Funny professor. Class is easy if you do the homework.
Prove you understand it and you'll pass. If you listen to what he says, then try it you'll cruise. 90% full of baloney outside of physics! True Nerd. Part Comedian. Don't let him scare you.
Prof. Tahsiri is really nice and easy going, which makes it very easy to want to take his class for granted. Then you run into trouble b/c it's still physics and it's still hard. Pay attention, don't slack, and you'll do well.
Really funny, cool teacher, but his accent's pretty thick.
i didnt show up to class half of the time and studied his lecture notes and got a B!!! but really, he's really funny!
He's okay professor. Exams kinda tough
His test is multiple choice.... and he is a really cool professor.... his lecture's funny and you learn something from it too.
He should be retired! He is kinda hard to understand sometimes but he's much better than the other PHSC 112 teacher. His tests are multiple choice and he gives you the lecture notes so you don't have to take them down yourself!
Sometimes he's really hard to understand but you can tell he knows his stuff. He says a lot of funny things. You def still have to study!
His class is based on luck. Most people will get a "C". I didn't study, BSd the test, and still got a "B". Good luck!
THE worst teacher I have ever had. Talks so quietly that his words are unaudible When questions are asked, he mocks the student asking, then moves on. No one that I talked to in my class could stand him, either.
He should quit teaching and try and figure out when the next lunar eclipse is. He was awful and very boring and the information on his tests was very unclear in his lecture
If you want an A, buy his packets and study them.
Probably your best bet in CSULB's weak physics department. Pretty easy professor, detailed lectures, has a little comedic value...multiple choice tests. Has an accent but it isn't too tough to get around.
he teaches like a middle school teacher and he thinks he's funny but his jokes are lame. most of time you'll be sleeping during his lecture. dont buy the book cuz he gives out lecture notes every week. it's a really easy class but i think the take home experiment is the worst.
Tahsiri is an excellent Professor, and his class is very easy for a physics course. You have to be stupid not to get an 'A'! He is pretty funny, which always makes class enjoyable, and is a really nice guy.
I'm in this class now. It's horrible. When you ask a question, he makes you look stupid. He gives out info thats wrong, then expects you to get it right. When asked to do a question in class, he doesnt even have the correct answer himself. Ugh. I give him a big fat F-. I DESPISE this class!
BUY THE LECTURE NOTES and STUDY THE PRACTICE MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS and you'll be fine! He was a little weird and his jokes were only funny like 10% of the time. The take home experiments are time consuming and pointless.
Tough course, but very interesting and engaging. Tahsiri presents the material in a logical, mathematical way.
class is really boring, especially during the astronomy portion (he is a physics teacher after all) and he's kind of hard to uderstand sometimes. but he gives a major curve and he's a nice guy.
He makes physics easy to pass
There's A LOT of information so procrastination does NOT work for this class. The example problems in the book show up on his exams, but he tends to choose the more difficult ones. If you keep up with the syllabus, you'll do fine. He's not very approachable because he can be moody. But he cracks jokes in the smaller lecture class to keep us awake.
Tests are multiple choice with 8 to 12 questions. He curves grades although he doesn't say what the cut-offs are. He gives homework questions which are similar to the test questions. Do the homework and you should be able to do fine on the tests.
This professor sucks. I didn't learn crap from this guy. My high school professor teaches physics better than him. I definitely regret taking him.
boring!!!!boring!!!!boring!!!!!
this class is boring however i think it's easy. he's a very nice old man
I had faith in this class before I took it but then I found out he's kind of an **** b/c he's temperamental. He's helpful at first, then he's mean and strict, and he blew up at me a couple of times. Weird guy. I wouldn't take him again.

I walked out with a B in the class. Make sure you do well on the first two tests because the last one is a butt kicker! Find someone who's taken the class before and get their Take Home Experiments (THE) because he will not show you how to do them.
I couldn't stand this professor! He was very unclear and made stupid jokes every lecture. I would take another professor.
It's not the best class, but you can get a B without doing anything. This class is useless. I'll take him if you just wanna take the class to pass, if you want to learn take someone else.
His grading policy is based off the class average; the class average on every test is a 75%. i.e on our first exam, the class average was 38/65, but he made a 38 a 75% and so a B would be 41 and an A would be 46. He is very helpful in his office, but he is not well prepared for lecture. He goes off of the top of his head. But I would recommend
Gives lots of in-class examples of mathematical physics. Makes somewhat screwy tests and sometimes gets confused by his own notes. Fair and fast grader. Overall a good teacher to lear E&M.
EASY CLASS. hw assignments EASY! you can copy from the student manual. exams are easy as long as you study what he goes over in class. EASY EASY EASY! he does have a snippy attitude, but who cares?
