At first I thought this ONLINE class would be hard. I was trying to teach myself straight out of the online book and was struggling. Then started just listening to the short lectures. These lectures were direct questions off the quizzes and tests. Quizzes can be taken 3x and there are practice tests. Super Easy and he was SUPER helpful! LOVED IT!
I was so nervous for an online math class, but professor Wheeler's lectures were amazing! Everything was easy to understand, and he really took the time to be sure it was clear. I would definitely take a math class from him again :)
I was so nervous for an online math class, but professor Wheeler's lectures were amazing! Everything was easy to understand, and he really took the time to be sure it was clear. I would definitely take a math class from him again :)
The ONLY good grade I have received in math was in Wheeler's class. His quizes and tests are consistant with the work (on line class) which is usually unheard of for a University Prof. I would take any class from him again. Take your classes from him even if you have to waite a semester to do it. Awesome class and I hate math !!
Does a great job explaining the material. Would definitely take a class from this instructor again
Best Math teacher EVER! I took 1010 1050 and am in the process of taking 1060 from Wheeler. He makes really hard stuff just make sense. Very clear and is more than willing to give you extra help if you need it. He explains everything in two differnt ways to make sure everyone gets it. This is the first time I have been able to understand math.
Good teacher, provided good notes to follow and did his best with a difficult subject. Enjoyed the class but a 3 hour final worth 1/2 the grade? Ridiculous! Definitely wouldn't take his class again.
Profesor Wheeler is by far the best Math teacher there is. You will not regret taking a class from him! I took this class online and his recorded lessons were entertaining and never confusing! His tests are straight forward, no tricks. I learned so much! I will for sure take Math 1050 from him!
GREAT teacher. so so clear. He makes sure that you get it and speaks in clear simple terms. his tests are fairly hard, but you will learn a lot from Greg
Greg is a great teacher, but his tests dont match the homework problems assigned. Each time I took one of his exams I felt really confident going in, but defeated coming out. most of the other students in the class felt the same
Great teacher. Each class lecture was based on chapter notes he would post online. He was very thorough and clear. Homework was in MyMathLab. Tests were written by him, and as long as you did the practice tests, you could do well on the tests. Very good teacher.
Great Math Course. Greg was very clear and the class was super organized. He replied quickly to submissions and discussions.
Would never take a class from him again.
Wheeler is a great professor. He's very generous in giving partial credit on the exams. Be warned that the Hawkes software used for the online class is total junk and a pain to use. I would not recommend taking this online unless you are good enough with technology to figure out the quirks in the software, and are dedicated enough to finish on time
Professor Wheeler helped me actually understand what I'm doing in math for the first time in my life. He doesn't just give you formulas and methods, he explains how and why they are used, and explains everything in extreme detail so you understand. I was nervous about taking an online math class, but the program he uses and the lectures are great.
I felt really conflicted in the class. Professor Wheeler's lectures made sense but retaining the information was difficult. I found myself looking at outside materials frequently trying to remember or understand more. Tests are hard and you will lose points fast if you don't show "enough" work. Don't miss class. Just don't.
His lectures are very thourough to help you understand the problems for the current homework assignment. This class is average for the professor, the homework, the assignments and tests
Took this class online. He uses MyMathLab for all the assignments and tests. Tests are NOT multiple choice, you have to type the correct answer in which makes it hard. Overall, it was an okay class.
I enjoyed Professor Wheeler's online videos and printable notes! He is very helpful and answers emails quickly! I will take another course from him if I get the chance!
Professor Wheeler is amazing! His lectures are very clear and easy to understand. He also puts together notes ahead of time that can be accessed before or during class. He's very open to helping students in a kind and easy way.
