She is the worst chemistry teacher ever! She doesnt like to answer too many students questions. And she has a terrible accent.
bad acsent u would never know what to expect from her in class. she goes over lecture so fast. I never learned anything from her
She is nice and that is it. Forget extra points. If you like teaching yourself take this class.
She is nice but you have to like chemistry before taking her class or else you will be lost. Her interest in chemistry is very high so you have to have the same degree of interest or higher because her lectures are quick and precise. She is a good preparation for medical majors as to what is in the future for them.
She changes her mind about the material between teaching it and grading your test, she is rude to students with questions and she is refuses to help students understand labs. NEVER TAKE AN OZKAN CLASS UNLESS YOU MUST!
this woman is a royal pain in your...she has a tendency to tell the students that they're not reading the materials, even though they could read it 4 hours a day, like i was, and when you still don't get it, she tells you to read it more...she refuses to show you where equations apply so that you can understand what kinds of problems they go to, and she refuses to show you what the symbols in chem121 mean when you get confused, all because you supposedly don't read it enough.....
ugh, expect the unexpected if you are taking this class. if you want to learn: teach yourself or have someone else teach you. it's difficult to understand her because of her accent. she goes over her lecture as fast as a crash course.
had a bad expirence (all of the people posting on this were from one class!) Take another prof. She is not very nice at all.
Very nice woman, but she speaks in somewhat broken English and does not have very organized lectures. Love her as a person, but not as a professor. Had to learn solely from the book (which I usually do anyway, so i got an A). Grades fairly and is approachable.
Very hard professor. Lectures are unclear and her accent makes things difficult to understand as well. She makes alot of mathematical errors and the students usually catch them but if you don't know anything about chem and you write it down it makes things confusing when they do get corrected. Don't take this instructor.
her accent may cause other ppl to midunderstand her lectures or even not understand her at all.she does offer weekend lectures for free which is rare for most teachers.chemistry is very hard in general so you can't expect her to teach perfectly. does have room for improvement and does do mathematical errors but they are minor
Horrible teacher. Very rude as a person. NEVER TAKE HER CLASS. You will never learn anything. She also motivate students to drop her class because they are not prepared or aren't studying enough. I changed to Prof. Hammond. He is hard, but I learned more. I belive Ozkan shouldn't be working at CCSN. She doesn't know math and Chemistry.
Her accent, mannerisms, and attitude are much to be desired. Her quizzes and exams are nothing like her notes so most students do not do well. She is rude and very unhelpful. The class is hard enough without having a professor like Gunay teaching it. Avoid her like the plague!
Ozkan is not actually a terrible teacher as many people think. It's just that chemistry is a difficult subject and no matter how good she explains concepts, most of these are new to the students. It is on the student's efforts whether to get an A or F in her class. Her tests are tricky but as long as you understand the materials, you're good.
I feel like one of the few people who liked this teacher. I started off on the wrong foot in her class, I got a 50%.I started doing all of the questions in the back of each chapter, and I passed with a B+. She expects you to listen, read your book and work the problems in the back. Do that, and you will do fine. This is NOT an easy class.
i am sure she is VERY INTELLIGENT.. but you have to remember, very smart people do NOT know how to teach sometimes. she has no passion for this subject, unroganized and very hard to understand at times. If this is your first time or its been awhile since you have studied any chemistry, i would not recommend you to take HER class. I notice that she
Very COLD- cannot approach. Picks favorties. Offers no work sheets, and will not go over H.W. in class. If we ask questions (can't understand her anyway) she says... we have to move on. REALLY the biggest B- I- T- C- H I have ever had. I have 5 yrs post ed. just taking class for work.
blah i dont like her way of teaching and i would say if the class was here, MORE than half would agree.. she has her favorites ill agree.. everything negative said about her i must AGREE! she needs to take her time, its not all about how many chapts you go thru but MORE IMPORTANT if the CLASS UNDERSTANDS fully
shes is really confusing. if u did ask her quesions she will confuse u even more, i ended up dropping this class caz it was so hard, i really dont recomment this teacher to anyone who does not have 5 hrs to study every day just fot this paticular class
her quizes, very hard. it discourages you when you get 5/10. she skips steps while writing problem on board. she is not very approachable, she picks out her favorite students. If you need it- take it, but just make sure you hire a tutor or prepare yourself ALOT because she doesnt explain well = ) enjoy
She doesn't know anything about O'chem. Her lecture is waste of time and her tests and quizzes are really really hard. She will give you some questions in exam that she didn't cover in the class. Her accent is really bad.She is very picky about grades and doesn't give any partial credit at all.If you care about about your GPA don't ever take her for
Pathetic... can't teach at all! I went to her office so many times for help. She told me to drop it and take it over again. Who says that? She does not know how to teach at all!
