This guy is pretty laid back, very easy going. He's more of a friend than an instructor. His exams are real easy. I would take his class again. Oh, exams are essays mostly
Very tough class. managed an A but really had to work my ass off for it. He's a really cool guy but just plain out difficult. However there is a high curve scale
Cool "GUY" Take notes read the book, easy A
I took this guy for two semester for two different classes. I enjoyed his teaching style and his curve is nice too. 4 quizes, only count 3 and a final. No need for book, everything comes from his lectures
cool, easy, and helpful
He is writes his notes on the board so all you have to do is copy it. Just go class and pay attention and u wont have a problem passing the class.
Great Teacher
he's not helpful!!!!
He just writes his notes on the board and doesn't give examples. He doesn't really explain things..
He ia a nice teacher.Take notes, do the practice problem and then get A.
He just write on the board , not helpful and hard
don't take him, avearage scores 8 out of 20 , doesn't know how to teach
Man , just run away , he only adds 4 points at the end , all class gets c or drops
Dont buy the book everything is online and lecture. He lets you go early at night and when there are quizes you can leave right after. Not helpful at all,not the most social of and penmenship is terrible.
He is not helpful. Each exam is a 3-4 sentence ESSAY...sounds easy, but his grading is very subjective. Highest grade in class is "C". He should not be in teaching, but his personality is so poor, he couldn't work anywhere else.
avoid him at all costs , unless you are happy with a D or with working your butt off a low C, writing for 1 hours daily and memorizing it didn't help, he gives you like 6 or so small questions , and will x over everything. he has favorite people and the rest zeros. he doesn't lecture.
Hard exams!During the lectures you only copy his notesfrom the blackboard, so you won´t understand a word! He is a nice guy but try not to take him!
His class is very hard. He doesn't go in depth to let you remember stuff. You just have to copy his notes. Even if you know the notes and whats going on the quizzes are still extremely hard.
HORRIBLE! Smart Guy, but he cannot teach. The only good thing is you don't need to buy the book and you get credit for online quizes just for trying it. Otherwise his exams are exremely hard. AVOID AT ALL COST!
Such an arrogant and unprofessional instructor. He makes people feel dumb when you ask a question. All he does is write on the board and expects you to copy. So far as aplia is concerned, hardly any of the quiz questions came from there. Who knows why they gave this guy a doctorate!! AVOID THIS GUY
The class is hard because he doesn't know how to teach, however it is possible to get an A in the class (I did). He copies straight from the book and the best thing to do is to just study the book and do the questions at the end of each chapter because a lot of them pop up on the tests.
class was okay, just gotta study the material and know the lectures, you get credit just for doing online quizes, ended up with a c in his class. wasnt bad but could have been better.
don't beleive the good reviews , he is horrible. avearage grade are 8 out of 20 and does not curve, only add few points at the end. seriously don't know how to teach at all. don't take him, or you'll suffer.
I've taken him for 2 classes. He's a very smart Guy. He's very fair with grades and has a laid-back personality. His tests are kind of hard. You need to study his notes and read the book. To understand the lecture, you should read the book ahead of time.
wooof , man , ohhh/. he is smart and all, but is not good at teaching, just write on the board and say few words, not recomended. never even think about the A. you can pass but still.
Probably the worst teacher i've had at csulb. he's a smart guy, but he's a prick. he doesnt teach, all he does is wtite on the board as fast as he can.
The lecture is just to copy everything he writes on the board, pretty boring. The grading is reasonable, but quizzes are a bit hard. If you like to take notes and not ask questions take this professor otherwise avoid.
He can be a jerk if you ask for help. Do the homework, show up for tests, and take good notes. He gives you everything you need, but it can be a little confusing. He doesnt take attendance but not showing up to class can confuse you.
The professor is very boring, he is somewhat clear but the quizzes are very hard whether you study hard or not, you must take a lot of notes and study hard.
his quizzes are very hard but he gives some xtra points on every quizzes. he posts up grades online in 3 hrs usually. only 3 quizzes and a final. i got an A. and appx 10 out of 100ppl got A's
he's hard. not helpful. all homework online and handouts. all things online he doesn't go over in class yet your still tested on it. don't take him.
His quizzes are really tough. He's not a nice guy either. Very unapproachable. Try to keep up by reading the text prior to the lectures because he goes through the material quickly. I wouldn't recommend him. Take another teacher if you can. Good luck.
He stated that a book was not required for the class, just study off his lecture notes. He is LYING, taking the test, there were questions left and right that were not on his notes. The tests were m/c so you could guess on them.
do not take him, he is awful. I had to drop the class after 6 weeks, because he is just to ridiculous. A 100 level class should never be that hard. he is egotistical and not helpful whatsoever. his grading is pathetic and the point distribution is worse
freakin' BORRIING.. everything is online.. grading is funky.. but it's not that difficult to do well, even though you probably won't learn****, cuz he freakin' can't teach.. he sucks..but wtf.. if you need the credits u won't die

any economics class is boring so with that being said hes a good teacher.. no homework just a few tests easy going laid back guy not bad as far as basic econ classes go
Kind of a dick. Writes straight off an outline onto the board. Tests on stuff he hasn't taught.
worst teacher i have ever taken at csulb. he thinks he is better than everyone else, because he understands the boring ,material. if you go to him with questions, dont expect help, rather expect him to make you feel inferior
Boring class, as said before he just writes stuff on the board from an outline. There are 4 quizzes which are confusing, and generally the practice quizzes don't help. All homework is online. Not the best class.
