Even though his exams are really hard, if you know your stuff super well you'll do fine. He's always there when you need help and he's really nice. All around good teacher because he actually makes class interesting and somewhat fun!
don't take his class... exams are hard and are in such detail, not to mention a page long for one multiple choice questions... you use the etxbook for bascially background and he teaches past research that is sooo boring... BUT he is a good prof, easy to talk to and is interactive to help you get through 3 hours of class... material sucks though.
Great prof and always there to provide extra help. Extremely flexible with meeting times. Multiple choice exams that are brutal! You really have to know your stuff because your tested on every aspect (text, lectures, and extra readings)
Guy is sooooo awesome! He always makes sure everyone is on the same page before moving on to another study. He ALWAYS stays after class to talk to people. He's easy to understand and even easier to get along with. This man knows his**** inside and out. His exams are hard though. And the material people find even harder.
This prof is amazing. If he tells you something is going to be on the exam - it will be. His exams are easy, as he realy prepares you in class. If you end up with a small class with him, it is really fun. Took this course in the summer, where the workload is double, and still ended up with an A+
Guy was a great prof and made the material as interesting and as understandable as he could. I really enjoyed his class and found his tests challenging but pretty fair.
Guy really cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. He made the topic somewhat interesting even though its a really boring subject. His exams arent the easiest things in the world, but not hard either.
He was extremely helpful. He really goes into great detial which benefits later for Psyc2002!
I love cognition but I dreaded Guy's class every week. 95% of the lecture content is just looking at studies. His exams are all multiple choice, and he writes questions in a way that is much harder than they should be I would NOT RECCOMMEND him...unless you love learning every detail about studies.
one of the most unhelpful professors carleton has to offer.prolly he is good with cognition but this guy should NOT be teaching research methods!
Amazing teacher. I had no interested in Cognition before this seminar. He was extremely helpful and would go out of his way to make sure everyone received the best possible mark. his papers were tricky, but as long as you asked for help, you will end up with an A. He even made himself available outside of class and office hours.
He's a good prof, hard midterms and final tho.
Research Methods is a boring class but he makes it as interesting as he can... mainly with his humor. He seems like hes really easy going which may fool you into thinking hes a slacker prof but hes not. He gives you as many hints as he can and as much help without spoon feeding you! You have to know your stuff! Make sure you study
Would NOT take another course with this prof...his lectures dont follow the text at all, but we are expected to know both text and lecture material. Prof is difficult to understand, clarity is a problem, doesnt speak loud enough. Worst psych class I have ever taken and I'm a 4th year student!!!
I enjoy his class, he is clear, and seems to care. I would recommend his course!
this prof is terribs! he tries to make things interesting with bad jokes, has tricky MC exams and is so difficult to understand! i thought i knew material until he would try and explain and make it so much worse! people who liked this prof are cracked. dont make the same mistake i did, switch profs if you can!
Great professor. While the material is fairly challenging, his tests are extremely fair as long as you know the material inside and out. Extremely willing to help you out if you don't get it. True he doesn't follow the textbook, but he does tell you almost exactly what will be on the test from the book. Not easy, but if you study you'll do fine.
Good prof. Excited about what he is teaching. MT and exams are heavy on small study details since there are so many of them you need to be very thorough. Overall he is good. Tries to keep you interested and learn names when he can. Only negative is the preciseness of his exams
He is a good professor. His charisma and humour keeps my attention from fading. He is also super sexy ;)
Okay this course is kind of useless. Exams are mainly based on lectures so you need to attend. Prof always asks if we have questions but when a student has one he either says he does't know or he is a little defensive. All the lectures are about experiments and than the next lecture is about how the last experiment was wrong.
Least engaged professor I've had so far. Checked out in November.
Guy is a wonderful prof. Although I found his tests to be more challenging than my other psych classes, if you study well, then you will do well. The lecture material focuses on studies, which can be a little lame at times. Guy wants his students to be successful. He teaches you how to learn, study and memorize in order to do well.
Great summer prof (although he keeps you the full three hours). He doesn't just care about imparting material but also about helping his students prepare for their futures in psychology. Extremely knowledgeable, great exams, easy A+ mini-assignments. I didn't care for the subject matter but I definitely recommend taking this class with him.
