Likes to give trick questions on tests and is not very helpful
No Comments
intense notes on lecture, too many confusing names of people, place, and event, recommand recording his lecture and re-type the note, he loves to test on detail from the book reading, won't answer your question directly, always ask you to check your note
he is a cool teacher! You learn so much in a short period with him. Everything and everybook is is interesting. I loved his class!
a lot of information given. Attendance is essential. Re-write notes. Overall great class but you need to pay attention.
He is just the cooest. alot of work but that is what school is about. he is a good guy.
Very good teacher! Lecturing is his style. Take good notes! No homework. Shows slides and videos. I Also took Humanities 125H with him. You don't really need a book for this class. We read 2 novels and wrote a group paper. I heard he doesn't read them.
Great Teacher!! ALL of his test consist of about 10 short essay but are easy if u go over all your notes. Slides are not very helpful YOU need to get all of the notes while he is talking!!! Very little homework in his class.
This class is so informitive. If you like the discovery channel you'll love his class. He's a great, down to earth guy. Just remember to take good notes on everything, and it's an easy class.
Don't be absent and take a lot of notes. Don't fail any of the test because he doesn't drop any of them. I got a B in the class after one bad score in a test and the rest of the test were A's including with my H.W. His kinda funny too. He doesnt tell you but test#3 is with a partner.
I love how he teach, you have to pay a lot of attention to the slides a lot of notes and study. Not a lot of homework test are base on the notes.
Gonzalez is an awesome teacher. He keeps the class interested in what he is teaching. Hes real cool guy. He expects attendance, test wise he gives you a study guide (use it!).
Cool, down to earth guy. Easy to approach. Don't be absent and take good notes. A lot of Spanish used.
One of the best teachers I have had the pleasure of learning from! Take LOTS of notes, read the books, and STUDY! The only class in my entire life that I never missed a day. Go to class for this one, it's important. Got an A.
Good teacher. He keeps the subject interesting.

Dat guy is funny, never boring in there
Go to work hard or just drop the class
His teaching style is laid back but you must be the one to EARN your grade. A LOT of note taking but does review plenty so pay attention! Brings in slides of his actual trips to Mexico, which I think involves himself personally. Highly recommended.

He is such a great teacher. I've enjoyed being in both his classes. I truly miss his classes. They were so much fun and I learned a lot from him. I highly recommend you take any or all of his classes.
im currently in his class. i think the class is so cool. and he is very funny and always finds a way to relate the students with what we are talking about.
HIS CLASS IS COOL BUT WE HAVE TO WRITE TO MANY NOTES.
Best teacher I've had in a very long time. Actually cares about how you're doing and will help when he can. I miss his classes so much. He made me want to show up.
very interesting, fun class! tests and quizes are super easy! all are based on the notes given in class. study the notes and you'll do fine.
HE IS SO HOT HE is the best teacher great little hard but makes his class so intresting you never want to miss his class. You learn a lot about the mexican culture. But is you don't like to study don't take him because he gives a lot of notes and there is a lot to memorize but all his test are base on the notes we take in class.TAKE HIM AND YOU WIL
How did this guy get a teaching job? He can't spell. Lots of typos on tests. Inflexible rules.
After reading all the positive reviews, I decided to take his class for the summer session. Boy, that was the biggest mistake I had ever made. He is person who likes to intimitate students, inflexible, don't admit him being wrong, always cruses in class, information controdict in the lecture notes given, and tests are hard. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Secret to getting "A" - Take online class, download all notes and answer pre-test questions. Keep notes open while taking test (hint CTRL+F). He is inflexable about any makeup work, but if your on top and prepare for test, his misspelling will not affect you.
online class will make you learning things. Time is not enough for you to use google or wiki to find answer. You have to read his lecture note and textbook. you can know he knows his stuff through his note.
very cool class, you walk out every day with much more knowledge than when you walked in, great teacher
LEARNED A LOT, FAST PACED, LOTS TO COVER
I took the online course and Gonzalez says it's easier than his on campus course. I learned a lot because he is interesting, knows a lot, and gives decent study guides. Do your reading, take lots of notes and you'll do fine on quizzes. No make up quizzes at all no excuses.
easy if you take good notes, test comes from notes and homework is easy and theres not a lot of it!
Hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had. Who ever says he's mean or strict is prob just lazy or an idiot. You will learn a lot and he makes it fun. The key is to take good notes!!
Vocabulary in general is hard core. You must have a slight intrest in mexican culture(that is what I took) his test are decent but there is too many gods, cities that average(letter count) 8-12 letters. If you can deal with that knock yourself out.
