I had Cepparo for Calc 1. He really cares and explains everything very clear. He also knew everyones names in a lecture hall??
Great class. He is very clear and makes statistics fun. We used SAS and R all the time in class and homeworks. The homeworks are long (lots of writting) and interpreting computer output. Now I suffer from SAS addiction.
Very good class. He has a good teaching style and he is a people person. Explains everything very clear with lots of examples. The first argentine I liked...joke!
Gustavo did a good job. We had 3 test, homeworks and a class project. The homeworks took a long time. Very useful applied stat course. He uses the R program.
awesome teacher! he is sincerely interested in his students doing well..just go to class, take notes, and you'll be fine. he allows us an 8x11 cheat sheet for every test and TWO for the final
Easy to understand despite his accent. Very entertaining and great professor, recommend to anyone.
His accent is alright- i could deal with it temporarily. The HWs are due on Thursday so it gives you plenty of time to check over and do them. The tests are ridiculously hard and graded in a tough manner (unless the TA grades them). Overall I'm satisfied but I highly suggest anyone who took AP Calculus BC in HS to take M408C .
I survived because of my study group. Each quest question only gets 1 attempt or you miss 10 points. Check examples online. Wolfram Alpha is your new best friend. TA was occasionally helpful. Don't miss class, it'll really hurt. If you study hard, you can make it.
I love gustavo. He's super funny and cool. He makes really good analogies. He's pretty clear, and the TA's are good and so although the class material is quite difficult, you have the tools you need to succeed. The textbook is pretty good too. Workload is pretty average and he grades easily. One of the best calc professors at UT.
Great professor and was very well at breaking things down. Exams were difficult, but what can you expect from a Calculus 2 course.
Good sense of humor and overall great teacher. Only thing is his tests are pretty difficult, study hard and do all the homework and you should do well in his class.
Cepparo is a lot of fun to listen to, and is incredibly friendly and high energy. His class was a healthy level of challenging and if you do all of the homework, attend class, and work hard, you'll come out with an A.
If you screw up just one of his exams, you grade will be affected. So beware! I had 3 tests overall and though I improved from 66% to 96% to 104% (you see how good that improvement is), I could not make an A. :'( Work from the beginning. BTW he stammers on one phrase (always): OK WITH THAT? lol. And he loves coffee.
Weekly Quest and written homework assignments (10% of total grade each, 20% total). Each exam is 2 parts - half on Friday and half on the following Monday (I found this to be significantly stressful). Only 2 exams (not including final), so one bad grade will hurt. No calculators or notecards on any exams. Exams were lengthy and rather difficult.
The class is fast paced so it definitely becomes a struggle to stay with it if you happen to miss a few days of class. Cepparo teaches well and does help you grade wise. He won't blatantly tell you he will curve a grade but he always gave points back. Stay on top of the material and it is definitely a manageable class.
He clearly knew what he was teaching. However, the class is very quickly paced so stay on top of things!!!
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. Cepparo is extremely entertaining during his lectures, which are very structured, and always makes jokes to keep you interested and awake. Also, he is very patient with his students and very receptive to questions. He gives a lot of homework and if you do it, you'll get the practice you need to do well on the tests.
CEPPARO IS AWESOME!!! If you do and understand his homework, study his online material, go to class, and go to his office hours for questions, you WILL do well. He is a very generous grader and cares about his students alot. This is also a fantastic class to take if you must take an 8AM! Very funny! Very entertaining! He made Calculus amazing!
Gustavo is a great instructor and teaches with a lot of enthusiasm. I received a C in the class, but that was my own fault. The class moves very, very fast so if you don't keep up, you can into a very deep hole. Kinda wish I had taken Davis instead since she's easier.
Definitely not an easy class, but Cepparo is a fantastic teacher. His explanations in class were clear, although he did run through material very quickly so it was difficult to keep up at times. There's one book assignment and one quest per week, so workload is a bit heavy. I had only taken Calc AB prior, but I did all the work and made an A.
Cepparo was amazing. I loved every second of his class. He gave a lot of homework, but it really helped me tremendously. I had taken calculus before, so it was pretty easy for me and I made an A on every test. He is very willing to help and loves his students. Take this guy, you won't regret it.
Cepparo brings a lot of energy to his lectures and has high interest in the subject. Despite this, some material is not explained in the clearest way. I strongly suggest doing additional problems/reading in the book to fully understand the material and do well on the tests. Also use his office hours. He wants you to do well. Tests have a curve.
Cepparo is hilarious! I took his class at 8am MWF and he made it energetic and informative. His notes are organized and briefs you before exams. Expect a rather heavy load of weekly Quest and textbook homework. TA sessions aren't mandatory but you need to go to turn in your homework to be graded. Must work for an A. Most enjoyable class so far.
He's a great professor. Makes lectures very funny and easy to follow. He likes to not go into theory but give only examples, so if you're looking for theory I wouldn't take him. There is a lot of homework, but it is helpful and guiding and is similar to the test problems. If you do well on the homework, you'll do well on the tests!
He is so amazing. I had him for 8am calculus and I still looked forward to going to his class because I knew he would be funny. Sometimes he might say something confusing, but he has plenty of office hours and will work with you until you understand. He is amazing!!!(:
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Cepparo was awesome because what we focused on in class was what was on the test.
