This class is easy if you're a junior or senior m&m student. I barely went to class, didn't buy the book, and studied 2 or 3 days before the test to get an A. The professor is also very helpful because he holds review sessions weekly where you can ask questions and look at old tests. Also, do well on every test and you don't have to take the final.
It is not as easy as everyone makes it seem. You have to study a lot. Learn everything on the PowerPoint and read the book. Especially make sure you learn everything in the beginning and review the information. He gives you the opportunity to review tests- do it because he uses some questions on tests from old tests. Drops lowest test grade.
NOT an easy A. The material isn't hard, but it is a heavy work load. I didn't expect that at all. Lots and lots of reading (powerpoints and textbook). I recommend reading the book and using his powerpoints as a guide. NOT an easy A, maybe an easy B. Don't take it lightly!
I found class very boring so I skipped A LOT of lectures. But he does give out study guides before exams so make sure you get those. If you study properly, reading the book and slides you should get an A.
Definitely not an easy class. You have to study A LOT unless you can memorize a lot of material easily. Weigel knows it is a lot of material and he does his best to make it fair. lowest test grade gets dropped. Fascinating subject and you will learn a lot! i studied hard and got a B. study the study guides!book not mandatory but is helpful
Loved this class. Drops lowest test grade and the next lowest can be replaced by your final grade. Had an A and didn't have to take the final. Didn't touch the book and just read/memorized/understood the powerpoints. Stopped going to class 1/2 way through the semester...gives study guides which are helpful. Funny/interesting professor...great class
Brilliant teacher. He made immunology one of the most interesting and enjoyable science classes at UCF. Very fair and down to earth. There is quite a lot of material in this class, but his teaching style makes it easy to REALLY learn the material (as opposed to the typical regurgitate-and-forget!) Great professor!
Dr. Weigel's lectures are very understandable and he makes learning the material easy. He does a great (and usually humorous) job reviewing and emphasizing the material in class. He makes the grading very fair and easy to get an A in the class!
This class is not necessarily hard, but it does require a lot of studying and memorization. Professor Weigel is extremely helpful, and going to class definetely helps. The book is a good resource, but all of the questions come from the lectures and powerpoints. Entire grade is composed of tests, so study hard and do well on them. Good luck!
Fantastic professor, but a very difficult class. Dr. Weigel is very laid back, comical, and helpful. Take him, but be prepared to study and work hard for a good grade!
An amazing professor who really makes the lectures and labs interesting. He's a funny guy but at the same time, you do remember a lot of what be teaches because you remember funny scenarios he makes. The tests are fair, final is optional. It's easy to get a B but you'll have to work hard for that A. It's achievable.
HE IS GREAT! Best prof, helps you understand all concepts while he teaches and makes it much easier to remember and understand when you go back and study. I recommend reading the chapters at least twice and listening to his lectures. Exams are not too difficult, if you put in the work you will get and A
Took in summer, received an A. Great professor and makes learning fun. As long as you put in the necessary time to study you will find the class easy. There is a lot of material on each test but they build on each other so by the last test the majority of the info has already been learned from the previous tests. Optional final, Don't need textbook
I don't see how people say his teaching style is fun? He reiterates the powerpoints word for word, and these "examples" talked about on here are nonexistent. "this can't do this. so if you are this, you can't do that" are the only examples you'll get out of lecture. I'm not bitter, but this class is over-hyped, extremely dry, and you obtain nothing
Awesome professor! Took this class with 17 credit hours and still got an A. Go to lecture, it helps. Drops lowest test and replaces second lowest with your grade on the final if its better. Go over powerpoints and do the study guides, they are pretty much the test verbatim. Its pretty much memorization. Wish this guy taught immuno at med school..
MY 1st C ever!!!! The class was particularly hard for me and I struggled lot!!! He makes the class doable must you must take it serious and WORK YOUR BUTT OFF even for a C!!! 6 test (your grade is based on it... GIVES YOU ROOM TO MAKE MISTAKES
Not going to lie, this class is NOT EASY.I took this class summer A and received a B by basically devoting my entire weekend to studying each exam, they were on Mondays. Really nice, clear info, very interesting, does not curve, only rounds grades with a .5 up. 6 tests if you take all lowest is dropped and next lowest replaced. still drops lowest!
I absolutely adored this class! It is a LOT of material and difficult to know everything for the exam, but it is doable. The subject matter is interesting and presented well by Weigel. He is very nice and wonderful during office hours and discussions. He wants you to learn.
He tries to make the class interesting, but I found it boring and it was the class that I blew off the most. Do his study guides! Attend his help sessions, he wants you to succeed.
His ppts are thorough. Tests are based off of ppts. Refer to book to get clarity on ppts if confused. Book is very detailed so studying from it is overcompensating. Gives outline for all tests except 1st. Outline covers whole test. Drops a test, including final. So do well so u can skip final. Got an A
His slides are thorough but highly disorganized. I don't think you need to listen to him once to take his tests; all of the info is on the slides. There is a ton of information but his tests are elementary; if you can keep track of everything he doesn't trick you. He drops a test and replaces your lowest with final- no reason for lower than an A.
This guy will try his BEST to keep you interested. Take this class, it's a little bit of work but I enjoyed it! If you go to class(sit in the front), study the PowerPoint, and the book(spend about 5-10 hours studying before each exam) you will do great! Not hard but does require effort on the student. You will enjoy the class if you work at it!
Probably the best science professor I've had so far! He tries to make the material interesting. His tests are a little bit tricky but definitely doable if you put in the work! You can do terribly on 2 tests and still get a good grade in the class. Studied pretty hard, got a B.
This was my first bio class after bio1. I found it very difficult. After an F on the first test and D on the second I asked a smart girl in the class to tutor me for $10 an hour and she helped improve my grade by a letter each test except the last two.+ i studied more, did the study guides that people post on the pcb3233 fb page nd piaza. got a c!!
Awesome professor. Gives review guides to help you study for the tests EXCEPT for the first test. Read the text and your gold. :)
Awesome professor! He keeps class entertaining! Study the power points! 6 exams total but he only keeps five so final exam is optional! He gives study guides for every test except the first one. Do the study guides!
Immuno is not easy! its a lot of info,You must study everything. He makes this class a lot easier,he covers everything that will be on the test at least once and he repeats a lot. if possible listen to the lectures and make notes, since its easier than doing it in class sometimes
Each exam has around 200 powerpoint slides you have to know. I wouldn't suggest waiting until the last minute to study for the exams. The book isn't really needed as long as you can memorize the slide back and fourth you'll be golden.
Go to class, listen to the lectures he records and know the important slides (he'll point them out) and you'll do fine.
Weigel is very funny during lectures and will keep you paying attention. He gets side tracked easy but it keeps it interesting. He does recorded his lectures which is helpful. Follow the slides and read the book to study and you will do fine.
This class is not a lot of work, it is simply just memorization. Which I suck at. There is no logical way to learn immunology without blatantly memorizing the material. That being said, he does try to hint at the thinks that are important. He expects students to use all their free time studying this material. Sorry bro, we have other classes too..
Professor Weigel is very nice. There is a lot to read and memorize but if you know the slides you're good. He drops the lowest test score and the final replaces the other lowest test score. If you work for it , you will get an A.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN MICROBIO OR ANOTHER ADVANCED BIO COURSE. The only requirement is Biology and that's a joke.
Professor Weigel was amazing! He made lectures reallllly enjoyable and he turned a boring subject into something really interesting. His class and tests are really easy, and because of this, I slacked off a bit toward the end and ended up with a B. Be consistent with reading and knowing the material and getting an A won't be too hard.
I was not sure what to expect in terms of difficulty when I went into his Immunology course. I finished the course with an A and a lot of new insight to the immune system. Between dropping the lowest test of his 6, and allowing the final to replace a grade, there are many chances to succeed in this course. Would take again 10
I loved this class! Weigel is now one of my favorite professors here, so helpful! I was at a C before the final, only needed a 77 on the final to make a B, got a 75 (leaving me at a 78.8), instead of the C+, I got a B-. I could have done way better with more effort, if you go to class and put in effort you'll get an A or B. Definitely recommend!
I loved this class ! I came into the class thinking it was going to be easy, but this class does require a lot of studying ! I got a 66 on my first exams & all the other exams I made A's easily once I buckled down on studying. He is very helpful during office hours. He truly cares for students & their success in his class !
Prof Weigel is SUCH AN AWESOME PROFESSOR!! Records lectures and post them online.. i mean which professor have ever done that. so you dont have to attend lecture i guess, but GOOOO, he is soo funny and attendance will help in understanding the material, I wish he thought all the courses for my major, I really enjoyed his class!
You can tell Weigel is really passionate about what he teaches! He holds extended discussions in case you need help with the material. Six tests, lowest is dropped, second lowest replaced by the final exam grade if it is higher. You NEED to read the text and listen to all of his lectures (he posts them online after class) if you want to pass.