I like the fact that he didn't just ramble material from the textbook. He took the time and energy to explain points, play cheesy '80s music to keep us awake during the night classes, and use examples of research (including his own, of course). All in all, a great professor. :)
Guy is a great prof, so long as you don't count on getting out of class early. He does keep you the full time, but he is an entertaining prof. His exams are easy if you study for them and put in the work (he doesn't try any nasty trick questions). He really only used the textbook for definitions, charts, and graphs.
Good prof, tries to make material interesting for such a boring class.Go to class and you will do well. make sure to do the readings. Exams are average, sometimes questions are too wordy.
Best prof I've had in psychology in 4 years at Carleton. Every class was interesting. Very reasonable guy. Actually went out into the crowd and broke the 4th wall. It was like the opposite of those crumby profs who stay behind the desk and read the slides. Awesome class, mad respect to Guy for taking it seriously (but not too seriously)
I have mixed feelings about Guy. I found his lectures incredibly boring, although he tried to make jokes and be interactive it was hard to make it through the class. His exams were challenging and focused on small details about studies we looked at. The only good thing about this class was the 2 easy mini assignments and bonus marks.
Worst prof I've ever had in my life. I worked hard for this class but did not end up with what I've expected. His questions are super confusing and some questions are too long and can't understand what he is asking. His class is so boring and he doesn't even care if students pay attention to him.
Exellent prof. Makes class content interesting but exams are tricky and have confusing wording. Also extremely long questions.
Good prof, attendance is not mandatory but he does occasionally give bonus marks to anyone in the classroom. His class also has SONA study like bonus marks, making a high grade easier.
Guy is a great prof who is engaging during class, and has funny exam questions. He gives bonus marks for class attendance - it's very important to him. If you go to class, you'll ace it. Fair testing - not just definitions but challenges you to apply concepts. I'll take another one of his classes any day.
worst professor ever!!very confusing, boring class and not helpful at all
This teacher is amazing. Highly engaging and always looking to captivate the students mind. Go to class as he give bonus marks for attendance and gives away easy questions on the multiple choice exams. Also the book does come in handy for the mini assignments. Would take again.
Terrible prof. Painful jokes. EXTREMELY unhelpful. If he doesn't like your question or doesn't want to answer it he just won't respond to your email. His exams/assignments are fair but assignments are excessive and exams are wordy. Adds way too much unnecessary writing in exams (some single multiple choice question take up an entire page).
Guy is a funny & tries his best to make this boring course entertaining. The course is pretty simple, if you go to class and study exactly what he tells you from the textbook you'll do well! However, one down side I do have to say that he's vague with answering questions on assignments and may make you look stupid.Overall, he's a good prof.
Guy is trying to put a pulse into a very, very dry course. He is not succeeding. His lectures are long and they cover more jokes and tangents than actual course material. Sometimes he does make a good point, but it takes him 12 a lecture to formulate it and the other 12 to clarify it.
I hated this class. He tries to make it fun but his jokes are really horrible. His exams are very unfair and question style is very confusing. He doesn't answer questions very well, just confuses you more. Doesn't answer email. Better take this with someone else.
Great prof who keeps the subject interesting, even if it is Stats. Very clear when it comes to terms and theories. If you must take PSYC 2001, Guy is a great professor to introduce you to Stats and won't leave you feeling overwhelmed.
Such a great Guy! (Pun intended!) Exams are MC, easy and clear. Textbook's key terms are tested, he clearly tells you exactly what will be on the tests. Makes material interesting! Always willing to chat after class or help you with ANYTHING. How to study: make simple notes from the slides, and define the key terms in the text Easy A+
Was dreading research methods, he made it interesting!
Such an amazing professor, he tells you exactly what to study from the textbook (saves a lot of time) and his exams are easy if you go to class! Gives students a lot of opportunities for bonus marks. He teaches in a way to engage the students, so its easy to follow along, and will reexplain things if he thinks students aren't understanding it!
I found his class to be very informative and the exams were fairly easy, as long as you studied. He gives you exactly what you need to know for the exams, which really helps a lot! The lectures weren't always really interesting, but he tried to make the material as interesting as possible. Good prof!
If you go to class and actually pay attention you are GOLDEN. He gives a lot of opportunities for bonus marks, which is unreal. Hands down the most fair prof at Carleton.
