CLASS WAS HUGE. IT WAS EXTREMELY INTERESTING HER TEST WERE KINDA DIFFICULT MADE B'S ON ALL OF THEM. GO TO CLASS SHE GIVES RANDOM EXTRA CREDIT. QUIZZES WERE EASY. SHE WAS VERY NICE. I WOULD TAKE HER AGAIN AND AGAIN

she is an amazing teacher! i had her last semester for general biology and loved her! i am def. taking her plant class later! she explains everything and relates it to real life so you will understanad it better. do the group option, it helps a lot!
She is very hard and not because the class is hard but because there is so much work to do. Her tests do not match the material learned, the questions are hard and got to deep into the information. You do not get study guides or any guide lines you have to read the whole chapter and hope you know enough for the tests. I would not recommend taking.
Awesome professor. Had for for the lab, which is not a fun class but mandatory and she did everything she could to help. Would definitely recommend her.
DO NOT TAKE.I had her only for the lab.You will be there the whole 3 hrs, and spend hours working on her lab reports and studying.I went to her 3 times for help on 1 lab report that she said was fine and made a 70 on it.She constantly talks down to you,gets angry when you ask a simple question,and takes enjoys giving students bad grade.

This class was A LOT of information and A LOT of busy work. There are 3 quizzes and 4 tests . I passed all 3 quizzes and 3/4 tests, A average on reading guides and masteringbiology and still received a C in the class, and she is very sarcastic and rambles. Not recommended !
This class honestly wasn't hard at all as long as you came to class everyday and followed her outlines. The tests were just the outlines revised... wasn't really that bad.
I have her in the big class. We had group assigned and seat as well. There were 3 tests and 3 quizzes. They were kinda tricky, but not bad as all. I found some mastering biol questions on the test! I also had her as lab instructor. We had weekly quiz and they are all fill in the blanks. But her instruction for lab report was very detail.
She is a fantastic teacher but very difficult. Does not curve grades despite test averages below a 60 and offers very little meaningful extra credit. She was very polite during the times I spoke with her but I did notice she was short with people who were demanding. Would overall not recommend her as you can find less headache elsewhere.
Dr. Carroll is actually really nice! A lot of people go into this class thinking it will be a cake walk but it is to weed out people for Pre-Med. Tests are of average quality but she does study sessions before every test. She also offers plenty of other grades to help balance out bad test grades
Took her for principles of Biology II during the spring semester of my freshman year in 2012. A nice Lady who was pleasant to talk to but easily the worst Biology professor ive ever had. Teaches irrelevant info in lecture and provides very little help during office hours. Test Averages for every test were all in the 50-60 range. Would not recommend

Honestly the worst Biology professor I've ever had. She was very confusing in her lecture. She purposely put questions on the test to confuse us. And if a majority of the class got a question wrong, say 95% of the class, she called the class stupid. Rather then thinking her teaching method was wrong. You have to take her, there is no other option.
I'm a biology major and I transfered to GSU, not all my credits did so I had to take this class, it was essentially a review for me and let tell you she is one of the worst biology professors I have had here at gsu or at any school... does not know the materials very well, for petes sake she told the entire class birds are reptiles... hello Aves?!?
Overall not to bad, have had worse. Lots of busy work and events she forces you to go to. She is really disorganized so assignments are often forgotten or not posted. Go to class and get the participation points!
Not the most pleasant teacher. Test are hard and you can never be sure what to expect. Trick questionsconfusing. SI sessions are helpful and mastering biology homework is also a good guide. She is more than happy to make you feel stupid with a question you ask in lecture. So think before you speak.
Tests can be hard, but she gives you everything you need to know well in advance to be successful. SI sessions are helpful and allow for extra credit. She goes uses a lot of case studies in class that helps you remember the info. She comes across as unapproachable in class but is very pleasant and happy to help if you schedule office hours.
Dr. Carroll is a tough professor. She is not just going to give you a grade. While her test are hard, there is many other options to earn points that will help your average if you try. READ THE TEXTBOOK!! GO TO CLASS!! It is not impossible to do well in this course if you put in the effort.
Good teacher. A lot of key points that will be tested aren't even mentioned in lecture. But in her defense, the course covers a lot more than can be discussed in class. My best advice is to KNOW HER VOCAB LISTS like the back of your hand. increased my test from a C to a high A. Seems unapproachable in class, but more than happy to help in office.
Dr. Carroll was decent, I enjoyed her lectures. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS! IF you have the massive lecture, she uses the iclicker for attendance. And those clicker points can eat at your grade if you don't go to class. Also she has in class assignments. Homework is weekly. Some questions from the mastering homework are on the quizzes and test.

