No structure to process, class "teaching" involved putting pictures from book on overhead, no lecture.
Difficult class. Extremely intellegent professor, makes you think about the material that you are studing. Enjoyed it.

As a former student and current Anesthesiology resident at Duke, I think some students need to realize why they are in school. Dr. Gill-King is not easy because he wants you to think critically. Critical thinking is a life long skill more important than any single fact he may teach. Maybe some people need to reevaluate why they are in school.
Avoid this teacher if you can. He knows his stuff but cant teach. If you can teach you self some as hard as A & P then you'll do ok but his drop rate is very high.

I really enjoyed Dr. Gill-King's class. He skips around a lot and trails off on jokes, but atleast he has a good sense of humor. It's only a hard class if you don't study. You can't expect to just go to lecture and ace the tests because he doesn't hold your hand and guide you. You have to read the book. I would recommend him.
Gill-King, although a highly intellectual individual, is as chaotic as a tornado across the Texas plains. I learned absolutely nothing from this man. If you want the easy A- go right on ahead, but it will get you nowhere in the long run.
He is VERY intellectual, but doesnt teach the right way. He doesnt care who you are and wouldnt know your name if you wanted him too, not personal at all. I didnt learn anything from him, instead taught myself. The Final is HARD, at least Mr. Seifert gave a review(went through all 150 questions) but Gill didnt do****...not an easy A...........avoid.....!
If you're the "is this going to be on the test?" type of student, you may not enjoy his class. If you actually want to learn from a highly intelligent and well respected prof, take his class. He is very fair and really knows his stuff.
Very intelligent man, but a terrible teacher. He gets side tracked with his stories that are totally irrelevant to the lecture. Rarely used our patho book, which I thought was great. Overall a bad experience, very hard to learn anything. Great man, great mind, terrible teacher. Would advise you to avoid him as an instructor.
He is a very intelligent man, he just never learned how to relay information to students. His tests may or may not cover what he teaches and the book is never used in class, it is more of a reference for future use. He is fun to listen to and tells great stories but should really stick to being a M.E. Take another teacher if there are any available
I would not recommended this teacher to any students because I did not learn any thing from his class. I worked hard to get just a C but it did not work form me because his tests may or may not cover what is in the book. In my entire college, my grades were just A and B but in his class I have struggled and even I had nightmares during the day.
He's definitely interesting. You will not be bored unless you chose to zone him out. But if you listen, time will go by fastt!! He's not easy..but it's not impossible at all. If you read the txt, study it well and pay attention, you should make a good grade. You definitely need to invest time for this time. But if you do, you'll get the grade.

Interesting stories at times. Otherwise, I did not get anything out of his lectures. Take Kasparian and Canaris for Lab
Be prepared to read the textbook, and its not small. He is a genius and tells lots of informative stories, so you are getting your $'s worth. The tests are HARD even if you studied for 10 hours. He is a nice guy, you just have to rely on the book. Go to open labs, seriously!
Gill-King is on fire with his smartness. Hard tests, read the book for tests, lectures are just for listening. He's a good guy!
Very hard and lec are not helpful at all, has nothign to do with the subject being taught, you have to learn eveyrthing on your own from the book, might as well take an online course.
You might as well be taking an online course. Every test is made through a test bank he gets from the book maker. If you are good at memorizing this might be the class for you. I am going to another school next semester so I do not have to take him for 1407, and I actually would like to learn something and not just memorize a book.

