She is very caring. She will never turn down a student with questions. She takes time out of her weekend to make review sessions. That being said, the class is very hard, and you take the same tests as Shattuck's class. You can't slack off at all. If you fail it's your fault, not Aksu's.
Goes out of her way to help students. Provides plenty of notes and little cheat sheets. This is a hard class but she does a great job teaching it.
She is extremely helpful to all students. She takes out extra time to help you if you have any issues or confusions. You have to understand that it is a really hard class. You have to stay on top since day one and old exams/ quizzes are a great way to study. You can ask her the dumbest questions and she won't hesitate to answer. She doesn't make you feel inferior etc. Her quizzes are better and easier than Shattuck's but remember exams are from both professors(combined) so be prepared!
Best teacher for circuits by far. She is very helpful and actually makes sure that you understand the material as best as you can. However this class is still very difficult so you need to prepare and study. But Aksu also helps with this giving some examples and pointers.
She is extremely willing to help. She even met with students off-campus on the weekends. That being said, the course is difficult and tricky. Her quizzes are easier than the other section's, but the tests are the same, so be prepared.
Circuits is the hardest class at UH. That being said Aksu is a great professor she will go out of her way to help you. You can even text her to ask questions. This class requires 10hrs a week of studying. The old exams are available online I suggest to do 10+ of them before the exams. Good luck.
Dr Aksu is the best professor for circuit class. she gets out of her way to help you if you have any questions. she is lenient compared to Dr Dave. her quizzes are little bit easier as well. she takes attendance once in a while. i believe six time through out the semester. over all, highly recommended
This class is no joke. However, Aksu buffers the initial mental blow by coming up with helpful packets and being there willingly to answer any questions. Look it's ECE 2300 that you're going to be taking. Either way you're screwed whether you take it with her or someone else because the exams are the same. Look out for her tricks though.
Great experience! She did everything in her power to have her students learn the material and pass the course.
Dr. Gulin is an amazing professor. Her lectures are clear and she provides helpful sheets for the material that was covered. She also encourages students to come to her office hours if in need of any help and provides review sessions for upcoming exams. My advice is study hard and go over old quizzesexams and understand how to do them.
Circuits is one of the toughest courses Ive ever taken and has a really high fail rate. I was afraid of this course going into it but taking Aksu was the best decision Ive ever made. Shes so nice and helpful you'd think she was getting paid extra for it. Taking her wont guarantee youll pass (lots dropped after first test) but it will help for sure.
If you have to take Circuit Analysis, TAKE AKSU!! I cannot stress this enough. She is extremely helpful, very clear, and incredibly nice. The material seems difficult and many have dropped it this semester, but if you stay on top of it from the very beginning, practice, and go to Aksu for help, you will pass.
Dr. Aksu is an excellent professor at UH. She explains the material well and will work examples on the board. Her tests are difficult, because the material covered is difficult. However, if you don't skip class and do the homework and labs, you should pass this class.
Professor Aksu was amazing. I was terrified of the class at first but she explains everything pretty well and mages sure you have all of the information you need to pass the class.
To say that Dr. Aksu is great would be an understatement. Analog Electronics is hard, but she does an excellent job teaching it. She is incredibly sweet, approachable, and truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. However, you have to do the work necessary. Do the homework and labs, try to understand the material, and you will pass.
Dr. Aksu is very helpful and will never turn down a student with questions. It is no surprise that during her office hours, there is a line of students waiting for her to help them. Her lectures are fast because there are many concepts to go over in a short amount of time, but she is very clear and concise in explaining everything. Would take again
Dr. Aksu puts forth the most effort I've ever seen from a professor at UH. Her desire to see you understand something and succeed and even laugh at your own stupidity from time to time is unparalleled in the ECE department. This website used the title "a real gem" for the top rating and I would say that suits her perfectly.