Cepparo is awesome. Clear lectures, very nice and helpful in office hours. An easy A if you study and keep up with the work. Weekly textbook assignments and quest quizzes.
Although I loved having Gustavo as a professor, and felt like he taught the information in the course very well, I just didn't enjoy the set up of the course. There are 2 midterms and one final. If you do badly on one you are pretty screwed over for the rest of the semester.
Mathematical Statistics is really difficult, but I can't imagine having taken anyone else for this class. Lectures were really clear and he was always willing to help students. The tests were thorough and a little tricky at times, but on the whole they were pretty fair. I can't begin to recommend him highly enough.
He's really energetic, funny, and passionate for teaching his subject. He's also a really helpful and good teacher and his notes/lectures are easy to understand. Homework can feel like a lot sometimes, but it really helps when it comes to his tests. The only thing I really disliked was that there were only three tests the entire year.
I was enticed by positive reviews and promises of a moderately difficult class. Don't make the same mistake I did. The amount of homework you receive in this class is beyond unreasonable. Two midterms and a final, all of which are a nightmare, will ensure a bad time. He's a really nice and funny guy but a horrible grader. Take someone else.
Though Mathematical Statistics was a tough course, Cepparo made it more than manageable. In my opinion, go to class, study hard, and you won't even need the book. Cepparo is always open to help and genuinely cares about your success. Would definitely recommend.
Don't take him... he gives 2 midterms administered in 2 parts on Friday and Monday, which can be absolutely miserable since they are weighted so heavily. His examples in class are often left half finished since he believes you should be able to finish it, and he tends to avoid explaining the math and relying on examples to get you to catch on.
Super funny, charismatic, and wants everyone to succeed. No matter how dumb a question, he will attempt to understand and not ridicule. The class seemed to partly lose direction at the end, and most of the studying we did outside of class. There is a LOT of homework. Tests are very fair; you have to work for it. He makes 8AM lively!
The material in Multivariable Calculus was difficult. Gustavo was a great professor and explained the material with very nice examples (not easy examples). During exams I remembered thinking of the examples giving in lecture. We had 4 exams (13.5 % each) and a final (30%). Homework was 8% and Quest was 8%
He was very funny and patient in class and during his office hours. Attendance was mandatory with a participation grade. We worked on proofs and he made comments on applications to computer science. The exams were fair. The textbook is pretty good. There is lots of homework with problems not found in the text.
Cepparo is one of the best teachers to take for M408D. He's a good lecturer, and if you devote time to the class, and study the examples he gives you (as well as some problems from the textbook), you'll be just fine. There is A LOT of homework, so be prepared for that, but overall he makes the class fun and relatively straightforward.
Lots of homework. Good lectures, really teaches the material well. The exams are fair. Brings a lot of energy to the morning lectures, kept me awake.
Cepparo is an AMAZING teacher. He is very funny, keeps you engaged with his quirkiness and clearly has a very good grasp on the subject and can relate it very effectively. The content is difficult and the homework is by no means light, but as far as lectures go, I was excited to take notes from him. I would absolutely take another Cepparo course.
Tough grader and gives a lot of homework but he makes the topic very interesting. He is good at explaining and really cares about his students. Don't take this class if you're not interested in statistics because it will be hell.
Great professor! We had homework every week. Exams were ok (a little tricky). Very helpful during office hours. Also the TA was very helpful.
Professor Gustavo is very funny and patient with any type of questions. The class is not easy. You need to have a recent M362K. We had 5 exams and homework every friday. He loves stats.
He was funny and engaging enough to keep me awake most of the time for his 8 AMs. He explains things well and the assigned homework is very helpful for the tests. He is a more lenient grader and cares more about your learning.
TONS of homework (I chegged everything lmao but it still took a lot of time) and some pretty strict grading but Cepparo is a great stats professor. U learn a lot and he definitely has inspired me to take more statistics classes in the near future!
The best professor I've ever had. Aside from his interesting lectures and great sense of humor, it is very apparent that he is a highly revered, genuine person who cares about his students and encourages learning beyond the classroom. I would definitely recommend taking any class with him.
Small parts of the lectures were important, the tests contained key things he would go over. Tests were pretty easy though. Homework is tough and he grades it tough too
If you fail one exam, you screwed up the whole semester. That's true!
Great professor. He's energetic and funny. His weekly homework assignments were hard and were from the textbook. While I liked the professor a lot, I don't like his testing style. He gives two tests for each unit. Normally this helps, but I always did worse on the second one. His final involved using a R, so be prepared.
Gustavo was really a great prof. Go to his lectures and do all the homework and you'll be fine.
Very disorganized lecturer. His Canvas page is also a mess.
Mathematical Statistics was a great class with professor Cepparo. A lot of homework and 5 exams. The final had two parts (with and without laptop). I'm ready for more Statistics and Machine Learning in the Fall.
I love Gustavo! He is very caring, inviting (he says we all have a friendship with him :D) and passionate about what he teaches. His tests are tough, but if you do your work, attend class, study, and do all the practice tests he uploads (seriously do them they are very helpful) an A is attainable.
There's lots of homework. For midterms, it'll be pretty difficult, but he provides reviews (except you must still study and practice). He's a good teacher, but the content was really fast-paced and difficult. He's one of the best calc teachers at UT, but get ready to do a lot of homework.
