Professor Singh's class is a slog. Team assignments are excel heavy, and the professor is incredibly vague in his instructions. Class is just him reading slides off a PowerPoint, hardly any teaching is supplementary to assignments. Attendance is mandatory rotating weekly between in person and on teams. He also never seems to give 100s.
Approaching him for help or providing feedback turned out to be a daunting task, as he often responded with frustration rather than assistance. The difficulty of his quizzes left me feeling unprepared and frustrated, and his slides were of little help in understanding the material. Additionally, the grading criteria seemed like a mystery. No As
Professor Gulshan give a lot of bonus points to the students. He gives alot of Homework, Assignment, Projects, Quizzes but there is no test for this class. Get ready to do alot of work from first week of the class. He does not provide any help you are on your own. ONLY TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN TAKE THE WORK LOAD OF THE CLASS. ALSO HE IS A NEW TEACHER.
This class is very group project heavy. About half of the assignments are group work. It will not be difficult if you have a good team. Some of the assignments have vague instructions. This course is excel heavy just be prepared. If you complete all the extra credit, show up to class, and do the work you should get an A.
He is very intelligent and doesn't explain his requirements well. Guess he thinks we know everything he does. Asks a ton of questions during every lecture.
Must know Excel/Be able to learn quickly. Lectures are until exactly the end of class. Attendance is mandatory. Bonus points and extra credit are good to do to for your grade to go higher quickly. You will most likely end up teaching yourself, but the group and individual assignments are not too bad. Try to stay ahead with the assignments.
The assignments were not too difficult. Would have preferred to take quiz (there was only 1) online and the lectures went all the way until 8:30 most days (which is difficult when you are driving for 45 minutes to get home and work full time). Overall, he is a good teacher and gives lots of opportunities for extra credit.
This class is very group project heavy. About half of the assignments are group work. It will not be difficult if you have a good team. there is one quiz which is 200 points and no other tests
Downfall of this class, he teaches to 8:30PM. Very Excel heavy, so be ready. Group project heavy, its not bad long as your team does the work before the actual due date. Only one quiz worth 200 but its taken online IN PERSON. Lots of Extra credit points though.
would not take again, did not understand and instructions were not clear.
Professor Gulshan is trying his best to explain the theory but still I had a hard time understanding and specially assignment instructions. 200 points worth quiz end of the semester, no exams. few group assignments. As long as you have a good group you can do well. this is excel base, so come with basics.
I took this class and it was hard but, it's manageable. All classes shouldn't be easy and you do have to practice outside of class. He does keep you the whole time in class and he is big on excel so be ready. He does give plenty of of options for extra credit and its very much appreciated. The ease of the group project depends on the group you get
While he seems like a great person and tries hard. I do not think he is a good teacher. When asked about assignment details his response is "This is a 4000 level class, figure it out" is rude and not informative. It is rare to get a 100 on something even if you do everything required of you. I hope he improves over time.
Professor Singh was great! I hope more professors are like him. No joke. Just participate and do your assignments, and you will be OK.
Professor Singh is an interesting professor. He gives a decent amount of assignments and is a fairly good lecturer. My main issue with the class was that he very rarely gives out 100s for assignments. The grading is tough and you do have to display proficency with excel and regressions, but I felt that he wanted students to succed.
Professor Singh teaches a difficult class and can sometimes give unclear instructions. The course is very excel heavy which can be difficult to understand at first, but its worth it. Lots of group work and attendance is mandatory even when class is online.
The class can be difficult if you do not pay attention in class and follow along with the lectures. The assignments do take work and definitely ask questions if you do not understand something. If you do the assignments and stay on top of the projects, you will do just fine in the class. Take advantage of extra credit opportunities.
Very straightforward, formal professor that enforces deadlines and rules for the class setting, but he does have a sense of humor and makes the lecture fun. This course involves a considerable amount of Excel and group work for projects and assignments.
This class was excel heavy and had a lot of group projects/assignments. He is willing to help outside of class and respond to emails in a timely manner. Make sure to pay attention in class and have a good group, if you do that then you should be fine in the class.
The class is very informative. A lot of value especially when he invites successful guest speakers to speak to the class. Be prepared to adapt to assignments that involve teams.