HE'S AMAZING. His lectures are interesting, he lectures exactly what you need to know for his tests and for your major. Do the study guides and listen to his lectures (he records them for you) and you will pass with an A. One of the best professors at UCF. Go to his sessions after class so you can review what you did wrong in the tests.
I'm a Junior and he is my favorite professor thus far. He makes you remember the material better because he's funny. My favorite line: "Woahhhh! It's like a library of peptides in the thymus!" haha. He records lectures...I barely even went to class. Gives 6 tests so keeps you on track. I got a B but could have gotten an A had I gone to discussion.
This class was super easy and very straight forward. He has lectures which he posts on webcourses and the tests are from those and the powerpoints! Great class!
Weigel is amazing! Definitely would take him again! Theres 6 tests all semester, including the final but if you have a high enough average you don't have to take the final. All the test questions could be found in the power points. He posts study guides and is amazing about it. Lectures are recorded. Makes immunology fun! Take him!
Weigel has great lectures, he also has them on audio. He drops 1 test and replaces one with final grade. Got me from a D to a B! Easy final, cumulative but only general points. Wish he taught more classes.
Listen to recorded lectures and read! Not an easy A.
He is a great professor who is there to help if you need it. You need to go to discussionSI for a clear cut summary of the course. He says test question scenarios in class so going is important but he also records it so you can listen to it over and over. Funny guy, very entertaining. Drops lowest test. replaces 2nd with final.
Great professor that makes lectures interesting. Read chapters and powerpoints before hand. Go to SI sessions. and what helped me in the end was to summarize the powerpoints and basically make your own study guide because reading 150 slides before exams doesnt work. he goes through material fast so keep up!
Nice guy, he is willing to help you out whenever, he is pretty relaxed and easy to relate to. The way he grades his class makes an A doable but you have to find the fine line between all the stuff he teaches in lecture vs what is actually going to be on the tests which are pretty broad and straight forward but you HAVE TO understand the material.
Took the lab, you had daily quizzes which you HAVE to study for. They were pretty tricky but if you studied about an hour or two before it, you should be fine.
Very skilled lecturer! He knows the material and tells you about it instead of just reguritating PowerPoints. (Ambivero could take a lesson from him.) I relied on the textbook instead of going to reviews or SI. If you read the chapters before going to class and review the PP's A's will be had! He stands out as one of the better educators at UCF
Professor Weigel is by far the best professor I've had at UCF. He truly knows how to TEACH instead of blatantly reading off of powerpoints and expecting you to magically understand it. I've cracked open the book only 1 time and got all A's on my exams solely by reading the powerpoints. Take him, you'll have a lot of fun!
Prof. Weigel is wonderful! One of my favorite professors hands down. He is a great lecturer and really helps put what you're learning into perspective. Read the book or powerpoints before class so that you can just listen to him, it really makes a difference. He teaches very well and lets you view your old tests, you can get an A, just study!
Weigel is everything you would want in a professor. His lectures are hilarious and interesting solely because he makes them that way. very passionate and interested in his subject and he will make you feel the same way. It's a more difficult class but he makes it to where his power points alone suffice, book not needed! TAKE HIM WITHOUT A DOUBT
Favorite Professor. He post his lectures online and he's hilarious, I loved listening to him. It's alot of material, some people complain but its because their lazy! If you read, listen to the lectures and do the study guides you should get an A. 5 exams + Cumulative final. Drops the lowest grade and Final can replace second lowest grade if needed.
I am a junior year and Weigel was by far the best professor I have taken at UCF. Even though he is really good it is still not an easy class, but it is an "easy hard class" if that makes sense. Listen to the recordings and if necessary, pause, go back and TAKE NOTES! Book is not necessary. You can drop the final if you did good in the first 5 exams
Weigel has been my favorite prof. so far. I have literally gone to one lecture, and listened to the rest of them online and I have an A. Didn't buy the book. You definitely do need to study, but he makes the lectures interesting and doesn't just read straight off the power points. He is hilarious! Be prepared for a lot of coca-cola drinking ;)
Fantastic professor! He's very knowledgable and works hard to get the facts to stick in your memory. The recorded lectures were very helpful. I would listen to them 2-3x. The book is easy to read and clarifies his powerpoints and lectures but I would say you could get away with just listening to lecture and studying powerpoints. Easy A!
Tests are not too bad. They are detailed but not impossible if you take the time to study the powerpoints. All power point base. Attending lecture saved me since I would neglect to listen to the recordings if I missed class. Impossible to pass if you do not attend or listen to recordings. Spend at least 10 hours per test and you should be good!
Really cool guy. Records lectures and posts them after class so it's not necessary that you go to class but I would recommend it. Posts PowerPoints before class. The tests come from material on the PowerPoints but sometimes the book helps clarify. The tests are very easy for the complexity of the material but you must learn it and not just memorize
Excellent professor. Tests could be much harder and I have a feeling he deliberately makes them easier than they could be considering the material. Funny guy, willing to help, and goes over difficult concepts multiple times. A lot of tests, but the final is optional and lowest test grade is dropped. Records lectures too, which is a big help.
You NEED to study for this class. Not easy, but definitely doable. Rounds 89.5 to an A. Go to class/listen to his recordings. Great professor and interesting material. 5 exams, 1 final. Lowest dropped, final replaces 2nd lowest. Would take again :)
Took over Summer (6 weeks) and it was INTENSE! One test per week, and two the week before the final. Drops lowest, final replaces second low. MUST attend OR listen to recorded lectures to pass. He is very clear about what you will be tested on, he makes exams a little easier for you too! Study and you will get the good grade you deserve!
He is a really passionate about what he teaches and cares for his students. I took his class over Summer A term. There was an exam every week and 2 exams on the 5th week but he drops your lowest and the final replaces your second lowest grade. An A is definitely doable in his class if you attend, understand the material, and read his powerpoints.
Professor Weigel is amazing. He goes over difficult topics multiple times and doesn't try to trick you on the test. Don't buy the book, maybe rent it but you can do well just with his power points and recordings. Don't go in thinking that's an easy class. You do have to study and memorize a lot of stuff, but it's very interesting :)
Professor Weigel is amazing. That is very hard to come by in a professor just saying. He makes you work for your grade, but he also teaches the course with so much passion that it is hard not to get into the material. I would say go to class, but its not absolutely mandatory.
This is a professor you would want to go have a beer with. Also, he adds extra points to each test, drops your lowest grade, and replaces your second lowest grade with the final. As long as you study, you will pass. Immunology is an awesome class!
If youre Biomed, he's prob gonna be the nicest prof. you'll have. He takes a complex subject & tests you on a High School Exam Level. Each test had like "whats my favorite Drink?" and silly questions like that. He's super generous with test! This class is easy BUT DONT GET COMFORTABLE. If you put in decent amount of time final will be cake.(It was)
Professor Weigel is amazing :) He records lectures (listen to them!) and posts reviews for you to solve (do them!). I got a 99 on the final (cumulative) by reviewing all the reviews before the final. It's definitely not an easy A but if you put in the time and effort you will do well. He also makes the subject super interesting and fun. Take him!
An excellent teacher, he knows his subject very well and is an excellent communicator in explaining new immunology concepts to new students. Although his tests are not easy per say, everything on the tests are from his lectures and ppts. And this guy wants you to succeed, really.
The class itself contains a lot of material. I think he's one of the better professors around. Read the powerpoints multiple times for tests. I read the textbook but it's not a must. His lectures are not boring at all. His tests are very straightforward and if you studied at all you should get at least get a B. Drops lowest test grade.
I LOVE THIS MAN! I was so lost with out him. I had no idea immunology could be this interesting!
Amazing professor! Always looking out for his students and you can tell he wants the best for them. He always tries to simplify confusing information by using the class and does a great job with it. One dropped test and your final replaces the second lowest test score. Make sure to keep up because there is a lot of content and tests every few weeks
Weigel is an alright professor. He is funny in class but he goes on random tangents a lot and does dumb examples that aren't practical representations of what you need to know. You are grades solely on tests so you better do well on them but he drops one and the next lowest can be replaced by the final. Study the powerpoints and you will get a B.
Professor Weigel is great! He's really funny, and not many show up to class bc he records + posts lectures. This class is NOT a fluff class, get ready to memorize his powerpoints. But his tests are very straightforward, as long as you memorize everything you can totally make an A. His drop lowest test, replace second lowest with final will help!!
He is superrr cool. best professor i have ever had in my college career so far. Understand the material well, not just memorize, and you will do well on his tests. They are straighy foward but he might trick you on the answer choices.
Great professor. Makes lectures not so bad. Showed up first class not knowing what I was getting into but passing is definitely doable. Lots of info but go to class AND listen to the lectures and you'll be fine. Only grades you on tests but drops one and replaces the lowest with the final. I didn't take the final and used it as my drop grade.