Well, this class has made me change my major to education. I studied my *** off. I studied about 3 to 4 hours a DAY! And I still managed to fail the tests. I am a straight 'A' student. I cannot say I regret taking this class as it has opened my eyes as to how I am not intrested in the medical field. Good luck, try another teacher though
You have to be smart to relate to this guy. He is one of the world's leading forensic experts and it is a rare opportunity to come across someone like this in your education. Soak in every word, this man will teach you how to think. Don't take this class if you're lazy, you will fail...A's are possible but you will work hard to earn them.
An amazing teacher. He is like an encyclopedia with feet! He loves to share information and tell really great stories. He is tough 'grumpy ol' man' but you will learn mountains from him. GK teaches to the above average student. He puts class back in the classroom.
very hard instructor. what he teaches in class is not on the test. it's basically a self-taught class. HOWEVER, he does give you a ton of bonus points at the end of class i should have been a borerline c student with my test grades and some how i got a b at the end of class. so for the extra points it's def. worth it.
Tough class. Show up, study, pay attention, study, take notes, study. He likes to tell personal stories that relate to the subject he's talking about. He makes it somewhat interesting. Read each chapter more than once. Hard class but not really his fault. Very knowledgable. I would recommend him.
Brilliant medical examiner yes, aweful planning skills. The lectures were amusing, however there was poor planning on his part during my semester in '06. The first test was the only test we took on schedule. Finals study week we had to also take 2 major tests because we were that behind. I almost had an A, night classes are rough enough.
Dr.Gill-King is IMHO a very cool person. He tells great funny stories and he's obviously incredibly intelligent. He gave the class tons of diet tips and let us see some of his forensic work but unfortunately he doesn't really teach what we needed to know for the test. He'd start out doing so but then he'd get carried away on a rabbit trail.
Yes he is Very inteligent, BUT he doesn't teach what is on the tests that by the way are VERY HARD! If you really need Biology Majors you don't have another option that read the book and teach yourself. Very hard class. I had drop it.
I LOVED this class! Dr. Gill-King is perfect! The book is to learn, the professor relates the book material to the practice of medicine - EXTREMELY HELPFUL! you must study, you must read, He has a TA, Heather & she is fabulous. I found the tests easier than lecture! Lab was harder! I would take this class twice just to have Gill-King!
Great Professor! I took AP 1&2 with him and made an A in both. He is very intelligent and he makes class fun. Tests are a little hard, but doable. You cant afford to be lazy. Ask questions. His explanations and stories help you remember. Lab was boring and Chou is awful! But definitely recommend Gill-King if you love science!
He really makes it interesting. If it weren't for him, it'd be so boring. But he makes you to love the subject by telling you so many stories from his experience. His test are tough, but very much doable. And I never find anything on the test that he didn't cover. You have to study the textbook and myaandp. com that comes with it.
I absolutely recommend him. Anatomy, otherwise, is really difficult and makes you think about quitting, but he tries to make it interesting for you. It was a privilege to be in his class. It was great to get to know such a talented guy!!!
Really smart professor and interesting lectures, but those lectures don't seem to help you that much on the test. Tests are department tests and the only way to survive is to memorize everything from your book and pray.
wow this is a difficult class but is absolutly my favorite. lectures dont cover much on the test so read until your brain bleeds, that was how I got my "A." but in all seriousness I thought he was an excelent teacher
Very difficult class, but very intelligent professor. Great guy! His lectures are entertaining, but not at all helpful for the exams. Reading every chapter multiple times is mandatory in order to pass. Be prepared to study your brains out if you take this course and want to do well.
So hes a genius! but hes really REALLY boring and monotone! his lectures r a joke & he doesnt post anything online. and to make it better theres no review for anything u walk into every test blind! to do well u gotta read read everyday or u will fail. period end of story. u basically teach yourself AVOID THIS TEACHER for A&P

Is this class difficult? Of course it is. Will you need tutoring outside of class? Most likely. If you want the grade, you'll have to earn it. This professor is fair. The tests are tough, but he curves at the end of the semester. Read ahead of his lectures and afterwards. Review, review, review. The final is comprehensive.
This is absolutely the worst instructor I have ever encountered in my life. He does not relate to his students at all. He knows his stuff, but can't teach it. Some people just were not cut out to be teachers. Just because someone is good at what they do, does not qualify them to teach it.
He know the subject very well but does not know how to teach the subject and also does not follow the class schedule he announced a test was due in a week then said we had one day to take it and no extra points were given he is very unorganized I would not recommend him to anyone
He knows what he is talking about very well, but he thinks that we know it as well as he does. Its hard to keep up in that class because he gets through one chapter in two lectures. He doesnt translate knowledge to students. He's not very sympathetic. Hard class!
I am almost done with the class, and I have no Idea where I am at. He is nice and lectures are interesting. But his test are HARD, you have to know a&p very well,he gives you no idea about what to study, at times lectures do not relate to test. He does give 40 points extra and does give you a week to take the exam. But I would not take Him again!!!
This class has been a nightmare. I was very interested in Biology before taking his class; now I am counting down the days until it ends. Gill-King is a very intelligent man and has an impressive resume. Unfortunately, he cannot teach. I highly recommend you choose another professor or brace yourself for a rough semester.
WORST TEACHER OF MYY LIFEEE.you have to teach yourself EVERYTHINGG!..you can go to class but its useless...he gives us a syllabus that he changed mid semester bc he fell behind so ended up cramming 4 weeks of info in 1..which also meant that there were 2 tests due the week of the final exam-150 questions in 1.5 hours. good luck.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had. Our class got incredibly behind in the end, getting on two completely different pages from our lab and lecture. Ending with our class taking some three to four tests in the span of a week and half. Now I have to take this class again but I'll die before I re-take it at Brookhaven.
This professor is the hardest I have ever encountered in my life. Great at his Job knows his stuff but cant teach. Test are very hard, he says just know EVERYTHING. No study guide or heads up of what could be on the test. Not a easy class and not a easy professor. You will have to earn every point you get. Take him at your own risk!!!!I will not be