He wasn't a good lecturer. It was difficult to understand him sometimes. He does curve the test scores, but with only two tests plus a final, it makes it difficult to get a good grade in the class if you screw up on one of the tests. I learned more from the book and lab section of the course.
He is probably the worst teacher I've ever had and I've been in school for a while now!. I don't recommend you take him for ANY of you courses. I don't understand how he is still employed at CSULB.
You have no idea what's going on. His lectures are beyond vague and have no correlation with what's on the test. Had numerous mistakes on his tests, and was mean at times. Only bonuses were that he was constantly late to class, and he curved tests. Other than that, don't take this guy if you want to learn in class, that's what the book is for.
one word: boring. he is unclear. 5 take home experiments due at end of semester. 3 tests--curved.
funny old man. hes the best physics professor out of long beach's weak physics department.
I took him this summer for lecture, and he made the class relatively easy. He curves, which helps tremendously...he has a strange sense of humor, though, but if you just go to his office every once in a while and go to lecture, you'll do well. I recommend him over the other teachers.
he is not very clear, but he is OK.
i took his class last semester. Eventhough i dont like physics at all but he made it easy and clear for me. He gives out 3 exams and curves all of them. Im taking physics 100b with him this semester.
Tahsiri is a very good professor. He makes Physics somewhat enjoyable, which is an incredible accomplishment in and of itself. The course is way easier than those of other professors and Tahsiri cracks funny jokes that will help you remember the subject matter.
I took him for phys 100B and 100B. he is easy and funny. his tests are basicly from examples in the book and lectures. He curves his tests. TAKE HIM!!!!
Worst pro of the phys depart. Should retire or drop dead. Old man can't teach for anything. Forgets what he was talking about during lecture. Not focused. Very rude during office hour also. Don't take
I do not recommend this professor. Do whatever it takes to not take this guy. He thinks he is funny. Furthermore, he is incredibly rude and condescending. I studied hard and still ended up with a C. He claims to give partial credit but he doesn't even when you clearly deserve it. Don't trust that the test will be easy. It won't. NOT RECOMMENDED!
He is kind of unclear, doesn't know what he's doing, and is nice when he is in a good mood, but rude when he loses his temper. U just have to learn on how to deal with him. His tests are OK. not that easy but not that hard either.Curves a lot anyways. And one more thing, don't try cheating on tests cause he uses binoculars to check on students
Nice guy, i liked him. extremely large curves on tests. boring yes, but you dont really have to go to class. I recomend him if you dont like to do any work watsoever.
I strongly recommened this physic teacher over any other physic teacher. For starter the test was curved so much, the way he curved was that he took the average of the scores. So out of a test worth 65 points the average was 17, so 17 was considered a C. That was only three answers right out of 15 question to get a C.
He was so rude to me during his office hours. I did not learn anything from his lectures, I figured it all out of on my own without any help from him and was able to get a B because he curves his tests so much.
I took this professor for both 100A and 100B and I got through both. I love his corny jokes...it takes the edge off of physics. I would recommend taking him if you want to get through you physics with no problem. I recieved a C in part A and a B in part B so he's not too bad...
he's pretty hard to understand but he's funny. He lets you use notes on quizes and tests so you can write down anything you want for the tests. he curves the grades. Take him if you want to get through this class!
Not the greatest lecturer, unclear at times and doesnt always cover material linearly, but its an easy class anyways and he lets you use cheat sheets for exams, doesnt get much easier than that...also got some good laughs from him
In lectures he's cracks corny jokes, but isn't very clear. He makes lots of mistakes and even has typos on the tests. Take him if you want to get through the class but don't care about learning much. The text book isn't clear; he isn't clear. Cheat sheets get you through this class.
Terrible. He doesn't make any sense and if you ask for clarification, he just repeats himself (after mocking you). Plan on teaching yourself. Make sure you start the take home experiments early! One of them takes a month to do!
He seems funny at first, but after a while the class gets to be EXTREMELY POINTLESS to go to. the tests are all hard conversion math problems/physics. he did grade on a curve though. class is a total waste of time.
I dont understand why many of you think that he is hard he isnt that hard. The truth is just read everything in the book and go to tutoring in the horn center and trust me you will definitely pass the class. Also he curves the test like crazy so he's really easy i recommend that you take him plus he's really funny.
Long story short: Worst teacher I've ever had! Don't take him for Astr 100 if you don't have to..
didnt read the book and still got a B. tests were hard but he curves big time. class average was 15/30ish so 15 was a C on tests. hes just a silly lil man, pointless but funny and dont learn much but take him for easy grading.
His lectures are difficult to understand. He would do an example problem on the board then after he finished he would realize he made a mistake then tell us to fix it at home. Unless you want to teach yourself from the book take someone else.
Extremely difficult to understand.
