Challenging exams, but very helpful.
Easy, gives you chances to boost exam grades
Funny guy, makes alot of jokes and likes to waste time. Seems like he dosent understand the material sometimes though. Stumbles alot on what hes going to say but he has a great personality. I'd recommend this if your more independent.
He doesn't seem to understand what he's teaching. He puts a lot of emphasis on seeing the effort so do a lot of work the is just to pad your grade assuming you aren't too smart. He gave me a 20/25 on a test because it didn't look like I put the effort.
his test are very difficult

very good teacher. its easy as long as you show up to class. Just show some effort and you will get a good grade.
i've taken 2 econ classes from Montes & love his teaching. he makes a rather dull subject easier to comprehend. as far as not knowing the material? so wrong. he knows this stuff. both current & history. but you have to work here, its NOT an'easy A'cl
Mr. Montes looks like Howard Stern but is a good Economics teacher. No bull here. I would recommend him. I took Econ 120 with him and got a B, and will take him again for Econ 121. Good Professor.
Montes is a great guy. Like the other ratings, show up to class, show some effort and get your name out there and you are guaranteed a C or better. Doesn't really have a grading system, and he hooks you up big time.
He is a very funny guy. Easy to pass his class but hard to get A because he often assigns group-work quiz and that will affect your grade. He allows us to bring 1-2 page notes to tests but the tests are not easy.
He makes you use carbon paper when you take notes, as if he's gonna read 'em or something...his quizzes are HARD, his drawings are terrible...and he doesn't have THAT much of a sense of humor...come on, it's econ!
he's horrible teacher, he doesn't know what he's talking about, his test was hard, recommand to take another teacher in economics
very cool instructer if you show up for class and try he will give you at least a "c" i took him for econ 120 and 121 and i passed 120 with a "b" and 121 with a "c" even though i failed all his test the test are hard but he will hook you up with mad extra credit.
He gives us tons of extra credit because he knows how hard his tests are. His lectures are useless and unclear, do all the homework and you'll surely get a "B", oh yeah and he looks like a mexican Howard Stern.
He really cares about students and works with you to get a better grade. He gives a lot of opportunities at the begining of the semester to get a better grade. He makes class fun and exciting when he gives his opinion on the subject. Turns a dull subject into a fun one. He gets reaction from student

This guy is great. He was so helpful and did all he could to make our class understand the material. He is by far one of the best professors I've ever had.
he is very very easy. if you get a C on the tests, ypur final grade is a B. he lets you take notes out on the quizzes and test; he also explain the material before the tests. he is very nice teacher
Gus is the man! he is such a rad professor and is one of the only professors ive had that truly cares about his students. if you want a good grade in the class, be sure to speak up in class and let him know you're interested in getting a good grade in the class. totally recomend him!
might be teh best teacher at sac. and ive had 15 different teachers. very very funny and helpful. tests arent too easy but he gives extra credit and helps you out alot, but seriously if you gotta take econ. take it with montes, econ is boring but hes a great teacher
Gus!!! you are the man!!! You are truly a great professor who is able to use real world examples to facilitate the lecture to your students. This professor wants you to learn the stuff, business majors a must!!
lots of extra credit(retaking test, group test)but actual test is really hard. even lecture doesn't cover the test questions. every test gives me stress even though final grade is better than what i got. he lectures about economics but..not clear.spend time with only certain students and talks only things that students are intested on.
BEST DAMN TEACHER EVER!!!!!!
Is not helpful, does not like to answer your questions. Talks too much about irrelevent things in class. Exams are ridiculously hard. Take this at SCC, teachers are way better.
Dropped the class! Totally a waste of time to take this dude. Talks about himself way too much. Took 25 points off my work just because I put the date in the wrong place even though my work was right!
I really liked Gus. He was nice and would let you make up tests if you missed one.
This teacher is really weird. He doesn't really teach about econ. He likes to talk about other things that do not pertain to the book, and he uses the books exams!! Warning: You need to teach yourself in this class
too much quizzes & exam. give u 1 page of notes. however. it's very hard.
Anti-religion. Kind of a sourpuss. Left-wing. If your sensitivities are "delicate," you'd better not take him. Not a hard class. U get notes, the quizzes are much like the tests. I lot of the material is straight forward. Had some group work (bleah!). BTW, he messed up Cain and Abel. (!)
