Fair goes over every test that you'll have to take with him. His tests are based strictly on his lectures, everything that is on the board will be on your test. He has the ability of making difficult subjects easy to understand by making little bits of information so one could see the big picture.
This man loves the subject he teaches, he clearly lets everyone know that Geology is his passion. Transmit the subject extremely well (spoon fed us) and his test are fair. What goes on the board, goes on the test
Engaging and clear, really knows his subject and best of all knows how to explain it. Great explanations and examples, he really tries to put in the position of someone who knows nothing about the subject and starts at the very basics. If you his name, take him highly recommended.
please student don't confuse this guy. he knows his stuff and if you want try to take him for the lab lecture easy test easy quiz and he lets you know what is expected of his class again he likes to say " DON"T CONFUSE ME" he's good to take
The exams are right from the lectures, straight forward questions. I really enjoyed a class that I thought it was going to be from hell. The organization and the delivery of the course were clear. There are a lot of definitions but with the help of the instructor and the web site I had no problem memorizing them. I really enjoyed the subject.
Highly recommended!!! Extremely helpful and willing to go over a subject until you understand it. I understood a lot of concepts that regularly will go above my head. What he speaks about in the class goes on the test, no tricky questions. First time I enjoyed a science class, ever!!!!!!!!!!!
his lessons are on power point and on line. Just pay attendtion to the lesson i hardly studied and got a B+!
Great Professor!! Everything is on power point so you can have access to it 27/7. Didn't have to spend money on the book, wasn't necassary. Explained everything clearly and precisely in class. Made class fun and interesting.
Enticing and engaging. He went over the material and whatever he stressed was on the exams. He really works hard to make understand topics which he simplifies a gives you bits at a time so one can understand the whole picture. He uses a lots pictures and that makes the class so much easy. After every definition there was a picture. Take him!!!!!
Prof Rocha is very passionate about what he does. He uses slideshows and posts them for his students to read online at home to prepare for exams and general knowledge. He answers all questions students have and tries to make the subject interesting esp for those students who would not take geology if it wasn't a core class.
For the first time I took a science course that I TRULY enjoyed. Straightforward, all the midterm and final are solely based on the lectures. Great class, great instructor!!!!
Very interesting class...very cool professor..gives notes online, so you don't even really need the textbook...I would definetly recommend this professor..2 thumbs up!!
BEST PROF EVER! Very clear notes, he wants to help you and make things easy. He absolutely loves what he does, and wants to provide you with a smooth learning experience. i HIGHLY recommend him!!
This man is such a GREAT professor. He understands this is a Core and almost everyone dosent want to be there so he makes it fun. He gives 8 quizzes all take home and he gives the answers in class. Midterm and final are just the quizzes and one paper. Take him you will really enjoy the class. He makes jokes and makes you want to go to class. Easy A
Prof rocha is great. I have him for summer session2. he ives 8 quizzes, study from quizzes.i did not study did not do paper I got a c+. If you everything you should get an A+
he is a great professor. he makes the subject very interesting. both exams are based on quizzes. because of him i decided to switch my major to geology. take him!!!
Very clear on all topics. Will go over everything thats on tests. everthing on tests is from quizzes. Labs, peice of cake with him. Easy A, if everything is done.
Very well organized, all the lectures are online. There are 8 quizzes related to the material. The lab and the lectures look at the same topics (that helps as a review for both). Do the quizzes, read the assigned material and you'll do well. Great class!!!!!!!!
This professor is truly amazing, take him. he is a super nice guy makes geology interesting and crystal clear. he has his own website where all the material is posted instead of the textbook. Wants you do do well goes over everything if you ask.
VERY FAKE PROFESSOR, SAYS ONE THING DOES ANOTHER. HAS FAVORITES AND A VERY WEIRD GRADING METHOD. HE DOES EXPLAIN WELL. YOU COME OUT KNOWING THE COURSE. JUST A VERY POOR GRADER
Great class, great Prof. Some people think that they could pass the class without doing the work. Just do the quizzes, study for lab tests and lecture tests and you'll do fine without much effort. I actually learned a LOT in this class. Just complete all the assignements prepare for the exams, easy A
It is an enlightening and fun course. Prof. Rocha is very helpful. There is no way that you can't pass this course if you pay go to the lectures and complete the online quizzes which are what the midterm and final are based on. There is a paper which isn't hard. After every lab there's a quiz which you can pass by studying the lab questions.
Super cool professor, like your favorite uncle. Strict, but very fair and objective. Each point you earn equals 1% of your grade, no exceptions. Deadlines enforced. No curves. Only one F in our section but no D's; expect to get a B. Some students did not need the books: Google/Wiki-friendly class. Lots of room for your own exploration of geology.