She also, intentionally and admittedly puts questions on the tests just to trick you. I do not recommend her for anyone.
She's a little unapproachable, but she goes over lot in class. Her directions are not always clear. Did more work for this class and lab combined than any other class I had. You have to study notes, do homework, and she wants you to learn these things on your own as a study skill.

Dr. Carroll seemed to make this class harder than necessary. Some of the clicker questions depend on your knowledge of obscure words you don't learn in class and her tests are littered with very tough questions. I would take Dr. Mathews over Dr. Carroll any day. She has plenty of available time offered to students but she doesn't give out hints
I am the pre-med that Dr. Carroll wants to weed out. Her test are fair if you study a lot and understand complex vocab. However, she is the least approachable professor I've had thusfar. I went to her office for clarification and felt intimidated, disrespected, and talked down to.

She'll give a tick question on the test and assume everyone should get it right, or the students are wrong. She doesn't think she's wrong. Beware of clicker questions, they will be very tricky. Pay close attention to everything she says while still taking notes at the same time.
Her BIO2108 is the reason I changed my major. Make sure you go to class every day because of clicker points & pop-quizzes. Tests are awfully hard.
There was a lot of information in a short period of time for this class so you need to stay on top of everything. Very vocabulary heavy. She was pretty unapproachable and intimidating.
She made me hate going to class. She was rude to students. If you and her didnt have the same opinion she would ignore your thoughts, because she thought she knew everything. Would not recommend her for any class.
Dr. Carroll's goal seems to be to fail you unless you put in the effort. Clicker and Test questions are almost always made to trip you up, and her lectures alone isn't enough to pass you. The key to passing is doing well on MasteringBio, going to S.I., and doing well on group assignments. If you can avoid her period, you'll be much better off.
The tests are super hard, but homework counts as a test grade. Homework is out of 100 points, but do extra homeworks because she gives you extra points at the end of the semester. Class isn't mandatory, but she does clicker points and in class assignments almost every class. SI is required, but she offers extra credit in there too!
Dr. Carroll is an amazing professor. Going into this semester I was nervous to take her class because of all the things I had heard about her, however, she quickly became one of my favorite professors of the semester. She was different from my other professors in the way she conducted her lecture, but she is willing to work if you are.

This class has 3 Exams and 3 Quizzes all worth a bulk of your grade. You can only earn 10-14 extra credit points throughout the entire course. You will be put into a permanent group for the entire semester. If you want an A in BIO 2 DO NOT TAKE HER!! THE FINAL WAS WAS RIDICULOUSLY HARD WITH A WRITTEN PORTION.
If you are a Biology major this is likely the only professor available to take Bio II with and she is not the greatest professor. Extra credit is every where, in your SI sessions and in class as extra clicker points. Test are hard and are applications more than memorization. You take quizzes in groups. would not take again.
Looking for an easy A? Forget about it. If you're looking to learn A LOT and put in the work, I highly recommend her. Learned more than I have from any course thus far. Her clicker ?s are meant to trip you up, and tests are application of the material, which is more difficult. She can be a bit sassy, but if you're really trying, she'll work w/ you.

I took Dr. Carroll for Bio 2. She was not a very pleasant professor to have. Her lectures were not very good and were kind of disorganized. She is a tough grader. The tests were hard and mainly consistent of application rather than memorization. Test questions were hard to understand sometimes. I recommend taking another professor for Bio 2.
Worst professor ever. I'm serious. It seems like Dr. Carroll doesn't want a single student to pass. She is the least empathetic, most discouraging professor I have ever had. I knew that her tests would be application based, but these tests were a whole new level. Our class's test averages were usually failing. Do not recommend.

