He is the best teacher so far in the whole math department. Very humble and helpful. Take this professor for sure.
He gives variations of review problems and class problems as a reflection of exam. Do all the hw, and those and you'll do fine. seemed to skipp a lot of the important chapters but hey its a summer class so cant complain. when you dont get a concept dont be afraid to stop him, he really breaks things down for you step by step.
Amazing professor! Taking this over the summer was super intense, but he made the course work extremely bearable. He prepares you for the exams by providing a sample review and review session done in class. And he's not condescending when you ask for clarification on any problem. I highly recommend him!
Hid quizes inckude material that is covered in later chapters. When other students bring it up he says he covered it and gave plently of examples. Very defensive and hard headed. Does not back down and say okay, we didn't cover whatever test question asked about. He just reads copies of the text book in front of the class. Not recommended to anyone
He is a great teacher. Took him over the summer, and he really wants you to succeed, but he is all about making sure you understand the course material. Do his homework. My favorite part was his lecture examples. Most teachers start off with super easy examples. He cuts right to a moderate example and it escalates in difficulty. Take his class!
Herichi is a straight-lecture professor. He doesn't ask the class any questions and doesn't do any sort of class discussion. He teaches, you do the homework, and he gives the exam. One nice thing about Herichi is his love of postponing exams, giving students extra time to study. Notes can be a little messy, but they're thorough.
Professor Herichi is one of the most caring teachers I've ever had. every time i would have an issue he would help me out greatly. a lot of students take advantage of him and get mad because they didn't get a good grade on the previous test but if you just ask him and show him that you care he will invest time into you and show you how to get an A
His lectures are SUPER helpful with the tests. He also gives out practice tests that are prepares you VERY well for the actual tests. His homework is fairly easy. Just follow his directions and you will for sure get an A. HE IS THE BEST MATH TEACHER!!!!! I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN.
Let me start off by saying that he changed my views toward the subject math! He is by far the best math professor I have taken and I have been lectured by professors at UC's and he surpasses all of them. JUST TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!! Just do the homework's and study the study guide he gives you and you will ace the class.
HE IS NOT ONLY AN AMAZING PROFESSOR, HE IS THE MOST GENUINE PERSON EVER!! HIS CLASS IS SOOOOOO EASY! SERIOUSLY... JUST DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND STUDY THE NOTES. HE POSTPONES TESTS, GIVE YOU PRACTICE EXAMS THAT ARE ALMOST IDENTICAL TO HIS TESTS!
Amazing professor. He is patient and humble. He prepares for u and he always respects students. I love him. Just study and follow him. He is really really helpful and respectful.
On thing that stood out to me about this Professor is his humbleness. He always makes sure his students understand what he is teaching and provides excellent examples. His lectures can get a bit boring, but overall his lecture are interesting. His class is pretty easy as long as you do the homework, lab hours, and pass a few tests. Take him.
The best teacher ever. He is recommended for any math class. Very clear and straightforward. Work for your class and you will get an A.
Took him in the winter. He gives you a chance to get an A in difficult classes. He doesn't try to trick you on tests or anything and he prepares everyone for the exams. His exams are as hard as the material study a lot and do all the homework he assigns and go over your notes carefully and you'll have no reason to not get atleast a B in his class.
i am currently taking him for multivariate calculus. He is my best professor at SMC so far. he is there for you, and will help you as much as he can. he is clear about the material. if you do your job, you can easily get an A. beside being an instructor i learned a lot from him.
He literally gives you exam questions in lectures. And people circulate his test.
he is there for you; just ask him any question and he will answer you. the subject is not easy but he makes it easy for you to get an A. there are 4 midterms and a final. gives extra credit on his exams. best math instructor at SMC.
At SMC it can be difficult to navigate the mathematics department. Politics and longevity are favored over student outcome and clear teaching. When it comes to Math 11 and Math 15, why take any other Professor? Professor Herichi cares, gives up his time to work with the class, is passionate, and fair in grading. He isn't "easy", but very fair.
His lectures are very detailed and well explained. Although the class was given on a very fast pace (winter session), I felt that professor Herichi dedicated a lot of his time to make us learn the material. Read his lectures and practice a lot, and you will be earning an A in his class !!
Best math professor I've ever had! Took calc 2, calc 3, and differential equations with him. Extremely fair and goes out of his way to help his students.
