Best prof I have ever had! He is extremely caring and will meet with students one-on-one to work through questions every day if you wanted. He explains everything in the simplest terms and his lecture notes/example questions cover everything fully. I failed this class twice before and got an A with him. Yes - he's THAT good at teaching stats!!

Greg Wagner is a good prof, but I found him quite boring. He just reads off the slides. For a course that is boring already, his teaching style makes it even more boring. I had trouble staying awake for most of his lectures. Overall, not bad, but really really boring.

If you are going to take a Stats class, this is the Professor that you should it take it from. He's a really good teacher, and he makes stats crystal clear for anyone.

Best prof I have had so far. He is crystal clear, and welcomes all questions. He actually gets to know you if you talk to him. His notes are as simple and organized as can be, and he has some really cool examples. Can't wait to have him for 252

Most awesome prof at the UofA period. All around great guy. Explains concepts fully and isn't a complete bore in class. He helps you with questions you don't understand and assists with labs. Actually remembers your name after the class is over with. Practice exams are a lot like the exams. Pay attention in class and you'll do awesome.

Awesome prof, I got mono in the middle of the semester and he was very helpful with everything. His notes are very detailed and he clearly put a lot of time into making them. Highly recommend this prof for stats 151. Tests are easy if you study.

Extremely boring. I did well in the class but he was not engaging, so it was hard to understand the concepts unless you taught them to yourself. Tests are not based on his class so beware

one of the worst professors i have ever had!!!! He is boring and just reads slides all class. He doesnt use the board for anything and doesnt teach while you write down examples, on the slides he makes you print.

I've never had a more caring and helpful professor in my 4 years at university. Wagner is a gem; he may not be the most exciting instructor, but he will do everything he can to make sure you get what you need. Exams are straightforward and based entirely on in-class examples. Homework is brutal, but dictated by the department; not by instructor.

Dr. Wagner is one of the kindest instructors I've encountered in my undergrad! He has a heart of gold, is very approachable and goes the extra mile to help his students. His notes are very straightforward and explanatory. Lecture is a bit dry but he tries to liven it up with coral reef examples from his previous research in Tanzania!

One of the best prof's I've had through University!! Stat's sucks, but he made it SO much better than any of the other profs. He is the nicest and most caring professor I've ever had. He will do anything to help you understand the material. The U of A is so lucky to have him!

Hes horrible at teaching and is very boring so its very tough to learn from him. the class average for the midterm was 51 and he bumped it up to 53 (big help) <- thats sarcasm. The only plus side is that if you go to his office he will help you. oh ya and his TAs are awful and mark the labs with very low marks compared to other proffs TAs

He had a rough time this semester and had to miss some classes as a result, but I thought he did a really good all things considered. The section-wide Stat 252 HW was stupidly hard and very time consuming(4 assignments and 5 long lab reports), so you should expect that if you take STAT 252, but he's a great prof & his exams are quite fair.

He is such a nice man and tries really hard, but unfortunately he was just not that great. He is not very clear and doesn't explain things well. I really wanted to like him because he is kind, very accommodating and wants students to learn, but he needs to work on his teaching style a bit. It was his first 252 class, so maybe he'll get better.

One of the worst profs ive had in my two years. he is very monotone, with no enthusiasm and the only reason I knew there was an example on his slides was because he would stop talking so you could just copy it, didn't even go through it. I learnt everything from the textbook and the masc reviews.

Overall his lectures aren't very helpful but it's worth attending to copy the examples. The final exam was mostly examples Greg 'copied' from his notes (same numbers and everything). I didn't use the textbook since the notes were a good reference point for examples and explanations and Greg is enthusiastic to help students outside of class.

Exams were really easy, just go through his notes and make sure you memorize the steps. It's really easy to tell the kind of questions that will be on the exam. Doing the homework and labs was difficult since there were inconsistencies with how he would teach it to us, but going to the help room maximizes your potential to do well in the course!

Greg fought with the prof from next class using that classroom just so we can have an extra 10 mins for our midterm, and then he bumped everyone's mark because "there were not enough time" despite our average already higher than every other stat class

One of my favourite profs by far. He is so helpful, kind, and really wants his students to succeed. From having a bad mark in Stat 151 to having an A in his class, it's clear that he really knows how to teach. Highly recommend him :)

Greg was an amazing instructor. I was dreading stats 252, but he made an experience that is reputed to be unbearable enjoyable. If you attend the lectures, do the practice exams, and go to him if you need help, you will do fine. You absolutely do not need the text of this class, I didn't crack it once during the semester.

