Very knowledgable but her tests are extremely hard!
Nice, clear and very smart. Work is kind of hard, but you will know your stuff.
nice, what she says is on the test is on the test, very helpful
super nice, intelligent person, great teacher, you will know what u should know
very nice and helpful. also offers extra credit to bring up your grade.
she's very sweet and very smart.....But hard tests and hard paper grader.
A very helpful, warm, compassionate person. She will go out of her way to help you do well in her class. If you dont take this class with Prof. Owens, then you are a fool!
This is what a professor is like that teaches on a college level. She expects a lot...but with good reason. You can't slack in her class. One of the nicest people I've ever met!
Take her for thesis. She will do everything to help you.
I have had Professor Owens twice! Her tests were right from her notes and reading. Her lectures can spark conversations about the topic and further your understanding. Sincere, intelligent, caring, everything I aspire to become!
she is a tough grader- but she is a great teacher.
She's full of life, has a great attitude toward the subjec, she loves what she does. She is a little bit of a hard grader, but her tests are right from the notes and she is always willing to stay after class to help answer any questions
Prof. Owens is a great lady. However work load is alot, more than any other class... she is extremely helpful... test are straight foward... I would probably take her again
Take her. She is so smart it blows your mind. She is very helpful and teaches a lot. But if you are a slacker and want to slide by take someone elses class. You will not pass.
SHE IS VERY SMART, HOWEVER SHE MOVES WAY WAY WAY TO FAST. SOMETIMES YOU CAN NOT EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE IS SAYING. SHE IS ALSO A VERY TOUGH GRADER. BEWARE....
She is such an amazing, smart woman...She has made me want to become a teacher so much...you can tell she loves her job, and she makes learning so much fun...the only thing is her tests are hard, you gotta do the work or else it will show...
She would probably be great for an easy class such as CS 101..However, taking her for psychoeducational assessment(it's a bit difficult--and I have all A's)is not fun..She goes wayyy too fast..She's a nice person &very enthuiastic..Be prepared to be lost!
I found the fact that she worked so hard on preparation to be something great. The class was challenging, but having her for a professor made it worth while!
very hard, tries to be sweet
GREAT TEACHER!! Knows her stuff and so will you at end of class. Tests are tough...final is killer even...and its even open noteboook!! Pay attention and you'll do great....If you have A.D.D your doomed.
She speaks ridiculously fast - she is knowledgeable but big deal if you dont know how to share it properly - we are not computers - 90 percent of the assess. crap she taught you dont need - and i know bec. i am now a spec. ed. teacher- MAJOR STRESSER
Way too fast- Gives too much notes in one day and is a HARD grader. She is so smart that nothing you can do will be right. Talks till the very last second. NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE.
This year is the second time I'm taking Dr. Owens. She is a very intelligent woman who works very hard to prepare her students for teaching. I find her challenging and a wonderful teacher as well as person. Definitely worth taking!!!
Class is easy and interesting. She shows good movies and lets you tell stories about your experiences. Her test questions can be hard though. She always keeps you late.
She is the best professor i've ever had.... so sweet and knows so much. If i was her age, I'd be her best freind. Very easy going and patient with late assignments. I'm telling you, you gotta take a class with her!
This Professor was extremely difficult. For such an easy class, i don't understand why it had to be so difficult. Her tests are like another language and she grades your papers like she's the best english writer ever. I wouldn't recommend her.
Do not take her class unless you want your GPA to drop, even with 5 extra credit papers! I felt as if I learned nothing in her class and others I've talked to seem to agree. She marks up your paper with more ink than you do. Her tests are ridiculous. Gets mad when you're late yet is late herself.
This is a very hard class. There is way too much material to remember. She is very fast paced and you need to be on your toes the entire class. You must put in a lot of effort and studying to do well. BUT she does drop 1 test out of 5 and gives you 2 assignments that are pass/no credit. A LOT OF WORK
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! She totally expects you to know everything she is talking about. She treats you as though you know nothing, and even when you try and open up to her she just shoots you down. I do not like this woman at all
This is a hard class but she tries to make it as understandable as possible. She is very organized and smart. If you need a structrued class and need 321 take her. 5 quizes (1 drop) and 3 student tests. Not a lot of work just keep up with it and attend class
The most helpful this professor was was telling us all about Susan Sorandon being her sorority sister. I would not take her for this or any other class ever again.
Definetly, sit in the front of the class. She thinks that people who sit in the back don't pay attention. She has favorites. She also has her own writing preference, so although yours may not be wrong, you still might lose points. Follow the syllabus and all handouts exactly. She is a nice person. Just different, all lectures not much group work.