This professor was ok, some of his assignments weren't too clear but weren't too tough either.
The professor was fair in grading but a bit hard to understand at times during teaching.
This class can be difficult, but as long as you do your assignments, attend class and do the extra credit you should be fine. It is excel heavy. Assignments aren't clear, you have to use your "creativity". Group project heavy, it can be easy if you get a good team, you can't choose your team by the way. One quiz worth 200pts.
this class was good overall, the professor does take attendance and wont allow late work.
Professor Gulshan Singh does an excellent job of explaining complex topics in a way that's easy to understand, which helped me grasp the material in SCLT 3480. They foster a supportive classroom environment, encouraging questions and discussions. Their enthusiasm for the subject makes the class both informative and enjoyable.
Strict grader that will give grades based on creativity in each assignment and just following the rubric instructions will not result in a perfect score being given out. There is also a quiz worth 20% of the grade. Otherwise, it is simple to get a good score in the class if you work well in groups and decide to do the extra credit.
Refuses to give anyone 100s, so go in expecting a maximum grade of 90. Other than that, he is a cool guy, but that 10 point overall penalty is heavy.
Dr. Singh expects a lot from his students, and his assignments require effort and dedication. Attendance is mandatory, and he lectures for the full class time. He provides reading materials on Canvas and offers extra credit opportunities. Professor Singh is accommodating and willing to help students who show an interest in learning.
Very tough grader
A's on assignments are rare, and feedback is limited. Despite tough grading I learned a lot during the course.
1. Sometimes the instruction is unclear 2. Excel heavy but it is for your own good. You get to learn a lot from it.
Not really a bad professor. He just needs to be a little more helpful to his students but it is easy to succeed in his class.
Tough grader and excel heavy. You learn a lot from him but you basically got to teach yourself for the excel part.
team projects are most of the grades
You have to take this course seriously and know how to be a part of a team. Everything taught in this class will be used for our future careers. Overall great professor!
This course is very Excel-heavy and fast-paced. The professor moves fast through complex topics. Missing one class will set you behind and catching up can be very difficult. I wouldn't 100% blame this on the professor because it is a heavily loaded course. Be ready to work!
His assignment instructions are very vague, and you need to be creative with your assignment creation. Some online lectures during the semester. But quizzes and presentations of group projects are in class only.
Professor Gulshan Singh is not the type of professor to give out A's in his course. So if you have an A in his course consider yourself very lucky. Second Professor Gulshan although the material can be confusing will make genuine effort to make sure students understand at the very least the fundamentals in what he is talking about. He is also funny
Get ready to do regression analysis in excel and lots of group assignments. He brings guest speakers in class so we can hear their experience in quality. Do the extra credit just do it!
He's a good professor who doesn't take nonsense. He is a tough grader but it prepares you for the real world. Would definitely take again.
He randomly calls on students during online lectures to see if they listen actively and absorb the content. [IF] the class is 5 hours, expect to sit there for 300 minutes. Pros: Excell experience Gives easy A's for the effort Gives industry tips and career advice Cons: Too many students in the class.
Doctor Singh is a very highly accomplished Professor who has a lot of data analysis and quality systems experience in his background. The instructions can be quite vague on all the assignments / projects but the professor suggests that this is to "boost creativity", whereas a clear cut set of instructions makes it to simple and easy.
Needs to work on giving more feedback, Overall liked him and the class was not too difficult
The class was overall very good; there was a lot of group and Excel work. I would recommend doing the majority of the extra credit assignments as they help immensely, since he rarely gives 100s.
Many assignments are with a team. Lectures last for the full class time. Many opportunities for extra credit. Instructions for assignments are vague.
The class is fairly straightforward as long as you pay attention to the in person lectures.
good proffessor
Not too organized, lots of homework and everything isn't too clear. He's a good caring guy.
Although the directions can be unclear at times, Professor Singh is a great professor who cares about teaching his students what is needed in their career. He gives plenty of extra credit and his group assignments do a lot to teach you the subjects and to prepare you to work with others in the future.
