her tests are very easy and guaranteed 100 on all assignments
she has an accent but not too bad, easy class, has good notes
Not recommended. Tough to understand.
Very easy prof, lectures not too useful, but good person overall
This is the most helpful and understanding prof you could possibly run into!
She was ok, kind of funny. The material however, sucked. She seemed very easy to get along with, unless you were noisy. She does have an accent, but in general, she is still pretty comprehensible.
Absolutely the best math teacher I've run into.
Hmm... how wonderful if we would just have to do more than half of the total number of questions in the exams and still score a 100% regardless of whether it's right or wrong. (Well, that was how our assignments are marked.)
she is the best math teacher i came across in my university life.

Awesome prof, best I've ever had, definitely recommend taking stats or math from her. She is so funny too and makes the course interesting even though the material is boring (stats is boring ya know)
The course is easy, but she is hard to understand. She has good powerpoint notes though.
Easiest class i have ever taken, everything straightforward with her
First Math 113 class it was a little hard to understand her because of her background, but show up to class and you'll get it, unlike Science Fac TA's. By the time i took Stat 151 w/her i was flyin' straight. Why don't they make her a fulltime prof..?
Difficult to understand and sometimes rambles off onto material unrelated to the course. However, her tests are very easy to take and prepare for, and notes on the WebCT are priceless. Shes probably the best prof to carry you through stats 151.
Great notes, very easy exams. Straightforward and cute in a little old lady way.
Excellent prof. Exams are quite easy. Notes are awesome. Best prof in science department. Cares about students' progress and concerns.
A little hard to understand at times and doesn't give very good notes. Exams are ok. She spends too long explaining easy questions and not enough time on the hard ones. Is funny and seems like a nice lady though.
I loved her, she's such a sweet prof and made everything seem so easy. She is easy to approach. Her English is excellent too and quite clear. Stats is so boring but she made it interesting.
Easiest class you will EVER take! She is super cute and explains well, then just does example after example. She really helps the students and the midterms are easy, 20 minutes long, but they could use more questions to make the stupid mistakes count for less.
Very nice, and very easy tests however i didn't find she went over the material too well. I found myself pretty much teaching myself the course. She seemed to ramble off sometimes too...sometimes super funny but other times just frustrating.
Really nice lady and I think she knew what she was talking about, but just had a very hard time getting it across to the students. And with no text book you had to depend on her. She tried but wasn't effective.
Nice lady. Probably one of the easiest classes out there. Just dont make stupid mistakes and you have a 4. Exams were dumb in the sense one mark off is 1% off your final grade - so if u blow one test you blow your entire mark.
Excellent
easiest class of life...nice lady...easy exams
HORRIBLE. could barely understand one word she was saying. not helpful at all. i went to a different prof kotovych's class the rest of the term and actually started to understand the course. yikes.
Such an easy class even if you don't go. Decent but boring lectures. Suppose to have online notes but WebCT didn't work for her?? Nice lady but goes very slowly and seems confused at times.
I didn't feel that she was very helpful and only completeled 1 or 2 example questions a class, takes so long going over the simplest things but not the harder concepts. Among the only 113 classes that were curved apparently which I'm still not sure of cause she was so unclear on that. not a bad prof
terrible accent.can't understand what she says...no text books for the class so u have to "understand" her..
I entered the class with a lot of fear(I have a natural hate for math), but I did ok.She is very understanding and helpful person and she always says hi when she sees you in the corridors. If you have problems, just ask her. She always cares about your progress.Does not curve you and exams are easier.
Great prof but it takes so long to go over the easiest things. The exams are way too easy, yea you might think this is a good thing but consider that you are being curved. When everyone gets 80% on an exam your going to get curved down 10%. Also it is a must to sit in the front row, silent talker
Couldn't understand her, taught myself everything, super nice and funny lady though.
She is really nice and funny but a little hard to understand and she goes through powerpoints really fast sometimes.
