sucks at giving directions on how to do projects. Tests to hard and to many chap
All you ever do is take notes, runs out of breath cause she talks so much
Horrible directions, if you late to class don't take her she doesn't accept it
wonderful! very interesting! lots of reading, but test are not hard
Very enthusiastic about her subject. Extremely approachable if you go to see her
very unclear directions, will tell you one thing but wants another, bad feedback
Ms. Dueker is the most inspiring teacher I have ever had.
She is very preachy
Very nice lady, comes off tough, and makes you work, but good prof.
on her soap box alot. dotn call her mrs. exams very hard. expects too much.
i wish i could sum her up in one word, oh wait i can... HORRIBLE
She turns red a lot after she has talked for a while and DO NOT use Mrs. Dueker!
keeps things interesting, cares about what parts the students WANT to learn
great prof. very interesting, for a 300 level course, the work isnt bad
very disorganized and picks out tiny things for the test, needs more experience
horrible....wrong.....wow.
she refuses to make herself clear. needs more experience in the class room.
comes off strong, but is a very nice, caring person, very willing to help you
love to see her make all you lazy people whine! learn to study and this class is
Very nice and helpful. Read the book and attend class and you should have no problem.
oh my dear lord!! this lady uses class as a brainwashing medium-- A. we get it, war is bad, has she ever heard of apolitical? B. she is campaigning for a socialist society
no political.
Very werid teacher. She told our class that she want kids to be drafted for the war to equal out the socity but that doesn't make any sense.
more politics then psy
Nice teacher, very helpful, attend class and you will do fine.
This woman might just be, no, I take it back, IS the most inconsiderate faculty member on campus. Never in tune with people outside her little fantasy world.
Very energetic and excited about teaching subject, sometimes a little bit too excited (which is way better then boring!)
BasIcally Good, But tOO Beastly on gradeS
AWFUL!AWFUL! AWFUl! Has no clue how to grade or and doesn't help with papers. Some tests are easy while others or terrible! DO NOT TAKE!
very energetic and loves to teach, which i good but tests are very hard and she does not review for them or anything...assignments are NOT clear and when you tell her that she goes crazy on you, i would recommend another teacher for this course
very passionate about what she teaches, wants everyone to make a difference, not very clear, must know minute details for tests, not clear with assignments
Worst prof ever had. expects you to read to book to learn all info. lectures are pointless. tests are hard with specific info out of the book.
I think this prof was wonderful! She was very educated and passionate. I had no problem with this class; as long as you use the study guide, tests are easy!
The bad comments of this prof. must be coming from those that didn't attend class! She gives you a study guide for each test, very clear on assignments and if you still have question, she is MORE than willing to help you.She is very passionate, and great!
Horrible prof. She is not very clear in what she wants and of course expects you to understand exactly what she means. The course work is not very hard, but she makes it pretty hard. If for some reason you do take her class ...DO NOT CALL HER MRS.
so far seems ok, passionate about Psych, drives me nuts how she says "right" after every sentence! dont believe me, take a listen to her lectures, it's crazy.
Fun class! You learn a lot. Dueker knows her stuff, and she's dedicated t child development. If you are not truly interested in kids, then don't take this class. Tests are very hard - read the book, study your notes, and pay attention!
She was very passionate about teaching but tests were VERY HARD and she was not clear on what she wanted on assignments at all, I would definitely go with another teacher!
Really smart, will find answers to all of your questions, uses power points that are great. Lots of fun and interesting examples.
She has a daily soap box speech. Be prepared to have her views cramed down your throat everyday. She takes a long time to get your assignments back to you, but tests are pretty easy.
she is the worst teacher i have ever had. she doesn't make things clear and is not helpful. you might as well just read the textbook, because it does a better job of teaching than she does. always says,"it's in the book." don't bother with the c
She's nice and knowledgeable, but her humanistic viewpoints are constantly thrown your way. Tests are somewhat difficult for a 101 class. Says 'right' an amazing amount of times.
tests are a little tough, reports are graded really hard, but she's okay.
Tests are kinda tough for a beginner class but she's Ok, lectures aren't too bad. She *does* say "right" ALL the freaking time though, and I know I'm not the only one that notices it! But overall Ok.
Her tests are VERY VERY difficult. It's hard to figure out exactly what she wants or is asking for. Unless you took a psychology class in high school I would not suggest taking her for your 101 class.
Expects you to get info from the book that is not covered in class.
Dueker is terrible. She is the worst prof I have ever had at GV. Her tests are close to impossible. If you don't know things going into this class, then get to reading because she'll expect you to. I don't recommend her to anyone!
Hard class. Learn lots but tests are very difficult!!!
I had her for Child Psychology and thought she was absolutely brilliant. Yes, she's a hard teacher, but that drove a lot of us in her class to succeed.
She's a new teacher and is always trying to prove that she is a good one. Don't take her she's impossible.
Daily she almost cries because of one reason or another, her tests are impossible and her views are crammed into your head every day. DO NOT take this class!
