She made the lectures pretty fun and the class was very easy. I guess that's what you get with a bunch of morons going into business school though. Great class.
Great teacher :) I had fun in this class.
Great woman! Love that she really enjoys her job. Tries to make class more stimulating by offering 'econ dollars' but usually this just causes excess noise. Cares if you learn and encourages attendence at CLUE. Wonderful class!

Couldn't understand her damn accent. Ontop of that she speaks like she is on speed. Unclear explanations. Try another teacher.
She's such a horrible teacher! Are you guys on crack? not only her accent but she gives our busy work and makes quizes with tricky wordings. Go to sections. God Speed.
She's a little weird but overall she does a good job of getting the concept through. Going to CLUE and quiz section helps reinforce the concepts though.
great teacher, but bad TAs.
Ok she may be funny, but she treats her students like children. She'd be better as an elementary school teacher.
She's really weird and her lectures dont make sense. The sections are the only place you learn things. I would NOT reccoment this class.
Just stupid.
Didn't think she was difficult to understand, but my class was significantly smaller (35 tops) rather than the econ 201 crowd (600+ kane hall?), so that may have made a difference. She knows her subject well but gives more homework than I would prefer. It was the grader that sucked for my class, I think he/she was grading our homework stoned.
Clear teaching, quite accomodating on a personal level. Great class.
Because of this class i actually thought about becoming an ECON major....Loved the teaching, TAs were helpful, and everything was explained quite clearly.
She's a great professor. She knows what she's talking about even though the work "third" becomes the word "turd".
Awesome lectures. I love the way she says "bonds."
I like how she lets us be engaged during the lectures by having us answer questions. It's also pretty awesome that we get extra credit for answer questions in class.
i love her and her iranian accent !!!! affarin !!!
Get Econ dollars!!
I didn't like the internet set up for the class and there was no way to get partial credit for understanding the answer, it was all or nothing.
She was so cute and funny all the time, what with all the tech problems and diagrams she drew during class ("Where does the green pen go? It's a mystery!"). She makes Econ fun, really, and her stories are relevant and interesting.
She is an awesome professor! She was very personable and extremely organized in her teaching and material. I'm not a huge fan of econ, but she did a great job teaching it. I highly reccommend her.
Haideh is a great econ prof! If you go to your TA sessions and focus on understanding the topics you'll do great on the quizzes and exams. Plus you can receive extra credit (econ dollars) and the textbook is free online!
Great class, great lecturer! Lots of extra credit, pretty easy to get a good grade.
She is so awesome! I went into the class not knowing anything about Economics and came out with a new outlook on life (seriously)! She almost made a Econ major out of me. She made the subject interesting and easy to understand. It's a easy class to get a good grade in. Just be sure to read the book and do the practice probs that she suggests.
She was a nice teacher, and she made the subject as interesting as she could have. I had low expectations for the interest level of this class but I was pleasantly surprised.
I liked Econ200 more. This is usually an 8:30 class so staying awake was pretty hard. Participate in quiz sections & do the in-class writing for extra credit! I bombed my midterm (less than 50% on the exam) but got 3.1 thanks to extra credit, hw, & quizzes. For Quizzes, use Nielsen's Review, her notes, TA's notes! Its word for word! goto CLUE!
Very easy class. Nice teacher although sometimes lectures, quiz questions can be a little difficult to understand. Everything is online (lecture notes, podcasts, quizzes, articles, hw assignments). However I'd recommend going to class for the extra econ buck$.
Great professor for introductory courses. She is very enthusiastic, nice, and will try her best to get you to understand the concepts. Lectures are actually interesting and interactive, and she asks the students many questions to help them pay attention (and rewards them too). Oh yeah, econ bucks rock!
Honestly, I mostly hated the subject, but Haideh was excellent! She's so enthusiastic and really wants her students to learn. I must admit that I did (even against my wishes). Just go to lecture and section... don't bother with the book.
She's a good teacher. Kind of crazy in all honesty. She really cares about her students and will help you with anything you need. The class is a little boring, that's the only thing you should worry about. Put the effort in and you should do well.
She is a very good lecturer. Very enthusiastic and helpful. Class isn't too hard, as long as you do some examples from the book. Very useful class, because alot of concepts we learned are applicable in our daily lives.Overall, a good class to take.
she was hard to understand and her writing is sloppy economics in general is boring don't take this class. the final was rediculous
She is a nice professor, very enthusiastic. The class was way more interesting than econ 200 for sure but doesn't say much. Be sure to learn the concepts; helpful on the exams and there is extra credit. Go to clue. Be sure to take the class with a friend or make friends.
The lectures were alright but she uses really simple examples and teaches with simple numbers. It can be annoying to draw all the graphs she requires and muddle through easy problems when the concepts are what should be important. Terrible grading system, scaled. Also they mark down for trivial high-school type stuff like handwriting and labeling
Microeconomics is extremely boring no matter how you cut it. Take Haideh over Silberberg or Ellis, answer questions and get Econ dollars. Do the problems she assigns and you will do fine. I was lazy and still managed to do okay. Her lectures are fun and her stories are interesting.
