He is the best. he sort of intimidates you in the begining, by making you think he's strict and hard, however that's quite the contrary. Very detailed and organized. He knows his stuff. I took him for lab and lecture and got an A in both classes. but you must make time to study. He is also not bad to look at. very good looking.Highly recommended
Not Recommended.Doesn't use the book, goes by really fast. Only good thing midterm was take home. Most of the class failed. Stay away!!
Decent chemistry teacher. Doesn't use the book and tests have some book specific questions but other than that it's a pretty easy class as long as you study a little bit. Midterm is take home and the tests are decently easy as long as you at least read the book once. Would take again.
Apparently the bottom to people where in my class and they have a different view, no book use , no clear at all only save was the midterm was take home. Avoid if possible
Professor Smith has a very calm and indifferent personality. I almost felt like he did not really seem to care about the student success in that he had other obligations. HIs first too exams were so hard. Then there was a take home exam which was so easy, another take home exam which was hard. He is OK but, I do not recommend him. sorry.
This professor sort of intimidates you in the beginning so that you think he is strict. (He is not!) However he is organized and full of knowledge. I took him for lab and got a "B" because I did not study like I should have for the midterm and final. YOU HAVE TO STUDY!!! Highly recommended :)
Please don't take this guy. He does not care about his students make you memorize formulas and his test are SUPER HARD Please listen to my warning don't take him. Avoid at all cost!!! seriously
Bad experience. Just not a good teacher in general
He has an attendance sheet that he passes around but never checks so you can show up and sign yourself in for the entire week. He taught from a PowerPoint that he didn't show. He acts oblivious to students cheating and you can do whatever while you're in his class, except talk on the phone. He has four tests and a final, but no office hours.
The man is a honest and fair person if you study and try he will help you out. I have earned 50 in two exams and 90 in a take home and 70 in another and he has helped my grade greatly. Comming from a man with no interest in chemistry he made it just a little bit better.
Professor Smith is a nice man but goes wayyy to fast even when most of the class is lost. His tests are only about 13-16 questions and so getting just two wrong already puts you below an A. There are no take home exams and if you get lost in the beginning then good luck passing the class.
This professor is very confusing, even though he doesn't care if you cheat in his tests, he is boring. A good thing about him is that he gives review sheets before the tests! THE QUESTIONS ARE SIMILAR TO THESE REVIEWS, so do them they will help you a lot. I wouldn't recommend him, but if you have no other choice,.. take him. Got a B
Even though he is not a good teacher in the lecture class, his lab class is pretty fun! And the best thing is that you can cheat on his test, he never notices at all. Some test questions are the same as the book. Just do the experiments and HAVE FUN! Got A in the class :) yay!
The professor is really nice and tries to explain to the best of his abilities, but his exams are really hard since he rushed most of the chapters and we had to grasp most of the information on our own. He curves the exams if he sees the class struggling and may or may not give a take home exam depending on his mood.
He is just awesome! Great teacher, no accent and does only exams. He emails practice worksheets although challenging chapters, the book and these worksheets are EXTREMELY helpful. He also loves to teach and definitely gets into his lectures.
This is what a college level class should be like.If you are interested in majoring in a career related to any medical field and you ACTUALLY want to learn take him.He is extremely knowledgeable and does know how to explain even the most complicated topics,he is approachable, understandable and his English is impeccable. Highly recommended.
His tests are hard. Study the practice problems until you can do them in your sleep. Does not believe in curves. He will force you to learn the material or get a low grade. Good professor if you are serious about learning chemistry. If you need an A, be prepared to put in come serious hours a week studying!
Super strict teacher ,he will make you know your stuff!! , if you really want to lern CHE , take him
PowerPoints that is not related to the test and the test are not easy which you think it would be since it seems like an easy class and a total of 6 tests and a group project worth a lot of points (200) don't recommend
He is the best professor I ever had,he knows how to explain very well, very intelligent and helpfull.
The tests were hard but had extra credit, so it isn't too difficult to get a decent grade.