Dr. Aksu is a great professor, one of my favorites. Her lectures are clear and concise and she goes fast enough to keep me paying attention. Despite her being able to come up with very challenging problems for exams and quizzes, she grades generously as long as you have sensible work attempting the problem.
Took her for circuits and electronics. Dr. Aksu is a solid professor. She explains well, and she goes over examples. Her exams are challenging but not impossible. If you show up to class and do the homework, you are set to pass.
My all time favorite teacher. Office hours totally useful. She would sit with me and tell me what I needed to aim for in the class. Very caring and I believe she cared more for a student to learn material than to get a good grade
Dr. Aksu is an excellent professor and one of the best I have ever had. She goes out of her way to care for her students and make sure they understand the presented topics.
The syllabus is shortened,So she goes in a slower pace than regular 2300;Key to an A in this class is take all the quizzes and homework seriously and you will ace the tests;Use old tests and quizzes to practice your butt off;Time management is needed in tests and quizzes; She is extremely helpful Tip:She needs to know your name by the 2nd week.
Great teacher. One of the best I've had. Spend lots of time doing extra problems to get fast. She gives good feedback and takes the time to know you by first name. She is really good at working through examples, and explaining everything as she goes. Ask as many questions as you have.
The best thing about her is she never belittles anyone for asking questions. She is great.
Dr. Aksu is an amazing professor. She will go out of her way to know your name and will even reach out to you, not many professors would do that. Her lectures are very clear and tells you what to expect. Without a doubt, one of the best professors and maybe the best professor I've ever had.
She is amazing. Her lectures are very understandable and she tells you what to expect. She is surely a great teacher, and she also takes out time to learn everyone's name.
She is extremely detail oriented, great handwriting, gives hand outs to help you understand subject being discussed. Will answer all questions. Most of lecture is spent doing practice problems in detail and examining different cases for each rule and method. The grading is harsh but it's ECE, that's just how the department grades.
Dr. Aksu is very dedicated and an amazing lecturer. Explain concepts very clearly and does practice problems in class. This class is tough with any professor so be prepared to put in enormous amount of time studying for it, hard but doable. She also tries to help as much as she can outside of class and she takes the time to know everyones name.
Take Aksu for any class you can if you want an intelligent and caring professor. She don't play when it comes to those quiz and exam problems, though. Her questions tend to be quite hard, but she can be a lenient grader.
All that is said about Aksu being a fantastic professor is true. Electronics is no joke, so don't overload yourself when you're taking this course because the concepts are quite difficult to wrap your head around and then apply in the lab (depending on which section is ahead).
One of the best lecturers at UH ,as she takes the time to personally learn everyones names in class. The course is slightly challenging and you do have to put in work, but Aksu makes every topic so much easier to understand. I would not recommend missing class.
Guys I shifted my major because of taking this class. The professors in ece department dont care about their students. They suck. The course itself sucks. Either you get a C- or fail you have only 2 options unless you are extremely intelligent.
Dr. Aksu really knows her stuff and is clear in her teaching style. I am glad I took her class this semester for circuit analysis.
Dr. Aksu is an absolute gem. The best teacher Ive ever had. Circuits is a very challenging course, the material is difficult so it takes time to understand. You really have to work hard for it. Dr. Aksu is always there to help, shes able to help you identify exactly what youre struggling with. Please take her!! Shes the best!
Dr. Aksu is the best professors. She explains everything so well and detailed. The only professor in the ECE department that actually knows how to teach and teaches it well. Although the exams are extremely hard you do have to practice a lot for those exams. That is the only way you will be able to get higher than a C. I recommend her
I love professor Aksu even though she failed me. If you can't keep up with the fast pace of the course then I wish you good luck at the end where the course components are weighted against you. Absolutely do the homeworks with help from a friend and online and study for those tests every day or you won't stand a chance. She's a great person really.
Professor Aksu is one of the kindest people I'v ever met. She will help you in class and replies to her emails very quickly. The class is structured very efficiently. The only problem is we only have one exam, which is worth 50% of our grade. You need to work hard to get an A in this class, even though it's only one credit hour:(. Good luck!
very nice and understanding workload easy. Can tell she cares about us learning. Great at replying to emails.