This class is really, really easy. However, it could be made less pointless by getting a real textbook that is actually used and by cutting all of the online garbage. Although I didn't have to work at all to 4.0 this class, wading through all of the online stuff was a nightmare. Also, she is annoying.
Haideh was easy especially hearing that our class read five chapters less than Ellis's class. I got a good grade, but I made some clumsy mistakes. Biggest piece of advice, go to CLUE because the CLUE teacher was very accurate on predicting what would be on quizzes and exams. Also, go for the ECON bucks because 4 or 5 answers=0.1 added to your grade.
May be easy, but if you want to learn something and be treated like an adult, I strongly recommend not taking this class with her. Also, she is extremely difficult to understand.
Tough class. You need to put a lot of effort into it. Read or at least skim through the book. Go to CLUE because that helps tremendously, not to mention the quiz is basically the same from what they teach you at CLUE. Econ moolah is useful, TA's will never give you that .1 or .2 boost, haha. Pay attention in class and keep up to date.
The problems on quizzes and exams were different from the ones that were suggested by the instructor from the textbook. The TA was also extremely harsh in how she graded. This is one of the most frustrating classes I?ve ever taken. You feel you understand the theory, but then you take a quiz or exam and they take off tons of points on silly things.
She killed my interest in economics. I always felt like I understood the concepts but the quizzes and test didn't reflect that. Attending class was a chore; make sure to attend TA sections. The excessive use of online materials is a hassle to get through. Make sure to take the class with friends; just share the WSJ subscription to save $$.
SHE doesnt know what she is doing, unclear of the points and absolutely no help with clarity. She kills my interests in Economics...
NOT clear of all the topics. ambiguous wording in exam questions,
Wonderful teacher, full of enthusiasm
She is very unclear of expectations on tests and will quiz you on specific details of one particular subject/section of a chapter. You spend countless hours studying and asking for help from TA's and it amounts to an average grade. Avoid her if at all possible.
I really like this class!!! Always go to CLUE! Sometime this class is confusing but if you get it, you will like it a lot. read textbook not to get a concept but to get a example that she will always put in her quiz!
The concepts themselves are really easy. But it is almost like she tries to trick you on the tests, putting concepts we spent like 10 minutes on onto the test and stuff we did all quarter isnt on the test. I understood econ really well, but my TA graded super harsh compared to others and I didnt get a very good grade. Ellis has easier tests!
I think the easiness of this class depends on what you put into it. I feel like you have to read the textbook to understand the concepts - I couldn't just go to class. Try to go to CLUE often, I hear they have very good predictions of what the quizzes will be on. Also, the TA will either make/break your experience. Haideh is overall a good teacher.
This class is one of the most difficult I have ever taken. Haideh is cool and effective, but the grading is so strict. My T.A. was completely useless. The CLUE sessions were most helpful. Just make sure to do as many practice problems as possible because sometimes she reuses them on tests.
Easy class! Just go to class every morning, go to every section and clue section and you will do well. Also keep up with the reading, as they give you more detail about the concepts taught in class. Book is actually pretty interesting. It just sucks that 1percent can raise/lower your grade by .1 - however I'm very satisfied with this class!
Concepts are easy to understand, but the grading is hard, and her questions aren't always clear on what they are asking. The TAs are horrible, go to CLUE the teacher is great! Lectures are pretty helpful as well. Do and understand the problems she assigns from the book because they end up on the test. Overall the class is pretty good, I got a 3.0
This was the professor that influences me to major in econ. If you do the online quiz practice, then you will do fine on the quiz & exam. Also, she gives out extra credit w/out limitations. As long as you answer the questions during LC (even if you get it wrong), you can still receive Econ money (extra credit) at the end of class. :]
Excellent professor. Offers extra explanations and help. Wants to know students and wants them to learn.
Slides posted online, so I never went to lecture. Interesting class, she kind of has an accent, but she is really nice and her class was relatively interesting. GO TO CLUE and then you'll do fine with the quizzes. Exams are blue book.
nice lady. crazy accent. unclear lectures.
It's true that this is a hard class. There isn't any busy work, but the concepts take time to understand. Her lectures were fairly helpful & well organized. She offers extra credit for answering questions in lecture. If you don't want to go to lecture she has recorded lectures & outlines online. Quizzes & tests are tough so do the practice probs!
I hated this class with a burning passion. I'm not sure if it was the professor or just because of the course content, but I despised it and would never recommend this class or this professor to anyone.
I am not a fan of the subject but I had to take it for other credits. She is a nice lady and great when you talk to her in OH. She makes the class structure basic so that it is easy to get a good grade. Granted I will admit what makes the class is your TA. You can get away with reading the book and just going to quiz section if you have a good TA
I adore Professor Salehi-Esfahani! She cares a great deal about her students' learning and spends great effort to get to know her students! She was always available for help either via email or in person! Highly recommended!
