Teaches lecture for chem lab. Basically reviews material covered in normal chem lecture through youtube videos.
he can't and doesn't really teach... his TA's teach the actual classes (if u get mark, he's really cool). lectures are boring, but you have to go
He's such a hard grader! He goes on like he expects you to know what you're doing and supposed to do. Monotoned, unclear and unhelpful most of the time. You really don't have an option but to take him because he's the dept head. Most times, you're lucky to get a TA.
Sorry to say it, but you're basically on your own in this class, buddy. He's not a great professor.
if you enjoy coming to class and waiting to be called on just because you have no clue what's going on and humiliated take him!!!! he literally shows powerpoints that he goes through WAY too fast that barely scrape over what he actually puts on the test, shows stupid youtube videos, and explains nothing. if you do ask questions he is so rude
Took him for Basic Chemistry. Show up to class; there will be several extra credit opportunities. It's pretty easy if you pay attention. I made very good grades on the quizzes/tests. Test problems are fairly identical to the practice problems he gives during lecture-- so GO TO CLASS
Lab Lecture was a very mundane class and very repeptitive, but Dr. Arman made it tolerable. He's a very smart guy and really nice. If you try and make an effort, he'll be more than pleased with you. Not much involved in the lab itself (go to your TA for all that) but from the questions I had asked him concerning the lab he was very helpful.
This class was horrible! You can read the textbook and know it from cover to cover and still fail the test. The test questions are way more complicated than the book. His lectures are boring and to understand him you literally have to sit on the front row. He calls name to answer questions!!! BORING CLASS!
Dr. Arman is a nice guy but his Basic Chem class can get difficult. Expect him to use Gen Chem principles and problems on homework and quizzes since that's his usual class. Tests are difficult since they cover 4 chapters worth of calculations. Make sure you know your processes and when to use them otherwise you're SOL, even with a calculator.
I took him for basic chem, he assumes you already know most of the material. Very hard grader! Avoid him if possible, he might be better for upper level classes but don't take him for basics. Unreachable, doesn't respond to emails, won't let you retake test/quizzes. Makes simple concepts even harder, which might be good for Gen chem 1, but it sucks
If taking for basic chem stay away! Difficult class. Basically teach yourself whole semester. If you have to take him, sit in the front and pay attention!!
The class did not at all follow what was described at the beginning of the semester. He had zero desire for any of his students to succeed and frequently would call of people simply because they didn't look like they knew what they were doing.
Horrible. He doesn't seem to give a damn. I think he is probably overworked which adds to his disinterest in his students.
Do not take this teacher!!! He does not care about you at all. He teaches at a level way higher than basic chemistry. He does not teach but rather puts up ppts and expect you to know how to work problems. He needs to be a teacher at a Graduate level. Not basic chemistry, you will Fail if chemistry is not your strongest area of study.
Do not take this class! He thinks that you already know everything, he won't help youu,, if you need help you have to attend SI session which aren't helpful!!! It doesn't matter which your situation is,, he goes to fast in the learning process, too much work. But not help!!!! So, if you want or need basic chemistry DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HIM
This man would much rather be in his X-ray room than teaching class. He changed the class schedule frequently, left out data, and forgot equations on power points and didn't tell anyone!! Lab reports were LONG and DETAILED taking 10+ hrs (no joke) and most of the class failed them. Only saving part was the optional book and massive curve at the end
I disagree with many comments. HE DOES CARE. More than my TA did, in fact. He'll curve quizzes the class does bad on and arrange several make up labs for you if necessary (he also understood extra complications I had) The format of problems in the ppts and lab manual are almost identical to quizzes/exams, so read them (got me an A).
If you want to learn, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! this guy doesn't bother explaining,is bothered when you ask questions during class, expects you to learn things with one power point slide. seriously do not recommend him at all
He's a pretty horrible teacher. Stands at the front of the class and reads the powerpoint to you. Honestly, I feel like I'm wasting money because I could easily sit at home and teach myself chemistry better than this guy. He does practice problems in class but hardly anyone knows how to do them because they don't understand the lecture.
I took Professor Arman for Basic Chem and he taught it like we were in an upper level chemistry class. He goes over the material very fast and his tests are extremely hard
Weeding Out Class. Unnecessarily hard because he knows how easy the class really is. If you fail a quiz, you automatically fail the lab. Attendance is MANDATORY. If you miss a lecture, you are BARRED from attending the lab. If you fail 3 labs, you fail the class. He is also a pompous. "Only refer to me as Dr. Arman". Don't waste the time
I cannot think of one pleasant word to describe this horrible professor. don't take!
His basic chemistry class covers almost all the content of a general chemistry class. He is unforgiving and harsh. He is very intelligent. This class is diligent conditioning for a future in chemistry. Don't be fooled by his low rating, the class will likely help you in the long run. Just make sure you're ready to try hard.
Just reads off a PowerPoint and gives you practice questions. His class is hard you pretty much have to teach yourself, The tests are all multiple choice. Has Pop-Quizzes and gives homework almost everyday. Even though class is not mandatory I advise you to not miss a class or you will be behind and lost.
Worst Professor ever. Do not take him unless you want to teach yourself. Homework is long and hard. In class tests are even harder
This guy does not know what he's doing, do not take him!!!! His quiz are only 3 questions and if you do bad on it you will lose a huge amount of points.
Do not take this class!!! Very unhelpful and harsh!! He rushes through everything, once gave a 20 question quiz in 60 seconds, no time to think! He just reads off power points and doesn't explain well.
Dr arman is awesome. The class is hard but its chemistry. It's a weed out class. He always answered my questions and would post extra practice stuff online for us when we asked him too. Some he did on his own accord. He posted practice exams to help u work faster. You need to be able to work FAST.
Dr arman is awesome. You just have to work hard to pass this class. Imagine that - having to put in work to get a good grade. In college?!? Shocking!
Professor Arman is a great teacher if you work hard and show a genuine interest in learning the material. I went to his office hour frequently to ask questions about the online lab assignments. There were many assignments and you need to be very organized to keep up with everything. I made an A+ by being organized and diligent. Very nice guy!
All you have to do is to go to his class, print out his ppts and come prepared for his class. do the HW and his practice problems. thats it, His class is not that hard if you do the work!
NON-SCIENCE MAJORS BEWARE!!! Arman's basic chemistry class is an unnecessarily difficult waste of time (if you are a science major, don't complain). He doesn't make the material any easier being that the guy literally (and I mean literally) reads off of the PPts. Hell, if that's all being a professor entitles, then I might as well teach the class!
Do NOT take this guy for Gen Chem I lab, the amount of work for this 1 credit hour course is absurd. I spend more hours per week on this lab than I do my Physics II lab and Microbio lab combined. And he is a huge stickler about little insignificant details, so when you mess up on those, expect to lose major points.
He will give you quizes and homework almost everyday
Do not take! always made A's until I got to his class! Confusing and not helpful at all!1st day of class he will tell you how many people will fail his class! Not motivating or clear in lectures and just reads off power points that you can do yourself!
He is very unclear on his points and just reads off a powerpoint. If you aren't a genius at chemistry do not take he just confuses you on topics you should already know.
Class is extremely difficult. He just reads the powerpoints. Not very helpful. The book he chose isn't the best. Overall do not take his class. Not recommended.
Arman is a straightfoward professor. He explains what he expects prior to class. Yes, he picks on some people, but usually the ones that do not pay attention. Class is simple if you pay attention and keep up with the work. Although those pop quizzes are extremely difficult. Nice man, simple class.
Not recommended for NON-science majors!! The class is fairly advanced for a basic chem class, but it prepares you for the upper level chemistry courses. If you do the homework and do the practice questions he posts online, you'll do well in the class. It's as simple as that. If you don't attend the class or do the work, expect to fail his class.
WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. Do NOT take his class!