Very nice lady, but notes make very little sense. If you sit anywhere other than the first two rows your won't hear a word she says, confuses herself easily and is very difficult to understand.
unclear
Terrible prof. Her notes are basically useless, and like someone said before, I too am teaching myself the entire course with another prof's notes. Nice lady, makes herself laugh a lot, but also makes herself confused a lot too.
Her notes are awful, but they aren't hers anyway. When she taught the concept she explained how it works and it made much more sense than the powerpoint. A very nice lady(!)
i was worried about taking this class-but TAKE IT WITH HER. no assignments. questions on tests are exactly from her notes-the exact same. she simplifies and doesnt teach the useless stuff. she was really nice. sometimes a little confusing. you need above 90 to even get somewhere close to an A which sucked.
Um what did she just say? Easy class though, don't really need to go, just do it all at home. Makes her self laugh alot, kinda annoying after a while, but nice person in the end.
Almost everyone got a 100 on the midterm and the assignments, but it didn't really matter because in the end it all came down to the final and it was the HARDEST final I'd ever written. It's been a year and I still can't do those questions.
she was an okay prof who explained concepts well and was avaliable to help you outside class, her silli laugh was annoying at time, and the final was a killer but if u do well in the course throughout you can afford to get a B and still finish with an A- easy
Hard to hear and understand in class, I had to read the textbook and teach myself almost everything. The midterm was easy but the final was brutal, definitely wasn't expecting such a hard final. If you do a good job on all the lab and lecture assignments you can get away with not doing as well on the final.
Really awesome Prof. Good at explaining things. Very Very easy going and easy to get A+.

Really nice lady. Hard to understand her at times in lectures, but his helpful when you approach her after class.
super nice but you can barreelllyyy hear her.. her voice fades midsentence ... she's an allllriiigghhhtttt prof i guess. just soo hard to bring yourself to go to it because u'll for sure fall asleep... bring a pillow
Talks herself in circles, makes tons of mistakes and doesn't really seem to know what she's doing overall. Easy exams if you've already taken Calculus in high school though. She is rather nice though.
She is hard to understand, you need to sit right up front in order to hear anything fully. She goes in circles when teaching starting to go somewhere and then goes back because she forgot something. And definitely hard to go when you want to sleep in the class. If you know your stuff tho, easy multiple choice exams.
She is a very nice woman and extremely helpful. She makes mistakes, but those are very minor. For those who complains about her clarity, you should get a hearing aid. She is helpful and enjoys teaching. Read the positive comments!
She was so nice. She would print off the notes for the whole class, and tried her hardest to do well at teaching. Granted she is quiet but she used a nic so it wasnt bad. People should show her more respect though, poor woman. She was awesome!!
Lemme start by saying that Stats 141 is not a very difficult class granted you know the material being taught. This wasn't the case here and she was all over the place, often leaving students to find out answers on their own. Her notes were terrible, they didn't go through everything in each chapter and I had to turn to other teachers for notes
What is she always laughing at? She's one of the worst profs I've ever had--unfinished examples, and whent hey are finished, she often gets the wrong answer. If stats wasn't such an easy course to start off with, she would make it hell. Fortunately her midterm/final were both a complete joke. Still, avoid this crazy woman.
I always hate giving bad rating to profs that are nice people, but honestly, Dr. Y was terrible. Her notes/examples were all over the place. If it wasn't for the textbook I wouldn't have understood half the course. Avoid her if possible.
Her notes and classes were extremely hard to follow. Not very clear.
Lectures frequently seem like they've slowed to a crawl, but we still seem to be on track to finish on time. Extremely helpful and will be glad to talk with you after class, whether related to the class or not. I wasn't there for the original midterm date, so I was allowed to write it two days early - not many profs would be this generous!
This was the worst and most unclear class i have ever taken. She is very very hard to understand and i wouldn't recommend this class to anyone! On a side note she seems to be nice but this class was just crazy.
She was horrible. Her notes are extremely UNorganized.. I don't think she was even a stats professor? If you don't like lecture notes on multiple sections of a white board that are hard to follow then don't register with her! But.. not gonna lie, she was cute with her accent.
really nice prof
Yahya is ok for Math...much better than she is for Statistics! She gives good notes and pretty much tells you exactly what will be on the exams.