Class time is a waste; you will definately learn more from the book. He uses lecture time to talk about what went wrong in his personal life and what's wrong with the world. Tests and quizes are hard because he doesn't teach and it's from the test bank. It's best to take another teacher if you want to do well and not get your grade screwed with.
he's really REALLY picky about labeling your scantrons correctly! but other than that he explains stuff thoroughly and notes are helpful- you have to read the chapters more to do well. and he loves GRAPHS on "back up" and current events. he's funny and sarcastic. tests are easy bc you can use a cheat sheet and most questions are from the PREQUIZ
He is not a good Instructor for Econ. You have to learn by yourself. He's kinda funny, but he doesn't concentrate much on explaining econ stuffs. You may want to take him if you are a self-study student.
If you want to pass the class with an A, all you have to do is study for the quizzes (especially the graphs!); afterwards, simply use quiz questions/answers as your notes for the examinations; about 85% of the exam will consist of questions from the quizzes. Pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Oh, and about Gus. He's a funny guy. I like him.
he talks a lot about his personal life.he doesn't explain economics that well. test are really hard cuz you have no idea what he is talking about. try to attend every class.
He is a funny teacher. All you need to do is study for the prequiz and read the book. 50% of the test comes from the prequiz which he already gives the answers.
his tests are ridiculously hard, you need to back up your answers...though he offers extra credit and allow you to work in groups for your quizes, but still they are extremely hard...i'm still taking his class right now, but so far more than half the class are gone.
He is very rude. Believes he is on top of everyone. He saids he try's to help students, but he puts them down.
Gus is a cool guy. I have a 99% in the class, however I know thats not what I actually earned. Just show an interest in economics and be a good student, and he will help you. Give effort and you will get an A or B. Class started with 40 ppl, 14 were left at the end. Carrot and the stick.
Great teacher..cares a lot about his students even though he says and acts like he doesn't. He prepares you A LOT for his exams before the exam is given. I recommend you taking his classes. I took him for Econ 120 and 121.
"his tests are ridiculously hard, you need to back up your answers...though he offers extra credit and allow you to work in groups for your quizes, but still they are extremely hard...i'm still taking his class right now, but so far more than half the class are gone." That's soooooo TRUE. TO PASS YOU HAVE TO HAVE ATLEAST ONE OTHER PERSON TO SHARE T
Montes is a pretty cool guy if you get on his good side. You'll have to learn on your own though because he does NOT teach anything whatsoever. He loves talking about how he hates everything especially the government. Tests are extremely hard, even with a cheat sheet. Suck up to this guy, and you should manage to get a B and if you're lucky, you'll get an A!
I would say that he gives hard quizzes and his exams are easy because he preps you with pre exams and gives you the answer and for the most part the same question are in the exams. Does like to talk about what he doesn't like and how he wants am earthquake to happen. Overall montes keeps it cool and i would definitly recomm'd him
This guy is alright. I'm currently in his summer class and he made a student drop out. I wanted to drop out after seeing what he had done, but I stuck around. His tests are hard, but he allows a page of notes which makes the tests easier. He can be a bit rough on his students but that's his style. I can't wait until the session is over.
He is not a good teacher. His intentions are good but i wouldnt consider him a good teacher. He goes off topic so much that his class was a waste of my time. He gives people advice about their life which is very unnecessary and preaches about his beliefs. The class is not hard/not easy. The homework and his lectures dont help 4 the test.
Gus is a mediocre econ professor. For the pre-tests/quizzes, he wants you to circle the answer and then back it up with why that's the best answer which is time consuming and so high school. He is harsh and makes absurd demands and lectures about bs thats unrelative to econ. His system and beliefs will fail in the real market system.
HE SUCKS. VERY RUDE. NOT HELPFULL AT ALL.
he is a very funny teacher, however, you have to get his joke.
he's such a great teacher, cares alot about students. All you need to do is read book, study the quiz which half of the test comes from.
He cool. All you need is read the book, take note, and bring your note. Reading book is very important.