This is a very by the book professor. Attendance matters if your more than 15 minutes late your absent. He uses the entire class time eve
SCLT 4380 is an easy course that is just a review of all you have learned up until this point with a basic excel component comparable to the first month of an intro stats course. This professor is a pain to deal and the only problem I had with the course. He gets sidetracked, and establishes an adversarial relationship with the students early on.
His lectures are okay, but he could have spoken louder when teaching. Group projects require significant effort and time, and he gives extra credit but is a tough grader without feedback. This is his second semester of teaching, so there are many things that he will need more time to adapt and make changes.
The professor is solid but his lectures are pretty much useless so you might as well study the slides yourself. His projects for both group and individual are not bad its just that he doesn't give too much information about them so you're kinda on yourself on them.
Gulshan Singh is man full of personality, very blunt and as well knowledgeable about his course material. Downside of this class was the group project work was too much in my opinion constantly getting in contact with other people is always a pain. Otherwise the class was very informative and great guest speakers from the industry.
A lot of homework and reading, so make sure you know how to get through them!
This was my most complicated SCLT class, because some of the individual assignments had unclear instructions. Attendance is important and being on time even if it's online. Most of it is group projects, so being in a good group is important. One quiz worth 200 pts over important material throughout the semester. Just pay attentions and do your work
Easy Class if you know how to use Excel ( Regression & UCL/LCL )
In this class, be prepared to study and review material. Pay attention to class and all of the Excel lectures at the beginning of the semester. Research new ways to analyze data because it shows innovation. Studying for the quiz could be a bit intimidating. Overall, he was a good professor, and I can say I've learned what quality is.
- Team project: If you are lucky, you get a good team, but you are not doing it alone. - Assignments: He cares about the format and professional layouts - Time: Try not to do things too close to deadlines because the HW and team projects are long.
In this course with Professor Singh is an overall 6/10. When it comes to the rubric/assignments, he is very particular and heavily follows the rubric of assignments, so hit every point exactly and go a little bit above the bar and you will get a reasonable grade. The projects are an overall 7/10 and the tests are an overall 6/10 (difficulty).
Informative, concis, and challenges you for what's too come in the real world.
Informative, concise, and to the point of what to expect in order to set foot in the workforce.
Informative, concise, prepares you for the real world.
The professor demonstrates strong professional abilities and a teaching style that prepares us for the workplace. His heavy grading, while challenging, ensures we meet industry standards. He emphasizes proper formatting and attention to detail, which reflect employer expectations and equip us with essential skills for our careers.
Very approachable and helpful during office hours. Clear grading criteria; I appreciated the feedback on assignments. Assignments are relevant and enhance learning.
Professor Singh runs a tight ship in a technical course with somewhat difficult material. He is very particular about how assignments are submitted and sometimes his expectations are not clear. However he is intelligent and capable, and the material is extremely useful. He has been responsive to student requests and clarifications as well.
This professor is awesome, gets you actually prepared for real life.
Interesting guy but is not an effective instructor. He's vague about what he wants from his assignments. Extra credit is not even worth doing because it is worth so little and the overall cost is too much.
He was professional and fair. I did not do great, but that was from my own doing. He provided every opportunity.
Professor Singh has a sense of humor and his class is very interesting. These are lots of group projects to run which is fun and exercise our collaboration ability.
Average difficulty class. Brings guest speakers with real-world experience.
Dr. Singh is a very good professor overall. Not the easiest class but if you do your work, you will be fine.
Prof was good but some directions were very vague. Has good guest speakers and honestly has a ton of passion for the subject.
His classes are lecture heavy, meaning that you will be reading power points. His lectures aren't recorded so it may be hard to remember somethings he mentions in class. He grades based on "Creativity" sometimes. Key to success: Format every paper, make presentations look pretty. Easy to not know what you're oing in clas
Get ready to be lost if you aren't hyper focused. Class is PPT focused. Key to success: Format papers and make every assignment look pretty. He grades based on creativity. He is lenient on grading but he doesn't provide a rubric so it may be confusing why you got a low grade sometimes
I simply do not recommend taking this class.
The professor has vague grading criteria, and the TA grades very harshly
Attendance is mandatory, also lectures are not recorded so take notes!!