Kill yourself before you take this class. It's the most boring class you will ever take. One more thing you learn nothing because you are so discouraged to go to class. He counts the final as 30% of your grade so you really are screwed if you mess up on your final. I now have to repete and delete this class.
3 midterms(lowest dropped),1 final,1 EC test. He allows corrections on tests for extra point.HW is over internet, you only have to get one problem correct to recieve credit. DON'T fool yourself, econ is not easy, prepare to study!Contrary to what other say, he ws VERY HELPFUL and open outside class. I missed over a month of class and got a B.
Very dissapointed in his class... you can tell he doent want to be there. unclear, VERY unnaproachable, etc. dont be fooled by easy homework, he makes up for it with the suicidal quizes, especially the last couple. if you go to class, do the hwk, & try very hard to understand him, you may be able to pull off a B... i barely, barely did.
He is the worst professor I have ever had in college, he doesn't answer any questions about the topic and tells you to go and look it up. Very unresponsive to his students and he seems very disinterested in his work and his students.
Don't ask any questions in lecture because you're not going to get an answer. He teaches at a high level and expects students to follow. He's actually very helpful if you see him in office hours. He's not such a **** if he's in office I guess.
This guy is a very hard to approach. He is horrible. NO ONE take Econ from him.Everyone is failing him because he writes like chickenscratch and HATES answering questions!
He sucks at teaching and getting the message through clearely. The class was really borring because all he does for an hour and a half is write chickenscratch on the board. Half of the time you don't understand what he is talking about and his notes don't help at all!
HE IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. JUST BECAUSE HE HAS A DEGREE, HE MAY KNOW HIS STUFF ABOUT HIS SUBJECT MATTER BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN HE CAN TEACH. HE CAN WRITE CHICKENSCRATCH PRETTY WELL.
Listen to what everyone here is saying about this guy. He really is the WORST professor ever. Unapproachable and unhelpful. Exams are so HARD. I showed up for every single lecture, studied like crazy and still got a "C" in the class. I wish I would've known about this website before taking this class with him. Run like crazy from this professor.
There are only a few words to describe this guy...pure evil, vindictive, @#*%head.Need I say more?DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!
So, I didn't read this before taking his class and now have a nice F affecting my GPA. Tests are really freaking hard. Lecture notes don't really help you on tests. His Aplia.com thing really doesn't help. He's boring. He's kinda mean. If you MUST: (1)NEVER miss class (2)STUDY like crazy (3)Review I guess (4)Do Online HW & reading (5)GOOD LUCK!
buff says nothing but what he wrote on whiteboard, means nothing in exams, explains nothing, not helpful when asked questions, thinks he is a msart ass genious, will you should know more than the students, you are the professor Mr Yamashiro, go eat a cookie. Not recommended
DO NOT TAKE!!! he is super hard, thinks he's funny (not at all) FAILS many people, hardly gives out A's, APLIA.com is a piece of SH!t $60 bucks down the drain! cant read his writing on the board, thinks he is a econ genius, if u travel for sports you cannot make deadlines for homework and self-quizzes! you miss class and its hard to get back into!
Go to class! He gives you exactly what will be on the tests. Just read your notes a couple of times before each test and you'll be fine. Do the online homework, but don't pay much attention to it because none of the info comes up in class or on tests. He gives you extra credit for correcting your tests too. I got an A, and didn't try hard.
This guy is a major jerk and so full of himself. He is awful. He doesn't explain the material yet his exams are hard as hell. He is also unapproachable and at times extremely rude and inconsiderate. His handwriting is so bad, like chicken scratch so you can't really follow the lecture. TAKE ANYONE BUT HIM. DONT LET THIS GUY RUIN YOUR GPA.
probably the hardest class ive had so far. there are definately much easier professors out there but a B can be made with some effort. the average class grade was a low C. 4 quizzes, 1 final and he drops the lowest quiz score. lectures are extremely unorganized. just write good notes and actually study them for this class...

he is soooo hard! not even kidding. this was my hardest class by far. he goes super fast and you don't get a book to study from, just outlined notes. i hafta take this class over again.
This guy is a horrible teacher, he doesn't know how to teach his material, he couldnt even make it somewhat interesting, at first the class seemed easy but it got more difficult as the class progressed, i managed to get a C in this class! Good thing i got this class over with!
If you are reading this, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. Take my word for it. His notes are impossible to follow - he has no organization what so-ever, he moves at a pace that probalby only 4 out of the 200 students in the class can follow, he is completely unapproachable, he is rude, short, and the worst professor ever!Save yourself.