He is a JERK! He is rude and thinks very highly of himself. He looks like PAJARO LOCO (CRAZY BIRD). S>A>
You have to read the textbook and study by yourself in order to pass his class b/c he doesn't teach anything. One more thing, he is rude.
his class was pretty easy his tests were pretty much the practice tests he gives you but switches the question nmbers around or changes one questions. You have to get his jokes and he cares for his students and makes it so easy to get at least a C if you show up every once in a while.
he's such a great teacher, cares alot about students. All you need to do is read book, study the quizes which half of the testes comes from.
Gus is a really cool teacher with a great sense of humor (Bozo and Mr. Dog!). He knows his stuff too. The problem is he doesn't really teach. Instead he sort of rants about how he hates society. Very entertaining, but you pretty much have to teach yourself and do ALL the reading. Many of the quizzes were take-home or group work.
Im currently taking his summer course. He is really judgmental, if you try to make a comment during the class, he is not very supportive. The quizzes are difficult, but he lets you back up your answers for credit. One word. CYNICAL. He was a bucket of sunshine from day one. He does get personal, and waste time.
HIS SUMMER CLASS IS MORE EASIER. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WORK HARD AS THE FULL SEMESTER CLASS. IT IS QUITE EASY TO PASS WITH A "B". HIGH GRADE IS DEPENDED ON HOW YOU DO THE BACK UP
Great proff! I guess some people don't get his humor and mistake him for being rude. He's just a funny guy and he cares about his students as long as they care about the class. Economics deals with difficult abstract concepts, but 50% of test questions come from the quizzes, and he will help you till you understand, just ask questions! Gus rules!
Cool professor. If you need help ask him! he will help you!
Most of these bad comments are ficticious, or the student didn't study and got a bad grade. I took Gus twice in a row on purpose. He does rant on tangents about the world and he is unexpectedly harsh at times, but its because he knows you can do better (think House) I highly recommend him, just don't be afraid to ask questions in class, and study!
Great professor!Highly recommended, but you have to read all the material, study & ask questions. One of the best at SAC. I took both 121 & 120. You will be ready for the next level after his classes.
STUDY! Econ can be hard becasue of the material, not because of his teaching. What really stands out to me as a student is that he wants the student to form oppionions about current events (especially economic issues). Too many people don't know whats going on in the world. This professor stands out from my other ones.
He is a good teacher not hard to understand doodles alot(dont try to guess what he draws cuz your probly wrong) the subject is complicated and confusing and it is a lot of work sometimes but the class is very simple to follow.do the HOME WORK reading and back up. you will do good i took 120&121 at the same time and passed both im a C student
Just took the final and I'm a little uneasy. It was quite difficult. However, all other exams were easy for me. A complaint I have about this professor is that he tends to wander from the subject a lot. Therefore you have to teach yourself the material. Overall an okay class.
Bad teacher. Come to class to get pay, teach nothing.
HE IS A VERY HARD TEACHER I ENDED UP GETTING AN B ITS EASY TO PASS BUT VERY HARD TO GET AN A IN HIS CLASS HE LECTURES ON THE KEY PTS OF THE BOOK BUT NOT ABOUT HIS EXAMS SO READ THE BOOK YOURSELF IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE HE DOESNT EXPLAIN ALOT OF STUFF CLEARLY GOES OFF SUBJECT ALOT
He is not well-ordered, He behined technology..Don't take him because you have to read a book and do everything by your self...test hard and somtime question crazy...
Econ concepts aren't easy to grasp, at least for most people. If you don't read the book, you will fail. He will tell you which concepts you need to understand for the tests. Make sure you do the homework and backups, they are easy points. Tests are almost identical to quizes. If you can't pass this class, don't even transfer to university.
How can you call this guy a teacher? he only tells you"You should read the chapters x3 if you want to pass" He tries to to explain stuff but he goes off topic and makes rude jokes about everybody>>DONT TAKE HIM!..