If you are good at chemistry, you won't have problems to pass the class. He is prepared and explains the content very well. Tests are not that hard if you study.
Dr. Smith was my favorite professor in all my time of taking classes at MDC. He is great! He teaches the lesson clearly, answers every question with relevant examples, and makes sure every single student understands! If you really want to learn Chemistry take him!
Mr. Smith is a great professor and will definitely prepare you for CHM1045. Chemistry is not an easy subject but he gets right to the point. The homework he assigns will prepare you for the test. Drops the lowest test grade if you get an 85+ on the final. He's willing to help specially if you go during his office hours. Study and read the book.
Gregory Smith is a saint when it comes to chemistry. I have never understood chemistry before and was always intimidated. He changed that for me and might have made me want to change my major. The way he explains chemistry is the clearest way humanly possible. You do not get assigned homework or class work, you get 5 tests instead.
He gives homework for every other chapter, but helps out with it and gives plenty of time to complete it. Tests are all multiple choice and in most tests he gives out extra credit questions. He's always there for his students and wants them to pass. Professor Smith was a joy to have and I'm taking him again for CHM1026! :-)
Its a great professor, I never thought I liked Chemistry that much, he explains with patience and sympathy. If you hate Chemistry you end up loving it.
I love this professor. Explains great. He compares the lessons to real life situations/objects/ideas that you can understand and offers all his help, even his own tutoring. Chemistry is not an easy subject but he made it bearable. It is a tough subject, so pay attention and study and you'll do fine. I would deff take again and recommend to anyone.
He is an excellent professor he doesn't move forward in the class unless if everyone has understood the subject and he provides study guides for each chapter. In our class we are even behind of our schedule because he wanted to make sure we had an adequate amount of time to take the test.
I dont even know how i passed his class. I would cheat on his tests and still manage to get Ds. I had the class twice a week and would only go once a week and he did not care. I never studied for that class and still managed to pass with a B. He was super nice but at the same time i failed 1046 because of this.
Long boring lectures. Hardest most painful class I ever had to take. Half the class dropped with in the first week. Makes you buy book for no reason.
Based on most of the reviews given here I decided to take him for the spring term, unless you already understand chemistry from taking it in high school, do not take him!! He gives 4 tests, they are 70% of your grade, then there's the final exam which is 25% of your grade and homework is 5% which he barely even gives. You must study to understand.
He knows what he's doing, don't get me wrong, but he isn't that good at explaining the material. He assigned Homework and expect it by the following class. A lot of homework questions, just a heads up. He would always promise reviews, yet never gave them. Unless you know some chemistry prior, I DO NOT recommend him at all.
He's a good professor and really knows his stuff. He gives good examples. He tells you what will be on his tests. We has 3 tests, an unexpected take home exam, and a final. His tests have extra credit questions. He's also very helpful and caring.
He is a good person and knows a lot about chemistry. His test are tough but easy to pass if you study his reviews and lectures.
Please do not take this professor, please just don't. The only way you will get an A in his class is if you are really smart. He knows Chemistry but doesn't know how to explain clearly so that the students can understand him, he likes to confuse them. I attended to every single class, read the book, did EVERYTHING but his tests were too hard!!
Smith hands down is the best chemistry professor, Im not going to lie I took 1025 with him and I got a C but for 1045 I got an A. You have to read the book, do the worksheets, and the book problems, you need to know how to study on your own. If you have questions go to his office hours don't sit around and complain. He prepares you for higher level
AMAZING PROFESSOR. YOU NEED TO WORK HARD TO PASS THE CLASS AND TO READ THE BOOK TO GET A GOOD GRADE. TALK TO HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS, HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING YOU NEED. DO THE HOMEWORK. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN CHEMISTRY TAKE HIM.
Pretty good teacher but make sure you take notes from the book as well cause he doesn't cover everything that will be on the test. Answers questions during class and after and makes sure everyone understands the material. Lets you know ahead of time when the test will be. Gives you practice worksheets.