Gustavo was a great professor! His lectures covered the basic material and the homework was a more in-depth version of the examples from class. His tests were challenging but manageable if you do all the homework, and he structures the class so you have two tests over the same material (one easier, one harder). Four tests total, and no quizzes.
Love Gustavo! This course is hard but Cepparo does his best to make it fun at 8AM. He assigns lots of homework and his testing system is a little funky (see other reviews). That being said, an A is still attainable! I'd previously only done Calculus AB but I did well. Just show up to lecture, do all the homework, and you should be fine!
Gustavo is an amazing professor that knows how to engage and teach his students very well! Lectures were at 8AM MWF, which seems pretty daunting, but were worth the challenge. The class has A LOT of homework and one quest due weekly, but if you manage your time and learn the material, you'll be fine. Go to office hours early on to avoid confusion!
Gustavo was such a caring prof! If you've taken Calc BC prior to this class, it is pretty much review. You have hw every week and 4 exams too! If you do your homework, you'll make As on all of the exams! If you ever need help though, talk to him! He is very sweet and funny. I went to class, did the work and asked questions & made an easy A!
I had him for a MWF 8am calculus lecture and still like him at the end of it, so that's something. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but I felt like I got a lot from lectures. One (kind of lengthy) textbook hw and one quest hw per week, which took a lot of time but also prepared me pretty well for the tests. Generous with partial credit on tests.
Gustavo is a caring, funny professor. The workload can build up towards the end of the semester, but he does a great job of making lectures understandable and engaging. Make sure to keep up with all of the homework and you will be prepared for the exams. The 8 am aspect was challenging, but I would highly recommend!
If you have already taken Calc BC, this class will seem like a drag due to the heavy amount of hw assigned each week. If not, the hw is helpful to prepare for the exams. Be prepared for back to back exams on Friday and Monday and little to no curve on the exams. Lectures vary in usefulness depending on the topic and he posts his notes online.
Cepparo is a great choice for this class. He's super energetic and funny during lectures and you can see that he really loves the subject. I found the assigned readings and homework pretty useful and the tests are pretty fair. The class was a bit disorganized at times, but he makes up for it by being super understanding and listening to students.
Two assignments per week and tests are back to back Monday/Friday. He does that to give you a second chance at the same material. One of the most inspiring Professors I have ever had. The lectures are entertaining and he always brings good energy. He takes the time to point out the future applications of the material.
The only reason I woke up for my MWF 8AMs. Literally a gem, hilarious man, and has really engaging lectures as well. SO MUCH HOMEWORK THOUGH!! The weekly textbook HW was generally harder than weekly Quest HW, but the tests don't get crazy difficult like the HW. 4 free response tests (no drops) and usually gives a small curve on the test grades.
A double hand amputee could count on their fingers the number of times Dr. Cepparo has shown up to class on time. Tests are returned with little feedback or room to improve, but still the best option for calc.
Professor Cepparo is unorganized and shows up frazzled. He teaches too quickly and doesn't check to make sure we understand and stresses students out
Professor Gustavo's Machine Learning course was very cool. Nice mix of applications and concepts. We used math stat at the beginning and a lot of linear algebra and bootstraps to explain concepts later. He loves stats and he is very funny. Lots of R for everything and Matlab once for SVD. Easy A.
M408D was a great experience with Professor Cepparo. Five test, homework from the book and Quest due every Friday and Sunday. Lots of homework! The exams are fair.
It was great that the professor was so enthusiastic about the course material and about teaching students! The class was super fun and also there was lots of hard material (Challenging). He is very patient with students and knows his stuff. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to have him for Predictive Analytics.
Professor Cepparo is very enthusiastic about the course which helps engage the class. He went at a reasonable pace, and the assignments were not too difficult but tested our knowledge. The lectures are clear and the notes he posts to his Canvas page are very helpful. He also was generous with partial credit (4 exams and a final).
Professor Gustavo is very helpful. He has great energy which keeps the class interesting. He works hard to make the material understandable and relatable. He is very understanding of student concerns.
Awesome math professor, walks through tons of examples and tells you everything you need to know to practice for the exam.
Gustavo is a fun professor for mathematical statistics. The homework was more difficult than the exams. We had homework every week and he had office hours on M,W and F. We used R for some simulations, bootstraps and randomization tests. I'm using his notes now for courses that I'm taking this semester (nice bayesian examples).
The most lively and fun professor I have ever had. He occasionally gets a little behind by giving more examples but his lectures are clear and easy to follow. The material is explained well.
This professor gives a tremendous amount of homework: online homework plus about 15 - 20 book problems per section, that is bout 45-60 book problems per week plus 20 - 26 online problems in a week. Tests are easy. Lectures are not good. He does not cover all the content. He solves the easiest problems in lecture, so you have to figure out the rest.
Professor Cepparo is a lot of fun in class! His tests have been very fair so far. We use R to run simulations for projects, but it is not expected that you know how to code. I would definitely take one of his classes again.
Nice instructor. The exams are fair and they are a Test (70%) and Project (30%) combination. Lectures are very informative and help with the homework. Homework every week, but no quizzes.
Cepparo is super understanding of the online situation and is receptive to students' needs. There's a lot of weekly homework (textbook & quest), but they prepare you well for the tests. Fair grading scale, gives partial credit on exams. If you took Calc BC, most content will be in-depth review.