I have all three books required. Selling Pocho for $5.00, The Good Conscience for $5.00, and The Burning Plain for $7.00. email me at [email protected] put in the subject: Buy textbooks
TOOK ONLINE CLASS. IF YOU COMPLETE STUDY GUIDE FOR EACH TEST YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS. ALL TEST QUESTIONS COME FROM STUDY GUIDE AND WILL INCLUDE QUESTIONS FROM PREVIOUS STUDY GUIDES. TEST ARE VERY EASY. MADE IT VERY FUN TO LEARN. NO REASON WHY YOU SHOULDN'T GET AN A!!!!!!!!
100% Online Class. He was great! Format for lectures were funny and easy to understand. Stick to the review questions and remember to read what he gives. Take all exams...a must...very funny teacher :)
I took his online course during the summer. My friend and I worked together on the course, and his exams were kind of weird. His exams/quizzes were cumulative and all of it was from lecture notes and textbook. However, some questions don't match and can't be found. Not recommended until blackboard gets fixed with errors since recently implemented.
This was a really good class! Mr.G explains everything really well and makes up really good examples. I would def recommend this class for anyone wanting to take humanities. I learned a lot
Besides his sexyness, gonzalez is funny. He makes his class fun and worth attending. Take a lot of notes, study from his study guide, do his homework(its not a lot), be specific on tests, don't text, and pay attention. That's my advice ^_^
I took this class seeking to learn about Mexican culture. It was more of a history class, abbreviated, subjective and not much 'culture' to be found. This was the online class. Tests are fairly easy if you read the material, although there were several instances of questions that were not covered in his discussions.
I dont know i thought it would be an interesting class but this class seems a bit useless. I guess for the people who take these easy classes i thought it was a total rip and should be eliminated i dropped after two weeks , guy went to fullerton and for sure did not graduate with a good gpa easy but not really worth my money
Horrible teacher. Annoying and SOO not hot. I don't know how he is even allowed to teach. He isn't helpful when it comes to quizzes or test. You have to take notes on everything, even stuff that seems pointless to write down. Don't waste your money on this class.
he tells you how it is - i think the complainers are the ones getting fs in his class i took him a while ago, learded a lot
I took his online course. To get a good grade, make sure to answer all of the course work questions he gives you and read his lecture notes before taking the tests. Sometimes he put up some of the tests late, but he does give you a few more days to take it. Some of the questions are tricky in the way it is worded, but some others are easy.
Great class, learned stuff all the time, tak lts of notes,
I took this class online. I loved it! He doesn't use a textbook, but instead novels to read which keeps it interesting. He gives you notes to read and then you take tests. I learned a lot.
His constant grammer and spelling errors made me wonder about his competance and/or dedication. I became convinced when the study guides and lectures became practically non-existant. His tests focused on a lot of minutia, not the more important facts. I would not recommend...(I took the online course and got a high A)
great class, there are some spelling mistakes along the way, but not enough to complain about, unless you are a nerd that uses words like minutia and says water instead of waDer
This is the best online class I have taken. I guess the saying is true - one man's treasure is another man's garbage because I thought he covered the big picture of the subjects being covered. He didn't really care about definitions and dates like so many teachers. He also made the class relative to today's issues.
Gonzalez has lots of rules, mostly to keep the slackers from slacking, but hes a great teacher who makes the material relative to todays issues...
the guy is funny, and educational, very few students drop the class, its a class everyone should take
I loved his class. Made it fun not so textbook orientated. Theres alot of notes but its easy to keep up with if u show up every day and study when ever he decides to give a test your set!
Honestly, he's one of the best teachers i've had. He gives you the grade you deserve. His weekly quizzes "tests" are easy, only if you do the study guides he hands out. The study guide are almost identical to the tests. Just study, don't miss class because you'll miss a lot, and take good notes and you won't have to worry.
he makes you want to not miss a day of class, he's funny & has a fun style of teaching.the class is very insightful to other cultures.great instructor.great class. & you actually LEARN. you EARN the grade you end up with.
he makes you want to not miss a day of class, he's funny & has a fun style of teaching.the class is very insightful to other cultures.great instructor.great class. & you actually LEARN. you EARN the grade you end up with.
Great teacher! He has amazing written lectures for his online class! Totally recommend him! But FYI u do have to study... Now years worth but read the lecture and fully read the text and you'll be golden! Have fun and good luck!
