I thought she was a good teacher until she flunked the entire class. I thought I understood what she was teaching and even expected to get an A or B on the test, but then she marks you off for things that weren't covered. I wasn't the only one, most people couldnt even finish the test in time.
Dr. Gee is a difficult teacher however she is the best professor I have had at NAU. She is clear and forces people to work and get interested in the topic. Many students retake her classes several ttimes because she is so clear about what she is teaching.
Ar first this appeared to be a tough yet rewarding class. After the first test it was clear she liked flunking people. She showed an obvious preference to those students who lived outside the US at one time. She told us what she wanted on the test, we repeated it exactly, and she failed us.
Dr. Gee is an excellent teacher. Contrary to what some have said, a good number of students did quite well in the class. Some students don't like to actually be challenged, preferring to be cranked through the system. If that's you, don't take her class. If you want to be challenged and actually learn something, by all means take her class.

Challenging, but awesome.

You can't get away without reading or studying, but it's an awesome class. She makes her lectures very clear, and makes sure you know exactly what to expect on exams. If you take this class, take it with Dr. Gee!
Not a bad teacher but difficult on her tests!
Gee is AMAZING!!! She is brilliant, has a great sense of humor and truly cares about her students. She grades harshly but fairly and if you're open-minded enough you can learn a lot!!!
Great teacher, very clear, difficult tests, but wonderful if you want to learn something.
Dr. Gee is by far the best professor I have had. She knows what she is talking about and lays it ok very clearly. However, you have to go to class if you want to score good on her tests. They are fairly difficult, but if you follow her outline and take good notes you will be fine. Also, talk to her in her office hours as she is extremely helpful.

She is awesome! You do have to work hard on both the tests and the papers but it is worth it. She doesn't go easy on you but she is a fair grader. She has a great sense of humor and likes to hang out with her students outside of class. I learned more in her class than any other I have taken. Gee is the best professor I've ever had.
Great professor who really cares about student progress and gets to know students on a personal level. She knows her stuff and classes were always interesting. The textbook was very readable, but the reserve readings sucked. The tests were intense and there were two research papers, but I'd take her class again in a heart beat. Conservative, too!
She treats it like a graduate level course. So expect alot of work. Also, its weird people in the class love Dr. Gee. They beg her to teach more and treat her like a friend. Interesting teacher but hated the Gee-fanatics.
Gee grades really hard for this class, but it is so worth it. It is a very interesting class
It's not possible to skate by in this class -- you have to study, and you have to show up, but it's a very enjoyable class if you put the work into it. She is genuinely interested in the subject, making sure you know it, and offering help when people need it.
Absolutely awesome! She makes no bones about her class being hard, but it's not busy work. Everything you do will enhance your knowledge of politics.
her short trendy hair cute is to die for! I secretly hate her because she grades too hard, but she keeps me interested
She is very unforgiving. I got low marks on one minor assignment early in the year and was never able to recover.
Hard class, teacher doesn't seem to realize that her students have to spend some time on other classes too. Also some people REALLY enjoy her teaching it gets kind of weird. I have to say that between the horrible work load and odd students I hated this class.
She knows her stuff, great teacher, but you will need to do the homework and read a lot!
Russian & Central European Politics If you want a professor who loves what she teaches, this is the one to look for. She's very energetic and fun to participate in lectures with. She is hard, but if you see her in office hours she will be honest and tell you what you need to do to succeed. I highly recommend Dr. Gee--she totally renewed my lo
She was very hard and unwilling to compromise. She seems to enjoy failing her students.
I took this class not knowing how tough it would be. She has a VERY specific way in which she likes written assignments done and will only help you if you come in every day before class. I dropped her class because I had other things to do, and I walked past her in the SBS building and waved at her and she glared at me. That got me steamed.
Great teacher! She makes you want to go to class and learn. She is awesome and energetic.
She is everything a teacher should be! She is totally the worth the reading you will need to do.