She is very kind and helpful. Her method of teaching is clear and well-prepared. Although Chem 241 is hard, I feel confident when taking this course with her.
Dr. Ozkan is just getting bad feedback because O chem is hard in general it is not her. Just be prepared to read the book several times and go over the problems in the back several times and not rely as much on her notes. She is a fair grader and just seems hard if you are used to Collins handing you your A on a silver platter.
She was a good teacher for O chem class, very helpful. Evenif the class was hard, she tried to help us as much as she could and gave us some extra credits. Her exam is not too hard if you study ( you can drop the lowest one). I got an A for this class
OChem is definitely a hard class. I had a difficult time with Professor Ozkan but it got easier as I got used to her style. Her lectures are not very well structured. Tests weren't too bad given the material. She does give partial credit. The biggest problem is she seems to think that she can explain something once and her students will get it.
Really tough professor.
I had her for both lab and lecture. she does have an accent but she does write everything down which i like. i don't like that her testing style isnt consistent. she is helpful and approachable but i have a hard time conprehending most of the material she teaches. labs are easy but exercises are hard and she doesnt offer much assistance on it.
I had her for both lecture and lab. First of all, Chem111 is not an easy class. It's totally different from Chem110. She can be confusing sometimes, but overall she was good. She is willing to help if you approach her. She gives you partial credit on labs, quizzes and exams. She is not a hard grader.
Dr. Ozkan is there to help but overall she is not a good professor when it comes down to teaching this sbject, yes it is a hard subject but you are better off dealing with Dr. Chassion or Dr. Hammond. Dr. Ozkan would rather rush through the Chapter then to make sure the students understand the material. Poor Professor. :-(
She's a very good professor for those that can click with her teaching style, very helpful, gives plenty of EC, and will work you through problems. Lectures can be unclear and all over the place (she covers too many unimportant exceptions) but the book is amazing and will complete your knowledge (beware if you're uneasy about book learning)
i took her online food chem class i was very excited untill i read the sylabus and found out that you CAN NOT work with anyone on the labs. you can ask her questions if you want the answer of go read it again.... very frustrating won't help with questions about the labs or homework just states that the infromation is on line and go find it.
Might as well teach yourself from the book! Read it word for word and take notes! Also do all the practice problems at the end of the chapters. Lecture is not helpful and I can't learn anything because she goes so quickly and expects you to know what she's talking about when she says it ONCE! Her teaching = putting examples on the board! THE END
This class is hard. But I love her! As long as you listen to her lectures and take good notes, you"ll be fine. She's very nice, always willing to answer your questions. You really have to put an effort in this class.
I hadn't taken a college level science class before and barely made it through high school science. I really enjoyed being in Ms. Ozkan's classroom. If you take her class, don't plan to slack off... she's a very good science teacher and will work you. Thanks Ms. Ozkan!
she spends a big portion of class talking about stuff we dont need to know therefore i would prefer you to just read the book, all the things you need to know is from there. exams info is in the book.shes annoying sometimes& gets mad if you write while shes talking-she wants you to take notes when she writes on the board only.
This class is far from easy. I took Food Chem thinking it would be a breeze. Although I am pulling a good grade, it doesn't come without effort. She is very difficult to understand, but does offer help (although her answers are ambiguous). The labs are fairly easy but the tests are hard. Make sure you study hard.
This professor is an honest nightmare. I often take classes online and NEVER have gotten NO feedback from a professor. The assignment due date frequently change refuses to give full credit regardless will not say why. does not give correct answers to wrong Qs
i take online class a lot, i did not receive any helpful or constructive feedback from professor, due dates often change after asignment is due. contradicts themselves, it wasnt clear what professor looking for, full credit for assignment not given idk why
Organic Chem it's a HARD/DIFFICULT class, you have to work on problems, mechanism, synthesis. You can NOT expect to pass if you don't show up in class- prof.Ozkan will test/exam on probs similar covered in class. After class go to her office and work on problms, ask qst- VERY helpful! Highly recommend her. Do ALL end chptr pobls- and will get you A!