Absolutely, hands-down the best teacher I know! She treats all her students with respect and compassion. She expects what should be expected of college students. Teaching in the real-world is much harder than any college class, and Dr. Owens will prepare you for it! I still refer back to my CS 321 notes while I am doing my Master's Degree.
I have taken 102 prior to 101. I did recieve a very good grade in 102 with another professor. However, I found Prof.Owens to be the worst profesor that I have ever had at St. Josephs.I would stay clear of all of her classes. Thank God I am graduating this semester.
AVOID taking her. She may seem to be a nice person but thats not the real her. She likes to make you feel bad about yourself. She thinks she is an english teacher when she grades papers. You will never get higher than a C+. Worst teacher i have had so far. STAY AWAY!!!!!
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever taken. Avoid taking her at all costs. I learned nothing in her class and her tests are ridiculous. I got C's with her, and in CS102 with another professor, the first test I received 100. I THINK IT'S GRETCHEN, not me! Do anything you can to avoid this witch. PS she think's shes an english professor.
IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE 321, I HIGHLY ENFORCE YOU NOT TO TAKE THIS WOMEN. I've never received lower than a B on anything (lessons, papers, journal abstracts etc.) @ St. Joseph's College, and I received two 'D's in her class "Quizzes"-50 mind-boggling Quest.Too deep n Too much. All Unnecessary!LISTEN TO ME! I wish some1 told this to me! PLEASE BE-AWARE!
She is an ok professor. She expects nothing but perfection!!! So unless your perfect I would not recommend taking her. I have her for thesis and no matter what I have done or others in my class she is not happy with it. She will assist you but puts you down while she does it.
Dr. Owens is dedicated, professional, and articulate. If you want an easy 'A,' don't take her class; if you are prepared to work hard, want to learn a lot, and want to be well prepared for the real world, you should absolutely take her classes. She has made my peers and me better teachers and writers, and I wish there were more profs like her.
Dr.Owens really expects you to work for your grade and you will learn SO much! She teaches in a very organized way, and expects the papers and projects in on time. She was very fair about prep for the final. I sought her out to continue the sequence because it is time and money well spent. She uses power points for her notes which I love!
She is knows a lot, expects a lot, but was a wonderful teacher and i learned a lot from her class. NOT an easy A~ she was fair in her prep for the final as well as for the paper.
extremely intelligent woman, so nothing that you write is good enough. tests aren't too bad - as long as you study study study. she grades papers like she is and english teacher, and hardly gives any A's on papers. i would suggest taking another professor if you do not want your GPA to drop
Wonderful professor. I learned a lot from her. VERY TOUGH grader though. Papers must be PERFECT! Besides her really tough grading I loved her and would def. take her again!
She was not nice or helpful!I did not enjoy her class in the least.
She is an intelligent person, but is very hard on students when it comes to grading i.e papers, tests. Her tests are so difficult even when you study really hard for them. Take another professor!!!!!!!!
I have one word that describes her perfectly: NIGHTMARE!!!! STAY AWAY!
I have one word that describes her perfectly: NIGHTMARE!!!! STAY AWAY!
She is not a BAD lady. However, she can be very conceited. She has made some comments in class I feel she had no business making and is definitely a feminist(this is one CS class where you don't want to be the only guy in the class). Takes off pts for capitalization on tests in a class that has nothing to do with grammar. I don't recommend.
A touch professor will make work very hard, tests are totally insane even if you study like crazy for them.
Professor Owens is a very sweet lady and completely relies on powerpoints and movies to teach us. She will let you redo everything but is not very clear about what she wants. Overall, she is an alright professor
In the end i would have to say the class it self is awful. Her tests are crazy, and no matter how hard you try or what you do she only cares about the grades. That being said if your grades add up to a B don't expect anything more then a B. Tough class and to make matters worse the professor isn't the nicest.
I have taken her for numerous classes and she is amazing. She is indeed difficult, but you learn so much from her and become a more educated individual after being taught by her. She is more than willing to help you and be available to you. The expectation is high, but you are in college, so what do you expect?! Hands down...the best!
She is a tough teacher and grader. Not all that helpful when you ask a question. Tests are very difficult. Good luck if you have her as a professor.
Very nice woman, however extremely difficult to understand what she wants in her assignments. Grades extremely hard, yet will let you re-do the assignments. She is very vague on what she is looking for. Make sure to study before every quiz, since the quizes don't exactly match up with the material presented in class. Read the text book!
Not helpful, kind or caring! She does not explain new material or information well. She can be confusing which makes quizzes and tests dreadful! Its great that she lets you redo assignments, but who wants & has time to do them twice. She definitely needs to be more clear in her expectations. Truly a horrow show....
