A lot of info to be learned, but he made it interesting and he was very organized
Organized, presents the material in a very easy to swallow manner.

He is the worst proffesor ever. All he does is talk about his kids in class, To top it off his exam questions will be like " when my daughter did this it showed.." His teaching methods are terrible, hes not inspiring, in fact he makes u feel dum
I suggest dropping this class. If you decide to stick with it though, make sure you write down any non-bio related story because chances are that it will be on the exam. Oh yeah, and make sure you are ready for lots of pop quizes w/ not much timeforeach
he's the WORST TEACHER @ rutgers.if u cant take bio 101, take expos/or precalc then take bio 101. do not take this class with transue.u do not hav to take this class, the only reason they put u in it is if ure in basic comp or alg
He makes you feel stupid just because you not in precalc or expos. He makes you learn non bio material for the first half of the course then briefly touches on bio related stuff. Waste of time. Dont bother...wait till u can take bio 101
he is a horrid teacher, get out now!!!!!!!!!!!
This guy has the biggest stick up his ass. Likes to make fun of people rather then teach bio..... don't know what his tests are like though but guess they're just as **** as he is. Doesn't stop talking about food- he should stop eating
he shined his stupid laser pointer at me and was like be quite and stop that and i was sitting with my friends and we were all sitting quitely either bio notes or taking bio notes during lecture. that douche. i'll laser pointer you! that's so 4th grade!
Maybe if you guys stopped talking during lecture and give the guy some respect then you won't have a problem with him shining his laser pointer at you. His lectures are clear and easy to follow and i enjoy his dry, sarcastic sense of humor.
Makes you feel inadequate unless you get notes from first class store. Stupid stuff you would never think is imporant is somehow incorporated into the exams.
if u realize u are at lecture and not at the mall, u will appreciate that he is keeping order so that he can teach the material and everyone can learn it. as long as you stay quiet and pay attention, u will get a lot out of this class.
Good lecturer, I thought. Very entertaining and has decent stories to try and help you remember the material. Tests were straightforward, but watch out for figures to show up on the exam.
Very helpful and very knowledgeable. He makes his lectures clear and organized. Anyone who does not like him wasn't meant to be in college. I also love his sarcastic comments that he mutters under his breath.
This guy is a nut. All he do is teaches about his daily life and expect you to memorize them on the test. He barely touches the bio material. Regret taking this class. Just wait for Bio 101, which is better.
HORRIBLE teacher. All he talks about is his daughters. Cannot teach if his life depended on it. His examns were nutz hes fukin nutz. Obsessed with time management doesnt even teach bio. Always had nasty pit stains on his shirt..get out while u!
GET OUT while you can...all he talks about is his personal like and expects you to memorize that..he is a total nut job that should be fired..has got to be the worst teacher EVER
AVOID THID GUY
Out of the many, BEST bio lecturer so far! Love his positive sarcastic humor, helps u learn material in interesting ways, definitely knows his stuff and is helpful, ppl who complain are probably the ones who are disrespectful and talked in class.
I would suggest getting a hold of someone who has made copies of the transparency notes, goes superfast and is unclear...only made it through with those transparencies and douglass notes...avoid this FREAKIN' IDIOT at all costs
Will somebody please kill this man. No matter what I did, i would get my exam back with terrible results. He likes to preach to you.. and won't shut up about his two ugly daughters. The most disapointing class. worst experience.
He is BY FAR the worst, most pompous, ridiculous professor I have ever encountered. He's an embarassment to Rutgers. DON'T EVER TAKE HIS CLASSES, unless you care about his life, or his daughters, you probably won't pass. I hear his Bio 102 is even worse. Just don't take his classes... please.
i thought he was great. the part of the course is really interesting (human anatomy and such) which probably helped cuz i actually wanted to learn about that. the supplemental stuff helps and his exams are easier than dr Martin's (still hard though). he can be funny.
I took bio 102 on bush and he was one of the lecturers. The material is quite interesting but he as a professor is no good. He knows his stuff but isn't quite good at teaching it. Here's why, he mumbles, u can only understand 70% of what he says, he makes stupid jokes about people who talk and po
Transue is the man. His material is interesting and his dry sense of humor was great. He embarassed the people who were talking and being disruptive and disrespectful, and I was one of them at times, but he was right for it.
This guy should be sent to the gilletine. sucks as a professor and his exams make no sense. He keeps talking about repetition and no one cares about his life and his daughters. He is a complete waste of time and his jokes are not funny. How can i laugh at his jokes when i know im failing his class?
To repeat what everyone else said, all he talks about is his daughters and brags about how good his class is and how everyone should take it. If you want to waste your time, take this class. You can study for hours and still fail every exam. Become one of his favorites if you want help passing.
I thought Transue was great. His exams were only on his lectures. So if you go to class, and take good notes, and study your notes you would have no problem passing his class.
I thought Dr. Transue was the best. You really had to put a lot of effort into the class because at first it looks easy, but its really not. I didnt think it was a waste of time, in fact i thought i learned a lot. I recommend anyone to take it because it helps in the long run. He is funny too!!
Ok, I thought I could handle this class even after reading all the negative comments on this website, but honestly i had to get out. He is an absoulute jerk, ****, every name in the book. You can't expect students to respect you if you talk down to them. Get over urself. I hope you read this 2.