This was professor Aksus first time teaching ENGI 1331 and she was amazing. She is very good at explaining the material. She cares for her students and is very kind. I made a C because of my own mistakes but I would definitley recommend her for this class. Be ready to put some hours in outside of class. ENGI 1331 (MATLAB) is a very hard course.
CONS: She makes the exams and material a lot harder than they need to be. Goes very fast during lecture. She WILL fail you. PROS: Very accessible outside of class hours which is amazing - definitely above and beyond what I've seen any other ECE professor do at UH. Advice: If she wants students to learn faster, she ought to teach them slower.
If you really want to learn it and have a professor invested in your understanding, you take Aksu. No question.
Professor Aksu is such a great woman. I really enjoy her intro to engineering course. I really feel like this is the first course I'm actually learning in during the pandemic with the whole online learning. She will answer a question plenty of times and make sure you understand. She makes such a comfortable environment to work in. She's great.
Best professor Ive ever taken. Super nice, and makes sure you know whats going on. Provides plenty of office hours and answers every question you have. She genuinely cares that you understand the subjects. Coding is mostly done on MatLab but she goes an extra mile and writes down what goes on behind the scenes for those visual learners.
I took her for Fall 2020, she's very nice and accessible after class. This is the hardest I've ever taken, please go to her office hour for help. The exams were insane because we had to program in 1:20 hour. Tbh, her lectures were boring but did help. Watch Daniel Burleson videos she recommends, solid help. Start on the MA day one to be ahead.
She is a fantastic teacher the good things what people say are true! The group project IMO is unnecessary and alot of work depending on what kind of group u have. If you understand what you're doing on the MA's you'll do fine. Redo the MAs to study for the test that is what is going to save you. zybooks is poo. Final is very difficult,STUDY!!!!
The class was decently challenging but Dr. Aksu made it easier and helped a lot. The grade you get is what you put in so pay attention in class. Practice is similar to exams.
Dr. Aksu is an awesome professor. She is great at explaining how MATLAB works and is constantly making time for office hours and posting extra help videos. DO THE MAs EARLY AND GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. 1331 is tough if you dont have coding experience, so plan to put in a lot of extra work for the grade, definitely practice with MATLAB beforehand
Dr. Aksu is a solid choice for those looking to go into engineering. She is very caring for her students and makes sure that we all understand the material before any exams or assignments. This class helped solidify my choice in what kind of engineering degree I wanted to pursue and Dr. Aksu is very knowledgeable about this field.
She is very knowledgeable and professional. She actually cares about students understanding. But I would not recommend her intro if you are aiming for an A her final test was significantly harder than the other teachers. She used it to curve down the entire class grade.
Dr. Aksu is AMAZING. She knows MatLab very well and teaches in a simple manner so that it is easy for everyone to understand. There are weekly coding assignments that review that week's lecture but they are very resourceful and help you understand the concept. "Pop quizzes" aren't hard she tells you when she's going to give a quiz ahead of time.
Amazing professor who cares deeply about the success of her students and will do everything she can to help you if you go to her.
Dr. Aksu is easily the best ECE professor at UH. She is incredibly caring, and is an astonishingly good lecturer. The class is tough though, she will not have mercy on you on simple mistakes. Tough exams. Do the homeworks, do practice exams, ask questions. Even if I had failed this class, I would've given her 5/5 rating. She is that good.
She is an amazing professor, helps the students in any way possible. Submit assignments on time and do the tests properly and you will surely get an A.
Be ready to do a lot of Mastery assignments (about 10) and a group NAE project for this class. Always use the UTA's for help and don't hesitate to ask questions. You can also use her office hours (about 3 times a week), if you have any questions. Do assignments beforehand and do all the practice question papers before the exams to get an easy A.