Great prof. Very knowledgeable about his field. There are no surprises on thee tests.
Really passionate about the course, and really does care about his students. Was a pleasure to be in the class and would definitely take another course taught by him.
Guy is my favourite professor, I've taken multiple classes with him. He's hilarious and loves to interact with the class (scream, clap, swear, whatever works to grab your attention). He does a lot of in-class demonstrations and lets you know when info is important (exam material). He's really thorough in what he talks about and is big on attendance
Professor Lacroix is a very enthusiastic prof who has an in depth knowledge of his field. His exams are fair, but will be difficult if you have not attended lecture. He gives clear instructions on the exam content, pay attention. He is a great prof I highly recommend his classes.
His lectures are way easier than his tests you really have to know definitions and differences instead of a vague understanding. recommend taking this in summer school if you want a great mark.
Guy is an incredible person all together. Especially for his seminar he will do everything he can to make sure you go into your thesis prepared. He will pick and every little detail that needs improvement and give you direct advice. He is honest almost to a fault, but this is something I personally admire. Inspirational human.
Guy is hilarious! He knows how brutal research methods material is but he does his absolute best to make it entertaining. The games he plays and the stories he tells in class will come back on your midterms and final! Attendance is a must for this class. Pay attention he will straight up tell you what he is going to test you on. He is super smart!
The best of the best. Expect to work hard and expect to be rewarded for that hard work.
Guy manages to turn what would normally be a dry, boring course into something exciting. By and large, the greatest teacher I've ever had.
Guy is easily the best prof I've had throughout my university career. Unlike others, he won't sugar coat anything and really prepares you to succeed. Do not take this class if you want to slide by and get the credit. You should definitely take this class if you want to improve your writing and analytical skills while looking at fascinating research
Great prof! I thought research methods was going to be boring, but he made it more interesting. He likes to interact with students. His exams are difficult especially if you didn't study much.
Easily one of the best prof's I've ever had! Lecture's were informative and fun, even at 8:30am. Guy wants to see his students do well and if you put in the work there's no reason you shouldn't.
Really good at taking a boring class and making it interesting. Cares about his students and gives good advice for the future. Interesting lectures, he's engaging and funny. His exams are hard if you don't study, but the excel assignments are easy and relevant to the course. Overall highly recommend taking his classes, he knows his stuff!
I went into this class with low expectations.I was pleasantly surprised by Guy and how engaging he was! If you go to class and listen to him lecture, there is no reason why you can't do well. I would say 80% of his exams are based solely on his lectures. The other 20% is usually on definitions from the textbook that overlap (at times) with lectures
One of my absolute favourite profs! His lectures are super interesting and he's clearly very knowledgable. He loves getting into discussions with students which keeps things fresh. His tests are hard so make sure to study and take good notes, but you'll do well if you put the work in.
Probably my favourite prof so far! Very entertaining and extremely good at teaching. Also very fair and likes to make sure you're on the right track and know what you're doing for the sake of knowing, not just so you can pass and be done with the material. I would definitely take one of his courses again!
Guy is really invested in his work, which makes his lectures so enjoyable. He has a good sense of humour and his exams are really nicely organized, which makes it much easier to do (But only if you studied and went to all of his lectures). But he was behind in his lectures, which was a little frustrating.
Really good prof. Makes lecture enjoyable. If you do your readings on time you will thank yourself when it comes to the tests. Easy tests as long as you know the terms that need to be studied (which he posts).
Read your textbook, go to lectures, take notes, and study! Assessments were quizzes & exams with M/C q's, but they were difficult questions. Prepare! Bonus marks available. Accessible outside of class. Funny. Likes to be interactive in class. Detailed lectures - don't skip! Overall great prof! Would take again.
Super friendly! Comes hard with the dad jokes and even roasted himself during lecture, I appreciate a good prof with added humour. Tests are hard. Will not tolerate people who slow down the class. Easy to talk to in emails or after class. Very attractive in a French Canadian dad hot kind of way.
Guy knows his stuff, and expects students to know what he knows. He makes students seem unintelligent when they ask questions, and doesn't answer emails. Smart prof, but wouldn't take a class with him again.
