Professor Brands tells some great stories and made my Foreign Policy class relatively interesting. He is really good at giving clear explainations of complicated events. Likes to embellish on own stories quite a bit. Very tough though, we were expected to read over 10 historical/political novels over the course and the workload was substantial.

He tells great stories that really connect history to things we can relate to. He does divert a lot, but he always finds his way back to the main point, which he usually writes on the board. He wants you to truly learn about history and expects you to re-teach him the material on the tests, which I think is awesome.

Probably one of the coolest professors I've had. I swear, he's written a book on just about everything. He really loves what he teaches, and he has such a goofy character about him that it makes lecture pretty exciting. The class work was tough, 90% of the grade was just 3 tests and 3 papers. Overall, a great class to take.

Dr. Brands is the epitome of a perfect professor. I HATED history, but he made it completely awesome. I cannot recommend him highly enough. The tests are out of the textbook--which he wrote--and are open ended. 3 papers, 3 tests, 12 quizzes. I dropped due to an awful, grade-stingy TA, but I think Brands is a absolute genius.

I LOVE PROFESSOR BRANDS. He had two books that were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize. His lectures you don't have to take note, just listen. Pop quizzes are more writing down the answer if you don't know. You learn a lot by the end of the semester. What is important about the grade is the TA, if they are a tough grader or not.

Not very passionate about history but the class was fairly easy if you just try. 50% of your grade comes from just going to class and completing easy reading assignments (ctrl + F). However the 2 essays were graded pretty strictly (little more lenient on the book report and cliovis). Id recommend having your TA look it over and you should be ok