Total D*ckhead, martin is ever better, and that was an understatement. this guy really is a troll, who was i thinking taking a class from this dude, who cares about your daughters, get over them , you won't live as long as them.
Prof. Transue goes zippity fast through lectures so having a note-taking buddy to compare notes is the best for this class! He can be funny and makes many analogies, which shows he really cares about his students. Try not to fall asleep or be disrespectful because he will stop and scold you. Also, Also, preview/browse material before class.
he catches you off guard with dumb quizes. his exams are ridiculus, a whole bunch of short essay questions you gotta memorize word for word what he's saying in his lectures cuz nothing else seems correct. harsh grader, class participation counts. study the notes after every class to do "ok". this class is a complete waste of time go st8 to bio 101
ruined me favorite subject. I'm sorry. I though this class would be intereting... but it's the same thing over and over again with ridiuclous requirments.
Previous coment is right on. He's a prick. Will rip you on the completion section of exams. Way to thrilled with his dumb stories about college roomates and chickens and lots of other meaningless crap. Totally obsessed with changing your study habbits... Don't take the class if you genuinly like Biology...he will kill it for you.
hes cool and he wants to help his students it jus sucks that you do have to know everything hes says for his exams and weekly outlines.
never have I done so much work for such lousey results
he is the worst teacher here. everyone hates him and someone should tell him this. i wish we could send him the website. his tests are so stupid and hard
past comments are right. This teacher is unbelievably painful! No matter how hard u study it doesn't pay off. Good luck getting a C and anything higher than that is out of the question. You learn bio by hearing about chicken ex.s and mouse ex.s. The final all memory and interpreting graphs, you're not prepared for it. The class's just NOT WORTH IT!
I have to say that he ruined biology for me. I never had such a bad professor or one who would make me feel like an idiot such as himself. His teachin methods are ridiculous and useless.Trust me, you don't want to take this class.Stay away from this jerk, if possible run away. He'll ruin your life and make you miserable for the rest of the semester.
AVOID this class....all he does is talk abotu his daughters...bad bad teacher
He is Awesome!! I loved Dr. Transue. He is tought but anyone can get an A in his class. :0)
This teacher has sixty different quizes throughout the semester making it virtually impossible to study. This class is like being chained to an electric chair-- no matter how hard you study, he will pop-quiz you down to an F. There is no Biology, and his ideas on studying are BS. This class is worthless.
I hear everybody saying this teacher is difficult, but if you attend the study sessions he sets up you can get a decent grade. Outlines work well too. The study methods you learn in this class help you in other classes, so it is not a total waste.
beware. Not to toot my own horn or anything, But i generally get good grades and it was too hard. This class is a struggle for incomming freshmen. Everything is taught at a weird pace and randomly. I don't know, I guess his teaching style just wasn't my type. I got a C but struggled for it.
He's one of the most engaging lecturers I've had so far, very entertaining and easy to listen to. However, some of his lectures seemed very difficult to get good notes for, and others, the notes were really easy to take. I thought his exam was much harder than Martins, but mostly b/c of the pictures. Make sure you study the pictures and go to class
Dr. Transue is great. His lectures are actully entertaining, and you will learn a lot. His exams are simple, no tricks, all questions come right from the notes. I really liked Dr. Transue and I recommend taking him if you can.
he is horrible! he has this whole intention on how to teach the class and help us learn better, but the way he goes about it is horrible. he grades the stupidest assignments and they pile up after awhile and they bring your grade down. his grades the essay sections of exams very specificly so its hard to do well. and he is very discouraging.
I loved having Dr. Transue as a lecturer. He generates a great deal of interest in the material and makes you laugh along the way. Make sure you study for his exams and take a look at the supplementals he offers. Also try not to talk during the class, he will shout you out and publicly humiliate you.
Best bio teacher ever. I loved his class because he tested you only on the lecture material and used the book as a supplement, not the other way around. Even though he's the best lecturer, you should still take his exam as seriously as any other bio prof's. Taught very interested material as well.
He was very straight forward and left out a lot of material that was not needed in class. He reccomends to go to the MSLC and use the ADAM program, I didn't, and still managed to ace his exam. Study the pictures he gives you in class, and read only what he highlights and you will do fine!! Great professor!
worst teacher ever. cant teach bio for his life. almost mid semester and we hardly talked about Bio related topics. this guyz sux
you should be fired you as***le. your arogant, conceded, proud and self-gratifying. you should be reported to the dept. no one likes you, you try to fail us. people would pass if you didnt make us memorize whole lectures word for word
This may possibly be the worst professor ever. He constantly makes referances to his daughters which have nothing to do with the class. In order to pass his exams you must be Transue himself.
he sucks. you will fail this class if you dont memorize his lectures word for word. pop quizzes all the time. you never know ahead of time about quizzes. he is absolutely ridiculous.
Everyone suffered in the class, most of the material was unclear, and the information jumped around a lot. recommend not taking the class
I had him as an undergrad and he sucks!!!! Anyone who didn't have him for bio 100 might say otherwise. I read, memorized, went to study groups and even met with the man himself and nothing helps. Why? because his exams are strictly from his lectures and he talks to freaking fast to write anything down and moves on fast to the next topic. Drop it!