Really great guy. Puts himself into the teaching. Very personable and friendly to approach. Clear and concise teaching style. It was his first time teaching PSYC1001 when I had him and he did an awesome job. Half and half between his lecture slides and textbook work. Lectures weren't boring and he really made expectations of the course clear.
Made us buy a more expensive and different textbook from all the other research methods classes and only puts like 5 questions on the exams from the text. Makes students feel like they should know the information before he teaches it. He laughs at students when they ask questions that he finds easy.
Focuses on small details from studies we talked about in class. Doesnt test on the bigger concepts. Makes really long and confusing multiple choice questions, and then gets mad at the class when the average is low.
If you are a student who likes to communicate with the prof and TA, don't take a class with Guy. He doesn't answer emails, and his TA is rude. Neither one of them were willing to help me during the course, and made me feel like I was bothering them when I went to them for help.
I hated the tests, but the labs were fun and interesting. I found the tests to be difficult and very long.
If you get his humor his jokes are hillarious. Nice and friendly. I only had to email him once during the semester and he replied promptly. Exams are easy, if you study and show up to class. He points out which slides will be on the exam. His exams are lecture based. Textbook is handy for vocab, so yes, you'll need to read it.
If your wise you should take this class with another professor. Very tough exam
Tough course. I took it I the summer so the lectures were super congested with material. Respect to prof on trying to make them interesting and fun. Can't say he was a great prof but maybe it's because I really didn't like the class. Prepare to pay attention and study a lot. Good luck!
Lots of quizzes that sneak up on you when you're already busy with other work. Unlike other profs, in this class you cannot boost your mark anyway besides doing well on the tests. The quizzes are open book and still very difficult. Used to love psych, now I hate it.
Great Prof, explains concepts very clearly. The exams are 70% based on lectures and 30% based on readings. The questions are very specific so missing class is asking for a failing grade. Overall, just do your job as a student, and this prof will make your life easier.
Honestly, I really liked this professor. Not only did he explain everything really well. But also he genuinely was a funny professor. Also, for the people saying the quizzes were too much, should be thankful, cause there were no assignments, essays, or any of that sort of crap. Just plain applying knowledge. Made me like psychology as a course too!
This course is content heavy, but his exams are not super in-depth and he gives quite a few free answers if you pay attention in lectures. Would definitely take his courses again.
Lectures are composed only of studies, barely any actual conceptual knowledge. I get that studies are important to psych but c'mon. Asking questions about the graphs of results he includes in his slides on the exams is ridiculous and a very lazy question. Will probably have to retake 2700 with a different prof to actually learn anything.
His evaluations are based 50% on textbook 50% on lecture material. Be sure to remember specific examples given. Lectures can he quite dull but he explains material fairly thoroughly. Minimal effort required to get an A.
Guy is an excellent professor with an extremely thorough knowledge of the material. His exams are tough, and they pay attention to the small details of studies he presents in lectures. But, he's very clear in his grading criteria, and expectations, and is good for dropping some hints. If you miss lectures you're screwed. He's hilarious too.
Guy is amazing. He is clear on his grading criteria. The exam is reading heavy and if you skip class, you really will fail because reading the textbook sometimes won't make any sense (at least for me). He's funny and he really love teaching.
Good things come in small packages. Read the book. Watch the lecture. If you don't suck, his class won't.
he is a good guy
Toughest intro class ive taken. So many broad themes to remember. Guy will also quiz/test you on quizes prior to teaching you about topic. Dont take his class if you want a good grade.
Guy's clear first week of his expectations for the semester. There are online quizes once a week solely based on textbook. The questions did get difficult but the quizes ensured that students were ontrack through out the semester. For finals and midterms, Guy clearly lays out everything that is on the exam. Go to the lectures and read, youll pass.
He likes to argue with students in front of 400+ people. There are weekly open book online quizzes that 99% of students struggle to get over a 60 at because the questions have zero relevance to the text or lectures. I hate him with a burning passion. I couldn't stomach sitting through his lectures looking at him. Rude and cocky.
pretty rude prof I have ever taken
Everything is clearly outlined before the tests which helps for studying and lets you know if there is any overlap of material. Great prof for the course.
He is a great instructor that has a great sense of humour- if you understand it. we have had several incredibly rude students who have made my blood boil with the lack of respect, he fires of a quick retort and moves along. It is very heavy reading and if you fall behind in it good luck to you on the exams. Keeps up with the workload your golden.