This class is definitely difficult; however, utilizing the book, attending SI sessions, and studying makes an "A" very obtainable. He gives extra credit opportunities and by the end of the semester things get a lot easier. He may seem rude but going up to him for help and showing him your interested will help out a lot.
He is very confusing the only reason I passed the class is because of my SI. He is very confusing. He assigns online hw and quizzes for every chapter and are given two attempts. If you don't make at least a 60 on the hw you can't open the quiz so that's an automatic zero. Make sure to study before you go into class! Avoid taking this class !
He is a very cut and dry professor that expects a large amount of work. Can be in a bad mood and will call people out in class and tests on the exceptions/harder to memorize material. It is not impossible, just listen, DON'T cheat and do the work. Though if you can take another prof, do it. Also uses iclickers for daily quizzes which is a pain.
I did not like him as a teacher. It didn't seem like he enjoys teaching. He calls out students when they miss certain problems on the homework. If you do not already have a good background in chemistry, do not take him.
Dr. Arman's class will really prepare you for upper level chemistry classes. He teaches at a fast pace but use the textbook! Go to class everyday, he has a dry sense of humor if you're into that, and study thoroughly. You will learn a lot in his class and I would recommend him to anyone.
He is by far the worst chemistry teacher that exists. He does not answer questions. He does not care what you make in the class. He doesn't teach well and his tests are way more advanced than what basic chemistry requires. DROP THE CLASS. I didn't believe these reviews until I took the class-your GPA will be killed in this class
This guy must really hate his job because he looks so miserable. He seems to have a bad attitude about everything. If you ask any questions, you will get a sarcastic answer. If you walk in 2 mins late, you will be put on blast. He will find the smallest thing possible to blow up The amount of work that must be done for 1 credit is ridiculous also.
Dr. Arman has that "tough love" kind of teaching method. He will definitely call you out if you didn't do a problem right. Sure he's a tough but you will learn a lot from him. The grade you get-you deserve & reflects the effort you put into your studying. Taking CHEM I after having Dr. Arman seemed like a review for the rest of that course.
Someone listed him as a "tough love" kind of prof and I can't think of a better way to describe him. He's super keen on using the i-clickers to test attendance and quizzing but I'd highly recommend going to class anyway. I wish I wouldve visited his office hour sooner because he is super helpful one-on-one. Not easy but he wants you to pass.
Good tough professor. Class is not mandatory but would recommend you attend since there are a lot of in class quizzes. Most students who put in the amount of work required should do well in this class. Go to the professor during his office hours, super helpful. Doesn't suffer fools but will go above and beyond to help students.
Dr. Arman is a great professor. You will not be able to simply float through this class if you are not motivated, however if you wish to understand the fundamentals of chemistry his Basic Chem. course will ensure that you are ready to handle Gen Chem. If you wish to understand, take Arman!
For the gen chem 1 with a TA: expect constant typos, with in-class labwork, and online work. There will be countless typos and it's likely you will feel like your not meeting standards by making constants C's and end up with an A. The whole chem dept. is little to no help. gl.
Stay away. Especially non-science majors. PPTs are useless. Expects you to know everything before class. Daily graded quizzes. Two types of hw for each chapter. TELLS you that he will put common mistake answers on the test so you can get them wrong. I don't know what else to say. Safe yourself and don't take this guy. He needs to chill.
This lab is a joke. I have 3 other science classes and this lab is more work than all combined. Makes you write a 4 page pre-lab write up of what's already written in your lab manual. Online pre lab quizzes have typos so you miss questions due to his errors. Only chemistry I lab professor at UTSA so you can't avoid him. Good luck, you'll need it!
This class time wise 11 other hours taking. He doesn't care. This lab will affect your other classes. Faculty basically pays him to teach all basic chem and gen chem and is tough for tenure. Not his fault too many kids taking gen chem wanting to be doctors. Weed out class. WEED OUT CLASS. Hope your a freshman to devote TIME.
Hardest science class ever. omg hate him. i wouldn't recommend taking his class ever, EVER! Expects you to know stuff. Be prepared to teach your self or to use your phone to google at any chance you can. Says you can buy a text book but isn't clear, "all chem books are the same" big help...
His method of teaching is power points that he reads off of (and posts online) and iClicker quizzes you do every day. I had to teach myself the material because he was not teaching me anything. And the amount of homework you have for each chapter is ridiculous.
Very disrespectful to students, frequently yells in class, just reads stuff from slides when he does lecture, but most of the time it's just in class quizzes.
FIRE HAZARD! During exams he is pretty ridiculous . Teaching is low par, you pretty much have to teach yourself. Iclicker quizzes every class, but he is lenient on the grading. Just study your buns off. He also has eyes of a hawk @_@
He posts all of the PPTS online which is extremely beneficial. He does give almost daily iClicker quizzes but they are well curved and fairly easy. A lot of student will say he is rude or mean but that is just the way he likes to come off. In reality, he will help you if you need it and you show him you can work hard. The tests are not difficult.
Dr. Arman isn't too friendly to talk to. If you email him a question and he thinks it is dumb, he won't respond. Expect to do more work for this 1 credit lab than your other 3 credit courses. There is also no flexibility with absences if you must miss class for legitimate reasons.
Here's the deal with this chem teacher, he can be mean, rude, and just very blunt with any sort of student that asks a question. if you ask for help he will sometimes make you feel dumb. if you try to email him something expect a long wait for a response. he teaches to a certain extent but it'll be you teaching yourself. pop quizsome days,GoodLuck
He means well but is not always clear. Definitely a nice guy who cares about his students. Super cute too.
Dr Arman is a good guy. Don't know why he has such bad reviews. He curves grades and his test are not made with the intention of tricking you. Chemistry is hard, but if you study even a little, you can make it.
Very difficult professor. Assigns too much unreasonable online homework and you wont learn much from his lectures. Iclicker quizzes everyday. However the grading scale is brought down to 88 for an A and 74 for a B and he is also a nice guy in person and will help you if you see him during office hours. He is the hardest gen chem 1 professor.
Arman is mean, but he knows his stuff. Most of the time he only gets upset when kids cheat or mess around
Sorry to those taking gen chem lab, but for the time being you can't avoid Arman. This is the most time consuming 1 hour course you will ever take. It will be as much, if not more work than any of your other classes. The whole thing will feel like pure busy work - which is really the only way to make a lab time consuming. Arman seems grouchy!
It is a tough class. It WILL take over your semester. It WILL require more work than all of your other classes COMBINED. You will LEARN chemistry. There is no messing around in this class. There is a powerpoint group presentation at the end. If your TA is a tough grader he'll curve at the end to normalize the sections. Made an A. You can doit
If you go to class and do all of your homework, you should be fine. He likes to come off as not helpful, but if you go talk to him one-on-one, he's not as rude as you'd think. Don't fret too much over the in-class quizzes, they'll average out in the end.
Worst professor ever. Literally just reads from the slides without adding any value as a professor. Quizzes every class and every test is on the iClickers, and you don't get any feedback on them. He's also just plain unhelpful to any students who come and talk to him. Final verdict: AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
He reads right off the slides. I had him just for the lab lecture. Although he has a reputation to be strict, he was very helpful when I asked for help. He was understanding when I reached out to him.
Arman is a tough teacher, but if you really want to learn Chemistry (or don't), I can assure you if you want to pass you'll learn it. He has a tough exterior that can be very intimidating, but if you ask a question duringafter class, he's very nice about it. In class quizzes everyday over the lastupcoming notes, READ AHEAD AND PAY ATTENTION
Dr. Arman wasn't the best chemistry teacher, but his class is pretty easy. As long as you study enough and do the assignments it's a really easy A. He's helpful 1 on 1, but he's kind of sarcastic during class. His quizzesreviewshomework are always way harder than the actual tests.