He is aweful. Truly a bad professor. He should not be teaching -- he should be doing consulting somewhere where he doesn't work with people. He does a terrible job at explaining things -- He thinks that saying something really fast means it's been explained throughly. Avoid him at all costs.
I cannot stress enough how far you should go to avoid this man. I generally like my professors and give good feedback but Yamashiro is the worst professor I have EVER had. The overwhelming amount of negative comments on here says a lot and it should. He is an ineffective communicator and belittling. He does not have tenure and for good reason.

Goes really fast in class, doesn't answer questions. All homework is online and the online reading has no substance. I have to take this class over again... Difficult teacher, try not to take him.
a really hard teacher..be aware... his lecture really fast.
Despite all the bad reviews people are giving this guy. He is not so bad. He does go a little bit fast in lectures but will repeat something if you ask. His class is out of 100 points and the online assignments are not hard at all. As long as you keep up with your work and study what he tells you to study, you'll do fine!
At every level of economics, avoid him if you can. Where there is an alternative class, take that instead of his.
Dr. Yamashiro is not that bad. His class is difficult, but he is extremely helpful if you go to his office hours (he may seem unapproachable, but he's a really nice guy). He doesn't require a text book. Easy on-line HW, and to do well you can't miss lecture.
Lectures are ok-copies notes on the board, uses the overhead to mix it up, tries to involve the class by asking questions, lets you out early. Seems unapproachable but is helpful when he knows you want to learn. Favors grad students. Labs are long & challenging. Exams aren't bad. Must demonstrate that you care about learning. I recommend his class.
Not an easy class but he'll give you credits for what you've tried (even though doing bad on exams.) If you can't tolarate him, probably you won't survive thru the grad program anyway.
Easy A if you do the practice problems. Very helpful at his office.
Very hard yet very rewarding course. The Proffessor was always very helpful in his office hours, he really takes the effort to teach his students. He can be tough, but it's because he want's his students to really learn.
Yamashiro is a good teacher in that his tests are all off the notes and handouts... I like his teaching style because its to the point. We didn't really use the book mostly aplia and NOTES (are really important)! if u study the notes! you will do fine!!!
I had Guy in the Fall of '07 and his class was pretty straight forward. There are only 100 points total in his class so every point counts. His exams are based off of his SLOPPY HAND-WRITTEN notes. Make sure to sit in the front. He drops the lowest test score to raise your grade. I failed almost every exam and still received a B in the class.
This class is only for students who are defenitelt committed to gettting an A, dont expect to get an BECAUSE you wont unless you sit in the front, pay attnetion and take good notes, wouldnt recommend this class to someone whose trying to get an easy A or even B, your will defenitely fail. Im going to repeact/delete this course on another teacher
Class is pretty difficult like everyone is saying, but somehow I managed to get an A. I didn't really read the online book, but I always did participate in class. Office hours do help so make sure you go if you need it. If you understand the formula, I think you can pretty much get an A or B.
He's cool when he's not lecturing. He's not bad looking either
You will need much more than just BizCalc to survive this Math-Econ class. Has high expectations, so you'll be in great shape for grad school if you succeed. Lectures are often terse and unclear, so prepare for lots of time researching topics online. Not very approachable, but nice to students who show they looked up a topic before asking.
I am currently taking his class and this class takes up a lot of my time. The tests are curved. I don't see why people are saying he isn't approachable. It's call office hours, use it. There are people that don't need the book and just study off the notes, but I'm not the smartest girl so I need the book. Not an easy A, but you learn a lot.
I don't know why everyone seems to think his classes are so hard. SUPER EASY... for me at least. All of his tests are basically short answer and you just need to have common sense about applying the concepts. Would love to take more classes from him.
Yamashiro is a good econ teacher. His class is a little tough but he gives you plenty of opportunities for extra credit, and drops your lowest exam. His tests are mostly from his lectures. Overall I enjoyed it. People that are saying he is a jerk just don't know how the real world works.
This was a very hard class. A lot of the students didn't like the professor. He doesn't hold your hand and lead you easily through this stuff. So you have to be pretty independent. Do all of the online homework. Show up for every class. Take notes. If you do all that, you'll be okay.
This teacher has no desire to help students, doesn't explain things well and speaks verbatum from the book.
Taking class right now. Cannot read his writing at all which is what he base things on. Not very clear or nice. No quiz review. Don't take.
have taken him several times. hes very clear in his lectures and very fair in terms of grading. he doesnt walk you through every little thing because he does expect you to think a little bit but in general you have to be a retarded monkey not to pass with at least a B
do the work. study hard and well in advance. you'll pass. decent class.
Expects you to actually think, so you have to understand the concepts. Writing sucks, but take notes and you will get a B on tests. Also grades HW on effort (and combined they equal an entire exam) and gives partial credit liberally on tests. He wants you to pass, but he can be a bit cold to students personality-wise, but educationally he's fine.
It's a pretty tough class. There's a curve depending on how the class does. You have to make sure you know the stuff. He doesn't use the book at all, but it helped me. He's not a bad teacher, although I found him a little intimidating to approach. Participate as much as you can.