He is honestly a last resort professor. He talks and hes so boring you lose track, hes willing to answer any questions, and loves to push his students. there are no assignments during class and he knows you cheat on test. Its not an easy class, its not fun, it tedious and boring.
He really knows his stuff, and is one of the toughest graders I've had. If you take him get ready to work hard for your grade.
Prof Smith is a very respectable teacher and cares about all of his students. YET his lectures are very boring and brutal. He talks in circles and over complicates simple chemistry problems. At the end of lecture you feel more confused and flustered than the class before.
Please just stay away. Unless you already know a good amount of chemistry don't take him. He is very knowledgeable, but he does not know how to teach and explain. He teaches as if you already know. Tests are HARD. Do yourself a favor and take RALPH DUARTE, HE IS THE BEST THERE IS. im taking him now and ive had perfect scores for first test and mid
In the beginning i hated the class because i was very confused, after the 3rd class i started asking questions, because his lectures are kind of bad he doesn't explain much. Lab guise its very fun if you like chemistry, but it is a lot of homework, and a research paper. But he has great office hours and is always willing to help.
Professor Smith is honestly one of the best professors I've had so far. Chemistry is NOT an easy subject but he's really good at explaining and he cares about his students a lot. He lectures good and answers all your questions and helps you out on the test. If he sees that you try in his class and you care he'll help you out.
This is a professor you want to pick if you fit one or more of the following requirements: 1. You love chemistry. 2. You hate yourself. 3. You have an absurd amount of time to study so you can teach yourself the whole class. He doesnt know how to explain, yet expects you to know everything he's saying. Study guides provided, but exams are tricky.
He explains everything well and detailed, but it is up to you to study for the test, go to tutors, they will help you a lot with him
Very bad at explaining and difficult to understand class
Best chemistry teacher I've ever had
Test are super heavy and he barely goes over the exercises in class. If you are really good at chemistry and you can learn pretty much everything by yourself, take him. He gave us a bunch of extra credit but it is not enough.
Always ready to help and easy to understand.
Amazing lectures
His tests are hard but he's an amazing teacher so you'll understand the material and you'll easily pass.
Now this is what I call a real College Professor! Material is clearly explained. The work is challenging, but its up to the student to put in the work to read the book, study, and go to tutoring. Learning becomes "fun" because you're actually pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone, and it will pay off
Excellent teacher!
he,s really awful. do not expect on test what he teach on class because test are different with tricky questions. even if you study and reading the book tests are difficult. i do not recommend to anyone. lots of homework for extra credit that are not enough for up your grade. I dropped the class.
Worst professor ever, do not take him. Dont expect to pass his exams, they are so hard and he doesnt give you any reviews. Be prepared to study on your own.
Exceptional professor, very clear and specific in what he wants you to know, gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. If you listen in class and do the worksheets his test are a walk in the park. And he is funny as hell.
Do not take this professor unless you have a very good prior knowledge of chemistry. Going to his lectures is pointless because all he does is write on the board without thoroughly explaining and expects you to just know it all.
terrible professor. does not know how to teach.
spends the whole class lecturing and he wont even ask you if you need help, all the exams are super hard and he expects you to show up to class on day 1 knowing everything. If you didnt do good before dont take him unless you're a brain, his study guides are nothing like the test.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU ARE TRYING TO PASS, WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD AT MDC
He explains until you understand, but the tests are heavy and not related with the lectures. No matter how much you study you won't pass unless you an expert on orgo.
He is a good professor sometimes . He give you a lot of extra credit . And his exam are so hard. You have to study a lot and go to tutors for help. Also go to his office and show him you care about the class . He will recognize your face and if you have a difficulty he will help you. Only take him if you are going to study.
Look, it's chemistry. If you came in not expecting lectures you're in the wrong field.. You can't expect stem to be as human oriented as more liberal degree classes, you have to put in the work and you have to study, if you failed it it's on your own. You wanna pass? Get the work done, ask questions, and be productive One of the best I've had
Although I would not take this professor again, he knows what he's talking about. He has powerpoints but your notes & textbook are what's gonna save you. Offers studyguides for each chapter being tested on, and because of how difficult his tests are they really do help you prepare if you don't do any independent studying.