Course content wasn't that bad, and neither was the professors teaching. But there was so much HW! He uses McGraw-Hill Connect, so you have to readanswer questions about the chap, do ch. HW, and ch. quiz for each test (mult ch.) If you do all this though, and understand it all, then tests will be easy.
He is great. Hard and tough yet great.
Arman is not the clearest of persons. He has so many assignments its frustrating. His lab lecture is just him literally reading his own powerpoints. Could you pass? yes, but with a lot of work.
Avoid at all costs. His powerpoints have typos left and right, and sometimes even he doesn't notice them. Very unclear in his lectures, and super boring. Quizzes are basically everyday, so you basically HAVE to look through his monotonous powerpoints before class. Not worth it. He makes chemistry boring, sadly.
He is the best chemistry professor. He explains everything in really simple terms. The only problem with him is that he requires learnsmarts (a program where you read the book and answer a lot of questions) to be completed and it takes too long. If you can do those, though, then you're good. Read the powerpoints before class for iclicker points.
He was an alright teacher. I haven't been in school for a while, and I think that my only problem with him (not sure if other students have this opinion), was that I felt like he goes over one thing once and expects you to just know it for the quizzesassignments. I had to google a lot, and I don't think I need to be paying for school to google.
AVOID!! hardest proffessor ever!! 5 exams NOT including the final+ make sure you don't show up late for the exams because if you do he will just tell you "sorry buddy, too late" and make you leave. quizzes every morning, so make sure you show up on time. crap ton of HW and reading for every chapter. do not take in the morning, you will fall asleep.
His lectures are very basic of what you will need to know and what is on the test, if you just studied lectures, you will not do good on the tests, tons of HW, quiz EVERYDAY at beginning in class, even if you dont get the answers right though, you get a 60, no zeros, except if you do not answer at all
Please don't take him! He gives so much HW and quizzes. Attendance will help your grade but all he does is read from his powerpoints and doesn't make concepts easy to understand. Plus the HW is kinda hard and you only get 2 chances per question. If you don't pass the HW, then you can't take the quiz. It's just so frustrating! Be prepared to cry!
Everyday there are iClicker quizzes (for daily attendance) at the beginning of class (don't be late) over material you should have learned by reading ahead. You wont actually learn the material in class because of the daily quizzes, so you'll have to learn the material on your own. This class will consume all of your time. Warning: don't take Arman
Dr Arman is a good professor. Turn up to class, read his class slides ahead of time (they are provided) and review past, you will have no issues doing the iClicker quizzes he gives each lecture. Exam every couple of chapters. Turn up to lecture, do the reading and homework and talk to Dr Arman if you don't understand something, you can get an A.
If you like being ridiculed for asking a question go ahead and take him. He's honestly not that bad of a professor but he's just so rude that it makes him very unapproachable. Chemistry is not a good course to take when the professor isn't friendly or even the least bit respectful.
Whatever anyone says, he not a bad professor and he teaches very well. Alot of work though for the lab lecture and lab though.
He is very rude, and if you ask a question he thinks its dumb he will reply sarcastically and then laugh at you. Not only that when you ask for help, it seems like he will help you but then he never comes back to address your question. It is like he makes it hard for you to learn! I would not take him.
Plenty of homework questions that you will see again on his tests - study those. Write down questions from class, and ask him about it during his office hours being sure to bring something for him to help you with like homework problems. Has a healthy sense of sarcasm, and is very intelligent. Take class seriously & u'll do well. Lazy won't work.
Chemistry is not hard, but he makes it tough. If you are iffy on the subject, take it with someone else. Be prepared for clicker questions (quizzes and tests are done with them), and be ready for LOTS of online homework.
Dr. Arman may seem intimidating with a tough exterior, but he really cares about his students. He is a great professor who appreciates and praises those who really want to learn what he is teaching. I am now in Gen Chem II, and I still visit Dr. Arman frequently to help me through that class. He is willing to help. Big on iclicker quizzes-read ppts
If you don't want to learn chemistry, don't take this class. You will hate it. However, if you actually care about learning then this class will be great for you. Make sure to always review the lecture slides before class and do your homework--not only is it a grade, but it helps so much. I love how much he makes us practice.
Dr. Arman is very tough. He gives i-clicker quizzes every class, and packs alot of material into his slides. PLENTY of hw and quizzes for each chapter.
He reads off powerpoints and you have to teach yourself. I only went to class for the iclicker quizzes, he does one EVERY class no matter what. He just mumbles and expects you to understand. When you ask questions, he gives rude answers. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL COSTS.
There is an I-Clicker quiz every day. The exams are taken on an I-Clicker. Have you ever tried to put chemical formulas into an I-Clicker? Along with the daily quizzes, there is also online mccgraw hill homework, reading and quizzes, for each chapter. You will need the textbook because you will basically have to teach yourself.
Lab lecture: Confusing PPTs, not very clear on topics, quiz every class. Lab: Ridiculous amt of work for 1 credit hr. Each week: Prelab quiz just to attend lab, 3-4 pg. prelab write-up, 3hr lab, post lab HW Qs, plus 3 papers and 1 presentation. Grades are at the whim of the TA. Arman: Nice enough guy and humorous, very knowledgable, but tough.
Dr. Arman respects and helps those who really put in effort. If he notices consistency, questions, and continued participation he will not hesitate to help you in any way possible. He appreciates hardworking students. His tests are never out of the blue or out to get you. If you study and go to his office hour you're golden.
He has a bad reputation that doesn't really fit. He can be brusque at times, but his jokes make up for it. You are guaranteed a C if you just show up to class. I absolutely hated chemistry before taking him, but I'm almost kind of fond of it now. His teaching methods are very effective, so you shouldn't have much difficulty learning the material.
Completely unorganized, useless in office hours, and sporadic in lectures. Quizzes have 8 answer choices, and his lab is a waste of time. He almost made me change my major into women's studies. But here's the thing; you can't avoid him for lab.
Arman does not care about his students. He expects you to have a higher understanding of the material from the get-go, even when it has not been taught in the lecture portion. He gives quizzes every week that are designed to guarantee low scores. Instead of testing for understanding, he tests to see if you memorized the material.
There's a quiz every week, and it's possible to do well if you live in your lab manuals and notes and memorize EVERYTHING. You can't avoid Dr. Arman, he's the only lab lecturer. Don't take the 8 am lab lecture if you're prone to being late. He absolutely hates it and it puts him in a terrible mood.
Definately not worth it for a 1 credit hour course. Lots of work and you have to memorize everything you "learn in lecture" beforehand to do well on his iclicker quizzes . You don't get to choose anyone but him for the lab lecture but the TA does all of the labs and grading so choose your lab by the TA. 4 those who still have to take a chem lab:
Regardless of what any of these reviews say Dr. Arman is an outstanding professor! Chemistry is a difficult class period, but he takes the time to explain everything, and does not move on until everyone in the class understands. Its alot of material to cover, but he makes it so easy to understand. I would recommend him and take him again if needed.
He's not as bad as everyone made him out to be. In the beginning of the end he really didn't teach at all, but towards the middle of the semester he actually started teaching. He's decent at teaching you the basic, goes really fast so be attentive. LOTS of homework that includes LS chapters and long chapter homework. DAILY QUIZZES.
Dr. Arman has a really bad rep. I have him for gen chem 1 lab lecture and lab. I see him once a week for lecture and he's only showed up to my lab once all year for 5 minutes. The grades merge and theres a practical for the final. You have to do a prelab writeup, prelab quiz, postal quiz, and two lab reports, and he has a clicker quiz each class.
People are too hard on him and people also have to keep in mind that this is chemistry, and its going to be hard no matter what! I am not very good at chem whatsoever but if you work hard you will do well in the class. Definitely take Arman over other chem professors here. Tests aren't as hard as homework, so if you know the homework you'll be fine
Had him for both lab and lab lecture. You will have a quiz every lab lecture and have to complete all pre-lab assignments the Sunday before the lab. Be on time for lecture and lab or you won't be allowed in. Lab lecture quiz is based off of lab notebook and PP slides from last lecture and the current lecture so pay attention. Get to pick lab-mate.
