very straightforward and very prompt. expectations caused a positive learning environment
Very good insight.
Outstanding. Well informed. Highly Articulate. Insightful as to the Material. Clear expectations. Good use of humor. Exams were on point with class materials, and graded fairly. One of the best Profs I've ever had.
Ok, let me put it this way... it IS possible to fail an open book test. The WHOLE CLASS figured that out. He claimed what was in the book was wrong. This man can't teach his way out of a paper bag. Don't take him if you have the chance.
He talks way to fast and you cant understand anything he says he pronounces everythign differently than what it really is so its VERY easy to get confused
Dr. Ghebre-Ab is my favorite professor.
the whole class failed open book test. he did not structure the test like he said.
I had the same test that everyone else did and did not fail. If you are there for the lecture, do the homework assignments, and read the book. You can pass the class. The people who rated Dr. G aren't serious about learning.
He's a sexy ****!!!
What a nice guy. His tests were great if you like open book.
Hard to understand, tests had little to do with the in class work, and his answers were argueable.
He was an alright professor. He was very hard to understand but he told you everything that would be on the test so I just highlighted the answers and I did fine.
I loved the class... he helped me understand what my teachers before him just left in a blur... the best history teacher ive had this far!
I didnt like this class at all. He seemed very unapproachable and you must have everything in the correct format to a tee! I turned in my assignments and he got mad because they were not stapled ( they were too thick.I thought this was ridiculous because i had used a folder and i ended up just paper clipping them.
Best teacher ever..made history come alive
you are DUMB if you dont get an A in his class. he gives you the questions (exactly) before the test, you go through your book and highlight the answers and the test is open book. need i say more?!
Fantastic lecturer
I dreaded taking a history class. But after going to a couploe of Prof. Ghebre-Ab's class, i changed my attitude. His class ended bup becoming the best class I have ever taken. He is smart and sophisticated. If you ask him for help, he does so gladly. I am taking him again.
Anyone who does not like his class is crazy. He is very intelligent and knows his****. AND he makes the class extremely interesting. His questions on his test can be tricky though. Oh ya, plus, i didnt have a hard time understanding him at all. just me though
He's the easiest teacher I've ever had. I never did any preparation for class. He always gives you the test questions a week before the test and the tests are multiple choice and open book. He doesn't require you to hand in any hmwk. If you don't get an A you must be an idiot and/or the product of thousands of generations of inbreeding.
The coolest and most serious prof on campus about teaching. Awesome lectures. Totally organized. Great sense of humor. Fantastic British accent. You will never have enough of him.
Great lectures! Very fun and energetic man, just what you need for a history class. He may give open book tests but you still have to know the material to even find it in the book. I like that he allows YOU to be the one to fail yourself. But gives you all the tools to succeed. Top Prof.!!!!!!!!!!
Great personality, fun to have as a professor. But its a lot of work, you have to work for your grade(as any!). Usually open book tests, so having a book is mandatory!!!
Umm...I guess I'm weird, I don't like him nearly as much as everyone else here does. I def learned alot, but it's just becuase I read the book...it wasn't really from his teaching. And he seemed to be quite condescending at times. And a lot of us were extremely confused at the beginning of the course because he seems to be unclear about things
I can't say enough about this wonderful professor. Dr. Ghebre-Ab is the nicest guy and he is obviously very passionate about teaching. He has a very interesting background and is very concerned about his students. I don't know about the guy below, but this professor is clear as crystal! Great guy. I recommend him wholeheartedly.
He was alright. He was nice, and he gave you the test questions in advance so you could highlight your book (reccomended). He uses groups in his class, which was pretty pointless, especialy if your fellow group members are idiots. Overall he wasnt horrible.
Ghebre-Ab was one of the greatest professors I ever had, its been 3yrs since I took his class and I will never forget him.
He really makes you think and actually read your textbook. He gives you a study guide pretty much but you have to read and answer the questions and not just skim the material but know the material. He may be tough but he's good!
