incredibly easy. gives enough extra credit to boost you a full grade.
Not that easy, but really nice. I've heard Boo Su is an easiar A.
His ACCENTS are confusing and nothing corresponds with each other
he is a nice guy, but hard to understand, he talks in circles,
Very nice person, but a little hard to follow with his accent. He wasn't very helpful to me, either. I'd ask him a question and, rather than explain the answer, he wanted me to follow my intuition and figure it out myself. I recommend B. Su instead!
i had him for 201 as well. he's a victim of having crappy students... has to repeat things so everyone else will get them.
Nice guy, but he doesn't spend class time wisely. We had to cram 3 chapters into one week because we spent a lot of time on stuff that really didn't matter, like how much beer one would give up for more pizza, just really stupid stuff. Boo Su is better!
His notes were hard to follow; he just threw things up on the board, without much structure. Group quizzes were nice, but difficult to understand;questions were a bit out of the blue. I had Su before& he was much easier to understand& tests were easier
Cool guy. Unlike most ppl on this site I enjoyed him. He is difficult to understand at times but just speak up and ask him to go over anything you need, cuz he will. I deserved a B but I wrote a good essay on the e.c. part of final and ended up with an A.
Very good professor, but has a strong spanish accent. Often gives opportunities for raising test grades.
Great professor, you will get the best preparation for any business school. There is a lot of learning going on in every lecture. If you want to learn take his classes.
he is a nice guy, and a great teacher!
good teacher. extra credit. not much homework. some open book tests. generally test are multiple choice. as long as you do the reading, easy A.
THIS GUY CANT SPEAK ENGLISH,.BE AWARE. His tests are hard because you are forced to read the chapters. B. Su is crazy on attendance and he isn't but his class is easier even though you have to write some papers. In Cruz's class all you do is take tests
I enjoyed this class. He made the textbook easy to understand. Interesting and witty examples. A lot of graphs and math but very clear.
The class was fun. We had computer labs every week and home work. Very nice person.
his tests are not difficult if you read the book. he likes to use many examples and those make really easy to understand the materials. it is an interesting class too.
Don't assume everyone is an economic major. Review the basics a little more in detail or provide a study time for those students needing additional help. Recommend taking micro on line w/Templer prior to macro as the videos provide more indepth detail.
class is pretty easy if you can understand the guy.all you do is take tests. he smells like liquor all the time....
I Have been in college for a couple of years and this is one the best classes I have taken, I even enjoyed economics. There were a lot of immature high school students during the summer and the four weeks were like a marathon.
his test are not difficult if you read the book. He likes to use many examples and those make really easy to understand the material. It is an interesting class too.
No complains I got an A. Very nice guy.
Good teacher, extra credts. not much homework. some open book tests, as long as you do the reading, easy A
Very funny, I am not an econ major but I liked his class. Take Big G class.
I enjoyed this class. The book was easy to understand after classes. A lot of graphs and math but easy. He has strong accent.
I liked the group work and also read the book. he is very nice guy allways hhelps to ask.
Everytime I take a community college class I wonder why I am paying so much in a private college.
Donot assume everyone is an economic major. Review the basics alittle more in detail or provide a study time for those students needing additional help.
I do not recommend taking economics in 4 weeks. I hate it!!
A truly nice guy with a good teaching style, ceteris paribus.
HE A CRACKPOT! maybe he was easy for econ 201 but he's hard for this class. the ave grade in our class is a C he he said that's a good thing. many of the example he gives in class dont make any sense and he doesn't give very good notes. he's smart be he cant teach.
very good teacher
Very nice and helpful teacher, wants what teaches in class. Lots of extran point and quzes and bouneses. Easiest Economy class I had so far!
Hard class to follow. He doesnt make sense and he thinks we get it. He gives out easy points but his tests are hard.
i dont know what the hell every1 is talkin about. our class average was 70. he was very unclear and gave weird examples that just confused me even more. the people in my class were all getting C/D's on his test. i agree w/ the other entry that said he's smart but he cant teach.
this is a very hard class and you have to teach yourself everything if you want to get a good grade. his thick accent makes it hard to understand him and he never answers your questions clearly. i would not recommend taking him for econ...or anything else for that matter.
Guillermo is great...haha what econ teacher can keep you laughing because you can't understand a word he says...on top of that he even writes in his accent!! Honestly though, his class isn't all that bad...just read the text book and you'll do fine.
This class is SOOO not easy. Not his fault, but he is somewhat difficult to understand. His lectures rarely resemble the book material, so you will feel like you are just taking random notes. Your only shred of hope is to read the book to understand. Good luck if you have to take him.
this proffessor lives in another world. he tries to do his best, if u have to take his class, take it , if not find another one
Way different from highschool, his lectures help me a lot with the reading. Funny.
I got it! It took me some time but I beleive he is a great teacher.
He is the kind of teacher that cares if you understand what he is teaching and tries various ways to get everyone to understand him. But, I think that Econ. is a difficult subject no matter who the teacher is.
Have been at coc for a 2 years (and have almost a 4.0)and never had such a horrible teacher. Very judgemental of performance, and bases your test scores on what type of student you are . Unorganized, stay away from him it will make your life much easier!
This subject was VERY hard for me, but Mr. Cruz gives you MANY MANY opportunities to NOT FAIL. Take home tests/quizzes & Bonus points are given to raise your grade. However, YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK TO SURVIVE IN THIS CLASS. Mr.Cruz is very nice & creates a comfortable class environment. Has a french/spanish accent but hey, you get used to it!