Very knowledgable. She asks what you want from her as a teacher and tries to give it to you. She's a whisperer and gets very into what she's talking about. A nice lady, but be forewarned, it's a lot of work
She started out very hard and actually eased up a bit in the end. Still, though, more people fail her tests than get A's. She is interesting in her lectures but forces her ideas onto you.
This class is not easy at all. Her tests are extremely hard. If you attend all lectures and do all the assignment you might have a chance at doing ok but if you don't good luck.
Such a good teacher! Very passionate and knowledgable about topic! Loves children. Just read book and take notes...very interesting class!
She is an awesome teacher... if you come to class and do the work you will be fine. She is enthusiastic about what she teaches- and that makes ir more interesting to learn. She knows her stuff and helps everyone in the class to learn it, too.
thanks to her, i have to re-take this freaking class. very unhelpful and does not give a rip about her students. goodluck on the tests because they are impossible. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO GET A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!
tests are tough-got all C's. however, the grades are "weighed"-hard to explain but despite all my C's I managed to get a B overall, so unless you really screw up it should be ok. but STUDY because exams are tough and she knows it.
If you don't want to work don't take her class, but you can learn so much valuable stuff from her. shes very passionate and can really give a lot of insight as well as information on life. shes an amazing woman and her class was interesting and enjoyable
Pretty hard teacher, i have to re-take the class because of her exams. Her exams are SO HARD!!! For warning she does not give her study guides early at all...a couple days before exam. She's always willing to talk to you but it won't help you out!
I am a good student who attends class and studies for tests but for some reason I have failed every test she has given. Her tests have in-depth ridiculous questions and even if you think you know the answer it's probably wrong. Don't take it!
Comes across as very aggressive. Wants you to really know how to break bad habits and social norms. Go to class and her tests are easy. Read the book and know all the vocabulary.
very good teacher. lectures clear and tests not that bad, but you do have to put a lot of time and energy into this class. she is smart and knows what she is talking about
Run away!!! You cover one thing in lectures, read different stuff in the book, study study-guides that are also different, and then take exams that don't look anything like the above. Lec. outlines suck - very hard to follow, no structure to them at all.
Love the prof. very interesting but her test are so hard. The paper saves you. If you are a good test taker take her because you won't regret it.
Very hard exams. She is a nice person and loves her psychology. She has interesting things to say but this class was a lot of work. Other professors do not require as much work.
Avoid taking her at all costs! Tests are impossible. That's all i got to say!
no matter how much i studied i still didnt do good on the test...one thing in lecture, another thing in the book, and no matter how much i thought i knew the ans on the test i still ended up not doing good and i would study my a** off...DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
I have to retake this class because of her. I did the observation project and had the proof that I completed it and she still gave me a D on it...she said I didnt do it!! Tests are too hard and she doesnt communicate well. Take someone else, please!!!
exams very hard. her "study guide" for class somewhat helps. read every chapter, and do quizzes for book online. took in summer, and went over 4 chapters in 1 week. had an exam every week. failed first 2 exams.
She is damn hard for nothing
I just finished up Spring semester with her. I learned a lot from the book. The exams are tough and with only six weeks this class was a challenge. However I still ended up with an A. Make sure you study the book with this prof. You will learn a lot.
Very good at making the class interesting and useful, exams are tough but if you listen to the lectures and take notes on the book you're set
Fun class...you really learn a lot. She tries to make the lectures interesting and relevant to you. Tests aren't that bad, you just need to study your notes and the chapters assigned in the book! Good prof!
A good teacher and a very nice person/ She really knows what she is talking about and tries to make lectures interesting.
Very good personality. Always in a good mood. Very interactive with the class and will do anything to try and answer any questions.
Very good professor. Her tests were hard. If you dont study for the tests, you are screwed!!! I studied really hard on the tests and I still did****ty on some of the tests!
She is a very helpful and clear prof, but definitly kills you on the tests. Make sure you READ THE BOOK and attend class- sometimes she does surprise attendance and you get points for being in class. She is really friendly and will help you in any way possible!
great professor who genuinely cares about her students. Her exams are tough, but she is available to talk with if you need help. Go to Class!!
very clear but she make you work hard on the exams
I felt like her lectures were public safety announcements...blah
she genuinly cares about her students, but she makes you do loads of crap that is a waste of time, and kills you on her exams. if you don't want to work really hard, don't take her class.
Prof D. is awesome! I had a pretty rough semester, but she was more than willing to work with me to make sure I did well in the class. Highly recommended.
She is seriously so awesome! she was willing to help you as much as she could, even if u bombed ur 1st exam (me) helped u study for the next and still achieve a good grade in the class. read the book and study and u'll do fine!
I thought she was a good teacher. She was very helpful and friendly. Her class was a lot of fun.
This class is like a wakeup call "Welcome to college, now study" she's willing to bend over backwards for you just TRY and try hard!!!
Death by power point...No real seriuos content...very elemantary...her agenda clearly shows through her lectures. Watch out Gerber!
I found this class very difficult because I took it once a week. It is hard to stay on everything when you meet once a week because she gives out loads of work, and before you know it... It's DUE!