I was really nervous about jumping into Calculus, but Professor Wheeler is a great teacher. He explains the concepts in easy to understand ways and you can tell he really enjoys the math and wants to spark that enthusiasm in his students. He offers Review Sessions to prep for the exams the week of the tests - definitely attend them - very helpful
The worst professor in the history of mathematics. In Calculus I, we havn't discussed essential concepts, such as Newton's method, importance of mean value theorem and applications, volume by shells and washers... and many more. Insterd, he prefered graphing; also, no calculators alowed even a 1 line calculator. The quality of teaching is so poor
The lecture is very unhelpful. He talks too much, with low quality. The difficulty of his tests, compared to his quality of teaching, is obscure.
Wheeler was one of my favorite professors. He teaches clearly and well, and lets you know what he expects from you. You have a weekly quiz, and you can use your notes and HW. Tests aren't too difficult. Homework is optional. He was always nice to me and helped me when I went into his office hours.
One of the best professors I have ever had! He is an excellent teacher. He explains math ways that many people can understand. Do the practice exams and know all of the concepts and you will do well on exams. Do the suggested homework and you will do well on weekly quizzes. A hard class but a great teacher!!
I went to this class, I learned calculus, and it went pretty smoothly! I would recommend making the effort to print out the lecture notes, as it made learning the new material easier. Homework is optional but I would recommend doing it if you want to do well on the quizzes/tests.
By far my favorite professor at USU. I would take all my math classes from him if I could. He cares about the students and wants to get to know them and help them succeed.
He explained the math really well and wasn't too boring. Depending on how many of the concepts you're familiar with, you'll need to attend class frequently because of the tests. After about the first month I needed to go to class almost every time. Do your homework! It will help you remember the concepts for the exams.
Made a lot of the subjects we covered really easy to understand and was open to questions or concerns.
I really like Prof. Wheeler, the first few weeks were a little tough, but not because of him, b/c it is a hard class to learn. I visited him in his office hours and he was super happy to help. His TA's are also super nice and recitations are a great time to ask questions. He is hilarious and is really good with pretests and dropping lowest scores.
Prof. Wheeler is the best teacher I have ever had by far and he actually makes math interesting and really cares about his students and their learning. Calculus is a tough subject but he explains everything so well that it makes it seem easy. I swear a four-year-old could learn calc from this guy. If you work hard you'll do great.
Great lectures, very clear and concise. He really cares about the students and wants them to succeed. There is always someone who can help you if you need it. He posts practice exams so you are well prepared for the tests. Take Professor Wheeler!! 10/10 would recommend.
I would take every math class I need from Wheeler if I could. He posts all his lectures on Panopto which is super helpful for studying or learning a confusing topic. Cares about his students and is always willing to explain things again or in more depth. Will even explain concepts from previous math classes that you should already know if you ask.
Had him for Calc 1 and Calc 2. Professor Wheeler takes complex concepts and teaches in a way you really understand and feel confident with the material. He records lectures, has great practice exams, gives lots of examples that break down the steps to solving the problems. His goal really is for you to understand the material. Excellent Instructor
Have had him for Calculus 1 and 2 and I highly reccommend him. He has no problem answering questions in class and really wants to make sure you understand the concepts! His test is concept based which is way nice.
Calc 2 is not an easy class, but Dr. Wheeler made it a lot easier. His lectures are very straightforward and easy to understand. You take a quiz and turn in hw in recitation once a week. The quiz is 6 points, the hw the other 4. A huge practice test was provided for each exam, and the tests were a bit easier than the practice test and hw.
Prof. Wheeler is the best math professor I've ever had. The first time I took Calc 2, I failed the class. The next semester I took it again from Wheeler, and he was 10x better. He is clear, concise, a good teacher, and doesn't skip steps. Other professors lecture, but Wheeler actually TEACHES. Thank you sir.
He is the gold standard when it comes to lecturing. He works extra to be sure there are plenty of resources for success. His tests are fairly difficult, but take the practice exams seriously and you will have nothing to worry about. Great guy, 10/10 would math again
He's very clear during lecture and is always willing to spend time answering students' questions. The homework actually helps you learn for the tests, but the tests are pretty hard. He usually gives an equation sheet and makes sure that students have a solid chance to succeed. You will need to do your part though for sure.