Greg is the BEST STAT 252 prof possible. Do not take it with Cartledge. His notes are posted online with blanks. Go to class, and fill them in. They are great quality. Midterm and final were very based on notes. Lab exam bit tricky. Go to lab, only some TAs give step by step instructions to get 100%. Average GPA of 3.2 in Fall 2014.

I LOVED taking his class , very clear on what he teaches and he makes sure everyone understands the material. knows his students and he makes his notes and practice exam questions helpful. I have never had a prof that was so concerned about hisher students. outside the class he stops and talks to his students offering help. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!!!

I have taken two stats classes from Wagner, after dropping previous courses with other profs (Cartledge & Dessens). Wagner was by far the best from all three. Once I took 151 with him, I made sure to get into his 252 class. He likes to bump up grades for midterms and finals, he is always available at his office, really cares about his students.

If you need to take a 100 level Stats course, get into Greg's section. His notes are very clear, and he explains concepts well with lots of examples. He also made sure to leave time for review as a class before both the midterm and final. Greg made stats not seem as daunting as I once thought, which was greatly appreciated.

Greg is a really solid prof: he makes stats very understandable and manageable. His notes are excellent, he's approachable and organized. Does great review premidterm and final. Would definitely recommend him! Lectures are dull, but few people leave a statistics lecture feeling invigorated.

If you hate stats, Greg will make your life easier. Notes are systematic and easy to follow, must attend class to copy examples. The notes are not mandatory to pass the class, however, as the practice exams are identical to the actual exams. Very kind to students if you ever need him.

If you're taking a stats course, make sure you take it with Dr. Wagner. He was essential to my success in Stats and he will make sure you succeed too. Plus, no textbook! He sends you the notes WELL ahead of time and you fill in the blanks during lecture. The 50-minute class made the Midterm tough though (it was SO rushed), so watch out for that!

Wouldn't take again

While an experienced statistician, his lecture material is strongly example-dependent. Examples are not made available outside of lectures because he believes in 'active listening'. You will need to organize material outside of class in order to understand its relationships because the material will not be outlined during lectures.

Amazing prof. Not throughout all the assignments or tests did I look at q question and say we did not learn that. Everything was completely fair. If you do need him out of class he is very approachable in office hours. You can tell this prof respects his students and wants the best for them. Great prof would highly recommend

I am by no means a stats/math student but I finished the course with an A !!! The midterm is really rushed but if you do the practice exams that he provides ( which tend to be the exact same format as the midterm/finals ) YOU WILL DO GREAT! Assignments are fair , the questions tend to be similar to the ones you will go over in class!

Amazing prof.! I could just pass the prep. course in stat 151 but got an A in 252! This prof. gave clear examples and exams were fair. Even though the midterm was rushed, he gave two ways to calculate the final scores so that you won't get a disappointing grade. Take stat with him! Attend the classes and take notes! Completely easy A!

Great professor. Very clear and procedural notes/examples. Assignments and notes are closely related to the exam questions. He made many concepts easily understandable. Just make sure to pay attention in class, read the notes, and do the assignments.

I really wanted to like Professor Wagner, he seemed nice and accommodating. However he is extremely soft spoken and rushes through his lecture notes. In a monotone voice he reads word for word excerpts from the textbook, only to then do the work on the board for all the students to copy, without much explanation. I had to drop the class.

One of the best profs at the uofa. He is amazing! So nice and helpful. His notes are also so great and he is AMAZING at explaining. I got a C in STAT151 with a different proff but managed to get an A+ in 252. His sample exams and homework are extremely helpful for his actual exams.

Absolutely phenomenal. He puts so much effort into his notes - they're so comprehensive that the textbook is not necessary at all. Is willing to stop at any point to answer questions (and do so really well). Tests are IDENTICAL to his practice exams. If you have the chance to take 252 with the King of Statistics (aka Greg Wagner) then DO IT.

He was a great prof with very detailed notes. Definitely don't need to buy the textbook, just make sure you at least get the online code so you can access StatCrunch and the homework when you're not at school. Made a very detailed class seem simple, and he goes over lots of examples at every lecture.

Prof. Wagner is the epitome of kindness, and approachability. His notes and lectures are easy to follow and provide detailed explanations of the concepts. Could not ask for a better stats prof. But, don't take this course if you don't like hypothesis testing. Also, there are subtle discrepancies in terminology between the labs and lectures.