He goes kinda fast. But you need to prepare for the class. The class itself is not easy, just don't expect to sit and get everything. He graded homework for effort, which is great. I studied his slides, did the homework, came to office hour (2 for the semester). Got an A. If you want to be a good econ student. Take him
He is a good teacher. He knows the subject and knows how to explain. I highly recommend him if you are majoring in Econ and willing to study.
Excellent Professor! He really knows his stuff, and can ALSO teach the material. However, be ready to think in his class. He makes lecture enjoyable, and is extremely helpful during office hours. Best professor I've come across yet! Cannot wait to take another course taught by him again!
Get involved and go to every class and you will pass with an A. This professor explains every concept precisely but he does not ask if you have any questions. Some items are hard to grasp, although he gives examples. Be willing to be involved in class, then the midterms and test will not be difficult. This is a good professor.
His tests are difficult (as compared to other Econ teachers), but he does curve to the median of the class being a B-. Definitely not for those who are not good at Econ, as he does go VERY fast. Regardless, he is definitely a very good professor who will constantly challenge you. He asks questions often in class, to keep you on your toes.
I am taking his class right now( Money and Banking.) Loving this class. He is very clear on lectures, and exams are not too hard. He curves the exams. I like that he smiles when he's lecturing :)
He makes the class harder than it should be. He never draws out graphs/examples for you, he expects you to know everything. His slides are useless to study off of, he asks questions in them w/o answering them. Doesnt have study guides bc he suggests you use MyLab to study. its a horrible studying tool bc it includes topics he never talks about
Good at explaining the topics because he knows what he's talking but there is zero repetition, so good luck with that. Going to his office hours are a waste of time. Not sure how I got a B to be honest.
Like others have said, he's really smart but not the most clear or approachable. Study the lectures, take good notes, show up, and you should be fine. The book isn't really used but it does help clear up some of the stuff he rushes through. Also, can't believe he doesn't have a pepper; he's pretty hot imo
Show up to class! Random extra credit points. Either write REALLY quick or print out the lecture slides before class, because he speeds right through them all. The tests are kinda tricky. If you do the homework and class exercises, you're guaranteed a few questions on tests, but there will be questions about things that were lightly touched on.
He's really intelligent with economic concepts, but sometimes expects you to know too much. Come to class ready to pay attention and write. If you average about a 65% on his exams and do all the other work you should be able to pass the class. He drops one homework assignment and allows up to 10% in extra credit. This class was alright.
Borderline too intelligent to be teaching a basic class, you can tell he gets bored with the class a little but none the less he knows what he's talking about. The book matches up perfect with the lectures, so if you need to go back over something you have another reference other than lectures.
He is really smart. Must attend his class because he randomly gives out extra credit (10%). He goes really fast, I mean, too fast on the class material, but he is good at explaining the material. Didn't buy or used the textbook, just review the class notes, homework, and class exercises, then you should be fine.
Good teacher, clear structure, not too easy so better use textbook for foundation
You gotta work hard. I would recommend him to serious econ majors. He is intelligible, and so he expects students. Attendance is a must. Make sure to get the in-class extra credit right (come to office hours if you didn't). It will be helpful on the test. The material is mostly from the slides, so have them ready. I was not easy, but I got an A
I'm taking this class right now and even though it's a 100, I'm having difficulty. His lectures go by very quickly and the powerpoints are pretty dense. I've been doing okay grade-wise but you really need to work to simply pass. Would not recommend for anyone just taking for credit but would for econ majorsenthusiasts.
He's really smart but he goes really fast in lecture. He makes you feel dumb when you ask a question or if you get a clicker question wrong. His exams are difficult and not very predictable. He offers a lot of extra credit points if you come to class. He also doesn't ever write out the examples, he just says the answer out loud.
Went to his office hours. Not really much help. Clicker quiz will get you through, but definitely need to study on your own to get a high grade.
Very intelligent professor. Speeds through class material to the point were we were two weeks ahead of the syllabus at one point. Tests scores had a median of 60-70 percent. Offers 10% of the class in extra credit for simply attending and then possible curve on top of that. Sets the median to a high C low B. Book and lectures are a good fit.
Goes through material very quickly and it can be difficult to keep up. Too smart for his own good. Gives a lot of extra credit through clicker questions. Homework is more of a helpful review. Don't skip class. Three exams and one final. Also really attractive, just sayin'.
I was a bit scared to take Guy after reading the reviews but I am glad I took his class. His lectures are fast but straight to the point. If you attend class regularly, you'll get a lot of extra credit through clicker. To study, read the notes that you took in class and read the power point posted. Do extra credit assignment. Don't buy textbook.
Getting an A would take some work but not really if you understand the concept. Grading criteria is simple and he gives out a lot of extra credit points, iclicker and sapline. HW once a week but you just need 70% to get credit. Personally, test were difficult(would walk out confident but got C/D) but got an 85 overall.
Do avoid him if you can. Super fast paced lectures, very difficult to follow. He is not there for the students. So if you expect a teacher to be there for you, he is not the one. Tests are confusing, and are not in line with the homework. I found the class to be extremely frustrating. It was a stretch to get a B, and prior to that my GPA was 4.0.