Transue is a really good professor if you actually pay attention in class. His lectures are important when reviewing for exams. He points out the people who sit there and talk, so its better not to come to class if you're gonna talk. a lot of people say that he's horrible, but its only because they don't pay attention and talk during class.
Knows what he's talking about, understands the material. Keeps class interesting and somewhat entertaining. Missing one lecture will hurt your grade alot, as its mostly about the info learned in lectures. Many pop quizzes, almost ridiculous. Overall a decent teacher, but helpfulness outside of class is questionable.
Amazing teacher. I'm glad I took this class. It is tough, especially 'cause unlike the other science classes, THERE IS NO CURVE. Stresses the importance of reptition and study habits that will get you through Bio 101 and subsequent courses. You'll learn great deal from this class, not just about bio but majoring in science. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!
power point slides, but you need to pay attention in lecture to fully understand his slides. he gives you a couple of pages to read, but you might as well read everything. for the exams, he puts images from the program only found at MSLC computer lab. lots of student interaction. calls you out if you talk in class
The main 'concepts' are manage your time and how to study effectively. He is helpful on these topics but if you can learn that on your own then taking Bio 100 is pointless. It's a lot of time and info that you don't need.
Dr. Transue is a very tough grader but very fair. He bases 90% of his exams on lecture and the rest on an external anatomy program and the textbook. The people who rate him so low are probably incredibly lazy. The key to his classes are respect him, put the time in, and be rewarded with a good grade and the foundation for future success in biology
he is by far the worst professor ever and because of the failing grade i got i have to take it again... he is not understanding and he needs to shut up about his daughters because nobody cares.
I had him for concepts of bio. In general I enjoyed having him as a teacher. He's no piece of cake but if you, REALLY good notes, study for the sake of learning and not memorization and avoid cramming you should be good. You walk away with a lot of pracatical information you can use for other classes. He cares about how his students do too.
I had Dr. T for Concepts in Bio. Apart from being a wonderful human being, he is an AWESOME professor. He teached a great deal in the class, so it is necessary to come to class and pay attention AND take tons of notes. WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS!! Study in groups; don't read over your notes.
I hated his class and did not like the man at all until I went to talk to him one on one. He completely changed my study habits, and was probably the main reason my GPA was so high. The class is hard...you really have to work. Go to office hours...he'll really help you out. And give him a chance. He really is a good teacher.
He's definitely the most engaging of the four biology lecturers I've had between 101 and 102. Basically everyone ****ing about him are bio 100 kids who don't understand how demanding biology is. Everyone I know liked this guy, and his exam questions were less tricky than Martin. He goes a little fast through things sometimes.
Best bio professor. Pay attention to everything he says and go to his lectures. All of his exam questions are extremely straightforward and aren't made to trick you, unlike martin.
First of all, I got an A. But no thanks to Tranny. The guy actually teaches WRONG information. Incredible. Then you ask him about it, and he's a real ----. Second you can't just read his notes and the book, you have to go to the MSLC for a computer program. The guy is arrogant, and confusing and misinformed. He talks about doritos every lecture.
This prof. makes bio really interesting...the examples he uses actually make you remember the material in a easier way! GO TO HIS LECTURES!!! all the exam questions are right from his lecture notes... no need of the book and pay attention to the diagrams...he tends to put a lot of them on the exams!
Funny guy but pretty demeaning if u answer a question wrong or show up late or breathe too loud. Teaches a lot of non-Bio stuff (like how to study). Exam material mostly from textbook so if u don't read it u will fail (will also have questions non-bio stuff IE how to study). Have to work REALLY hard for a decent grade.
worst teacher I have EVER had!!! He makes it clear that he expects his students to study 3 hours of bio a day! My answers are his exams were 100% correct for the majority of his questions, but he will take off as many possible points if your answer is not word-for-word what he said. absolutely unbelievable. Do yourself a favor:just dont take him!
He's very clear in what he expects of you, to study a lot, be prepared for class, know the information, and practice good study habits. If you talk to him outside of lecture he really tries to help him out. Just buckle down and do work and you'll end up doing well, plus it'll help you out for bio101 the the following semester.
It never ceases to amaze me how some professors sincerely go out of their way to pinpoint disruptive people in lecture halls upwards of 200 people. Granted, while those who talk the whole time shouldn't even bother coming to lecture...he should realize that he should not keep stopping to berate talkers. On top of that he always wondered why we were
....And he always used to wonder why we were always behind schedule? Aside from this, he is a knowledgeable guy. He goes very fast so make sure you have someone to compare notes with. His exams are pretty straightforward. Attendance is necessary, b/c 99% of his test questions come from notes. The ADAM program isn't really necessary, read the book.
Dr. Transue is the man! His tests are a little tough but i really did learn a lot and it was really helpful for bio 101. He really cares about his students and even after taking the class he keeps in touch with us to set up study groups, etc. for bio 101. Take his class!