-The assignments are graded with feedback being given vaguely -Assignments get regraded after the initial grade
-Grades Vaguely -Grades change after initial grade
-Tough Class
The professor didn't cover the material well or explain the paper submission format, causing me to lose points. He also gave two quizzes with very short time limits— the last one was only 15 minutes for 22 questions, including 4-5 essay questions. Most students couldn't finish due to the time constraint.
Professor Gulshan is easy going and caring of student. Be ready to do the group project which is very important for this course. Good course for supply chain major
Tough grader, be prepared to follow all the instructions to a T.
Professor Gulshan Singh was okay overall, but there were some areas where the experience could have been improved. One major downside was the lack of clear instructions for both homework and the group project. It was often unclear what exactly was expected, which led to confusion and extra effort trying to figure things out on our own.
Honestly, he wasn't bad after the first two weeks, it takes some time to understand his requirements for his homework. I would suggest talking to people who took his class and having them give you advice on how to navigate the assignments. He's a tough grader but for good reason. It did suck that our extra credit opportunity was taken away though.
Dr. Singh is a great professor. He is accessible outside of class and is a good resource in our field. His grading criteria is not what I was used to, but in the end it made me a better writer and prepared me for the real world. As long as you check Canvas everyday, there will be no issues with any assignments!
Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Formatting requirement for individual assignments was not clear so that's where most of the points were lost. Quizzes are timed but not enough time is given for the amount of questions.
Lots of extra credit available. Formatting requirement was not clear. 2 group projects weren't too difficult if you got a good group. Quizzes were timed but not enough time for the amount of questions.
Profesor wants students to be engaged
Grading was very tough and specific by the TA. Group projects were good. Attendance was mandatory and you have to keep your camera on for the online classes.
It's both online and in person class. Attendance is important, its graded. There are two main group project. I wish professor can give us more time to take the quiz. TA grades the assignment........grading hard. But its not very difficult class, complete every assignment and you should be fine.
He is a strict grader and deducts points for formatting issues on assignments, but doesn't clearly explain his expectations, telling students to "do whatever you think is best." My grade stayed at a 77 for most of the semester, but fortunately, he offers extra credit. Overall, this has been my least favorite class during my time at UH. Good luck!
Just be prepared to work and It's not an easy A.
This class was a hybrid class with some weeks online and some weeks in person. There were quite a few guest speakers however it was mostly the professor lecturing on the projector. There is a group project at the end of the semester, and a couple of quizzes throughout the semester.
Overall, the class was interesting, and I learned a lot. However, the grading criteria are a little difficult, so ask lots of questions after the lectures! Also, cross your fingers that you get a good group for group projects, as this is the majority of the class.
The class is interesting; however, the lack of transparency in explaining his grading expectations was problematic.
Overall, this course was full of interesting material for our future jobs. However, the grading criteria was unclear, making assignments harder to understand. Ask the TA to go into depth about what he is looking for when grading assignments he will let you know. Expect 3 quizzes, weekly hw, and group projects. Having a good team matters.
This professor was very insightful when it comes to knowledge of Quality Systems, but his overall approach to seniors was ludicrous. His expectation was you're a mind reader, no clear guidelines for the class just go with the flow.
He is a good teacher whenever we discussed questions related to the assignments, but didn't clarify the formatting well. The grading doesn't make sense. It's best to get involved with your team assigned and collaborate with one another.
Avoid him if possible; his grading is awful, with no clear rubric and barely any time to complete the quizzes.
Professor Gulshan is definitely a tough professor but he genuinely cares for his students. There are a lot of assignments and the rubric for it isn't clear which makes it difficult to get a perfect score BUT I do believe that he is trying to prepare you for the future. I wish I had taken him earlier rather than in my last semseter of school.
If you're down to be confused when it comes to grading criteria and love getting points off for perfect formatting because it did not "surprise" him then this class is for you. Have questions and love getting unclear answers then this class is also for you. Very short timed quizzes.
Very confusing grader, nothing in this class is clear in terms of direction.
Few assignments so it's important that you do them all to get the best grade. most important thing is to understand the excel skills (regression, ect) early on bc it will only build from there. Make sure you understand DOE as soon as he teaches it, because it is not in the book and the ppt is vague, ask questions if you need to. participation req.
Perfectly normal professor, would take again. His TA never gave very clear assignment rubrics, but if you do good work you'll get a good grade.