Great
Simply great, I never imagined that I will enjoy this class. I truly learned a lot and the subject although high in some aspects of science it was really well explained. I highly recommend this class with this instructor, just do the assignments and you'll get that A.
Prof Rocha is one of the best in BC. He is funny and makes the subject interesting. The material isn't extremely easy but if you pay attention in class, do the required work (not so hard) you'll get an A. There are few lab quizzes and online hw. Lab is 30%, midterm 29%, final 28%, paper 5% and hw 4% and attendance is 4%. Good class. I Recommend.
Professor Rocha is the best geology professor you can take. He tries to make a boring core as easy and interesting as possible. The midterm and final are both based off of his online quizzes. If you want an easy class while also gaining knowledge about the subject, take Rocha. I didn't even buy the textbook and I got an A.
BY FAR THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAD IN BC. HE MAKES THE LECTURES INTERESTING AND UNDERSTANDABLE. MIDTERM AND FINAL EXAM ARE A COMPLETE JOKE!!! GIVES LOTS OF ANNOYING ASSIGNMENTS BUT THEY ARE ALL REALLY EASY. IF YOU WANT AN EASY A THEN TAKE ROCHA.
I agree with the student below, it is a great class and I've learned a lot from it. However the exams are not as easy as the student claims, you do have to study, do the quizzes, attend all the lectures, and do all the work. All that will equal to a not so easy A.
Best professor , cares about his students , if u have a problem talk to him he is there to help you. If u need geo, take him !
Great class, well organized and informative. Study the quizzes, the online material and read the book and you'll do well. Tests were fair and the instructor answered all the questions with clarity. Nice intro to science in general, I really loved this class.
He's an amazing professor. He is very straightforward, nice, approachable, fair and funny. There are quizzes due almost every week but they're easy if you pay attention in class. You will have to study for the lab exam though which make up 30% of your grade. I hope Professor Rocha teaches for many more years. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
I am truly scared of science and I actually pulled a B. More than that I understood the whole class clearly! Prof. Rocha has a gift in making something complicated and far fetched, into something that everyone can understand. I understood PLATE TECTONICS so well that now I'm explaining it to all my family and friends. Thanks Prof. Rocha!!!
I registered for this class before and after attending twice I dropped I couldn't understand a thing that the instructor was saying. I took it again expecting the worst, instead I came up learning a whole lot. Do the quizzes, read the online lecture reviews and write everything that was put on the board. Fair and clear.
Awesome class!!!! Awesome professor!!!! I was skeptic at first, but once the class started moving and as the lectures were presented I really learned A LOT! One of the few classes at BC where I truly learned something and like it !!!!
Took this class over the summer. Pretty easy, mostly common sense if you're not an idiot. Little bit of reading required for more specific stuff. Quizzes are pretty simple, he lets you make a chart for recognizing minerals. Midterm and final consisted of pretty common sense stuff.
One of the best professors in BK College, funny and knows his subject very well, very helpfull, loves questions. His quizzes are pretty easy and answers are all in his presentations. Midterm and Final are made out of the same queststions from the tests, easy A. You will enjoy his class i promise, i strongly recommend students to take him. Take him!
Prof. Rocha is one of the best prof. at brooklyn college. He gives you online quizes after the lectures, his midterm and final are based on his lectures/quizes/p.p He is very funny and caring. He is always encouraging and helping students to do well in his class. Don't leave BC without taking him.
One of the few classes at Brooklyn College where i really learned tons of great stuff. Prof. makes the class entertaining and enjoyable. Great and interesting lectures. Take him and you'll not regret it !!!
This class really opened my mind to world that is right under us (our earth). It was an amazing journey to see how Earth Sciences relate to everything that we do. This class changed my perspective about science. Prof. Rocha clearly explained the goals of the class and if you do the work you'll get a good grade. A real gem, learned a lot!
At first I had other expectations for the class, but it turned out to be an amazing class. I truly learned a lot of interesting stuff about the Earth, really opened my mind and changed my perspective about our Earth. Amazing lectures and an amazing lecturer. Take him !!!!
Excellent professorClear lecture few hw assignmentdo the work and easy AOne of the best professor you must take in BC
Professor Guillermo is a nice guy. The only Problem is that he is a very tough grader. As a person who tried hard, I was expecting a better grade than what I received. We have quizzes every single week, & a midterm and final of 100 questions each. Would not reccomend.
Hands down, one of the best courses that I have ever taken. I was skeptical at first, but as the lectures and the labs went on Prof. Rocha made us aware of the importance of our Dynamic Earth. Prof. Rocha really emphasizes in the importance of learning about our constantly changing Earth.