This is the worst professor in the economics department. First of all he's rude and gets mad if students don't participate, this is college not high school. And his tests are very difficult, i did the homework multiple times and went over all the notes multiple times and barely managed to get a C. Avoid him if you can!!!
Attendance is very important considering you can get a full letter grade of extra credit using the clicker in his class. The test questions revolve around what he tells you in class along with the power points (What he tells you in class is alot more helpful; he gets right to the point). I didn't need to ask much questions when taking his course.
He designs this class so that anyone can pass if you show up to class. The clicker is a live saver and gave me an 11% grade boost. Barely payed attention to lectures mostly did other homework and still got at least a B on every test since all of the slides are on beach board just look over them before each test. Easy Econ class
Did not like him at all. Avoid if you can. Tests are tough, confusing. Homework does not help you prepare.
AVOID if possible. Homework doesn't help, gives clicker questions in class, lectures are basically the book on a powerpoint, he gives practice problems in class but doesn't go over the correct way to answer, your grade in the class will be what you get on his tests, hard grader for short answer portion of test (credit no credit on some)
Really straightforward professor. Tests were also straightforward. Clicker questions were helpful and became extra credit points once minimum was fulfilled. He explained things really concisely and usually let the class out once he was done with the lecture powerpoint for the day.
People may think this professor is tough, however, he is very helpful. The lecture is straight forward and clear. Homework will be graded on efforts but not how many got right. Giving extra points for class practice which is REALLY helpful. He is a tough grader but it will help clear the mind and avoid careless mistakes. Have to work hard.
If you don't try to pay attention, you will find him very frustrating as he lectures very quickly. It Is easy to fall behind if you don't attend class. Tough grader but is very descriptive and effective at teaching complicated concepts. Give the guy (no pun intended) a chance and you'll do well. Slack off and be lazy and you will not enjoy it.
His clicker points are a life-saver!! Got a total of 10% extra credit from it. Most people don't like him much because he's not the friendliest guy, but he's a clear and straight-forward professor. Honestly never paid attention during class, but still ended up with a mid A from using his online powerpoint slides to study for exams.
Although attendance is not technically mandatory, iClicker questions play a big part of your grade and extra credit. The difficulty level of his exams fluctuated throughout the year. Lecture material was more in depth than material from the textbook. His teaching style is very fast-paced, but he definitely knows what he's talking about.
His class is not hard. You just have to Come to class, Pay attention; Take Notes; Do your homework; and Study for your tests like you should for any class you have. There is a lot of extra credit available through the iclicker and inquizitive. He goes straight to the point. He wants you to do well, you just have to do your part.
Easy class to get a C. NEVER miss homework, NEVER miss a class random extra credit get a D or higher on each exam and quiz, you will get a C guaranteed. Miss class, not do homework, somehow get 30 percent on exams and quizzes, youll be in for a rocky ride. Stay close to the class median, youll get a C. He curves.
Guy is such a dope professor. He deserves a way better rating. Yeah the class is pretty mf hard but it's not Guy's fault. It's a hard class to teach but Guy knows what he's talking about. Just do the hw, iclicker questions, & extra credit, they help SO MUCH, especially if you don't do that well on the exams :( Hes fastpaced but the ppts are online
Extra credit should save your grade, got 2 D's on exams and still got an A in the class. The exams are exactly from whats on the powerpoint slides, homework actually helps. Memorize whats on the slides and you'll do good. Don't skip class cause you'll miss out on clicker points
Guy designs his class so that everyone can pass. I failed 3/4 of the exams and still passed the class. the Iclicker questions will save your grade, so I suggest not skipping class. Do not buy the book you don't need it. He posts all the lecture slides. he does teach fast paced, but knows what is talking about. The subject itself is hard so study!!
Do not take this class with him. Choose literally anybody else. He says the class is an easy A but it's not. And don't ask him for help because he won't help you.
Extra-Credit should help boost up your grade. Don't skip class because the clicker points are a life savor.
I just withdrew from this teacher, his grading system is horrible and he teaches at 94 mph in his lectures. He is so rude to his students, and does not care whether or not they pass, he just likes having authority and power, even though he is nothing special. If you are a business major, do not make the same mistake I did, take any other teacher.
Avoid this professor at all costs. I barely made it out with a C. He is so rude. If you get anything wrong on a test dont bother asking him about it because he doesnt care. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO CLASS TO GET CLICKER POINTS, ITS THE ONLY THING THAT SAVED MY GRADE!
He teaches really fast and doesn't go over things more than once. He doesn't use the textbook either, making it tough to learn some things. Iclicker questions help with your grade a lot. He doesn't provide study guides so one must rely on lecture slides. Graphing for tests is all or nothing, so if you miss one thing, you get no credit.
Guy is something else- like his nonchalant and idgaf behavior makes me kinda laugh at times but then again its not funny when you genuinely need help in the class. He lets you out like 30 minutes early but you leave confused more than ever so whats the point? SHOW UP TO CLASS! NEVER MISS A LECTURE! the clicker points will literally save your grade!