Hahaha. Reading these reviews they are right on. She is a very good teacher. Study and you will do fine. The kids in the class are VERY weird. I like the post that said Gee-fanatics. It was a strange experience.
Her grading is based on how well you jump through her hoops. She's not clear on what she wants going into the first exam and paper. You have to meet in her office to find out what hoops she wants you to jump through.
She's a great teacher. She will get you interested in topics you never thought twice about, and keep you awake during class.
I took her security class and it was definitely my favorite of the semester. She has high expectations but it gets you motivated to push yourself. If you keep up with the reading and attend class regularly you will do well. If you slack off then you won't. Gee is a really great professor as long as you can keep yourself interested
She is the type of teacher that pulls a lot from her notes. The class is very enjoyable and fun. She is very helpful in office hours and if you make the changes she suggest you should be fine. *Make sure if your going to take her class to take good notes and pay attention.
Dr. Gee is wonderful! She's fun, interesting, clever and intelligent. I never minded waking up for her class and there was never a lame day! She's so helpful and the content isn't that difficult, just study.
She's easily the best professor I've ever had. I've taken 3 of her classes and every one of them has been so interesting! She's extremely willing to help if you put in the time to visit her office. You really have to go to class to do well, she's a difficult grader but makes it clear what she wants on papers and exams.
I took this class as a random liberal studies class, and ended up falling in love with politics because of it. She is one of my favorite professors. If you show up to class, and take notes, you will get an A. Almost 0 home work.
Such an easy, interesting class as long as you attend class, take clear notes, and pay attention.
I'm and engineer and have little interest in politics, but I absolutely loved her class. She doesn't take attendance but You will fall behind if you miss class. The only grades are from tests and quizzes which are challenging. but if you take good notes you will do well. It made me want to take more of her classes
Dr. Gee is a really great professor. If you're in her hybrid POS 120 class, don't bother buying the book. TAKE GOOD NOTES. Her tests aren't hard if you attend every class and take organized notes. If you're even remotely interested in global politics, tai this course with her! Her class made me want to have a Global Studies minor!
This is the only political science class I have taken but Dr. Gee was easy to follow and the subject matter was mostly interesting. Go to her office hours.
Test are essay test but she gives you everthing you need, there is a lot of studying for this class but is great if you want to learn the stuff. She is helpful, homework wasnt too bad.
Class is 3 essay exams and 2 essay papers. It is straight-forward; if you want to work hard and put in the time, she will be willing to help you and you'll probably get an A. If you want an easy A with no effort, not the class for you. She knows the difference between these kinds of students and you will not be able to fool anyone if you slack off.
By far my favorite teacher. Her class is not easy, she expects a lot from her students. Her lectures are amazing. Be prepared to take notes and lots of them I would average about 2.5-3 pages of notes per lecture. Only take this class if you are a Poly- sci major or have an interest in the subject. Slackers are weeded out real quick.
Dr. Gee is a great professor. She has a handle on the top political science professor at NAU. She is knowledgable about what she teaches, excited to teach, and willing to help her students succeed. Her classes are definitely challenging, but worth it in the end because of how much you learn.
You HAVE to pay attention
Gee is the most amazing professor I have ever had at NAU. This class is incredibly interesting and fun. She is engaging, her lectures rock, and she cares so deeply about all of her students. This course requires one 12 page paper and one 20 page paper, but she gives you a lot of time to work on them and a lot of help. She makes everyone love class.
Gee whiz. Oh Gee, where to begin? Gee is a total inspiration. Gee would never let you down, Gee is never going to give you up, she's definitely never going to run (actually she does run) around and desert you. In further seriousness, Dr. Gee is probably the best poly sci professor at NAU... and she will change your life and crush your dreams.
I've taken five classes from Gee and she's the best professor I've ever had. She doesn't take attendance but you will fail if you don't go. "Required" readings are discussed thoroughly in class so you don't have to read them. Long tests but she gives you all the info in class. Super helpful if you ever had questions. Lectures can run long.