Pay attention in class and study, if you can competently and reliably do these things you'll easily get a B in his class.
The rating for Dr. Arman is very deceiving. People judge too quickly because of his daily quizzes, but dont actually understand how helpful they actually are. It is essential to read and understand the material before he covers it in class to enhance the understanding of the topic. Dr Arman is a very sarcastic guy making class enjoyable, he's great
First off Im an A student here at UTSA with a GPA of 3.82. Professor Arman doesn't elaborate in most of his lectures. He also talks very low and his powerpoints have very little information. So be ready to read the textbook over the semester. Most of the time he expects us to know whats he is talking about after minimal teaching.
Had a quiz everyday with i-clickers and 60% of the quizzes were attendance. Usually he expects you to know the material so he will quiz you on something he hasn't talked about and then teach it after the quiz you just failed lol. I never understood his lectures and he can be very mean and rude. Though I've heard that if you talk to him he's nice.
Arman was not my favorite professor. His in class quizzes were very difficult and the assignments for each lab are very heavy. I got and A in the lab but I could barely pass his lab lecture quizzes. He has to give enormous curves because no one passes. The lab is fun but his lecture is awful.
Dr. Arman is honestly one of the best Chemistry professors for Chem 1103- it's a hard class but he does his job well and makes sure to prepare you for the ACS. He deserves a much higher rating in my opinion and it's not as difficult as everyone's saying to get an A.
I would avoid Arman as a first choice for a chemistry course. I only had him for a lab lecture and was legit intimidated by his rude attitude toward students coming in late. A friend had him for lecture and said exams were tough and he lacks in providing more examples of calculations for practice. He asks you questions on quizzes that are tedious.
His quiz actually help you if you actually pay attention to him. He explains all the math carefully and with lots of detail. It is just up to you if you are interest in chemistry or not. It is supposed to be hard. It is college not some high school chemistry class. Just do your work, you will pass with an A.
Hardest grader in chem dept. Very strict/stern man. However, all of arman's *good* students are generally more prepared for the ACS exam at the end of the semester. Just read/try to understand the new material BEFORE coming to class and you'll be prepared for the pop quiz. Attempt all HWs BEFORE he teaches the material and you will make an A.
Everyone who says his class is too hard just didn't try. I thought his class was particularly easy. He prepares you very well for the ACS and I had a smoother time than friends who took other profs. He's a little tougher in lab, but I would highly suggest him for the actual course.
Quizzes every single day. Doesn't lecture only gives a quiz over what you should have read before coming to class then reviews the quiz but doesn't usually show work just the correct answer. You will need to teach yourself and ask for help from the SI in order to understand this course.
Arman is hilarious, study ahead of class for i clicker quizzes. If you dont study you will fail! The tests are mostly from the online homework assignment which may be tedious to do but is good test practice. You have to study a lot on your own. Makes class a lot funny, although he can be rude and overly sarcastic at times
Very specific about how grading works. There is a daily quiz in class that ranges from 3-5 questions. These quizzes typically focus on the homework so I would recommend finishing assignments early. Additionally, finishing assignments on time leads to +5 points on the test for that unit. There are also in class reviews before tests. Great class!
You need to study and try for this guy! You need to read ahead, finish assignments early and read the notes he posts before the daily class quizzes! He will give you about 60% participation on each daily quiz just for being there. Do the learn smarts, they give extra credit for tests. If you study, go to SI sessions and time manage, you'll do fine!
Took quizzes every day based on stuff you were assigned to read the night before and these quizzes take up all of the class. sometimes we would get lucky and he'll ACTUALLY lecture. Don't take him if you plan to learn in his class. He's a nice and funny guy but you learn by reading the book outside of class.
He is a good professor! His grading are clear. There are daily quizzes but they really help you on the exams and finals. He is funny but mean sometimes. Tests are not hard. But you have to study for your grade. Especially, his teaching technique is students have to read for class. Quiz will over the lecture that go over on that day. I love his clas
If you are reading this, doesnt matter what they say about Sadeghi take Sadeghi, Arman is probably the worst CHE professor you can take.
This class requires work. Dr Arman expects us to read and be ready for his lecture. Yeah, hes bit of a jerk but I really feel like hes teaching is preparing me for my stem classes.
I wish that I could have taken a different professor for lab lecture but Arman is the only one who teaches it. There were quizzes done every class and they were always very difficult to pass. I worked hard for this class and only received a B. For a class that is worth only 1 credit, I believe that the grading and workload are ridiculous.
Arman is rude and sarcastic during lecture. He'll call out late students and/or turn them away at the door. Pre-labs will take several hours to do; my 1st one took 10. Ensure your write-ups are good, because a few weeks in, you're not allowed to use the lab manual in lab despite paying for it. Class sucks, but Arman is probably your only choice.
He has a sarcastic type of humor, and he can be nice sometimes. Unfortunately, he doesn't teach the class that well despite knowing what he's talking about. It's a struggle. You really have to rely on the book more than the class although his quizzes can be helpful. His tests are doable though compared to what I've heard of Sadeghi's tests.
The one thing I hate about Arman's classes are the in class quizzes that we had EVERY SINGLE class. Pretty sure without these I would have gotten a better grade. The good thing about them is that you have an idea of how his tests will be like. In order to do good in these quizzes you have to read ahead before every single class.
ARMAN IS OUR MAN!!! Okay so everyone hates on him b/c of the iclicker quizzes, but those barely affect your grade. Just read ahead a little before each class and you'll be fine. He's very forgiving with your grade (drops test and iclicker quizzes), but also prepares you for the ACS. If you have the chance to take him, consider yourself lucky.
The worst thing was the daily quizzes but I don't even think they take a big toll on your grade. The online labs are the worst it took me like 2 days just figure out how to do them and then a day to finish the entire thing. A lot of things lack instruction and lectures and quizzes sometimes don't correlate so it's all very confusing.
He gives you assignments but doesn't explain how to do them or what he is looking for, he also does not provide example papers or lab write-ups. Also for an attendance AND quiz grade he will do a i-clicker quiz at the end of class over the lecture. The quizzes are really specific math questions and are too hard for just learning the material.
not willing to help
Chemistry is a hard subject for many and due to their shortcomings, many students blame the prof. Dr. Arman will put out what you put into his class, so be ready to study and read ahead on the slides. Ask questions in class and seek his office hours if you're unsure of the information. He is super helpful, but only if you seek help.
I only had him once a week for 50 minutes for lab lectures and it was no doubt the worst and hardest 50 minutes of my whole week but he is the only one that teaches gen chem 1 lab lectures so good luck
He's a funny dude. I didn't have him in lecture, I have him in lab. You will take quizzes every day. He'll make you work for it, but you'll learn a lot!
You dont have many options when it comes to Gen Chem 2 at UTSA, but Arman really wasnt a great professor. Hes like the lesser of two evils. The class is unreasonably hard, he talks about stuff that isnt in the curriculum, and theres a super hard quiz every single day. Just try your best and read ahead.
I had Professor Arman for lab lecture, and he made the class extremely hard. Each class we had a quiz at the end of class, which I had to guess on almost every question even taking notes the whole class. He also explains the topic like you should already know, and when someone asked a question he would talk to them like theyre stupid.
Also, make sure not to be more than 5 minutes late to the final. Some students were late and he would not let them take the final.
Not bad if you know chemistry already or are ok with being stressed out all semester until you get extra credit at the last minute and barely pass. Prepare to answer everything perfectly or fail. Quizzes every other class. Terrible office hours. Rarely responds to emails in a timely manner. Save your GPA and tuition money and chose someone else.