His lectures are really difficult to follow and study from. The way he presents the material and speaks about it is really easy to miss. Attendance isnt mandatory, but IF YOU DONT SHOW UP, YOU WONT PASS. His iclickers gave me a whole letter grade and a half higher than what I would have normally got. THEY LITERALLY SAVED ME AND MOST PEOPLE.
Easy to get an A or B. Provides pwpt slides. 4 tests, final is cummulative. You only need to do 10/15 homework to get the full grade. GO TO CLASS to get clicker points. This is the only extra credit he offers (i got 18/10pts). Lectures are straightfwd. Kinda grumpy but teaches great. Makes the material super easy to understand!!
Hes kinda rude. Lowkey scared of him. Also this man doesn't curve tests, smh. He's kinda bootleg.
This class stressed me out the most out of all my classes. He was not helpful at all. I went to his office hours and he told me to just read out of the textbook, I taught myself everything through Youtube. For sure thought I was going to fail, ICLICKER is the only thing that saved my grade. I failed every test & got a C on the final.
Worst professor I have taken thus far. This class is lecture heavy and if you skip on the lectures in class and the readings you won't pass this class. Additionally, he does iClickers. Sounds easy right? Wrong, he only gives you 5-10 seconds to answer the question right after 5-7 lecture slides. Totally would not recommend this professor!
He may seem distant, but I think he honestly wants everyone to pass. I recommend studying the in class exercises he gives along with doing practice problems in the back of the book.
He is very fast paced and if you don't/can't keep up, he will not slow down for you. He basically expects you to understand and get everything the first time. Is kind of rude when you ask questions in class & makes you feel dumb if you don't get it. Definitely go to tutoring or form a study group for this class.
He is honestly the most awful professor I have ever had. He is an arrogant person who gets annoyed whenever any student asks him a question. He does not respect his students and does not care whether or not they understand the concepts he is teaching. You basically have to teach yourself everything and his averages on quizzes are 50%
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON"T UNDERSTAND ECON. He doesn't care about his students at all. He is so mean and makes you feel stupid.
The only reason why he makes the class easy to pass with ridiculous grading criteria is because he knows he is terrible at teaching and doesn't want to put any effort into effectively teaching his students. All he cares about is getting out of class early. Also doesn't make sure everyone understands the material. Failed every exam but still passed.
He was probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. His tests were super hard and if you need to ask for help, don't bother because he doesn't care. The thing that really saved me in this class was the clicker points because you can get extra credit from them. Overall I recommend you take another professor because I was stressed out.
2 things i couldve done to get an A: 1. going to more than half the classes 2. lil studying for the tests (2/10 on t4) class consists of 508 slides of lecture + clicker its not a difficult class, studying for final(to get 30/30 for A) was pathetic because i got 24/30 and all i needed was to go to class for 6 clicker points hindsight lol
I constantly found myself choosing between listening to what he says or reading the slides. His exams average around 65% but luckily the HW is light and very easy, and iClicker points are unlimited. Grading consists of 4 exams, HW, clicker, and the final. Not the worst but definitely not the best. My advice would be to sit in the front row.
His lectures are crucial to your understanding of the material because without his explanations you may get lost by reading the book. His lectures fly by and I missed one lecture and totally bombed the following exam. Overall if you read the book plus go over the powerpoint and problem sets (hw) you'll be fine.
He's intimidating, but Guy knows his stuff. He does go over lecture slides really fast, but follow along in the book and review the chapter prior and I promise you it'll help a lot!!! DON'T MISS CLASS, his extra credit helps a lot! Practice problems/HW and in-class examples will pop up in the test again!
Avoid taking his class at ALL COST! Choose any other professor teaching Econ 100. Just AVOID TAKING HIM. As you guys may know the covid-19 really did have an impact on how most students did in the course. The alternative (online course) version for the remaining of the semester was not great. He made it way more tough to pass his class.
He is definitely not as bad as some of these reviews say. There is no reading required and barely any homework assigned. This class is solely based on the lecture, so make sure to review if you're stuck on something. He goes extremely fast, so pay attention. His tests are based on his lectures and they're decent. He curves and gives extra credit.
If I could give 0 I would. 1) Doesnt help even if you ask 2) Wont accommodate for you - even if you cant change the circumstance or its not ur fault 3) Rude and blunt in emails and zoom chats 4) Doesnt record lecture 5) Exams based on lecture ONLY - if you cant make it youre screwed ¡Avoid at all costs!
I've never made one of these posts before but I had to for him because he needs a worse rating. Worst teacher I've had so far at CSULB. His zoom lectures are absolutely awful, he doesn't record them, he gets mad when people ask questions. He doesn't care at all about his students; he should honestly quit and find a new job.
He knows his stuff, but the way he handles things is just so bad. He has like this ego where he thinks he's above his students and they need to bow down and just nod. Dude gives like 30 seconds for his clickers and when someone asked to give us a little extra time, he says "Maybe." No recorded lectures, so don't skip class.