Took him for both 120 & 121. Great professor! Not an easy subject but the professor will take his time in explaining any question you may have. Yes you have to read but what do you expect? It?s college. There is no reason why you shouldn?t pass his classes if you read the chapters at least once and do the take home quizzes.
not the class to take if you already have a hard time concentrating....he is all over the place. Yes, he is helpful if you go to him for specific questions, yet his teaching style is more similar to a Jester's. He thinks highly of himself if he can get a chuckle out of the class, no matter who's views, background, creed, orientation he offends.
took him for 120 and 121 he is easy to pass but hard to get an A its not an easy class and he doesnt make it easy at all but as long as you try youll be able to pass his class i would suggest you read the book his lectures just comes out on the top of his head and it seems like the exams are coming from the textbook
He is an excellent Teacher.
He is an awesome teacher. I knew very little about econ before taking his class, but i'm really interested in it now. The class is not difficult, econ may be hard to understand for some people, but he is a very good teacher and relates things things to real life. if you get offended by his jokes, get over it, they may be "offensive" but are funny
Gus is helpful to an extreme. He knows most people are in his class because it is required. He does everything he can to ensure the student gets a passing grade as long as the student shows an interest. I liked him enough to get in his 121 class.
He's a cool guy, his class is easy IF YOU TRY and read, he tries to help you get the best grade possible. In class he would get side distracted but it was very entertaining, especially his drawings. He's a down to earth teacher. If you need econ take MONTES, recommended passed his class with a B and i don't understand the material LOL
He's a cool professor, but can be too laid back at times. The material is straight forward. If you don't understand his lectures, everything can be found in the book. His exams/quizzes are straight from the book, and often reviews the questions with you.
Really good professor. His lectures are entertaining and he's generally pretty laid back. He gives students tons of points for just doing the homework, so the class is easy if you apply yourself. You need to read in order to succeed, but it's very straightforward. I highly recommend Gus, particularly if you really want to understand economics.
He is a great teacher, entertaining, helpful, a little eccentric at times. Got an A, wasn't too tough. He is on your team and wants you to succeed. I don't agree with anyone who said he's a lazy teacher. He is a great teacher and I'm taking him again for 121.
This guy is a great teacher. He will help you with anything you need help with. He works WITH you. He knows you want to succeed, and he wants you to too. You have to read the stupid book though, in order to get a good grade. He does a great job explaining, but the test material is almost entirely from the book.
His a very funny, truthful and flexible Professor.
Great Professor, helps out students a lot if you seek for his help. Tests are based on the book material, partnering up on your own with other students helps a lot.Mr. Montes is a funny/sarcastic guy and has a lot of interesting things to say each class, which makes it fun.
Fun guy. Easy homework which sets you up for the quizzes/tests. If you listen to his lectures, and do the homework, you should EASILY get a B on his tests.
Best Econ. teacher EVER! Yes, the material is hard, but Mr. Montes is so helpful. Gives you homework and goes over any questions you may have in the next class meeting. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Fun class! How can you not learn in a class that talks about gold toylets!? Great command of the class. Very helpful with questions. Kinda hard but you'll feel great when you actually learn something.
Best teacher EVER!!!! Just do the reading and participate in class discussions and you're guaranteed a good grade.
class is designed to read the text. if you don't read it, you cannot do your hw, quizes, and tests. make sure to do the extra credit. it will help you a lot in the end. I took econ120 and 121. Easy to pass but not that is to get an A. Only 2 people from 120 was getting As before the final and 3 people from 121. take him!!!
Do not take this prof if you are the type of student who coasts through school because you will not pass. I studied, participated in class, and passed w/a B but it wasnt easy! He gives answers to quizzes and those questions are on the tests. YOU MUST READ and do HW to pass the class. I loved his class and will be taking 121 with him next semester!
Subject is not easy. People fail to read and blame it on other things. The man knows his subject but cannot discuss it unless people read. Answers any and every question one may have. Very knowledgeable, humurous, and cool.
Read the book, do the hw, take a quiz, and you will pass the exams. Awesome learning enviroment full of humor and information. Definitely will be taking Econ 121 with him again.
Great professor. You need to read the book to succeed, but he keeps class interesting. Tests are based on the book and not the lectures, but it's still worth going to class. He's a great professor and tries to keep students involved. I'm now an Econ major at a university because of his classes. I definitely recommend him.
Best personality, a bit too forgiving.
Overall, very helpful professor. It is important to participate & engage in class discussions because he gives extra credit & tends to help them. His tests consists on quizzes which he gives answers to and read the textbook! Take advantage of every extra credit like take notes, participation and complete HW & quizzes.