Great professor for Chem I, took him my freshmen year expecting an easy class but was shook by the actual work I had to put in for an A. Reading the textbook ahead of the lecture is essential and doing the homework and extra practice problems. After a test, if you didn't do so hot take the initiative and go into his office hours and ask questions.
I took him for Gen Chem 1 lab lecture and there was a quiz for every class period about the previous lab and the lab within that week. Try to make it on time because if you're late he might call you out and kick you out. He wasn't very energetic when I took him but I heard his attitude is a lot better now. Always read your lab manual before class.
I had Arman in both Gen Chem I Lab and Lab Lecture, and I have to say, he is HILARIOUS. He truly is helpful if you need the help, but also tries to belittle you when you don't know the answer. His lab has SOOO much work to it, so be prepared. Each Lab lecture has a quiz, so just pay attention during class and remember the little things!
Honestly, Dr. Arman is pretty hilarious during his lectures, but is also very strict and a bit stern. The lab felt pretty heavy in terms of work, so be aware of the amount of time you will have to put into this course to do decent. Make sure to start off strong and TRY not to miss labs because that can severely impact your grade. Good luck.
Arman is very disorganized. Gives a lot of work with overlapping due dates and doesn't care how much time you have to spend on them. However, this class is an easy A if you do finish everything. You also have to attend classes and do well on the iclicker quizzes which comes from the lecture slides.
Very poor explanations during lecture regarding what we are doing in the lab the next week and quiz questions completely unrelated to lab lecture concepts. I think you have to take his course for Gen Chem lab 1, but if you can avoid it, try to. He belittles students and is short and snide with answering questions.
I couldn't tell you how much Arman knows about chemistry, but he sure doesn't know anything about respect or humility. I dropped his class a few days in! I saw this dude deny a girl help with her Iclicker during a quiz, he rudely told her, you should of asked me before! Broo its not like she knew her Iclicker would stop working!
If you are trying to decide between Arman and Sadeghi... Take Sadeghi. Arman is a cool guy but he like to throw Organic chem into all of his curriculum for Gen chem 2 just because he knows things about it. There is a quiz every class period about stuff he hasnt taught yet and there is homework after every class period.
Spent half of the class on daily iclicker quizzes and then the other half going over them, by the time were ready to actually teach were out of time. Had to self teach myself all semester since half of the classes this semester he would spend on the iclicker quizzes. Also moved hws and exam dates and never told us the new dates for the exams.
Tough Grader, memorize the power point slides BEFORE class if you wanna make it through his quizzes that he has after every class. difficult to get accessible outside of class and favorite thing to say is "Not my problem". Final had questions that I had never seen before and was not related to what we were told to study. Did not make sense.
Most of the class period was spent doing iClicker quizzes which was over content he hadn't taught. After these quizzes, there was only 20 minutes left of actual lecture. He assigned lots of work without concern about long it would take to complete it. His teaching skills were weak. He didn't seem to care about of his students and was rude.
Class was alright but just hard concepts to grasp
I had Dr. Arman for lab lecture and he did a good job of explaining what the future labs would consist of. He even did demonstrations for the more complex labs. As expected from the syllabus, he gave lots of iClicker quizzes. He did not explain concepts deep enough or explained them too fast, but overall, he's a good professor.
If you are not fluent in chemistry topics it will be hard and tutoring didn't help as much. I never used the textbook and I waited until the day before to finish 2 weeks worth of learnsmarts, quizzes, and homeworks. DONT BE LIKE ME!! Other than that he's a nice person and tries to help you understand.
Arman is honestly an average teacher. What everyone is complaining about is the DIFFICULTY of the subject matter. Chemistry is a hard subject to learn; so to pass, it is imperative you learn how to self study. You cannot rely heavily on Arman's lectures because it won't be enough to pass the tests without ample practice and studying on your end.
For lab, Arman isn't bad. He explains each lab pretty well and even has a quiz after each class to motivate you to pay attention to his lab lectures. Now, your experience in your lab and the difficulty of your lab depends on your TA, some TA's are more lenient than others. And STUDY STUDY STUDY for the final. It's NOT a joke.
Professor Arman is not such a bad choice for this course, but he does throws in a lot of OChem for this class just for the sake of it so personally, it threw me off. This course is naturally challenging, so read and practice.. I cannot stress this enough! Don't rely on lecture alone, I started off like that and that was my mistake for this class.
Dr. Arman is very different - he cracks a lot of sarcastic jokes & he's very serious - but he is extremely knowledgeable about chemistry. So, show up to his office hours!! He's very tough and doesn't care too much if you learn the material or not, but show up to class and LISTEN! The lectures help a ton in the lab. Do your work & you'll be good.
Unless you want to maintain a good gpa DON'T take this guy. I was in Gen Chem 1 and he was throwing organic chemistry questions that he never even explained how to solve. He puts questions that were never taught on exams. He isnt very good at teaching and unless you sit in the very front rows you won't be able to hear anything, he is super quiet.
This class is difficult and Dr. Arman's style of teaching is challenging. He is knowledgeable but his questions are not easy. These questions require preparing for the class ahead of time. Make sure you email him or go to his office hours if you have any questions. You will get a good grade if you put in the effort. Good luck!
Arman is like any other teacher, it's just chemistry is always difficult. Master your studying skills and you should be fine. If you work for that A, he will give you that A.
I took the lab and chem2 with him. Lectures are quality and he works hard to help you learn and prepare you for ochem. Great for premeds as it's very easy to make an A if you put in the work and you get a solid ochem foundation. People like to whine about him bc it's not a free A, but the reality is he is a great professor. Tests are easy too.
Dr. Arman is the worst professor I have had so far. IF he or his TA responded to emails, most of the responses were unhelpful and too late. His quizzes always had things he hadn't taught and were almost always short answer. His lectures are dry at best and he makes a lot of mistakes. Choose someone else, anyone else!
The post lab assignments were a struggle. Arman never gave clear instructions on how to do the post labs, and you'd usually have to guess how to do everything by yourself. Almost everyone in the class was confused oh how to complete the labs, and neither Arman or his TAs were any help. Yeah, I'm aware chemistry is tough, but Arman makes it tougher.
Absolutely one of the worst professors I have ever taken. Given this is in the middle of a pandemic and we are all adjusting but omg.. only taught us O-Chem and not General Chemistry. Not to mention half way through the semester he just decided to stop teaching us. Prepare to to teach yourself.
Chemistry itself is a hard subject, but having Arman as a professor made the learning experience much more difficult. The only thing that got me through this class was the TA and a LOT of self studying. Don't expect to recieve any resourceful aid from this professor in the slightest.
Throws in O-Chem, difficult tests which do not cover textbook material, and unreasonable work load
you only have to show up 3 times for attendance and that's it, his lectures sometimes don't match up with the homework so it SUCKS, you really REALLY do have to teach yourself, he's not bad but yeah .. he is sadly and homework is due on Saturdays at 11 weirdly, if you're good at chem, good for you and if you're not, I'm sorry- I had somewhat help
Dr. Arman's class is hard because he expects you to know a lot of information you have not been taught yet, either from weeks ahead of the chem lecture course or higher-level classes. His vague instructions leave you with a bad grade a lot. He doesn't let you see right and wrong answers so you never figure out which topics you don't fully understan
Do not take Arman. Gave too much work for a 1 credit hr class and never gave clear instructions. It was almost as if he wanted his students to fail. Didn't learn anything from his lectures and he made us download this computer thing called vlab that we literally only used once. You would think he would be more lenient with the pandemic but nope.
Try your best to avoid Arman Hadi at ALL costs. He does not care about his students or his class. He barely responds to emails, if any. He expects you to have knowledge from higher-level classes that we have clearly not taken. His material does not match up with his assignments and he will not work with you. You WILL have to teach yourself.