Zoom Uni: 6 HW-4pts/each, 2 Quizzes-10pts/each, 3 Exams-20pts/each. Ur grade based on the 100pts. Gives EC for class attendance. Lectures r fast and he doesn't take time to really answer ur questions. Miss a class u miss a whole chunk of exam. Book helps alot (read before/DO practice questions) but it is vague. He does not record his lectures.
Definitely smart but pretty rude when asked any questions and doesn't care about his students. Exams were difficult but were open note and book. The only good thing about this class is there is an unlimited number for extra credit points with the clicker questions but he gives you like 10 sec per question. Do not recommend
He made it extremely easy to get an A, yet I still learned a lot and enjoyed the content and his lectures. That's exactly the way a class should be. He goes fast but if you just do the work and take notes you can't fail.
He's terrible. In fact, this is my only post on R.O.P, just to get convey how bad he is. Since transitioning to online classes, he never bothered to record lectures, didn't make the slides available, a connection with students was non-existent, no feedback from HW, and worst of all, he's the most condescending and rude professor I've ever had.
I made a ROP just to say that this the worst professor I've taken at CSULB, he simply does not care if you have any questions. He doesn't record the lectures and moves really quick. The problem sets and H.W. is fair, but has nothing similar in the Midterms. I recommend taking someone else.
Guy is certainly a difficult professor. But he does give you the opportunity to do well. You need to attend class. He gives you extra credit points up to 14 out of 100 of your whole grade. So that is 14% of your overall grade just for attending class His lectures arent usually sufficient enough to do well on tests. Read to reinforce your knowledge
Dr. Yamashiro is the most underrated professor. He gives solid lectures, explaining his slides in depth. Tests are pretty simple, all from the book. Make sure to be engaged during lectures, as clicker ?'s go by really fast. Also, make sure to understand the last two units (Aggregate and Policy), as they come up on the final.
Professor Yamashiro is very straightforward with the grading criteria so focus on that. Participation in class is necessary for clicker questions which can help boost your grade (unlimited). I found lectures easy to follow although some peers mentioned they were fast paced. As for tests, try to score your highest at the beginning of the course.
He is extremely clear on the grading criteria, and gives lots of extra credit. However, even with that, I just couldnt pass his class. I felt really dumb in his class and have always got As on all my other Econ classes. His teaching style was not for me, gives 0 feedback, study guides, or SOMETHING to learn mistakes from! Plus, hes extremely rude
This is genuinely the worst professor I have ever encountered. My AP econ teacher from high school should replace him. I cannot comprehend how he even still has a job. I have emailed him questions to which he responds a week or two later with extreme unprofessionalism and an attitude. He gives no study guides, no description of the test. Much more!
this professor sucks! do not take him! he talks fast during lectures and you barely can ask questions because of how fast he goes! i failed this econ class because of how fast paced this teacher is
4 exams, 1 final, 15 easy homework assignments, and clicker questions (mid lecture questions based on lectures). You only need to get 10 clicker question points to get full credit, and anything after is extra credit which is unlimited. As long as you do a ton of clicker questions you will do fine, even if you do bad on exams.
Must go to lectures, because clicker points are important to get a good grade in the class (unlimited extra credit clicker points). He goes through lectures extremely fast. Pretty much have to self-teach yourself to learn the materials, can't rely only on going to lectures. 4 exams 1 final. He doesn't care about his students tbh.
Not a very personable guy at all, but he's very knowledgeable in the material and a very fair grader. He gives a lot of free extra credit so that there's no gray area where your grade stands by the end of the course. His lectures are clear but throw a lot at you at once, could be due to the fact that I had him in the summer.
SAVE YOURSELF Professor is intelligent, probably too book smart to teach. His lecturing is difficult to follow & he's very condescending, often saying, "It's so easy!" He doesn't understand what it's like learning macro theory for the 1st time from a student's pov. Really dedicate yourself to teaching yourself this class.
Fast lectures that are difficult to follow along. Professor gives an attitude when students ask simple questions. Homework questions do not prepare you for the exams. The exam very often had questions that students had never practiced before. I noticed the best way to study for his exams are in-class practice problems and reading the textbook.
His expectations of students are a bit high when it comes to taking notes. I found him difficult but I took a summer class with him that had 4 hour long lectures and I never took an introductory macro class so you may find him easier. If you can average a 70% on quizzes/tests you get an A. Homework was easy and had good policy.
My worst professor at CSULB. He's extremely rude, condescending, and is hostile towards people who are struggling or are trying to ask questions. He rushes through slides and doesn't explain concepts in-depth as it feels like he expects you to already know all of this new material. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
First off, this professor was clearly just there to teach and dip. He didn't really care much for how his students were doing in class and would get annoyed when people would ask him to repeat something. One good thing I will say is that he offer a lot of extra credit points which helped boost my grade and pass. Other than that, that was it.
If there are other professors, pick them instead. This should not be your first pick. Class it not fun by any means, he can be rude to students, and the lectures are just not it.