Her notes were scattered and useless...only good part was reviews before final and midterm. Class is extremely boring. If there is another option for a professor, take it. She is a really nice person though, just not a terrific proff.
Very cute lady. But as for knowing how to teach... Not so much. she was very disorganized and her noted were all over the place. Her first midterm was easy and the final was killer so that sucked as well.
she prints out ALL the notes for you. Very hard to understand. when she does problems, its like shes talking to herself. shes nice, and friendly. her exams are easy,so have fun competing with your class.
She was such a cute teacher, she was really interested in her students doing well and you could tell. The questions on the test are not like the ones in her notes. Her lectures go by slowly because she is unsure of her notes it seems...but it helps you understand better. Overall a good teacher.
just study all her notes, then you will be fine!after the first and second midterms, people skip her class.
This class does not require anything else but pure memorization. If you memorize everythin in great detail you are guaranteed an A+
Greatest prof at the university. Easy exams and so friendly and nice.
One of the best profs I have had in university. If you study the notes you will get an A in the class. Class average for Fall 08 was 3.3
Super... If you need math credits for your degree, I recommend to take this course with this prof! She is really into making the students PASS and LEARN!!!
hes good and interesting
A very nice woman, I have taken previous courses with her as well. The problems is she makes the problems SO simple and easy that you lose focus. She often confuses what you ask with another question and goes off topic, unless its a math of finance try to stay AWAY! Otherwise have fun and enjoy.
Just had the final for this class, it was the hardest test I've ever wrote. Completely different than what was taught in class and what was expected in mid-terms which were cake (got 100s on). Do not take if you want to go into write a final exam practically blind.
Easy midterms. Impossible final.
Best professor ever! She is very slack and puts all of her notes online. The midterms are very easy, class average is usually 90% or higher. However, the final was based mostly on the last chapter, which had 4 slides (WTF). Basically it was hard!
She is hard to understand and you fall asleep easily in that class. Her notes are unorganized so it gets frustrating to follow along
One of the best Prof's ever. She is very helpful. Exams are fair and she tells you what to focus on so you do not waste your time on something you do not need.
This was an extremely easy class. The average on the midterms were very high. The material was very easy and little work was required. The final exam was more difficult than the midterms since it was primarily based on the last two chapters. Take this course if you have the chance and make sure you understand the last chapters for the final exam.
"writes equation" this is very important *erases equation* time: 1 second
She is very good. She cares a lot about the success of her students. Highly recommended!
Very good professor. She explains things well. She takes a lot of time to help students who donâ??t get the material out. Very approachable and nice. Cares about the students.
Her notes are the best. I am an engineering student and the exams get very hard and her notes match the toughness of the exams I take. Highly recommended.
She is a great Professor. She tells you exactly what you need to focus on for her exams. No sense is wasting your money on a MASC review session since she tells you exactly what will be on the midterm and final exam. Practice all the questions in the textbook and you should do fine.
This is a very nice course. The Professor is very clear. Spend sometime studying the last two chapters for the final exam.
Extremely helpful prof!! Hafiza is one of the best lecturers at the university, soft spoken but gets her point across, her notes & examples are really good. She is also great for help before exams, you could just go to her and tell her what you're having problems with and she will basically sit and re-teach you the entire topic. HIGHLY recommended.
Very good professor clear notes, good examples, and fair exams. Take any math class with Dr. Yahya if you want to do well.
Dr. Yahya is a great Professor. Math 100 is a course where you have to show up and do the work. You cannot expect to sit there and absorb everything to do well on the exams. I worked hard and did very well on the midterm. Every class needs to be attended or you will miss something.
Dr. Yahya is one of the better Math Professors at the U of A. She is committed and dedicated to her students. I hope she teaches Math 101 and 102 so I can take them with her. This class is tough but she prepares you well for the exams. There is no need to take the MASC review sessions. She gives you all the stuff you need.
She is a great Professor. Really knows what she is doing. I hope she teaches Math 101 and 102.