He tests based on memorization of the content, not so much on understanding. I suppose Immuno is better in a regular semester where there is time to memorize every detail but I took it in the summer. Just memorize his powerpoints to the t and listen to lecture recordings and you'll be fine.
He talks too fast in class and expects you to know everything that he says. Sometimes test questions come from topics that haven't even been discussed. Unfortunately he's the only prof at UCF that teaches immuno so just read ppts a lot
Prof. Weigel is very fair and knowledgeable. The people complaining below clearly didn't come to class or listen. He literally goes over everything in class; you simply just have to show-up, listen and engage with him and the class. Go home and study a few hours a day and that should be sufficient. It was a 6-week class, it really wasn't that bad.
Professor Weigel is hands down the best professor I have ever had at UCF. His tests can be difficult, but if you study powerpoints, attend lectures, and study the study guides he provides you'll do great. He really cares about his students and makes an effort to help you out as much as possible. The book isn't required, but I recommend it.
Goes on tangents and expects you to mnow everything before lecture begins. Powerpoints are crucial in this class, especially slides he skips over... Tests are difficult and unforgiving unless you have a godly memory.
When the class average is a 60% there is a problem with the exams not the students. You have 50 minutes to answer 50 questions which is fine if the questions are straight forward, but the questions are poorly written. I would rather have all the questions to be free response rather than multiple choice that can be interpreted 100 different ways.
I don't understand the 2 previous reviews beneath me. Weigal is an amazing professor. Do not read the book. All you have to do is go to lecture, relisten to the lecture recordings (which he does for you), and just study off the slides. Drawing everything from memory step by step is an amazing way to study. Study like this and you'll ace the exams.
This class is horrible STAY AWAY!! I took this class because he had a 4.2 rating but his exams are written poorly I studied weeks for his exams, read the book, youtube, study guide, recordings, still got a 60. Even memorized some lines in his recordings and didnt pass. This class is super tough and I have a D in it right now.
Class average for test his is 60%.... 400 + students. He is likable but thats not important when the grades come around. He talks way too fast and goes on run-on sentences frequently. Recordings help but tests are very hard.
UCF knows how to partner up with the professors to make sure students fail and have to retake courses. More students failingmore students having to retake the course, hence more money in UCFs pocket. Its a no brainer.
He's an alright professor. I mainly studied his power points and read the textbook. to study for his class. Attendance is not mandatory because he records his lectures and posts them online.
everything from the past on here is a lie he's changed everything very hard class now
Weigel is a walking immunology encyclopedia. Didn't go to lecture (no attendance) and just transcribed his lecture recordings since that's what his exams are based on (mostly memorization but can be tricky!). Read the textbook for supplementary info, but not necessary. Can be a little time consuming but it would be good to do so for that A.
Heres a brief overview of weigels exams A Only a B Only b Cboth a and b D neither a or b E a sprinkle of A with a dash of B F one cup of A and six ounces of B
Immunology.. Lots of Powerpoints to memorize. LISTEN TO LECTURES. Weigel is fantastic at teaching. Tests are tricky, final has repeated questions and is generally easy. Key to a good grade is memorize time and space of everything. You fall behind, you fail the class because knowledge is cumulative in the class. Lots of content overlap. Good luck ..
The course is not easy at all. Everything is based off memorization which is easy if it wasnt the entire course... but it is. His lectures are amazing but his exams are very tricky. Good luck. I would suggest Going to every review he has and listening to lectures over and over. If you have a full time job.... good luck....
5 exams and cumulative final. The exams build on each other, so you cannot forget the materials once you took the exam. 2 points EC every exam. No curve. Drops lowest exam and final replaces second lowest exam. STUDY ahead. Listen to recordings, they help tremendously. Go review the tests!
Grade determined by 5 out of 6 tests (can skip final). Tests are tricky; you really have to know the material inside and out. But, he posts powerpoints plus he records lectures. He is fair and understanding, and interacts with students in class. He tries to keep it light by making jokes. Can be dry at times, but he tries his best.
The only grades are test- 6. One test gets dropped, including the final. He makes jokes during class, records his lecture, posts power points, and makes study guides. He tells you what you should know and always reviews information. This is a cumulative class. Its not easy to get an A but its definitely attainable by studying.
IMMUNOLOGY LECTURE.... 6 Exams, lowest score is dropped, and second lowest score is replaced by final exam score. Great professor who cares about student success. He is a funny lecturer and interacts with students in class. Make sure you study and use all resources!! Do not miss lectures. Very easy to fall behind. I Definitely recommend.
Weigel is an intelligent man so he can go on and on during lectures and tends to talk quickly. He records all of his lectures though and he posts them on webcourses. Listen to the recordings, study the powerpoints, and understand time and place of things and you should do well.
Name a more iconic Professor. 10/10 would recommend. You don't need to go to class or read the book unless you want more clarification on some topics. Just listen to the lecture because he tells you topics you need to study. Memorize the all powerpoints ad you'll be gucci.
Weigel is a great professor. A good amount of people do not do well in Immunology, but if you go to class and take attentive notes, listen to lectures after class, make flashcards and study them as soon as possible, and attend the review sessions (which he is not obliged to do), you will most likely receive an A. MEMORIZE the powerpoints!!!!!!!!!!
Weigel is great. Most students who don't do we didn't put in the work to do well. This class isn't a cake walk but Weigel gives you all of the tools you need to be successful (lecture recordings, discussions, reviews). Make sure to get the first few chapters down pat and the rest of the semester will be easy. Listen to recordings!
Weigel is awesome! He's always trying to keep thing interesting. His recordings are useful because he repeats important topics that will be on the test multiple times in them. I did well in this class by listening to the recordings, going to SI, and going to his discussions. This is a medium/hard class so I would definitely study as you go.
One of my favorite professors here at UCF. His lectures are fast paced but he records them and puts them online for his students. Weigel does a good job of talking through difficult concepts and makes it easier to understand. The grading is simple with one dropped test and the final replacing another low test score. I would highly recommend.
He is the best professor I've had at UCF! He's awesome and really cares if you care about the class! Lectures are recorded online, and tests are straightfoward with 2 chances at a drop exam grade. Best class expierence so far at UCF I've had.
Easiest class ever!!
Mannerisms might be annoying to some. Records lectures. Drops lowest, final replaces second lowest. Immunology is very dense, but if you put the hours in you can do it. First test is easy, each one gets harder and more complex. Final is back to more basic concepts, brought my grade up 4%. Average class grade 70%
Prof. Weigel is AMAZING! I took him for immunology and learned so much. He uploads all his lecture recordings but I encourage going to class b/c it makes the material easier to understand. Be prepared to study. He does drop 1 test and then replaces your 2nd lowest test grade so very forgiving.
Great teacher! Re-listen to recorded lectures and pay attention to the questions that he asks the class during the lectures. Focus on the power point and know everything that he tells you to know on it and you will do well. All I did all semester was go to class, listen to recordings, and make quizlets to test myself on the material. Study hard.
Prof Weigel was amazing! His exams are not tough (unless you dont study) you MUST study for this class if you want to pass. He explains everything really in depth and with lots of details. His class is based on 5 exams plus the final which is cumulative. He drops the lowest grade.
Grades are solely tests. Lowest test (including final) gets dropped and second lowest gets replaced with final if the final is higher. You have to really put in the effort in this class. Don't data-dump! The material will come back to haunt you. Sometimes I have nightmares about the complement cascade.
Not an easy class by any means but very fair with a drop test and replacing exam grades with final if it is higher than your lowest. Recorded lectures are very helpful for knowing what will be on test and somewhat entertaining. Attendance not mandatory.
Weigel is amazing. He is super down to earth and if you listen to his lectures and ask questions, you'll get so much out of this course. It is a lot of memorization but put in the time and you'll be fine. Lowest test is dropped and final replaces the 2nd lowest. Do well enough on the first 5, and no final. Definitely recommend this class.
Absolutely horrendous teacher. Way too much specific information for an undergraduate course. The professor is cocky and rude when you approach him. He replies to his emails quickly, but makes you feel like an idiot in the process.
He talks very fast and uses abreviations that you dont get until the end of class. Immunology is a new language. Make sure to read all the slides and use the book to confirm. An A is possible but requires a lot of work.
Awesome professor, the material is crazy difficult and not intuitive. There is almost no order to cytokines it will jump from CR 9 to CR 25, because there is seemingly no linear order and how they decided to name things in Immunology. You don't need the textbook, only the powerpoints, and if you don't listen to the lectures GOOD LUCK.
Information can be confusing at sometimes, but is a really nice guy and records and posts his lectures so you can re-listen to the lectures, so you don't even have to go to class if you don't want to. 5 tests and a final. Final is optional if you are ok with your average of the 5 tests, and the final can acts a replacement for your lowest test.