Many, many assignments leading up to final paper. Spent so much time doing what she asks for, only for it to get ripped to shreds. She's a heartbreaker.
I've taken 2 classes with Dr. Gee so far and she is one on the best professors at NAU. You don't need a textbook, just make sure to attend her lectures. That's where the test material comes from. The lectures are great so it's not hard to attend her class. Make sure to pay attention and take a lot of notes and you should get a good grade.
Gretchen is passionate about what she does and I love it, she engaged me in her lectures and made me want to come to class because although every class is a lecture, she still somehow made it interesting. There are only 5 things she grades in the class and pretty much all of them are writing-based. If you don't like essays, DON'T take her.
Taking POS120 with Gee was the best decision I ever made. I had already taken upper divisons with her so I was prepared. This class was definitely tough for those who had never had her before. She is big on writing and is a detailed grader. I highly recommend taking her class if you want to succeed in other classes in the department.
Genuine professor. Not for the weakhearted.
This class is basically her having you read a lot of articles written by scholars and analyze and discuss them in class, so if you don't go to class, you'll have no idea what to say on the exams (which are essay based).
POS380 is a great course. Basically you read an article, then discuss it in class. The tests are based on what you discuss. There are big papers but they're self-guided so you kind of actually want to do them.
Dr. Gee is a quality lecturer and her Russian Politics class is excellent. The class is tough though, be prepared.
Probably my favorite professor in my entire academic career so far. Engaging, intelligent, hilarious, and tough. Just yes, take any of her classes. You won't regret it.
Dr. Gee is the best professor Ive ever had. She is extremely knowledgeable and very thorough in lectures. Although attendance isnt mandatory, if you dont go you wont get the information discussed and it will be difficult to answer the essay exam prompts which are specific. She is so funny and lectures are so interesting that time flies by.
She tries to seem like a hard ass but she's a big teddy bear. Just go to class or do the reading and you will be fine.
Dr. Gee is the best professor at NAU. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. The articles she has you read are interesting. She teaches her students how to analyze articles and develop their writing skills. While she can be intimidating, if you prove you care, she will respect you for that. Please take her class!
BEST PROF in the department. No doubt. Challenging, engaging, and she gives 100% everyday for each of her students. Not an easy class, but who is paying for easy? If you sit through one of her classes you will learn, even if you dont want to. Take notes - thorough notes - and you will pass.
Dr. Gee is the best professor I have ever had. She knows what she's talking about and makes you want to learn. The classes can be hard pay attention and take lots of notes but its worth it!
So, the class is the same as her other 300-level courses. Read an article, take notes, exam on articles. But they're open note, so that's cool. She has clear criteria for the capstone paper, and you'd have to consistently ignore her feedback and attempts to help you to fail this paper and this class.
Dr. Gee is truly the best professor I had at NAU. She is kind and caring but expects her students to put in the work for their grades. Read the readings, take notes in class, and you'll do fine.
I absolutely adore Dr. Gee, she was my favorite teacher by far, and I would happily take other classes with her. She doesnt like computers/phones (paper notes only) and her lectures are in depth with many clearly stated learning outcomes. If you are good at taking notes this class will be a breeze for you.
you get extra credit for going to her office hours and she is an awesome person to talk to. You get before & after assignments every class and sometimes the TA would be a tough grader. She drops the 2 lowest grades for before and after class assignments which is nice but the pace of her class is so fast sometimes you can't understand. STUDY STUDY!!
Dr. Gee is truly one of the best professors at NAU. She knows what she is talking about and cares for her students. Do the reading!!! Take notes of everything (handwritten only as there are no devices allowed). Ask questions if you have them and she will do everything to help you. grading is tough but always fair. Go to class!!
Dr. Gee is an amazing instructor who truly cares about her students. It is very obvious that she is passionate about what she teaches which makes the classes, which are very lecture heavy, more engaging. Don't skip class because she bases her tests on everything from class. I love to have another class with her!