Dr. Wagner is AMAZING He cares so much about his students. He was always easily accessible outside of class and returned emails quickly. I hated STAT 151 and he made it less intimidating and actually, enjoyable! His notes are very easy to understand and his class is engaging. 10/10 would recommend Dr. Wagner's classes.

While the course itself is not easy, Greg Wagner is amazing at explaining it. He does simply go over his notes in class, but his notes are extensive and very well made. Even if you have another prof for this class, get a hold of his notes. If you do think that you will struggle with the class, then make sure to attend every lecture.

I found Prof. Wagner to be a pretty good prof. At times it's tough to understand what he's saying if you aren't sitting close to the front, but he answers emails super fast and cares about his students. His lectures involve going through practice problems, and his notes are a great study guide. The class is very tough, but Wagner is a great choice

Mr. Wagner posted very detailed, helpful notes to print off and bring to class. These notes had questions that we did together in class, really helping to build my understanding. He managed in-class time well, and I found him to be a very friendly man. I wouldn't suggest reading the textbook. Pay attention in class and do practice questions.

Greg is an okay - good prof. He starts and ends classes abruptly and speaks very monotone. His notes so detailed I found they include unnecessary things. However, he is very knowledgeable and if you put the work in you'll be fine. Do the practice exams on eclass, they prepare you best. Overall a good guy, sort of dry lectures, but would take again.

Stats is one of the nastiest classes in first year, but Greg is a pretty good prof. He's a bit dry with his lectures but does really good examples and has thorough notes. Stat 151 has awful group labs, and brutal homework though so if its not a prerequisite stay away.

Solid prof. I liked the organization of his notes after the midterm; they were meaningfully arranged. His stat 151 class is not curved (it follows the grade outline on the syllabus). Lectures might be a bit boring but he's funny sometimes. I was in a Tuesday Thursday class and we always got off at least 7 minutes early.

Dr. Wagner is the most caring and accommodating prof I have ever had. He cares SO much about his students and wants you to succeed. I was terrified of stats and he made me excel! If you are hesitant about stats in general, take Dr. Wagner. If you need to take stats for any reason, take Dr. Wagner. You have to work for a good mark, but it's DO-ABLE!

My first stats course went quite badly, and I was quite apprehensive about statistics, however, Dr. Wagner was able to help me not only do well but enjoy the material. Wagner was AMAZING. I have never been comfortable with stats before but taking this class instilled me with a lot of confidence simply due to how well he teaches. I took Stat 151 and Stat 252 which were taught by Dr. Wagner. I really enjoyed every lecture of both courses. Dr. Wagner is one of the best professor; He cares about students. Examples in his notes are clear and useful; You can get the idea of homework questions and labs by reviewing notes.

favourite professor at the U of A, His teaching method is using fill in notes where you come to class and do examples with him. His midterm and final are the exact same as the practice midterm/final that he gives, if you're crunched on time just know how to do the practices! Also very caring supportive, and accommodating to your needs.

If youre worried about stats I highly recommend taking it with Dr. Wagner. As long as youre willing to come to class, take notes, and pay attention you will be fine. His exams are very straightforward and fair, and hes a super nice guy to talk to and is always willing to clarify things if you have questions.

The class is damn easy if you had STAT 151 figured out. It's straight up lectures based. Even if you don't attend classes, it's not a biggie, just brush up the lectures provided and you'd be good to go.

Probably one of the best GPA booster options at U of A if you take this class with Wagner. I literally did not attend a single class beyond the first couple weeks and ended up with an A no sweat. His notes are fantastic and the exams are completely identical to the practice. Take this class

Gregory is awesome! Attendance is mandatory since notes are fill in the blanks, practice midterm is the same as the real midterm + he lets us know what's gonna be on there if any changes. Gives soo much help for assignments. Overall he's such a sweet prof he really enjoys teaching and wants to see his students do well.

He doesn't actually teach, just reads his overly-lengthy notes word for word off the screen. His notes overcomplicate easy concepts, each section is around 17 pages while sections of others profs are around 5. Mashes all concepts together and goes much too fast.

He showed up at least five minutes late for every lecture and was very disorganized. When it came to moving lecture online, there was an unreasonable delay in release of video lectures. I went to office hours multiple times for clarification, I'd be the only person waiting, and he would tell me he didn't have time or it wasn't his job to help.

Awesome Prof with very detailed notes on every topic, that give exact instructions for what is expected for any kind of question. He prepares his notes with the idea that you may need to actually use the knowledge from this class in the future, and so he includes some small parts that won't be tested on.