Professor Arman is an alright professor, I took this lab online and it wasn't too terrible. Some post-lab assignments were difficult, and others weren't too bad.
Professor Arman is one of those teachers they warn you about. The one who brags about how hard class his class is. He gives an insane amount of work and adds more assignment systems whenever he so feels. If you want to take Arman, he will lecture to the best of his abilities. But you better have a small course load. Take at your own risk.
It got to the point where my classmates were gonna reporting him to the head bc the work load was too much just to find out he was the head of the department! You have video HW b4 every lecture & quizzes Friday nights, 200 topics of aleks due by the end of the semester, learn smarts & labs, I wish I could create a list, running out of characters
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! lectures are BORING and long. he does not care about students and is not helpful. only replies to emails when he wants to with 1 or 2 sentence replies. his quizzes and post lab assignments are long and is meant for you to fail. every question is worth so much points, get 2 wrong and you fail. worst professor ever.
There are very many assignments for each lab. I personally liked the online labs; they were kind of fun. The post-lab assignments can be quite difficult, and the only exam in the class is the final, which is also quite tough. He's not horrible, and an A is possible, you just have to work hard for it.
THE WORST PROF I'VE HAD! Don't take him! Doesn't teach well, boring, unnecessarily long lectures, and IGNORANT! He only responds to emails when he feels like it. Lazy! IDK how he's still employed!
Honestly this class will be hard bc he gives a lot of work, but I feel like you actually learn chem because he gives lots of resources/practice problems, and his lectures and practice tests are sufficient to get As on the tests as long as you understand them. Don't be scared bc of the other reviews! As long as you put in the effort you'll be fine!
Where do I begin? I took his Chem 1 Lab. It's 1 credit hour. Why the heck do I end up with 4 assignments a week? Like dude... It ended up being much more difficult than it should have been. Do your GPA a favor, and take a different prof.
The worst professor Ive ever had.. thats it.
TERRIBLE professor, avoid at all costs! 1. Impossible to contact. Expect 5-never days for a response 2. Unnecessary & uncomfortable assignments. Have to take selfies & send pictures of your house for "chemistry" 3. Takes months to put in grades & doesn't show what's wrong 4. Typos everywhere so you don't know when hw, tests, & even the final is due
This class is like being given a 1000 piece puzzle and an instruction manual. The professor gives you all the tools to succeed but makes it as difficult as possible to piece them together. Daily quizzes on material not yet taught. No aid in learning material, just DIY homework assignments. A teacher needs to teach, not constantly reveal deficits.
Professor Arman is teacher who clearly likes the subject that he teaches. However, he is not a good teacher. Overall, does not care about students or their grades. The course has more homework and assignments than necessary and do not help prepare for tests. He does not follow the syllabus and is not flexible if you need help. Do not recommend.
This class requires ALOT of work. He actually knows a lot of the subject, but definitely gives way too much work. This class isn't impossible but he doesn't consider the other classes we have. His video lecture is like sitting through a bad sitcom that has questions.
Probably the worst professor Ive had. This class was beyond difficult and the way he teaches makes any subject a chore. There was way too many tedious assignments and the constant quizzes just stresses everyone out. Horrible class and a horrible way to learn about chemistry.
Dr. Arman did an average job of teaching the course material. Nothing really made me think that his teaching was above average. Lectures were not too long but the structure of the assignments did leave me confused. Coursework was not too bad but did require you to think about how to write a lab report. Overall, I rate him as average.
It's clear that Dr. Arman is a very intelligent man who knows a lot about his field of study. HOWEVER, he is probably the worst professor I've ever had. He's extremely hard to get a hold of, and his style of teaching leaves you feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, the quizzes at the start of class are ruthless. My advice: pick another professor ASAP.
Awful teacher he does not care about students nor he likes to teach. He will exhausted you with tons of homework.
Though Arman is a very knowledgable professor, this class (more specifically the amount of work), ruins that real first-year college experience for many students. I understand that we are no longer in high school, but having 6-7 assignments due every week is taxing for many to the put where things are just extremely confusing. Take someone else!
By far, one of the worst professors i have ever had. He assigns homework as if his class is the only one we are taking. I spend every single day of the week trying to get the work of his class done and still receive low grades. Only take him If you plan on ruining your GPA and mental health because that literally how it is.
I took 8 classes this semester and this was the hardest. I had Dr. Arman for Gen Chem I Lab and Gen Chem I Lab Lecture. This class can easily ruin your GPA if you don't study enough. If you plan to take Dr.Arman GO TO LECTURES and read the powerpoint slides and other material. Good luck to future students who will take this class.
Do not do it. DO NOT. I only had him for the lab and cannot imagine ever taking him again. He seems nice but gives you 15hours of work every week to do. Quizzes during every class. the WORST part is some of your assignments you have to use a website that crashes 100% of the time so no one ever ends up doing it. Dont do it. do not. its not worth it.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he wouldn't be THAT bad. No, he was actually worse than "bad". If you have no life and enjoy doing 15 hours worth of homework a week then sign up! The 1-2 hour playposits twice a week was actually a nightmare. Nothing personal against him. I just can't believe he thinks we are superhuman.
For this class being only one credit hour, it felt like a lot more work than my four credit hour classes. There is so much work every week for this class, it makes you rethink your major. Every class there is quiz so be ready for that every week and two finals at the end of the semester. Arman is a very nice professor.
He seems very rude at first, but he is just kind of rash. Kind of annoying that we would give us mandatory lectures to watch before class, then during class he would just regurgitate what he said in the online lecture, but it gave me time to do hw. He gave 1-2 homework assignments a week with 3 unit exams overall.
Want an A? Read this. The first 2 exams are hard if you aren't going 110% in this class. Even if you fail them, the last 2 exams will boost your grade significantly. Too many people dropped for fear of failure and it's designed to scare you. The pop quizzes, video assignments, and hw matter. Do them, try and you will get an A. He's really not bad.
Arman assigned way too much work for this class especially considering it is only worth an hour of credit. And I got an A too so I'm not just bitterly complaining. No joke, it was more work than my 4-hour Calc II class, and it wasn't even close. All to teach concepts that we could have taught ourselves better
Dr. Arman gives ridiculous amounts of work for a 1 credit class. He does not care about his students. There were mandatory play-posit videos for 1hr every week plus quizzes, data sheets, etc. This class consumed my semester and I had to focus on it the most. I was only able to survive this class bc of TA office hours. DO NOT TAKE
Would make mistakes in either lectures or exams themselves, not a very quick response time and not much self responsibility when errors occur
Chemistry is HARD. Whether Dr. Arman is teaching it or not. But he prepares you for the kind of commitment you need to succeed in the future. Read the syllabus and study everyday. There was nothing more gratifying than seeing your hard work pay off during exams. Also, don't be afraid to study in groups.
Arman = useless. Stuck in the old ways of teaching, Expects you to memorize the little details of things that are easily found with a little research if ever forgotten Rude. Gives enough HW that surpasses all your other classes combined. Some questions on test weren't gone over in class, nor mentioned we should know. Did I mention he is rude? Avoid
Video lectures that are required before the class, and then quizzed on that material. Questions in lecture video are asked before material is covered. Exam questions are filled with little tricks that deviate from material covered in class, and never discussed in class. Exams will not be reviewed, thus you don't know what you got wrong to improve.
Get something wrong on the test? You won't know. He NEVER gives you the tests back or goes over the exams. The grade you get, you settle for. He could blindly pick a number 1-100 and give you that score and you won't be able to know if that truly is your score or randomly picked! Useless class that UTSA requires students to take for extra $$$.
I hated his regular Gen Chem I class more than the lab lecture. If I were to take both at the same time then I wouldn't have passed either one. Take them separately and you will pass... just barely though.