Very funny guy. His class is very easy and he is very helpful.
Not an easy class, and also not for those who want clear cut straight-edge lecture notes and tests styled classes. The only way to get an A is to actually read and process the book. Material can be difficult but he's happy to answer questions. Visit during office hours and he'll help you out! Two of the most rewarding A's I worked my butt off for.
Honestly the best class! So fun and interesting. The quizzes are just test study guides, so when you take a test you already know all the answers basically. he offers great extra credit. for taking notes you get 5% EC at the end of the semester, also participate! talk, argue, laugh, do whatever you can and he will award you. Gus is a great teacher!
I find it hard to understand his lecture because he does not go from basic. He jumps to the most complex and explain from there.
Honestly, Gus is one of the best professors I've had at Santa Ana College. He is very dedicated to his students and does his best to have them all pass. Just participate and show EFFORT, there should be no problem passing the course! Anyone who says otherwise is just expecting to get a passing grade without doing anything. Best class ever!
Great professor! Not an easy class but if you read and do your work, you will pass his class! He makes the class fun with his sense of humor!. I loved his class!
Though I passed the course noticed he is very unorganized and sloppy. Talks more nonsense than he teaches, very disrespectful towards students which is very unprofessional. When a student asks questions he is lazy and makes another fellow student teach the class. Basically a self-taught class that's how you'll pass. Good luck if you take his class.
Hated him and dropped the class. He expects you to read the book and teach yourself. He is always angry for some reason. Test are hard. If you ask a question his response is "Did you read the chapter?". I need a teacher to actually lecture and provide insight. If I am going to teach myself, I might as well take an online class.
His a great teacher. He may get off topic during lecture and is not organized with what he is suppose to do. But he does ALOT of extra Credit. You do have to make sure to read the chapters before quizzes and the test in order to pass his class. He gives out Take Home Quizzes, which help you out for the Exams, which there are similar questions to.
Dont listen to the people who said he is not a Great Teacher. He is a Great professor who helps you pass the class. All you have to do is participate in class and just do things he tells you to get extra credit. He is hilarious and keeps the class entertained EASY B class i failed all my tests and got a B
The class itself wasn't complicated, got an A. His lectures are short though so you might as well teach yourself. Very disrespectful towards students, doesn't like to answer questions or he makes students teach other students. Seems like he hates his job! Your better off choosing another instructor. Make your time and moneys worth.
He is there for you when you ask for help. Go to his office hours. Most importantly READ!! when everyone reads the class was insightful. But when no one reads the class sucked! Do your take home quizzes and study them hard because the exam are mostly similar. He also gives tons of homework. Good teacher. Great sense of humor.
he's really helpful and will work with you if you show interest too.
His lectures are all over the place. He can also be very rude towards students. Get ready to learn by yourself. might as well take the course online since he does not teach much.
Talks too much, doesn't stay on course. Sense of humor chill but may be rude towards students most of the time. Read the book its essential to passing. Good Luck if you take his class!.
This is the worst professor at santa ana college. He is very rude to students. he is lazy and unorganized, his lectures consist of things that have nothing to do with economics. If you ask a question he will tell you to read the book or he will ask another student to answer your question. Bottom line he sucks!!!
The question is who on earth hired this man to teach in the first place. He is rude, does not lecture, lazy, unprofessional, and ignorant. He says he cares for his students, but, at the end of the day, he makes a 6 digit salary for not doing his job. His job is to teach, not rant about people and society.
Gus makes a genuine effort to get students engaged with the content and connect with each other. Reading is essential! He doesn't spoon-feed new content in class. He will go over core concepts and help those who made an effort to understand the material. This approach is excellent for transitioning students into a 4yr setting (a return grad myself)
He is very very very rude to students. He puts down people's ideas down and is very stubborn when you try and challenge his teachings. His lectures are not lectures but more of rants. I would not recommend taking his class if you are trying to learn about econ. Did not learn a thing.
Gus is great, just don't call him Sir or Mr. Montes. Just Gus. I took him for the summer, and as long as you do your work and study you will be well off.