The best science class that I've ever taken. Very clear, all the lectures are followed by a an online quiz. I understood a lot of the concepts without much effort. Really a great class, Prof. Rocha makes sure that all what he explains is understood well. After every topic there is a session of questions and answers, pay attention to that part.
Professor Rocha was very nice and explained the material very well, but during the last few classes he rushed through the final topics which made it hard to understand. The midterm was ok but on the final he said that he would put chapter 5-11 only, but put 1-4 as well which made it kind of hard.
HIs class was a challenge because it was online and he wasn't transparent-- he promised us no homework but gave us hw. Quizzes every day. You have to attend his Zoom meetings for participation b/c he would call you out randomly/ ask questions to check if your there. His midterm/final were 300 questions in 1 hours. Needs to work on professionalism.
Really great professor. He is very clear with grading criteria. A word of advice to those who are lazy and unable to stay organized when at home: Don't take him. He is not the issue, you are. Take notes on every lecture, do every quiz, participate occasionally. Easy A. Unfortunately people kept hacking our Zoom lectures. P*rn was playing 1 time.
It was one of the best online classes I have ever taken. I loved how straightforward the class was, from the grading policy to the questions and answers. I would love to be in another class of his in the future, if given the chance! Material very well organized and in sequence. Really learned a lot !!
I would not say Professor Rocha is the worst professor, but he is far from the best. Firstly, the class he was teaching was a total of 4 hours and we were only given an 8-10 minute breaks in between classes the entire time. Secondly, classes ended exactly on time no sooner, no later. He also dives into next subject after reviewing for an exam.
He is a great professor to take during the summer. Very knowledgeable. Loves questions. Encourages learning!!!! TAKE HIM!!!
I took Professor Rocha this summer after reading good reviews and definitely wasnt disappointed. He is a great professor (one of my favs at BC thus far) & makes his expectations of students clear. Course is VERY demanding, but he is available to answer questions in and outside of the classroom. Be prepared to participate often and study hard!
Gets frustrated easily and expects you to know everything. Absolutely awful. Calls everyone out and expects perfection. If you participate and it's not what he wants you don't get participation points. Moves way too fast in a lesson. Awful absolutely awful. I would never take this class again.
I definitely enjoyed every bit of the lectures and labs. Prof. Rocha has a sheer determination towards making sure students learn the subject by having quizzes in class kept me engaged in the class unlike other professors who don't professors who don't put in much effort. I think this was hands down the best online class I've ever taken.
Good class with 10quiz for hw,1 midterm,1 final and 1 essay.easy class which all the answers are online. But pay attention in class and take note because he will call you out to answer question count as grade.Nice teacher, grading clear just follow the syllabus.
Great class! Everything is clearly defined: quizzes, exams, and grading policy. Do the quizzes and pay attention on all the lectures as this material will be on the quizzes, midterm, and final. He will call you in for class participation, be ready to answer his questions. I truly enjoyed every lecture.
Great Class!! The grading criteria is very clear and if you do the work and study you will pass this class. Be ready to take a lots of notes and participate in class (you are graded on class participation). After every lecture there are answers and questions related to the lecture and these sessions are the basis for the midterm and the final.
You will have to participate. Lectures are boring at first. Heavy notes for the class. He uploaded all the chapters ahead. For both midterm and final exam you will get over 100 questions. yes a hundred. Very easy to pass this class. He's very nice professor.
u need to participate in each class even if you answer one question you'll be fine,he talks THE WHOLE TIMEE. HIS FINAL WAS MORE THAN 100 questions and he gave us less than 3 hours to complete. But if you can not find a better professor just take him, you may get annoyed but complete your work on time and you will get a B or even higher.
Participation in every class matters. The professor talks about interesting things but be aware that he is a stickler when it comes to grading and no curve will be applied. I think there was one A in my class.
This professor is honestly one of the best professors I have taken at BC. Especially taking a class needed for my core req he made me want to engage and learn. Even though exams are 100 MC, ALL QUESTIONS WERE GIVEN PRIOR through hw/quizzes. Quizzes are online & one short paper on whatever you choose. EASY CLASS & great professor
The most comprehensive I have ever taken. You what your grade expectations are since attendance, class participation, lab quizzes and lecture quizzes grades are updated. All the questions for the final and the midterm are reviewed. Pay attention in class, take good notes, review every question on the lecture slides, and you'll have a straight A.
A very well organized class. You have timed quizzes online. Class participation matters and you will be called in. There is no extra credit, just do the quizzes and the work and you will get a good grade. He us tough grader and you will have to work for your grade. Attendance is mandatory.