She acutally makes psychology class interesting by using all sorts of examples, illusions, etc. Tests are difficult, but if you do the reading and take notes, you will do fine.
Deuker is really nice most of the time BUT she seems to have a few favorites. Her exams suck too, i'm an A student and i never got higher than a C on her exams and i studied my butt off. The class is really interesting but if you want an A don't take her.
She loves this topic, so is a good prof. for it. Is very enthusiastic about her work. I like her a lot. Good lectures, makes the observation project do-able, four tests not cumulative and mostly multiple choice. Good prof, recommend. She's fun, interesting, and nice.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Gwenden is a fabulous lecturer and is very serious about her classes. She is passionate and involved, which makes the class all the better. I am, unfortunately, not a Psych major, otherwise I would definitly take her again. Tests are tough though.
She's very knowledgable and passionate about subject - can be overwhelming. Kind of overbearing. Lots of information. Tests were mainly MC with some fill in the blanks and essays. No study guides or review. I didn't like the obs. project at all, was the most difficult part of class for me.
Dont take her! She is very intelligent which is 1/2 of what makes up a good professor but she teaches the class like we're grad students. She has a hard time relating to our age group.I talked to her about my poor grades & all she said was to drop the class instead of encouraging me to keep going!!
Overall, I thought the content was easy. BUT, She gives you way too much homework and it's all due at once. Tests are way too hard and cover too much material. If you want to work your butt off for nothing take her. If you want and A, DON'T!!!!
i really really really liked this class. dueker is so passionate about this subject that it made her lectures very easy to listen to. it is a hard class. you HAVE to read the book, several times (sometimes) to do well on the tests. I got an A, it's not impossible, and the observation project was a lot of fun! TAKE HER!!!!!!!
death by powerpt. no teaching abilities. definite agenda. has favorites, will blacklist everyone else. if you have over a 3.0 GPA you are sure to get less than a C, she likes to ego-bash good students. assignments are anal. expects you to be scientist. short answer on tests way too vague for correct answer. I pity anyone who gets her. stay away.
she's a tough grader, and you have to read the book to do well on her tests, but she's a great teacher. she is very organized and structured, but she still allows for some discussion. she's also a really nice person if you put forth the effort in class
Loves the topic and loves to help. Best professor at Grand Valley as far as I'm concerned. Class is hard but so is life. She's so willing to help. If you dont ask then she doens't know you need it. You can learn a lot from her. Strongly recommend taking her!
If you have this teacher DROP NOW! she is the most confusing teachers there is.she requires you to memorize the book, but refuses to go over the book in class.she rants about her beliefs for the entire class period while you learn nothing.then you will have to take a mulitple choice test that is more confusing than attepmting suicide with a plunger.
This professor is so nice and willing to help. It is a really hard class, but if you do your work and read the book like she TELLS you to, you will do well. Just suck it up and get through the 15 weeks if you need to! :)
seems to like the power more then the teaching
Gwen is a very good prof. She def knows what shes talking about and feels passionatly about it. She is very helpful and encourages her students to meet w/her w/any questions. Very hard grader and not many available points for the classbut just ask for help! So good, i wrote a letter of recommendation for her outstanding teachers award!
plays favorites. should be theaching poly sci classes. very liberal. not GOP frindly.
Wonderful prof. Definitely a challenging class, one of the hardest I've taken, but it's so clear how passionate Gwen is about the subject, it's a pleasure to listen to her lectures, she's very engaging. She's extremely helpful but you have to initiate the conversation. If you're truly interested in psych, rather than just getting a grade, take her!
Extraordinary!! By far my favorite class this semester; definitely my favorite prof. at grand valley so far.
She is a good professor, her class is challenging, but she is very willing to help. She lets her opinions be known, but I never felt pressured to accept them. You can tell she truly cares about children.
She is a very nice lady but I feel she would make a better Psychiatrist than a professor. She tends to preach a bit and get into some subjects a little more than others and more or less give her oppinion than teach them.
Huge workload, expects you to read and know what is in the textbook for her exams although she never teaches from it. Makes her exams VERY difficult. Unless you need to take this class for your major, don't.
Her lectures are very interesting, you can tell she really loves what she does. There aren't many assingments, but the exams are REALLY hard. I studied for weeks for them and never did well. You HAVE to read the book to pass the exams, and you have to come to class to do good.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard and very inconsistent in grading. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about her subject, so it is interesting to hear her lectures. You have to be on your toes if you take this class though--be up for a CHALLENGE!
Worse teacher at GV; people who give good reviews must not have the same teacher I had. I have been here for years and def. the worse teacher I've ever had. Terrible grader, takes forever, and inconsistent. Run, run away quick.
Make sure to READ THE BOOK!!!! She takes a lot of stuff out of it to use on tests. Also, be careful when you choose not to show up for class. This semester only half of the class showed up the period before Thanksgiving, so she decided to give us all bonus points just for coming to class. You will definately have to work in this class.
very very hard class. the tests are long, multiple choice, and try to confuse you. i took it as a night class. she lectured for the entire 3 hours. shes very passionate and definitely knows whats she's talking about, but sometimes she presses her opinions on us too much. to get a good grade, you have to study and read the book. no study guides.