Ignore all the bad reviews. He's probably my favorite teacher here at SAC. His lectures aren't the best, but as long as you keep up with your reading and make sure you study the stuff he gives you, you'll easily pass. He gives you the questions that make up 40% of your exam grade and the other 60% are questions he takes out from the take home quiz.
He really cares about his students and will go the extra mile to help you if you make an effort to consult with him. He gave me the confidence to further my studies. He prepares you more than adequately for the test with prep materials. You can easily obtain an A if you put in the effort.
Mr. Montes has a funny sense of humor. However, his class was not that easy. YOU HAVE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK OR ELSE YOU WONT PASS!!! He will not go over all the material in class and expects you to learn it all yourself. Most of the exams are in groups and there is a lot of homework. I got a B in this class but that was because I put my all!!
Mr. Montes is really good teacher. He makes the class fun. THe class is a hard class, but what can you expect, its a 4 unit class. He is very fair, I highly recommend his class
he is a great teacher if you wrote a bad review then you probably didn't talk our class was great we talked all and he made the class fun he will help you out there is a line for his office hours if you need help ask her his office hours how does he know when you need help when you don't ask him right ? great teacher taking him again for micro
I took this class during intercession and he was great in my opinion. He really works with you to get the grade that you deserve and he's honestly there to make sure that you pass. It was a super condensed class but he was fair and there were a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Make sure that you read, and do the homework.
4-week intersession. He wants all of his students to pass & gives extra credit opportunities. He tries to have everyone engage in lectures & games. Sometimes there are group exams. I only used my book for hw & exams, never read the chapters. I got an A+ but there were students who read & highlighted their books & still struggled. You should read.
I took Professor Montes, for both econ 120 and 121. I took him during the summer intersession and I got a B and then I took him for the winter intersession and got an "A". Was it easy ? no it wasnt... but is it possible? Yes it is if you put in the effort, Read the chapters and participate. He will work with you if you communicate with him.
Gus is an Awesome Professor!
Professor Montes is Great. He's very engaging in the class and expects you read and know the material. He is one of if not THE best teachers I have had in college. His class is interesting and he ties the book reading into very applicable real world current macro economic trends. He should be teaching at the next level. I highly recommend him.
He is an amazing professor! He cares about his student and will help them succeed. You really need to read in order to understand what's going on. This class requires a lot of work but it's worth it. He is so funny! Time flies by in his class. I will be taking him next semester for ECON 121. Goodluck!
He is really funny and likes to talk to his class he is easy to talk to outside of class make sure you see him after every test so he can counsel on how to get a good score on the test !
Great Professor! So funny just make sure you READ!
Read REad Read Read your chapters and do ALL of the extra credit and you will get an A.
Well I took Gus during summer for 120 and 121 which I think is a mistake unless you have no life besides school. His class does involve a lot of work but if you keep up with the online hw and take home quizzes you should be fine. I would recommend taking 120 first and not taking two classes together unless it's in a regular semester.
I took Gus for both 120 and 121 and his class is difficult but he understands and is willing to work for you. If you do all the online homework and takehome quizes you should get at least a B. Exams are mostly taken in groups depending on how engaged the class is with reading the material
He is a professor with attitude, whose cynicism and sarcasm allow him to keep you awake and keep you interested. As stale as economics is, Gus is undoubtedly the most lively professor on campus, he is a Grinch with a cold demeanor but a warm heart. READ, do your homework ON TIME, COMMUNICATE with him, and you will pass. Your grade reflects you.
Economics is not your typical history class, which includes memorization. However, this professor is willing to work with you, but you must do your part. You must read, show up to class, participate, finish all your homework, and always complete your take home quizzes. This will allow you to achieve the grade you want. Also, class is never dull!!
If you're expecting an easy grade, this is not the class. He is laid back, but he assumes you know the material already. He rants about "lala land" all of class & his class notes are just a bunch of drawings. He will say to do assignment worth 20 points and the day it's "due" he won't even bring it up. If you don't do your homework, he'll pick on u
I took Professor Montes for ECON 120. Reading chapters from the textbook is crucial to succeed in his class since he expects students to know the material. He is also very sarcastic and funny but has a warm heart. He wants his students to pass but you have to work for it and do the extra credit. Great Professor, will take again .