Would not take stats with any other professor at this university. Put in the time and effort and it's a road to an A for your grade. Do the practice questions, do the homework, do the labs. Notes were overwhelming at first but you realize they are actually all super good and provide very helpful examples. A gem of a professor among all others.

Wagner's lecture style is very good when it comes to Stat 151. His notes are all planned out before each year and focus directly on the midterm and final exam. If you study exactly whats on his notes you will not be surprised by any of the questions of any of the tests. He also takes his time explaining course material.

Greg made STAT 252 easy and enjoyable. His tests are nearly identical to the practice material he gives out and he provides extra resources so we're more prepared for the exam. He was understanding and spend time to answer questions when they arose. One of the best professors I've had at UofA. You won't have any worries taking 252 with Dr. Wagner.

The class was easy and exams were identical to practice. But his note packages were really, really dense and hard to study off. He also writes on the whiteboard in a large lecture hall so if you have poor eyesight, it's hard to see even if you sit at the front.

Class and exams are pretty easy but didn't find Greg to be a great instructor. Gives out a verbose note pack that's tough to follow. Greg is easily the best stats prof I've ever had. He explains everything in great detail &amp; the homework &amp; tests are actually based on the things he taught, so studying is super easy. He was very understanding for online classes over the pandemic which I greatly appreciated. Defs recommend him if you have to take stats!

I was nervous going into this course because I didn't do very well in STAT 151 but I enjoyed this course way more than STAT 151 and understood the concepts way better. Wagner is such a fantastic prof. His lectures are so clear and the homework assignments are just variations of the in class examples. Cut-off grades, so no curve. He is also very fast with emails. The labs can be a little confusing at times, but those are not made by him. Overall, an excellent choice of prof. Open book exams during the pandemic.

Professor Wagner is very good at teaching statistics. No textbook required. His notes are pure gold and you can learn everything you need from his lectures and notes. It can be a rough course (its math, not my thing) and I took it online during COVID, but he was compassionate and made it easier for us. If you can get Wagner for this class.

Lectures were dry, I think I attended maybe three times the entire semester before giving up and watching videos from other professors. I personally found Stat 151 to be very difficult, but long as you keep up with the assignments and put in the effort you should be fine.

This was a consolidated course, meaning that all the stats classes had the same assignments, tests, and prerecorded lectures, but Greg also did his own live lectures which were really helpful. Greg is by far one of my favourite professors at UofA. He has an amazing structure to his statistics courses that makes learning the material fast and easy. His tests are extremely well built and very similar to the practice tests. He also shortens lectures depending on how much he gets done. This means you can often leave class early!

Best professor at the UofA. Midterm and Final were both extremely well represented by his practice midterm and practice final. His lectures can be dull, but his notes are fantastic and have absolutely everything that you'd need to know. Email him anytime if you're confused about the labs or lecture material. Friendly but uncompromising. Ask a question in class and he'll help, ask it during his office hours and he'll say he's too busy with lectures. He won't make the effort to teach online and instead dump wordy and repetitive PDFs on you. Inconsiderate; cares about you as a student but not you as a person. Dr. Wagner was ok... I guess. I was very underwhelmed; found his class boring and dry, and his notes unhelpful. I didn't feel he prepared us that well for exams either. I recommend taking 151 with Rosana Fok- I solely used her videos to study for the final and got an A, and her class average was much higher than all other sections.

for me he wasnt a great prof for 151, but he is definitely the best 252 prof. the concepts are explained super well in class, and the in class examples are very similar to the assignments and exams. he doesnt post annotated notes but every time i was sick i could email him and he sent the notes for the day i missed. highly recommend for 252

Wagner was definitely the best 252 prof this semester. The lectures were reasonably interesting, and the course was very easy, because all of the exam questions were just like the homework questions, and all of the homework was the same as in-class examples. Wagner is GOAT! He probably is the best professor I have ever met. I had STAT 151 with him as well. Very detailed, caring, and patient. He also responds to emails as soon as possible. He didn't post notes tho, so just make sure you attend classes. Once I missed 2 weeks of classes cuz of getting sick, then he emailed me all the notes that I missed.