This professor was very helpful. You could tell that she cared for what the students were learning. I did go to most of the lectures so I did pretty good on the quizzes and exams. Quizzes and Exams are pretty straight forward she covers everything very well
lots of reading and class materials to read. tons of work to do(in-class assignments, assignments) unclear lecture. avoid this class!!!!!!!!!!
Worthless. You can learn every topic, do every practice problem yet get docked tons of points by a ta who will not be able to understand or help in any way due to their lack of knowledge of the english language. killed the subject for me.
She knows what she's teaching, but at first it's quite hard to understand what she is saying. Definitely should read the books before coming to the lectures otherwise you'll be completely lost unless you've taken an econ class before hand. More than getting close to her, it's more beneficial to get to know your TAs b/c they're the ones that grade u
Her lectures were a bit clear and she did try to explain the concepts. We used clickers and that was 10% of our grade. Concepts are not hard to understand though she grades extremely harshly. Go to CLUE if you want to do well on your quizes and exams.
Very harsh grader, little interest in student learning, attendance made mandatory through the use of multiple clicker questions throughout each lecture. Very sweet woman, but I depended entirely on my TA for clarification of her muddled, incomprehensible explanations and was unconvinced of her understanding of the subject matter.
Terrible at explaining concepts and answering student questions. She mumbled incoherently throughout lectures, often telling pointless stories about her husband, and was extremely inflexible. Uses a good text, but insists that you use her own non-standard terminology on exams...I frequently lost points because I used wording from the textbook.
She is a good teacher and explains things well. Don't take this class if you want something easy, but it is a very rewarding class. I suggest doing practice problems at the end of the chapters.
Worst lecturer off all time. Gets off topic all the time and asks questions to the class that no one knows because she has not taught it yet. Also doesn't know how to use technology so it is very hard to follow her because she doesn't work clearly or slow enough.
Honestly just a bad teacher. Lectures are impossible to pay attention to and very pointless. She asks questions that no one knows the answers to and has an accent that is difficult to understand. Just annoying. Grading is difficult too. It isnt that hard to get over a 3.0 but if you want over a 3.5 its really hard.
This class is really challenging! She's a nice lady, but lectures are long and pretty hard to sit through. The homework projects are pretty extensive and challenging, and you really need to know what you're doing to succeed on tests.
Really boring classes which meant I didn't really go. Read the text book and keep up with the material (if you don't, your quizzes grades will suck). I hardly put any effort and managed a 3.4.. Study hard for the midterm and final.. few tricks but not too bad.
Not a bad professor, hard to understand at times because of her accent. Workload is very manageable, though, with homework every week (you can do them in groups), and weekly quizzes you have to study for. Exams are tricky! A lot of "a and b", "none of the above", "all of the above", etc. Do well on quizzes and you will be alright!
I love her! Very nice and I thought she explained things well. I always learned something from lecture. Grading is a bit specific. Definitely do book problems. HW is online and SUPER easy to 100%. Her accent is not even bad people, stop complaining. She is very willing to help students in OH. Definitely recommend for 200.
Very funny and informative teacher. She seems to go off on tangent stories but they usually serve a purpose. Quizzes can be annoying but the exams were ok. Very helpful and nice. Easy class overall.
The class is significantly different and more difficult than ECON 200. Explanations are less clear. There are a ton of formulas that are all really hard to keep track of. Some lectures were really clarifying but others just repeated the text. Quiz section was terrible and quizzes were rough. Don't take if you don't need this class as a prereq
You can definitely understand her accent so don't worry about that. Her multiple choice test questions are worded ambiguously & easy to get tricked on even if you know the material. Goes on irrelevant tangents and doesn't explain things the best. Just read the book, go to class, and you should be fine however.
She's awesome. If you keep up with the readings and do the recommended problems you will do extremely well. She's really helpful during OH's so definitely take advantage of that. My one tip to do well in this class is to not take it as a joke.
I like Haideh. She explains things in a clear manner and her accent is not a problem at all. I actually like her accent. I recommend doing the readings, printing out the lecture notes and following along, and doing practice exams. If you work hard and take this class seriously, you will do well.
Haideh was a great lecturer. She used clear examples to communicate the concepts presented in the extremely wordy book. However, her tests try to trick you. Definitely go to C.L.U.E. because it will tell you what you will be tested on.
She is a nice lady, and tries to be friendly and joke around, but teaches in a cluttered and confusing manner. Clue sessions help a lot, though. Her tests are usually tricky and almost always have one question that would be considered a trick question or a situation that would never happen in real life.
She is a nice person. Patient, passionate and nice. Professors in UW usually don't reply emails, but she replies very time. But she is not good at explaining, she does't need to explain many easy problems in such fancy words. CLUE section is like 1.5 hours a week, but instructor there can cover all stuff we need to know, and explain them clearly.