Most boring teacher I've ever had. If you can't handle 3 hour straight lectures, avoid her. Shes really strict about reading the book and expects you to know EVERYTHING in it. Her lectures have nothing to do with whats in the book. Avoid if possible!
I have nothing but good things to say about professor dueker, she is very accomodating, and tries her best to help you out. She's not as hard as everyone says. I'm not a very studious person and i pulled off an 87 on the last test.
She was hard. The test are extremely lengthy. You definitely have to study your notes AND the book. Attendence is not mandatory but you need to attend if you want to do well. She ispassionate and is a kind person. She will help you if you go to her. If you like psych, take her. If you don't, you will find yourself doing more work than you want.
Worst Professor ever. She is not only hard, but unfair. She lectures on one thing and expects you to know all of that and also the entire book. DOes not want you to learn only wants to cram information down your throat. She will will say she wants her students to do well, but she does not do anything to make sure they will. Tests are made to c
Worst teacher I have had yet--people have said she's kind, but she must play favorites big time b/c I didn't think so. Passionate? VERY! But I was afraid to ask questions in front of the class because she always made me and otehrs feel dumb. Most days felt like she was just TRYING to stress us out w/ work. Don't take her!!
ABSOLUTELY HORRID!!! AVOID HER! SHE IS NOT A GOOD NOR UNDERSTANDING PROFESSOR! BAD BAD BAD!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ANYTHING!
ITs death in a class.... never ever.... i repeat NEVER take her if you have an option to take someone else....PLEASE STAY AWAY for your own sake and sanity... She cannot teach and she will not help you out ... she is unclear about her assignments and her exams are next to impossible... her exams are way too long and you will never have enough time
Professor Dueker is the best professor I've had! She is knowledgable in her field and genuinely wants her students to learn the materials. Her tests are difficult, but she DOES say that she focuses heavily on the reading. Her lectures are very interesting. I would suggest taking her if are interested in psychology and actually want to learn more
TERRIBLE TEACHER!!! SHE ACTUALLY USED A TEXTBOOK THAT WE DID NOT STUDY FOR THE FIRST TWO TESTS! TERRIBLE TEACHER!
Gwenden was definitely not a great teacher... she's balls deep about Psychology but doesn't know how to teach it. She inserts her own personal bias into everything she talks about instead of presenting information. Not an easy Gen Ed. I had prior psych experience and it still was tough to get a decent grade. I would take a diff. prof.
I loved her class. She was really fun and interesting. Her tests are kinda difficult but her class was worth it.
Professor Dueker is a very nice women, I feel she helps you when you have questions. She likes to relate what we are learning to her experiences and our own so as to understand better. Professor Dueker is a good professor and I highly reccommend her.
She is a very bad teacher and doesnt really teach anything except for reading powerpoint slides and tellin life stories. and the she just tells you to read the book, i would strongly advise not having her as your teacher. And the tests are super hard and over 5 chapters at a time and all from the book. its rediculous
Professor Deuker is a really good teacher and knows what she is talking about. She relates topics with real research to help make concepts more clear. She is definitely very knowledgeable. Although her tests are IMPOSSIBLE!! read the booK!!!! she takes lots of info from the book, if you dont read the sections you WILL NOT pass the tests.
she is really helpful if your a 1st time psyc student
She seemed nice at first, but it quickly became clear that she wasn't very good. Her tests are way too hard due to poorly chosen questions (half of them are about specific & inconsequential stuff from the book) and she spends a quarter of the time ranting about her own morals and trying to persuade us.
Prof has very hard tests. Many questions come from information either in the book buried, or from information that is very obscure. The class is about psychology and the first half of the semester is spent studying the scientific method and what scientists do..... overall.... C-
I think she is a great teacher. There is a lot of reading, but i like how the class is set up. I got a 93% and a 97% on the second test so far. They are far from impossible
Be prepared to everything yourself in this class. No study guides, no slide shows, or any useful information will be given, it's all up to you!
Very interesting class, taught well - she is very enthusiastic about psychology. Lectures are helpful, but the tests are difficult, especially if you don't read the textbook. But it certainly isn't an impossible class, and overall I would recommend it. She is very willing to help, and there are a decent number of easy in-class points to be earned.
Hard tests and one really big project that takes a lot of time but she's really clear and organized. If you're a psych major it's really interesting but if you're taking it for Ed you might want to find a different class...it's very time consuming.
Hardest class ever!! She whispers when she talks about certain things making it hard to hear! Makes you feel terrible for being alive due to certain problems in the world, and makes you feel like its your fault. Reading from the book is the main thing you do in that class and in order to get a good grade in class,u need to spend 100+ hours reading
Professor Dueker is a very sweet woman. She is always willing to help. She lectures a lot, but encourages discussion. She is organized and expects you to be the same. Her tests are difficult, but she will help if you go to her before hand. Plus, she lets you use a full sheet of paper to hand write ANYTHING on for the final! Definitely recommend!