Dr. Gee is an incredible professor who is so easy to talk to. I loved coming to her class because she made even the most boring of topics interesting. One of the best instructors I've had at NAU so far!
Dr. Gee is one of the best teachers I have had in my life. Her lectures and teaching style are engaging. She cares about students and the most accommodating with covid problems (even gave us the option to cancel one of our essays). I didn't do any of the reading. Test content is the lectures- basically putting her lectures in an essay
She is an 80% professor, which means that 80% of her class grades are exams. If you struggle with writing, this class isn't for you. She is incredibly strict on the use of technology and prefers mandatory submissions in person. She has prided herself on being difficult to work with, and more difficult to pass. I do not recommend.
I graduated from NAU in 2017 and have taken two of Dr. Gee's classes. I am writing this 3 years later because she is one of the few professors I remember. Her lectures stuck with me, and she was by far the professor with the most impact. Yes, her classes were rather difficult, but if you have a chance to take one of her classes, don't pass it up.
Dr. Gee is a great professor and very lecture-heavy but if you take good notes and work hard you will do well make sure you attend class and you will have to study hard to earn your grade but her class is definitely worth it.
This is a 120 class and here I am struggling because she is soooo lecture heavy. I even emailed her and asked if there was anyway we could get powerpoints or more notes because its very difficult for me to listen and write, especially because she speaks so fast. She has very high expectations even for a simple class. Do not recommend.
Currently taking one of her 101 classes and it is incredibly difficult to get a good grade on a paper. I thought I was an average writer prior to taking this class but now I cannot do better than a C on any of the papers. Great lecturer and a great professor but be weary if you are not a strong writer. The expectations are far too high for a 101.
Her classes are very lecture heavy but far from boring. Her class was my favorite out of the semester and I genuinely looked forward to them. Attend class and take good notes and you will be fine. I hope I can take her again in the future!
Dr. Gee is by far the best professor Ive had here at NAU. She doesnt use powerpoints or post her notes online so you have to attend class in order to get the content. However, she makes her discussions very interesting and really engages with her students. She always has a smile on her face and its clear she is passionate about what she teaches
Prof. Gee is hands down the best professor I have ever had. She is enthusiastic and caring about her students. On essays, instructions are laid out very clearly, and she gives great feedback. She completes grading promptly, and her lectures are full of student participation and are always compelling. Prof. Gee wants you to succeed!
Gee is truly a great professor, and makes politics easy to understand for those who aren't well-versed in it. Freshmen will find this to be a hard class. It's not, you just need to take good notes. Hence why her exams are solely based on what the lecture is about. Leans on the liberal side, but gives both arguments equal weight and time.
Dr. Gee was incredible: she explained the material well and made the class interesting. Just be warned that you have to go to class and it's best to participate whenever possible, and reading really helps.
Dr. Gee is seriously one of the most amazing professors I have ever had at the University. She is incredibly difficult, and all of her lectures, everything she says, will be on every single exam. But, she makes her lectures interactive and fun, really covering all of the interesting material you want to learn, so you don't mind taking 7 pages a day
Dr. Gee was my fav prof this semester. The class is challenging, but you learn a lot. She's a great lecturer and very passionate. She ties relevant ongoing global affairs into lecture to help you understand. The tests are hard, but an A is achievable if you study. She drops your two lowest assignment grades too!
Love her
I learned a lot from professor gee's class, she is really passionate about what she is teaching and it shows when she talks about the material. It makes it alot easier to learn because she is so focused on making us passionate about it too. Missing class does make the class harder, I had friends who would send me the notes but it was not the same.
Dr. G was an amazing professor who, actually care about her lecture and gets into them. She has 2 assignments due each week- one before class assignment that is easy reading, and one after the class assignment that is paper-based on what we learned in the lecture during class. She is a hard grader but if you go to class you will pass.
Lecture heavy, great lectures. Forget to do an assignment and your grade will drop 20%, no make up work. Taking as many notes as u can will save u for the tests.