Her lecturing is all over the place and she is very unorganized. She is very nice, however, her being nice did not help my grade. I had a horrid TA and went to talk to her and she basically said too bad so sad, so unless you know you can get a good TA don't ever try to drop your GPA.
Good class overall. Neither too easy or too difficult IMO. Go to CLUE session though for Quizzes and Exams.
Her lectures are very boring and often unclear. Clue was much more helpful than anything done in lecture or quiz section. The class is not very difficult if you study by using old quizzes and exams. I greatly preferred Greg Ellis' style of teaching Economics.
Very sweet. Easy to understand, regardless of accent. Understanding. But often goes very slowly over very easy concepts, probably for less math-inclined people.
Haideh is really one of the best econ professors I've ever had the pleasure of knowing! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I took both 200 and 201 with her. She really takes her time explaining concepts and making everything relevant. Her accent is NOT a problem! Attend class, take notes, do practice exams & Qs in book and you will succeed!
She did prerecorded lectures for the first time this quarter, I personally like them because it allows you to go at your own pace but it is more time consuming. Read the book and go to the lecture and you will be fine. She is easy to understand and usually gives test practice problems.
STUDENTS HAVE TO WATCH VIDEO LECTURES BEFORE CLASS
I love Haideh but she can be so unclear sometimes. Going to her office hours definitely helps though. She was so willing to help her students even though she slipped and broke her ankle in the middle of the quarter. Such a sweet lady
Haideh is extremely helpful during office hours. However, Her lectures (both prerecorded and otherwise) are unnecessarily long. I learned more from the 2 hour CLUE study session than in 12 hours of lectures.
This class is VERY easy - all the concepts are very straight-forward. The prerecorded lectures are too long but I prefer the videos rather than listening in lectures. In the lectures we do practice questions, which are pretty useful because there are usually little variation in the questions in class and on the exam.
I love Haideh so much. She might just be the sweetest professor I've ever had. Unfortunately her tests can be REALLY unclear though. I remember getting back my first test with a 74/90, I got almost all of the points off on one question because I thought it was asking something else. Check our her page in the course evaluation catalogue. Do it!
Haideh is nice, but I HATE the pre-recorded lectures & econ dollars. Pre-recorded lecs (3 hrs/week) are a waste of time, unnecessarily long b/c she repeats the exact same thing in class. Econ $ defeats the purpose of learning, idk if ppl still care about learning anymore, raises hand before she even asks the question.. Econ$ gotta collect them all!
Haideh is a really nice and funny individual, but she's a really bad prof. Instead of covering the main ideas in lecture, she chooses to focus on tiny details that are quite irrelevant to the big picture. The pre-recorded lectures that we had to watch online were unnecessarily long. If you MUST take a class from her, make sure you get a good TA!
It is not hard to get A in this class. Her lectures may be boring, but she gets her ideas across. I studied only 2 hours per week to get A. Her videos were boring and long, but she promised to rerecord them for 2013. I would recommend her class!!
Haideh is an extremely nice professor. Although I was a novice in economics, she really stretched my thinking. I recommend that you read your textbooks; however, if anything becomes unclear, her lecture videos are very helpful. You can also visit her during her office hours. I highly recommend this class! it was such an amazing class!
Be prepared to self-teach yourself microeconomics. Video lectures are BORING. She's extremely detail oriented and does not paint a clear big picture as others have said. Make sure you get a good TA. CEC is your friend.
Nice professor who tries to make econ as clear as possible. Lectures are very example oriented. I found the video lectures not useful as they covered the same material as lectures. The exams are written in a unclear way and not much partial credit is handed out which makes getting an A on the exams very difficult even if you know the material well
This is the easiest class I have taken at UW. No teacher gives extra credit AND a review before exam! Coming from bio/chem, this class is a vacation. She might not be crystal clear but if you take time to ask her, she WILL explain! Students that recommend dropping this class simply have not taken a college level class yet.
The video lectures are overly long, a waste of time. Her examples are helpful, but otherwise the lectures are not too great. The offer of extra credit is nice, make sure to take advantage. Overall she isn't the best lecturer, but is nice and her course is for the most part easy.
The topics she introduced to class were interesting. I believe she could have squished her lectures a bit so that she could cover more topics since I felt like many of the topics were repeated. She is extremely helpful and always makes sure everyone is on the same page! Exams were mostly straightforward.
Great teacher. Presents concepts clearly and allows students to be fully prepared for exams. Very organized; really enjoyed her class.
Professor Haideh was wonderful! She teaches extremely well and gives crystal clear examples. Her lectures are really helpful, and not too boring! So that's a plus :D
I enjoyed her class! I didn't know anything about econ coming into the class and didn't find it difficult. Her lectures are very example-based and most of the test questions resemble the ones in lecture and on the extra problems she posts before the tests. The book is really repetitive, but the practice problems are helpful and resemble the quizzes!