I took on-line course. 1. 10 experiments: You may feel tired of finish it but it was fun-_-' It is each to get 90% of grade each. 2. 3 Exams & 5 hoomework(tests): Not that hard if you study about 3-10 hours each. I got B+ because of stupid mistake on exam. She gives over 30 issues for research paper. You can choose any of them. I helped me alot.
not easy. if your taking a more advanced chem class after 121 i would recommend because you will learn a lot. if you are taking hard classes at the same time as chem 121 with ozkan i would avoid.
This class was such a pain!!! Her test answers are supposedly all available in the chapters, she posts the book, I ended up googling most of the questions, did ok on the tests. Only a few answers are in the chapters. Opportunity for extra credit, but you have to work for it. That's all this class is.. WORK!!! 10 LABS THAT TAKE A WEEK LONG, 5 TESTS
This class was by far the hardest class I've ever had to take. You need to study every single day. However, Dr. Ozkan is probably the first professor I've had that actually cares about her students doing well. Read the book religiously, and do all questions at the end of each chapter and you should do well.
Avoid this professor if possible.
She is a kind and helpful teacher but her lectures are not very clear a lot of the times. She does provide extra credit during class. The book will help you if you are confused on the material. Exams and quizzes are tough so it's vital that you study. I did well in the class but you really have to put in a vast amount of time in studying.
Mrs. Ozkan was very helpful and is there to answer any questions you have. Chem 241 is not an easy class so you have to study a lot in order to pass! She lets you know ahead of time when you will have a quiz. I would take her again.
The worst professor I have ever encountered. Have to teach yourself most of the material from the book. She does not cover everything that is on the test in class. Isn't very helpful, even when you go in for office hour tutoring, doesn't help much. Answers to questions can be vague and unclear.
Ozkan was a great lab teacher! She puts notes on the board for the experiments and helps make things more understandable. Make sure you understand sig figs, bc she gives you partial credit for having the right calculation & right # of sig figs even if your accuracy is off.
If you are coming into chemistry w/o any knowledge of it, do not take her. She makes things harder than is has to be; does not explain very well; messes up her own answers; etc. She's a nice lady, but she changed her rubric and class structure halfway through. If she is your only option and you're already good at chem, it's a pretty okay class.
Already have degrees but needed this class to meet a requirement for another degree. Found her to lack clear communication and to be unclear with her rubric. I also found the class direction to be a little misguided. I had answers on tests, quizzes for which I could provide citations and proof yet her answer is the only one she wants, facts aside.
Personally, this course is a lot easier compare to other 4 credit science classes at UNLV. She reminds me that I pass due date on some assignments, and give me time to make it up. It is time consuming to take this during summer, but it's not that hard. 11 Labs, 4 HWs, 1 research paper, 2 exams, and 1 final. Don't worry about the research paper!!!
Instructions were unclear sometimes but she's good about responding to emails. Labs take time (some take days) but they aren't hard. Homework & quizzes aren't as easy (some answers weren't in the book/lecture). It was tough but pay attention to the assignment calendar & do the extra credit (it's in the lectures) & you'll be fine
Gunay is not great at explaining things so be ready to learn out of the book. She does give extra quizzes to bring up your grade and she is somewhat lenient with grading. Her lectures could be confusing/all over the place for me and I had to get outside help from tutors/other professors. She does want her students to succeed though.
If u want to have nightmares in Chemistry field, take her. Don't be fooled by other good ratings like me. You will definitely regret coz of taking her class as she is so unclear at explaining lectures.
She is the sweetest person ever and cares for her students. However a few of us noticed she would make mistakes in lecture which would confuse me a lot. I'm a slow learner so this class was hard. I would take her again but it was difficult for me to understand the way she taught. Study to make sure you understand the concepts & you should be fine.
She moves at a reasonable pace, and she wants you to look in the textbook for a better understanding of some things. Weekly quizzes, but it helps because you have to study and it will be in your head once you take the exam. Including the final, there are four exams. She is in her office a lot and responds to emails within a day.
Prof. Ozkan is one of the most helpful professors I have experienced. She lectures the entire period, but writes everything on the board & is quite expressive in her mannerism. If she mentions something - its relevant to the quiz/test. She has a ton of office hours - if youre ever confused, go see her and youll walk out with a new understanding.
a final exam. a full research paper. two labs. a full homework assignment. for a single class. in a single week. the final week... not a good look when you're taking more than one class and want to pass.
