he's not as bad as people make him out to be. sure he is VERY self absorbed...but he does have alot of accomplishments. overall if u pay attention and take good notes his class is a breeze. he can be semi funny and even if his jokes aren't,his combover is

very self absorbed, you spend alot of time in class talking about him and his many accomplishments.he also tells alot of stories. he is a brilliant man and the course is not that hard, but make sure you know the material very well for the tests b/c that are not just a breeze.

brilliant man, let me retake an examine reluctantly, joke around in class but dont talk while he is. take good notes and the book is definately needed for tests. 6 tests in the semester and one is open book. no homework. you will love the come over.

I really don't understand why he has such a bad rating. He really is a great teacher. He is funny and kind and not at all hard, even if you only do hal the work. For anyone looking to take this class, I would definately do it and nevermind what anyone else says. It is NOT hard and you will enjoy it!

He is really inteesting and makes the class interesting too. He has some uh, interesting comments but it breaks up the class so it isn't so monotonous. He is very intelligent and accomplished. This isn't a hard class, even if you don't do the work. I recommend him.

This guy deserves to be full of himself. He is one of the global leaders in the field. When I took the class, he was quoting the text from memory. He knows what he's talking about, so get past his ego an learn something.

This man is amazing! He knows things by heart and tests you on what is in class and in notes. Gives extra credit for lecture trips. He may talk about himself but when you have the experiences he does you would too. By the end of the course you will love the big tree inn, genesseo, and laugh at margerate mead's promiscuity.

He's so freaking full of himself, and is crazy redundant. But he is highly qualified in his field. His class is sometimes boring, but as long as you show up, do the work, and COME TO THE EXTRA CREDIT LECTURES, you'll ace the course. His tests are multiple choice, true/false and matching - crazy easy!

He is a great professor and funny in a very random way. The material is easy to understand, but the tests are a little harder, but there is a lot of extra credit. I would definately recommend this class.

If this guy has wrote as many books as he says, and is comfortable, but not wealthy....can he not do something with that comb-over?? Birx is hilarious. He's a great man. The class is very easy-- all you need to do is pay attention and read the chapters. There are six tests, all MC, TF, and matching. There is no way anyone can get less than a B in this class... unless they are a complete idiot.

Dr. Birx is a great teacher. He's absolutly hilarious and really knows his stuff. As long as you dont mind him talking about himself then you'll love him. The class isn't to hard but you got to read the book.

i took both 121 and 122 at the same time. there is something completely lovable about dr. birx. he's wicked smart, witty, and has a great combover. he's a bit of a tough grader, and tests can be hard. as long as you show up to class and take lots of notes you'll do well.

Very funny and interesting guy. The complainers are the ones who expect ANT to be an easy, science-requirement class that requires no real knowledge, and end up surprised.

Extremely arrogant. Spends a lot of time saying the same things over and over again. If you read the book and take notes in class, you should do well on the tests. Asks very specific questions, though. Overall, an alright teacher.

Incredibly arrogant. It's impossible for him to get through a class without talking about himself and how amazing his life/research has been.Tests are straight forward and the final project is just a power point. The class isn't bad, but I hate listening to him lecture.

The man, the myth, the legend. James H Birx was sent down from the heavens from Zeus himself. Some say his looks will paralyze a girl and make her weak at the knees. Even men will swoon for him. His hair flows like the wind (depending on the setting the fan is on) and his loins have planted many seeds.

I loved this professor. His tests were fair and the end of semester project was fun. However, I would highly advise that no class be missed, because he has a strict attendance policy. Also, PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS, because he calls on people when they least expect it!!! His class is enjoyable and you can be successful in it.

Although he is very boring, Dr. Birx is THE MAN. He's always got stories to tell, usually about his great lifetime achievements, travels, and his lonely trips to the movies. He grades fairly as long as you read and pay attention in class. Only one project, too! He might be really boring, but I'm telling you, you will learn to love him.

As much as ppl joke about him, he really is a good guy. Test's are tricky, but read and you are fine. Easy final project. No homework besides reading which you will want to do. He regularly asks questions so pay attention, and be prepared; first round of questions are all from the last lecture. Go to class everyday!! Would definitely recommend

Dr. Birx is amazing, he talks about himself 247 and how he travels a whole lot; but he is always there for students if they need help. At the end of the semester you have to do a presentation in front of the class, so be prepared. If you need help he will give you amazing references.

One of the greatest professors I ever had and at the college. I feel he is one of the few staff, I would consider a model Canisiusner! I would ask the college to promote this finest employee to the highest level! I would even go to the board/trustees members and ask them to consider giving him a special job title above President Hurley!!!

Students, good teacher, seems to really care!!!!! I have to write that Canisius doesn't have many quality faculty. He's one of the very few!!! I wish he could be higher up in the college, maybe above Hurley!!!!! President Birx has a fabulous ring to it! In my heart, he'll always be the savior of the reputation at Canisius College. Will miss him!!

How should I commence with the wonderfulness of this professor? This site wouldn't allow me to type more than 350 language. I would have penned a novel. Take as many of his classes as you can, absolutely astonishing!

Please take any of his classes, you wouldn't regret it! You'll be ridiculously glad you did. It's that time of year, registration is advisable to all, get into his class, before they fill up! Too bad, I can't, taken as many as I can.

I took a class with Brix this semester after reading all the amazing reviews (and having him be recommended to me by many friends). All I can say is, no one was exaggerating. He is beyond belief, both as a teacher and a person. You would be a fool not to take any class taught by him. I never left class less than totally inspired.

Birx is one of the most remarkable teachers I've found at Canisius. He is betrothed in the material and the students. No matter the student or project, he was always able to find the redeeming qualities of a firearm and the areas where the student could push their work. On a personal level, Birx was one of my most influential instructors.

The only people who could possibly give this fantastic professor a bad rating are the unintelligent ones. Hes extremely clear about what you need to know, as borne witness by the thousands of times you'll hear him say 'so what this means is'. He gives you precisely what you need to know, and clearly loves anthropology.

He is an amazing teacher and really tries to connect with the students in the class. He helps you whenever you need, and is very understanding. His class helped me realize what I want to do with my life.

I took Anthropology and Film, in a past semester, didn't remember the course number, sorry! Anyways, Professor Birx is everything higher education needs: a teacher who cares about his students, incorporates a wide mixture of viewpoints, and thoughtfully prepares the course.

Best professor, I've ever had by far, the best class I've taken in college so far. He's incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and explains everything very distinctly. He tells you just what to expect and never tries to trick you on tests. The lectures are super interesting and he's very funny and charismatic, so you're captivated the entire time.

Great professor. He makes sure his speeches are interesting and straightforward. He encompasses the exact material that will be on the tests during review days, so passing them is pretty easy. In all likelihood the best professor, I have ever taken. His positive energy is really contagious. He reminds of an older edition of Chris Traeger !

Dr. Birx is a prolific author and an exceptional teacher. He pushed me to look beyond and challenged me on my suppositions. He was also able to shed illumination on a whole area of Anthropology that I overlooked. He was also available for questions and gave great advice!