Worst Teacher ever!!! I took his class studied all the time, and still didnt help cuz he expects u to write word to word what he says in class.. Labs are mad hard harder than real bio 101.. GUY TRUST ME BIO is my favorite and still didnt do good its not becuz i didnt study but hes just miserable..
killed my gpa..dont take.. waste of time..sucks has no idea what hes doing..
he teaches u how to learn, and i know how to learn now, but not learn in his class because he makes it difficult than it is. he takes points off the exams and grades em wrong, compare ur tests with other ppl, you will see what i mean....waste of payroll
plain and simple. think like a pessimist and ull do fine.
ohmg! this teacher wants you to remember every freaking thing he says! he points you out in class if you talk! he's such a jerk. i went to his office hours and it didn't help at all. all he talks about is metacognition! wtf seriously, this class will not help you for bio 101 or bio 102, just wait until 101, this is a waste of time!
He is the most engaging teacher I have ever had. Covers materials in a funny and appealing way. His tests are hard because he expects you to the readings and study efficiently. He really cares about the students and will always have his door open if you are struggling or just need to talk about something.
Taught a trimester of Bio 102 about digestion and circulation. You SHOULD go to his part of the lecture because he makes this exam (Exam II). He mostly bases it on what he says so if you don't go you're going to do poorly. Or use the athlete's notes on studyblue. That works too.
wowwww. i wish i checked this website BEFORE i took his class. everything on here is TRUE. he only brushes up on actual bio stuff but mainly talks about how to study & TiMMee mAnAGeMenT~.. he also expects us to be studying every single day like we have no other classes to tend to. But at least he's really chill & funny..
This class honestly does not prepare you for Bio; nor give you any study skills. He is just making it harder and complicating u. Personally, the best strategy for Bio 101 is to read the book and take notes on the readings.
Terrible teacher on a mission to make course as hard as possible. Determined to prove all students are stupid and don't know how to study/take notes. Also hardly did biology. Made course an anatomy/chemistry/physics/psychology impossible to follow type of course just to prove his hypothesis of students.
If you wanna learn cognitive psychology, take this class. You will learn almost no biology. This class is extremely hard, and I literally WORKED MY BUTT OFF! It is a GPA killer and now I probably won't get into vet school. He loves to watch us fail, is of NO help, and talks endlessly about his daughter. Waste of time, made my semester miserable.
I HATE TRANNY! Not only because I failed his class. He does not care about the students. He's very biased, He makes fun of you alot. Along with his class my freshman year I had taken general chem, calc, and expos. I got a B in all those courses. I got an A in Bio 101, but his class was a complete waste of time and it lowered my gpa.
Best bio teacher ever! You don't need to look at the textbook for his exams and as long as you go to class and take good notes, you'll do fine. I got B's with other bio professors, but I got an A with him.
Transue's tests are straight from his notes. He only tests you on what he teaches in class, and that isnt a GREAT deal anyways. he goes pretty slow and its easy to takes notes and everything. People who have a tough time with him are screwed for college.
This class was effing hard. DO NOT take him. You will die, trust me. his tests are basically impossible. He asks the most random questions
Tests were impossible no matter how hard you studied, they were on one thing even though he told you to study a million different things & if you don't answer questions word-for-word how he wants you won't get any credit.
THINKING it was a 100class I thought it'd be a little better to understand. NOPEE. He barely talked about bio, mainly time management & how to study~. A girl in our class actually called him out before. I failed it even though i studied a lot. I even made my own study outlines.. barely any of it was on the exams -___-
TERRIBLE TEACHER!!! you learn NOTHING in his class. it doesnt help you with biology at all and makes you want to put a gun to your head. AVOID AT ALL COST! his test are like 5 multiple choice questions and 20 essays.
Had him as a teacher last year, and I'm still having nightmares! lets see... I got an A in CHM MAT and Expos... But a "F" in his class!! All he talks about is his daughter, hardly ever mentions Bio. Avoid his class you learn nothing, he doesn't care about his students at all, and HIS class is a GPA killer
Do not take this professor! He is so arrogant and disrespectful. Completely out of touch with the students, wastes half the class period just rambling on about stuff that is not related to class. Also, he makes fun of students for getting answers wrong. He has a sense of elitism, and makes jokes based on stereotypes like an ignorant child.
WORST TEACHER! He has made my time at Rutgers such a drag. Do yourself a favor and don't take him. Him and the TA for my class are so unorganized and treat the students like little kids. He does not help you at all, and the tests are ridiculously hard. Worst person ever! He should do the world a favor and retire then move back to his chicken farm.
Don't take his class whatever you do. The worst professor I have ever had so far in college. There is no proper syllabus or anything. Wastes too much time on other stuff. Avoid him!!!
Good guy, cares about students if you make time to see him. But as a professor NO. Tests are very tedious almost all essay based. Lectures are mandatory but a waste of time because he barely teaches any of the course material. Lab was a little better but only cause I had a good TA. Just avoid taking this class...it's not a requirement!
This professor seems like he is a good guy, but in reality he is sneaky and horrible. He is truly a GPA killer. His tests are mostly essays, and he hardly gives full credit for them. Lab was horrible because I had a sucky TA ( but he was cool). STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COURSE I WORKED HARD AND ONLY GOT A C!