Pretty cool teacher, helps you a lot when you don't understand a problem. He would make 2-3 more problems like the same .
Professor Herichi is the best teacher I've ever met in SMC. His lectures are very clear, and would be there for you if you have questions. Very friendly and humble teacher. But if you skip his class frequently, you won't be able to get an easy A. I'm telling you, Prof. Herichi is the best Math teacher in SMC!
Best professor I've ever had. can't say more
Professor Herichi is one who challenges his students. It was easy for me to follow along while he spoke in his lectures b/c he repeats everything so writing things down as he would talk is key to not fall behind. Not much homework. Extra Credit was offered. Easy to get along with. Very respectful.
I had him for math 11 (calc3). he is a great professor; helps you as much as he can inside and outside of class. if you study for the tests, they are easy. do the homework he assigns and goes through the lecture notes, your A is guaranteed.
Best. Class. Ever. Herichi seriously cares for his students, and actually WANTS you to pass. Seriously. Not too much homework, 30 minutes a night. Textbooks aren't cheap, I suggest going to the store across the street and renting them for half the price. Hoping I get him for spring!
Goes fast on lectures but he can slow down when people are catching up. He is also organized with his lectures. His office hours are helpful if you don't understand concepts. Exams are fair and he encourages his students not to give up.
Good teacher! Easy B, and a very attainable A, make sure you do your homework and study guides. He is a little slow at grading, and a slow lecturer but I think he said he'll go at a faster pace the next time around.
Amazing Teacher! He is funny, smart, and cares about the material he is teaching.
This is an amazing Teacher! He is funny, smart, and cares about the material he is teaching.
By far the best math professor I have ever had. He is really nice and super understanding. He's an easy and fair grader. He answers questions extremely clearly and his lectures are easy to follow. He never takes attendance but I would recommend going to class regardless because he does go over a lot.
His tests seem difficult, but he is an insanely easy grader.
Herichi is honestly the best math professor I have had at SMC so far! He genuinely cares about his students understanding the material and not falling behind. As long as you show up to class, keep up with the hw and study ,you will do great !
All you have to do is review class notes and exam study guide sheets he gives out. Don't miss class he goes over a lot.
By far the best math professor I've taken on campus. Very organized, and takes his time teaching material. Cares for the learning outcome of his students.
Professor Herichi is probably the best math teacher I have ever had. His lectures are very clear. As long as you do his homework and the study guides, the class should be pretty straightforward. He also offered Friday study sessions which were very helpful.
Cool professor, interesting class, you will learn a lot.
Professor Herichi is THE BEST professor I have ever had. His lectures are very organized, clear and very well explained. He always encouraging and willing to help. I took Math 8 over summer and then Math 15 with him. And learned A LOT! He also provides workshop on Fridays to go over the lecture material by examples which were extremely helpful to me
Skips whole chapters and you wont learn much from his classes. But he gives away exam questions and he is a very easy grader, so taking his class will boost your Gpa. Thats all the matters after all.
I have learned a lot from Prof. Herichis class. He gives very detailed lectures and provides good examples. He also gave weekly workshops which I appreciated a lot through the semester. He is very challenging but fair, I had to study very hard to get an A in his class !!
Professor Herichi is undoubtedly of the most down-to-earth, genuine people I have ever met. He really cares about his students and is very helpful in his office hours if you did not understand something from his lectures. Exams are very fair and based off of the studyguides he provides and problems from notes. Overall, great choice for a professor!
I love him! In this semester I enrolled in Prof. Herichi's Math 11 and 13 . He will use many examples to familiarize students with a point of knowledge. Exam questions can usually be found in example questions and practice problems he give before every midterm. In short, study hard and you will get an A.
Pretty generous with his grading. His lectures were a bit boring for me so I self-studied a lot. Solid choice
Prof. Herichi is one of the best teachers to me in SMC. He really cares about his students and is also very fair. For the grades, if you really work hard and know how to do the problems in your notes and homework, you will do well in his class.
He's super caring and really helpful. He just wants the class to succeed. I had him during the COVID transition and he was just so understanding through the whole thing. Attendance isn't mandatory but he doesn't record his lectures. All of the tests on MyMathLab come directly from the online homework. sweet guy, great teacher.
SMC's best math professor. Wants students to understand the material and succeed. Very clear & organized notes. Extra math labs outside of class. Very eager to help. Tough but fair. Truly loves math and is passionate about it. Hmwk 10%. Gave extra credit on tests, but I'm not sure if that was just because covid19 disrupted class mid-semester.