One of the best math professors you can get. Her notes are clear, and she prepares you well for exams. I hope she teaches Math 101, 102, 201, and 209. She really cares about her students. I highly recommend her.
She is really good at teaching math. Her notes are great and she is kind to her students. She really cares for her students. Hope I can take more math classes with her.
She is an amazing math professor. Hope I get her for more math classes!
She is a great math professor. She is crystal clear. I arrive late to class and I can hear her at the back of the room. I highly recommend her for anyone taking math.
I highly recommend her. She has good notes, she is clear in class. You can hear her all the way at the back. The exams are okay, and she helps her students anytime.
She is the best math professor at the U of A. I was redoing the course with her and she is fantastic. Her notes are clear, she is audible even from the back, and very helpful during office hours. I highly recommend taking math with her.
She is one of the best. Her notes are great; she is very helpful during office hours and in class, very welcoming to students, and very clear in class.
She is a very nice person, and a good professor.
She really prepares you for both the midterm and final exams.
Her notes are fantastic.
A really nice professor who really cares about her students.
Wonderful Professor. Felt like i was still in high school when in her class; easy, and very understanding. I do recommend! Awesome help in one-on-one!!
Awesome Prof! Class gets hard but she prepares you; and always available for help, which is better than most profs because she has numerous hours per week.. and takes the time to make sure you understand! Recommended!
Dr. Yahya is absolutely wonderful as a professor! She explains everything very well and is very helpful. If I can succeed at this class, anyone can (be prepared to study though). Highly recommend!
Heavy accent, sit close to the front so you can make out what she says. Other than that she is good
Gave good notes
She is really nice
She is always willing to answer questions and demonstrate difficult problems from the homework. Has a bit of an accent, but I didn't find it too bad. Overall great prof and very nice person!
LOVED THIS CLASS! I always went to her office when I had questions about the web assign because she is SUPER helpful. She's very kind, smart, helpful, and clear. I would recommend her to anyone!
I loved her lectures. If you took calculus in highschool this class going to boost your GPA with her. I totaly recommend her. She is kind and ready to answer all questins.
Nice lady, she assumes you understand things she briefly explains. Decent teacher, but you have to do a fair amount of self learning. If you put in the effort you should do fine.
LOVE LOVE LOVED this professor!! UofA's finest! Excellent notes, examples and super helpful at office hours! Very kind person as well =).
Super helpful, great in-class examples, and willing to clarify any problems you might have. Pretty approachable, and also weirdly funny. If you go to all her classes and do the assignments, you should have no problem at all. Go Hafizah.
Very clear and concise, uses the textbook and clearly states what the course requires us to know. Also very friendly and helpful if you have questions!
Great Prof! Super helpful! Get to know her at the start of class, and as long as you attend her class you should be good to go, youll be lost without attending.
In class: notes are very scattered, skips over lots of important concepts quickly. Makes a good amount of mistakes etc. Midterm: very easy Final: claimed it was going to be 'straightforward' . It was quite rough. If you want to take a class and teach yourself and get an okay mark this is it.
Very hard to follow her in class, shes all over the board and writes her steps anywhere and everywhere. Very nice and helpful outside of class. Annoyingly enough, she switched between pdf notes, to ppts and then to written notes, creating organizational nightmares, especially since she moves faster through the ppt and pdfs.
Such an amazing professor, and so experienced. She teaches the hardest concepts in the smoothest ways, making learning a fun experience. She is extremely helpful and spends time with the class and/or individually to ensure understanding and success. If only she was able to teach all the math classes. Truly one of the best teachers at UofA.
I took this class in the summer, and usually profs don't care in the summer terms. But Dr. Yahya was an effective teacher who cares about all her students equally. She is so helpful, and encourages us to seek help when confused. She makes all notes available online so even if you miss class, you can catch up. Great teacher.
She is very hard to understand due to her accent. I have a very hard time following when she tries to explain something. She is however helpful and caring.