I made an account specifically to rate this professor - took this class over the summer easily the worst class I've ever taken. The class drags and feels so much longer than it actually is. These ratings have to be fake, he's such a strict grader and gives at least one quiz a week.
Rocha is a cool professor and very knowledgable. He takes attendance and gives a participation grade for each class. Chapter quizzes and three exams, inclduing the final. Along with the final exam, he requires a final essay. Pay attention and you'll do well.
please do not take his condensed courses he will literally condense 3 months' worth of work into 3 weeks. it feels like it should be worth more credits. that said, obviously loves what he does. would have been more enjoyable if I had taken a regular semester. you will learn and he is organized. didn't allow us to make up any work
If you don't answer immediately, he jumps to the next person and you get marked absent/get a zero for participation, if you don't answer with the exact wording he wants you to, you get a zero points, rushes through topics and expects you to have perfect notes on them, started a new chapter right after exam review instead of ending 5 mins early.
Yeah don't take it if you don't have to. He will literally skip you and not give you grace if you answer too late even though we're on zoom. Very condescending when you don't answer correctly even though we're supposed to be learning. Everything has to be in his exact verbiage so take notes word for word. This could be a much easier course.
if you're expecting an easy elective about rocks and earth, prepare yourself for something more intense. He takes the subject way too very seriously. The class participation is only worth 5%, yet he calls on people constantly. Participation is clearly important to him.And the quizzes? Just dont take him. save your time and mind.
The class is well structured. Class participation: he will explain and then ask questions about the same material that he went over. Some students cannot answer questions over the material that he explained a minute ago. The quizzes and exams are based on the questions that he asks as a review after every topic. Be attentive and take good notes.
This professor by far has to be one of the worst professors I have ever had . He rushes through all the world , skips people for attendance. If you don't answer the question correctly he will not give you the credit. He lies about when he will assign assignments even if the syllabus says a certain time . Overall I don't recommend him
We did 3 lectures (~100 slides each) in 1 day so we could be tested on all 10 lectures. Does he know that you don't have to put all the lectures on the midterm if you don't have enough time to do them? I've never had a professor do that? Talk about information overload. He was going so fast, it was hard to take notes/process information.
Great class! You just have to study, take good notes, and do the work for a sure A. Participation matters: questions for the midterm and final are reviewed after every topic and one big review after every lecture. Take good notes and be ready to be called! Highly recommend it!
Deadlines are a must, make sure that you complete the quiz and assignments on time. There are no retakes and no extensions. He is very firm on deadlines. All you need to know is on the slides for the lecture and for the lab. Take good notes to the answers in the lab and lecture since these will be basis for all the tests that you'll take. Easy A.
Participation matters. There are review sessions for both: lecture and lab. Pay attention and take notes on both since all the questions for the quizzes, midterm and final exams come from these sessions. Follow the lectures and labs carefully and do all the homework.
The lessons are compact, lots of information intake in a short period of time, good notes are necessary. Factors like daily participation and assignments weigh heavily on your grade, the little assignments add up. If you are not dedicated to the class, it is easy for your grade to slip. Success depends on your personal engagement with the lessons.
Class participation matters: for points and also for reviews for the lab quizzes, midterm, and final. The same questions that are asked during class are going to be asked on the exams. Pay attention, take good notes for a good grade. Attendance is mandatory, it is not worth it to miss a class, since he covers a lot of material in lecture and lab,
His class is not that bad. Lectures are amazing! Exams are mainly based on the review questions in the slides. Quizzes are easy if you take good notes. For this class, taking notes is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Take good notes. He will highlight what will be on the midterm, final, and all the lab quizzes. Make sure that you turn in your work on time as there are no make ups at all. No extra credit either. All the questions to the midterm and final are on the slides. Make sure to write them down as he goes over the review for each lecture/lab.
He had a very nasty attitude responding to emails. Very strict with deadlines, if you missed one quiz online then it's best to drop the class because he won't make exceptions. Deadlines were very confusing to keep track of. If you missed an email, you'll miss the quiz deadline. Course is asyncronous, and materials are easy to grasp/understand.
Don't take his class.
I have never taken a worse class than this one. The professor made no attempt to interact with the students or the subject matter and gave the impression that he was not at all engaged in teaching. If you value your time, your GPA, or your interest in the subject, I strongly advise you to skip this class.
