Guy is a top-notch Eng. teacher. He's very knowledgeable about interpreting short stories, fairly easy tests(ttl. 2),two sort-of short essays, some pop quizzes. He is very fair w/what he expects from students. Easy A if you're willing to work hard.

Guy is an excellent teacher. Understands that the stories are not important, but the skills of forming and defending opinions are. Every class is discussion. Pop quizzes help students to keep up. He's playful, tolerant and open-minded, and gives respect to all his students. Very highly recommended, I'd take him again if I could.

Pretty good professor!Excellent teaching method, knows how to interest you in the subject and sometimes even make you laugh. BUt watch out ! Guy can also be pretty judgmental, if he forms a bad opinion- you might be screwed for the whole semester!!! Talking in this class doesn't help too much either.

He's interesting enough, but MAN does he droan on! Someone should play a tape of himself to him-he repeats the SAME thing over and over. Try talking to him, he won't listen cause he likes his own voice better! He explains stories, but in a first year class, he should teach what good WRITING is. He didn't prepare me for a harder marker now in 1129.

DEFINITELY,he's the best professor ever in Langara College. Though he's a stubborn man in nature, he make me(or someone else) love the literature.I am missing his lectures so much. Go take him so as you are not an idle person.

If you don't back up your claims he'll disagree - shocking! When I asked for help he wouldn't spoon feed me! He makes us think! He IS helpful AND a good prof. Perhaps you are being taught and not learning! I'd rather speak up and have him disagree with me than never knowing if what I thought held any water. Hard? Not always a bad thing!

The material was interesting, and I enjoyed the class discussions we had. He looked at the material in a thorough, thought-provoking way. My favorite teacher!

He marks hard and is extremely opinionated. He really emphasizes on stating your facts and backing them up very clearly during class/for papers. I didn't realize how much his class helped me with my writing until this year, his teaching techniques prepare you for college/university expectations and the hard work really pays off.

Awsome guy (pun intended), andvery helpfull, his lectures are interesting and interactive. He does have an attendence issue but if you like to skip don't expect to pass his or any other class. He is a fair marker and fair overall when it comes to handing in assignments. Lots of in class discussion and a medium level of gorup work. Good jokes too.

ok, i took his 1127 class last spring 08' and my first impression of him was "hmmm he looks approachable." cut into the chase, after a couple of weeks he had us do a take home eesay. when it was returned, i wasn't happy with his marking SO i talked to him in his office time, we argued and argued until I gave up - i went out w/ a teary eyes!

Great teacher what more can i say. Each story I came in thinking i new what was going on but found out what really was going on. Class is always interesting. Teacher responds to help when it is asked upon. Course is not that easy but i was never good at english. Wilkinson was better than any previous english teacher i had.

A good instuctor. He can be stuck in his ways though. He seems attatched to his own interpretations of the short stories that we were studying. Our class got in ALOT of arguments, but thats a good thing.

Lectures tended to drag on a little bit, as he'd go off on unrelated tangents. Marking was fairly inconsistent, ranging from the overly generous to the impossibly hard (ie. bumping marks down from an overly critical marker's opinion with no justification). Generally good as English profs go.

He totally rules! Such a terrific sense of humour, very dead pan! I've learned a lot in his class, and although he IS tough, that doesn't make him bad. I don't even like men and I totally fancy him!

I took his 1128 and loved it so much now Im in 1129, his classes are definetely my favorite! It kinda sux when you get the answer right but spell it wrong so it gets marked wrong, but thats is expected (afterall it is an English class!)I agree he is a hard marker,but if he was an easy marker we would learn nothing.Very helpful.Back up ur arguments!

Guy is a great guy! He is very clear in what he expects from his students, he's a bit of a hardass and he knows it which is great because you learn a lot from him and get your moneys' worth! This class is supposed to teach critical thinking and analysis skills which it does by a long shot! Highly recommended!

I was scared of poetry and I hated writing essays, but i took him for 1127 and 1129 and he makes analyzing poetry so easy and the quality of my essay is way better than what it used to be. He is very opinionated but he is always open to arguments and class discussions are really fun. Just read the text.

The class I took with Guy was small and opinionated, so it spurred a lot of discussion, which is something Guy likes. I liked him because he provides good feedback on assignments and quizzes. This is the first English Literature class where I learned something good. I believe I could have learned more if Guy had given out more written assignments.