TAKE HER! make life easier and learn matlab basics before course!! MAs take forever and cause headaches. She will always help you and was one of the most caring professors I've had! DONT WASTE EXAM TIME TROUBLESHOOTING CODE. GO TO CLASS her lectures will make the MAs doable. DONT wait till weekend to do them. Know the MA & ICPs =Pass the Exams.
Dr. Aksu is a wonderful professor. Highly recommend her for her thorough explanations, she cares for her students.
AWEFULLLLL! DO NOT TAKE HER PLEEEEEEASE ! she is super fast when she covers the material as she asumes that you already know the material and her quizzes are super hard even the stuff that I already know when she goes over them, I feel that they get harder. so PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER!
Very passionate about teaching. I took her for ENGI 1331 without any prior coding experience and still managed to earn an A. But don't get me wrong, what you earn is what you put into, so make sure to do all those that she required. Start early on the MAs, and if you're aiming for the summit, don't be afraid to go all out.
She is very helpful and will explain anything to you as long as you go to her office hours. She is very fast paced but you get the hang of it. The MA's are hard but doable, TA's are very helpful. Heavy workload but 2 hours per week outside of class with a good grade. quizzes are hard to prep you for the final.
Don't get me wrong Prof. Aksu is kind, respectful, and passionate about teaching, my recent semester experience has led me to reconsider taking her classes. Trust me when I say this her teaching style and explanations are not the best. She is fast-paced but that is not the issue, the issue is how she explains material Take her at your own risk!
Dont take her for 1331 she isnt the best prof and makes things harder than they should be.
I loved her class! She kept high expectations and pushed us. Her classes felt like "actual classes" in the sense that there was a lot of discussion, worksheets, hand outs, and a big group project. While it seemed harder than other ENGI1100 classes, she genuinely prepped me for future coursework in ways I have not seen other profs do before.
I'm almost 100% sure that her 5/5 rating is based completely on her personality (extremely nice person). However, she makes the material unnecessarily difficult. I respect Dr. Aksu, but she made the class needlessly stressful, which it shouldn't have been. I'd suggest trying another professor if you want to grasp the material better.
I did love going to her class but sometimes i felt like she was going too fast in class. Her lecture materials are really good and her assignments were easy to do if you pay attention to her lectures. She is also really helpful during her office hours.
Her class is definitely hard but as an engineering major I'm really grateful for it. coding definitely isn't my fav thing to do so i was nervous about this class but honestly the MA's, projects, and homeworks were all manageable in the end (TA office hours are a must). Exams were okay but the final was crazy difficult for no reason.
I found the material in this class to be very similar to what I learned in high school. However, the instructor's teaching style made it much more difficult. If you haven't taken Calculus 1 and Physics 1 (AP or IB) in high school, take this class at your own risk. In the first week, we were already tackling OPTIMIZATION problems.
Overall, Aksu for Intro to Engineering was an eye-opener to what is to come as an engineer. However, it was very pleasing and very worthwhile along the way, especially with the credit she gives in the end if you worked your hardest and use all the opportunities to your advantage, if you are someone who wants the easy way don't take Pr. Aksu......
Overall, to have taken aksu once again from 1100 to 1331 you would think would be crazy, but this class was way easier then her intro. Coding is something I never knew and now after taking her class I have not only enjoyed MATLAB but am willing to learn the other programs of coding language! Definetly was not easy class but fun along the way!!
Good prof, lots of work for a 1 credit hour class though. NAE project with a group presented at end of year. She teaches well. STUDY WELL for the problem solving since that's the final. 1 exam on excel towards the beginning. 1 exam (final) with only problem solving, optimization, and statistics. small quizzes after each major topic.
Aksu's personality is 10/10 and her teaching style is adaptive to her student's needs. She has a reputation for being harder than the other instructors and I would agree that she pushes students to work hard and be prepared to ace all your classes to come. She provides bountiful information and I'm taking her again even if her grading was slow.