Best Ochem professor out there. She is strict in lab, but she curves the tests, gives pop quizzes for extra credit, and actually helps students. She is a bit confusing at first and I did have to teach myself, but it was so simple. I got over 100% on all of her tests. By far my fav Chem professor I have ever taken.
she doesnt speak english very well and doesnt grade quizes and test factually, honestly its a miracle that i passed
Professor Ozkan is hands down THE BEST professor I have had as CSN thus far. She truly cares about her students and their success, and does everything she can to be available and give you the best feedback. She has made me like chemistry. On the other hand, you HAVE to study for this class. You will not pass if you don't put in the effort.
When I enrolled in this class I had no other choice, then I came here and got scared with all this comments. Professor Gunay is a very good professor, study and you will be good. LEARN HOW TO STUDY CORRECTLY
this is the worst and hardest class i've ever taken. the syllabus was so confusing for me. even the modules made no sense to me. unless you're a natural born chemist, wouldnt recommend taking this class. Ozkan has you do tons of experiments by yourself, not to mention they are extremely long and very difficult.
I took Prof. Ozkan for OCHEM Lab and I have to say she is the best lab professor. My partner and I asked A LOT of questions and she was always there to answer every single one. I felt confident leaving lab class with the proper knowledge I needed to continue on to 242. I would highly recommend taking her if you really want to have a good experience
There is a lab due weekly and some are done over the span of the week, so check at the beginning of each week, I did the online course. There were a few homework assignments and a few tests. There was a final, but you took it at home. You have to buy a textbook that is only online and is about $70. Do the readings and you should do well on quizzes.
She is very old school : 1 No slides, everything is on the white board notes are all over the place. So pay attention. 2 No, study guide for quizzes or exams 3 Whatever she teaches that day will be different from the exam. So read ahead even tho she says not to read ahead do it anyways. Accent is not bad and a very sweet lady.
I have taken Chemistry classes with Professor Ozkan. A lot of these reviews are not accurate to her teaching style. She writes everything on the board bc she really wants you to pay attention. She has a lot of office hours & will help you with any specific question. Her accent is not bad at all, I don't know why reviews say that. She is the best.
Professor Ozkan is extremely intelligent and caring. That said, it was hard for me to grasp some of the concepts as she grazes past them quickly. Homework through Pearson, as well as the book. I felt as I was unable to ask questions, due to fear of being ridiculed at times. She offers lots of extra time to help out students, so use office hours
Make sure to listen to all of the lectures/power points because she goes through the details thoroughly. I thought the labs were fun, while sometimes difficult I could email/meet with her to ask questions.
Not my favorite class I've taken. About one lab per week. Theres a big paper due towards the end of the semester and a few homework and quizzes due along the way. I felt like I had to teach myself, just due to the nature of an online class, but the professor was good at feedback and answering any questions I had.
Professor Ozkan is very intelligent & very knowledgeable in chemistry; however be prepared to study & study some more! Lectures & note taking is crucial in this course.
Strict grading doesn't point out what's wrong. Lectures are supposed to last 3 hours but her class is only 15-20, therefore necessary information is unattainable. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL, run away.
She has a strong accent and it is very hard to understand her in lectures. She assigns weekly homework that is different from what she teaches in class. I wish she would go over the homework but she only teaches the topic. She is an overall terrible teacher and is very hard to understand. Sweet lady but in the wrong profession.
She's very nice and understanding but the class is extremely difficult. The lectures rarely go over all the homework and can be confusing sometimes. Note-taking and studying is essential. Lectures aren't mandatory but if you don't attend, you'll be completely lost.
I decided to take Chem 103 with Prof. Ozkan and it was one of the most difficult, and frustrating courses I have ever taken... and I have taken AP in high school. She has a hard accent, sometimes doesn't show up to her own office hours, and the class is really test heavy... like 50% of your final grade! She doesn't respond to emails all that well!
She is nice but her class requires a lot of effort. There are about 11 quizzes (2 get dropped). 3 tests, and a final. If you don't LOVE chemistry, save yourself and take another professor.
She does have an accent though that's fine but what' not and her class was supposed to be for three hours but she would finish everything in 20 mins not enough time to understand anything. As if online lab isn't confusing enough with almost a non-existence professor doesn't help. Usually, just attend another professor's lecture to do the lab work.