Agree with other commenters. I'm glad I chose this professor, especially for distance learning. He is very passionate about math and this helps make his lectures more bearable. Gets very excited about showing you proofs, even if that's not part of the class. He really wants students to understand the "WHY" of things. Gives extra credit after exams.
Do not kid yourself, trig is HARD and Herichi doesn't treat it w/kid's gloves either. If you're coming into his class you must know your foundations. He's a theorem heavy teacher meaning you'll work most examples out yourself. He writes super fast: think 4 whiteboards of info in 5-min pace for the whole class. EXTREMELY fair grader w/extra credit.
Great teacher he wants you to succeed, but lectures are extremely fast, only writes in black ink & he doesnt explain anything unless you stop him. Erases the board before you can even start writing notes. He gives extra credit after tests & he doesnt use proctorio which is nice. Hes a great guy but isnt for you unless you know the math already.
He really is one of the best math professors at SMC. He doesnt use Proctorior, which is nice and besides that, Professor Herichi is a great professor who really wants you to succeed. The class is definitely fast paced but regardless, he explains everything very well. Math 2 can be a lot but Professor Herichi made it a smooth experience. Take him!
If you take Prof. Herich, you will have an easy A. His class is so easy and filled with extra credit. Tests are just the same questions and approaches but with different numbers. He is awesome!
He is an excellent professor, a great lecturer and caring about students. I took his class online last semester and had to work very hard to earn an A, be careful he is not easy ! His lectures are amazing and I found him very helpful during his office hours and weekly workshops.
Herichi is a good professor who is willing to help his students in any at that he can. His lecture style is decent (a lot of notes, very fast, and proof heavy). He holds a lot of OH and workshop so thats neat. Not a bad choice but could be better.
Great professor but be prepared to apply yourself. Not too hard on grading, sometimes very fast-paced lectures, has a research book on fractals.
These reviews are misleading. One of the worst professors I've ever had. Takes off too many points on exams for small details missed. Is very unorganized. Takes too long to post study guide and study guide answers. Was behind all semester so he started cramming lessons in at the end. Lectures are unclear. Too much proofs. Avoid if possible.
Prof. Herichi is a very kind person towards students. Lectures can be very confusing. Study guides were posted late. Exams worth almost everything and he grades them tough. There are SO many proofs and difficult problems on exams and hw so it was a big adjustment. By the end of semester we were behind so he began cramming lectures the last 2 weeks.
I had to adjust my study after taking Calculus online while taking his class, he is a great lecturer so be ready to carefully take notes. Very helpful during his office hours. He gave extra credit project and HW with a fair deadline. He is not easy, I had to study hard in his class to get an A, a good choice if you want to have a solid foundation.
In class we are transcribing notes. He seemed to be in a hurry, wanting to finish copying the notes as soon as possible and rush to the next class. Online assignments are counted in grades, and he will assign new assignments in class. So we have two kinds of homework. I've never felt that math made me feel so stressed. I'm almost depressed.
Probably one the best Professors at SMC take him to succeed.
Professor Herichi is an exceptional educator. His ability to convey complex concepts with clarity and enthusiasm is truly remarkable. His passion for teaching is evident in his lectures, and his approachability outside of class is unparalleled. This doesn't mean the class is easy. Attend workshops and review. I highly recommend taking his courses.
Please, take my advice and take Prof. Herichi for your linear algebra. He is a difficult professor; however, he is an amazing human being, a very generous grader, and extremely organized. I have felt blessed to have him for math 11 and 13. I will never forget his lectures. Enjoy and participate in class lectures. Work hard and you will earn an A.
If you need to take a math class TAKE HIM! Truly an inspiration and made my life easier. I AM NOT A MATH PERSON. He changed my mind!!!
Great class, Prof. Herichi is super accommodating and fair. Be prepared to go to lecture and stay on pace with HW assignments. If you don't slack and study accordingly you will do great on the tests. There is also extra credit which helps a lot. Would take again.
just as a warning from student to student, you will write 8-9 whiteboards FULL of random stuff PER class. you will get 4 tests worth 50% of your final grade, and your final is 40%. your grade in the class isnt on canvas. the classes are hours of nonstop lecture and the tests are much harder than the in class examples. if you dont love math, just no
Goated professor!! Super chill and gives lots of feedback on exams. Study guides are really helpful. Make sure you keep up with the homework and review before class. Would take again. Super disappointed he doesn't do Calculus 1.