Great guy, his notes are very detailed and his examples are pretty much identical to the homework. Not a hard course, but does have a fair amount of work (assignments and labs are long, but you get plenty of time). Gregory is one of the best teachers I've had here at UofA. Knows the subject well and has been teaching it for many years. He's very kind and understanding. Best prof for Stats 252, I was originally in kowaloskis stats class and then switched into Wagers which was the best decision. Finals and midterms, even though were long was overall easy. I got a B in stats 151 but in this class I was able to get a lot higher. 100% recommended this course with this prof.

SCI201 was extremely beneficial in preparing me for research projects in future years or grad school, as the centre of the course was a research project itself. The workload was not too heavy but I also felt I genuinely learned a lot. Dr. Wagner was consistently available outside of class and your work reflected in your grade. Highly recommend!

SCI201 breaks down the scientific process and goes into depth about each step, very beneficial for writing research papers for other classes and grad school. Dr. Wagner is definitely one of my favourite professors at the uofa. He makes it very clear what to focus on for exams and provides very good feedback for projects. I found SCI 201 to be an especially helpful class as a student in honours psych. If you want to do anything research related, I cannot recommend this class enough, it was very helpful

One of the highlights was the opportunity to develop and present our own research projects. Dr. Wagner is a very caring prof who creates a very supportive learning environment, providing us with clear guidance. The exams are manageable and fairly easy. Gregory Wagner is a fantastic stats professor. His class is well-structured, with clear notes and fair exams. Attending lectures is a must, but it really pays off. I found ChatGPT and unstuck study super helpful for exam prep, alongside the practice questions.

Greg rocks so hard! Stats is not an easy thing to teach and from someone who struggled so much in 151, he does an incredible job teaching the material. His notes seem heavy but are easy to follow and describe everything you need to know.

The notes and practice problems are exactly like the ones on the exams. I found it super easy to follow the notes and apply the knowledge. Yes, he does just go over the notes in class but still helpful and listens to his students. Never found stats easy and but Wagner makes is super simple

Unpopular opinion, but Wagner is a decent prof at best. While he's kind and caring (some call him a loving grandpa), his popularity stems from his insanely easy tests. He solves a few problems in class, the same ones appear in hw with different values&#8212;and then again on exams. I learnt nothing but plug-n-chug in this course. Easy GPA booster though.

This course is not for you if you are looking for mathematical stimulation. It is about understanding logic, processes, applications of statistics, and repetition. The midterm and final were reflective of the course content. Most of the homework was similar to the practice problems. All labs were individual. Attendance was necessary for notes.

If you liked STAT 252, this course will be enjoyable too. Don't stress about selecting a topic and writing reports, everything is very formulaic and you can make your topic about anything. If you anticipate having to do research in the future, definitely take this course. It gives you the knowledge to feel more confident when conducting your own research and Dr. Wagner clearly cares deeply about his students doing well in the course. Fill-in-the-blank PDF notes are provided, as well as tons of practice questions. I recommend attending class, so that you can fill in the notes during the lecture, since the filled-in notes are not posted(but you can email Dr. Wagner if you miss class). I also suggest attending the lab help sessions. The assignments and labs are fairly easy.

He's a decent guy with a lot of good stories to tell, but his actual class delivery is slow-paced and the course is structured such that very little actual learning is required. You can plug and chug this class, it's not hard, but don't expect a lecture that makes you want to come back.

He's ALWAYS available to help (& doesn't get annoyed!) so if u don't use him a resource & are unhappy with ur grade, that's entirely on u ngl. SCI 201 really helps in the preparation of research projects that you would need to do in other courses. The individual mini-research project is the highlight of the course which is not a heavy workload but rather provides the opportunity for a hands-on experience in conducting your own project! Professor Greg makes SCI 201 a really fun and easy elective to take if you're looking for a 200-level science course! After taking both Stats 252 and Sci 201 with Dr. Wagner, I couldn't recommend him enough. Truly the best professor at the UofA, he wants all his students to excel which is reflected by his detailed notes and lectures. He goes through every problem, so that questions on exams are never a shock. I wish he taught more classes!

One of the best profs I've had. Made sci 201, super interesting and really easy to follow, even if you haven't taken stat 252. The research project seems like a lot of work but you do it in increments so its super manageable and really interesting. Take this class if you can and if you want to get into research, it'll help you a lot.

slow paced lecture. I don't like how he sets up his notes(one pdf for an entire topic, ~60 pages). while reviewing the notes it is hard to find specific concept or example. most of his examples are biology related, which made things more complicated for people that stopped taking bio after grade 11.

Wagner made the course so interesting that it makes me want to take another stats course for fun. Never felt rushed during the lectures, we went through all the material throughly.