Professor Cepparo was a great math stats professor! We had weekly homework that was challenging but manageable, and he would walk through problems if you went to office hours. The tests were around the same difficulty level as the homework, and he prepared us well for them. Really caring professor (he loves stats!)
I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you've never used R before. Every homework needs R and I struggled a lot in the beginning because of this. Homework can take a long time, so start early. His exams this semester are just longer homework. You have a few hours to work on it after he posts the exam, then you turn it in on canvas.
I learned a lot in mathematical statistics. Gustavo is patient and repeats the concepts. Very informative lectures, but you need to read and supplement the Zoom lectures with his extra examples from Canvas and the text. The homework takes time and we have homework every week. I liked all the connections the professor made in class.
Applied Regression and Time Series (M349R) was a cool class. Homework every week. Two exams and a final that includes a project portion for each. We used R for homework, tests and projects. Very nice professor. Clear lectures with great examples and extra files in Canvas.
Dr. Cepparo is very nice and accommodating to his students. You are graded based on homework (textbook & Quest), 4 tests, and 1 final. While there were a lot of homework, the problems were helpful towards the tests and final. Dr. Cepparo's lectures were also very helpful and enjoyable to attend (even at 8 AM)! Overall, he is an amazing professor!
I really enjoyed Dr. Cepparo's lectures since he gave many examples and real-world applications. He also posted prior year's notes covering many of the harder concepts, which was great practice. While homework was lengthy, it was very helpful for exams. He was also super helpful during office hours and caring towards how COVID affected students.
He's a good professor for review, since M408D overlaps with AP Calc BC a lot. I had a bit of trouble when he introduced new material though. He assigns an excessive amount of textbook problems. However, tests were open note and WAY easier than the homework (definitely overprepared), and we had all day to do them, too.
Lectures were informative. Fair exams and long homework assignments. Professor Gustavo is clear during lectures, but I found that going over the Zoom lectures and redoing examples and concepts from class made me understand and finish the homework faster. This class is not easy. I had to look back at my notes from M362K.
Professor Gustavo was very good for this course. We had 5 tests, 5 projects and 11 homework assignments. He broke concepts down in detail and went over proofs of the most important theorems for Math Stat. The homework, extra examples in Canvas and projects provided practice for tests.
Took class during Fall 2020 semester. Cepparo understands the online situation during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Lot of weekely homework assignments (Quest & Textbook) (graded holistically); be prepared to work. Prep for exams during class was mediocre. However, lectures are quite boring and the exams are unnecessarily difficult and weighted greatly.
Dr. Cepparo was a good instructor for M 408D for Fall 2020 during online class, so I can't speak to how he conducts his class after this. His lectures were very clear and the example problems he worked were very helpful for understanding the material. The homework was significant, but it prepared me for the (easier) tests. Very good prof.
Cepparo is very good for Calculus (M408D). He has extra documents in Canvas for practice. He is also very patient and likes questions during office hours and Zoom lectures. Quest and written homework every week and no quizzes!
his class has nothing to do with the homework or exams. very hard to learn in this class and no one has any idea what's going on.
Really funny, the tests are soooo straightforward, but there's a lot of homework - 3 written sections + 20 question quest weekly
Took M408D. His lectures were pretty good and funny. But theres a lot of hw every week (handwritten textbook hw AND Quest every week). Overall pretty decent professor and class except for the workload.
Professor Cepparo is one of my favorite instructors I have taken a class from. He is inspirational and really works to make sure students understand how concepts apply to various fields. The only negative is in the course structure forcing you to learn multivariable quickly due to the focus on series. Additionally the homework is heavy but helpful.
So Dr. Cepparo is a great professor. However, his homeworks in this class are long, they take a couple hours every week. The textbook he uses in this class is great. Dr. Cepparo teaches well, but some of the test content doesn't come from his lectures but it comes from files in the modules instead. Otherwise, he is very lenient, nice, and caring.
Prof Cepparo is obviously really passionate about math and cares a lot for his students, but the course itself is difficult to keep up with. He takes a long time to return grades and there is a lot of homework due weekly.
Cepparo was one of my favorite professors. He's entertaining, incredibly kind, and has a clear passion for mathematics. The homeworks were long, but not too difficult. Most of the course is review from AP Calc BC.
He's hilarious, cordial, and talks about his personal life. He encourages class participation and that people actually understand the material. The class itself? Hard. Quest at first felt like guessing game with some integrals. Written HW is lengthy, but you adapt and it becomes minor after a few weeks. 2 exams, one final, so they're worth a lot.
Tests were all online and all very easy. LOTS of homework but it's basically all you ever need to do in preparation for the exam. If you want an easy A, take Cepparo. However, his explanations, while decent, can sometimes be unclear. He uses confusing metaphors that have nothing to do with math, and he makes many mistakes while teaching.
One of the best professors (probability the best calculus professor). Although attended his lecture early at 8am, I really enjoyed his lectures. Very sweet and funny. Grading was pretty straight forward. Definitely will choose him again for the same class despite the class time.