Super fast-paced, expect to learn between 100-250 pieces of info/concepts every 2 weeks per test, class average score 60-75ish. Overall he's great, funny lectures that cover the test material well and posted online. Amazing during office hours/discussion. Grade consists only of tests, no curves or EC but one dropped. Very difficult but worth it.
If you enjoy rote memorization, you will like this class and likely excel. If you are more application-oriented, it will probably be the "dark horse" difficult class of your semester. The material can get tedious and confusing, and on top of it tests are designed to weed out people who are "strategy" test-takers. You really need to know this stuff.
Amazing professor! He makes the class very interesting. He has a sarcastic sense of humor. The keys to success in this class are the audio recordings and power points. He REPEATS a lot, which are major hints. He makes himself available almost everyday with his reviews and discussions. The only way to fail is not putting in the time and effort.
Cool professor, easy-going guy. Only grades are exams, final optional if you're satisfied with your grade. 1 drop. Possible to get an A just with the PPTs, but I have trouble memorizing things without understanding concepts; reading the book made me appreciate Immunology way more. I'd recommend it, chapters aren't that long. Tricky but fair exams.
Best professor at UCF, hands down. Even if you don't find Immunology intresting, Weigel will teach you to love it! Amazing professor, records lectures, and explains material super clear.
Lectures are hilarious! Weigel just has a way to make Immunology not so boring (it can be very dry) he records all lectures and will post study topics. Exams are all multiple choice, and if need be he will work with you if need to move an exam, or take the final early. Definitely study hard and if exam 1 was hard, go back because it only builds!
Weigel makes himself clear at the very beginning of the semester how hard this class is and how much you need to put in effort to get the grade you want. Everything you need to know for his tests are available 24/7 from recording, powerpoints and videos being online. Dont take this class if youre lazy because its really a class you have to work for.
Make sure you're ready to work for your grade in this class. The material is pretty challenging to grasp, and it's really easy to get behind, and Prof Weigel makes that clear. He drops your lowest exam grade and replaces your second lowest with the final, but the exams are the only grades you have in this class so make sure you take them seriously.
Be ready to read and memorize a lot of stuff, 50 question each exam all multiple choices. Memorize the PP, listening to the recording, and write down all single question that he ask, and you should be fine !! Work hard and u will end with A !!!!
1- listening the audio while taking notes will help you a lot; most of the specific questions on the test come from the lecture. 2- read and understand the power points. 3- read the book for further clarification of concepts ( very easy to read). Finally, come to office hours and ask questions !!
One of the best professors at UCF! A is possible but do not get behind. Listen to recordings and memorize the ppts. He genuinely wants all of his students to succeed. Textbook used for reference but info is from lecture and ppts. One exam dropped and second lowest replaced by final! Be ready to study and memorize a lot
Amazing professor! He's really passionate about what he's teaching and it makes the class so much more interesting. Taking notes from the recordings is how I got an A on every test and all his exams have 1 extra credit question. He's also really helpful outside of class by posting lighting board videos and holding discussion sessions.
Great guy! Records all lectures himself. Drops lowest test and the final replaces the next lowest grade. Tests werent easy but know the ppts really well. Textbook was good for initial understanding but ppts are all that's needed. No homework/clickers, just 5 exams + final. If you're happy with your grade before the final, you can skip it.
Amazing professor, one of my favorite classes at UCF. Material is challenging but not impossible took this class and lab as well as physics a 1 and other 2 classes in 1 semester and still got an A! His tests are hard but the final saved me because it replaces the lowest and 2nd lowest. He' very fast and very passionate.
The best science professor Ive had at UCF. Hes obviously passionate about his field. Hes funny too! If you know the material, youll be fine. Lectures are recorded, and worth listening to again!
THE GOAT. Best professor youll ever have
His lectures are super important, but he records them, so I would listen to them back and forth. He drops a test and replaces the final with your second lowest, but you have to study from the get go or good luck
On the first day of class he will tell you about his grading policies, and they may sound great, but don't let yourself slack at the beginning of the semester. The first 3 exams are the most important and the rest of them will be based on knowledge from these. If you didn't study for exams 1-3 you will be screwed for the rest of the semester
I never went to lecture bc he speaks too fast and is always asking questions. I listened to the recordings on my own, plus read the textbook for topics I didn't understand, and formed study groups, so I managed to get As and Bs on his tests. This class may sound easy, but if you don't study you will be lost, please study and create study groups!
I personally didn't have much issue with this class. I didn't attend lecture (too much detail you don't need) and only took notes on the powerpoints 2-3 days before an exam. If you do not have a strong memory, study earlier. The book can help clarify, but has a lot of extra info. Drops a test or the final. A and B type qs. READ THE QS CAREFULLY
Great professor, if you take immune don't expect to skip and do good just pre read his powerpoint, take notes, then go to class with the notes, study often and you'll do fine. wasn't a hard A but it can be if you let it
Study hard for the first 3 tests. If you get a C or even fail, its your fault. This class is not hard. I got an A taking this with Phys and Orgo. The 1st,4th and 5th tests are just memorization. Second and third are the hardest. Listen to his lectures and follow along in the power points.
Weigel is a good prof and clearly cares about his students. His tests are pretty much exactly off the powerpoint and what he says in lecture, and he records his lectures as well. Book not necessary. He speaks really fast and jumps around the powerpoint a lot so it's kinda hard to keep pace with him in lecture, which is why I docked him a star.
What an AMAZING professor. Definitely take his course. He does everything in his power to set the course up for success. You'd have to seriously not try to do bad. Definitely possible to get an A as long as you prepare well for tests! He has a huge heart and an awesome sense of humor too. Wish more professors were like him.
AMAZING!!! He holds reviews and discussions all the time, so all the resources are there for you to do well. You can totally get an A -- drops one test if you take the final and then replaces second lowest with the final. I did bad on two tests and got an A b/c of that angelic save. TAKE HIM!!!
Weigel's class was awesome, he makes the lectures interesting and really wants you to understand the material. You can definitely get an A in the class, the only reason I got a B is because I took 18 credits this semester, so I have no doubt with a lighter load if you want you can ace it. Use the study guides for the exams and you'll be fine.
Hes definitely a good professor and tries to keep his lectures interesting. Genuinely wants you to learn the material. He is also pretty generous with grading and drops your 2 lowest tests. records lectures so you dont have to go to class. Only complaint is he jumps around a ton in lecture and tests have confusing answer choices. GO TO REVIEWS.
Amazing prof, just sucked at finding a method to study for this class. LISTEN TO THE AUDIOS!!!! Also go to class bc it definitely helps. For lab, just review the ppts they give and its an easy A. Main tip: DONT SLACK OR ITLL END YOU. This class is def not a class to slack on, learn from me. Lots of info but if you stay on top, youll be fine. GL!!
Weigel was an awesome professor and I overall really enjoyed taking this class. The class wasn't that difficult as long as you study and do good on the exams.-
Best professor at UCF. Immuno itself is a hard class, but Weigel makes it fun and easy to understand. If you memorize the ppts the tests are an easy A.
Awesome professor. Genuinely cares about his students. Honestly this is a very difficult class but if you do what he says and "DON'T GET BEHIND" you will make it through and it is enjoyable. Considerably one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. He keeps class interesting and he's funny. This class requires a ton of studying for an A.
Immunology is hard, but Weigel is a great lecturer. There isn't much of a need to buy the textbook, as Weigel has great powerpoints and records his lectures in case you make it to class. That being said, I recommend his classes because he does a good job making the content engaging and interesting!
Weigel has a corky sense of humor and he talks so much about unnecessary things. He is not direct. He goes off and off for minutes. He holds himself to an unnecessary high standard and hes super PC. Treats you like you can't read during lec. No extra credit even during this corona virus.. Gave no f's about what we have to go thru. Pathetic man.
You will have to work hard to earn an A, but definitely possible. He literally does so much to help, records lectures, makes study guides, specific office hours for reviewing etc. Be careful bc he likes tricks on exams. If you can't handle his class, good luck in med school. He's funny & keeps you engaged. A PDF of the textbook is online. Study!!!
Not bad. Make no mistake, it's a tough class. I don't care for his lecture style (speeds through things/kind of disorganized), but his tests are more than fair. Everything you need to know is on PowerPoint. He uploads study guides that will save your butt for the test. Fill it out with a friend! SARC also gives practice tests, very helpful as well.
Some of these responses are hogwash. Just memorize the ppts and you'll be good? his ppts have 80-90 slides on them. He does care about you learning the material but he makes it complicated purposely. I have memorized so many ppt slides word for word and still got Cs on his exams. No extra credit /curve during covid-19 either. Wow... thats sad.
Decent professor. During lectures, he points out what's going to be on the text sometimes and holds discussion during his office hours if you need additional help. The main goal to pass this class is DON'T SLACK. Take notes and study, you will pass if you do so.
memorize every single word of the ppts for an A. they're long, so start early. his lightboard vids are great. listen to all his lectures.