Everything he does is for your own good. He's really preparing you for the next level. Even the drawings have a purpose, everything does! Discipline of becoming a good student, he's big on that. He knows the subject very well and is a GREAT teacher! Really can get on your last nerve, but its for your own good. Very grateful for his experience.
Reading the book is everything. READ THE BOOK, MEMORIZE IT. He gives you the tests beforehand and expects you to explain how to get the answer for every single question. I failed every single test and got a C in the class because of the extra credit.
Hope be good chance this class!
Awesome instructor and very lenient on your grade, if you take the initiative to talk to him. The material is difficult and that is the reason for 3 on difficulty. I would recommend to take him on an evening class. He is hilarious but can be very serious at times.
Do all the extra credit even tho its tedious. I failed most of the tests but I talked to him and really tried and got a B in both ECON 120/121 with him. Has a dry sense of humor but if u joke back he will think its funny. Material is hard itself so make sure u read. Tests are open book not open note.
Probably one of the hardest classes i've taken. The content isn't necessarily difficult, but, if you're looking for an A, you're going to have to study incredibly hard. There are few concepts covered in class so you're expected to understand most on your own. The tests are legit AP-standard tests. Don't expect a break with the tests. study hard!
By far one of the most honest professors I have had. He is sooo sarcastic, but I personally enjoyed it. He actually cares for his students, but you have to care for the class yourself. The tests will be easy if you read the book (which was enjoyable). He gives you the tools to succeed in his class. :)
I took Gus Bc I wanted to get more classes done out of CSULB. Best decision! very funny and his humor is what makes class bearable. The content is difficult, make sure to take notes and read the book and ask questions because he does throurouhly answer them. Talk to him outside of class. He likes to see his students care about their own grade.
Be ready to read! If you read and ask questions you should do well in class. If you're having a hard time understanding the material speak to him during office hours. He cares about his students and will go out of his way to help. He is funny and makes the class go by fast!
I love him, the lecture is amazing! I recommend to take his class!!
I took Professor Gus for Econ 120 and it was the best decision I have made, context was somewhat difficult but nothing you can't do. He works with you and is so open to helping you. He is the pure definition of a teacher. He has passion and WANTS you to learn. His lectures are so fun and there is never a day that you will be bored. Amazing humor.
You have a set of good answer that you are a enjoyable process in class. A positive to this style of teaching is great because want to answer each questions about how to economics is not easy an organization. Thank you for helping me from homework while office hour! ;)
great person!! makes class fun lol
Professor Montes is a fun, loving kind of guy. There is a lot of homework and gives extra credit if you participate in class. Tests range in level of difficulty from very easy to very difficult. Sometimes tests are unreasonably time constrained.
This is Jairo, for non-anonymity's sake. His teaching style focuses on engagement and he lectures well, asking students to briefly recap to ensure we understand, as well as using funny stories and examples. He clearly cares about his students, and offers to help anyone who asks for it. Study hard, do the work, ask when needed, and you'll pass well.
Gus is by far the best professor take for Econ. The class is easy and he gives MANY opportunities for you to pass the class. Do the online hw and the take home quizzes and study them for the exam and you'll do fine. Visit him during his office hours and he WILL work with you. This Ivan from Fall 2017 TTH11:10! Just in case you're reading his Gus!
Awesome professor! He will help you to get a higher grade by doing extra credits
One of the easiest classes I took at SAC. All you have to do is read the book, and understand what the concepts of the chapter. I guess students don't like to read the book, in which translating to failing the class. C'mon people, if you are not planning to put the effort in every class you take, then reconsider coming to school.
He will give the same effort into you, the same way you give effort to his class. He is there to get you ready for the next level. Ask for help, he will help you. He does not take laziness lightly. Do your work, participate in his conversations, read, and you will pass. Montes uses real life situations to describe his lessons. Xtra-cred is earned.
READ, READ, READ. He will love you if you read lol. Take home exams reflect the in class exams and short answers ques. are given ahead of time. Open book exams and he offers tons of e.c. Very caring prof and I would definitely recommend taking his class. Relies on groups to prep for exams (100 pts) and final (200 pts). it's Tanya from 120 AND 121!