i had her for FYE and I dont know too much about how she is in biology but I know that shes not a great teacher overall and its not just biology. I managed to struggle in the class that was supposed to be a gimme because she gives dozens of random assignments without warning or explanation and then grades based on her own opinions
There arent enough words to describe how much I hated this class. I am a hardworking student who has failed everything in this class. Her test questions are made to trick you. Ive never met a less approachable & discouraging professor. Test averages were always failing and she told us we shouldnt even bother trying after a certain amount of time
Dr. Carrol is very by the book. The textbook is unnecessarily expensive. When I went to office hours she did give me a resource within class to use for tests. Does not take any excuses. Will say one thing about a topic when we never discussed it and will be on the test. I will never take this class again. Never be a biology major after this course.
Dr. Carroll is absolutely terrible. I am a sophmore Chemistry major, and before taking Dr. Carroll's Bio 2, the only classes that I haven't made an A in are Calc 1 and 2. That being said, I thought all of the rumors about her were dramatic and she couldn't be that bad. Long story short, she is that bad. An A in her class is impossible. Don't do it.
Horrible! Avoid taking this professor at all costs. I hated her for FYE so I could only imagine how awful she would be for Biology. She was very unorganized, tasks were not clear, inconsiderate, and not passionate at all. First Year experience is supposed to be an easy A class but she made it way more difficult than it had to be.
If you like your GPA, don't take her. All these posts are true. I'm a Sophomore and had a 4.0 GPA before her class. I attended EVERY CLASS and SI and ended with a B. She does not care about her students and it's made very clear to you everyday in class. The tests are hard and clicker points don't count unless you get it right. DON'T TAKE HER!!!

Attendance is taken with iClickers. You dont get participation by just answering the questions, based on accuracy. Will not recommend.
I promise you you will regret not taking my review seriously. In-office hours she will help you a lot and then when she grades the assignment she helped you with you'll get a low grade as if she wasn't the one that helped you with it. Hard to access outside of class. Very difficult. Her test questions are paragraphs. Very Specific. Don't take her.
This woman is the most hateful, disrespectful professor (or maybe even person) I have ever had. I am doing well in the class so far, but no thanks to her. I was scared to take her class because of the bad ratings she has, but I did good in the class. The iclicker questions can be tough so you should study before class. I used all that was provided and did well on the exam. There were no surprise questions that we did not go over. If you study and understand everything for the exam, you will do good.
I didn't like the way that Professor Carroll taught, I don't learn well from just lecturing. The resources she provided didn't seem to help and the exams were covered over content that was discussed once or twice at most. The homework was beneficial at times however, when it was time for an exam I never felt ready. I highly recommend doing SI.

A fantastic Prof but the class is HARD. There really is a lot to learn and you have to come to class. She does give extra credit. She wants to see people succeed but oftentimes people don't come to class and don't study, they will blame it on her and be really disrespectful. As long as you take responsibility you will do well in the class.
This class is hard. Going to class is important because the lectures are fast paced and material heavy. The clicker questions can be tricky but you get many opportunities to get points elsewhere. For tests you must apply your learning. Definitely take SI she was the reason I did so well in the class. I personally really liked the professor.
The way she teaches and set up the class is the only reason its so hard. Her test are way more complex than what she teaches in class, so youll have to make sure to study from the text book and attend SI to see previous questions to get an idea of what to do.

She is an AWFUL professor and is very rude to her students but there are only 2 quizzes and 2 test. The quizzes you do individually then with a group and she averages them out which helped a lot and the tests are really hard. You also get points for in class questions, homework and going to SI meetings( I learned more in there than the class)
She does not pull her punches on tests. She asks hard applied knowledge questions. You need to know the material well as you don't have much time on tests. My biggest challenge was figuring out how to effectively study for the class; theres a lot to sift through. I am not a fan of this class or her style at all, but the grading system IS lenient.
The way she lectures is so unorganized. Instead of focusing on all characteristics of one protist, plant, etc. before moving to the next one, we would talk some about it, then 15 slides later come back to it and talk more about it. I just quit taking notes in class and took my own afterwards by sifting through the slides and organizing it myself.
Dr. Carroll is a pretty cool professor, and I liked her teaching but there are a few pointers if you take her: you work in groups, her test questions make you think REALLY deep, her lectures/PowerPoints are scattered, and she does a lot of IClicker questions. However, she is a really good professor with a good amount of buffer points.
Make sure you attend every lecture, she's very cool and chill. If you need help attend her office hours she's very helpful
Carroll cares for her students more than any other professor I have seen. If you come to her lectures and you interact with her class then you will leave with a good grade and a great experience. Bio 1108 is in itself on the more difficult side but she lightens the blow and helps you through it.
Dr. Carrol is AMAZING. She is so funny, and her lectures are so engaging. The groups make the class SO much easier and it helps your quiz grades a lot. It may seem like a lot of course work, but its only due once a week and they don't take that long. She is helpful and makes sure that all of the content gets covered. Make sure you go to SI!