He is flexible and wants his students to succeed. I was living in Australia while taking his online Math 995 class. I didn't live near a proctor so he said that the family I was living with could proctor me. He always replied to emails really fast too. The program he uses is easy to use and shows example problems. Overall a great professor!
I've taken Calc1 from him and now Calc2 twice. I failed Calc2 the first time because I skipped class and didn't do my homework. The second time around I got an A because I went to class and did the homework. He writes his own homework and that actually helps a lot with the tests. Great guy and great professor. You just have to work for the grade.
Hes good at teaching math, and if you put in the work you will pass
Greg is amazing. A literal gem of a professor. I wish he could teach all of my math classes. He wants his students to succeed, and he will work with you. HE IS ON YOUR SIDE. If you fail his class it's really not his fault. I tell all my friends and family to take any math class possible from him.
Difficult class, but Dr Wheeler really wants you to succeed and understand the concepts. We had 7 quizzes that you had to get a certain grade on to pass the class, but we got unlimited attempts. Lots of hard homework, but it really helps you to do it. My #1 piece of advice would be to go to his office hours for help on homework (not the math lab!)
Gregory Wheeler is a nice guy and all, but it's very difficult to keep up with this class. I was a valedictorian in high school and I got a C+ here. The lectures are meant to be helpful but everything goes by so fast you don't have time to actually understand the material. I'm used to doing homework, but this was just absolutely absurd.
Found different ways of explaining concepts for people who didn't understand them. He would answer questions to his best ability which 99% of the time was better than needed to understand the concept in question.
Took this class online. His lectures are very clear and he is always open to helping students who need help. He really wants his students who take this class to be successful.
Dr. Wheeler was one of the best professors I've had at USU. He genuinely cares about the success of each student and is always willing to help. Be sure to keep up with his CBE schedule and you'll do fine. Attending recitations is optional, but recommended since his homework assignments are pretty tough. Grade mostly determined by CBE proficiency.
Prof. Wheeler was great at quickly getting back to me about think, but his lectures were confusing and hard to understand. The exams are some of the hardest I've ever taken and if you don't watch and understand the lectures you are doomed for failure. You have to put in effort in this class otherwise you won't pass.
Professor Wheeler was such a great teacher! He makes sure to leave time in his lectures for any questions students might have and clarifies anything you need to do. I hope to be able to take a class from him again in the future.
In Calc 1 he gives 7 tests. The tests can be taken more than once and if you miss one question he'll round up to a 100. The homework is super hard but if you struggle go to the optional recitation or his office hours. Because the homework is difficult, it makes the tests seem like a breeze. His lectures can get boring when he likes to go in depth.
Dr. Wheeler is amazing! He sets up his course in order to allow his students to succeed. He has tricky homework but the exams aren't too bad at all and he provides a lot of resources to help students out. Second time taking calculus and it was so much easier to understand this time. Highly reccomend!
Dr. Wheeler is the best. You will be forced to learn in this class, but it's also easy to get a good grade. He never has big tests, only small quizzes that you retake until you reach a certain grade. The class is low stress, and you can always get help on homework at recitation. He is always willing to explain concepts and ensure you understand.
Professor Wheeler is easily the best professor I have ever had. He is fair and caring. He clearly wants everyone in his class to succeed. We could take the tests as many times as needed to get 100%. It was all about learning.
He was an excelent teacher that always tried his best to make sure everyone understood the topic. In a hectic semester i was always pleased to take a seat at his lectures.
This is my second semester with Greg and he is a good teacher. He explains principles well. This semester he gave us 5 late passes. For such a hard topic, I really felt like he was on my team. It was set up for us to succeed. Whether you do or not depends on you. He gives you everything you need. CBE's are important--take ahead of time. Great guy!
I made an account solely for the purpose of reviewing Prof Wheeler. He is the goat of math teachers. He is very caring and very clear about what needs to be done. This guy is a homie, def a hang, and I guarantee he wears nikes & not adidas. If youre tryna get through math. G wheeler is the boy!