Notes are way off of the text, just very hard to follow. Take someone else if possible!
The only class that has challenged me. I learned more than ever thought i would about economics. About the teacher, he cares about you and if you read the book you will enjoy his lectures. Gret teacher.
This was a tough subject for me! You MUST read the text to survive in this class. The tests were a challenge. That being said, Cruz gives you many opportunities to raise your grade, and he will listen to and answer any and all questions you may have. His accent was tough at first, but you get used to it. Overall he is a great teacher.
Overall the class and the subject are not very easy to understand. This class requires you to work and the professor try's his best to get the concepts across. Above all he cares about his students and offers many chances to raise your grade.
THIS TEACHER MIGHT BE OKAY IF HE KNEW HOW TO SPEAK MORE CLEARLY. SOMETIMES IM SITTING IN CLASS WONDERING IF HE IS TEACHING US ECON OR IF WE ARE TEACHING HIM ENGLISH. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY 2 SECS HE IS STOPPING AND ASKING IF WHAT HE SAID IS RIGHT OR HOW TO SPELL SOMETING. SO ANNOYING!!!!
NOT a good econ teacher! Makes life difficult, and has a very hard cummulative final. Take somebody that you will learn something from...
Fifteen chapters in four weeks? Do not take economics in the summer is hard. I love the subject and big G was a great teacher.
He is a good teacher just he is way to much into the subject and doesnt let it go. He is helpful but can be a little better if he only would listen to us rather thant talk to the whole time.
kind of difficult to get through his accent but if you have questions he is there and he goes out of his way to make the material interesting
Definitely my favorite teacher. People say his accents are hard to understand, but i can understand him just fine. He is a GREAT teacher. He turns the boring economy class into a total fun cracking session. His examples with stories and "money" help me understand the topic perfectly. And he gives LOTS of chance for people to pass the class. A++++++
Big G is a great teacher. He makes econ a fun subject to learn, if you can believe that! His tests are somewhat hard but he gives students alot of chances to get an A. All you have to do is read and read and read. I would recommend this teacher to anyone.
he's a great person but his class was just hard to follow and learn and understand..very unclear at times..tests are very difficult!
He gives you plenty of chances to get an A. Lectures go along with the material. I urge you to read the book bc this makes the class soo much easier. Funny, caring in a good way, non-caring in a good way (doesn't care if you miss class, just dont abuse it). Very good teacher for the subject. He makes it very easy to understand.
Micro is tougher than Macro. His accent isn't a problem and his lectures are clear and interesting (although I still think reading the book makes the class a WHOLE lot easier). The multiple choice portion of the tests are easier than the essay questions, but he is an easy grader.
couldnt understand him
omg totally sucked cant teach for poop. well basically if u get stuck in his class ur in trouble tests are really hard and he cant speak english he should go back to school.
very hard and he cant speek and tests are hella hard!!!
PLEASE, do not take him. He is not a teacher that wants to have his students succeed. He has been my only "c" in college, and he prides himself on not passing people. He does not help, nor want to help the class. Tests are sketchy, and not related to readings at all; solely to lectures (if you can understand them)!! take templer!!
I love it, better than my university. Economics is hard, but he made it easy to follow the book.
THE BEST econ professor in the college. If you read the textbook and keep up with the note, you'll have no problem acing the tests. He makes the Economics so interesting that I've chosen my major as economics after taking his class. Gives you LOTS of opportunities to get succeed, and is very passionate about teaching. RECOMMENDED 5 STARS!
Professor Cruz is a fun charasmatic guy. He's very enthusiastic about his subject. However, his tests are pretty hard, especially if you miss a lecture. He throws a lot of 411 at you and expects you to get it in that hour. Not an easy A!
Cruz is not a bad guy, but his test are ridiculously very difficult. He'll help you out, but only if he's in his office, which is never, the take home exam and homework is very time consuming, his accent isn't bad like everyone thinks, I think the worst part about this class is the test, if you have a passion to learn macroeconomic take him.
Most of the time he confuses himself. Difficult to understand him, almost impossible to pass his tests. No review for tests, and expects you to apply concepts that he never fully explained. Towards the end of the semester, I ended up just not going to class at all because I knew it would be impossible to pass. Not recommended AT ALL.
First of all it's not impossible to pass the test. Matter of fact, if you actually read the textbook (something that every sane minded students are expected to do), it's very hard NOT to pass the tests unless you fall asleep in the middle of the exam. He's a fair guy, lots of x-tra credits, and top class professor. Take him for the sake of learning
OH MY GOD~He is not a bad teacher. The terrible thing that the exam is very difficult. He said, everything is from textbook but it's not really. and also. he didn't have any extra credits that's sucks.....
WORST TEACHER EVER. what the heck was he even saying half the time? he made up words, confused himself and was too ignorant to accept anyones answers but his own. his tests are XTREMELY HARD. the only way anybody passed in my class was by cheating. only 2 hrs of office hrs in the wk. he should definitely not be a professor. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS.
mr. cruz has good intentions, however he is not the easiest person to understand. i went to almost every lecture and read the book, and still didn't do well in the class. also, his english isn't very good so his tests frequently had grammatical spelling and punctuation errors which made the tests even more difficult.