Fantastic first year math professor. I had taken calculus before, there were some concepts that I could not grasp back then however Dr. Yahya explained those concepts with such simplicity. I would recommend going to class as it helps you on weekly assignments. Do lots of practice and you will get a good mark.
In a class of 150 students, probably only 30 show up on a regular basis (almost every student went to another profs class). Very difficult to understand her and the notes she posts online she basically reads in class. However, she's always super helpful when it comes to homework and assignments.
Honestly professor Yahya is the best. Her lectures are crystal clear and her notes are out of this world. She's the only math prof that gives online notes. She shows you how to solve the toughest problems, no wonder her classes are always packed. She's always helping her students and giving effective feedback. Overall best prof out there.
Dr. Yahya is one of the best profs at the u of a. Her lectures are super clear and really engaging. She's straight forward about what you need to know and doesn't beat around the bush like other profs. she shows you how to do the hardest questions. Her online notes are super helpful when you need to cram for an exam and she's always happy to help.
Love her so much!
She was always willing to help and she helped us through tough assignments. Dr. Yahya is one of the only profs that actually cares about her students. If I had the opportunity I would definitely take her class again.
serious accent. But, clear notes.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! Her accent is so thick, her notes are so confusing, you'll be skipping class because you won't understand what she is doing. She glazes over the really hard part like we know what she is talking about. Her exams were kinda medium but that was only because I took math 31.
Can't understand her at all. If you have not taken Math 31 avoid her class. As a previous review has mentioned, she skips over the hard parts assuming that we have learned them already. I had to hire a tutor who basically taught me the entire course. She is a nice and caring prof but her lectures and notes are confusing and incomplete.
Don't take this class with her! Her notes were extremely unorganized and she did not explain the concepts or how she solved a problem. I had never taken math 31 so I had no idea what was going on.
Heavy accent. But really helpful, very willing to help you. Her exam is not hard . Overall, nice prof!
She care about her students and does her best to help you be successful. She is too the point. Lectures are a bit unorganized but her notes are amazingly helpful. Gives homework hints and tricks during lectures
Math 114 is definitely one of the more challenging first year courses, but Yahya was always willing to help. She is the sweetest lady and gives lots of help on assignment and worksheet questions. However, her lectures were quite scattered and was sometimes hard to follow. Taking math 31 in high school is a major advantage for this course.
Great professor, super helpful and is willing to go out of her way to help any students who are struggling. Has an accent but you get used to it and once you get past that, she teaches very clearly making the course simple. The exams were not difficult, and her teaching/practice exams prepare you thoroughly for them. Thanks for a great semester :)
Dr. Yahya is a super polite and fragile woman but she definitely knows her material inside out! Whenever there are questions, she is there to help and is overall just a pleasure being around. She even does a lot of the written assignment questions in class and helps as much as she can. Go to class, and she will help a lot!
Her spirit is top 1% in this world. This is a genuinely GOOD human being that WANTS you to succeed. She CARES for your success and is willing to do everything in her power to help you SUCCEED if you seek the help! Be sure to have taken math 31 if you expect to succeed because the course is heavily based on it! Work + Yayhah Success
Hafizah is the kindest professor I have ever had. She is always there to help you if you have trouble understanding anything and she'll teach you exactly what you need to know. Overall, she is my favourite professor and I look forward to taking more classes from her in the future.
Great professor! Always willing to help you with homework questions, even in class. Super helpful during office hours. Lectures are great as well!
she is the most helpful proff in my entire years of univ. education in various countries. this proff is definately the one who is always there for helping you out. she responses to ur email. and she will extend her office hours if you need her to explain as well. with a little bit of respect, you will ace the course.
she is the best proffessor wouldnt mind helping you out
she is always willing to help you with all of her best. id love to see her in my 2nd year in math class again.
Hafizah is the most sincere prof I have ever had at the U of A. She always welcomes students to come to her office for extra help if they need. She does such a good job teaching this course, it makes you consider taking higher level finance courses - that's how inspirational she is. Her sense of humour will keep you coming to class. FANTASTIC PROF!
She's a really nice personal and helpful if you have any questions. The classes are clear to follow. Definitely recommended.