After taking calculus from prof wheeler, I feel like I really understand everything we went over, which is awesome. Youll be forced to learn in his class, but the hw is light and the quizzes arent stressful. Really great guy too.
Professor Wheeler is awesome. I took calculus from him and he made it easy. The lectures get long but they are informative. There are no actual tests there are just assignments (do with your recitation class) and 7 CBEs (which are like quizzes). If you put in some effort you will get an A. Professor Wheeler is great.
Great teacher. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches, and about his students. Some of his lectures were a little boring and tedious, but only because he is really good at explaining every detail which is helpful for tough sections. Overall if you watch the lectures, do the homework, and reach out when you don't understand, youll pass.
Dr. Wheeler has been by far the best professor I have had at this school. He is really good at teaching, knows what he's talking about, and is passionate about what he does. I would highly recommend taking a class from him, no matter the course I'm sure it's the same.
Dr. Wheeler is the best math teacher I have ever had. He moves through the lectures at a perfect pace and never minds stopping to explain something again. He is an understanding grader and makes sure the expectations are clear. He also lets you retake tests many times over. I would recommend him to any of my friends or family.
Dr. Wheeler is the best math teacher ever! I was really nervous for this class but Dr. Wheeler's class is so smooth and very friendly to anyone who has a little understanding for calculus. His lectures are great and is very patient if students need more time on a concept and is willing to go back and review other concepts not covered in the class.
Homework is way harder than it should be! I stopped going to class in the last 2 months of class because I learned more from math youtubers. did not mesh well with his teaching style at all. Still got a B without attending class though so I guess I can't be too mad
The CBE rules are dumb. Terrible at explaining.
Do not take this class at USU. Greg Wheeler is amazing and I loved his teaching, but this class is awful. The CBE structure is terrible. You cannot pass the class unless you get a 90% on all 6 tests, which in theory isn't bad because you can retake them, but trust me, it is bad. I've never wished I could get an 80% on a test so badly in my life.
Having taken calculus in high school prior to the class, it was easy for me. If you aren't very good at math, it might be a different story. The recitations are what bothered me the most. They didn't answer questions students presented, were slow, and a waste of time. It was nice to have online because I could move at my own pace.
Awful. I would not take from him again. He does not let you use any calculator on any test, only the difficult to use calculator that is embedded into the tests. He changed the class a dozen times near the end of the semester to what the other math teacher had their class set up as. He makes the class much more difficult than it needs to be.
I really struggled with the CBE's so Dr. Wheeler reached out to me about it. He worked with me to help me succeed and made sure that I was really understanding the material. He is the kind of professor that if you reach out and ask for help he will help you. He goes the extra mile for the students who really put in an effort.
He put too much emphasis on 6 tests throughout the semester, and his testing policy was insane. You needed to get a perfect score (or one point less) to pass each test, and pass every test. A long list of rules were given for the tests that would automatically fail the course, no questions asked. I failed the course :(
It can be rough. The 6 CBES where you have to get a 9/10 to pass are insanely stressful, but all the tools to pass them with enough practice are there. I don't recommend communicating with Wheeler through email, if you have a question or demands or something rather, just go talk to the guy in person. He'll point you in the right direction.
Not too difficult if you actually put in the work. Prof. Wheeler's lectures were clear and very thorough. He provides practice exams that are just like the real exam, which made the requirement of 9/10 on every exam very achievable. Recitation attendance was 20% of the grade.
Dr. Wheeler is excellent! He didn't have a mid-term or final exam, which is super nice. Your grade is comprised of homework and six CBE's (essentially quizzes that can be taken as many times as you need). I have no complaints about him! 100% recommend
Very fair grading practices. Gives partial credit for exam questions. Uses Hawkes Online Learning system. Took the class online, he has prerecorded lectures and covers what needs to be covered, doesn't get lost in the weeds and roam off on tangents.
Highly recommend. His video lectures are super clear and easy to understand. I finished the course by week 7 using his video lectures. Recommend taking online so you don't have to attend the recitation.