Professor Cruz is a genuinely nice guy, but his class is sooooo hard. I'm a native to his country and I still couldn't understand him half the time. He jumps around from subject to subject which makes learning hard. This class made me change my major!
Probably the dumbest teacher I have ever encountered. He takes 2 class periods to go over one topic, and he explains them using drawings that don't even make sense. I'm not stupid, so if you liked him don't try to tell me I'm dumb. This guy shouldn't be teaching. I learned nothing in class and the book is ridiculously boring. Don't take Cruz.
why is everyone freaking out on cruz? Yeah he may have mispronounced a few words but english is his third language!give the guy a break! he was always willing to help all you had to do was email him. Hes really lenient if he sees the class is struggeling. hes a nice guy and he really knows his stuff.
This guy sucks
The bad part of this class is that I have to read the book and do the problems. The good part he is very helpfull and wnts you to understand. At the edn you feel that you have earned your grade.
He's nice, but unfortunatly he's not a very good econ teacher. His unusual accent is only one thing, he goes very fast and never stops from beggining to end, he tends to jump around topics back and fourth, all coupled together with said accent. To make matters worse, Econ text books tend to be very hard to read surmounting to all that.
Econ is not an easy subject to begin with, and Cruz does not make it any easier. He is difficult to understand, not just becasue of his accent, but because he does not explain things clearly! I got a B in his class, but it was not easy. There are no assign. only test, so if you screw up on one, it really effects your grade. I dont recommend him!!
Nice guy, this class made sense to me, you have to work you’re A …literally. I changed my major to Business/ Econ after his class. Big G helped me a lot, just read the textbook do the problems and talk to him. Why every body is freaking? The tests are challenging, that’s all folks.
fun class. He knows his stuff, it was more interesting that I thought,.
Great teacher. my best so far, kept me interested and forced us to learn. Exam were not easy but the readings help me a lot.
Professor Cruz was an excellent teacher. Any previous individuals simply stating that Mr. Cruz "sucks" suffers from ignorance and obviously did not get the most out of his class. He has a good sense of humor--ideal for easier comprehension of economics. He is not going to just give you an "A," so be prepared to earn it. I recommend this class!

mr cruz was an excellent teacher and provided alot of real time information during class studies. he encourages class participation and makes jokes inorder for the material to stick in your head. i love this teacher
Is this the same professor that the previous student took! I am taking cruz's class right now, and I am loving it, a lot of bonuses and very clear explanations i have signed already for his Micro class. The best instructor that I have had so far at COC./ Take his class.
Mr.Cruz is a nice guy. Despite not understanding him most of the time because of his accent, he made the class fun.
This teacher is very animated and funny. He makes learning Economics fun. He is from El Savador but raised in Canada so he is Spanish w/ a French accent. Very enjoyable class and teacher
Nice and very engaging. Yes he has an accent but it just made me listen harder. He is biased (liberal) but despite that he is a nice guy and a good teacher. I could never figure out why he talks so highly of socialism but chose to live in a capitalist society. Just one MANY examples of liberals lacking logic.
He is nice enough, but that doesnt make up for his accent and poor teaching style. Half the time he was confusing himself and would get flustered and not be able to explain the problem. He is cool about letting you use formulas during the test, but ultimately I havent learned ANYTHING this semester.
You'll get the help you need if you ask for it
very nice teacher...material is a little hard to understand but he is willing to help with anything you need.
Great professor. He talks just like Al pachino in Scarface. Highly Recommended!!!
Good teacher, tries really hard and cares for his students, he even gives a lot of "stimulus packages" and if you need he'll give you a "bailout" with extra credit. He teaches most of the material very well, but towards the end of the class the material was tough and he had a hard time explaining to his students, but all in all great professor!
Had 2 take home tests! Final was simple, the take home tests were straight off the internet! I found the answers immediately and got a 100% on both. A in the class. Hard to understand, but really really funny and the class is enjoyable for such a boring subject.
Mr. Cruz was great for Econ 201, however, he totally changed his teaching style for Econ 202. Several times I have sent him e-mails without any response.
GREAT PROFESSOR! Mr. Cruz is sooooo funny I just laugh almost every class!! VERY HELPFUL I ussually stay after class to clarify some problems. Remember this is an upper division class, takes time and effort. He made me like Economics a looot. BEST TEACHER AT COC!!!!
He is probably one of the best teachers I have had. He is funny, doesn't get mad if you ask other students for help, and he uses alot of "deals" to help students raise their grades. I took 201 and 202 with him and loved it!!! TAKE HIM!!! its worth it!
took this class over 5 week summer session it was really entertaining and i didn't have to read the book except for 1 ch of examples. test was based on his lecture so if you just listen and take notes, should be fine. test was straight from lecture (mostly) and his examples are funny. GREAT CLASS
Worst professor I have ever had. He is incomprehensible and he goes off on these tangents that are completely unrelated to anything we are learning. The examples he uses don't help you understand the material at all. You have to read the book to understand anything because its hard to learn anything in class.
He has an accent, but you can get past it. He is extremely friendly and sometimes gets sidetrack--the tests are decent, but he does give his infamous stimulus package and bailout plan towards the end! I would definitely take him again.
hes a nice guy and his lectures are more hilarious than they are helpful. they have nothing to do with the tests u take u just basically have to read the book, and the book itself sucks, passed both my econ classes in highschool with As and then this class, good luck..dont learn anything that will be of use in your actual life unfortunately :(
I guess, either you love it or hate it, I am not even in college but if this is how college is going to be then I am going to love it. My friends and I had a blast in this class. If you are for real you will love Big g.