I really like Doctor T. He is kind of strict but I think it is good for us to learn. Do what he asked you to do, you will get a good grade. It's really helpful to take his Bio 100 course if you are going to take 101 or more.I like this man.
he's a good guy. funny too. makes fun of kids who talk in lecture, so just dont be an idiot and you'll be fine. his exam is based only on his lecture, i didnt read the book and i got a high A on the second exam (the first is under martin). he's a little more fun and his tangents arent stupid as he tests you on those things (usually current events)
Transue is the most interesting bio lecturer. He makes sure you can apply bio to real life and he keeps your attention focused on lecture by picking on people haha. He's really helpful and goes out of his way to make study groups, pretty sure for a credit. He keeps you on track for what youre supposed to be doing. Idk why people dont rate him well!
His exam comes from his lectures, and while lecture isn't mandatory you shouldn't miss any. There's no reason to anyway, he keeps you engaged throughout and is very enthusiastic unlike most bio 101/102 lecturers. But god forbid if you talk, he will call you out! Other than that he's not bad. Refer to the book only for the figures he shows.
I found his lectures interesting, and if you attend them and pay attention you will do well. He is not trying to trick you, just trying to make sure you get the concepts. He encourages students to come to office hours if they're having trouble, or even if they're not just to chat. And science classes require heavy studying, just the way it is.
He is what every Bio teacher should be. Absolutely brilliant.
YOU WILL BE SOOOOORY! Took him for Spring semester in my first year in Rutgers. Its is not required so why make your live miserable. It is not going to prepeare you for Bio 1 and 2 at all
Recently had concepts of biology. Very hard class. He goes off on random tangents about his daughter all the time. but the class was helpful but very hard random parts of his notes are on the test and he doesn't prepare you well for it all TAs were average lectures were interesting but tough to know exactly whats on the exams n lab practicals
Recently had him for concepts in bio. he is a nice guy and its good to go to office hours. the class was difficult but if you actually do what he tells you you will be fine this class will prep you for gen bio. you get out of it what you put into it
Spends a lot of time calling people out in class, so make sure you focus all of your attention on his lectures. He knows what he's talking about, and his exam is not difficult at all.
Next to Janes, this professor is the best bio lecturer. He keeps you awake and is clear in his explanations. But it's still a hard course.. Doesn't matter who you take it with. So glad it's over..Good luck folks!
Gets distracted too easily. Keeps interrupting lectures to call out students. This one time he couldn't get over the fact that construction was going on outside and proceeded to comment on the noise in between sentences for a full ten minutes. It's a good thing ecology isn't hard to learn on your own.
This teacher is honestly the worst teacher i have ever had. His lectures will not help you at all, read the book. He goes on random stories and "learning" rants the whole freaking class. I seriously have learned nothing from him and i learned everything from the TA's in lab. His tests are so random, I've never actually hated a teacher until now.
AVOID HIM! Out to get people. He is just a miserable person who is so full of himself. He thinks he's smart, but is too busy reporting people for their lab reports and too busy focusing to see who is cheating. This guy is useless and avoid taking concepts, which is a pointless class. At least with him who goes on about random topics, irrelevant to bio
Concepts in Biology was a ridiculous class. It really lowers your grade unless you put your whole mind and being into studying every single night (which is difficult considering all the other work you may have) I honestly think this class was pointless especially if you're starting as a freshman (you really don't want to start off with a C or D)
Class is meant to be an intro/prep for gen. bio, since so many fail it. Unfortunately it doesn't count toward your degree and you are expected to put a lot of time into the class. LEARN TEXTBOOK EXAMPLES HE GIVES and MSLC slides-they make up most of exams! I kept the class for the semester, but if I could go back I would drop-only keep for A/B+
I ended up getting an F, b/c he reported me for my lab report, which wasn't plagiarism but someones lab was similar to mine (Idk how). Have to retake this class since it messed up my GPA. Took up so much of my time, I was constantly studying and yep failed. I took bio 101 and ended up with a b+, I hate Transue. Worst professor. He should leave RU!
This class was difficult but if you work hard enough, you can get to bio102. Though transue tries his best to help outside of class, he is often disorganized in lectures. Write down every word possible. The class is made more difficult by losers who talk. DONT TALK DURING CLASS. Go to review sessions. Take notes, the works, and an A is attainable.
I'm not really sure what to say about him. Transue does truly way you to succeed and reach your greatness, but the course itself limits students. We are capable of so much more and I think they went around Bio 100 all wrong, it doesn't help students nearly as much as they claim.
He is a great motivator. His classes at times seems like you are in a psych class. His exams are manageable if you put all your time into his class. His lectures are somewhat mandatory(gives clicker quizzes)I made a mistake taking this class my Freshman year.Better off taking another class and do better.
Great! teacher! honestly this was my favorite class freshman year! this class was super easy for me! just sit in the front and pay attention and take notes then just outline the chapters he tells you to 'skim'. great professor and great class definately taught me great life lessons that helped me throughout college
He is the worst teacher that I've ever had in my life. didn't even talk about Biology for the entire first month of class and when he finally did he was very disorganized and couldn't stick to one idea at a time. Make sure to pay attention to all the seemingly useless "tips" he talks about during lecture and write them down theyWILLbe on the test
worst teacher ever, im a 3.5 gpa student and do well on a regular basis but this guy is literally the worst... he tried to teach us that evolution is a law, not a theory.....