I didn't really enjoy his class. I was confused during lectures because it felt like everything was all over the place. You can't skip class you'll be lost! He expects you to explain the answers to every question on the exams. He's very sarcastic and puts you on the spot.
this is my favorite teacher in this college, his tests are not easy. But he will help you if you show effort he is not a tough grader. However, he can't help you if you don't let him know you need it. If you want to challenge him he gladly accepts his humor is odd but soon enough you will understand it. If there was a third class i would take it to
This guy is amazing. Your tests are almost exactly the same questions as the test reviews he sends home (counts as homework). He knows his stuff and presents it well. If you pay attention to his class and read before hand, you will get an A and you will know the material. This class was my favorite class over my 2 years at Santa Ana College.
You will definitely need to put in the work if you want to pass this class. Make sure to purchase a paper book because he will most likely let you use it during exams. Do the online homework, read(even if you don't get it at first) and make sure to attend class or you will miss very useful information. He wants to see you pass, just show effort.
Took both of his econ classes. Pretty easy if you just do the take home quizzes. Exams are pretty easy since they were open book. He is very generous with extra credit if you are willing to participate.
Mr. Montes has been by far my favorite professor. He does leave a lot of homework with the connect and the quiz and reading is a must if you want to get a good grade. He is caring for your grade and wants you to succeed. His classes are very engaging and is easy accesible at his office.
Hes super mellow. I enjoyed the class a lot
Hes rude and unprofessional. Hes lazy and expects students to read books, learn by themselves; his lectures are a lot of rants and not really related to economics. All he gives are the test questions and answers which will be mostly the same as the real test. Memorize them and you can get good grade without really learning about econ!
Professor Montes is amazing! He is very helpful with students and his teaching is very visual which was a plus for me since I enjoy learning visually. Definitely would recommend this class. If you seem lost he will try his best to help you, would definitely recommend visiting his office hours for help.
He's very chill and knows what he's talking about. He will do his part as long as you do yours. He wants you to pass his class so he makes himself available. Take advantage of his Office Hours.
Long overdue review. I took his summer class years ago and while it was an intense class, Professor Montes will do his best to help you pass the class. Group exams and lots of extra credit. I almost dropped the class due to personal issues but Professor Montes insisted I stayed. If you put in the effort and participate, you will pass the class!
I took both Macro Econ120 & Micro Econ 121. He is the best professor ever. He will answer most of your questions. Get ready to read text book, do homework and answer all quiz questions. Participate in the class activity and get extra credit. You could get an A.
Dont be intimidated by his bluntness and sarcasm; he is a very caring professor! He makes you work for your grade and offers many opportunities to bring your grade up. Definitely not an easy A but enjoyable nonetheless.
Professor Montes is a tough teacher but if you discipline yourself to read the book the class will be easy, hes stories are the best and he can be sarcastic sometimes but he is really funny and like to help his students a lot
One of the best teachers I've ever had, if you have the chance to take his class, DO IT! He takes you seriously if you take him seriously, so show up to class, ask questions, do the work and he'll do everything he can to make sure you understand the material and get the best grade possible.
Great professor! Professor Montes will help you out if you put in the effort. If you go to his class and don't participate and if you're struggling and don't go see him at his office hours, you are going to fail! Hard Class but fun at the same time. He tries to teach the class with things that are going on today.
Professor Montes is the best Ive had at SAC and I highly highly recommend taking his econ classes. He truly invests in each student and wants you to succeed.
great teacher, great sense of humor. cares about his students. as boring as econ is he tries to make it fun and easy for you to understand. his jokes make it so you don't fall asleep in the class. the reading in this class is heavy, prepare for the exams well to pass. really recommend his class he's great!
He is the best professor at SAC. He wants everyone to succeed.
I love him! He was so patient. As long as you show him effort, he will help you
He is an okay professor. I didn't like his dark sense of humor. Pretty students will be his favorites and he will flirt in front of the whole class with them. He'll provide useful study guides for the exams and if he is in a good mood, he will explain Econ. eagerly. But, when in a bad mood, he will make students feel stupid and ridicule them.
Took this Professor years back. Dude is hella awesome. Textbook wasn't really a thing at least in my experience. Not sure if he still teaches but if he does hes cool. When I was in his class he gave us packets to study and they would be on the tests. Shoutout to Gus!