Her lecture is clear. Just make sure read the textbook before going to the lecture which may be helpful for knowing what she is talking about in class. Be aware of TAs... I got a terrible TA, and she almost does not know everything...
Her stories are pretty interesting and she lecturers very clearly. Getting a good TA in this class is vital. They are the ones grading the tests and quizzes. I had Inhwan So as my TA. His accent was a bit heavy, but he went over the exact questions on the quiz right before the quiz itself, which was nice!
I thought she was a really good lecturer. I liked the fact that she would give us a 5 minute break in the middle of her long lectures. Make sure to read the book before class, I never did and now my grade is paying for it. Also, my TA was HORRIBLE. So make sure you get a good TA. Other than that it was a good class!
Awesome professor. Really enjoyed her. Her class was very interesting, although you do have to keep up with the readings. If you keep up with the readings and do the homework and do well on clicker questions, you'll do fine in the class.
She knows her stuff, and usually has informative lectures, but was a bit rude to me when I asked for help. The lectures were extremely boring to me, and the tests are all long free answers--so if you don't know a topic, you'll miss a lot of points at once.
She was always there for me. She was very helpful in office hours. The lectures were very informative, clear and used very good examples. Overall an amazing teacher!
She made this class a lot less quantitative, thank you Haideh. She knows her material very well, clear at explaining, but also throws curve balls for exams. Interestingnot difficult class, not much reading is needed. Fair grading, no assignments. If you go to class and study before exam, this class is a breeze.
She has a likable personality. Her lectures make sense if you read the text beforehand. The textbook is really redundant and unclear though, so you may need extra clarification. Honestly, your grade depends on your TA, so utilize your TA and Haidehs' office hours! Haideh will like you if you talk to her often. Really average class. Do the work.
I liked Econ but hated Haideh. She was a tough grader to say the least. The class "isn't graded on a true curve," however if she thinks people are doing too well on the exams she will grade harder. Not exactly fair grading in my opinion and her examples weren't always the best. Wouldn't take her again.
The textbook is INCREDIBLY redundant and not helpful. Lectures also tend to be slightly repetitive, but it's really important to listen because the content is helpful. Haideh is a very tough grader and demands a lot of specificity in quizzes/exams.
I would never take this class again, as well as it is the reason I'm switching majors. The book is incredibly unclear as well as she is so vague as to what she wants. I Will have 11 pages of suggested review problems for a test and the test is four questions . Worst class I've taken yet .
I couldn't understand her. She made it more confusing than it needed to be, and the TAs taught us how to do problems incorrectly
The longest class I have ever taken. She does not explain material well, or in an engaging manner. Most students were asleep all of lecture except for clickers. TA's struggled to coordinate answers and grading with her, as a result, she would teach different things than they would. Would not recommend this professor. Take ECON 200, not with Haideh.
The TA grades all the tests, so if you have a terrible TA then there goes our grade. My TA was not helpful at all, would get confused when a question was asked. Overall the tests and quizzes are graded really harshly and there's no curve. Not a good class and professor take it with someone else.
Haideh was a good experience but some things about this class made me itch. One was the grading system which made it hard as a rock to get a 4.0 but I still persevered and realized Haideh is a pretty great teacher even though she over explains everything.
Her lectures are OK, but they ultimately cover the same material as the book. She expects detailed answers on quizzes and exams, so be verbose. Ultimately, how well you do in this class comes down to who your TA is. If you have a good TA who knows the material and grades fairly leniently, you'll do great. If you have a bad TA, sorry.
Haideh is very enthusiastic, but her lectures are very long and tend to be slightly redundant. The book is even more so, and I found myself only using it to do practice problems. It really comes down to whether or not you have a good TA. Luckily I did, but if you don't I'd highly recommend finding another one to meet with during office hours.
Class is rather difficult. sometimes she and the TAs mess things up and it gets confusing, The book is the same as the lectures and the book isn't that helpful. The book and lectures are dry. There are clicker questions but its ok if you miss a lot of them she curves them.
Do not take this class. I worked my butt off, but because I had a horrible TA and her standards are crazy, I did not do well. She expects detailed answers and relies a lot on her TAs, so your TA really matters. She is a good lecturer and knows her material and really is a nice person if you talk to her, but just a really tough grader.
Straightforward class, tests and quizzes are graded ridiculously hard.
Haideh has a really adorable personality. While she does have an accent, I did not have any trouble trying to understand what she was saying. Lectures are very helpful. Your grade depends on your TA, mine graded tests/quizzes hard, but will tell you exactly what you did wrong. Study the quizzes and you will do fine on the exam.
The material was very interesting and she had very good examples to help understand concepts. She is a TOUGH grader! Expect to answer questions from the textbook and go to office hours FREQUENTLY! I went to office hours every week and managed to get a good score on the quizzes. She is very friendly!
Haideh is extremely nice! Lectures are crystal clear mainly because she is so redundant... Tests are pretty easy but graded extremely tough! If you have a good TA, you're set; if not, GG. Read the book, do the practice problems, think like an economist !