His macroecon class is alright They may claim his lectures have nothign to do with the test but they dont pay attention. Hes and ok teacher, very entertaining. But you do need the book in order to pass.
I took this class online and it must have been his first time teaching this class online bc he was HORRIBLE.Economics is a hard subject to understand & he is NOT helpful at all.His test are extremely difficult & he doesn't help at all and for this class, you really need your professor to help. There is SO MUCH work for this class..do not take w/him!!
CRUZ IS BY FAR THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. He is always late and rushes through all of the material. His lectures don't reflect his exams which are impossible to pass and he constantly needs to be reminded to e-mail you everything he claims he will. Terrible terrible teacher. STAY AWAY! By the way this is all coming from a 3.7 GPA studen
This class was quite possibly the easiest class I have ever taken. He assigned multiple-choice tests (WHICH WERE OPTIONAL), or in other words, you could forgo his tests and base your entire grade off of the final. The final itself had a giant review pack, with the questions to the final inside... and could be answered straight off google.
He is not the best teacher but OK. This is a class you must read and study for because it will hurt your GPA. The tests are more logic than theory based. A very average class.
I failed my first test, but after going to office hours, professor Cruz showed me how to study and how to read the book. I study hard for my second test and I actually started to enjoy his lectures. I had an A in my second test in he replaced my first test F for an A. His tough love and sense of humor make Big G the best professor. GREAT CLASS.
Even after you have adjusted, his accent is still difficult to understand. His lectures cover the material but not nearly enough to help with tests. As a result, it is pretty much mandatory to read and study the textbook (if you want to get a good grade). He does hand out a lot of extra credit and gives severeal chances to boost your grade.
His accent is very hard to understand. His test are super hard. I didn't enjoy this class at all, and wish I didn't take it because it hurt my GPA. This is all coming from a 4.0 student. Don't take this class!!!
is an expressive guy, but has a really strong accent. his exams are hard... but he teaches well. make sure you study everything. final is cumulative... and has a take home exam as well. work in a group for that.. and he doesnt stay after to help at all... good luck with all the reading!
he has a very hard accent, he says that in order to pass the class that you need to read each chapter. not true. i read every chapter and still failed the tests. tests are very hard to pass. he is a funny person with a good sense of humor but English is his third language and it was just a hard class to understand
Professor Cruz is a great guy. Very nice. He is just extremely difficult to understand. I am usually a straight A student and I have struggled tremendously in his class. He is consistently late to class. I read the entire text book and I still did not do well on tests. The tests are difficult because they are reworded til they are unrecognizable.
he does not know how to teach this class!!! I regret taking it with him. He gets his exam from a test bank, and it has the hardest question. no study guide nothing!!!! he was horrible. he is a really nice guy, but the worst stat teacher. he did not understand what he was teaching in the first place, and exams were really hard. his accent is difficu
You cannot understand a word this guy is saying and hence it's useless to show up to class. Study the book, it's your only chance.
horrible.
Tests don't resemble readings or class notes. Do not take
I'm taking the online class. The tests don't resemble any online lectures or homework. They are basically a waste of time. Most everything is out of the "optional" text book unless it isn't. We don't get reviews, lectures, guides to reading, or basic direction for the tests. One of the worst teachers yet. Do not take this class!
Professor Cruz at first is very difficult to understand and he does have tough lectures, but the only people that fail his classes are "Failure to drops". He will help you out with any question you have and makes class fun. I enjoyed his class laughed everyday. Just make sure you can read and pay attention in class. Take it for a good experience.
A horrid teacher. I have been a straight A student up until this point. His tests are ridiculously hard, barely any of his students get A's. He decided not to show up for two classes, one unannounced. He is a nice guy, but his lectures don't pertain to the tests at all. I would tell my past self not to take this class because Cruz is HORRIBLE!!!
He barely speaks English. If you go to him for help, you'd better have a specific example/question handy, otherwise good luck! That said, once you get used to his accent, he is easy to understand in lectures. Not too much note-taking... His class isn't easy, but if you like economics I would recommend him. He is hilarious and a very sweet man.
This has to be one of the worst teachers I've ever taken. If you're considering taking him for stats do yourself a favor and take 140 instead, this class is a complete waste of time. Unless you're good at learning on your own and require little to no assistance or guidance, I strongly advise against this class. You've been warned!!!
Cool guy, but extremely tough to understand. His tests are pretty difficult. If you want to learn, you are probably going to have to read the book, and even then you will have to struggle to get an A. A "B" is pretty manageable with some hard work or prior knowledge, but I would avoid if possible.
Professor Cruz is an excellent instructor. If you're planning for an easy pass and hate economics do not take him. His lectures are based on theory and understanding of the topics. You have to do the reading to pass his class. Most of the test is from the reading, with 2 essay questions at the end based on the theory. Be lazy and you'll fail.
I took his class over summer for about a month. I barely manage to maintain an A in his class. He's very funny and understanding but he grades rather hard. Rather than studying of your notes, it will be much more beneficial to study from the textbook. The final is a majority of your grade so study the textbook intently! You get used to his accent.