HE IS THE BEST. he's really easy, I recommend that you take him.
The class is difficult if you don't attend. He's super lenient with the midterms and he usually hands out most of the answer on his reviews. beware his class is suppperrrr boring! i used to book during his tests and thats it.
You know those professors that are just too old? This that guy 10 years later. His lectures are quite useless as they're riddled with mistakes. He refuses to take questions during lecture in fear of showing his stupidity. Final was 40% of grade; out of everything he told us to study, nothing was on there. I am a 5th year and first failed class ever
If you already have a good understanding of Physics TAKE THIS CLASS. However, if you don't I strongly suggest you take another...for one reason he doesn't TEACH you at all during his lectures, but he assigns very little homework and the only time I spent for this class was to study for the exams which aren't hard to pass since he heavily curves it.
Tahsiri was the worst professor I have ever had. He does curve like crazy which is the only way I got an 'A' (even having taken this class at a CC that didn't transfer). His classes are VERY boring, he isn't approachable because he doesn't understand you, doesn't answer question during class, and you don't learn much. Thumbs down.
I am very proud to be his class. I really enjoy jokes he make yet he is very serious. I like turtles. He will not be easy , you don't want easy professor...he will make you strong like Russian Bear.
I dont understand why many of you think that he is hard he isnt that hard. he is so nice and funny man. if you want to learn and pass the class take him.
I dont understand why many of you think that he is hard he isnt that hard.he is so nice, funny and easy professor. if you want learn and pass the class, take him.
He is a very nice man, and his accent is hard to place, but not difficult to understand. While people don't do very well on his exams, he curves generously, and if one does all or even some of the work, they will learn a lot about astronomy.
One particular midterm had a high score of 80 (which is what I got), so I went to his office hours to see what I got wrong. Turns out I got 100%, and he made mistakes on 2 problems. He corrected my grade because I saw him personally, but he didn't give credit to anyone who didn't see him personally, and he didn't tell the class about the mistake.
Don't bother buying the textbook he gives you 5 online options to do the homework and teaches out of one of those online books. Tests were multiple choice and only like 7 really easy questions. He doesnt teach very well but he tests are easy and he lets you use a cheat sheet.
He is a nice-ish guy, but not a good teacher. I didn't learn anything at all from him, what I did learn were things that I learned from the book. No one does well on the tests but he curves them sometimes. Online practice tests are helpful on tests, hw not horrible. I stopped going to class halfway through the semester. BUY THE BOOK.
Not at all the best professor.. class is very boring and pointless since you learn more from the book than from his lectures.. he does curve grades with very few people actually getting A's or B's this class is a total WASTE OF TIME don't take unless you absolutely have to
Horrible teacher, takes at least 15 min everyday to set up the power point, speaks with his back to the class and teaches absolutely nothing. Takes the mid term questions from the online take home quizzes so do those, DON'T ATTEND THE LECTURE its just a waste of time.
The way the guy teaches does not easily translate. You will have to learn on your own. Doesn't mean you shouldn't come to class he gives extra credit sometimes. His tests are easy if you understand. I found them excruciating.
A very poor teacher. To explain things he would use his hands or give very obscure examples. He would tell the class to "say yes" when he asked a question. What kind of teaching is that? I was always left wondering what kinds of questions would be on the test. He's just not organized or clear, so I would recommend you choose another professor.
This professor has rather ridiculous expectations. Unless you understand the material, and how to derive the formulas, you are going to have a hard time on his tests. His tests are multiple choice, if you don't show work, YOU will lose credit. He changed the weight of his exams, and homework several times throughout the semester. Avoid if possible.
explains concepts well and does plenty of examples in class. go to his office hours for additional help as he doesn't answer questions in class. do webassign (non-mandatory) to get extra practice--helped me get my A!
Super unorganized. No study guides. I studied off the powerpoints on beachboard, but they weren't always super helpful or clear. I do not recommend unless you want to buy the expensive textbook and study on your own.
This professor is ridiculous. I couldn't understand anything he talked about, and eventualy gave up going to class and outlined and learned the chapters myself. The grade consists of 3 tests and some take home quizzes. If you are willing to do a ridiculous amount of studying and teach yourself the material its fine. He is impossible. Avoid!
First off the book is terrible, no solution manual. Professor Tahsiri is very funny and helpful during office hours. Show up to class because he tells you which sections will be on the tests. If you are good at physics this is an easy A. If your completely new like me your going to struggle. Use tutors and the Lab TA's to check your work.
Always got off topic, tests were nothing like the problems he assigned, made physics so much more confusing than it should be.
the material is interesting and he tries to make class fun but it's really not that fun. he's hard to understand so sit close! attendance is mandatory the first few weeks then it's not. study the online quizzes he makes you take and take lots of notes and you'll do fine.