Attendance isn't mandatory but there are clicker questions that are factored into your grade. If you don't attend class it's going to be very difficult to understand the material since the class is very challenging. She is not good at all and you'll most likely be crying the night before a test trying to study.

I am newly graduated and am here to review the worst class I ever took. Prof. Carroll did not know how to create multiple choice questions, berated several students for asking very normal questions, mocked a student's accent, and her lectures were completely incomprehensible. I dropped out of premed I was so burnt out and confused after her class.
Probably the worst teacher I've ever had. Does not care about her students at all, in fact she likes to makes this harder for us. One time I went to her for help and I left crying because of how demeaning and rude she was. She made me feel worthless for asking questions that she's had already covered or that I should have known.
The grading scheme was not clear at all and she is very rude Would make students cry after leaving her office hours and not care. Test are multiple test but are hard and make no sense you also have assigned groups in her class and must sit with them everyday in the same spot she chooses

She does iClicker questions every class and even if you are there answering them if you get them wrong they either are half credit or do not count. She forced all of her students to come to an exam at 8 during a flash flood warning that recommended individuals in the area to stay in place. She makes students feel as though they cannot ask questions and makes it her goal to make them as miserable as possible. No regard to creating a positive learning environment.
As an A student I'm struggling. You will be worried about iClicker questions the whole class preventing you from learning the material. If you get the question wrong it does not count even though we just learned the material.
A lot of information is covered in lecture and the tests are worded so different and complex that on our fisrt test the lowest grade for the class was a 12.
She wants you to attend every class for credit which go towards your grade. She is lecture heavy and you will sometimes have to teach yourself the material. The test that she has never correlates with the SI sessions that's built into this course. She will teach as if you already know the material. She also isn't a good communicator
I have never seen a teacher with such disrespect towards students. From the clicker questions that take up the whole class time to the way she treats students, I wouldn't recommend her class to anyone. I gave her a 1 because I couldn't give her a 0. My biggest regret was not reading the reviews before taking her class. Do not make the same mistake.
Do NOT get behind and always study. She is very difficult and questions can be worded to confuse you. Attend every lecture and the SI sessions to get as many points as possible. Start studying at LEAST a week before the exam. With the grading scale buffer she uses, it is easy to pass/hard to make an A if you have even one mistake or bad test grade.
Challenging class, but using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the material. Professor can be tough, but office hours made a big difference. Worth the effort to get through it.
Gwendolyn Carroll is a very mean spirited woman. She truly speaks down to every student she encounters. I have not spoken to a single person she has been kind to. DO NOT TAKE HER do whatever you can to avoid her. I hope she becomes a better person in the future, and learns to pray a little. I wish her well, but wish to never see her ever again.
I haven't directly had Dr. Carroll's class, but rather her lab run by a TA -- who is also bad. The course design is complicated and does way too much. Not to mention, the grading criteria is insanely harsh. For most Biology students this should be your second ever lab and I think it's ridiculous how much suffering it puts you through.
One of the worst classes I have taken. Test questions do not correlate to lecture notes; if you need reassurance on a topic, she will embarrass you in front of the class. Focuses more on iClicker questions and expects you to know the material before being taught. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!

Took bio 2 lab. def seems intimidating but do your work you will be fine. She has dry sense of humor that some people misinterpret, don't take it to heart. Quizzes and final were tough but fair/no surprises. She is clear/provides a lot to study with. OFFICE HOURS!! SO HELPFUL. I learned a lot. She is very knowledgeable, really enjoyed her class.

Dr. Carroll's class was an extremely hard class if i'm being honest and you will have to learn a lot of material over the semester; however, I attended office hours and she is not as rude as it may seem rather just very blunt. Her class is not impossible to pass, you just have to be willing to put in a lot of work to do so. Study a week out!
The people who dislike Dr. Carroll simply do not like that she is straightforward and has standards for her students. She provides so many resources for studying such as SI, study guides, etc. Tests were extremely reflective of the lecture content. I went in expecting this to be a hard class and I also expected this course to be difficult. It was actually the opposite and I enjoyed taking this course. She uploads the PowerPoints and even gives out extra credit in class at times. She definitely wants her student to succeed and I would definitely recommend taking her.