Guy is "THE BEST" teacher ever. He makes English so easy with his good choice in stories. Helpful discussions! Interesting lectures! He taught me how to write essays and how to enjoy poems :) If you are scared of English he is the teacher to go to. All you have to do is attend lectures and participate in discussions. Guy is by far, my favourite teacher so far at Langara. I am sad that this semester is ending. I would highly recommend him. The stories he uses are interesting and he is very clear on what he wants. I received a fair mark, I'd say. His office hours are great and he is extremely understanding/helpful. I was excited for English every day.

Fair but opinionated, Guy listens to arguments from his students and tries to encourage the shy ones to speak up. Sometimes his marking scheme is a little unclear, but if you put in the effort to read and do the work as he prescribes, you should have no problem getting a good mark. Reading the stories is necessary for participation and weekly quiz.

I was nervous to take a Creative Writing class, but taking Guy's class was one of the best decisions I've made. The class was supportive, helpful and a great intro to writing. He's an excellent instructor. Take his class, you will thank yourself.

One of the best professor I've had in Langara so far. Very clear on instructions and straight forward instructions. There are weekly quizzes, so just make sure to keep up with the classwork then you will just fine. Not a hard marker. Great personality and engaging. Very entertaining class.

I had him this past semester and he's great! He's very approachable and you should make use of his office hours, I have always struggled with english writing but he gives great critical feedback on outlines and thesis. Great teacher, somewhat of an easy marker (but this was the advanced english 1127 class). Tends to ramble at times, but would much rather here the students' opinions. Only a few assignments outside of easy/short/simple weekly quizzes, which could be seen as either as good or band depending on your analytical writing level.

Wow this prof is very helpful. He is easy to understand and the course load is not too much. 2 essays, a midterm and a final. He marks pretty easy too! Not hard to be successful in his class. TAKE THIS PROF.

But no, just go to class, participate more actively, show him you're trying to pass the course and make use of his office hours. I love Guy. He's a bit of a troll in debate, and he's so hard to argue with that it makes your analytical skills better just so that you can keep up. You really have to think your arguments through. He makes fairly though- if you write well and can make a good argument, you'll get good grades.

Guy was my first college professor, and I am surprised to have gotten such a high mark with him. I took the harder English class with him (ENGL 1128), and the work was generally easy with one test every week and daily discussions. One research essay, one in-class essay, a take-home essay, and a pretty simple mid-term. Definitely recommend!

I would recommend him for ESL student. You will learn a lot from him.

Guy is a great teacher and if you participate and show up to class you will get a better grade. Quizs are hard but if you read the story over 3 times you will always get 610 which is an automatic point. Even though english is just one of those requirements for graduating, Guy made it much more bearable and interesting. I vote Guy over other profs

Amazing professor. I took Eng 1127 twice and with Guy I found that he gave us stories that made us think and enjoy literature. He never tells us how to think, wants his students to figure out the meaning of literature which I admire. An amazing professor. You will learn a lot while getting a good grade.

Pretty great teacher. By the end of the semester, you can't form an essay without hearing his voice arguing against your points. If you're willing to argue for better marks, there's a good chance he'll grant it. At the end of this semester, he gave a quiz where if you receive perfect, he'll grant you two bonus marks. That's a 12% improvement!

Guy is a great professor, but hard to argue against. His weekly quizzes can be challenging but as long as you keep up with the reading you'll do fine. You only need to get 6/10 to get the mark. Essay's are marked fairly. Final exam stories are given to you before the exam, but are hard stories. None of the stories are online.

Guy pushes you to defend your argument by looking for evidence from the text. Even if you are wrong, he appreciates you for standing your ground. He may seem to come off as condescending but that is his way to push you to stand your ground, he's very approachable.

Guy is probably one of my favourite profs so far in college. Unlike the other profs, he asks you in class to always defend your opinion even if he (Guy) can easily find a counter to it. He teaches you to be confident with YOUR choices, which makes class discussions really interesting . Expect weekly quizzes! (Bearable, you just need a 6/10 to pass)

He allows students a chance to debate and change their marks but he's always set on a specific answer already. He's hilarious and a surprisingly easy marker. He's also very understanding when it comes to absences, as long as he's notified around the time of the absence.

Guy teaches through the stories and class discussion, making learning a lot more interesting. He cares about you and is always willing to give as much feedback as you need, and tries to be very fair. There are lots of bonus marks, and he makes the effort to know everyone. You learn so much from the class without even realizing you are learning.