Whatever you do, DO NOT take this class. First of all, it is not a required class. The class is ridiculously hard for a 100 level. The workload is also very heavy with Lab on top. He rarely talks about bio in lecture, instead, he spends his time calling students out and telling the class ALL ABOUT NOTE TAKING. Save yourself a headache, not worth it
This course is designed to prepare you for the difficulties in pursuing a major in science, and it does. Do the preparatory readings, pay attention, and study hard. Stay organized and on top of the material or you will fail or get a D or C. He provides you with a ton of great study strategies. If you can't cut it, maybe science isn't for you.
First off, Gen Bio does not involve difficult content. That said he seems to think that any person who is required to biology should have ridiculous amounts of busy work shoved down their throat in order to make the course harder. Tests not especially tricky but not always worded well. Good Luck to all those unfortunate enough to have him.
worst prof there is in the biology dept... he is also head of the bio dept
At first I really hated Dr. Transue but after the course he is viewed as a great motivator. He can rub people the wrong way and it makes you think he is an a** but he is actually just acting how a professor should. I would suggest everyone take this course just due to the fact that it will teach you how to survive hard courses and manage your work.
His lectures are unorganized and all over the place. He gets off topic a lot and tells irrelevant stories, and thinks he's funny. He will call you out for talking and embarrass you. Just read the book, and memorize everything! Workshops are just busy work to boost your grade. Exams are tricky. Take keating or hernandez instead!
Unorganized and very unclear in what he wants. He barely talked about biology first half of the semester.. You have to try really hard to even get a B. He expects us to read the textbook when he doesn't teach us the material. Also, he gives pop clicker quizzes every once in a while, so attendance is pretty much mandatory.
Dr. Gregg Transue is very condescending. At least D'Arrville was nicer and didn't ask us why we wanted to be doctors every minute. I just don't like how he was so eager to call people out for things D'Arville would overlook. It hurt my feelings just watching those people get insulted. Also, I'm a fan of the textbook and organizers. THEY HELP!!!
Calm down. Transue isn't that bad. I feel that his lectures are pretty good as long as you focus. His examples are easy to understand, though he does digress a bit. He does challenge you for what the hell you're doing, but really, if you've never considered what he said andor find this class hard, you should probably reconsider medical school.
Transue is definitely the man. He inspires the whole class and me to take on challenges such as applying to medical school. He also believes that we can become successful doctors in the future.
Honestly, he's a funny guy and I enjoy his lectures, but his lectures can be unclear. His exams are tricky and if you put vague words such as it or thing, he will take a whole 4 points off. Basically, you have to ace the multiple choice part of the exam to do well on his exam cause he will take a lot off for the open ended.
His lectures don't teach anything and he's always behind. He's impossible to get a hold of and his notes are very minimal.
I had him for Concepts in Biology and he was awesome. It's really a class where you have to work, he's not going to give it to you easy. He doesn't tell you to do something for no reason. He's very helpful in his office hours and review sessions. He asks questions you would see on the MCATs. He makes you think.
Horrible teacher. A class like baby bio should actually teach us biology. He lectures about time management the whole entire semester. Exams are impossible to get good grades on because he wants short answers exactly in his words. If you want to continue your interest in science related majors stray away from Transue.
I thought this would be an easy class, but it is NOT. first off, his lectures are so long & he goes from one topic to another so fast, i miss some notes. His exams are based on reading material & details in lectures. He has review sessions every week. grades exams very late!!! clicker quizzes are like pop quizzes based on textbook reading. DONT !
Hardest class I've taken this semester, and totally regret it. He's one of the worst lecturers, and is easily taken off topic- he spends most of his lectures talking about time management and forming a memory more than Biology itself. Tests are extremely tough- opened ended questions were impossible. Don't take Transue for Bio, you'll regret it.
Worst teacher in all of Rutgers! This 100 level is suppose to be able giving us an intro about Bio. Instead all he teaches us is about learning vs memory and time management all year. I would have rather not taken Bio 100 and went straight into Gen Bio 115 because I did not learn anything and brought my GPA down. Stay away from Transue!!!
He is a terrible professor. He will spend more time talking about his family then he will teaching the class. His clicker quizzes are hard and so are his exams. You basically have to teach yourself and if you don't answer an open ended his way then your wrong. he looks for specific answers
In all honesty, I took something from this class and it was basically his lecture on time management. After this semester, I'm actually gonna take his advice on time management for next semester. Don't take Concepts in Bio as a way to "prepare" for General Biology it ain't worth it. I just know my GPA is gonna be bad this semester.
Now, I came in this class to learn bio. I didn't learn it from him. What I learned was how to do it on my own. His tests are VERY specific. I worked for a A, got a C, ended with a B (curve). You need to put effort in this class. You will learn, just painfully. Ask TA for help. Open ended are lecture based. MC and OE answers are very specific.