Great professor. Easy to work with if you really put in the work and the effort with the slides and quizzes he provides. Is very accessible outside of class if need be, does have little bit of a smart mouth but nonetheless 5/5 from me.
posts a lot of assignments and makes you join a zoom meeting from your phone to show your screen while u take the exam to prevent cheating but does allow printed notes. if u have the time to do everything its not too difficult just prepare for the exams ifykyk lol
The course is online, but he makes you to attend the class for about 4 hours and half and with your participation that is a must to get the credit for both attendance and the participation; however, he only gives 3% for these two!! like why? That was the most annoying aspect for me.
Not worth to take his class. Skip.
There were a lot of lectures to study and assignments. The quizzes were not that difficult if you look at the lecture slides and watch the videos, but the lecture slides themselves are 100 slides long. The labs got tedious towards the end of the semester, and the midterm and final were both 110+ questions(cameras had to be facing the entire desk).
I am not a science person but needed this class to graduate and I was dreading it. I ended up learning a ton and loving it. The lectures were interesting and the prof reviews as he goes along. He will call on you, so be present. Show up, take notes--the review Qs at the end of each lecture will all be on the exams!--and you will do fine.
Where do I start with this guy? 4 quizzes a week that are basically like full exams, 200 slide lectures, and tedious labs. The midterm and final exams have over 100 questions. If you enjoy tons of work for a class you're just taking for credit, go ahead. Otherwise, avoid it. It's not worth the time or annoyance for anyone other than geology majors.
The lectures and the labs are average You have 10 days or more to complete the quizzes on both. Read the lectures and the labs take notes (you can use these notes for the midterm and the final exams). If you have questions just email them or request a zoom meeting, you will get an answer quickly. Don't leave the assignments for the last minute.
The class is not difficult.Dedicated 4 solid hours (per block, 10 blocks in total) to do assignments that one has 10 to14 days to complete. The questions for the midterm and finals are on the slides (study those). You are allowed to use your notes for exams. Do the assignments the first day you get them to ask questions and request zoom meetings.
Avoid the class, Sure you get 10 days of time but the quiz 4x weekly are 20-30 exam questions. Lab becomes tedious and midterm/final are 116 questions each. Don't take or your gpa is gone. Prof expects 20-40 page notes for exam or else you'll do bad on them.
Prof. will not accept late work at all. Put in 3 solid hours every ten 10 to 14 days. DO all the homework and the quizzes, the answers for the midterm and the final exams are there. For every chapter make a set of notes, you're allowed to look at this notes for exams. If you have problems with the lab, just reach out and Prof. will be available.
This class is exhausting and poorly structured. 4-hour lecture/lab with no breaks, constant graded attendance, and excessive quizzes and exams. Expensive book barely used. Grades rely almost entirely on proctored midterm and final, even though it's online. Easy GPA killer. Avoid at all costs!!
Worst class I've taken. Four hours straight with no breaks is unreasonable. Attendance is graded heavily, quizzes and exams are constant, and the expensive textbook is barely used. Your grade depends almost entirely on proctored exams for an online class. Serious GPA risk.
Do not take this class unless you want unnecessary stress. Four hours straight, no breaks, constant grading, and excessive exams. The book is overpriced and barely used. Online course with strict proctored exams is ridiculous. Little room to recover your grade. Avoid!!!!
This class demands way too much for what it offers. Weekly quizzes, long stressful slides, and 100+ question midterm and final exams dominate your grade. Four hours straight with no breaks plus proctored exams for an online class makes this course not worth taking.
I learned a lot in this class. Yes, there is a lot work, but if you do the work you will have all the answers for midterm and final exams. Regular work for a class if you want a good grade. Even though you're allowed to use your notes for exams, make sure that you study and review them prior exam dates. Prof. is available if you ask for help.
With a bit of effort one can easily ace this class. There is a good amount of work to be done. You will spend the same time taking this as a regular in person class. I liked the structure of the class and the quizzes give a good insight of the midterm and final exams. The lab requires some time, but you can ask for a session outside the class time.
Manage your time, attend class, take effective notes, and ask for help. Don't procrastinate!!! Easy A.
This class required more work than my Calculus and programming courses. I ended up dropping it because the workload was too heavy for my overall course load. It's definitely possible to do well—I was consistently scoring in the 90s on labs and assignments—but after failing the midterm, I decided it wasn't the right fit for me this semester
4-hour lecture and lab in one day is exhausting. Labs are unclear and graded harshly if measurements don't match. Exams are over 100 questions and very timed. Professor said he was drunk before a lecture and isn't a geology major.
This course feels unnecessarily difficult. Four-hour sessions, confusing labs, and harsh grading. Exams are exhausting and proctored. Instructor stated he's not a geology major, which made the course feel disorganized.
Great class all together. There was a lot work, but I ended up learning science. Recommended 100%. Prof is available outside class time.