He's tough,a lot of reading, making you actualy learn stuff. Gah! What kind of teacher does that?! Seriously, if you have any kind of motivation to learn his class is simple. If you're lazy you wont do well.
I really enjoyed this class. My group did not like the him at all, and he didnt like our group. the only bad thing was that i was stuck in a group that was not very favorable. but in all honesty i really enjoyed this class.
He is great. All tests are open book or take home. He is funny and fair. Just do what he tells you to and you will do fine.
He is a great teacher and knowledgeable about history. The tests are open book, but he asks very specific questions . So make sure to read and keep up with class. If you come to class prepared then you'll do fine.
I had him and he was not a nice person to me. He is hard to understand. He actually made a friend of mine cry. DON'T TAKE HIM if you can help it.
Save yourself if you are a serious student. Don't dare challenge him - he takes it personal and then takes it out on you. Unapproachable. Demeaning. Condescending. If he could get past his ego, he'd be a great teacher, but he's all about himself. Test answers are wrong.Such a waste of a good teacher
Be careful, he does have an ego, and is also a sucker to suck-ups. His class will require you to know everything in the text. He is challenging, and time consuming. DO NOT TAKE HIS AMERICAN HISTORY COURSES, they are no good. TAKE his Western Civilizations, or European history because he is passionate about those topics. You better be ready!!
I am an extremely serious student, made a 3.9gpa last quarter and still managed to fail the open book tests...it's like he cares more about tricking you to pass the class than actually caring whether or not you know the material. His Amer. Hist. class is a joke, i would suggest taking someone else. PS> his ego is rediculous and he is extremely OCD!
I feel that Prof. Ghebre Ab presents the information clearly and is a very fair professor. It's not an easy class but this is college and he gives you the tools to do well in it. If you do not use those tools that is your fault.
Huge disappointment for serious students. Inflated ego, unapproachable and no help at all. Tests are open book but worded to trick you. Does not review test answers for scantron mistakes. Openly admitted he does not take interest in student's grades. Purposely demeaning and rude. Did not offer evaluation sheets to class to be rated. Beware of him!
Very vague and deameaning. The Professor is very unclear with the course and what is expected to recieve a good or even passable grade in his class. I strongly suggest for no one to take his class. The worst professor I've had.
Worst teacher ever. I did love history but not now because of him.
Good teacher
He doesn't really teach that well. He gives you a set of questions to answer each week. You have to write them in your notes & show them to him. Then you have to discuss & write out the answers in a group. The group is where you do most of the work. HIS TESTS ARE ALL SCANTRONS. He doesn't review them for errors or anything. I don't recommend him.
His lectures aren't the most clear. And his tests are just about impossible to pass-even when they're open-book! I read the book, studied hard core for 4 days and still got a 73% on the test...that's with a curve. He doesn't check for errors in the scantrons. I don't reccomend taking him.
I took many of his classes and he is one of the best Ive ever had. I love this guy. If your an intelligent hard working student his courses are worth taking. If your lazy or not so intelligent, dont bother.
Hard to understand a lot of the times. Was kind of funny sometimes, but really weird/rude a lot. I never listened to his lectures because they did not pertain to his tests at all. I taught myself everything in that class, but the good thing is, he let us use our books on every test.
Professor is good. He wants you to do well if you show up and participate. You get what you give here...tests are a bit hard but they were open book. Take good notes and you should be just fine!
He was a very disrespectful person and extremely rude. Definitely the WORST professor Uc has to offer!!!!!!
I really liked him. You have to work for your grade (we are in college). I do agree that the tests were hard even being open book. I prefer essays to multiple choice. Still, if you read the chapter 3-4 times and take good notes you will do fine. It was the lazy people in my group that made the class suck, except 2 who were stellar!
Brilliant man! I didn't find his class to be very difficult at all, so long as you do the reading and study; he does not assign long papers or anything. For some reason alot of my class mates seemed overwhelmed, however, I think alot of them just couldn't stand the idea of actually having to read a chapter out of their text books every week.