Incredibly kind & funny guy, but I felt like his lectures were extremely hit or miss - sometimes informative, but a lot of the time he'd just mention things without explaining, but reading the textbook was a good way to supplement. Pretty easy grade-wise, but if you wanna learn everything be prepared to put in a little extra effort
Cepparo's class is very informative and hands-on with R. We went over concepts and predictive algorithms in detail. The assignments, tests and projects are a mix of applied and theory problems. Every assignment uses some R. He is very funny and gets very happy in teaching mode. I reviewed some Zoom lectures to add details to my notes.
Cepparo is funny, engaging, and really cares about what he teaches. He records his lectures and does not require attendance, making the course very manageable to your own schedule. There was a lot of homework due every week, but it helped for the exams.
Pofessor Cepparo was a great lecturer. The class was very empty and quiet since it was an 8 am with no mandatory attendance but he still made it fun. Explains very well and also talks about his life which is nice. He makes funny jokes, sometimes completely off-topic, but his lectures are as enjoyable as any math lecture will be. Highly recommend.
Really amazing professor! I never really went to class tbh (idk if i recommend that, def struggled w HW lol) but it was still a manageable course. There was definitely a lot of HW (both textbook and quest), but it prepares you well for the exams. Exams were open-note and open for 48 hours which was super nice - exams had both FRQ and MC
Easy to get a good grade in this class. He offered a recorded zoom call throughout the whole semester so no need to show up in person, but he's a positive guy so class is enjoyable. He is a bit disorganized so he assigned less homework than stated on the syllabus. Exams are take home and closed note with a large time window to complete.
Absolutely amazing professor! Great lectures! Some people complained about the course, but those people also didn't participate. If you don't do the homework and actually follow the class you will have a hard time. Only take the course if you actually want to learn the stuff - then he will be the best professor you will ever have!!
He was very clear with expectations and lenient when it came to assignments and exams. Lectures are a little difficult to fully grasp sometimes without the proper background in mathematics. I have had him for several classes (M349R, M339G and M378K). Gustavo has passion for math, statistics and data science. Overall great professor.
initially took this class cause of the high rating, but beware of all the homework. this 8 am class killed me. could not focus in class and the homework due on saturday and friday was annoying. all the reviews was during covid time, so now there are in person tests (2 at a time). would not recommend
Sure, there's a lot of homework, but if you're able to understand most of the solutions to the problems then you'll prosper (get into a small study group of 2-3!). Cepparo himself has an awesome and quirky personality, and he'll always do your best to answer your questions. His lectures are engaging, and his tests aren't extraordinarily difficult.
Professor Cepparo was absolutely *perfect* for a first year calculus course. Yes, it will seem a little because it's different than your high school teachers, but trust me, Gustavo is on your side. He loves you all and will curve to oblivion. Partial Credit is given... just do the homeworks/quests and the tests will be 10x easier. INGUSTAVOWETRUST!
Total excitement every time I go to his class. His lectures completely make no sense to me, but I go just to hear his passion. There's a lot of self-learning in his class - I learned everything through the weekly homeworks. Exams were slightly difficult but he grades very very leniently. Definitely will take him again for his other stat classes.
great professor, i'm not a morning person so the 8am was hard but lectures were usually really engaging and helpful, tests are graded with a lot of partial credit, hw is annoying and harder than it needs to be but graded leniently also
"Oh Oh Oh okay wit dat" Super fun prof, made 8 am class much easier to attend. Lots of pretty hard HW but tests are not too bad. Good choice for M408D.
This class was doable only because I had previous calculus experience from Calc BC. People who did not take Calc BC found this class difficult because his lectures consist of only proofs and hardly any example problems so the lectures aren't helpful. If you want to do well you need to do a lot more examples from the textbook than are assigned.
Amazing professor that cares about his teachers and what he teaches. His energy and enthusiasm made the 8AM class a lot easier to attend. If you are able to do the homework and quest with a basic to decent understanding, the tests should be very doable and straight forward. Overall a great teacher and a great class. Pura Vida! Total Freedom!
Goated Prof. He's funny without even trying. Keeps you engaged. Lots of hw that's usually harder than the test and the hw counts towards 40 percent of your grade.
Amazing prof. Made it worth getting up at 8 AM MWF. HW is definitely tough (coming from someone who took BC in HS). Weekly Quest (Online) and Textbook questions. Textbook Qs could be pretty bad. Tests weren't difficult (not nearly as difficult as the HW) and 4 points were added to every test grade. Great at explaining concepts as well.
Gustavo was a very jocular man, who did an exceptional job teaching material. This semester he went back to in-person tests and mandatory attendance; however, if you have taken BC, it is simply just an in-depth review of that, plus some multi-variable Calc - which he gives a good overview of. Now that his class is over, it is TOTAL SADNESS :(
Cepparo was able to keep his 8 am classes engaged while teaching calculus. His lectures are informative and straightforward. He is humourous and easy to talk to. Most of the difficulty came with Homework. There is a lot of homework, but it is 40% of your grade. Exams are pretty easy and straightforward. A lot of partial credit. Emails are slow.
There is a decent amount of homework, but it is good practice to get good at the math :D! Even though his lectures were at 8 am, they were still fun and enjoyable. He was definitely a character! Tests were on the easy side when compared to practice tests. He also had extra credit points at the end of the sem. Highly recommend this class! LUOL >:D!