He is an amazing lecturer! What he says in class is exactly what is on the test. Great at explaining concepts and answering questions. Grade is based solely on 5 exams (6 taken, lowest dropped). He records all of his lectures, but still go to class, it's worth it. Chill atmosphere and very interest subject. Overall amazing!
Tests are the only grades. Listen to the lectures, read the powerpoints, repeat. Review- the material builds. Go to the review for an A. He does drop/ replace grades but do not use that as an excuse to not study b/c you will regret it. You get the grade you work for and Weigel is amazing, helpful, funny, and loves Coca Cola.
Lab was run by TA's. Lab manual required. Grade is 11 quizzes (lowest dropped) and 1 presentation. Quizzes are half the grade while the presentation is the other half. Quizzes can be tricky if you do not read the questions properly.
Dr. Weigel is amazing. He holds reviews/discussions multiple times a week, he records his lectures and posts them online, and he posts his powerpoints and videos he made. Going to class is only helpful if you have read ahead. Best way to study is flashcards, reading powerpoints, and listening to lecture recordings. Textbook isn't necessary for an A
An amazing lecturer but you will need to listen to the lecture more than once to understand this subject fully, I promise you won't understand the first time around. Other than that, class is really easy with 6 tests, lowest dropped and second lowest replaced by the final, NO HW. This class is SUPER informative, study 1 hour a day and you'll be ok.
He was a very cool professor but his class wasn't easy. The class is fast paced so I wouldn't recommend not going to the lecture (However he does record and post all his lectures online). His tests are majority from his lectures and you'll need to probably listen to the recordings several times to retain all the info in them. STUDY! STUDY! STUDY!
I attended lecture and listened to all the audio recordings. I think his recording is why I got an A, really. He emphasizes so many things that show up on the exam so listen carefully. I also retyped his ppts which might be excessive but it helped me. Lastly, immuno is really a story, DO NOT FALL BEHIND or the story gets confusing very, very fast.
Professor Weigel is the best. He is super helpful and always gives you what you need for the test. If you put some time and study you can get an A. He is honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. He doesn't overwhelm you and makes sure you have the knowledge needed for the class. I wish all professors were like him.
honestly favorite professor at UCF so far, he's really chill and loves coke (drinks one every lecture). you can tell he loves what he teaches because he doesn't read off the slides like most professors do he actually goes in depth and his lecture are very interesting. My attention span is really short but his lectures never made me fall asleep.
Weigel makes immunology interesting. Your grade in the class is based entirely on test grades. Test questions can be tricky so read carefully. Tips to succeed: attend lecture, read the book, re-watch the lectures, watch the videos posted on webcourses, go to tutoring/office hours. The lowest test gets dropped.
Had this professor for immunology online because of the covid pandemic. Learned so much from this professor Hes funny smart engaging and repeats himself frequently purposely soyou understand the material. Did not go to lecture only heard his recorded lectures on the weekend and passed with an A. Test come from the powerpoints, and he summarizesthem
Great professor, teaches via Zoom. He has great Zoom study sessions after, he breaks everything down with drawings & Q&A. Records every lecture, I watched the recordings so I could pause & take notes, because he talks fast. BE CAREFUL of his trick questions on exams, read every word of the TF questions. He drops one test. If u try you'll get an A.
Fantastic professor. Explains everything effectively and in depth. Very transparent about what you're expected to know. Course and exams are very lecture heavy, so the textbook is only useful occasionally for elaborating on tough concepts. Stay on top of material, attend lectures, invest time towards studying, and you'll succeed in this class
there's two chapters per exam and based on his ppt. each ppt have about 80-101 slides you have to memorize . his test are confusing if you don't understand the lectures, its never a,b,c or d its always a,b,c,d,a&b or a,b& c. take him unless your other classes are easy. I withdrew cause I failed 2 of his test and know I wouldn't pass.
Ok professor. Lecture is very hard to understand and is all over the place. Tends to skip around from slide to slide and doesn't follow the order of the textbook or his own slides. The tests can be tricky since the answer choices will be a, b, c, a and b, or none of the above.
Ok Professor but he is all over the place. I think he expected students to have a prior knowledge in order to understand his abbreviations of certain terms. No other grades are given except for test grades. & he uses Honorlock.. Final is cumulative. I just feel like bcuz the class is online he should give more opportunities to pass than just exams
Fantastic professor, really knowledgable and passionate about the subject. His lectures can be fast paced but that is because he expects you to stay on pace with the class. Tests can be tricky but are not too difficult if you know the material. Tests are lecture heavy, the book is not really necessary. Immunology is a story, DON'T FALL BEHIND!
He is all over the place. Not clear on what he wants you to know. Skips all over the slides. If you are working FULLTIME jobs DO NOT TAKE this course. No sympathy what so ever, some students had caught COVID and missed test and no makeup. If i could rate him a 0 I would. AVOID his class at all cost.
Really amazing professor, does exam reviews nearly every day. If you listen to him, study his powerpoints, and NOTICE what he emphasizes, you'll get an A. I bought the textbook, but DO NOT. You'll see why. He is a great professor I HIGHLY recommend!!!
Worst professor at UCF! His lectures make no sense, he speaks way too fast and expects you to understand everything like him. He doesn't give you a chance to get up to speed or ask questions. His exams are the hardest hardest things in the world! Honorlock on his tests as well. Wouldnt recommend at all!
His grade consists of 6 exams which is basically a set up for failure. His lectures are all over the place and expects us to memorize way too much information in little time. This class was horrible. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! I took this class online because of COVID and this is the hardest class I ever took at UCF. like his test are hard as hell and he speaks fast. the powperpoints are about 80-101 slides long for each chapters. you literally have to remember everything word for word.
Top pick for Immuno here at UCF. He's passionate about the subject and goes into a lot of detail and his powerpoints and lecture cover everything. But it's ALOT of memorization about tiny details and processes. This manageable with individual test (drops one), but the final is cumulative and can be kinda daunting.
GET ready to memorize every single PowerPoint word by word. He is a solid choice but man you will have to STUDY EVERY DETAIL. His exams are very tricky make sure you read them twice before submitting.
Professor Weigel is very knowledgeable and a cool guy however the content of this course is incredibly challenging. Your entire grade relies on tests, no homeworks or quizzes as buffers. He does give you a drop test and the final replaces your next lowest test score which is great. Really have to work for your grade tho especially with COVID.
Weigel is a great fountain of knowledge but this class comes down to how well you can memorize every word that comes out of his mouth. Grade depends on only 6 exams and thats it. Study guides dont really help and flash cards will be your saving grace. Also goes through a really fast pace (each chapter is 80-100 slides each) and tricky exams
Literally didnt care if you got COVID. Wasnt understanding and never curved. Relies too much on memorization and obscure details and the tests are meant to mess with you even though thats the only grade
This class is actually pretty hard if you do not listen to lectures and look at the powerpoints. I was pretty lazy with this class because I was taking it with harder classes. It is not an easy A but it is definitely doable. He doesnt really do extra credit but drops lowest and final replaces second lowest.
This class was pretty challenging but, he is a great professor. Just make sure to relisten to his lectures & create a timeline instead of trying to memorize everything. I also don't recommend reading the book, it will only confuse you. His tests are tricky so you have to make sure you really read the questions especially the "easy" ones.
To get an A in this class, you really just have to listen to everything he says. To study I would go to class for any questions but then when I was making my flashcards I would rewatch his lectures and make sure I understood everything. He also has incredibly helpful exam reviews. Also be sure to review your exams because he does repeat Qs.
This class is SUPER hard, he isnt a bad professor but his expectations are too high. Tests every two weeks on two chapters (about 200-300 slides full) and study guides are a joke. He also tries to trick you on tests which just isn't cool especially given the time you have to study and the amount. Only thing nice about it is the grading boosts.
Grade is composed of 6 exams, 2 chapters per test. Lowest grade is dropped and 2nd lowest is replaced by final. I fill out his provided study guides using his powerpoints, memorize them, and have gotten As. Watching lectures isn't needed, the powerpoints have everything. A good memory makes this class a breeze. Know your memory and study as such.
Had This Prof during Covid in fall 2020 and honestly loved this dude. I got Cs and Ds on every exam and studied his study guides and slides, but still fell short. You just have to study. If youre good at memorizing, this is an easy A (not for me). They are fair exams, and the only trick Qs are choices like both A and B. One of my fav UCF profs
If you are pre-med chances are you have been exposed to very harsh professors who ruin your whole semester. Weigel is a breath of fresh air and I mean it. Now do not expect to barely study and get an A, but I do genuinely believe he is passionate about Immuno and provides all thats necessary to succeed. I appreciate the heck out of this man.