Chemistry is not an easy subject, it involves a lot of time studying on your own. If you don't have a lot knowledge about chemistry it would be best if you didn't take him. Go to the tutors from the BEGINNING don't wait until the end and expect to pass because you won't! Yes his test are hard, but show interest and go talk to him. He is a good guy
Best professor ever! Amazing, caring and respectful.
Best Chemistry Teacher I've ever had!
He is a very knowledgeable professor and knows what he's talking about but this class is VERY hard, but Chem is heavy subject. Make sure you do every single extra credit opportunity he gives you will need it. This class is not impossible but you will need to invest a lot of time to succeed. Talk to him and build a relationship.
He is a good professor, if you have a Chemistry backround it will be easier for you, if you dont be ready to read a lot and go to tutoring always. Is a very dificult material and his test are super super hard. Doesnt give study guides and if he does half of it wont be on the exam. He is ver respectul and gives extra credit.
I took Smith for CHM 1025 and orgo 1. I got A's on both of these courses and you learn a lot from him. Smith helps you a lot outside of class and his tests are straightforward. You have to read the book in order to understand chemistry but his lectures are really solid.
Gregory Smith is a good professor, his lectures are pretty good, but the test are a little bit hard. Anyway I will take another class with him if a could.
Overall great professor that uses real life scenarios as a way to explain his lectures. His mechanism to explain things is like no other. Although he is tough on his tests but is willing to help if you see him in office hours.
Professor Smith is awesome! His tests are super hard and so is the content, but overall hes a great professor and super hilarious. He also gives a lot of extra credit so you better take advantage of that because youre definitely gonna need it, it helps you a lot ! Hes super nice and knows a lot.
This professor knows the material and explains it very well but his exams are VERY HARD. His lectures are very general so they wont prepare you for the five exams and he wont give you reviews either. Be ready to study on your own. YOU BETTER ATTEND TO THE FOUR SEMINARS(extra credit) its a total of 20 points that will definitely save you.
Professor Smith is one of the best professors to learn Chemistry from. I took this class 10 years ago and had to retake it because my credits expired. I learned a lot without even taking any prerequisites as a refresher. You have to read your book and go to class to listen to his lectures. He takes his time to make sure you understand.
If you love yourself DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Tests are very hard and have nothing to do with what he taught you in class. No homeworks, only 4 test and the final exam. He gives you 3 extra credit oportunities, take it or you are not going to pass the class, that was what saved me.
After taking Calculus 1-3, physics 1-2 W/Cal and ORGO 1-2 with almost all A's, I have determined this class was the hardest of all. Why? u might ask. If you are a strong visual learning u will barely learn anything from him, He finds difficult ways to make simple stuff complex. Yes, I just finish MDC and I transfer. This professor was that worse.
I LOVED THIS PROFESSOR!! He is so understanding, his class is very difficult because the material is hard but he works with students. Just study and take notes and you'll pass.
He gives you work sheets with the problems worked out step by step. Very useful when it came to studying. Accessible during office hours, do it so he can see you working hard. He makes lectures very clear but you must pay extra close attention to everything he says. It's chem 1 after all, it was very hard for me nonetheless.
Explains very well.
Dr. Smith gives amazing lectures. The best CHM professor I have ever had.
Only take him if you really want to learn chem. His test are hard because its the only way to really be good at chem. Also be interactive with him, he will be proud of you if you answer his questions during lecture.
He's an average professor, didn't learn much but it was mostly due to the lack of concentration I had because of online classes. He's fine, class is not hard. Grade consists of 5 tests and about 15 quizzes.