I was scared to take Prof. Ozkan based on reviews, I'm glad I went through with it, a quiz before every class, labs really organized, her accent is hard at times to understand, but all around a really passionate and sweet professor. Labs are 5 points for quiz and 15 points for lab results/post lab questions. Take her, you won't regret it.
Cons: bad at communication: can't answer questions after multiple clarifications and rephrases. Unclear directions and expectations, confusing labs, class 3x the cost claimed. Lab write ups feel like trick questions. Pros: side, course is clearly laid out in modules from the start of the semester. Don't take this class if you care about your GPA
This was an online class, I never thought that CHEM 107 could be so easy if you read the Lectures and the E-book and follow the directions in all the experiments you will get an A, she also helps by giving extra points for research. I honestly loved this class, Professor Ozkan is amazing. I will definitely take this class again.
worst professor at CSN taking her class was a nightmare after a week I wanted to drop out 6 tests, 15 lab assignments1 essay questions about dimensional analysis submitting pictures of your work on to word document she is critical stuck-up her useless book was $60.00 $30 for supplies $80 for food items she made us pay for own scale
Ms.ozkan is awful, carless, difficult not an easy A class she only cares about online graphs, dimensional analysis, math conversion 15 long and boring labs 6 tests she makes the course harder, no study guide, no notes. most of her questions weren't from the book I still regret taking her. she never helps us & the book was a waste AVOID HER!
AVOID HER! not an easy class, waste of time & money nothing from the book was on the tests & labs she never explained anything I found a different way to solve the math questions she took points off for that she lied about the cost of ingredients she is apathetic& neglectful of her students, stay away if care about your grades
I learned nothing from her, I wasted too much money on her class, the labs were a waste of time, the book did not help on the tests and the essay was pointless, making us do math conversion was worthless I asked her for help, she said just read the book. She does not care about her students. if you care about your GPA avoid her
I reached out to her twice for guidance on uploading work to her awful test, and she replied twice through email with "exam-1 file upload tab". No hello or respect for her student just based laziness. A truly frustrating class and the homework was graded while you performed it. Essentially leaving the learning out. Save yourself
All the positive ratings are lies, most of them are literally opposite to the vast majority saying she is god awful and I wouldn't be surprised if she was the one entering them in herself lol. save your gpa, time, and money.
She is the worst professor I've ever had. At first, I thought it was just me struggling with the class but coming here to see all the bad reviews I guess not. Her class is time-consuming and has quizzes each week which I don't really mind. She is nice and responds to emails but the class is just horrible. Her exams are what brought my grade down.
Worst professor ever! Do not take her. Her tests are horrible! She should have some type of study guide to better prepare students for the tests so they know what to expect. She uses webcam and lockdown browser. Her homework is time consuming. Overall work class I have had at CSN. SAVE YOURSELF!!!
Worst professor ever, she'll make you do useless assignments and labs unrelated to Food chemistry. Like she's teaching us dumb topics and makes us buy our own lab equipment/food every darn week! She is a menace to society! Please do not take her, save yourself gas, money, time, she's an evil professor and want you to fail her class. No respect....
I had Professor Ozkan online and whenever I emailed her she always responded very rudely. The course and syllabus is very clear but the professor is snippy. Also does not give proper amount of time on quiz and tests and always had me stressed every test.
The class was a bit difficult however if you actually put in some time and understanding of the material you'll be just fine. There are always weekly discussion posts, homework (about 20-50 questions) that is done through Pearson, and a short 10-question quiz on what you learned. All exams are web-cam and lockdown browser.
There are lots of labs, be prepared to buy your materials and obtain a lab kit. All exams for this class require lockdown browser and are timed. I did not feel that there was enough time alotted for some exams, coupled with the lockdown browser, this was quite was stress-inducing.
Please stay away from this lady she does not care about her students she is rude she will not help you she will tell you just read the book she does not tell you what You're doing wrong she lies about the course it is not $50 for material it's about 120 stay away from this professor find another professor please you were warned.
Extremely rude and irresponsible
This class was a real challenge, but with the help of resources like unstuck AI, I was able to stay on top of the material. The labs were tedious, and the exams were stressful with the lockdown browser. Overall, a tough but rewarding experience.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS LADY! She assigns a lot of work and will not help you. She is rude and her English is horrible. I expressed that I was worried about failing the final exam(lockdown browser) and she simply told me to read the entire textbook and past assignments. No study guide at all.