Tests do not match up with the lectures nor the textbook. Was told by councilors you're better off taking your sciences at Northlake or Richland as their science departments are way better. I refuse to give up on biology just because this man can't seem to care enough.

If you take this class, most likely you will fail, each semester out of 200 students, 160 drop, and the 40 students left about 25 fail and 10 get C's and 3 get B's and 2 get A's. He is a good teacher but gets off topic too much and we have to take around 5 tests including the 150 question final in the last 3 weeks. Happens every semester.
Gill-King is awesome. The general consensus is that this man is an Hot Einstein with a book full of expressions that I find quite enjoyable. He answers any and all questions. Don't be afraid to ask. With that said don't turn around and say he's a bad teacher and you didn't learn anything. Ask if you aren't sure!
I'm not smart, but I got an A! Keep in mind that Professor Gill-King is an old school Professor. His lectures are meant to enhance your knowledge of the material, not to teach it! -THE STUDENT- should come to class, having already studied the chapter. King says on the first day of class that if you rely only on his lectures, you will fail!
He is the worst teacher I've ever taken.. He doesn't care for his students. His lectures are really boring.. No use of attending his classes at all... You've to study everything by yourself... Worse...worse teacher ever! Do not take him if you can! He doesn't show up on time. Tests do not match up with lectures at all and also very difficult.
He was the most difficult Prof I had ever had. I ended up having to withdraw because I had NO idea what he was talking about! He would go on rants off topic, write notes too fast. And if you missed them, too bad. The student would have to know Chemistry by heart in order to pass. Even the advisor informed me after I withdrew, he wasn't "the best".

Notes to succeed in Gill/Kings Class: Have PLENTY of time to study. Read the chapter BEFORE attending the lecture on that chapter. Attend ALL classes. Visit the A&P open lab OFTEN. When the exams get relased take them ASAP, he only puts about 10 copies in the testing center. After the exams, go to open lab and check over your mistakes.
I went to a college preparatory high school and encounter many difficulties. My teachers challenged us every day, but showed interest for the students, G-King does NOT! It doesn't matter if you don't go to class. The best recommendation I can give is to buy the online masterinbiology and study from the notecards!G-Luck!
He was late everyday, extremely unapproachable and I had to end up dropping the class because It was impossible.
teachers should be assisting and teaching, isn't that what they are paid for ? Anyone can give you a text book and the choice is yours. This man has allowed his students to FAIL ! Unless you can comprehend quickly and be ready for tests every day or two DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He may be knowledgable person but his teaching skills are poor.
Professor Gill-King was an awesome teacher! He does go into rants but they are all relate able to the subject matter. He is an old school professor but if you ask questions he will answer them. if you read the chapter and print out the powerpoints then you will pass the class, he makes A&P fun!
Slackers will not do well in this class!you must be willing to sacrifice hours to study just to even pass. At the beginning of the semester we had about 80 students enrolled. Only 13 were passing during finals week. I ended up with an A in the class because I ate, breathed, and dreamed about biology. Your textbook will be your best friend.
He is funny, but his test are horrible. Has power points, but basically have to read the whole book. NO extra credit, but it seems that he curves at the end of the semester. GOOD luck if you have him.
Great professor! This is not an easy class......you must be prepared to read the book, attend lecture and STUDY! But he is very knowledgeable and if you approach him with informed questions....he is very helpful! I have never been good at science but I left this class with a really good understanding of the material thanks to this professor.
Very intelligent teacher. I enjoy the lectures! But the test may or may not stem from any lecture. Best to study the book, know the material and not memorize it. It's helping me to think and not just memorize the information!
Extremely difficult class. Very interesting lectures though, and I learned a lot because I had to study so much. I studied 10+ hours for tests that were extremely difficult. You have to be willing to put in time and energy into his class. Don't rely on notes or power points - read the book.