He has been by far the worst professor i have ever taken. He does not teach anything related to biology in class he just goes on and on about pointless stuff like memory and memory is not on exams. Be prepared to teach yourself everything from the book. i would never take another class with him even if my life depended on it
He has great points about how high school does not prepare us for college, but he takes to much time teaching about how we are terrible at time management. He should teach bio or teach a class called, "How to do college" with a science back ground. He has great points but he really takes to much time on it and does not really teach. Ps: Do Homework
I would not take class with transue again. he talks more about pointless stuff than anything bio related. His exams are extremely hard and he insists that he went over the hard parts but didn't. Be prepared to read bio text book every night to get a good grade. Would not recommend this class. Kills your gpa
Dr. Transue is disorganized, unclear, and condescending! His lectures are too vague and are not tangential about biology. He criticizes students that lack memory and time management, not to mention that he rants about high school! Also, there were some questions on his test that he did not go over in class. You're better off skipping Bio 100.
Most of his lectures for this class were not relevant to the subject on hand. I came into this class expecting to have a solid background of biology before going into General Biology 1. I was wrong. This class was extremely hard, but it really should not have been. Be prepared to read and answer the test questions as specifically as you can
If you want to save your GPA, stay away. You learn more psychology than biology. The biology portion is self taught and you have to figure things out yourself. Along with that his test are ridiculous. He will take points off if you miss anything on your short answers. Save yourself the trouble stay away from Transue. If you don't believe me, suffer
The lectures will cover zero material needed for the exams but attendance is still taken. Spends every lecture talking about how all the students are failing due to poor time management on our part. Extremely strict grading for open ended questions on the exams. Honestly the worst teacher/professor I have ever experienced. Your GPA will be hurting.
This class looks easy but they make it extremely tough with the exams. BIOs forms don't help. Workshop quizzes are too easy compared to exams. Extra credit is useless. This is a weed out course no matter how much they sugar coat it. They should fire this course coordinator if Rutgers wants to keep their reputation maintained.
whatever you do, DO NOT take this class. I read all the reviews on rate my professor beforehand and decided to test my luck and take the class anyway but it was easily one of my worst decisions. I ended the class with the C by some miracle. SAVE YOUR GPA and don't take the class
Transsue was a great lecturer for Bio 115. Very clear explanations. He stresses the importance of workshop. Everything on the workshop organizers is on the test to just do the organizers, pay attention, and read the textbook. Transue uses PowerPoint slides in class which have pictures directly from the text as well. Overall, I would take again.
was going into this class (119:100)very skeptical after these reviews. After taking this course I realized how exaggerated the bad reviews are. Exams are easy even tho he is a tough grader. Only got a B+ cause I messed up on stupid mistakes on one exam and got a 66. And honestly if you cnt do wel in this class you have no chance in gen bio 1 and 2
Hes was by far my favorite and inspiring professor by far. People were complaining about the course all the time but I thought the class was super easy, much easier than actual gen bio 1 and 2 so people who fail this class will most likely not do well in those. having a 8am lab tho was a pain ill admit that
His lectures do not consist of any Biology work. He just wants students to form good studying habits. Taking his class was the worst mistake ever.
A great vast majority of his lectures have to do with time management and developing good studying skills. He tends to go off topic every single class. It's frustrating because that's time wasted. I would not recommend this course.
His lectures consisted of him rambling for half of the lecture and wasting time, then rushing through the second half w his students furiously typing/writing to keep up w the slides. Workshops were a waste of time and did not help studying. Someone give this man a job teaching college students how to study/budget their time wisely.
Everyone at Rutgers should take this class. It is easy and Dr. Transue provides tons of resources if you actually care to learn this cool topic. If you are interested in bio and research and want a great GPA booster then take this class. Don't listen to the kids who did poorly because they did not try hard enough.
Does not teach, or go over any of the material that will be on the tests, in lecture. Spends most time telling personal stories that dont pertain to the subject. In order to do well in this class you must keep up with the readings which is hard because he assigns massive loads at a time, and teach yourself. youll have no idea what to study for exam
Horrible professor that does not teach. Instead, "teaches you about time management" in a biology class
If you are placed in Concepts because you didn't meet the prerequisites for Gen Bio 115, THEN DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SWITCH TO CHEM OR PHYSICS or any other class. Do not waste your time with this class. Besides having to learn the most ridiculous nonsense material that has nothing to do with Biology, it does not count towards your science GPA.
So let me start by saying that Bio in concepts was a very difficult class. Dr. Transue is not an easy guy, he is a bit impatient and kind of rude But he is a goo teacher. Take this class seriously and NEVER skip. Exams are not super hard if you know the material. Be very specific with open ended questions.
If you are placed into Concepts of Bio 199 because you don't meet requirements for Gen Bio at Rutgers, switch to another class like chem or physics. Dr. Transue does not go over any material for the test's but rather attempts to teach you time management. Expect him to update his prep assignments for lecture, the night before lecture.
Very disrespectful, unprofessional, and rude professor. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This class is a GPA sinker by all means. Even if you think you know how to study efficiently, this professor would prove you wrong by giving you Fs.
Brilliant professor and skilled in the topic he is teaching. The minute you start to feel you are slacking in his class, go and talk to him. Or else, you will stress yourself out by playing catch up every single week. Also, don't think that he will coddle you, you have to work your butt off for him to think you are worth his help.
Imagine an Egg & Spoon Race, but instead of trying to beat the other participants you all just walk directly into a wall-outlet
He doesnt teach. Thats as much as I can say. Talk to your advisor before add/drop is over and pay attention to these comments about a professor. Start with chem or physics any other course. Avoid this class at all costs. It does help with time management, since thats all he talks about, and what study habits work for you. Do whats best for you.