Aksu is great at teaching students effectively in a fun way whilst always encouraging students and pushing them to succeed. Her class is challenging, with quizzes, problem-solving, and a big group project, but she provides plenty of resources and genuinely prepares you for future courses. Such a fun professor - 10/10, would take again.
Dr. Aksu was a tough but great teacher for ENGI1100. Although her class might be a little harder than the other ENGI1100 classes, I learned a lot and she cares a lot about her students. Her office hours are really helpful and she genuinely wants her students to succeed. Will be taking her next semester for ENGI1331
Dr. Aksu is a caring teacher, she tries her best to bend to the class's preferences (For us, she moved tests back to make sure we were prepared). Her lectures are very clear to understand, there's no shame if you ask questions. Her 'Mastery assignments (MAs)' can get difficult, but she provides things to help. Her tests reflect MAs very well.
She was amazing. If you go to lectures and pay attention this class will be easy. The excel is the hardest part because you need to memorize some excel “formulas” but she is very helpful. She once stayed on call till 11:30 PM to help me get a poster ready to present at an Honors only event that she got me into. Take her if you can.
Great Professor, absolutely would recommend her again and again, very accessible and always willing to help.
I love Dr. Aksu and her teaching, so much so that I'm considering taking a circuitry class with her that isn't even in my plan. I don't recall needing to review lecture material often as we did examples in class. MAs were review. I worked on an honors project with her. Super helpful, considerate, and encouraging. She loves helping others succeed.
Dr. Aksu is super caring and willing to help students with any questions inside/outside of class. Her lectures are pretty interesting and she did a great job at preparing us for future engineering courses. Her exams were simple and straightforward. Easy to maintain an A by just showing up to class and doing all the assignments.
Dr Aksu was great, not just teaching wise but she will let you know a lot about yourself if you really want to do engineering and if it's right for you, she always makes an effort to help her students she will take care of you as long as you put in the work. Engineering is a tough road and she will prepare you for what is to come.
Aksu is a great professor with so much heart put into her lessons. Programming can be challenging, and this class goes over a lot of material. But I learned so much and I overall enjoyed it. I agree with so many of the other reviews praising her great teaching. I took Aksu for both intro courses because there was no need to switch.
Her reviews speak for themselves, shes great. this is an intro coding course, but ur expected to pick up on things very quickly. Semester long group project but its chill. expect tests to be ~20% harder than the MAs(hw). if u need help, ask her. attendance is pretty much required(irl attendance and assignments).
I took Professor Aksu for Introduction to Engineering, and I loved having her. There was a semester long group project, tests, and assignments. Her lectures are really good, and she prepares you really well for tests and assignments.
Amazing professor, very clear lectures and funny at times. Homework, quizzes, and tests were always communicated about beforehand and she helped the class prep very well imo.
Professor Aksu is one of the best professors you can sign up for. She wants you to succeed in the class and the given printouts are a good resource. Take advantage of every resource that the class offers and you will be fine.
Professor cares about students and makes sure you are equipped to succeed in your prospective careers. Useful skills and helps prepare students for engineering problems. Great class structure and helps you work with others.
Prof. Aksu is so amazing! She taught me my Intro to Engineering and it was my favorite class because of her, she's very passionate about Engineering and genuinely cares for each and every one of her students, she defineltymotivated me tocontine in Electrical Engineering because she got all her degrees in Electrical and i must say TAKE HER!!!
Professor Aksu is genuinely the best professor I've had so far here. She is patient, and she truly cares about making you succeed in her class.
She is a very nice and caring professor, but she requires far too much work from the 1 credit hour ENGI 1100 class. Highly recommend finding someone easier. Every assignment was also far too rigorously graded. If you have the correct answer and show your work, but it doesn't fit her exact template/formula, you will lose many points.
Dr.Aksu is an amazing professor. Despite me doing very poor in her class because of own studying habits, she passed me and I am very grateful for her kindness and support. 10/10