She's the most memorable professor I've had in my years at the university. Such a kind professor
She's really nice and caring! She helps out with the homework questions during class. Just ask! Web assign is not bad but the weekly worksheets suck! Go to the help room and her for these. Written midterm and final. Textbook helps with the questions.
She is an amazing professor, very sweet and caring. She gave sample questions that were identical to the exams . She also gave many in class examples that helped understand the material. Overall it was a very easy class and would totally recommend it.
I'm honestly quite shocked by her good ratings. In my opinion, MATH225 with her is one of the hardest course i have ever done. Barely use eclass, solution guide to homework or lecture notes often lacks work deriving to the answer. Practice final is literally one paged, three questions accompanied with "selected textbook questions" pdf file. Avoid!
I took her MATH 225 and I am looking forward to taking more courses of her. She is very nice and caring. Whenever someone doesn't remember the past topics she always takes time to reteach her students. She reads your face and If you seem confused she quickly goes over what she has been teaching. One of the best profs in UAlberta.
She is the best prof I have ever had, hands down! She is always on time for the class and extremely caring towards her students. If you have any questions about grading or any problems she is always there for her students. We need more profs like this!
She was very nice, but her lectures were not helpful at all. Most of the lectures consisted of doing practice problems that were either left unfinished or were done incorrectly, so taking notes left you with confusing review material. She stopped communicating before the final and was misleading about the content of the exam.
She is a great prof. She is very caring and she treats her students like if they are her grandchildren/children. If you go to her office hours she is very helpful. Her notes are regularly updated and posted on eclass. If you want good grades, listen to her class and make sure you solve the example exams.
Go to class for notes, she doesnt post full notes online even though she says everything is online. Very sweet prof who gives EASY quizzes and midterm. I disliked her for Math225, but Math253 WAS AWESOME XD. Final exam was way harder tho. Just do practice and you got this!!!!!!!! GPA booster in my opinion
She's a very kind professor. There's no graded homework but we have quizzes. All quizzes and exams are really easy to solve if students understand all practice problems. If not, you may feel hard. She is nice and explain carefully when you come to her office or email her. So I strongly recommend to take her course.
She is a really nice instructor, all the quizzes and exams are almost the same style with her practice problems. If you are familiar with all problems you will get a good grade. She is an instructor that if you put more effort your grade would be better. No any horrible question and too complicated problems. Highly recommended.
She is the sweetest person I have met, she is a great prof who is very caring and understanding really goes out of her way to make sure that her students are understanding the concept of the course. her notes cover everything so no textbook required. she is THE BESSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Dr. Yahya is an exceptionally good teacher. She teaches prerequisite concepts before moving into new material and makes advanced concepts easy to learn. She uploads typed notes and problems online, making success accessible to every student. She has a unique care for students and makes the learning process fun. I look forward to every lecture.
Hafizah always made time outside of lecture time to help. Her lectures were clear and to the point. Her exams are not that hard if you study and ask for extra help.
Hafizah is one of the most caring professors I've had. She does her best to help inside and out of class. She provides SO MANY examples for every type of question. Her layout of 5 quizzes and a final instead of a midterm and final is the best way of doing a math class. Her exams are not hard if you do all the questions she provides (which is a lot)
Very good pro, patient and helpful in office hours, gives lots of practice questions before quizzes. But do attend the lecture, she neither post nor keep her notes at all.
The materials are not hard. But the slides are confusing. Some examples are almost the same but the solutions are addressed in a completely different way.
Dr. Hafizah Yahya, seems to be very caring however, her quizzes do not match up to the examples or questions from the textbook. While the textbook questions and examples are straight forward the questions on the quiz are worded way differently and often do not make sense. I took this class as a GPA booster yet its worst class.
This is my third time taking Prof Hafizah's class. Her lectures are very clear and she knows how to make complex material easy for students to understand. Also, she gives sample questions which are pretty similar to the tests. I enjoy visiting her during her office hours and asking questions. Pick Prof. Hafizah, you will fall in love with math. :)