First off the language barrier will take getting used to. He's actually pretty good at teaching, and is overly charming and hilarious during his lectures. His tests are pretty challenging, but I still managed to get an A overall. I'm NOT a fan of economics, and don't suggest the class for easy credits, but if you're into econ, he's your guy.
Just do yourself a favor a DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You have been truly and SERIOUSLY warned.Horrible . . . just horrible.
The lectures were very boring and hard to follow. He never engaged the students and the tests were really hard. If you did not read the assigned chapters--which was a lot per day--you would not do well on the tests.
Cruz's class is hard, but he admits that he's preparing you for a real University course that is far harder than a majority of classes at COC. I got an easy grade with SOO for 201, but 202 has been real tough. I've learned far more in Cruz's class than I did with SOO. Be prepared to study hard.
Let me start off by saying this class is hard. There is a lot of material and the language barrier makes it difficult to follow his lectures. Cruz also goes pretty fast and jumps around, which also makes it hard to understand the concepts. There is also no homework and the tests are hard. I had to read the book chapters many times to understand.
You cannot take this class without reading the book. Cruz is a nice guy but not a very effective lecturer. All I did was read and take notes from the book and most of the tests seemed to revolve around the higher level concepts rather than the summaries given in the lectures. Did I mention that you should read the book?
this teacher is inconvenient his teach method sucks. He gives four weeks to do a online which it takes 8 weeks to complete. Biggest mistake of my life taking this class.
DO NOT TAKE! this professor doesnt do anything, literally gives you a vague syllabus and has no due dates. i ahd to email him 3 times for him to tell me that the due date is the last day of class NO STRUCTURE he doesnt teach the course you have to find out what assignments to do and read an online program that he doenst do ANYTHING. DO NOT TAKE!
Nice guy,bad instructor. Heavy accent & doesn't like repeat himself – appears to get frustrated/annoyed. He memorizes lectures and often repeats them. He does have a syllabus but rushes through it to trick students- covering lectures faster & testing prior to date listed in the syllabus. Take this class at another college before taking with Cruz.
Prof G is a funny and intelligent guy. His metaphors and stories he tells to convey economic concepts is superb too. However it is hard to understand him sometimes and he often rushes through certain points. For instance on an exam day, before the test he tried teaching us something that was on the test but had not make any mention on it before.
Macro/microeconomics is a hard subject, and Professor Cruz did not make it any easier. He is a nice guy but he is not an effective teacher. He gives easy examples in class, but impossible questions on the test. Only thing I like was his grading was accommodating to people who could not grasp the subject. If you want an A, you'll have to work hard
Econ 201 is one of the most failed undergraduate classes. If you aren't going to read the material and attend lectures, you won't pass. Period. But the lectures were as entertaining as you can expect for Econ, and he gave the questions and answers for every single essay question on the exams. If you can't pass with his generous curve, it's on you.
tests are so so hard he is tough as hell he hates few people always . never take this class !!!!!
Nice man, but goes off topic too many times during lecture and falls behind. We took 3 tests the last 2 weeks of class even though the tests are supposed to be evenly spaced throughout the semester. If you go to his office hours he will help you, but read the book or you will fail or get at highest a B minus.
Not an easy class but if you want an A, READ EVERY SINGLE PAGE of the required ch's. Pay attention in class don't miss even though he doesn't take role. Make friends and study with people & go to his office hours it helps. On the 1st test I got a D then ended up acing the others. take a ton of notes on what you read and you'll be fine.
I only passed because I kept asking him for help and kept going to office hours. Thick Hispanic Accent, but not unintelligible. Funny man and uses practical examples to demonstrate concepts. Yeah this class is still hard tho. Gotta read every word and chapter. No econ tutor in the TLC.
He was my first Econ professor. He is very intelligent and I respect him for this and his quality teaching. His tests are tough but are fair at the same time. The study guide for the final really helped. Stressful class for me it was the only class i got a B in all my other grades were A's. But since I learned so much I don't regret it!
Very easy online class. Best professor and not much homework like Su. All answers are online. very easy exams.
Econ is a hard subject as is Professor Cruz is great but be prepared to Read and pay attention in class he gives you a lot of chances to pass the class so if you don't pass its because you really don't want to , Tests are tough and the way he gareds is fair as mentioned READING IS KEY .
This was my second semester with Cruz and while he is a great man, his teaching style could still use some improvement. Although he usually tells you what will be on the free response portion of the test (which helps), he picks tough multiple choice questions and I learned most of the material from the textbook. If you ask he will help you.
I recommend but expect 2 do the work 2 earn the grade. You'll need the book & to take notes in class to pass the tests. He is a tough grader & his tests are hard, not open book tests. Most of the time, Professor directs you to the book when you ask about something. There is a final. Advice: set up a study group & get a tutor at TLC LAB for help.
All he does is lecture. I feel like I could have learned better reading the book myself. Basically this class is just lecture and tests. All your points are from tests. That's all I have to say.
Yeah I won't take this guy again, about a third of my class got c's and only 4 a's. Read the book, his lectures are here and there. Also if you understand the chapter review's and graphs you'll get a C
Yeah I won't take this guy again, about a third of my class got c's and only 4 a's. Read the book, his lectures are here and there. Also if you understand the chapter review's and graphs you'll get a C.
Difficult to understand. Lectures are long and rather boring & tests are extremely difficult. I would not recommend him!