He's funny but professional. The course was hard. He outlines exactly what will be on the exams, number of questions on lecture and textbook material. I found that the lectures did not line up with the readings though. So you do need to read the textbook before the exam, otherwise you will not be able to answer the textbook questions on the exam.
Hands down one of the best profs I've had so far. Guy goes to full extent to ensure that students understand the lecture material being discussed even if it puts him behind. The course isn't textbook heavy, but know your stuff. He's very clear in the exam material, if he says you'll be tested on it, expect it to be there.
Took this class during the summer term to catch up on my minor is psych. I took the course online and watched each class live. All the exams were multiple choice. You will be tested on lecture material and textbook material separately, but often these overlap so you may be tested on the same thing twice. For text: just read key work definitions.
Very fun guy. Makes the night class much more enjoyable.
Im in my first year at Carleton and I have to say, Guy Lacroix made my first impression of university amazing. One of the best teachers I have ever had!
Did not enjoy his class much. He spent way too much time getting upset at our class over like 2 or 3 people not paying attention. Also found that he got distracted easily and went on unimportant tangents. I basically taught myself the material from the textbook.
One of my favourite profs. Great teacher, very funny, and he really organizes the course with clear instructions about grading and how to do well. Chapters are lengthy, 8 mandatory open book quizzes but gets rid of lowest 2. Make sure you understand the concepts rather than just memorize the terms. Do the reading, attend the lectures & you'll pass.
Great prof, very engaging fun lectures. Textbook is mandatory for the quizzes. It's essential to attend lectures as well. Very generous grading scheme, everything is multiple choice. Lectures, what you are being quizzed on, even the test question origin (from book or class) are very clear and well structured. His teaching style maximizes learning.
Very entertaining Prof, midterm and final were both very straightforward and he tells you how to prepare for it. Will probably have to do a good amount of studying but you'll definitely do well if you do study.
Guy Lacroix is my favourite prof. He's a funny and tries to make his lectures as interesting as possible. He uses lots of funny anecdotes and engaging demonstrations. I will say that he is a bit egotistical and not everyone likes him. But if you're like me and values a prof that tries to makes 3 hour lectures bearable, he's the prof for you.
Had a lot of quizzes, but they were well-worded and directly from the textbook. Very funny and knows what he is talking about.
Found this class very organized and clear cut with grading. You really get out what you put in. He made lectures very easy to understand and the tests were based very clear off the readings. Plus all readings were under 40 pages a week. Loved this class and would def take it again. Great teacher.
Guy Lacroix is one of my favourite professors in Carleton. He makes everything interesting and relatable. Every week I left the lecture room with a full understanding of concepts and I never really wanted to skip class because it's always fun and engaging.
Guy's lectures were honestly pretty engaging given the material. He had a good attitude coming into the class and made it more bearable for everyone. In addition to this, he genuinely was a good teacher and explained the content well. He's definitely very passionate about his job. He is harsh about his deadlines, so do your work on time/early.
Lectures were a lot of irrelevant story-telling and he was often behind in the material scheduled for that week. Very strict with deadlines but it is clearly laid out ahead of time, which is great. No sympathy or tolerance for problems. Material comes from a good mix of lectures and reading. Very arrogant with a self-inflated ego. Not my favourite.
Guy is an awesome person, he's caring of his students and funny, and tried his best to make sure lecture isn't too heavy. He's strict, doesn't tolerate problems, and is tough to talk to during office hours.
He has incredibly tough exams, when preparing ensure you have every small detail even if it was only mentioned briefly, the topic can show up in the exam. What may show up is, group/class experiments and their outcomes, the extra reading material besides the lecture, the textbook, all topics covered in lectures. Good luck yall!
Lectures include a lot of what seems like fluff but little aspects of it will be on the exam. The midterm questions were worded weirdly and left everyone irritated with how confusing it was. I think I took more time understanding the question than thinking about the answer. Also graphs you learn about for little to no time will be on exams.
Try your best to find another prof for this class. This prof gives 50 pages of textbook to read every week, provides no notes or any help on what we read. The quizzes for each chapter are impossible, his goal is for you to fail. His lectures have nothing to do with the chapters of the week. He is unhelpful and arrogant.