Responsible professor. You can learn a lot from his class. Actually don't be too afraid of the full whiteboard thing, it works for me as long as everything is clear and organized. He knows what he is talking about.
Took him for 3 classes. Hes old school, mandatory easy online hw. Pay attention to the examples he brings up in lecture because he puts them on tests. Somewhat disorganized but very kind. Wants his students to succeed. Tests are not easy but there are never curveballs and he is a fair grader. Never leave a question blank always get partial credit.
I wouldn't recommend this course for anyone who isn't with a strong background in math. Even if you are strong in math I think this course would make you rethink your career choices. Don't take him.
I learned a lot from professor Herichi's class, he is a great lecturer, wants you to succeed and provided a weekly workshop for problem solving that helped a lot, detailed feedback for exams and even extra credit projects. Study hard and you will do very well in his class !
He is the best math professor at SMC and the best professor I have ever taken. He made me love math. Take him!
Have taken herichi for 11,13, and now 15. Great professor, really makes sure you learn everything out of a course. Attend office hours, do homework, and you will get a good grade in the class. Tests are somewhat similar to study guides but include challenging handpicked problems from office hours practice problems. Take Herichi!
I give him an A on compassion but just a B- on lecturing. He often went through the easy parts slow and the hards part fast. There is serious extra credit offered, but he does not replace your worse exam as some do. IMO he gives too much homework. It actually hurt me because I didn't have time to study the material that web assign didn't cover.
Great lectures, but Calc 1 requires ALL your attention. Try all practice problems AND THEN SOME. HH will answer all your questions and will find a way to convey hard concepts as long as you put in the work at home. Bottom line: practice everyday for however long you can to hammer the concepts.
Gives you an hour and twenty minutes to do 18 problems. Test was dramatically harder than what he goes over in lecture. Speeds through the lecture and just expects you to get it because he gets it. Dropped his class right after the first exam. Prepared so much and didn't even get to finish the exam. Doesn't drop or replace lowest exam with final.
He explains the material well and is enthusiastic about math. I have nothing against him, but I don't think he liked me. When I asked questions, his responses felt dismissive, unlike how he helped others. I also got a lower exam score than others with the same answers, which felt unfair.
Great guy. Very good teacher. The amount of work he gives in INSANE. You will have Webassign, book homework, and workshop work. It was honestly hard to keep up with it all. DO NOT TAKE with another 5 unit class. His tests are also very concept oriented. He's a math majors dream. Everyone else, avoid.
He is really passionate about the subject, accessible and overall an amazing teacher! Make sure to learn workshop and lecture problems(and proofs) for exams!
Great lectures, very enthusiastic about teaching and motivating! He is very accessible outside of class, caring and went out of his way to give us throughout the entire semester weekly workshops which I found them to be extremely helpful! Highly recommend taking his class, study hard and you will do very well!
Great guy and super smart but this class was just too much. Gives an insane amount of homework and his tests require so much work. Don't think he gets the memo that you have other classes to take besides his. Don't recommend if you're not good at math or can't handle a massive workload.
Wonderful professor. He is so knowledgeable and if you take his class and really try, you will come out so strong. Always available and willing to help you. Unfortunately I didn't do as well as I could have because of test anxiety, and outside stuff, but getting a good grade is more than doable with him. Lots of work but well worth it!
No curveballs. You must put in the work, but you will be rewarded. Notes are pretty goated, and he explains things in a very clear way. Proofs are rigorous but will give you the foundation for classes beyond. Attending workshops is a pretty good idea. He'll go fast at the end but he builds you the foundation so you can understand the concepts later
Professor Herichi has a great personality, but he expects too many proofs on the exams. Additionally, the notes are quite dense, which makes it difficult for students like me who aren't good at taking notes. It would be better if he properly balances the proportion of proofs in exams, as there are currently too many.
You should take him if you really want to learn and gain confidence in math.
If you're looking for a math class with zero effort and an automatic A, then don't take Professor Herichi. But if you're looking for a really smart professor who teaches well and cares about his students while making sure they understand advanced and theoretical topics, Herichi is one of the best professors you can take!
Professor Herichi was the best as he provided a lot of details, as he doesn't care if a student or I repeat, as he understands when we were confused about some of the problems, then it helps through my brain.