Horrible class! PSY101 should be an easy A & is with a lot of other professors, but not this one. Exams are impossible-they cover everything from lecture & the book & your tested on the smallest details possible. Doesn't "believe" in reviewing for tests or study aides. Don't take this Prof if you don't have too....
I loved this class! Yes, the tests are difficult, but this professor is the best! Cannot wait to have her in upcoming psy classes. Read the book, study, go to class = at least a B.
Hard class, but it is very intiresting. You really have to study your lecture notes AND the book to do decent on the tests. She is a great professor and knows her stuff! If you want to learn a lot of intiresting facts in this subject take her, but STUDY!
She is not a good teacher and isn't very organized. She cancelled class 3 times before our first test so it was only over 2 chapters. Then the other 2 exams were over 5 or 6 chapters. Her lectures are ok but her fill-in notes seem to make everyone disorganized.
She was really hard. I am,,, was a straight A student, and she honestly expected too much from us. Her exams were extremely difficult, and I studied my butt off. This is just a warning, and she won't give you any warnings what so ever. You better know what you're getting into. This class dropped my GPA dramatically.
DROP HER CLASS WHILE U CAN!
Oh God! Don't take ANYTHING with her. She rambles on in class with nothing being said. The group projects are a joke. More or less wants you to teach yourself from the book so she can get a paycheck. Her tests are HARD & when the WHOLE class does bad she doesn't understand because she "taught" us. What a joke of a teacher!
Do Not take this professor unless you are interested in the moral of HER stories. she spends to much time trying to teach morals and not enough time teaching psychology. her exams are impossible and she is NIT~PICKY! if you know what is good for you avoid her at all costs!!!
One of the worst PSY teachers ever! Exams are impossible, and all she does is talk about what she thinks. She never updates grades until last minute, and her requirements for her paper are the stupidest thing ever. Avoid taking her any of her classes.
This professor is really not as bad as all the comments say. I was really nervous going it to her class because of all the negative comments. If you attend class and especially read the book and take notes you can get an A. You are obviously going to have to put effort in and study but it is definitely possible!
I took this class as a 6-9 and failed. Went to every class and took a ton of notes. Her powerpoints weren't on the tests.
One of the WORST professors I've ever had! I went to every class, took good notes, studied hard and still did poorly. Exams are extremely difficult and aren't over anything 'taught' in class. She lectures on her own beliefs and not on important material so expect to teach yourself. Do NOT take her!
The worest teacher ever! Please Don't take her, she is the worest and her test is impossible. I am very smart and I had the worest grade F. Don't take her take my advise!
She hardly teaches anything that is on the exams. You mostly have to teach yourself by memorizing the book. Her lectures and powerpoints cover very little of the exams (which are very hard).
Blahhh. She did nottt appeal to me. She rambles about the powerpoints yet the exams are totally worded in ways your don't understand and she relates everything back to herself. It's boring ass crap too. I don't recommend her. But I guess to be nice she did teach the material well.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! All of her lectures are fairly interesting but none of the material is on the exam! The exams are very, very diffcult no matter the amount of studying you put in. Pretty good teacher I'd say, but her exams are ridiculous.
This teacher was horrible. Her lectures never went with her tests and were insanely hard. Her final exam had all obscure questions. I slaved over my observation project and miserably failed. She was one of the worst teachers I have ever had including high school.
I LOVED this class. The project in this class is pretty time consuming, but as far as projects go it's somewhat interesting. If you are having trouble in her class, go to office hours and she will give you study tips. Very helpful professor, just show her that you are trying. She expects great things from all her student. Take her class!
Her classes were ridiculous. We just heard her opinion on everything, and most had nothing to do with psychology, inluding a literally 45 minute lecture on the benefits of breast milk over formula. Her exams have nothing to do with her letures and were way too difficult for a 101 class.
If you have a choice do NOT take her! Her lecture material is never on the exams. The exams are impossibly hard, even if you study a ton. Her teaching is decent, but it's really her exams that make me hate the class.
Very interesting class but very hard. There was a lot to remember for each exam. The exams were IMPOSSIBLE. She knows a lot about the topic and feels very strongly about certain topics. But her exams were very confusing and very hard.
I took this professor my freshman year, and am now entering my senior year. This class made me change my major to psych. It is A LOT of work, but because of it every following class I've taken has been easier, just because I learned so much from her. If you are a psy major, take her! So worth it!
She's nice, but her class is very hard. Lectures do not cover everything you need to know for exams. You learn a lot, but even with studying its hard.
Everything everyone has said I totally agree with. Her exams are so hard and you NEED to read the book to do better on the test, what she gives you in notes is not enough. She is very strongly opinionated, especially about children and research..that's all we talk about
She certainly knows what she is talking about. Her lecture material is interesting, but her tests are horribly hard!! No matter how much you study, you won't be ready for them. She only lectures about 20% of what is on the exams. Super nice though!
Yes, her tests are difficult and yes, the project is a lot of work, but you're in college. If all you're striving for is an A, you're setting yourself up for failure. She's very passionate about her job and definitely knows what she's talking about. Read the book, attend lecture, and take the project seriously and you'll get at least a B.