I was terrified of taking this course before, I am not the most science-savvy. If you dedicate time to studying, a week before each exam you will be fine. I averaged mid-high Bs on every exam... I was blown away. You have to watch his lecture recordings he will point out what is important and use the slides for studying. I loved this class honestly
He is the best professor I've had at UCF. His tests are based on his powerpoints but he doesnt just read off it, he explains the information well. Does reviews, study guides, makes it possible to get an A, you just have to really work for it, memorize the info, and go over the slides 7 times. Not a lot of info, very doable, very interesting.
Great professor if you're really interested in immuno. If you're not, you will end up liking it either way.
Prof. Gregory Weigel is my favorite professor across two colleges and two degrees so far. I love his tests only grading scale. No homework, no assignments, no projects. 2+ extra credit on each exam. Exams are extremely straight forward; no hidden meaning. Material straight from pp slides and lectures. Lecture reviews and exam reviews are supplied.
If youre taking PCB3233, get ready for a TON of studying. His PowerPoints have so many grammar mistakes its not even funny. You have to memorize about 180 slides of info for each test to get an A. His tests are fair though, so your grade is honestly dependent on how much you study. Hes a pretty cool guy, but the class takes a ton of time.
Oh my god this is literally the hardest class I have ever taken. I got a C only because of the curve. If youre gonna take this class, you better be dedicated to it. He will curve your grade and he really does help when you ask- go to office hours to review exams. Hes a good professor, but god this is such a hard subject.
Weigel is an amazing professor, he really enjoys what he teaches. During lecture, he likes students to participate by asking questions. The first unit of this course is an overview of immunology. There are 5 tests (lowest one is dropped) and 2 HW assignments which aren't bad. Tests are MC and fair. PPTs are >100 slides but study guides are given.
Immunology is going to be a difficult class no matter who you take it with, but Professor Weigel makes the class enjoyable, and is very passionate about the subject. The tests are based on the lengthy powerpoints which he reviews during lecture. Make sure you memorize the little details. The exam questions are straightforward but can be tricky.
What are you doing reading reviews? Take him you will love this man.
I would highly recommend taking microbiology before you take this class. Immunology is composed of 6 exams and your lowest exam gets dropped and your second lowest exam could get replaced by your final if it is a higher score than your 2nd lowest grade grade. Memorization heavy but does a good job at explaining the material
Professor Weigel was excellent. He really cared about the class and he explained things very clearly during his lectures. You don't have to attend lecture but I would definitely recommend attending since he gives tips and advice for tests during them. Study guides are provided for each exam (except for first). Memorize ppts!
This class was extremely hard I almost didn't even pass. The lectures are 2ish hours during the summer and I wouldn't mind if they were easy to understand, but he goes so fast in his lectures I can barely comprehend anything. The only thing that had me pass this class was the curve which was only based on how all of the students were doing.
If you can't pass his class, that's on you. He's amazing and everything you need for the exams is provided to you. If you're struggling, draw out the pathways and attend SI. For anyone complaining on here that there's a lot of information, this is an easier load compared to many other classes. Review recordings, read ppts & TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.
So I was very unprepared for this class and it shows. He's a really good professor no doubt about it, however, there's a lot of information to take in and no HW to help reinforce that knowledge. So if you're someone that needs HW to help you remember things don't take him. Otherwise you'd be crazy not to take him. I also suggest taking microbio 1st
Funny guy. His reviews are perfect study material for the tests and the class gets easier as the semester goes on.
Professor Weigel is an amazing professor, he knows what he is teaching. Don't waste money on textbook. 5 exams, +final, lowest grade dropped, second lowest replaced by final, no HW. The class is a lot of information, your best bet is to re watch lectures, exam review lecture vids, and take notes, study the practice exam as well. You cant fail :)
He made the material easy to follow with the use of examples of real world events and speaking in a way that is easy for students to understand. I also liked that he included ways to help us remember the material. And the recordings and practice exams were amazing in helping me study. I really felt like he wanted us to learn and do well.
The only thing I have on him is that grades are only on exams. However, if you study his lecture well and do the practice exams you really get an A in the class. He records lectures so I re watched them so many times. I needed about a week before an exam to do well on it. Don't expect to learn it fast, divide it into small parts.
Immuno lab was lead by very helpful TAs and not Weigel. They were cool and understanding. Study the PPTs as soon as you can when leaving lab and know it pretty well. Quizzes are fairly easy. Do NOT memorize but understand the PPTs and you won't get tripped up. Eleven quizzes, one lowest dropped, and a group presentation. It was fun.
Weigel is a very reasonable professor. His grading criteria is clear: 6 exams, lowest dropped, second lowest replaced by the final. Absolutely possible to do well with listening to lecture reviews & studying ppts. Book isn't really necessary, his powerpoints and lectures are good enough to get an A in the class. Nice guy.
Professor Weigel was great. I'm a biology student more interested in ecology, but I found his lectures interesting. His excitement for the subject is so contagious (no pun intended). Also, your grade is dependent only on tests. There is no homework or quizzes, so going to the lectures and reviewing his powerpoints helped a lot!
While he is an amazing professor he has a very hard class to teach and it requires a lot of studying. This class feels like you're learning a whole new language and it is difficult to understand. Just make sure that you watch the panopto review videos that are posted.
TAKE HIM! Immuno is a very hard class so but Prof. Weigel makes it doable. DON'T expect an easy A, u definitely have to work for it. Make sure u really understand the material; it's a build-up course + he recycles some exam q's. He gives u pointers + hints at whats on the exam, DO THE PRACTICE TEST & FILL IN THE SGs. rewatch lectures + review vids!
Weigel is a funny guy and a pretty good lecturer. He is clear about what you need to know. Don't take notes on the entire powerpoint; just fill out the study guides to read over and over and pay attention to what he talks the most about during lectures. All lectures are recorded and posted online to review. Definitely do the practice exams.
super hard class and lots of studying
Literally just rewatch the lectures. I usually could not understand the material that was gone over in class because I would never read ahead or prepare for his lectures. So I would just have the videos playing in the background and I began to understand the material quite easily. Tests are very easy, just specific.
I am not the smartest but w/ the curve passed with a B-, he makes everything clear that you need to know. Watch/ listen to lecture once and watch/ listen to REVIEW like 3 times. They are so much shorter. Every single thing in his review really breaks down the things you need to know. The lecture has a lot of filler. He actually cares!!!
Weigel is an OUTSTANDING professor. All you need for an A in the class are lectures (which he records) and the powerpoints. Know those like the back of your hand and you WILL ace every exam. Good luck!
Not taught by Weigel but by TAs. Take during summer, super easy class. There are 11 quizzes (1 dropped) and a presentation (very easy, dont sweat it). They give you major hints for what will be on the quiz; as long as you study the questions provided at the end of each powerpoint you'll do well. TAs are very nice too!
Great professor who I took for Immunology and also received an A. The best bet for passing Immunodiagnostics with an A is creating quizlets based on the PowerPoint given in class. The tests will come straight from there. It might seem like a lot of effort, but I recommend starting two weeks before a test and just using quizlets up until the test.
I took the lab portion only during the summer, and Professor Weigel's TAs were amazing. They were attentive in the group chat and replied to emails throughout the semester. The group presentation is hard for students with anxiety even when online, and Professor Weigel understood this. If I had an opportunity to take them for another course I would.
I think I could've studied or not studied for exams and still gotten the same grade. Some of the lectures were really difficult to understand, and the closed captioning on the recorded lectures did not work which made taking notes really difficult. There are only a couple exam grades, and my class did not do very well on the final.
I really enjoyed learning the material and found lecture to be very interesting. Start understanding content well from Exam 1 because as the course progresses a lot of subjects overlap or are tested on again; as long as you get a good grasp on material the first time around, you'll be in good shape. Do study guides/ practice exams!
Def recommend. Lowest exam gets dropped, second lowest is replaced by final. Weigel provides ample ways to make sure you know the material, you just have to put in the work. All lectures are uploaded, there are review videos, practice exams, and study guides. He also has office hours every day. Content builds, put in work early and you'll be fine.
the rating speaks for itself
He is pretty fair. The class is a lot of memorization but if you repeatedly look over the PowerPoints, to to sarc and do the practice tests, you should do well.
He's truly an amazing professor. He makes all of his lectures engaging, the content easy to digest, and he offers many areas of opportunity to improve your grade. Read the textbook, go to class, review old exams, go to office hours, and reach out to his amazing TAs. Hard class, but he's great. You cannot cram last minute for his exams!
I just ended with a B! He gave us a curve. But anyways, Professor Weigel is an awesome professor! He is so passionate about immunology so you will be able to stay engaged. If you put in the work, you will receive a good grade. You cannot cram though. I studied for a week our two ahead of exams. Exams are the only grades though.
Very good professor. All information needed for exams are found on the powerpoints.
He is a good professor, but the course itself is a hard one to pass. Make sure to study a lot for the tests, the study guides he gives are an accurate representation of things asked on the test. Most of the course is just memorization.