Ask a lot of questions, challenge him on why certain things are what they are. Make sure that everyone is on the same page with grading guidelines.
Professor Singh cares about his students. Though his grading can be tough and sometimes not very clear grading criteria, he does help go over things when asked.
This prof was a difficult grader, providing no clear rubric and offering vague assignment descriptions. I had to rigorously defend missed points and advocate for grades I deserved by referencing the syllabus and assignment guidelines. Persistence and meticulous attention to detail were essential to navigate their strict grading approach.
The professor demonstrated an in-depth understanding of the subject that he teaches, but hard on gradin. overall, good proffessor
This class was very difficult only because of the grading. There is no rubric and he will deduct a few points off with no explanation yet comment "Excellent work!".
Overall, the class was interesting, and I learned a lot. However, the grading criteria are a little difficult, so ask lots of questions after the lectures! Also, cross your fingers that you get a good group for group projects, as this is the majority of the class.
The grading criteria was hard to grasp in the beginning, once you understand it, you will get a good grade. overall a good course, and interesting perspective.
The professor kept me engaged and gave me opportunities to be the best student possible in this course. He kept lectures entertaining and fun.
The class was hard to navigate a bit on assignments because of no clear expectations on grading, but once understand what he's looking for you get a better idea and grade.
Grading was very tough because he wants it to be specifically tailored ro the instructions. Group activities were good.
Not clear on grading. Attendance is mandatory. He's really funny but it was a pretty tough class because he never says what he takes off points for.
He expects you to come to class, already having read the chapters that are going to be taught in that class. Coursework is manageable and the grading is strict as this is a level 4000 course.
Be prepared
A little confusing on how he wants certain assignments done, format is very important.
He brought a lot of speakers to class and I enjoyed the presentations. I can tell the professor really cared about prepping us for the real world and jobs after we graduate. There were a lot of group projects so be prepared for that. Otherwise it was a cool class.
Writing format is really important, beware
No clear about expectations for papers.
The content is not hard, and the professor is good at replying to the emails and messages. If only the professor had given more time for quizzes that would have been better. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.
Was very worried about this class but halfway through it realized that it's not that bad. If you do what's assigned you'll make a decent grade like a B+. Has a lot of knowledge that he's ready to share but he can be off putting and difficult like with grading, but if you participate as expected and learn then you'll be good.
This class may seem confusing when you first started, but as long as you communicate with the professor, you should be good. It is hard to get an A, but as long as you do the work, you'll get at least a B for this class. Formatting is important, but overall not too hard
Prof. Singh is knowledgeable. Grading is strict, & it may take some time to understand exactly what they are looking for. But, once you grasp their expectations, completing assignments becomes much more manageable. Grp projects are mandatory, & despite my group's lack of communication, I used the material taught to deliver an exceptional project.
This professor is incredibly understanding and dedicated. He focused on ensuring that every student grasped the material without overwhelming us. His engaging class emphasized collaborative learning through group projects that prepared us for real-world scenarios. His passion for teaching made a lasting impact on my educational experience.
Very condescending and a difficult grader
Nice Professor, had a few quizzes and a few team projects. The only complain I would have would regard grading as it was confusing to turn in what was expected as he provided no examples and his (TA) would grade our assignments and points would get deducted without understanding why we got points taken away.
Professor Singh is very engaged during his lectures and really wants students to learn and grasp the information. There is a lot of group work and the opportunity for extra credit. The only thing I will say is that his TA grades our assignments and is tough on the grading. We would lose points on assignments and the feedback was not sufficient.
His instructions are unclear for assignments but he is very knowledgeable.
Grading is unexpected and strict sometime. Make sure to study well for the quizzes. Lectures are informative and the professor is eager for your participation.
His TA's are the ones that grade you over the course, btw they're awful. Its very difficult to understand professor singh his accent is very strong but hes pretty nice. Just be mindful about the TA's! Literally can jeopordize your grade.
At first, the projects for the class seem difficult, but after the second or third one, you will understand what the professor is looking for, and it is not that bad. There are a lot of group projects and the professor is eager for the students to participate in class. If you pay attention and turn everything in, you can easily make at least a B.
Lectures are fun