This was my first online class X2010, based on this I belive I will continue taking online classes; His online lectures are so clear, if you read them theres no reason why you should get anything less than 90% on them. I received an A, and I would only log on twice a week, when he would post the new lesson, and then 5 days later to take the exams.
Absolute joke of a class. Constantly late, will go off on tangents completely unrelated to the class. Our pricey text book is used for nothing more than looking up pictures of the topic at hand; the internet would be a FREE alternative. Half of lectures are in Spanish
Oh man! This professor is the best ive ever had!! so helpful he makes the class so easy and you actually learn a lot while having fun. he is Hilarious to the max, and always connects funny stories to what he is about to teach you. Best professor i ve had so far and i extremely recommend him! I had him last spring 2010
I'm in this class, he's not late, fool, he teaches a class in the same room before our class! I like the class, lots of information in his lectures, relates it to today's issues, and time flies in his class...enough said
I AGREE WITH THE OTHER POSTS. hE IS A GOOD TEACHER AND HE IS GREAT AT DELIVERING THE LECTURE. fUNNY STORIES, SHOULD DO SOME STANDUP COMEDY
Prof Gonzalez is the best!Test are accumulative, but overall easy class.I extremely enjoyed the course as he made it interesting relating it to correlating topics.(Although he doesn't like to admit it)he truly cares about your success in the class, & future concerning school. His advice and his dedication to his students made the class rewarding.
maybe this is the easiest class in rio hondo. I didn't buy the book which is only needed for quiz-- he gave us a study guide which is almost identical to the actual quiz so all you need to do is go to the library, check out the book and answer the study guide. There are only 3 exams that based on lectures. if you do what a student should do, easy A
HE IS FUNNY AND NOT HARD AT ALL HE MAKES THE CLASS FUN AND COOL I LEARNED NEW CONCEPTS ABOUT MY MEXICAN CULTURE... RECOMMEND HIM HECTOR GONZALES
He is very funny. In the beginning he gives out 2 quizzes that are a all or nothing points. Exam 1,2 and 3 are a 150 questions. Study alot and its a pleasure attending class! he does always predict how many people will fail the exams!
You really have to study hard in this class! There's 3 Exams and the Final is covered on the entire class. The quizzes are 50 Q's and a "all or nothing" point system. The exam's are 150 questions each. As of right now 13 people are failing. His sense of humor is good. Only annoying part is he can seem ignorant at times with his comments of who'sfai
Gonzalez is a fun & interesting pofessor. He forgets & loses things which can be annoying. Plus he is a bad speller. Other than that he is great. He is funny which keeps things interested. He's a bit harsh when he talks about people failing but I can imagine it must be frustrating when dealing with slackers. I highly recommend him, just STUDY.
Good class take it
I took his class last semester and I would recomend the class. This class covers stuff that I've covered in other classes, art, literature, religion.
This instructor is knowledgeable about the subject, but his personality makes his class terrible at times. He is ethnocentric and lacks commitment to students. He knows his tenure makes him untouchable so he tries to get away with a lot of stuff in class. If you're looking for an easy class were you just listen to lectures this is just for you.JOKE
He's a really funny teacher & easy on the eyes ;)
FUNNY, FUNNY guy! Very simple and easy class. He gives you an easy study guide, and as long as you study it you will pass. Don't miss class because you will miss out on valuable info you will need for the exam. He makes the class interesing and funny, so you won't want to miss class anyway! I didn't care for humanities prior to taking this class.
This was the easiest class that i have ever had because you get many points for attendance and staying to watch the movies which are actually interesting. however you do need the books and you do need the read the assigned pages because the test consist of many easy trick questions. hes pretty chill and had a good sense of humor.
took his class last fall. it is extremely easy. no discussion or assignments, only tests. read the chpater and take the test! midterm and final are just the same. the tests are pretty easy so long as your read the literature. you just go online once a week...to take test and get next weeks lecture. great class if your taking many at a time.
Great teacher you have organize your notes or else your lost, he helps you and tells you different ways you should study for exam, as long as you read the chapters your good
Awesome Teacher, he is fun and tells lots of jokes. You will do fine in class as long as you take notes and study what ever is in the study guide. Test are really easy and most of them are multiple choice. He is really dedicated to what he does and hates it when people try to disrupt his class. so dont pull out your phone!