Had absolutely no textbook and no readings. His lectures were completely and utterly pointless; he clarified nothing. He gave us absolutely no help for our test and there was no textbook assigned for African history for us to study with. He's nice personally but as a professor steer clear.
I loved taking his class. He does have a very different sense of humor, so I can see why some may not have liked his class. His class wasn't too difficult. He told us exactly what to study and the tests were open book. No mid term or final. Just 1 test every 2 chapters
Pretty great professor overall, but you'll only pass his class if you do things his way (which are relatively easy). Just make sure to read the chapter so you know where to go during the tests which are open book. He's very funny, but isn't afraid to pick on people so don't take it offensively- he means no harm.
Great professor.
He's an okay person. But I had all A's before his class. He is very anal about things and wants everything his way. He barely teaches. You basically have to teach yourself. He doesn't even use power points and picks on the students.. Not a teacher I would recommend. I wish I would of just taken online American History..
Super easy A. Just read the text book and follow directions. Test are online 2 hour open book, and he gives study guides! I took the accelerated summer course.
He is decent at teaching. He knows a lot of information and is passionate about the subject. Sometimes he seems to try to be funny, but he's a bit odd... It was mildly annoying at times. Also, he is very particular. VERY particular. Don't screw up a bit or it will cost you your grade! I'd prefer not to take anymore classes by him again.
Fantastic class! Guidelines- he's strict, communicate with him during lectures. His lectures are insightful and his passion for history keeps your interest. Great class structure, consistent. Loved the class!
This man is a joke of a teacher. He thinks its okay to treat students in a rude manner. You cannot understand his accent, but he doesnt care. If you ask a question, he'll make you feel dumb. Having this man as a professor is like having Michael Scott as a boss, as in you'd get so much more done without him... and he has a terrible sense of humor.
He sets up a schedule for the entire semester. I took him on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so every tuesday we would have a lecture and every thursday would be mandatory group work. The lectures are so terrifyingly boring and ridiculously strung out that no one showed up on tuesdays. Every single test question is on Quizlet. You're welcome.
Online course. Professor took weeks to respond to emails, did not answer questions or give clear feedback. Syllabus was wrong, information he uploaded was inaccurate. No clear grading system and can't really use technology. WORST online course and professor I've ever taken. Would NOT recommend.
This guy is by is the worst instructor I have had in 6 years of college. Do Not Take This Class Online. I repeat, Do Not Take This Class Online. This guy doesn't teach anything. He gave us these poor Powerpoints that didn't cover all the material needed for midterm and final essay questions. Do yourself a favor, and choose a different Prof.
I think professor Habtu Ghebre-Ab is a great teacher. He expects his student to gain knowledge like adults. He doesn't do any hand holding and that's what I particularly like. He's very knowledgeable and very devoted to his passions. I give him a 5 out of 5 as a professor (:
This professor was the most unorganized, unprofessional professor I have ever had. He would make the syllabus according to the schedule and then he would not be able to attend class (yet your attendance was mandatory). His study guides were in order but he would randomly skip or repeat questions, and also asks the questions unclearly.
This class isn't too bad. Tests are online, and everything else is just group work assignments that are homework. I would DEFINITELY take this professor again.
I took this class online. Easiest class I have ever taken. You write 7 papers and take 7 tests. No discussion boards or big final project. He is a slow grader and does not believe in 100% on papers. Does not give feedback so you don't know how to correct papers. Never spoke to the teacher or students once. You work on your own schedule. EASY A+
Took this as a summer semester online class. Every week was 2 chapters of reading, study guide posted on Thursday and a quiz on Saturday. If you read the chapters and use some online resources for the study guide he provides you will do fine. The study guide directly reflects the quiz each week.
Absolutely the worst course experience I have ever had. The class was entirely automated and the professor could not even manage to bother calculating grades at the end. I am not sure what the requirements are to teach at the University of Cincinnati Clermont campus, but I suggest spending an extra $20 and going to UC Blue Ash.