Meh. Tests and grading were pretty straightforward. The test format is brutal: 5 multi-part questions. Don't know something? You're screwed-- the exams are worth a HUGE part of your grade. The clicker questions were useful. The textbook was awful--terribly redundant with examples spanning 8+ pages for ONE concept. Quiz sections are VERY helpful.
The book is helpful for practice problems and repetition. Tests are impossible to get 100% on. Not an easy 4.0 but not an instant fail either.
The class is not bad and she is not a bad teacher. she explains well. My beef with her is the way she grades. She is crazy specific on what she wants and i paid the price for it on my first exam. i answered legit every question correct but was dinged so many points just for missing a word or two on my explainations
You can answer every question right on the exams and quizzes, but still get a low B on them because she focus a lot on the correct usage of terms. Overall she is a great professor, her lectures were not the most interesting but she was clear and easy to understand. Don't expect a 4.0 in this class.
She is very good at lecturing! Even though lectures were an hour and a half long it rarely felt like time was dragging on. The main problem with her teaching is her grading which felt very nit-picky at times. Make sure you pay attention in lecture so you know exactly what she's looking for or you will lose points! Overall she was good professor!
A great professor. Good at explaining materials. But exams are tough.
Her lectures are clear and make sense. However, the tests are graded ridiculously tough and will be the reason why you don't get the grade that you think you deserve. Clickers in class and quizzes in quiz sections (sometimes). Use the book and don't forget to do the online homework.
Real bad TA
She is clear in lecture and set her expectations clearly. It depends on your TA on grading and review as well, you can get a really bad one who does not help much. There were 5 quizzes a midterm and final. She does use clickers in class. The text book is encouraged but not required. If possible take a different Econ 200 professor.
Do not take classes with her online! Her video lecture are confusing & badly organized. She assigns due dates seemingly at random- very inconsistent. I only passed because my bf is an econ major who taught me the material. The average grade for the final was a 57%. I got the highest in class with only a B+. One of the worst classes I've ever taken.
Nice lady and great teacher. Econ 200, however, really depends on your TA. I nearly failed econ while my friends all got great grades. Econ doesn't really come naturally, but my TA was a tough grader so that didn't help. Regardless, Haideh is very respectful and helpful, almost motherly. You could go to her for questions and she wants to help you
she tries to make lectures a little fun but the material is pretty boring so there's not much she can do. there are lecture questions graded on correctness that are annoying. the grading is unrealistic too, you will lose 5-10 points on weekly quizzes for something that you would think deserves only 2 or 3 taken off. Not bad overall.
She tries to make her lectures interesting, but her grading criteria is really tough. You can get marked down even if you have the right answer if you don't use the words she is looking for. Getting a good TA is very important as they grade all your quizzes and tests.
Haideh is a wonderful person who genuinely cares about her students and will go to extra lengths to provide help for her students. However, the grading is impossible and I felt the lectures were hard to follow most of the time. A very tough class due to the harsh grading, I would try to take a different section if possible.
She explained all the topics in class clearly and really emphasized important ideas. There are a few quizzes (5) in the class but she drops the lowest one which is really nice! Reading the textbook wasn't mandatory all the time since most of her lectures came from it directly, but it helps! Go to class and use vocab words! And lots of graphs!
To be blunt, your grade in this class will not reflect your understanding or effort. Haideh doesn't give exams with fair (or even clear) grading criteria, and I quite often got better grades than people who put more effort in, or worse grades than people who put none in. Lectures will put you to sleep. The worst class I've taken at UW hands down.
She explains the concept bad and unclear. It is hard to concentrate on her class.
She is a FAIR grader, not a tough grader. She may test you on something that stretches your thinking, but never tests you on something she never taught. As long as you do the assignments and the readings, there is no way you will get anything below 3.5. If you got a bad grade, you should blame yourself, or your TA if you are taking ECON 200.
If your goal is to learn something, she is a great professor. She does a very good job explaining concepts, and she is always there if you need help. However, if your goal is to bring your GPA up, she is the worst professor. Her tests are mostly multiple choice questions, and the choices for each questions are unclear and sometimes arguable.
Haideh grades really specifically and her exams are so subjective it's difficult to do well. The curve this quarter was helpful, however we only received a curve because there were a lot of low scores on our final exam. I fell asleep multiple times in her lecture because of the long tangents she would go on with no seeming relation to economics.
Just going to reiterate that she's a tough grader. Lectures and hw are easy to follow but her multiple choice questions are quite difficult, nothing at all like the homework. She provides a LOT of practice material and is very accessible, so take advantage of these resources. She tells interesting stories as well and makes lecture enjoyable.
TOUGH grader. Pray for a good TA and be as clear as you possibly can on her quizzes/tests, otherwise say goodbye to points. Unfortunately had her earliest lecture so I was a little out of it, but she's an engaging professor and has interesting stories applying to the concepts. Clicker questions were frustrating sometimes; read the Q+A's carefully!