Lots and i mean lots of stuff to learn/his lectures for 110 class are full of inormation/his 130 class is much easier;
ive taken him twice, highly recomend, makes lectures relavent to today- compared napolian dynamite to egyptian pharaoh akenaten, classic
Good class. He lectures well. He relates to students, and has expectations, which is good because some teachers don't care about their students.
he is a very interesting teacher he's always cracking jokes or trying to relate to real life which is really interesting. Never bought the book, just went to library to rent it when needed for the quizes besides that both the midterm and the final are all lecture based. As long as you study whats on the study guide u should be fine! Def recommend!
I was disappointed by how easy this class was. You take quizzes for three books you'll read, but the quizzes only ask simple questions like the name of the main character so you could realistically sparknote everything. As for the midterm and final, you just need to memorize lecture notes. That's it. No critical thinking involved.
He requires you to read like 3-4 books during the semester. Theyre small and manageable. but if you have a lot of other classes, a job, and all that stuff then its a lot to taken on. i think he assigns too much reading because a lot of us are taking a load and work and stuff. but hes funny,
He is a great professor! he is really funny and down to earth. He doesn't really give any hw so when he does make sure to do it, DON'T FALL BEHIND he does not give any extra credit! He tells you exactly what's going to be on the test so just study the study guide and you will be fine. However you do write alot
It was good to learn about difrent parts of my culture/art literature, history etc. His book Flying Blue tacos was hilarious. I'm definetly a Taco, if you read the book you'll know what I mean.
lots of reading to do, but not bad reading. He selects good books. I'm a taco. His book was the funiest and best to read because the stories in teh book were my stories, not in a steryotype way, its just the way it truly is
He does not take his job seriously at all, very irresponsible. Yes it is a very easy A, but I found myself very disappointed and kind of annoyed with how easy it was and how unprofessional he is.
I looked through other surveys, and you're the first one to say this. I wonder what class it was because he doesn't teach the class you listed. Sounds like it a 'you' issue with this review. I didn't see this at all in his class. You probably got a D or lower, and are venting??
Not sure what the person above is talking about. He or she must of not been allowed to turn in a late homework assignment. Gonzalez is very professional. In my class there were only 5 As going into the final, I know this because he hands out a spreadsheet with grades on it. Anyway, sounds like a bitter revies, I'd recomend the class.
There are tests once a week that come directly from the study guide. The class was easy but he is extremely unorganized, which can be frustrating. Pictures don't show up in study lessons, video links don't work, misspellings on tests are frequent happenings. If you are looking for an easy A, this is your class.
The class was great. He makes you think about things you take for granted. He's always joking around but takes education seriously. Rio needs more teaches like him. He challenges the class and gives great advice about like. pound the rock is a great quote.
Chill teacher. gets to his point very interesting class, he has a passion of what he teaches so everything comes out his way making it interesting. Makes you read a lot of books and take tests on the books separate from the tests on the material he is teaching. would highly recommend taking him :)
I very much enjoyed his Mexican-American culture class. Mr. Gonzalez is funny and straight forward, some may call it "negative", but he's simply being realistic and factual - something I definitely needed! If you show up to class, take notes (& study them come test time) and do homework you'll do fine!
Great teacher and easy class. As long as you SHOW UP and do the work you'll pass no problem. (HINT: Completing the study guides are VERY helpful even though you don't get graded on completing them.)
I enjoyed his class very much. His book is very funny and reads great. It's better thank the other books assigned. Hes a chill profe, but that doesn't mean he gives you slack wich is a good thing for must of us.
I had him about a year ago and suggest to my friends to take his class. nice guy, keeps the class moving forward and asks the class a lot of questions and makes the class conect to today's world
really enjoyed the class
So I would like to start off by saying that this course is actually fairly simple. I took the online course over Spring 2015. Prof. Gonzalez is very black and white and contradicts himself quiet a lot. He is extremely hard core when it comes to percentage and has organized his point system in a way to almost set you up for failure.
I took Professor Gonzalez online course for the summer, we are in finals week already and his grading with points wise is hard, you must have 1,215 points to get an A. One thing that was annoying , he never emailed me back, i had to email him 3 times to email me back because he never graded me homework! hes horrible online! i ended up with a B!
Took Hum110 online, he was very unorganized. The lecture was not clear, not were the study questions. The weekly test were even worst, some questions were straight to the point, others had no correct response, and then there were blank questions with just an answer. Easy class, but very unorganized and did not respond to emails.
I THINK he didn't get back you guys because you probably didn't use Blackboard to email him, and he said don't email him at his Rio Hondo email because he doesn't check that site much during summer. IF YOU wouldve read his intro, you wouldve know this. I'm just saying. I thought it was a good class. Black and white, agree, know what you have to do
Loved the class,
He makes the class fun, tells lots of jokes along the way, would recommend him
He is Awesome and cool ! Come on you have to go to class it's obvious! Take him !!