Professor Cepparo gives very straightforward, entertaining lectures. He moves quickly, but other campus resources like CalcLab and office hours help. Each week, there's free response textbook homework and about 20 multiple choice questions. Highly recommend this professor, great at teaching calculus and his office hours were so good
I found him to be an average professor. I personally felt he gives too much hw, especially since I am a CS major. Many times, the stuff he taught in class are MUCH easier examples of the hw, which doesn't really help. He does give a lot of extra credit though to boost your grade, such as dropping the lowest midterm. He was pretty funny though.
One of the best professor I have ever had, made an 8am lecture . As long as you keep up with the homework you will do fine in the class.
He is very enthusiastic about stats and very kind. We had 9 homeworks(they use R) and many due dates were pushed back. Exams 1 and 2 were also pushed back. 40% of each exam was take home. Most of the exam material was in lecture and textbook but some was only in lecture. Very lenient grader. Hard to not make an A if you show up and do all work. :)
(There's a word count sorry) The elephant in the room: Yes this is an 8 AM. This was bad because my major had a lot of projects that led to me staying up late. That being said, Cepparo brought his passion and humor to the 8 am classes, making them worth attending. HW is long. Quest was easy. Exams were way easier than HW and mostly number problems.
Gustavo is a very good professor. Written homework every week (8 to 10 hard problems). Quest every week (15 to 20 problems). Exams have two parts. His office hours and Calc-Lab are very helpful.
HW heavy: my most time-intensive class. Written HW is crazy hard but quest HW is miles easier (and midterms are modified quest HW). It's an 8 am but he's super engaging and has a great personality so it's not too bad. I suggest reading the textbook and going to office hours because it was hard for me to learn only from lectures.
I love Dr. Cepparo! For an 8am, he has amazing lectures with his great personality and enthusiasm for mathematics. Grades consists of written HW, quest HW, exams, plus attendance. Overall written HW were the hardest but office hours help, plus he explains things well! He has a his own personal variation of sounds he makes and it's so entertaining!
Professor Cepparo is so fun and caring, and a phenomenal lecturer! he made an 8am calculus class far less tedious than it could have been with his fun stories and jokes. 4 exams + a final, but each test is split between an at home portion and the in class portion, so the grade averages out better (since multiple choice is a KILLER). overall 10/10
He's the best professor I've had at UT so far. Dr. Cepparo makes calculus interesting; yes, the class comes with a lot of HW(2 per week) but the exams are easy if you practice the quest homework. I would recommend everyone to take Gustavo, this class makes you learn a lot without being crazy hard.
One of the best math professors I have had! Lots of homework (around 30 problems weekly), but grades leniently on the written portion (office hours help). Test are half take home and half in person (helps with average). Attendance is mandatory, but his lectures are very engaging!
He was worth taking before he changed his syllabus. The amount of homework he assigns being only 28% of your grade compared to the 50% it used to be is egregious, his lectures are unorganized and he doesn't really teach the material that will be on the test, M408D is hard. He does his best to make it easy, one of the better math professors.
Quest was easy, textbook homework was hard. His exams reflect quest, not textbook hw. His lectures are well done. Great personality.
Amazing lecuters. Quest and written homework due each week, but the written hw is SUPER HARD. Exams are also super hard but are based off of quest. Gave lots of extra credit though and genuinely cared about his students. He took the time to learn each of our names even if we had never spoken to him at all.
Cepparo is a great guy, is respecting and cares about students. Easy to communicate with. His lectures are 50/50 for me since some of them I understood but others I wish his teaching could've been better. His quest homework was extremely helpful and exactly like the test. Spent about 3-5 hours per week on work.
Has very good lectures as well as clear recording of them. The class is very straightforward and systematic in its structure. He himself is a funny guy and caring for his students and while there are a lot of assignments, each assignment is worth less by itself and he drops or curves grades for everyone.
He is such a caring, funny professor who really makes sure you learn the material. Tests are low-stress, with a pre-lude on Quest counting for 50% of your test grade and the other 50% of the test in person the next day. I really enjoyed that format. Tests are also much easier than homework.
Gustavo is clear, funny and caring. The exams are fair and have a little extra credit. One written homework and a Quest per week. He is very helpful and patient during office hours. Nice comments about finance and inflation from South America.
Tests are MC and pretty easy and the in class portion is changed from 50% to 65% this year. The take home part is also MC and is worth 35%. Lectures mainly consist of practice problems and questions are taken throughout. Quest MC HW every week is pretty easy. The written HW is straight from the textbook and is a bit more difficult, but can be done.
Outstanding professor-has interesting lectures and is good at explaining. There's a lot of homework in my opinion, but it really prepares you for the tests. Tests have a take-home portion and if you miss one problem you still get a 100, both of which make the tests less stressful.
Really caring and enthusiastic professor, which is great considering his lectures are at 8 AMs. Gives out lots of HW and the written portion can be especially tedious, but it's weighted nicely and graded easily. Tests are purely from Quest, very easy to know the content/what to study. Awesome professor, just stock up on caffeine for 8 AM exams!
He is by far one of my favorite professors here at UT. M329F could have been a difficult class, but he made it easy to understand through the examples shown in class. If you study well, and you do many practice problems from the textbook, and often go to his office hours, you are going to do well! He is very fun and enthusiastic! Amazing. 10/10
EASY with Calc BC experience. Quest: easy. Written HW: textbook q's, more difficult, but still easy to get 90-100. He started to assign fewer as the semester ended. Exams were easy-medium. All exams were based on Quest. 5 midterms 12% each. Each midterm: in person 10 q's (65%) and take home 6 q's 35%. Final exam was noncumulative.