At first I really admired how he implemented these really big research based changes to help students learn and develop. Until I met him. He's like literally the most mean person ever. He has great studying techniques and guidance, but he looks at every student as merit. You have it or you don't. If you don't, then youre worthless.
Greg is not a good professor at Rutgers. In his lectures, the only thing he really teaches is how to manage your time wisely. When you prepare for exams, he will NOT go over any material. He makes you work for your grade so don't expect anything easy. He is the hardest grader! He will mark answers wrong even when they are partially right!
did not teach anything
Does not go over what is supposed to be talked about in lecture, no clear guidelines, zero help in class.
If you want to learn how to manage your time instead of Biology, go for it! Tests are not really hard if you know how to self-teaching. Drop it and go take general chem or physics for your own good.
I do not recommend this professor. He is rude and dismissive. I reached out with a concern during the COVID-19 remote learning situation. He was completely unhelpful and doesn't like to be questioned. Really not recommended.
Very very hard class. Professor Transue isn't going to hold your hand. If you want it, you have to do the work and more.
The moment you enter Dr. Transue's class you have stepped into the gates of hell and he is the devil. This class is far from an Easy A, It puts your high school biology to shame. Dr. Transue will not hold you're hand and will expect you to work for your grade. Go to his practice sessions as well as lectures. He adapted well to the online format.
With the 2020 semester being online, throw all the previous ratings out the window. He was clear on what he wanted you to know and was fantastic at providing you all the tools you needed to have to excel in his class. He has no hidden tricks, just content that pushed you to KNOW the content, not just memorize it. He puts highschool Bio to shame.
I have emailed this professor about 5 times and never received a response. Very dismissive and does not like to be critiqued or questioned. You will not learn anything from this class, so might as well start self studying from day 1. The only people that receive an A in this class are the ones that took years of Bio in HS.
In the beginning he was encouraging and was helpful during review sessions. However, the more we got into the semester, we learned quickly that he does not play around nor spoon feed information. At the end of the semester, in review sessions, we were teaching ourselves and looking at the prof for any sort of facial expression for reassurance.
I gained enough information from this class to prepare me for bio 115. The professor is willing to help the students understand and comprehend with the material given. He mostly wants you to rely more on lectures rather than the textbook in terms of the exams. His lecture review sessions helped out a lot so I recommend going if possible.
The class was overall easy and he does guide you through it if you don't understand. In the beginning it was a little difficult, but he encouraged me to go to his review sessions which helped my grade a lot. He does care about your understanding in the class, but only if you work for it. The test are repeats of the old test.
hes a great professor. hes nice but the class can be tough at times if you arent familiar with bio. its relatively easy to study for if you go to lecture. go to his reviews, ask questions; sometimes his lectures are hard to follow. details are important and you dont want to fall behind. he isnt as mean as everyone says, just high expectations.
Is more geared towards "yapping" about his life for the first sixty to seventy minutes of class before going over actual important material. Not worth taking this class, as even the online quizzes are out of order to "confuse" students. Not a hard class but a terrible professor.
He's a kind professor, and he does care about his students a lot. However, I wish he would have more slides about what he is teaching not just reminders. I've talked to some of my peers and they agree that having visuals would be extremely helpful for their learning. He does say what you should learn specifically for the exams in them if you ask.
Dr. Transue is a kind person, but not the greatest professor. He is very lecture heavy, but most of the time he is rambling about how a person should take notes rather than teaching the actual material. If you want to pass the class I recommend going to his study sessions because you learn more there than the actual scheduled lecture time.
Transue's class is challenging but rewarding. Attend lectures, use the textbook, and try Unstuckstudy - it can really help with prep. The workload is tough, but you'll learn a lot.
Professional “yapper”, first hour is just talking about his life, bios forms, study, or review from last lecture which is the same thing over and over again. Maybe, just maybe the last 10 minutes he goes over one thing but outside of that, doesn't teach anything. Just read the textbook and you'll be fine. Don't have as a professor. Nice person tho.
Takes up most of the lecture talking about his personal life and only 15-20 on the material. Isn't clear or concise with the material and does not explain anything. You basically have to read the book and rely on your TA's to explain the material to you.
class isn't hard if u review and he literally tells u how to take the notes so if u fail then its a personal problem ngl. only hard thing in intro to gen bio is the lab questions and three hour labs which have nothing to do with him.
Dr. Transue truly cares for his students in any of his courses. He is tough, but it's because he wants you to succeed. He talks a lot, but he connects with his lectures to help you understand the material better. Its very easy to ask him questions, and I enjoyed his teaching methods last semester. He is extremely approachable and a great professor.
Don't take this class. First 30 minutes to an hour is about his life and his "blonde" wife. No slides, just talks, and I wish he had slides because having something visual is very helpful for me but that's just me ig. He's a great guy, loved talking to him, but as a professor I just don't find him helpful. Rely on your TA's, super nice. THX KAREN:)
He literally does not talk about anything relating to the class, he repeats the same lecture every class on note-taking and gets off track, if you get lucky he might say one useful thing at the end of the class. You will not learn bio here you will learn repetition, you will have to teach yourself everything and pray you studied the right thing.