Your grade in Dr. Gee's POS120 class totally relies on going to class and taking clear notes on her listed objectives for the class. She assigns weekly before and after class assignments that can be somewhat time-consuming but the class only meets once a week. Dr. Gree as a professor is very engaging and available to her students!
Gee is a great professor, who knows her subjects well and loves connecting with students. POS364 consists of two 12-15 page essays related to course material, with three exams separating each unit. She grades strictly but fairly, expecting you to pay serious attention to the readings, in class, and notetaking. If you need help on essays, just ask.
I love Dr. Gee. On top of the fact that she is extremely smart and super cool, she cares about your wellbeing and wants you to learn. Her class is a challenge, but that's to be expected from an upper-division anyway, and you really do retain the knowledge. She is super engaging and will provide plenty of help on the term papers if you ask for it.
Dr. Gee's lectures were very easy to follow and she kept them interesting. Her tests aren't bad if you study for them and take notes in class. The textbook was mostly supplemental in my opinion. She knows what she's talking about and her good reviews are well deserved. Love her and want to take her classes again.
Dr. Gee is amazing; she is a very difficult professor in that she expects a lot from all of her students, and she is not one for excuses. Her class is mostly structured on lecture and note taking, with those notes being used for papers. I highly recommend Dr. Gee to anyone. It is a tough class, but it is fun, you learn a lot, and it is wonderful.
Dr. Gee is amazing professor, one of the best Ive had. She is the only professor that makes me want to come to class and learn every single time.
Gee loves what shes teaching. Very interesting lectures. However, for a 101 it was the most work I've ever put into a class. Tests seem impossible to get 100s on. Insane amount of material taught every week that ur somehow supposed to recall verbatim on tests 6 weeks later. Skipping just one lecture can set you up for a failing grade
This is by far the best class I have taken at NAU. If you are a political science or international affairs major this class will definitely set you up for success. Gee is so passionate and knowledgeable about the material it inspires the whole class. Attendance and good note taking is absolutely essential to do well on the papers and tests
This was a pass/fail class. Attendance is super important. Lots of Public Speaking. Great way to step outside your comfort zone and learn more about public speaking while doing so. Loved this class.
Dr.Gee is a great person but an extremely hard professor to enjoy. Often was marked points for doing things that were on the "perfect example" papers we were asked to follow. Favorite example was nonsense feedback like entire lines through paragraphs and parts remarked as "too long" and then followed immediately by "clarify and explain more"
I love the way Prof Gee teaches. She's very fast paced, but covers exactly what you need to know. She's an extra tough grader with essays as well as the written exams. If you don't like taking notes or doing written exams, I would not recommend taking this class. Being able to keep up with her is essential to passing the class!
Best professor in the poli sci department. Took 3 classes with Dr.Gee and loved them all.
I appreciated taking POS101 with Dr. Gee. Having only taken 3 POS classes in my first year I can easily say that she was my favorite professor in the department teaching the most interesting class. Despite being a somewhat tough grader, I would take a class with her again.
It's been over ten years, and I still keep in touch with Prof Gee. I had the issue of studying under professors who did not care and did not push students. Prof Gee is passionate about the lectures and the assigned work. Expect to work hard and learn a lot.
Great teacher. Very passionate about what she teaches. Only two assignments per week that are pretty easy. If you skip one class, you will not understand the after class assignment she gives.
I LOVED professor Gee. She made lecture so fun and interesting! Although she doesn't take attendance, if you skip class you won't pass. She doesn't provide power points, and the test are based solely off the notes you take during her lecture. Yes, you have to work for your grade but the class is so worth it! I highly recommend. Best professor!
Must go to class to be prepared for exam! She talks fast most lectures, but is willing to repeat anything you may have missed. The before-class assignments are simple and don't need to read to complete (not on exam either). Everything on the exam is from the after-class assignments and lecture. She makes the class enjoyable and is super caring!