This professor is very difficult and not clear at all.. I would not recommend her to anyone I feel like I wasted a semester taking her.. she is also very rude when she wants to be
shes not all there up top, especially in the technology area. great for laughs.... not for grades.
Professor Owens is a very nice lady, but she is a very hard grader. She rushes through the lectures & sometimes kept us LATER then 3 hours! I dreaded going to class so much. Idk if it was bc it was a 3 hour friday class, or bc it was so boring lol. I surprisingly ended up with a B, so if u go to class & do the optional activities u should be okay.
By far the worst professor I've ever had. She was so disorganized, kept us longer than 3 hours, and rushed the material. I learned nothing. Our assignments were graded so harshly, and she makes 0 sense in trying to explain things. I dreaded going to class every week. It was definitely a good laugh though watching her try to work the computer.
Dr. Owens is a nice, caring lady but one of the worst professors. She is really disorganized, can't work a computer, and kept us longer than the hour and 25 mins. The next professor had to knock to get her to stop, but she still kept going. Assessment is hard enough but didn't help taking this professor. Better off wait listing for another class
321 is a difficult class. I don't think it is just this prof. That being said, she cold be more organized, give us the full slides to study from, and be more mindful of time. She is a harsh grader and her quizzes are full tests and she teaches material after. I got a B but haven't gotten below an A in any other class.
kind woman but poor teaching. expects too much considering how unorganized her course was. quizzes were ridiculous with not enough time to complete due to her lectures before or after quiz, rushed through material at times, would run out of time during lecture (keeping class over time), tests on material that was not discussed.
The most confusing class because this professor has no clue on how to give information or how to present a lecture. Not thrilled when you ask a question or seek help.
This professor is completely disorganized. I did not find the content to be difficult, but the way she presented it was confusing. Received an A,however I would never take this professor again. Its ironic that part of this course is about fair testing, when she rushes students to finish their quizzes so she can get an extra 15 minutes to lecture.
Professor Owens is rude and condescending. She does not help her students and her course is so disorganized. Her tests are so difficult and are not appropriate considering she barely gets through any material. She gives about 30 hand outs per class and constantly changes the course schedule. Do not take this professor.
no phones in class. Quizzes are difficult depending on how well you can read her notes. She's very proud of her job and expects the best work from you
She is very proud of what she does and expects you to know the same. Quiz's are pretty hard, set up likes tests because she expects you to remember everything even some things off certain videos. One paper that is decent but if you don't follow her guidelines to the "T" she will take off many points for carless errors.
This is the worst professor in the entire school. she is completely disorganized and doesn't know how to give information. straight up will tell you you probably won't get an A. very tough grader and takes off a lot of points for minor things. Says you won't really get A's on. papers so aim for B's. No study guide for final exam. Never take her.
Professor Owens is such a kind hearted person and her compassion for this subject is so clear. She is so sweet to her students and always makes her lectures interesting. As long as you pay attention you will get As on her quizzes. She does grade other assignments pretty hard but youll get through. Absolutely love her!
She is so unorganized and is not good at teaching the material. She gives handouts to go with her powerpoints and they never match up. You are always left with many blanks on the notes handout. Her quizzes are so hard and she makes you remember specific info and even some video info. She is also an incredibly hard grader. I would not recommend her.
I was told going into this class that Professor Owens is a harsh grader. . She always seems to have something specific in her head that she wants but doesn't voice it so when you had work in she marks it up like crazy. Also, her directions tend to be confusing or she contradicts herself. You can survive this class but don't expect and easy A.
She takes feedback super well. Other reviews have mentioned she has gone over her class time which she has not done all semester. She loves the subject and wants to see you succeed . If you struggle with something let her know and she will help . She offers lots of extra credit but If you dont try though you wont pass .
Passive, inappropriately talks to students, inconsiderate with students time. Bails on meetings and shows up late ones. You must have a printer on standby. Expects WAY too much for a 3 credit course. Its time she retires from teaching no one likes a snob.
Expects students to know everything, even what is spoken about briefly. Assigns lecture recordings of 1-2 hours to watch before class for another 2 hours. Forces students to buy printers even though school chargers for printers. If you don't have a printer you can't take final/midterm. Workload for 3 credit class way too much.
She is a nice person and really loves what she is doing but she is very tough. She gives you a fill in the blank handout with every PowerPoint, which is helpful, but they never match up. Her canvas page is is also very confusing everything is in a different spot. She is a tough grader and always picks at every single word on your assignment.
DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. PROFESSOR. She is incredibly knowledgeable-However, the entire course is focused on an extremely hard midterm and final exam. The course content is interesting and useful, but the presentation of it from Prof. Owens, was not provided effectively. Stress and printing-two main words of the entire semester. Stay away-trust me!