Trash. Getting a 73% on a quiz where I got EVERY ANSWER RIGHT. Pray that you can take your prereqs with someone better. Decent lectures, but will screw you over with no recourse. I will be submitting a bad course eval too. Best of luck.
This course, per department policy, is a zero-sum game - the average must be set between 2.8-3.1 within every section. Lectures are consistent, if boring, and attendance is required with proprietary digital clicker questions graded by accuracy. This is a challenging course, but Haideh is very caring and helpful in Office Hours. TAs can be hit/miss.
Although she is a great lecturer and makes you understand her lessons and concept very well, her quizes are unnecessary hard. She needs to make the instructions MUCH clearer because there would be times you would get points subtracted for an explanation for a very niche thing. If she wanted more details in the answer she should specify it.
The test is too heavy. This class is too hard. I think I will take again this class, but I would not choose this professor.
Professor was fine. Assigned lots of reading, almost no homework. The problem is she clearly does not care who her TA's are. My TA spoke very little English and was very rude when I asked simple questions. Grading is ridiculous. If you get the right answers but explanation is not matched up exactly with the rubric, expect to do poorly.
Really tough grader, have to be very specific.
Haideh isn't a bad person, at least that I noticed, but her class is unnecessarily hard. It's the kind of class that makes you feel horrible about yourself when you walk out. There's also 5 (maybe 6?) quizzes, two exams, homework every week, and in-class participation. She isn't evil or anything but she grades waaaay too hard in a hard field.
TAs for the course are incredibly unhelpful and overall have no interest in helping you learn the lecture material. The quizzes and tests are then proceeded to be graded word for word to the answer key that she creates. You end up getting docked even if you completely understand the material. Don't waste your time with her as a professor!
Even you think you know the materials really well, you still cannot get a good grade on your tests.
At first, Haidehs class was very frustrating. The ARQs are stressful, and she is certainly a hard grader. Shes pretty predictable after a while. Read the book and understand the examples. The majority of her quizzes/exams are similar to questions from the book and her PREVIOUS EXAMS. Do all her practice questions and seek extra materials
Great lectures, and super helpful if you go to her office hours with questions. She uses specific examples that are easy to remember which is a lifesaver when it comes to remembering material for the tests.
oh my god make my quarter 1 full of sadness
Ok honestly Haideh is super caring and nice and tries to help you understand the material as much as she can. Obviously Econ is going to be a hard class so don't expect to go in not trying at all and getting a good grade. As long as you go to office hours and genuinely try to learn the material, you should be fine.
Legit the worse class at UW. Heideh is fine, it's just that if your TA is trash, your whole grade is screwed. My TA refused to hear my explanations and only grade WORD FOR WORD from the answer key. Quizzes are only 20% while Exams are 60%. They don't give enough time for exams at all, so even if you know the material, your grade will prob suck
I honestly really liked Haideh. Lectures arent boring and she explains things well. Office hours help a lot too with topics you are confused on, as she will take the time to help you understand. Her tests were a little rushed but reasonable content, same with quizzes and HW.
You must attend class and have access to an internet connection for the MyEcon during class (a smartphone is good enough). Otherwise the professor was very helpful.
I really like Haideh as a person, it's just that the material is so hard. The class is meant to be a weed out but you can tell that she wants you to learn the material. The quizzes are ok but the exams are rough. Haideh tries to make things slightly interesting but... it's econ. I like her, but not the class.
Professor Haideh is great in person, but not great in explanation. Her quiz questions do not specify what is needed for a proper answer as it is shown through the answer keys she uploads. Simply writing "Why" or "Explain" doesn't mean that a student knows that he or she might have to specify the opportunity cost or law of demand. Doesn't clarify.
Her lectures are incredibly engaging and informative, and she is very easy to learn from, but you definitely have to put in the work to do well in the class. Furthermore, while the professor is amazing, your grade in the class will be much more dependent on who your TA is for your quiz section, as some TAs grade much more harshly than others.
really tough grader
Haideh is an amazing professor and gives clear examples during lecture that are easy to remember for the exams. The concepts weren't very hard but she sure is a tough grader. I would recommend her over the other professors, she is very organized and cares a lot about your learning.
To be honest professor Haideh is really a tough grader. The ARQs are very frustrating and the exams are hard too. She tries to make her lectures interesting. One small change of your quiz grade or ARQs can largely change your total grade. Other than that she is a very good person. The office hours are very useful as she cares about her students.
I took this class online due to COVID-19, this is generally not an online class. Hands-down hardest grader I've ever had but inconsistent due to TAs grading everything. If you don't give the answer word for word you will not get credit. All tests and quizzes are short answer questions with no multiple-choice and worth almost all of your grade.
Lecture heavy course, and she is Really tough grader
Haideh was such a great professor, especially with the shift to online learning. She took time outside office hours to meet with me and was very fast at replying with thought-out emails to any questions I had. She is a tough grader, but if you get to know her and talk to her outside of class she is so kind and wants the best for students.