Great lectures. Fast-paced but will answer any questions you have. Very nice and funny. Tests are directly based off UTQuest HW/lecture notes, and consist of an in-class part and take-home part. They are lighter than HW, but do not underestimate them. HW can be very hard, ESPECIALLY textbook HW - discussions/TXTBK reading helped a lot.
Amazing lectures. Heavy testing. Five midterms and a final. Written homework and Quest.
Great professor for this course! He was so funny and kept the lectures very engaging. I liked how this course was structured: 5 exams with 35% online and 65% in class. Lots of homework but helped me learn the materials. The lectures are not recorded therefore you have to attend to get the notes but I did not mind. great professor and class.
Cepparo is the best professor I have had at UT. His teaching is so clear and he makes each lesson engaging. The content and tests can be hard, however he takes questions straight from quest, so using the reviews there really help. He is very generous with curves too, so if you bomb a couple in class tests, you can still get a decent grades.
He kept me engaged and want to learn despite his class being Calculus at 8 AM. His homeworks consist of quest problems and textbook problems, which can be challenging but is doable with office hours/TAs. The class is very organized. Prof Cepparo is also very hilarious. Definitely recommend him and would definitely take him again if I could!
Great lecturer and makes you want to come to class every day. Very friendly grading policies and always willing to answer questions or help out
Cepparo is a nice guy but not a great calc professor. His lessons often leave many confused about how to do the homework. But once you figure the homework out, the tests are extremely easy. Grades in the class are high but understanding is low. Two homeworks every week, written and quest, written is hard and not usually needed for tests.
I loved Cepparo's teaching style, though messy and not well organized, he still managed to explain most concepts well. There were many exams, both in-person and take-home, but the curves were life-saving for me. Weekly textbook and quest hw which was very time-consuming but doable. Lectures and discussions both have mandatory attendance.
Cepparo is a fun and engaging professor, though the workload can be heavy. The lectures are worth attending, and using resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook helps with the challenging homework. Overall, a rewarding class if you're willing to put in the effort.
This man is the funniest professor I have had. He made going to an 8am enjoyable. He cares about his students and does try to know student's names. His tests aren't the worst, there is an online and in person portion. They are doable, but some of the integrals are a pain and it's all on Quest.
His lectures are pretty helpful though sometimes confusing. I stopped going in the second half and was still able to keep up. He is so funny and really wants his students to do well. Each exam, even the final, had a take home open-note portion. His midterms were pretty easy too. Easy A if you put in the bare minimum amount of effort.
Great class and funny professor. 5 midterms, each 35% online and 65% in class. 1 question is written and everything else is multiple choice. Homeworks are quite long and take a bit of time, sometimes they are difficult. Tests are very easy, much easier than homework. No quizzes, and discussion sections are just for you to work on your homework.
Cepparo is genuinely an amazing professor, his tests are partially take-home and the content itself isn't hard. Definitely one of the best M408D professors you can have, the key to doing well on exams is quest review assignments, many test questions are pulled directly from there.
Great guy, very understanding and kind. Problem sets were not that hard and the exams were very fair (the review was super close to the exam). Grading is not too harsh and is generous with extra credit and partial credit. Attendance not mandatory but hes a good lecturer and you can learn a ton from going to class. Easy A/A-
He's a funny and caring professor. I found his lectures slightly confusing, but he's a much better alternative to most M408D professors. I struggled with 9 am lectures, and there's a lot of Quest and written HW. The written HW was difficult, but tests were based on Quest and also had a take-home portion, so it's not too difficult to end with an A.
Dr. Cepparo was a funny and engaging professor that made 8:00AM classes worth going to. Although attendance is not mandatory, he doesn't record lectures so it's important to go to classes to not miss any important information. The class is based around textbook homework and simple quest problems. If you put in the effort, an A is easily attainable.
Cepparo was amazing. I love his little phrases and was super super funny. Tests were EXTREMELY easy for the course content and overall was an amazing course.
Very good teacher. This guy was so nice, and despite only going to class for the exams (classes were recorded), he always addressed me by name. He was a funny guy and his notes were always well organized and accessible.
Happiness with that? ok ok perfect! No but seriously he is amazing, really hard homework but I kinda liked it, it improves my mathematical maturity. Test is extremely easy so getting an A is easy. The class was a highlight of my first semester and made me feel that I'm good at something for once.
I never rmp so be warned. Cepparo is very difficult to get in touch with. He will ignore your emails. My friend died, my mom was in the hospital, and my car kept giving out trying to get to class and could've died. He's "nice", but he could've helped me. He didn't and now I have to spend more money to move on, which I don't have. For 2 points.
He teaches concepts really well, but if you zone out or miss class, you'll be completely lost. He also engages with students during office hours and applies a 35 point curve on exams. He's also hilarious and the source of many funny (and sometimes unhinged) stories and "Cepparisms."
LOVE gustavo! Such a good professor with clear guidelines on what you need to get an A. Five midterms (12% each) + one final (16%) + homework. Replaces the lowest midterm with final. Although it is test-heavy, midterms 2 and 3 are over the same concepts, and same with midterms 4 and 5. DO QUEST because they are super similar to exams!