Her tests are impossible, the project is ridiculously unnecessary, and she doesn't communicate in a manner that is understandable. She is very passionate about what she teaches and is knowledgeable in the subject, but it takes more than that to be a good professor. Would not take this professor again.
NOT A BAD PROF IF YOU WORK HARD. Her lectures are very interesting and she is passionate about her work. If you want to get an A it's easy, just read the book, come to class and study. If you know the lectures and book, you will ace the class. Simple as that.
Super cool! Nice person.. Tests are "iffy" just make sure you take notes but most of all READ THE BOOK and you should be fine. The tests are multiple choice. There are a few group assignments easy to do. She's very passionate about the subject. I would suggest her.
I was terrified of the first test after reading all the comments on here. It really was not very difficult. You do have to read the book, she straight up tells you that. She is VERY helpful in office hours and wants everyone to succeed. Study hard and go to class. She tries to help you pass. Definitely looking forward to taking her for 301.
Her lectures are extremely interesting and she definitely loves what she does, but her tests are very difficult if you do not read every part of the book.
I studied so hard and could barely earn credits for it. She never answered my emails and always pushed my questions aside. She was never in her office hours when I set up an appointment with her. She'll pick out the most fine print questions from the textbook to put in her tests. Read the book carefully and A LOT!!! She's clear, just not the best.
Lectures are interesting, but tests are ridiculously hard! I studied so much and read the book, but still had trouble receiving anything above a B- on tests. She is not very helpful and never responds to emails. Make sure you read the book and basically memorize it!! I do not recommend her at all.
Very passionate about Children and tells you very interesting and useful knowledge. She isn't very good at giving direction in test review or the big research project. Must read book to do well on exams.
Very good professor, knows what she is talking about and is very helpful. She wants to see you do well.
Please do not take her. She is extremely boring and she talks way too much. She does not give any homework which is bad when her test is hard. You basically have to teach yourself and read the whole psychology book.
So after the first exam my class was furious. She lectures in a simple clear manner but the tests are structured as if you are a psychology major. The class average for exam 1 was a C, but everyone I spoke to got a lower than 70/100. If your class average is that bad, you seriously need to rethink your methods.
Incredibly intelligent and passionate professor, and I learned so much from her. That said, she is INCREDIBLY tough. She's the type of professor who expects you to know and understand everything. No matter how hard I studied, her tests seemed impossible. Great teacher, tough test creator.
She is a very passionate and good professor. I got a lot out of taking her class, but it was not easy. If you are looking to actually learn something take her but its not an easy A.
She is a very good professor but is very, very hard. Her tests (especially the final) were some of the hardest tests I have ever taken (not the subject matter but how they were written). You can tell she loves what she does but expects a lot out of students. Don't take her for an easy A but take her if you really want to learn
It's true: her class is tough and she has high expectations but nothing that isn't attainable with hard work. This is a college course and she requires college level work. Attendance not mandatory but does in class assignments that will affect your grade and does not post notes online. She was awesome in office hours and extremely helpful.
Dueker was by far my favorite professor of the semester. She may rant a little on topics she feels strongly about, but that helped me remember the material better. She also gives you the chance to use a note card on every exam which is great because it takes away a lot of stress of the exams.
She knows what she's talking about. Definitely. Little homework. Lecture every day going through the chapter. Reading the book will help, but isn't life or death. She uses research to do whats best for the class.
This prof is very passionate. She obviously found what she loves and it makes her lectures interesting. She uses outlines (which I suggest using because its easier to make your notecard for the exams) and if you miss a day you better have a buddy to get the notes from. She wont hold your hand and remind you to read your book.
Class is alright, she doesn't give out any type of review for any of her tests which makes it somewhat difficult. Reading the chapters is expected, as some of the test questions cover material from the book. Not a lot of in class assignments, however, she does give out some random ones.
Lectures are really interesting! Make sure to read your textbook because that's where a majority of the test questions come from! Make sure to listen clearly in lecture as she does move pretty fast!
This has been my favorite professor thus far (in my fourth semester) in college. She relates everything super clearly to current issues. Other than exams she didn't give that many assignments, nor group work. I skipped class probably 10+ times throughout the semester and still did better than most. Would take her for every course if I could.
Prof Dueker was an amazing professor! She was always willing to help in her office hours and really wanted you to have a good grade. Her tests were very tough, you have to study a lot and read the book! If you try hard, you will pass with a good grade. But she definitely expects highly and wants students to give it their all.
Dueker is INSPIRING! If you have a general love for psychology, people and want to change the world by doing good... TAKE HER! Her exams are hard, but she has SO many little assignments that you just have to try at to get close to full credit. Be in class. Read the book. Study! The final is harder than the first two. Dueler loves teaching, take her
Professor Dueker is a wonderful woman. I could tell that she had passion for Psychology. However, I don't think the methods she used were very helpful. I felt like I never had a single idea what would be on the tests and she didn't really give a whole lot of explanation for our massive project. I felt like I was in the dark for most of the class.
Expect to read all of textbook. Exams are tough.
Tests are super hard and she likes to talk about her opinions. Not recommended if you are looking for an easy professor.