Guy is a great prof. He really likes teaching this class. The weekly quizzes are very easy to complete but the lab was a bit annoying. the midterm and final were hard and he makes it clear too. pay attention to the lectures and understand important concepts in textbook to do well. lectures are not boring they are interesting.
Interesting class but the professor made the midterm and exam unnecessarily difficult and would respond to student emails in a condescending matter. He was not approachable and i have many classmates who would agree.
I had Professor Lacroix for my very first PSYC class, and he's the reason I decided to minor in it. His tests are not easy, but it pushes you to truly understand the material rather than just memorize it. He is very explicit about his expectations, and clearly outlines what you need to know.
There isnt much good to say about this professor. If you enjoy memorizing EVERYTHING, teaching yourself, learning about two different subjects, and not having a teacher who is flexible or understanding and makes you feel stupid, well Guy is the one for you! I lecture content is dry, long and tests are confusing abs poorly worded.
Beware, this class is not easy. Exams are unfairly hard, and lecture material is very dry. You are expected to MEMORIZE EVERYTHING. If you enjoy teaching yourself, not having a flexible professor, and enjoy reading 50+ pages a week for quizzes, then Guy is your professor! You are graded on 2 EXTREMELY HARD exams, 10 quizzes and a lab. Good luck!
10 quizzes and one reasonable lab plus two very unreasonable exams worth 30% each of your grade. Lectures covered a lot of experiments. Exams were nothing I'd ever seen before - thought I was well-prepared but there were loads of charts & graphs, and bizarrely worded questions most of us couldn't understand, let alone answer properly. Regret this.
I love psychology but this class took all the fun out of it. The exams are difficult and are solely based on memorization not knowledge. Every week youre required to watch the lectures and read 1-2 chapters. The readings doesnt flow with his lectures . If you wan to dedicate all of your time then this is the class for you.
Interesting lecturer, making stats less scary and more applicable.
I can tell Professor Lacroix is a good person - he cares a lot about his field of expertise. Unfortunately, I found him difficult as a professor - his midterm and exams were very hard (and abstract in comparison to the content we consumed in class). Also, he was not facilitating of students' needs. He offered no flexibility, even in the pandemic.
This class was unnecessarily hard. 60-100 pages of readings each week and long lectures. Midterm questions were very loosely based on actual knowledge and you basically had to memorize everything he has ever said. Guy offers absolutely no flexibility and is often passive aggressive and somewhat rude in communications with him.
This guy is down right difficult. His lectures are 1 hour and 30 mins each but are so boring and hard to follow. He expects you to memorize every single word he says and memorize every word of the assigned readings, because that's what he tests you on. I feel like I memorized so many things just to pass and didn't learn anything. Avoid him!
I will NEVER take one of Guy's classes again. His quizess, midterms and finals are absolutley ridiculous. He foccuses more on memorization skills than actually teaching us the information. The questions are unfair and poorly worded. overall he's incredibly negative and extremley arrogant. save your self the trouble DONT TAKE HIS CLASS
Guy is a very nice person and explains topic pretty well. His lectures are very long and there is A LOT of readings to do each week. He has weekly quizzes based on textbook readings as well as a lab, midterm, bonus reading assignment and final allowing for a lot of chances to boost your mark.
By far the worst prof I have every had in my life. He does not care about his students AT ALL and his midterms and finals do not correlate to the topics you learn in class. There is SO much reading and tasks to do for the course. If you try to question his teaching "skills" or simply ask a question for clarification, his response belittles you.
Other reviews are pretty harsh. You do work for this class but Prof Lacroix clearly breaks up grades, provides bonus. Lab could have been difficult if not for clear instructions (just don't leave things to the last moment). Yes, exams were hard. Focus heavily on case studies and experiments and understand enough to explain to someone in own words.
Guy is a nice guy but has a very "figure it out yourself" kinda teaching style. For a seminar that's supposed to take you by your hand to prepare you for writing your thesis, this style was no good. I felt completely lost and unprepared to write mine. He and his TA both just threw us to the sharks and let us fend for ourselves. Not fun.
Dr. Lacroix is by far one of the best Psychology professors I have had compared to previous psyc profs. The lectures are very interesting if like psychology. His midterm and exam were difficult, but you need to study in order to do well.