Worst professor I ever had. I have never been so confused and lost. She expects you to know everything she does. Sends 20 pages to print 10 minutes before each class. Extremely unorganized. Her tests are not what's taught and she deducts points for minor errors. Take any professor but her.
One of the sweetest professors Ive ever had. She comes across as very intimidating but she will do anything to help her students. There was a lot of readings, assignments and exams, but shes very clear about what shes looking for. Kind of a tough grader, but if you read the directions youll be fine!
One of the WORST professors Ive every taken. She is unorganized does not care about the students and is just rude. There is no extra credit, tests are insane and she is a very tough grader. She calls you out and makes you feel bad about yourself. I had to work so hard just to get a b. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Her quizzes are extremely difficult, you need to study for hours to even get a B. She is also a very hard grader.
She felt it was necessary to comment on things that didn’t pertain to her class. Very rude and unprofessional. Super unorganized. Don’t bother asking for help because she won’t give it to you. You will regret taking her class so do whatever you can to avoid her.
Worst professor I've ever had at SJC. So rude, unorganized, and not accessible outside of class. Will answer your emails telling you to check the syllabus and explains NOTHING, expects you to know everything. Such a harsh grader and I'm a student who puts effort into their work. Avoid her at all costs if you can.
Hands down the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. She is a mess and has zero organization skills. Trying to follow her lecture is so difficult and quite honestly makes no sense. Her assignments are over the top and toughly graded. Not only this but she is beyond rude and makes snide comments about you. Avoid her at all costs.
I will list her qualities and let you decide: condescending, disorganized, callous, seemingly miserable professionally, apathetic, overcritical, inflexible and DEFENSIVE WHEN QUESTIONED. Everyone feels let down by her. I'm sure at one point she was a good professor but it seems that its time she retires, respectfully. I feel bad for her.
Although she is sweet , she gives so much papers and the workload is so much, the numerous amounts of small assignments really do affect your grade especially since she is a tough grader. the final is based off of all of the material from the whole semester. A LOT of material to learn for a first level class.
May be a very tough grader, but I have learned the most in her class. Her class is helpful because you are forced to study for a long time. Her quizzes cover specific questions based off of the lectures. Advice: rewatch her lectures over and over. This may sound painful. It is but, it helps. She is very organized. Posts videos of each lecture.
Great professor, but get ready to work. Grades are not easy A's and if you want a good grade you really have to work for it. Assignments are often cumulative of everything in the semester which can be frustrating. The lowest quiz grade dropped. Gives optional assignments but if you don't do them it affects participation. Wants you to succeed
Professor Owens is an amazing professor. She genuinely cares for each and every one of her students however her tests are extremely difficult. I would study for hours and just cannot seem to do well on any of them. Very tough grader as well but she prepares you for the real world
This was the absolute worst college professor I have ever taken a course with. She is extremely unorganized and a very tough grader. She says she is willing to help by offering extra credit assignments however she doesn't accept the assignments unless they are done in a very specific way. Don't take this professor.
professor Owens is such a tough grader it's not even funny. she allows you to do 5 extra credits, which will bring your average up 5 points at the end of the semester. 4 quizzes, she drops the lowest quiz grade which helps a lot considering her test are extremely hard. her lectures are always out of order. seems like she wants you to fail.
Owens is an extremely sweet lady and cares for her students. She is an extremely tough grader so you need to study and work hard, but I genuinely feel like I learned something in this class. She does give extra credit which gives you five whole points on your average which helps A LOT. Overall I enjoyed her class but it can get stressful at times
Although her material can be difficult to learn, she is absolutely amazing. She is for sure accessible outside of class and will work with her students to make sure they're successful. Her exams are lengthy and not the easiest but as long as you study you will be fine. She offers extra credit as well.
Professor Owens is such a sweet person and truly cares about her students. However, the workload that she gives can become a lot. There were a decent amount of assignments and she is definitely a tough grader. A lot of material/chapters are covered for 1 quiz. Just study really hard and take good notes. The extra credit that she gives does help.
Honestly, I have never had a professor as terrible as this. She is an extremely tough grader which wasn't a problem until points were taken off work that had the most minuscule errors. Her power points are extremely unorganized and after hours of studying her quizzes were still impossible. Don't take this course with her, terrible experience.
I needed this class to graduate and I thought by taking a level 101 class it would be chill. She gave us loads of homework. She gave tests all the time. She is so rude and does not believe in A's. I did not graduate because she failed me. It is quite impossible to keep up with all of the work she gives and I've never gotten under a B in any class.
