it!

I think this is the easiest class I've ever taken. Class is not required, but 20-question quizzes are due weekly. All information can be found in the posted PowerPoint or the book. I honestly didn't go to class after the first 2 weeks and finished with an A. I would highly recommend taking Shelley over other general psyc professors.

Best professor I've had. There was weekly online quizzes and the occasional online exam, but they were very easy. There was also a 2-page double-spaced reflection essay that was easy points. You did not really have to show up to his class at all, but he is very funny and charismatic so going to class does not feel like a waste of time at all.

Dr. Shelley was awesome, he was really funny and his lectures were super engaging. The way he sets up his class is super easy to understand and not hard to do. I would 100% take him for Pysch as he explains everything really well.

He did a lot of presentations/slides for us to reference, and he posted them online for us to use. If you pay attention, its a great class & he's super chill. Shelley is a kind professor and super hilarious! He's definitely a father, as that translates into how much he cares for his students. His class is super easy, and he takes a bit more attendance now than before, but you will be fine as long as you come to class.

Shelley is very knowledgeable and experienced in his field and it shows in his lectures. While his class is lecture heavy he is naturally very funny which makes it fun overall. Some people may think he comes across as harsh but he just expects respect which is fair. The textbook plays a heavy role in the course.

Best psych professor. Dr. Shelley does amazing lectures and is very transparent with due dates. Due dates are strict but each quiz is consistent. The class is reading-heavy, expect to be reading the textbook several days a week. The ethics paper is easy if you follow the guidelines and he gives several opportunities for extra credit. An easy A!

14 online quizzes, 3 non-cumulative exams, and a paper. Overall, the class is easy, though he does take attendance sporadically, so be prepared. Provides some extra credit oppurinties through research and submitting things early.

Very entertaining, all lectures but it wasn't too bad. Literally just do the homework, quizzes, and exams and you'll get an A. Easiest class as long as you do the work (which still is not much).

Dr. Shelley has an easy class for general psych. He is very funny and his class is easy. He did go off on tangents about stuff that could be triggering to some people. However, I really did like him and would recommend. He also gives many opportunities for extra credit which is great and attendance does matter so go to class.

He was so funny and I loved coming to his class since he was so engaged with the class. He also did a joke of the day and they were always so funny. Highly recommend his class and the only assignments we had was, 1 weekly quiz and 3 exams. Plenty of opportunities to get extra credit too.

Lots of funny jokes, loved talking to other students, lectures were always very engaging. Only catch is a weekly quiz and the lectures don't help at all with the questions, but they're easy to google as the quizzes are always online. 100% worth it.

This was by far my favourite class, Professor Shelly is absolutely hilarious. He is very kind, and his lectures are easy to understand. He starts classes off with a daily joke, and usually tells you when he is going to take attendance the next week. I am greatful that I got to take his class, I have learned so much from him.

Professor Shelley is one of the funniest guys around. He is always telling jokes and keeping the class engaged. He is funny even without sacrificing the informative part of lectures. The classwork is easy if you pay any attention to lectures whatsoever, and the content and professor are interesting so it is easy to pay attention. Highly recommend.

Professor Shelley was amazing! He is generally a really laid-back and understanding guy and it felt easy to talk to him if I was having issues. Classes are always lectures, usually boring, but he told stories that relate to the topics so class was much more interesting.

Go to class, it sounds dumb. But it's simple, attendance is a big part of this class. However, don't be stressed if you are not a Psych major. Dr. Shelley understands it's a Gen Ed and that's what I loved about this class. He made it engaging to those who don't want to learn more and those who do. Professor Shelly is absolutely AMAZING, his class never failed to put a smile on my face and always provided a good laugh. Shelly was so kind and cared so much about the students, and the daily jokes were never dull. His lessons were clear and easy to understand, the slides and course material were easily accessible online.

Absolutely amazing professor. Weekly quizzes that are due the same time each week, all exams are online. Reading is recommended but honestly you can get through the class with skimming the book. Very funny and enjoyable to have class with. Going to miss him when the semester ends!

Prof. Shelley is genuinely great at teaching material that would normally seem boring. Class is interactive and fun and you actually learn things that you would want to know as a student. A weekly quiz and daily attendance, but other than that, grading is clear and he's always open if you need help. Besides some raunchy jokes, he is hilarious.

Would definitely recommend taking Shelley's class if you haven't. Yes some of the lectures can be boring but Dr. Shelley can be really entertaining too and if you attend every class, then you'll easily pass.

One of the best profs I've had so far. He's unapologetically himself, cracks jokes, lets you play music, and somehow makes even boring lectures bearable. Be ready to tell a joke though, but seriously, if you get a chance to take his class, do it! You won't regret it!

Psych with Shelley was such an easy class it was great, sometimes it was a bit frustrating to attend class when it felt frankly unnecessary but he's a funny guy and seems to be overall very caring and kind.