Grade is all exams, 5/6 kept and the final can replace the lowest grade. He posts lectures online, they contain all the information he will test you on from the text. Reviews, extra videos for the most difficult topics, study guides, and practice exams are all available. Make an effort and keep going back to older information and you will do well.
Not only is this class super interesting, Professor Weigel is a great prof and person. There's A LOT of content but once you get the hang of how the exams are set up it's way easier to study. It was annoying to have to memorize the smallest details in case they were on the test, but it's not awful. Super helpful at office hours and a great guy :)
Weigel as a person is a super awesome guy and keeps his students in good spirits, but I personally don't think it's worth taking this class unless you have serious dedication for it. He refers to this class like "learning a second language", and he's not joking. Only take if you are interested enough to do 15+ hrs each week, not just for credit.
Only graded off of the best 4 out of 6 tests. He goes over the material well but its a difficult class that you'll need to spend at least 3-4 hours studying each week if you want an A.
The best prof I've had at ucf. His lectures were interesting and there were no surprises on the tests, everything is right from his PowerPoints. It requires work to get an A but he has review videos and records lecture so studying is very easy. He gives you everything you need to succeed and he genuinely wants his students to do well.
Really liked his class setup: 100% exams with no homework. 5 lecture exams and a cumulative final (lowest exam dropped and final can replace 2nd lowest); if you have A before final you can skip! Please STUDY the powerpoints, study guides, review videos, and practice exams (all except the textbook for me.) But each exam covers a lot, stay on top!
Easiest UCF lab class, but slack on the quizzes and you'll miss the A! Lab was 90% Quizzes (one drop) and 10% group presentation (graded very leniently.) Study each weekly PowerPoint for half an hour before coming to take each quiz. Attendance is mandatory each session. Very manageable A, but only if you put in fair work.
I was scared once I heard it was 100% exams but the exams are very straightforward if you attend all his lectures & listen to what he says He makes it very clear on what he will test you on & not. I did study a LOT, practice exams by the TAs helped, took all 6 exams for the dropped 1 and replaced 2nd lowest w final score. i just rewatched lectures
Grades are only 6 tests. Him alone isn't bad, but the class is super hard. I sat down on first day of class and found it interesting until he got into the actual course material. I felt like he was speaking a whole other language. If you can avoid taking this class DONT TAKE IT. micro bio before would be helpful to take before, be prepared to STUDY
Professor Weigel is very knowledgeable and cares about his students. He only has 5 tests plus the final, but he drops the lowest grade. He also allows the final to count twice, if it helps the student. Watch and rewatch lectures and attend office hours or you will struggle! It's the nature of the subject. You will earn your grade here.
Great course. Lectures/exams/book/practice tests/study guides all line up perfectly, so studying is straightforward. I read the book / filled out study guide before watching lecture videos, which I used for review. The material itself is difficult, but Dr. W lectures like a coach, asking questions throughout lecture to gauge where everyone is at.
He seems like a nice guy, but he was not my favorite professor. I was just not a big fan of the way he taught. Your grade is only based on 6 exams, so I would not recommend this class if you are an anxious or not good test taker. I'm a student who learns more from doing assignments and checkpoints before getting tested on it so I struggled a lot.
Professor Weigel speaks very fast and goes through the material very quickly in lecture. Do not count on simply attending lectures to get a good grade. Office hours and exam reviews are helpful, but lecture slides are the best study resource. The textbook itself is rarely used, though the slides are heavily based on it.
There is a lot of memorization required for this course. It is not something you can put on the back burner and forget about until a week before the exam. The exams are somewhat based on the power points but the exams are still difficult. Exams are done online with honorlock being used.
He's great, if you're willing to put in the work you will get your desired grade, he provides all the necessary resources for you to succeed.
good guy
He's a great guy and really cares about immunology. He speaks very fast throughout lectures but I took him in the summer semester so he had a lot of content to cover for only having 6 weeks. He posts all of his lectures online via ponopto vids, and zoom recordings which was very helpful for studying. The grade is all tests so make sure you study.
Professor Weigel is an amazing lecturer and very funny! He makes the content very digestible and easy. If you're good at memorizing, this class is definitely very doable. Use the resources! The study guides and practice exams are very useful.
He is very caring and loves what he teaches. This course was very difficult as a summer course however he and the TA Katherine were amazing whenever I had any issues. The class is based on 6 exams and no other assignments. He drops an exam as long as your final is higher than your lowest score.
Rude as heck. Asked a simple question the first week and he was super rude and unhelpful so I dropped. I can only imagine how the rest of the semester can go for help
This is a hard class. Try not to take it with other major pre-med classes. He's a great guy, but his lectures are hard to follow, so I ended up just staying home. Graded by 5 exams + optional final and that's it. The exams are tricky and require at least a week of grinding. Memorizing the powerpoints and watching Panopto reviews was the way to go.
Honestly, this class is really easy if you memorize the material on the powerpoints, there are no surprises on his exams, everything that he teaches is literally on the exam, so if you didn't pay attention or take notes, thats on you. he drops lowest exam grade and if the final is higher than your second lowest exam grade, it counts twice. Loved it
What can Weigel do for you: -Be an amazing and hilarious professor -Teach you immunology thoroughly so that you remember the material 5 years from now -Give detailed information via PowerPoints, lectures (in person/online), pre-recorded lectures (panopto/zoom), and reviews -Have an amazing TA that helps students -Mention how good Coca-Cola is
Getting an A in Immuno is definitely doable. The class is easy if you're good at memorizing. Total of 5 tests. Test 1 had a total of 3 chapters on it, and the rest have 2 chapters on test, which was a really good split in my opinion! To not over load the tests with too many chapters. Records and posts lectures and has pre-recorded Panapto videos.
Course is graded by 5 exams + 1 final that's it. Final's optional. No curve. Course is hybrid. No assignments. Content heavy and is a memorization based course. He's a good professor, but he expects you to learn some topics outside of class. Sometimes teaches as if you've already seen the material before... Lots of material and lectures go by fast.
Professor Weigel was excellent I truly enjoyed his class the material was engaging and all of the material is uploaded into web courses. Its basically memorization but the amount of resources provided definetly makes it doable. It is graded on the average of 5 exams but he provides a drop and a replacement which I feel is very fair. Def recommend!
Mr. Weigel honestly was great. His lectures are accessible through Zoom as well. His exams are difficult, but doable. Pay attention to the small details. Textbook IMO is not needed, he posts his ppts. Take the lab too, it helped me with understanding lecture better. Great, funny man.
Be quiet, don't look at the slides or book at all, don't waste money on the book. Go to the lecture, sit down, and listen carefully. The only stuff on the exam is what he says in lectures, lots of stuff in the book skipped, don't bother buying it. Go to the lecture, listen, understand, and take notes in your own words, understand the timeline.
MEMORIZATION is your friend in this class. He uploads his ppts, lecture/review videos, study guides, and practice exams online. Tests are the only thing; no homework or extra credit. Talks a lot about his obsession with coke. Too many "you should know this" and "I just said it" comments (You'll see what I mean). Overall, great professor.
this class is as easy or difficult as you make it. He says the first day of class that it's like learning a new language and he's right-- but you'll be impressed with how much you learned by the end. Watch the lectures, do the practice tests, and get a study group and you'll do well. Lectures are great & very entertaining !
Lectures were interesting and clearly explained material. Grading was fully test-based, but the lowest exam was dropped and the second-lowest can be replaced by the final, so it's not too bad. Course is very memorization heavy; memorizing slideshow contents and filling out the study guides will help. Tests are okay if you memorize extensively.
Class is not super easy but definitely obtainable to get an A. He is a great lecturer and makes things easy to understand, however, you have to study often outside of class to keep up. Mostly memorization but tests are all multiple choice and pretty straight forward.
Took him in summer 6 weeks. I wouldn't recommend taking this class with another one in 6 weeks. Everything is in the PP but he will mention things that aren't in the slides and also things that won't be in the proctored exams. Only 5 exams and an optional final. Study hard the PPs and at the end listen to all the lectures he records all of these
Very straightforward lab. 11 quizzes (the worst is dropped) and a group presentation. Zoom assistance is mandatory. Everything you need to know for the quizzes is in the PowerPoints. No midterm, no final, no exams.
Amazing professor! Although lecture is not mandatory, I do recommend attending since Prof. Weigel explains everything so well. The class is graded on only 5-6 tests, which are difficult (but there is a drop grade policy, so the grading is forgiving).
I love this man so much i would buy him a lifetime supply of 7-up if he asked me to. he deserves the world and he made immunology my favorite subject. everything is in the lectures and powerpoints its def alot of info but he makes sure to tell you what is on the exam in some type of way.