Every Monday started off with a quiz on the assigned story. If you score 10/10 on the quiz, you can a bonus mark! I only managed to score perfect once. The quiz sort of brought the class together. Our class talked about it every morning in the hallway and collectively agreed on a few answers. After the quiz, we would mark it as a class then debate

If you need to take english 1127 and 1129 take it with Guy. He is by far the best english teacher I had. Tough grader, but that is expected. He is willing to help so use his office hours and discuss thesis ideas for papers. He loves analysis and really gets your brain working. Likes to teach 1 hour classes four times a week, keeps you engaged.

A wonderful instructor all around. He grades on the stricter side so make sure you go back and review your stuff before handing it in. Really funny and fun to talk to. He treats you as an equal rather than a student, and will give you a chance to debate your work with him if you feel as though you deserve a higher grade.

I went into this class expecting to dislike it because it was mandatory for my degree, I dislike english, and dislike writing in general. Long story short, this became my favourite class. I loved going to Mr Guy's class because of his amazing lectures. You would really learn a lot about literature. However, he is a really hard marker.

I struggled a lot with my English writing skills, but Guy change my entire hatred for English. If your struggling in his class, I recommend you to take use of office hours. He is very understanding and willing to help you. Guy keeps the class engaging and interesting. I was worried about having to repeat the course, but I got a "S" at the end.

Interesting person, quality lessons and discussions. Definitely not an easy marker, but explains what he expects and will invest time into you if you show up to office hours. guy is definitely one of the better english profs at langara. he gives good insight into all the short stories you will read and is very friendly and approachable. i was never bored in any of his lectures which says a lot about the way he teaches. most importantly, give yourself as much time to write the essays, and you will easily get a good mark

It's kind of hilarious seeing others complain about the "difficulty" of this class. If you try to take the UBC equivalent, you'd be writing 3 essays in the same amount of time Guy gives you to write 1. Guy provides crystal clear feedback, facilitates insightful discussion, and challenges students to think critically. Highly recommend.

Amazing teacher. His class is A LOT of work and it will take over your semester with mandatory attendance, weekly quizzes and in class exercises, big essays every month. Grades are fair, forgiving and gives lots of extra marks - more work! WARNING: Avoid if you are socially anxious. He WILL learn your name and make you participate in class a lot.

He's funny, caring and understandable. Go during his office hours and he will help you out a lot. Participate in class discussions as much as possible, and his quizzes will get you bonus marks if you actually try.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Super engaging! He is always available for office hours almost everyday which is quite helpful as English isn't one of my strong subjects. Solid choice for English 1127. Easy class with minimal effort needed. You gotta do three essays. Every Monday you will have a quiz on a short story he gives on Friday. If you get 6/10 you get one mark. If you get 10/10, you get 1 mark and a bonus mark. Lectures consists of talking about the short stories and how to write an essay. Solid choice!

He is funny and knowledgeable, and his lectures are very entertaining. You'll end up learning a lot. Always willing to help during office hours and share his thoughts. BUT he is a hard marker and will make you work so hard for his class. Also, be prepared because he will make everyone participate.

ENGL 1127 is all about essays and short stories, so there's a lot of writing and reading. The quizzes on the stories make you think really hard, so make sure you read the story thoroughly. I'd say Guy is a tough marker but he has good feed back on the essays and he is willing to help during his office hours.

One of the best teachers I have ever had. I have never felt so inspired like I did during the period when I was taking his class, I really miss him.

Every week there is a small quiz and discussion based on a short story read the previous week. Participation is expected and lectures are insightful. Essays were tough, but Guy is very available, supportive, and gives many opportunities for bonus marks. Thoroughly enjoyed this class.

The take home essay, the very 1st essay, I have visited Guy 5x until my thesis statement is approved. The first 4x I have given up on any chance I will get a B and even said that Ill be content with a B-. Needless to say, if u are persistent +, serious, Guy turns no1. He is super caring, funny, + sincere in his desire to see his students succeed.

When I took my course, I thoroughly enjoyed Guys class so much. I actually ended up changing my focus to English literature thanks to him! The essay was relatively easy if you already know what direction you wanted to take, and make sure to use sources to support your views. One of the best professors I had, I really do recommend him.

I had Guy in Fall 2019 and he was a great choice for my first year of college. Gave great feedback and was always willing to help I received an A on my research paper thanks to his thesis feedback (apparently the marker is brutal). Don't expect him to tolerate excuses and laziness, work hard for the mark you want and it'll pay off!

Just go to his office hours and you'll be fine!

Great instructor, is well aware it's a mandatory course for most people and does his best to make it interesting. Not an easy A.

He's a hard but fair marker, he has clear grading criteria so you just have to pay attention in class. Guy is unbelievably intelligent and I'd also really recommend going to his office hours because he's very patient and helpful.