Can be rude when you don't understand something. Isn't very organized.
He is very vague not very organized either. You get four grades throughout the whole semester, meaning only four assignments. Map quiz, midterm, final and final paper. He does not believe in good writing, most likely to score under a 90%. He post lessons each week with readings but nothing else with it. This is not the way to learn. Worst prof yet.
I took an online African History course from Professor Ghebre-ab, and he was among the worst professors I've ever dealt with. From incorrect due dates, absurd inactivity, and blatant disregard for effort through communication, Professor Ghebre-ab is without a doubt the least capable online professor I've ever seen. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE.
This Prof. did not teach for a second of the class. All the learning was done via textbook readings. He also required 2 different textbooks for the course (probably because he did no teaching). He took 4-6 days to reply to emails and when he did reply, he never actually answered my questions. Assignments were incredibly vague. 0/10 rating.
I haven't even gone through one week and I am already on here. He is the worst professor I have ever had. He does not teach at all. You pay him to tell you to read the book! He makes you pay to take your quizzes on another site and does not respond to emails quickly. I will be reporting him to the school! listen - DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!
His tests aren't his and are extraordinarily rote. Questions are intentionally aimed at confusing the student and require fact memorization from a book that lacks citation vs. learning through comparison/critical thinking. Even more insulting is that he doesn't teach, but assigns reading with a follow up test. Learning won't take place.
Simply the worst. All his tests are straight from test banks, but he has no effort in his assignments. Read a speech and fill in blanks, but oh, gotta do it right! Lincoln wasn't just President, he was the 16th President! -5 points!! Need to talk to him? Wait a month to speak on the phone then get talked down to. How is this man a professor. Wow.
Please dont take this class. assigns one assignment every week and gives little to no feedback. is impossible to reach and doesn't help with anything. its not that bad if you want an easy grade but you learn literally nothing. if you ever have questions about anything ever probably don't take this class.
I do not know where to start. Do NOT take this class with this professor. There are no lectures, there is no feedbacks so he is pulling grades from his own judgment. Complained to higher ups and they gave me the run around. UC Clermont needs to fire him. You take an exam every two weeks based off reading but he doesn't teach.
Showed very little care for students and their grades. He wasn't approachable and took forever to respond to emails. He didn't explain his grading process or why we would lose points on assignments.
Solely textbook readings for online, no lectures/group work. Tests and PDAs are every other week. PDAs are hard because he doesn't give feedback on what you did wrong- the key is to do both textbook readings, answer questions using full sentences, use proper grammar/punctuation, do some outside research, and give detailed responses.
Professor Didn't really do much teaching just told us to read from our books. Had students grade our own work which I find a little ridiculous in college courses. Was also quite rude and condescending to students.
Professor Ghebre-Ab's in-person class is somewhat lecture-heavy, but the lectures have little to do with the tests. Most of the lectures were engaging and informative, but the tests you would take had nothing to do with them. Participation is crucial in the course; being absent or tardy can completely dismantle your grade.
I'm unsure of his personality due to him being very kind and very passive aggressive on two occasions. However, he grades your work with a hypercritical eye and I'm convinced he hasn't given out a single 100% in his life (even if he doesn't note any flaws in your work). He consistently struggled with technology and grading correctly.
I liked this professor but it wasn't very professor based. He didn't give lectures or anything like tbat. There are two assignments due every two weeks over reading like 2-3 chapters. They are really long chapters and his grading criteria isn't super clear but if you reference the text you'll be fine!
Assigned the first assignments of the semester the same day for a full refund to dropout. Posts incorrect info and unclear instructions for assignments. Assigns two large assignments within a week when he can give us two (one week is just for reading). Very passive-agressive in emails. Turned a subject I love into something I dread.
VERY rude, whole class is automated. Super tough at grading and does a terrible job with instructions. EASILY worst professor ive ever had