Very down to earth prof, good at explaining concepts, but lectures can be quite dense because of the subject matter.
If you pass this class, it will be in spite of Guy, not because of him. He is unapproachable & very rude in emails; unhelpful & uncooperative, completely inflexible regarding dates, deadlines & grades. He is a competent prof and lectures are mostly enjoyable otherwise. Readings and quizzes are consistent and mandatory. Overall, do not recommend.
In his intro lecture he gave specific instructions on quizzes, "read the textbook carefully and when you're ready go to bright space and take the quiz." There were so many terms on the quizzes that were not in the textbook, totally unfair to students and not okay.
Dr. Lacroix is a fantastic professor. I took this class online during COVID and the quizzes were open book. His lectures are super engaging, he's funny and is obviously very passionate about psychology! He's very clear about what will be on the exam and if you take solid notes during his lecture and read the chapters, the exam questions are easy
I'm an upper-level student and in my ENTIRE HISTORY of taking university courses, I've NEVER EVER come across someone as rude, condescending and uncompromising as Guy is towards his students. His lectures are fine and he knows his stuff but he is NOT looking out for student's best interest, he will NOT show you any compassion. You've been warned.
I liked his teaching, but the mid term was so specific it made me question my will to live. and I studied. it was just unreasonable
Very rude person, do not try to contact him. Focus heavily on case studies and experiment for undergraduate students. Nothing else to say, just do not take any of his class, if you want to pass.
just know that if your entire class bombs the midterm, he will essentially call you dumb and say that you should've studied better. Closed book midterm, questions asked for specific researchers and specific dates. Sure, if the whole class fails you curve the midterm right? right? wrong. This man thinks students are robots and holds zero mercy.
He was okay. I didn't like the format of the course, though. It was very experiment heavy and were were expected to memorize every aspect of all the experiments for the midterm and the exam. Couldn't go back to questions either, we had to do them in order. The quizzes were almost all textbook material, if you don't read it you're screwed.
There is no doubt in his knowledge regarding Psychology or his ability to effectively communicate most concepts. His relationship with students however is burdened by his rude, demeaning, elitist attitude. His condescending behaviour towards undergrads make him beyond unapproachable. He dissuades students from getting their PhDs as its NHL elite
His classes aren't easy but not unreasonably so. He really rewards effort, so as long as you try in this class you should do fairly well. He also allows you to send him papers in advance for feedback and will make enough comments that you can improve your paper by a couple of grade levels. Honestly one of the best profs I have ever had
Guy is brilliant, considerate and understanding. He is highly knowledgable of all the course content and he wants to help you improve, but you also have to show up and put the work in. I learned an exceptional amount about psychological writing as well about how to navigate the academic world. He prepare me for future studies more than anyone else.
I have taken psychology courses at three points in life and have never had a professor quite like this. It is absoloutly clear he spends time considering the best way to teach the material and his goal is accomplished. Providing demonstrations that allow us to think about how we thinking by living it is simply brilliant.
if you love yourself, avoid this prof. you can't go back and forth on questions in the exam- incredibly specific and weird-worded questions. i took more time understanding the questions than actually answering it.
AVOID, AVOID, AVOID! His exams are closed book, yet the questions are so specific you wouldn't be able to do well even if you COULD use your notes. I didn't even think it was allowed for an exam to be so difficult. Don't take a class with him if you want to do well. No matter how smart you are, or how hard you work, you'll bomb the class.
Prof Lacroix deserves a much higher rating! I learned more from him than any of my other profs combined over the years. The work is challenging but if you put in your best effort, you will be rewarded. This is one of the only profs I've seen who genuinely cares about his students and their success and well-being. Plus he's so fun!
Terrible! I remember meeting him and telling him that I wanted to do my masters in pyschology. I was an undergrad. He asked me why and I told him I wanted to help People. He laughed at me and told me if I wanted to help people I should go work in a store I left his office in tears Now I have my masters in clinical psychology.
Very long, bland lectures and difficult tests. At the start he said that whoever had the best photo for a bonus assignment would win a gift card, then he used a random number generator after I put lots of effort into my submission. He also stopped the lecture to call me out for not paying attention and interrogated me in front of everyone. Yikes