Was a very stressful class, hard to understand him, literally all your points are from tests/ final. I wouldn't take him again. I barely passed with a C
I'm a business major and I needed this class for GE and transfer. I took this winter class online and learned nothing. All of his information is very generic and he expects you to watch around 10 hours/week of online lectures on thinkwell. Tests are tough and not all info is covered. Tough grading on essay questions and no helpful feedback.
Professor Cruz was very straight forward, many opportunities for extra credit, take home exams, etc. His honors classes are the same as his regular courses, so take honors. Only thing I felt I struggled with was his heavy accent.
If you personally enjoy and understand Econ, you might do well in this class. His tests are incredibly difficult and the majority of your grade. You need to actually understand the concepts well and be able to apply them. Prepare to study A LOT or get a tutor if you aren't an Econ expert, which isn't likely since this is an intro class.
No homework. All of your points are on the test. The lectures reinforce the reading but are confusing. If you ask a question he will give an ambiguous response... that doesn't answer your question. Wording on tests is different then wording used in text. This is hard because it is really east to flip a concept in your mind and then you miss 4 Q's.
Hard class, he cares about his students, but hard as heck class. I thought for sure I would not pass. My advice and what I learned more than halfway through the class is You-Tube videos on the subject he is covering and read additional outside sources that what is covered in the text book. Extremely hard class. Do any extra credit you can.
I won't recommend him to anyone. Entire grade based on tests. Ridiculously difficult for an intro class. Does a lot of exercises, which none of them appear on tests for some reason. He says reading is mandatory, but i didn't find it useful for tests either. I would never take him again.
Very difficult class if you are taking the condensed summer course. His grade is based on tests with no homework. Need to take diligent notes, study A TON, and pay close attention in lectures due to the heavy accent. Not recommended for slackers.
Let me just say that Cruz has good intentions and his online course was totally fine. Everyone makes him out to be a horrible professor and I was scared when I took his online course because of the bad rep he has. Do not let the reviews scare you away! The course: 10 discussion you do at own leisure, Thinkwell exercises, 3 tests, 1 final. EASY A :)
not the best teachers ever, his lectures are very boring; the test are about 70 questions each and the final was 100 questions with a writing assignment total chaos. he was everywhere.
This professor is tough and equal to a university course except lectures are pointless and are never on the test. You are only graded 3 comprehensive exams and a final and that's it. Rarely any extra credit, but he gave some take home test too. Don't take Cruz to save the nights of stress and anxiety in understanding him. Take it online.
This class was the hardest class I took. Class is literally based on really hard exams where the questions are complex and ambiguous. Going to the lectures was absolutely pointless since he just went off topic and his explanations only made me more confused. His final had a essay, but mc was worth 75%. dont take cruz, take it online to save gpa
Dang. This class was extremely difficult, but at the end of the semester I eeked out a C and luckily didn't have to retake it. All I can say is cruz is insanely hard and his lecture is a joke. Class is based on hard exams that has nothing to do with the textbooks and his study guides are no help either. Even the take home test are hard! R.I.P. Gpa.
Very nice guy, but he doesn't know how to teach at all. Don't get me wrong, he's and intelligible guy, but I feel he doesn't know how to explain the concepts well. Lectures were just him rambling off topic and given really hard exams that are worth 80% of your grade. Read the book,go to lectures and you will only get a C. good luck poor souls.
I took the online short term class. Everything is at your own pace(besides the tests), so you could be done the first week if you wanted. Or you can be like me and wait until the last 3 days. Even still, it was super easy. Only one of the 4 tests had short answer.
I failed this class despite my best efforts. He didn't give any homework, but I read the textbook and went to every class. Most of the grade comes from the tests, which were very difficult questions that hardly seemed to relate to anything he had gone over in class or the textbook. His lectures went off topic a lot and I learned little from them.
Interesting class. Straight and simple, you'll learn a lot. Self reliant is a must due to he's a bit too much on the dude side. You'll work for the A and make sure to do all your work on time for sure.
Cruz is cool but as teacher he is horrible. His tests are extremely hard and have nothing to do with his his lectures i don't know how people can get an A unless they take it online.
This guys is the worst professor at COC, period! He rambles on about unimportant things not relevant to the class and his test are NOTHiNG like his lectures! DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY. REPEAT: DO NOT TAKE HIM EVER, JUST FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO TEACH YOU
Cruz is a good professor. If you're looking for a grade handout, look elsewhere. Students forget this is a college level course and expect to coast by with minimal work. He does not assign hw, but that simply implies you need to find a way to study the material in a method that works for you.
I took Macro in class and that was a difficult challenge to overcome. I didn't even think I would pass, but I did it. I'm now taking the next class I need for transfer online. Thinkwell, 30-40 min videos that will help learn the material, and test/discussions. Tip: Do the thinkwell videos and exercises right away or you might get behind.
If you can find another econ professor online I strongly recommend to take another because this online class is a class you need to work hard at and the exams are hard like his in class exams. They are tricky and the average was a D for mine and some got high grades. Thinkwell does not help neither does the book. Just dont take this guy period.
People need to be more honest with his online class. His reviews should have scared me, but his online class is difficult. You have discussion post, watch lengthy thinkwell videos, hard exams nothing to do with study guide and no helpful feedback on exams. Thinkwell videos take up most of your day and don't even help you. take another professor.
I'm taking his online micro and the online class is ridiculously hard. He expects you to watch Thinkwell videos and do all exercises. We had discussion points and the book doesn't help you for exams or his study guides. I got no helpful feedback for my essay and wrong answers. This online class is tough and thinkwell took up my entire day.