Just studying the material won't help you here. She makes you interperet the data.
I thought her lectures were very inspirational and I could tell she really loved what she did. The downfall was that there weren't any review sheets for exam. But, you could use a notecard. This class is a combination of learning the book material, following and understanding the lectures and putting the two together.
This professor is never clear about what is expected of you on assignments. The exams are over nothing you cover in class and reading the textbook doesn't even help. You're also required to do a research project/paper, which she grades really hard and doesn't give you much to go on. Also doesn't email you back no matter what you email about!!
She really loves what she teaches. Tests are very difficult. A lot is from the book and the notes. Make sure you pay attention to what she says, not everything is in the power point. you my also have to read more in depth in the book to understand concepts. You can use a note card and she gave a lot of extra credit on a test that we bombed.
She was amazing. Never opened the book, everything is based on her lectures. She is very clear and exams are very easy, no homework other than watching a few Ted talks, she was really there for the students and wanted to see them succeed.
Very passionate about psychology, and very sweet. Tests were very tough and required lots of studying. Used lots of examples from class on test, so you should show up and take notes. The textbook was useless, but she still recommends to do the readings. Go see her in office hours if your first test isn't good, she'll help you get better.
She is very passionate about psychology, and will often go on actually interesting tangents while also still covering all the material. The tests are easy if you actually pay attention and do minimal reading. She also allows notecards on tests and tries to work with how students will tend to psychologically think to help them.
Professor Dueker is a solid choice. She tends to ramble during lectures but you can tell she's just very passionate about the subject. Attendance is important because she gives a lot of easy points for in-class assignments, and doesn't post lectures online. The way she designs exams can be tricky so be sure to use the textbook and study!
Very passionate professor but her exams are very difficult. No matter how well you think you know the material, her exams will screw you anyways. Loved her as a person but would not take her again as a prof.
Amazing prof! I would recommend her to anyone taking the class. As long as you read the book and do minimal studying, you will do well on the exams. If you don't read/study, you won't pass. She is very informational and you will learn so much from her.
I liked Gwen as a person and found her lectures interesting, but I personally did not understand her testing style. All questions are multiple choice. Class average for exams were typically around an 80% and she does not curve. I recommend reading the book for a deeper understanding of the material.
Dueker is a really nice lady and she is passionate about research, but this class was so hard. She was not helpful in meeting with students unless it was convenient for her. She saved the paper for the last like 2 weeks of class and crammed it into such a short time. Tests were really hard and if it is not exactly right she will take all points off
She is very dedicated and passionate about psychology. There are 3 tests throughout the semester and a cumulative final. Also there are a few Ted talks assigned that you have to watch outside of class. I loved her as a prof, she was very clear and gave many different examples.
Professor Dueker is a phenomenal psychology professor. I previously took psych 101 with a different prof and almost failed the class because it was so hard. Professor Dueker genuinely cares about the topic and her students success. As long as you go to class and take good notes you'll pass no problem. I ended up with a B+ in class.
Prof. Dueker is a great teacher. The lectures felt a bit long, but she covers everything so that when you read the book to study for the test it feel more like enrichment than learning. She speaks very passionately on developmental psych and has plenty of experiences in it. The tests have emphasis on practical application more than textbook.
She had lot's of enthusiasm for the subject which was refreshing and made it easier to pay attention in class. I actually enjoyed sitting and listening to her lecture's even though she lectures the entire class. She's a great person and very intellectual about the topic but the tests were just really tough -you need to know the nitty gritty details
This class is a lot of work - or at least more than I expected. Read the textbook in detail and pay attention during lecture and you'll be fine. It's not complicated to understand, just a lot of information to know.
If you go to class and read the book the course is very straight forward. Interesting material and an extremely passionate professor. She wants her students to succeed and is very helpful if you ask.
Her lectures are very entertaining and I enjoy going to them. The exams on the other hand and very difficult. I would not recommend if you're a bad test taker.
Professor Dueker was one of my favorite professors. I enjoyed going to her class and learned so much interesting information. Her lectures are engaging and she does a great job teaching and explaining the information. She is very clear and easy to talk to.
I really enjoyed this class! She made me feel like she really cared about my experiences as a student and how well I understood the material. Pay attention and do the reading. You should be fine!
She cares about her students but she is not a good prof. DO NOT TAKE HER!! she lost so many of my papers and you never know how to study for her exams they are impossible (flashcards don't help). I saw terrible reviews when first registered for her class and I thought the students just did poorly but if you care about your GPA AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
The exams for this class are extremely difficult. I studied for hours for each of them and never did as well as I expected. I even went to her office hours multiple times to get help on what I should study, but her advice didn't help at all! You also do a big research project which was rushed into the last couple weeks of the class. I was STRESSED.
Exams are difficult and require you to have a good understanding of material. Lots of reading and homework. Very opinionated!! Interesting class but can be challenging.
I have never received a C yet in my college career. Avoid this class if you want to save your GPA. A large project was assigned in the last 3 weeks of class and was very rushed. The tests are extremely difficult no matter how hard you study. There also aren't many extra points that are offered with homework assignments, so grade depends on tests.