This has been my all-time favorite class with my favorite professor. Dr. Gee is passionate about the topics in this class and teaches in a way that is incredibly engaging. Her guidelines for the papers are clear and she provides detailed feedback. Go to every class and take good notes. Definitely recommend to any polisci/IA major
Took 3 classes with her and loved them all. I feel like I learned the most in her classes than the rest of my degree. Come to class, know how to study, and follow her guidelines and you'll be golden. 364 is an amazing class from her but also definitely a challenge.
Dr. Gee can be a difficult grader but she is very clear in terms of what she expects and what she will grade on. The papers have clear outlines and tests are easy to study for because her lectures are so well structured. Additionally you can tell she is very excited about what she is talking about!
I only stayed at NAU for 2 semesters, and Dr Gee was one of the professors that made me want to stay. She cares about her students and makes international politics extremely fun and interesting. I took her both semesters in POS120 and POS378, and I have not had a better professor.
This professor is the reason I love international politics. Her way of teaching and just her personality is everything. This class has long papers, and she is a strict grader, but they all serve a purpose and make you understand it at all levels.
For the third time, Gee's class was my favorite of the semester. Super engaging class, amazing lectures, and diverse topics throughout the semester. Two 8-12 page essays and three tests make up the entire grade but clear instructions are given far ahead of time. 10/10 Recommend this class
Dr. Gee is probably one of my favorite professors of all time. There were speaking assignments, and some essays. The first half of the class was crazy easy, all we had to do was show up to class and do an occasional speech. The last half was a little more stressful with more papers. Take Dr. Gee over literally every other poli sci prof at NAU.
Dr. Gee is the best professor at NAU. She lays an outline for notes and talks through all of the points with material you'll need, so write as she talks! As long as you take notes on everything she says and pay attention in class you will do well. She is very friendly and so knowledgeable about the world, taking her classes are definitely worth it.
professor Gee is my favorite professor at NAU. her classes are quite challenging but if you pay attention to the you will do well. She does not require attendance but if you do not go you are sure to fail. She assigns lots of long readings but most of the time its not necessary to read them if you take good enough notes and pay attention in class.
Gee knows what she is talking about. She is easily the best professor in POS and cares about students a lot. Class can be pretty difficult, but so worth it. She has so many personal stories and experiences that help with comprehension, and she is understanding. So well rounded in her knowledge and so much to learn. 3 exams, 2 papers - no homework!
If you're a Political Science Major at NAU do yourself a favor and take a class taught by Dr. Gee. It doesn't matter which one. She is quite literally the best Professor in the PIA Department. She makes lectures insightful and entertaining. For POS120 the work isn't hard, you need to show up and pay attention!
Amazing professor! Dr. Gee is engaging and made me feel excited to come to class and learn from her. The class can be a lot of work, but it is super easy if you show up to class and pay attention. Weekly assignments can get kind of repetitive, but she drops the two lowest before and after class assignments. She is the best in PIA, take her class!
Professor Gee's POS120 class is a must-take. She's engaging, knowledgeable, and makes the material really interesting. Staying on top of the before-class assignments and taking thorough notes in lecture are key to success. I also found Unstuck ai super helpful for exam prep.
I am retroactively writing this review years after graduation, I promise this woman is the single worst educator I have ever had the displeasure of working with. Entirely unwilling to give extensions even in the most dire circumstances. Failed me for missing one "important" class at the end of the semester. AVOID THIS PROF IF POSSIBLE!!!!
Was the course TA. She or NAU could be sued for title 9 sex based discrimination because she purposely leaves teaching men until last, if at all. Told students many times that she puts women and trans fms first and POCs ahead of whites. Teaching method is mostly just reading review. Retaliation is her go-to. Hot mess. If male, then avoid.
Dr. Gee was by far my favorite professor I've ever had. She made the class so engaging and interesting that I actually looked forward to coming every day because she made learning fun. Her lecture style was incredibly effective—she prioritized taking notes on ideas and their meanings rather than just one-line definitions.