Professor Cepparo is an excellent professor he is engaging and funny. Lots of homework. The quest/written are difficult. However, half of the tests are online and the other half are in person. Those are really the only grades that you will receive. No quizzes and If you pay attention in the lectures you should be able to get an A in the class.
Professor Cepparo is an amazing professor! The course isn't easy but you'll be ok as you attend lectures and go to office hours when you need help. Cepparo is super easy to get in touch with for any questions, concerns, or have a conversation with. He will always greet you with a smile and radiates positivity.
Professor Cepparo is an amazing professor. Highly recommend.
Cepparo is a really great teacher, he very early on tells you what to expect. It was five midterms, with the second and third being on the same concepts, same with fourth and fifth. The topics are hard, but he explains it in a pretty good way. Weekly homework, one written and one on quest. Study quest for exams since many questions are similar.
He makes already easy material nearly impossible to receive below an A. Take him for M408D.
Cepparo is one of the nicest professors at UT, but he severely lacks the ability to teach. The class consists of him doing a proof of why a technique works, and then moving on to the next topic. Professor Leonard is the only reason I succeeded in this class. If you are familiar with Calc 2, this will be fairly easy for you.
Prof. Cepparo was always very funny and engaging during his lectures, he cares about his students and makes his lectures fun to go to. The lectures and material might not be super clear, but you'll be fine. Definitely better than some of the other M408D prof. 5 tests & one final w 30% of grade online (curve) and 70% in person (2 frq & abt 8 mc)
This guy was the funniest professor I have ever had. He makes having calc at 8:00 AM not suck. He's good at capturing people's attention by making jokes about the problems. The only weird thing is that there are back to back tests on the same topics. Overall, great class, would def recommend this professor.
I've had him twice and cannot recommended him enough. brilliant person and professor and funniest man at UT
Dr. Cepparo is an incredible mathematician and teacher. There is a reason why students love him. He is highly accessible outside of class during office hours, which are once a week and nearly four hours long, so there's no excuse not to get help from him. If you commit your time and energy to this class, you will learn calculus deeply.
Prof Cepparo is so nice and funny. Genuinely cares about his students in/out of class. There is alot of homework but doing them helps with the exams. No attendance grade, but no lectures are posted online, so show up to class. It's been a year since I took his class, but I still see him and catch up with him.
Ceparro is such an amazing professor! His lectures were hilarious and actually motivated me to go to class. I felt his tests were incredibly fair and similar to the Quest homeworks. Definitely go to discussion sections (I had an amazing TA) and study for the tests. Take him for Calc 2!!
my boy gus is SO FUNNY! seriously, he is so kind and hilarious and always has these wacky analogies to make math interesting. however, this class is SO HARD! the content is extremely difficult if you're not super confident in calc 1 and moves insanely fast. also, there is insane amounts of homework and even more tests (6 total). it's a lot of work.
Sweetest professor I've ever met. His lectures are super intuitive and easy to follow. His on-paper homework(as opposed to his quest homework) was a bit lengthy, but really helped prepare you for the tests(which aren't complex or difficult at all if you do the work). The only issue I ran into was that the class was at 8 a.m., so i slept in a lot.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PROF! He is so funny and great at explaining lectures. He makes learning calc 2 entertaining, however he can go fast sometimes. Calc 2 is already a hard topic to take but he ensures you know how to identify and do it on the exams. His exams are made from the quests and frq from his lecures sooo... take that as you will.
The class lectures were always recorded so you don't have to go to class as long as you keep up with the lectures. The exams are also 30% online and 70% in person. There are 5 exams and 1 final that is worth 78% of the grade. The rest is homework on quest and textbook problems. The exams are mostly from quest so just practice that.
Literally the best 408D professor. Exams are light, lectures are funny and you actually learn stuff, he cares about his students and loves cracking jokes with students if you visit his office hours. 10/10
8 AMs are rough, but Prof Cepparo made it worth it! He does a good job explaining tough concepts and is open to questions and feedback. There is regular (basically weekly) hw, so don't fall behind! Also tests are back to back (e.g. test 2 on Friday and test 3 the following Monday) so you really have to make sure you know your stuff. Def take him!
He's an excellent lecturer and a genuinely kind person who even remembers my name. The homework load is standard for the math department—after all, math requires practice. The exams are a bit challenging but entirely manageable.
Gustavo is an amazing prof. and wants you to succeed! He makes class fun by telling stories/jokes. Exam content is mainly from class topics, so be sure to attend/watch - don't just use the book. Office hours are helpful, especially if you ask him what kind of Qs will be on exams, he will tell you. If you show up and do the work, you will do well.
Cepparo is such a funny and kind professor and his lectures are super thorough. Tests are super reasonable, just show up to class and do the hw! Def take him for M408D
He's a funny teacher and makes the 8 a.m's a bit more bearable. However, I personally found his method of explanation hard to understand as he uses references that just didn't click with me. Also, toward the end of the semester he teaches content that's different from other 408D teachers that's a large chunk of your final. Still a good teacher.
Amazing professor who cares deeply about learning the material and preparing for the next class rather than just getting an A in his class. Some of the content is more challenging than other M 408D classes but I didn't find it to be too difficult. Make sure to take advantage of Quest practice problems to prepare for the homework. Happiness!