It is easy to be overwhelmed by his class. His teaching style is different; Lectures at home, and quizzes in class. Although homework piles up more than you could imagine, his teaching is effective and he's always there for his students. I even began to look forward to his class and the humor he adds to his lecture. 10/10 would take again :)
I can see why he's an assistant professor rather than a full professor. Possibly as a result of his Ph.D. elevating his brain a little too far in this environment. Although though it is only a Chemistry I course, it makes you feel like you are enrolling in a lab to become a true scientist. Horrible. So many many unnecessary works and CAN'T TEACH.
This guy is a horrible example of what an instructor should be. He overloads students with unrealistic assignments and does not give proper feedback with grading. Taking this course with the lecture is not a good idea if you care heavily about your GPA. He never truly explains the concepts and is downright condescending. Save your time and money.
This man is pompous and arrogant. He loves hearing himself talk even though he speaks at .5 speed. Don't take his course you will hate your life. He will not answer your questions, he expects you to know organic chem in genchem. I did well because I gave up time with friends, family, and my mental health. Do yourself a favor; take it somewhere else
If you want to save your GPA take chem at community college or any other university. It is not worth the mental strain, he is the lab coordinator and makes your life hell for no reason. With 3 exams and 2 lab reports all in the same chemistry class due in 1 week. I am not sure how he still has a job here, he is an awful professor.
Cannot stress how much I don't like Professor Arman. His teaching style is so old fashioned. So obvious he doesn't even like teaching. Lousy professor. Makes his classes harder than they need to be and the material need to be updated.
This class with this professor is hard just because he makes it that way. DO NOT take him if you want to keep your GPA, or even if you don't want one single class to take up all your time. IF YOU TAKE HIM: always read twice what the question asks, don't skip a lab lecture, pay attention cause all of the class time is useful, and good luck.
Attendance graded, lots of hw but it's all purposeful & to ensure success. Lectures clear, only covered what's relevant. Tests very much resembled the quizzes, hw & lecture material. Biggest complaint is getting quizzed on videos before covering material IN class. Opportunity for xtra credit. Helpful during office hours.
This teacher's method demands effort; pre-lecture videos are vital for iClicker quizzes. Detailed content aids concept understanding; iclicker quizzes enforce study. Lectures, though heavy, offer practice problems and rules to understand chem. Success need outside effort. Quizzes/tests reflect videos. you need to put work into this class
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!! he does not care about his students, leaves you feeling extremely overwhelmed. clearly doesnt care about his students, need to look up youtube videos for actual explainations. Dont waste your mental health on this class its not worth it.
One of the worst professors i've ever had. I got a 5 on the chem AP exam but having to retake this course for prerequisites was my worst mistake ever. He never shows your final grades, he has extremely hard lessons compared to the class level and the labs do not even make sense with the amount of work required. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS
run. avoid him. just dont do it.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR LIKE THE PLAGUE!! Arman clearly doesn't care about his students so much so his "teaching" philosophy is that not everyone should pass. He grades EVERYTHING from iClickers, 2 hour-long pre-lab videos, data sheets, and impossible post-lab quizzes. I wouldn't be surprised if he started grading your breathing. Don't take Dr. Arman.
I have never been afraid of failing a course, until I took him. The reason he gets two stars is because some of his pre-labs were useful, but the post labs did not match the course content and every week there was a quiz taken with the I-Clicker which is for a grade.
Dr. Arman is an amazing General Chemistry I professor. He really does care about his students and recognizes hard work. He expects us to practice chemistry daily using ALEKS and gives extra credit on each test when you do the work between each test period. There are quizzes every class based on the video/take-home assignments.
This professor assigns a LOT of work and is very intimidating. Overall very difficult and shows little compassion for students. Avoid if possible.
doesn't teach you anything during the lectures every class is just a pop quiz and your expected to just know everything and have every possible conversion factor or combination or any elements in the universe memorized and if u complain about how your supposed to know something he just says "you should have this memorized like I'm the prof or sum
Beware of low ratings for people who were weeded out of chemistry because they cannot study. He does post homework (video lectures with attached questions/mc/short answer), but they helped me learn concepts without once actually reading the textbook and taking notes. He has opportunities for extra credit for each exam.
Dr. Arman runs the chemistry department & I am very disappointed. His prelab videos were helpful in the lab, I cant say much positive about anything else. There is no consistency w/ grades, especially being changed after they had already been graded for months, and post labs do not match content. Good weed out, bad as a learning environment.
Really frustrating professor. He made an already difficult course even harder. Doesn't allow you to look at notes for i-Clicker questions, will yell if he sees you do that. Doesn't take accountability for his own actions and places the blame on students if an assignment hasn't been opened by him, despite emailing him a bunch. Avoid taking him.
I would rather get paper cuts on the webs between my fingers than take his class again. Tons of busywork - apparently the work he gives out is 4x the work that other professors give. This class is more of a weedout class than my actual Gen Chem class - and this is only worth one credit! He acts condescending towards his students, too.
lecture is mandatory with iclicker. questions are hard even when present, grade can still be low. post lab videos are easy, but make less than 60, you CAN'T attend the lab- automatic ZERO on your lab sheet and post lab assignments. post lab writing assignments that have to be long and if you don't fully understand the concept - well, good luck.
personally I had more of an issue with the course then dr. arman himself. i think dr. arman is actually nice in my own experience but i would rather pull my eyelashes out then take this course again. for a one credit course, it made me have a midlife crisis.
Him being the head of the chemistry department is the only reason you should take him. SO MUCH HW for a single credit. expects you to fail and makes curves his grading instead of teaching better or making his exams easier. final practical averages a 50 among his students. Unclear grading guidelines for writing assignments. AVOID
worst professor I have ever had, very unprofessional when it comes to grading, does not provide specific feedback and grades harshly for wrting assignments.
Loves chemistry but hates teaching? In 1131 there is a quiz in every class, so learn the content before the lecture. He is usually rude and he knows his reputation. It's not that he's a bad professor he just doesn't care about you or your personal problems and makes his mistakes the classes fault.
I would rather get paper cuts and juice lemons than ever take this class again. It is SO MUCH WORK for one-credit hour. The TAs for the lab are nice for the most part but they GRADE SO HARD and it's not their fault it's Arman's. The class average for our writing assignment was 20. And no matter which instructor you take, he controls everything.
He doesn't like teaching, its very evident. He loves chemistry though but that doesn't matter if you don't like students. Very rude, not understanding of anything or people. Won't do anything unless you cc the dean of chemistry in an email, and acts like students are robots and not human. Would never ever take a class of his on purpose.
Arman is a grumpy old man but gives you all the tools to succeed. It's up to you and your discipline, consistency, and willingness to A) do the homework on time and B) use practice resources. Review past iclicker q's in the minutes before class!! Exam preparation will be easy if you put effort into HW/quizzes. Don't let bitter reviews scare you.
HORRIBLE, DO NOT TAKE. the worst, rudest professor i have ever had literally avoid him at all costs possible, even the staff do not like him
Dr. Arman is the reason I didn't drop out of college. His teaching is filled with energy and the impact is shown through improvement in my grades and in my understanding in Chemistry. His class is the first class where I felt the professor cared about me and my outcome in the class and in life.
Arman was one of my least favorite professors this semester. Goes through lab lecture material pretty quickly and then quizzes us at the end where we're not allowed to look through notes. He'll yell if he sees you do that. Also doesn't take accountability for his own mistakes and will blame the class for his mistakes.
This class is a real weedout - tons of busywork and inconsistent grading. Staying on top of the pre-lab videos and using unstuckstudy ai for study prep were the only ways I survived. Overall, avoid if possible.