4 tests that are a majority of your grade and they are ridiculously hard- I suggest you get a tutor. Discussion posts, thinkwell videos and exercises (takes up so much time), and one extra credit tests. I would never take this again but I had to for my major. I ended up with a B, but I had a tutor help me throughout the entire course. Good luck.
Oh my lord. I thought his in class was hard, his online class is even harder and time consuming. Here's an overview: thinkwell videos/exercises(takes up entire weekend), discussions, exams(hard as heck) which is majority of your grade. Thinkwell videos take up an entire day and ur doing same amount of work as his in class course. Hard as heck.
Don't do what I did, which is read the text without understanding. You will need to get a Econ tutor for his super hard test. I studied my butt off and still couldn't pass his exams. Discussion post, thinkwell(so time consuming!), exams(hard I tell u hard!) Now I guess take Boo su because everyone is saying that prof is good. Don't take this one
Take this from somebody who got an A in this guys class. His classes are pointless, as his lectures have very little to do with what is on tests. He tries confusing you on nearly every question on the exams and makes his class much harder than it needs to be. I watched YouTube videos that helped a lot. Save yourself the stress and agony.
I took his macro course in class and that was tough. I decided to take it online with him and it was a mistake. His online exams are ridiculously hard and thinkwell took up my entire day! I watched about half of them and ended up with a C cuz final. No helpful feedback on essays. Not very clear what he expects in the answer either. It's tough study
I cannot with Cruz. This class and geo was stressful enough and his exams were tough. That day of the final the test was so hard and I'm like well I guess I'll be retaking this class again. I got a C and only because I studied with a study group. Make friends and study with people in class. Read the text closely or take it online not with him tho.
His online course does not have to be this difficult, but however his online exams are hard. You really need to think about it and read carefully. He barely gives you any time to work on essay portion because MC takes awhile. Thinkwell took up an entire weekend and so much videos. Just don't take his online course at all it's hard. I got a C
Remember this is a college class. You have to put in your own work, he won't do it for you. His lectures are relevant and provide a good overview. He is also considerably generous if he realizes most of the class seems to be doing poorly.
This guy is terrible. His online course is difficult and he'll post a study guide, but it's never on the exam. The thinkwell videos took up an entire day(weekend) and you need to be reading every week. He's seriously tough and when I saw first online exam there hard actually. This dropped my gpa but I need it for business. Eh not a great prof.
I cannot explain how hard this class was. Literally everyone practically failed lost his exams and everyone was stressing out trying to understand him. Most people got low scores. I started a study group and have no idea what I got on final, but I ended up with a C. So many days I had to take a Zanex before lecture. I needed it for my major.
Oh my god terrible. Take Cruz if you want to risk your gpa falling so low like mine is right now and staying up with anxiety before an exam. His in class is hard, but the online is even harder. Online exams nothing to do with study guide or thinkwell videos. Your graded on these exams but if u watch thinkwell you'll only get a C.
There are some online classes that are easy and there are some that are difficult. Cruz's online Econ class is difficult. The thinkwell videos took up an entire day and you must read multiple chapters in a short amount of time. His online exams can be tricky and the essays he gave no helpful feedback. I wish I learned for my major, but he not good.
Absolutely oblivious to the struggling class. Study guides are obsolete and his thick accent and use of comedic examples cause the class to be even more confusing. YouTube videos and or a tutor will be your best friend for this course.
I remember taking this course fall semester. Most people were confused and distressed. Cruz is a nice guy, but for a professor he doesn't explain well and his lectures have nothing to do with exams. When it came to taking an exam, they are so confusing! I actually did study and ended up taking econ202 online, no with him it's still hard.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I have nothing against him personally, he seems like a good guy but he is a terrible professor. He is hard to understand with his accent and his lessons and lectures have nothing to do with the tests. Everyone in the class was so confused and lost, i would never take his class again.
I took this in fall. His lectures is just him telling a story nothing to do with material on exam. I failed most exams and before the final I was at D. I talked to people in my class and we studied together going over problems/terms/etc. I went back home anxious and walked into the final. I don't know what I got, but I passed. Please don't take
One of the worst ever. Just don't do it. Find another option. I'm trying Professor Su this time.
Grade is really based on the 4 tests you take so really study hard for them. He at times is confusing, but he is open to questions. Very average teacher.
Don't take this class, the professor is confusing and doesn't take the time to explain things out. when you ask him to clarify something he will give you the run around and confusing you even more.
I'm a business marketing major and I didn't learn anything in this Econ class; not helpful. His explanations go no where and his exams in class and online are hard. You have to know how to apply problems first before taking online exams. I would just avoid this professor all together, you'll thank me later
Just study the book and youll be fine in the class. His tests can be a little tough but as long as you understand the material you will be fine. He drops your lowest test grade.
Please do not take his class. I made the choice of taking econ201 with him during the winter, by far the worst mistake I've made, my GPA went down. Tests are extremely hard!! study guides don't help at all and thinkwell absorbs all your time with videos and exercises.
I took this class as a high schooler during summer and online. I would not recommend him for a first (online) professor. This class in general was difficult to understand and his testes were not any better. There were many english mistakes which made everything even more confusing. You will need the book.
The tests are nothing like the study guides or reviews. He doesn't give chances to boost your grade.