Pound the rock! Don't count the cost! If you lag it and don't study and do the homework its pretty obvious you will not pass. Attend class, do the work, study and study more.
If you're Mexican-American and can't name Mexican-American writers, artist and other historical figures, this class will help. I'm Mexican and everyday I learned somethng about my culture. Gonzalez kept he class moving too,
Comes off as a very tough teacher but was fair. Unfortunately just didn't seem to be there. Then when class online) was over, all his information was gone in a second, it felt like a drive by. I emailed him within minutes of taking the final, he never responded and all his and class information was taken done immediately.
good online class, would rather be on campus but for an online class this was good
Love the book he wrote make sure you do the readings otherwise you'll get an bad grade, he gives you the grade you earn he makes that clear, his online class is crystal clear, no bells and whistles
im glad i took the class. i learned a lot about my culture. the class moved along really fast covering topoics like music, literature, social events even stand-up comics. highly recomend.
Great professor, lectures weren't boring. He keeps you laughing throughout the class so it goes by fast! Study, study & you'll get your A!
Took the online course for HUM 110. His grading criteria is crystal clear. There is no extra credit and none is really needed. There are no papers or crazy assignments. He assigns reading, study guides for each section, and a brief word document describing that chapter. Tests are online and open book/internet. Can't get much easier than this course
Attendance is key! He does not post notes online and that is what makes up most of the tests other than he book quizzes which are VERY easy if you read the books. Paying attention is not hard at all because he makes the class fun and his stories are hilarious!
Such a great instructor, that I took two of his classes to fulfill my GE and also because the classes are very interesting. Gonzalez wants you to learn and succeed and does so by providing insightful and useful material and presents an organized lesson plan. I would highly recommend Gonzalez.
Simple class to take. He'll give you a certain chapter to read in the textbook, and then his own "lecture" that you have to read. Take plenty of notes. The quizzes are pretty straightforward. Some questions are specific to things he writes in his lectures, so be sure to read his lectures thoroughly.
I took the 4 week winter course. Very doable. Multiple exams weekly and homework assignments. Test are based on the books he assigns and lectures, so STUDY, and you should pass. No papers to write. No extra credit. Lectures and reading were very interesting. I recommend taking one of his courses. So far, one of my favorite classes and teachers!!
Professor Gonzalez was a pretty good professor. I took the HUM 110 class online and all he does is post his lecture. Even though the reading questions that he posts are not mandatory to complete, you should. You NEED to read the lecture and prepare yourself for the test. His tests aren't hard, just take a lot of notes and you will be fine. :)
Enjoyed learning about mexican history because of Prof Gonzalez. A lot of reading but that is normal especially during an online winter course and we had a quiz every week. The books were nice to read too, 1 had short stories and the other was a good read. Would take his classes again. Take notes on the lectures and you'll pass!
Very rude! Would not take again. Told me it was poor planning on my part when I got kicked out and asked him for a little bit of help. Would randomly assign homework assignments. So if you were absent you missed out on those points. He was very unfair when it came to assignments.
If you are a flake, don't take his class. Some teachers will give you a lot of extra credit to make up, but not him. There isn't any extra credit, he expects you to do the required work, which is fair, I guess. You wil either learn to meet the deadlines and do well or be a flake. learned alot lectures are good
Professor Gonzalez's HUM125 class is engaging and challenging. Attending lectures is crucial as that's where the test material comes from. The readings are interesting, and unstuck ai helped me stay on top of the weekly quizzes. Overall, a rewarding course if you put in the work.
I've never heard of a professor using their own written personal books for textbook requirements and then having us Venmo or Zelle them. That is beyond unprofessional and letting this professor profit without the school involved
I like that he gives several tests. Lectures on one subject for a few weeks then a test. I have bought books off of a few other professors because if they sell it through the book store they sell for a lot more. I think this is why they sell direct to students. Ive also bought study guide packets from professors, no big deal.
Bro is such a nice and relatable dude. Very intimidating in the first class but the lectures are simple enough. Literally just show up to class and you get a 3% grade boost. Do the homework it's super easy. Take his class I mean it. Lecture are funny and gives good advice. Sometimes even lets us off early if we finish. Loved it
We covered music, art, and customs from Mexico. Also Aztec and Maya civilizations. There is a lot to cover in this class. He kept the lectors clear and gives study guides for the tests coming up. His lecturs were good.