Quizzes every day. Not a single lecture was done in class time. Teach yourself the day before class or you're screwed. Hated it.
it is flipped classroom so you learn at home and go and take in class quizzes every day. Honestly he is really strict but if you go to his office hours he is really helpful. In class hes tough but one on one hes really kind and willing to help if u just ask
Arman Hadi is the grand orchestrator of Chemmisery 101. Imagine paying good money to endure an hour of iClicker Hell, sinking into despair, being jolted back by soul-crushing quizzes meant to obliterate confidence. My 4.0 GPA, now disintegrating into oblivion. This class will test your endurance, sanity, and will to live. Save yourself—just run.
Horrible professor who obviously doesn't care about his students; all he does is yell at us and give indirect "answers" to questions. Ridiculous amount of challenging classwork for GENERAL chemistry ONE. Not only is he a tough grader, he's straight up inconsistent with grading and doesn't provide feedback in time for the next assignment due. -11/10
If you love ALEKS and already have an understanding of chemistry concepts take this class. If not, just don't. Trust me.
Weekly misery: watch hour-long lectures, take notes, show up to class for a quiz, not be allowed to use the notes you took the day before, recall all the info you learned less than 24 hours ago, cry about your score, then start teaching yourself. The course is formatted to make students feel hopeless, where you either teach yourself or drown, gl.
As this class is required for most health profession majors, most kids are subjected to take it. At all cost do not choose him as your professor, there are a few other options. Each lecture was a quiz, not one did we go over material. To teach you he assigns post it videos that are from 4 years ago, not in class learning. ALEKS is mandatory , 24:7
There was a lot of homework in this class. However, if you keep up with all of it, there is not a lot of room for faliure. He curves things greatly, so if you get a 70 something in this class, you will end up with a B. Reviews and homework are exaclty like the exams. He dosen't teach, only quizzes (which are a grade), but he answers questions.
Do not take these reviews as a challenge to take his course. In the end, it is not worth it. His grading criteria is not clear enough and it gets exhausting trying to keep up with everything he assigns. You'll have to dedicate large amounts of time to stay on top of the work in this course-- not even to ace this course, just to not fall behind.
Spent hours & hours on homework every week. His class is set up to where you have to listen to his 1-2 hour lecture online before every class then go to class and get quizzed the whole class which he used as the attendance grade for the day there is still whole weekly homework assignments AND aleks to complete. He is also passive aggressive.
I loved having Dr. Arman as my professor. He definitely has lots of homework, and you have to do it at home, but it was helpful, and the review tests he would give out were similar to the exam we would get. He was nice outside of class during his office hours and was helpful.
This man is the worst professor I've ever encountered in my life. I literally freeze from PTSD whenever I see him in the BSE. I'll just be sitting there eating my bagel and he walks past with his pain-inducing aura. He gives instructions for lab reports and then takes points off if you didn't include something that he DIDN'T ASK FOR. Save yourself.
Does not teach. Entire lesson involves watching a prerecorded video, at home, before class, to then simply be quizzed over said video during the entire 1 hour in-person lecture period. Zero actual lecture. His "teaching" involves made-up elements, hastily prescribbled notes with typos and a circled answer to the problem. Good luck figuring out why.
I can get past his assingments
His assignments are doable but it's just him as a person that will have you stressed. He gets angry if you walk in late and he's super nit picky about everything. He doesn't teach and he's never around to help so if you're looking for a good professor don't take him. He doesn't care and will not help you if you need it!
Very rude. Doesn't care about students at all. SO much work for a 1 hour lab. Take anyone else.
Not remorseful about anything. I missed one small pre lab video because I broke my leg and got an automatic 0 for 3 other major assignments because of that one missed assignment. He would not let me make up that unnecessary pre lab video assignment under no circumstance. Don't take him even my Gen Chem 1 professor hates him.
He is the worst professor I have ever met. Do NOT TAKE HIM. I never took him tbh but he makes the exams for gen chem 1. HORRIBLE he wants us to fail he IS NOT UNDERSTANDING! No matter how hard you study YOU WILL FAIL. Gen chem will be your entire life for the semester so be prepared for no social life at all.
Just don't.
The professor does not teach during class. He uses lecture time to quiz students and requires students to watch year old videos where he explains the topic with very little effort. You cannot simply learn the topics on your own and attend class, the class and the videos are mandatory. The vast majority of the class failed before the final exam.
do not take him
Used class time to give quizzes and cold-called students to answer questions.
I was one of the few students who did decent in his class, and I only say this so y'all don't think i'm just bitter about my grade. BRO SUCKS. He never really seems to think he's the problem when scores are so low. attendance is absolutely a must if you want to pass, good luck to anyone who takes him
I just recommend to not take him
I've never taken a course where the professor was this disrespectful towards his own students. It almost feels like he enjoys his students suffering. Only tells you how assignments should be done half way through the semester. Don't bother asking him questions he'll respond as if you're a child. Don't take him.
I asked him a question after class since he never responded to my email, and he acted like I personally cut funding for male pattern baldness. It's the middle of the semester, we've already turned in two writing assignments, and we just went over expectations. Still no grades. Choose a professor who will respect you.
He isn't understanding of having struggles with chemistry and uses class time to do quizzes and you are expected to learn material on your own outside of class
Take him if you already know all the contents well and just gonna waste some money to have the credits. Even though, everywhere it is stated to be a "traditional in-person" class, but it isn't. You just have to watch his youtube videos and answer a lot of quizzes EVERY CLASS.
Weed out class, just dont take him. Fair concepts, ridiculously hard professor, over complicates everything
Great Professor writing this in front of him in class that's how chill he is 😎. Everyone who rates him a 1 is either stupid or are mad bc they got weeded out L bozo!!! Ez class
Lot of work but ez
mucho good
People giving him 1's bc they got weeded out, imagine.
People are really complaining abt him talking abt how hard he is. Like bro, the only reason u say he's hard is bc u got weeded out, imagine. But if u do your work and pay attention in college (college in a nutshell), you'll be good. Sure, you have to do stuff outside of class, and tests can be hard, but bro that's literally college.
Every morning I wake up, I wished I had passed away in my sleep so I wouldn't have to walk to this professor's class. Awful lot of homework, doesn't teach and gives quizzes during class instead, generally isn't helpful or kind either.
Designs questions with the intent of "tricking" the student, almost exclusively using exceptions-to-the-rule or exceptions to the exception. Assigns a ridiculous amount of homework, that isn't even necessarily difficult, just extremely time consuming. All learning is done outside of class, and classes are just daily quizzes. Yells at students.
He's alright just do your work and you'll be fine. Istg people forget that college is supposted to be similar to how this man teaches and runs his class. Like as long as you do your work and don't slack you'll be good. For example, I though I was going to get a C bc of how people described him in reviews. but have a A rn like bro just do the work.
I'd say the teaching style was cool if you don't like lectures all the time but this class was not fun at all. Although you will pass if you do your ALEKS daily. The TA's are also inconsistent so was a little annoying hearing "uhh IDK" from the person that is supposed to help.Uses made up elements, daily quizzes, and long videos due before class.
He can be mean but overall he is a good teacher. He has good TAs and reviews that help ALOT on tests. I'd recommend him over other teachers since he makes the test nd you will know what to expect.
He's not as bad as people say he is, if you're in gen chem 1 with him you have to pay $40 for a i - clicker. Overall if you just study consistently in the class you'll make an A. Try to do well on the foundation exam as it's what drops peoples grades the most. I'd reccommend taking him because he makes the exams and you get better practice for it.
If you are taking Dr. Arman, you will need an iClicker remote and ALEKS every day. Dr. Arman is a genuinely cool guy. The thing that throws most students off is his teaching methods: Study at home and work in class. While his exams are pretty hard, his video lectures are very slow-paced, so be prepared for a lot of self-studying and homework.
I respect him for his contributions to research on campus, but as a professor he was not good. The hour-long videos took up so much time from my other courses. The tests took up so much of the overall grade; you get ONE bad test, say goodbye to that A. He's also nearly-impossible to contact outside of class. Please drop.