You will either love or hate how he runs his class depending on how you take it. If you take his class in a traditional setting I've heard his tests are extremely hard. I took it as a hybrid class where all the tests were online and all his test questions are pulled from the free trial of Chegg, and got an easy A using google. Go online if you can.
I took this class summer before senior year of high school. You have to purchase thinkwell, which is a $65 program with videos and quizzes. It isn't hard, but it is very time consuming. He gave study guides, but they don't help with tests. The book helps the most. Discussions and tests were on canvas. Tests were timed and open for 3 days.
Overall, good professor. His class is hard but it is not too bad if you come to class and READ the textbook. Reading is a must and his lectures will help to clear up the reading. Prof. Cruz also helps his class earn extra credit if needed. He explains economics a good, understandable way. Study outside class and you'll be fine.
I took this class online the summer before my senior year and I deeply regret it. The thinkwell activities and videos youre required to watch take up so much time and theres so many. Furthermore, study guides are useless, and the tests are worth 700 points out of the total 1000. Only way to succeed is reading and deeply understand or quizlet ofc.
I took him online and he was not the worse. Just give up on the Thinkwell it takes up all of your time and is useless. He stayed pretty true to the study guide and most answers could be found on Quizlet/Coursehero. What really saved me was the extra credit test that boosts you up 5%.
Hard online course. We used Thinkwellfor Quizzes and exams were in canvas. His exams were nothing on the study guide he mailed. I read the text, took notes, understood the videos, but still didn't do well. He gave out some E.C which got me a C. I recommend you looking at Quizlet first and really reading the question or take B. Su
Took his hybrid class that met on saturdays, due to health problems he only showed up for 1 or 2. Didnt send out a notication of class cancellation in a timely manner. Payed for thinkwell that was used for quizzes and videos and tests were on canvas. A few discussion boards as well. Okay class, but I didnt learn a thing from it.
He's a nice person but not a good teacher. Lectures the whole period no other form of learning so sorry hands-on people. Class is based on TESTS nothing else no hw or assignments. He's not very good at lecturing and confuses a lot of people. He has a hard accent so if you have a hard time understanding people with accents I don't recommend.
Professor Cruz is a gamble. At first his teaching style was confusing. He would tells jokes for way too long and would just tell us to read the textbook. He gave NO homework so understanding the concepts was impossible. You really have to pay attention, go to every class, and basically teach yourself. I would not recommend for the faint of heart.
I took his macroeconomic class online over the summer. I expected the class to be hard, but it just felt very disorganized and he relied solely on a website called Thinkwell to teach his class. They are these cheesy videos that we have to watch followed up by questions from the video. If you take this class, dont expect it to be a reg online one
Worst professor at COC. I've taken both Econ 201 and 202 online, relies solely on ThinkWell to "teach" the class. Doesn't allow you to review questions you missed on exams, unless you contact him directly. Three exams, over 100 videos/questionnaires from ThinkWell and Discussion Board posts. Save yourself a headache, take someone else.
CRUZ is the worst professor on the COC campus! I don't know how is he a professor when he doesn't even teach on campus and makes us study online while he does nothing and gets moeny. I emailed him when our first test is going to be and he said "Ta the thid of the third week" and I asked him what that mean and he said "look at syllabus" FIRE HIM
Took Guillermo for both macro and micro. Absolutely useless professor that makes you pay an extra $75 just to do the useless homework online that you learn absolutely nothing from instead of canvas. On top of that there's also canvas discussions that require everyone to post and comment on 2 other posts. Everyone's post and comments are identical.
Not a good professor. Only way I passed was buying a subscription to Course Hero, that had most of the test answers. Textbook doesn't help. Class is 10 discussion boards, thinkwells, 3 tests/final. Extra credit test will save your grade. Thinkwells are a waste of time, I googled the quiz answers and let the videos run. Hard class, wouldnt recommend
Stay away! Worst professor. Was never available, not accessible to reach, responded to my emails several days later. No clear direction. Wasted money on Thinkwells, useless videos. Don't waste your time or money!
I get the feeling that this guy is on vacation somewhere and just drawing a paycheck. I sent 3 emails throughout the semester. He responded to one of them after the semester had ended. He never showed any of the discussion board grades. Horrible, inaccessible "teacher". Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY!!!!
Does not care about his students. Tried reaching out 5 times and got no response. Worse person ever and should not be a teacher. Students had issues viewing the tests and he did nothing to help those students out I was not the only one. Never had a teacher like that and I advise you TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
Worst teacher ever! Do yourself a favor and take someone else.
I could never reach him. Tried reaching out about 6 times and got no response. DO NOT TAKE! Waste of money and time!
Didn't even remember his name while trying to find him, I basically just wasted money on an online course (Thinkwell) that was incredibly clunky, old, and not fun. Quizzes are braindead since you get to take them as many times as you want and can see correct answers after one attempt. Not an engaging course at all, find another professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!He had no idea how to structure his class. He would switch around due dates so you had to take tests when you hadn't even learned the material yet. He never answers emails correctly so I would literally have to call him, never gives feedback clearly on anything. He also gave me a C despite the fact that I got a B+.
just a big no, the worst professor ever. I emailed him so many times about my grade and he never responded once. The study guide he provides doesn't help you at all for the tests, the think well exercises are boring and useless. You won't learn anything from taking his class! Find a better professor that can teach you economics!