Highly recommend this professor if you need to take immuno. Although i didnt get an A, Id say obtaining one is definitely doable. You are graded on 6 exams, but the 6th/Final is optional. Lecutures arent madatory/graded but attending them and actually paying attention really helps :) Weigel is a funny dude
The most amazing professor I had here at UCF. Professor Weigel is an amazing guy and this man knows how to lecture! He is very clear about his grading criteria. I took this class Summer A and although it is a lot of material if you put in the work by going to the lectures and doing notes you will pass the class with an A. He is AMAZING!!!!!!!
Professor Weigel was an awesome professor. I took this immunology class during the B summer term (Yes, 6 weeks). Make sure you watch both the complement and somatic recombination light board videos during the first week of the course. It'll help you a lot! Utilize the study guides and practice exams provided. Good luck to those taking this course!
Hands down one of my favorite professors I have taken so far. I took the 6-week summer B course and found it easy as long as you watch the lectures on time and don't get behind. He is really funny and very caring. Definitely watch the complement videos he has posted as soon as you can, it'll save you time learning it later in the course.
Good professor. Class is graded only on exams and the final. Lowest exam is dropped and if the final is high enough, can be repeated twice. Exams are tough but study hard and fill out the study guides and you'll pass easily. No extra credit but he does curve a little. It can be hard without the cushion of homework and quiz grades but he's fair.
Best professor on campus. Lectures are great and entertaining, tests are very fair and aren't bad at all if you study. If you want an A then you can get it you just have to put the time in, would recomend this professor to anybody.
Professor Weigel was a professor like no other, his lectures are very content heavy but they are very interesting when you pay attention. The class is composed of 5 exams and 1 final, lowest exam is dropped and second lowest can be replaced by your final grade. The exams were also heavily based off powerpoint lectures, make sure you study hard!
No homeworks, only tests, 1 which can be dropped (including the final). Plenty of resources to study, with a detailed study guide (easy to fill out as you go through the ppt), practice tests which are basically like actual, and a SI tutor with their own practice exams. The material is alot but it is straight memorization and logic (multiple choice)
Weigel is the goat. He cares about his students, and his lectures are interactive, in-depth, and recorded.
Prof Weigel was great. His lectures were sometimes too fast paced for me but he went over all the material you needed to know. You're only graded on exams, no homework. Definitely watch the reviews and take notes on them, and review the PowerPoints. There are only 6 exams total, you only keep 5 of those exams (you can possibly skip the final)
when he says do not fall behind on lecture material, believe it. Don't get the textbook, he outlines the material he uses for tests on his powerpoints. READ THE POWERPOINTS and memorize them!! listen to lecture recordings he posts, and fill out the study guides. practice exams are helpful too. enjoyable if you keep up. he drops lowest exam score.
Completely based on exams. Just attend his lectures, watch his lecture videos, reviews, and take the practice exams by Weigel and the SI and you'll be fine. His lecture are very important since he really makes everything interesting that you can basically have a little voice in your mind that tells you everything during the exams.
The best professor I've had so far!! The class is extremely lecture heavy and the info is kinda boring but he's a good lecturer. Our grade was based only on exams and we had 6 including the final. His exams were straightforward and easy if you studied. A lot of info to memorize but not hard to understand. Don't fall behind bc the info builds.
Idk why everyone loves him. DON'T take this class. It has 5 51-question exams plus a 100-question final, and he gives you 100+ slides for each chapter. He doesn't teach he gives you a practice that helps a little and a study guide. If you don't study or you don't have time to dedicate to this class, please don't take it... your GPA will suffer.
Professor Weigel genuinely wants everyone to pass. Only 5 exams plus 1 final exam, you get 1 dropped exam and your final can count twice for your lowest exam. Makes lectures pretty interesting and not boring.
Great professor. Couldn't attend all lectures because of work but he records them and posts powerpoints/study guides/practice exams. Definitely a doable class, just content heavy. I found it easiest to study straight from the powerpoints. SARC/SI worksheets and practice exams were also really helpful. Know your syllabus well too.
I love this guy! There are six exams, the lowest gets dropped, and if you do well on the final, it can replace the second lowest grade. While it's exam heavy, there are clear study guides, prerecorded lectures/reviews, and even SI study guides/ practice exams that are extremely similar to the exam. Just study and you'll do good.
Professor Weigel is a great lecturer and is really clear on what is going to show up on his exams. The class is graded purely on exams but the exams are very straightforward and to the point. His lectures are also recorded and posted online.
Test are the only grade that is counted, he pretty much tells you everything you need to know in lecture. The subject is alot of material, and he speaks fast in lecture but he does record so you can go back and rewatch. I think he made learning this subject fun with all his jokes and his lectures were never a bore to go too. 10/10 would take again!
great professor and fair exams
Your grade consists of 5-6 50-question exams. No homework, extra credit, or assignments throughout the class. If you are not a good test taker, I DO NOT recommend you take this class. The professor is great, though. He posts lecture videos, study guides, and the SI leaders for his class are what mostly helped me review and understand the content.
You need to watch the lecture videos to succeed in this class, unless you actually go to class. His lecture style is beyond terrible. Absolutely terrible audio quality (watch the summer videos instead), and he has no sense of organization in the way he teaches. Exams aren't hard with any more than 1-2 days of studying. Exams make up entire grade.
One of the best professors that I have had at UCF. His exams are very fair, and there are practice exams. I would 100% recommend going to check previous exams since he repeats questions, he also gives some "extra credit" questions in the exam. Go to lectures, he gives clues of what might be on the exam.
His class is all exams but his exams are very fair. if you are failing this class, you are not trying because it's genuinely just memorization. Everything builds off of the previous chapter. I loved this class.
Professor Gregory Weigel is a fantastic professor. He builds the connections necessary to understand the immune system one chapter at a time. He has interesting, thought-provoking questions, which help reinforce content. Do the SI WordPress reviews, practice exams, and review the notes consistently, and I promise you'll walk out with an A!
Ngl this class was a little bit stressful but it is doable. You are only graded on 5 exams and a final, with the lowest exam being dropped and the final replacing your lowest grade. The SI sessions were a life saver, used the exam reviews nearly every time 2-3hrs before the actual exam and scored 86% and higher. Lecturer tends to ramble a bit tho.
There is a book for his class, but I did not purchase it. He tests heavy on his PowerPoints. His exams are super detailed and specific but if you pay attention to his lectures (which were in person and recorded) and study his PowerPoints you will do great! Also, his TA's exam reviews were pretty good; but I mainly focused on the PowerPoints!
Amazing Professor. His class is based solely on Exams, attending lectures is very important, and if you think you can watch the recordings and get the same result, you are wrong. Exam reviews by his TA are very helpful. If you miss a lecture, you will have no idea what is going on. Final Exam is pretty easy.
Greg Weigel is a funny guy. What makes him a great professor is that he's so passionate about immunology. He shows up to class excited to teach every day. The only thing is, the guy talks FAST. I attended almost every lecture, and your best advice is to type out notes as he's talking to review later. Your entire grade is composed of exams so STUDY!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. lowest test gets dropped and second lowest gets replaced. he is the most caring professor I've ever had. made immunology so fun to learn.
Professor Weigel is honestly the best professor I've had at UCF. Immunology is a fun but sometimes challenging subject, and Professor Weigel made it as manageable as possible. In my opinion, his exams were easy— study the PowerPoints, and you should be fine. 6 exams, with the lowest being dropped, make up your entire grade so be careful!
In my senior year and this has by far been my favorite professor. He communicates clearly, is available during clearly defined office hours, and his lectures are interesting. You can tell by the way he teaches that he is passionate and truly knows his stuff. Not an EASY course, but if you put in the work you'll do well. Exams only, no busy work.
Anyone who says Weigel is bad is because they're not putting effort into the class. He is the best professor I've ever had, lectures are fun, and it's impossible not to be engaged if you're sitting in the front row. He is a fantastic person and truly shows his passion. Class is challenging, but I mean, it's immunology, what do you expect? STUDY!!
I love Professor Weigel! I took this course online, but I could feel his fun vibe through the screen. The course consists of six lockdown/webcam exams, from which one is dropped and the final can replace the lowest exam grade. I recommend watching the lectures and using SI resources to study, such as practice exams and study guides. He's the best!
Fueled by Coca-Cola and students' success, Professor Weigel pitches the immune system to you and it gets you hooked. He's a very funny personable professor with sharp wit and attention to students who might not understand the material during class. He allows you to look at your exam the week after its taken to see what concepts you fumbled.
Professor Weigel is an amazing teacher. His lectures were clear, engaging, and made a very difficult subject feel understandable. Even though I struggle a lot with memorization, I genuinely enjoyed his class. His sense of humor, especially on exams, helped make the course less stressful. REMEMBER ALWAYS that his fav drink is COKE!!!:))
Only grades by exams so no homework, you have at least one drop grade. Definitely difficult since it's a lot of memorization and understanding processes. Keep in mind, a couple of easy questions given in the (6) exams; use the study guide, ppts, and practice exams to help study.