Lectures very interesting but not much from the lectures is on the test. If someone needs an A, I would not recommend this class. You need put a lot of time to study for this class. VERY HARD TESTS
This guy is the worst! He is rude and arrogant. Do not take his class. He makes everything too difficult and if you try to ask for help you are made a fool of. Not a good teacher. I would recommend him for graduate school, but NOT undergraduate!
Was my instructor in 1984/85 when I was an engineering major. he had a major influence on me and I became a biologist instead. I don't remember him as being an easy A like some would like, but then who learns anything when your classes arent challenging. If he is still teaching, take his class!
This professor cares less about his students. The lessons are useless. You have to read the book to remotely do well. Even then, the tests are filled with questions that are so obscure you wonder where they came from. The final is a pass/fail the course final. You could have an A and fail if you don't pass the final. No direction or guidance.
He's very sarcastic at times, makes you feel like a fool. Has a lot of his college stories, which I don't care about because I wanted to learn. He Doesn't care. Tests are hard and have little to do with lectures, you're basically on your own. READ THE BOOK. Has subtle jokes that make me laugh sometimes, but other than that DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
Professor Gill-King is a very intellectual man. He did say that it is pointless to go to lecture because the book is all you need. This is true. BE READY to READ each chapter MUTIPLE times. The book is your LIFE. Tests are hard but you can pass. I currently have an A. It's doable. Your in college for a reason. Not everything will be handed to you.
I don't care what anyone says Dr. Gill-King is an good instructor. Yes this class was difficult, but if you read, study and attend class you will pass. I am in school for the nursing program, I will have people's lives in my hands, I don't want anything given to me, I want to work for it and know what I'm doing. HE WANTS YOU TO KNOW.. I made an A.
Dr. King is an awesome professor. He comes off as a hard ass, but he is an intelligent straight forward guy. As long as you go to class, participateinteract in class, and take advantage of all sources such as the tutor lab, you will get an A!!! I'm so disappointed he is not teaching AP II. I really like him!!
He is a funny guy, but he isn't really a good professor for someone who is working an/or taking more than 2 classes. Lectures are good except for the fact that he is too fast with the power points. He also tells a lot of stories that are not relevant to the lecture.
He is very intelligent, but not very organized. He is often late for lecture. We missed a week from holiday, and then another week due to power outage at the school, and he threw information at us and we were held accountable for reviewing all of the chapters on our own and given two test within one week. Should have taken online!
You can be passing the class with an A all you want but if you fail the final you automatically fail the class, which is freakin stupid! He doesn't care not one bit, he is the worst professor I ever had!
I took this professor for Biology 1406. I looked up which professor to take for my A&P class and when his name popped up, it gave me a flash of PTSD. His lectures had absolutely nothing to do with the materials on the tests. I could have skipped the whole semester, read the textbook by myself and could have gotten the same grade as I received.
Toughest class I have ever taken. This professor is very interesting during lecture, but the tests almost have nothing to do with lecture. You will have to read your book and know it. The tests are super hard and almost seem to be designed for graduate students, not students that are barely beginning the degree.
This professor is by far the worst one at Brookhaven. He does not teach he talk about things that has nothing to do with the class.. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
When we were in class not once did we open our book. Just slideshows with notes and he went through the slides so fast NONE of us could actually write down the notes. Ended up dropping his class.
If you're a responsible, self-motivated student, you'll do just fine. Our lecture grade was based entirely on exam scores. In my course, we had 6 exams and he dropped our 2 lowest. Very generous in my opinion. You have to read your text and learn independently. Also, I believe the test questions come from a bank, so take practice tests online.