I am on the pre-med track, and this class by far was more work THAN ANY OTHER CLASS I'VE HAD. Exams were SO TOUGH, and I am a very efficient studier. She assigns lots of random papers with a few days notice that take hours to complete. Also a big research paper at the end (which we found out 2 weeks before its due) on top of 4 exams total.
She is a very smart lady and is passionate about what she does. To be able to do good on her exams, you have to study very hard. All exam questions are application questions which makes it very difficult. there is a lot of homework that's only worth 4 points. hard class but you will learn a lot.
Loved her. Didn't love the subject but no one does. She's at least willing to move class along when people ask stupid questions. It's a lot of work but it's not hard if you pay attention. And she actually cares about students. This semester showed that for sure.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable and passionate about her field. It's a very heavy workload but not terribly difficult
I am taking this class online and it's just getting to be too much. I am a pre-nursing student and I thought I would have had more homework in anatomy or chemistry, nope! She gives out so much homework and has stuff due on days we don't even have class. 3 assignments a week and tons of reading. Time-consuming and just straight up annoying.
im taking this class online and its just confusing. we haven't had any exams the entire semester, only short quizzes and assignments. and now we have a project and a final exam? on what? She also doesn't grade and no one knows what their overall grade is. I could be failing right now and have no idea bc some grades still aren't in from sept. ugh
This class is a lot of work, but it is very interesting & you can tell Prof D is passionate about what she does. You do need to do a lot of reading & she does assign a couple of assignments each week but it is to be expected bc this is a 300 level class. She did give us a lot of grace this semester bc of COVID which was nice. Overall solid choice.
A very nice professor who gave us a lot of breaks due to COVID. A lot of lectures and ted talks that are pretty long but the tests aren't overly easy and there are plenty of grades that go in to protect you from one bad assignment or test.
She had three parts to a module each week which typically consist of a lecture, quiz, and an assignment. That's right... three parts! I felt like this professor ignored the fact that her students were in more than just this class and we hardly ever got a break. I personally would never take her again or recommend her to another classmate.
She has a great background in this subject and has some interesting stories but teaches off opinion of herself. All of her tests are based off her own opinion not what the book or data tells you. Never emails back and does not post material. Super slow at getting through the material. We missed seven chapters. Would not take her again.
Prof. Dueker is a pretty good professor but sometimes could be very opinion-oriented on the topic she was teaching. We had a quiz and at least 1 assignment almost every week, which was expected. Neither were too hard. She lectures most of the time in class and allots about 25 min at the end for group work if done in class. Would take again.
Prof. D's quizzes are either copied off of Quizlet or a question that's worded very oddly. Her quizzes are not accurate to what she teaches in class. Her lectures are like persuasive TedTalks, and she doesn't follow what other Life Span classes are teaching. This class is a duplicate of Child Development. Wouldn't take it again, esp. w/ Prof. D.
This was a new class about human resilience and trauma. Prof was very helpful & clear on what needed to be done. She is also very caring & graceful with her students. Blackboard can be a little confusing at times. You can tell how passionate she is about what she teachers! She is v helpful to her students & really likes to connect with them
She's a great person, but it can be super hard to take her class. If you're a bad test taker DONT TAKE HER otherwise you will do bad. Her assignments are pretty simple, show up to class, and ask for help when needed. Her lectures are great but not purposeful. Grades extremely slow and is not the best at time-management.
Definitely a tough class with a heavy workload, but if you put in the effort and use helpful study tools like unstuckstudy ai, you can do well. Lectures are engaging, and the professor cares about students' success.
I think all psychology classes are boring. Mostly reading from slides and books. This class was awful. Teacher was enthusiastic she liked the class she was teaching. She is very political and I questioned more than often if the information she was telling me is creditable. This class was NOT life span development. Rather child development.
Even though I felt the structure of this class was disorganized at some points, Professor D is a very passionate individual. She wants you to learn and be educated on things that will matter long term and can help you contribute to society. I loved her energy. You will want to make sure you show up to class. The tests are interesting but doable.
Is a very tough grader but is very passionate about what she does. She does not have clear instructions most of the time, and her lectures are not very useful. Attendance isn't mandatory, but a lot of in-class activities that will bring your grade down.
Gives you the note sheet, easy to follow along, but tests aren't clear on the info provided. She made us write the first study guide and nothing students wrote was on exam, does give cheat sheet. If you're a bad test taker, DON'T TAKE. Little in class activies/HW to get your grade up if you do bad. She's nice but you have to know what you're doing
Grades took forever to be put in. She was not very willing to hear what students needed and refused to change anything about the class to help students. Class is insanely test heavy and she makes tests incredibly tough. Don't take this class with her.
This class didn't need to be this hard. The professor just doesn't even try.
She provides you a note sheet for each chapter that is easy to follow along but she refuses to post lecture slides so if you miss something you're screwed. She made us write the first study guide and nothing we wrote was on exam. She does allow a cheat sheet. She is super nice but if you're not a good test and quiz taker I wouldn't recommend.