Her lectures are okay to follow through but she is an extremely tough grader. Her exams are difficult and there are a lot of quizzes. A good TA is important to get a good grade in this course.
Haideh is a very wise and kind professor, and you can tell that she really cares about her students. However, her strategy to motivate students is through fear. She gives quizzes every week that worth 30% of your grade and they are graded almost word by word. It's as if walking on the thin ice. Don't take other weed out along with it.
The class itself has no difficult content that will frustrate you, and all the concepts and ideas are easy to understand, but her grading criteria will always marks you down, for my first 3 quizzes, I did everything right but still got an average of 70% since my answers arent what shes expecting
Quizzes are hard
Martial is difficult to understand, lots of readings. Her zoom lectures (50 min) are short summaries of her panopto lectures (1hr 21min) from last school year... she really isn't teaching. Quizzes every week 2-3 problems w/ 3+ parts , no multi choice ever. Super hard class and tough grader, I don't recommend to take especially with this teacher.
She always wants the specific words in her quiz. No matter how many words you have typed and how close your answer is to the key. Without the specific word which only she knows, she will not give u a high grade.
professor definitely gave excellent classes, however the grading is too hard and you need to be absolute carefully to get a good credit...
Haideh is nice, but in order to get full credit on quizzes/tests you basically need to have the exact same answer as the one that's in the answer key. You'll always get a few points taken off because of that.
Professor Haideh is nice but this class is just so difficult. I understand it's a weed out but there is literally no lenience with grading. Even with the pandemic, i felt that there was little grace. Exams are very difficult and she literally gives you no time. Also, it depends a lot on who the TA is & how well they can explain things
Insanely hard grader, even if you have the right answer she will find any little detail to doc you points. If you care about your grades don't take this class with this prof.
Concepts are fairly easy to grasp, and lectures are helpful, but when it comes to quizzes and tests, they are all short response and if your wording doesn't match up perfectly with what she writes in the answer key do not expect a good grade. I highly regret my choice to take this class, my GPA will definitely take a hit from this...
The lectures are not that hard. But the problem is, we have a quiz every week and prof. Haideh is such a tough grader. It's impossible for you to get 100% of your quizzes or Exams (I guess only a few people do). Also, her class is based on absolute evaluation so it doesn't matter if you relatively do better than other classmates or not.
She's nice but her lectures (both pre-recorded and live, 2x a week for each) are beyond long. She also specifically asks her TAs to grade strict on all tests and quizzes which are live and not multiple choice. Unless you recite the book, there's hardly any chance you'll get full credit especially if your TA is unforgiving.
She is a good teacher, good lectures and always willing to help. But there is lot of homework and exam, 20 questions as homework and an exam every week, very tough on grading, recommended that you learn something ahead of taking the course.
One Quiz for each week. No scaling, no curving. You don't know how you lost points on your answer. Hard to get perfect score on a given quiz or test. Get only half credit for homework when you missed it due to technical issues. Think it twice before you register.
Makes you do a lot each week. One quiz a week and one online assignment a week but she expects you to do more outside of class. Grading is STRICT for quizzes and tests. If it doesnt resemble what theyre looking for, you will not get points for it. Barely any feedback for quizzes.
Haideh is a very hard grader. The class average was about a 65%. There are quizzes every week and hw qs. You are expected to read the textbook, answer a bunch of questions on the chapter, watch a 1 1/2 hr lecture, and attend her 1 hr zoom meeting (all optional). However, Haideh is very willing to help and makes sure you understand in office hours.
Don't let her kindness fools you. This online class is devil's works.
Was expecting this class to be harder than it was honestly(STEM major). Lectures are long and pretty dense but she has Q&A sessions and you can get away with not really paying attention if you go to them. Your TA grades everything, if you get lucky they'll give you specific feedback. One homework a week, six quizzes with a drop, two tests.
Econ200 is not a conceptually difficult class. In fact, after taking it I fully believe I could teach a friend all of the material in a good week or two. The hard part is the grading; you can lose points for a correct answer if you use different words than she is looking for. Grading is very TA dependent. Haideh is nice, but would not recommend.
I was scared of the quizzes because of the reviews about being a hard grader. I do agree with it, they have strict grading expectations, but overall I really enjoyed the class! She is a very good lecturer and has a passion for teaching, the way she explain things is very helpful as she connects it with her own personal experiences! Great professor!
Haideh is a tough grader. You'll get points taken off if you are missing the words that she's looking for. Her lectures are good, she connects them with her personal experiences. Easy to reach outside of class too.
Doesn't want you to succeed
The exact opposite of the empathetic and accommodating professors you remember for years to come. I once didn't understand why I missed one point on one quiz, and after 3 emails back and forth was essentially threatened that if I didn't go away my grade would be lowered. At no point was I given an explanation.