I took an online math class where he had done the pre-recorded lectures. I probably understood math better from him teaching than any other teacher. Instead of just assuming you know and remember everything from previous years of math, he's good about reviewing everything you need to know to complete your assignments and get ready for the tests.
The CBE method of this course is definitely not for everyone but with good planning it could be a lifesaver, especially for someone who does not like math like me. I didn't go to lectures but when I failed a CBE attempt Professor Wheeler met with me to ask if I needed any help and I thought that really showed what a good teacher he was.
I took this course as a refresher for 1050 and 1051. He uses another instructor-(Janet) lectures, and she is amazing at teaching math. The videos are very clear, you can work the problems along with the videos, or pause the videos and do the work and see if you got the right answers.
Doctor Wheeler is perhaps the greatest Math teacher (via lectures) on the planet. If you are fortunate enough to enroll with him, count yourself lucky. His lectures (both online and in person) will not disappoint, nor leave you in the dark. He is extremely capable of extending help to those at ALL skill levels. I think most can agree with this.
Expectations are extremely clear. Once you understand the CBE process your grade is truly in your own hands. He truly wants you to pass and there are SO many resources available to help you. He has videos showing you EXACTLY how to do each question on the tests. Nothing is hidden from you. You WILL get the grade you work for!! Hard content though
-Never had an issue getting in for office hrs -Competance Based Exams (if you want to learn the material, these reward you for your efforts) -Teaches amazingly with a lot of student interaction -Calc is no walk in the park, but at least its a fun hike with this guy. If you put in the time & effort, this is an achevable A.
Super easy class. Everything was explained well in lectures, and quizzes and tests are spread out. The layout was easy to use and understandable.
Explained topics very well and at a good pace. Always answers questions and offers extra help. Instead of a final the class has 7 easy exams throughout the semester, all of which have unlimited attempts! Homework isn't too hard and lots of time for each assignment. The first assignment is crazy hard but don't be scared away! They get so much easier
Gregory was good for an online professor. There are 6 CBE's you have to pass with 90% to pass the class, but you can take them as many times as needed. I recommend staying on top of things so that you have ample amount of time to take test and redo quizzes without it coming down to the line.
If you try at all you can do well in this class. Recitation attendance is part of your grade, but class isn't mandatory. Lectures are posted on canvas if you need refreshers or don't go to class. A family situation led me to fall behind and he was really kind in helping me catch up. If I take another math class, I will try to take it with him.
I absolutely love Professor Wheeler. He posts video lectures on canvas as well as gives the lectures in person You have to get at least a 9/10 on the 6 CBEs but he gives you a practice exam you can take as many time as you need with different questions and video examples of each of the questions. He really care and wants all of his students to pass
I loved Dr. Wheeler's lectures. He took the necessary time both to explain the concepts and apply them in different problems. He often covered types of problems that wouldn't be on exams just to expand our understanding of calculus. He is patient and understanding and always encouraged us to use the provided resources including office hours.
He was very helpful and willing to help no matter the circumstances, his goal is to get you to pass the class.
Great if you want to really learn the material in preparation for further math classes. Cares about making sure you know the material.
I found this class to be very easy. Mainly because I've already learned a lot of these algebra topics, so for me, it's more of a refresher. But how the class is structured online makes it easy to navigate. The CBEs are difficult because you need a 90 or above on each, and it's an online test (using proctorio). But other than that, easy class.
The structure of the class is unique, however, his instruction is superb.
Calc 1 with Professor Wheeler was not that bad, however, the report form that he requires for homework assignments is absurd. I spent way more time figuring out how to code my homework in LaTeX than I did learning calculus. The math is not hard, but the way the class was set up is frustrating.
Seems like Greg Wheeler takes it easy on his math 1050 classes. (spent 40 minutes talking about what is a number?) But goes twice as fast with his higher level classes, like calc 1. Overall really good guy, is passionate about math. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Most people either love him or think he's just alright.
This is a class where you will want to pull your hair out. He claims that the CBEs have unlimited attempt's. But they are very limited. He will not extend or give any grace with the exams. Not to mention his homework which is the most useless thing Where you will receive no help. The recitation leaders can only point you in the right direction.