Straight forward and coarse heavy for 8 week class. Test no proctored, but still difficult. Lost of assignments and quizzes, 5 exams. Good luck if you choose him. Difficult to get in contact when there is a problem.
lets just say I never lost so much hair from a class before. although he lectured, I had to study the book and hire a tutor. I regret not taking it the full semester because the 8 week course was too intense, started off easy then It got super hard. Don't expect to not study, or read or try for chemistry class. You can do it! I survived. :'-)
Dr. Smith is an amazing professor he explains very detailed and is easy to understand. Homework is optional you do not get penalized if you don't do it. There are 4 unproctored exams and a final. He provides extra credit.
Dr. Gregory Smith is an amazing professor. Homework is optional and there are 4 unproctored exams and a final. He gives extra credit I love his lectures he explained very detailed and gives examples. He is very caring and always available.
Professor Smith is a really caring and smart guy, he knows his stuff and can explain to you anything if you have any problems. The class is pretty hard, there are 10 McGraw-Hill hw's, 4 non-proctored tests with a final, and 10 non-proctored McGraw-Hill quizzes. He did float around the idea of extra credit, but he never gave it. FYI: Get Chegg.
Great Professor explains well, is always making sure class understands topic, doesnt hesitate to give extra examples or help. Will help you with issues you email. Fair and doable homework and assignments. Test are also fair and not proctored.
THE SWEETEST MAN ALIVE!!!! I love this professor he is so nice and great at his jobs. he dedicates his time in making sure we understand what he is explaining and even makes us try to solve problems on our own. the only thing is that he does not answer his emails, so you would have to constantly spam him to answer. other than that, he is amazing :)
This professor will literary do anything to make you fail the class. Apart from his test being written, there is only like 2 multiple choice questions. The answers are suppose to be rounded and with the correct significant figure if you dont do so it will be wrong. 4 test one final
Content is easy but he really finds a way to make his online exams very difficult. They're not proctored, just really different from the easy examples he goes over in class. I would just take the class with someone else. It's mostly a math class. The only thing that got me an A was that I'm good at math but a lot of people struggled.
Dr. Smith is caring and will respond to emails. However, his teaching or pace can be overwhelming. The other issue is that you have to do Aleks and it does not coincide with his class. It is like you are learning things from his lecture for the test and need to learn the book for the online/Aleks. It is almost like having 2 classes in one.
Your only grade comes from exams, which are not proctored. Yet, his exams are so difficult. Lecture-wise, he is a good professor. If you have any questions he will address them. Do not beg him for extra credit, because he won't give you extra credit. Overall good professor and is great at teaching. I do recommend his class if you want to learn chem
I hardly passed and would not recommend taking this professor due to his exams being so difficult and grade heavy. There are 4 major exams and small tests that are due at the end of the month. The way he worded the exam questions made them very difficult to understand. The tests are not based on the lectures done in class.
I hardly passed and would not recommend taking this professor due to his exams being so difficult and grade heavy. He has 4 major exams and smaller tests due at the end of the month. The way the exam questions were worded made them difficult to understand. The tests had nothing to do with the lectures and were based on the book.
This is definitely one of the best professors I've had in college. All you do are experiments that are due every week and one midterm and final that isn't proctored. He is also very straight forward on how to do the experiments and is always walking around the lab to see if anyone needs help. Definitely recommend taking him.
Awful professor for intro to chem. He likes to teach everything "in theory", explains the plan of how to solve the problem but avoids actually writing it down. There's 4 tests and a final, all difficult as most questions look nothing like the examples he explained. Exams are 60%, Quizzes 20% and Final 20%. Use Chegg. He does not care to help u pass
This professor explains everything clearly. Don't hesitate to ask in class. The material you study in his pre-chemistry course is used in all future chemistry courses, including organic. He also provides PDFs with complete lecture information. Usually, I'd spend ages sorting textbooks for key info. He is supportive.
Professor smith is very nice and is very interested and knowledgable in his subject. Most of his assignments were quizzes on Canvas and ALEKS and 4 big tests that were on Canvas. My only issue was how boring the class was, he spent the whole time talking and he never gave assignments during class so it was a lot to take in.