A lot of people say he's rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate. They're right but it doesn't matter because you won't have to ask him questions since he goes by lectures pretty quick. Lots of extra credit which made me pass, never studied for tests. Focus on clicker questions to learn bc it's not hard. DO HW AND DON'T SLEEP ON CLICKER QUESTIONS!!!
Awesome professor!
Avoid this class at all costs. Lectures are painfully boring, filled with constant yapping and unnecessary scolding for minor noise. He gets annoyed when you ask a question!? The material is tough very poorly. Exams include mostly multiple choice with occasional graph questions. Only good things were the homework and unlimited iClicker points.
20% 6 HWS (1 for EC), 20% 2 Quizzes, 60% 3 Exams. He does give out EC's for in-class participation but goes through his PPT lectures very quick, so prepare to teach yourselves. He has a rude attitude towards students, thinking that his course is ez when it's not. Save yourselves time and hardships by avoid taking him and Jack Hou for econ @CSULB
Extremely easy A if you show up to class and do all the work. Lectures can get boring, but if you pay attention and do the iClicker questions you'll do fine. Unlimited extra credit opportunities via iClicker leads to an easy A. Not sure why everyone is complaining. Take this professor if you want a free A!!!!
Free A is cap. You have to teach yourself most of the stuff because his slides are so unorganized and thats all you really have to learn from him. Seems like he could care less about students. He just teaches slides and gets out of there. Only positive thing from this class was the extra credit from iClickers because they are unlimited.
He was ok, just make sure you do the iClickers cause it will literally save your grade. HW is easy, only need 80% on it to get full credit. Lecture slides are difficult to understand and he moves very quick. Try to take notes, but I gave up on trying after the third class and I managed to pass anyways. Try to score high on the first couple exams.
Not only does he never reply to emails (even ones sent weeks before a class), he is extremely strict. Graded on few things, and NOT ACCESSIBLE ONLINE (even though its an online class!). No notes he does in class are posted online, lecture recording not posted. He is extremely rude to his students, very very cold. Never seen a professor so mean...
I am a responsible student with a high GPA. I've never had issues with any teacher before. DO NOT take this class. He rushes through slides, overwhelms students with information, gets irritated when questions are asked, and is rude in emails. I've had to teach myself using the book, which is disappointing, since I'm interested in the subject.
Lectures won't be posted. The lectures themselves will be swift and you will struggle to decipher his hieroglyphics. And yes, questions are discouraged. He will make an already difficult subject, impossible; there are no work arounds. That infamous EC means nada when the average exam score is 25%. Heed the warnings of those that came before you.
Worst professor. Sorry Yamashiro but u need psychological help. He get paid for this job and is very unprofessional. He is no where near understanding. He is super rude every class I avoided asking questions bc he gets mad when people do. His exams are the worst. When we got our test results the average was 19%. Everyone failed this class.
Challenging class, but worth it if you put in the work. Lectures move fast, so be prepared to teach yourself. unstuck study and other study tools were a big help. Overall, a solid class if you can manage the difficulty.
Easy class to pass if you attend and pay attention. He has this weird system for grading set up, but only to make it easier to pass. GIVES LOTS extra credit where sometimes you don't need to take the final exam. Besides, he acts tough initially and has a stong personality, but the course work is easy. 3 exams 1 final. you'll survive trust.
He is a lowkey chill guy. You can get infinite extra credit through iclickers. You only have to do 10 of 15 homework assignments for full credit. He does go through lectures fast and seems annoyed all the time. He says ok or alright after every sentence. For a gen ed class he is fine but wouldn't take him past that.
He goes through the class slides very quickly and leaves no room for questions. He seems irritated when you ask questions and does not explain things clearly. For iclicker participation points, he gives you about 20 seconds to answer the questions (not enough time at all).
I took his class without checking rate my professor. Worst decision I've ever made. I have a high GPA, I understand his material in class and I did exactly what he wanted me to do on tests. He is a very tough grader doesn't explain what he's looking for or answers questions. Please do not take him. He is very bad!!!!!
Don't bother asking him questions. He doesn't tell you what he's looking for so literally just take pictures of all the examples/practice you do in class and copy the way he solves the problem and you will be fine. He's a good teacher but he's strict he makes it clear that if you can't graph the models you'll fail so make sure you understand it.
Yamashiro is an example of a professor that does not care. He lectures fast and ends class early, making it feel like coming to class was not worth it. I got more out of the book than his teaching style. He is mean towards his students and gets infuriated by the most miniscule things. Uses his position as a tenured professor as a powerplay. Awful.
pretty chill guy he knows his stuff but he gives you only a few seconds to learn before he moves on and your grade basically is determined by the scantron tests.
He goes fast, but after 1-2 classes I got used to it) if you miss a slide he posts them all on canvas. The tests are almost all multiple choice, and the questions are reasonable. If you focus and do the clicker questions and actually apply yourself you'll do well. I did.
Unless you absolutely have to do not take him. He does not care about his students. His lectures are 100+ slides, are fast, and word vomit of facts. Only extra credit is with attendance so if you want to pass you have to go to class. No study guide or any guidance with exams. I would never take his class again !