Professor Wheeler genuinely wants students to learn the material and pass the class. I enjoyed the unique structure and appreciated all the available resources. That being said, prepare to work. The homework is difficult and going to recitation is a must. Exams are fairly easy if you do the practice questions, but don't fall behind in taking them.
One of the few teachers I didn't like. He posts the lectures online but then doesn't give important information to those online. He would cancel class without any announcements beforehand. Honestly, how hard is it to send a canvas announcement out that class is canceled or a test question needs to be inputted a certain way?
Greg makes exams due on Sunday when the testing center isn't open and during breaks. He doesn't hold himself accountable to make the syllabus accurate and there are multiple meaningful mistakes. Horrible professor. He's archaic in his mind set.
Dr. Wheeler was amazing for 1210 Calc 1 and 1050. He does a great job making sure you understand and providing you with the exact things you will need to do well on homework and tests. His Test format is very forgiving and reasonable. Super great professor. I would recommend him to anybody taking algebra or calculus he would be my top suggestion.
He was a very nice and understanding person.
Great professor, was a note-taking assignment at the end of the semester that I missed because I didn't read the canvas post regarding the time properly. He was very understanding about this and gave me an alternate online assignment. He was a very detailed professor who made sure i understood all the assignments.
CBE's make this class a breeze. Every test can be taken an unlimited amount of times before the due date. No final exam. Must pass all CBE's in order to pass the class.
Professor Wheeler's class has a unique structure, but he genuinely wants students to learn. The homework can be tough, so using resources like Unstuck study and going to recitation are a must. Exams are manageable if you stay on top of the practice. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
Greg is a great teacher. You can tell he really cares about his subject, which makes you listen to what he says. He's great at explaining each topic and then building off of what you learned previously. He also sticks around after class to answer questions. I also liked the CBE structure where you can retake them until you're happy with your grade.
His lectures just make sense.
A really great, passionate professor! He reminds you that he will fight for you and supports you. He truly wants you to understand the material. Lectures are in depth and informative. Only thing I didn't like is that attendance is taken at recitations but otherwise, I highly recommend him!!!
Has a teaching method of both in-person and online. I thought he was as good of a calc professor as you can get. 10/10 for me.
Best Professor available at USU for Calc 2
He is probably the best math teacher I've ever had.
Great professor, allows for many resources if you want to attend class or not.
Overall, great lecture structure, and clear notes online if you don't want to attend classes (although you should attend, it makes it much easier). He clearly wants his students to pass, so he will always work with you to make sure you understand the material and do well.
I would take any of Wheeler's math classes again if I could. Workload was very manageable (maybe 3 assignments per week) and assignments didn't take much time. As long as you stay on top of the assignments, you'll be fine. His lectures were really informative. He also offers practice tests that are almost the exact same as the actual test.
Pretty good class and the lectures aren't bad. Usually not more than an hour. But sometimes on the assignments there is a problem that he doesn't teach you how to solve in the lecture and you end up having to teach it to yourself. He does attach videos for you to watch to help you learn it though.
He is very good at explaining the math. He has videos of all his lectures so you don't have to attend class, so you could do it all online, or just sign up for the online class. He talks a little slow so I liked to watch the videos and speed them up.
I was originally excited however, now at the end of the semester, I would not take a class from him again. There was a couple of times where I asked questions in private about the course and a mistake that was made on his end and he completely flipped it on me and made me look stupid. His teaching style is also very slow and not to the point.
I finally understand basic math concepts that will prepare me for calculus, thanks to Professor Wheeler! I've taken his 0995 and 1050 math classes online. His notes and videos are easy to follow. There are unlimited attempts on the practice exams that are similar to the actual exam!
I don't think I've ever been more annoyed that we are required to go to recitations and have assignments in there that way heavy in the class. I did not like his teaching style either.
The character limit won't let me say how I truly feel. So in short, do not have him as your professor.
