Best Math professor ever! Take his course.
Wonderful. He made me actually like math. His enthusiasm was infectious and really helped me in this course. I couldn't have done it without him.
He's definitely an interesting professor. Obviously very passionate about what he teaches. However, he expects a lot out of his students. Be prepared for a lot of work. The TA is very helpful though and the professor takes time out of his day to help students with questions.
Good at some topics, confusing in others. Beware: moves through material at a fast rate
Amazing teacher! I would go to office hours simply to do my homework. They were always scheduled to be two hours long, but he would stay for four or five. Very dedicated teacher; enthusiatic.
He is an amazing instructor. However, he expects a lot out of his students, so expect to study a lot. If you ever take him, be sure to focus mainly on the theorems and how each of them work or fail.
Amazing teacher. Expects a lot out of his students but is willing to help every step of the way. Very passionate about his work and his love of math is .....dare I say it? InFECtious.
Haik is an awesome instructor, and he is super clear and gives great explanations. He tells you exactly what he expects of you; as long as you pay attention, are relatively astute, and do the hard work necessary (i.e study and do the homework), there's no reason you shouldn't get an A in this class.
He was an amazing professor. There was never a day in class where he wasn't interested in teaching the subject and the students weren't interested in learning from him. I always came into his test knowing what to expect and there were never any surprises. His HW was very helpful to my learning and the TA was awesome.
You will never know what to expect on exams; material tested is above and beyond what is "taught". He rushes over subjects giving lots of unnecessarily difficult examples and little explanation of how to solve/prove them. Answers questions incompletely and rudely. Course is intended for students who have taken and done well in calculus and algebra.
Haik works very fast paced but he explains everything thoroughly. He really wants you to succeed. He tests very fairly and very straight forward. There are no tricks. Though it may be discouraging that he lectures at such a fast pace, he is always available for questions and he is more than helpful in ensuring that you have a good grasp of material
Hands down! best math professor I ever had in college. He is gives clear explanations of the required material and more. If you are really interested in math, he is the right professor for you. Expect to work hard in his class because he gives the longest hw assignments, but you will get an A if you do them the right way.
Haik is a very smart professor, and is a fairly skilled lecturer. However when it comes down to the tests, that's where many students WILL FAIL. The tests are hard in that they go beyond what should be expected for a calc 1 student.
Teaches as if students were at his level. As a first year student that came into this course with no experience in calc, his teaching methods were EXTREMELY confusing. Be prepared to be completely lost in his lectures. Tests are EXTREMELY difficult and most students fail them. Even with days of studying for his final I managed to fail miserably.
Great Professor! Very clear and would suggest taking his course.
Haik is one of the greatest professors ever. People who complain only do so because they haven't put in the effort. Haik expects a lot from his students because he thinks highly of them. He wouldn't insult them by making things too easy. He is readily available outside of class and is extremely enthusiastic.
People are not lying when they say he is a difficult professor. He makes your brain want to pop! Learning basic skills are not enough, you need to practice and go above and beyond. I failed miserably.
It is clear that Haik loves his craft, but that can make things very confusing for a student who is not a math major (or isn't "good" at math). I found myself struggling throughout the semester. Would recommend studying vigorously for this course. No midterms or final, which is a plus, but the way he graded made it impossible to slack off.
Haik is an enthusiastic mathematician and a fantastic teacher. It is easy to get lost if you're not attentive (and even if you are), but he is more than happy to help out in office hours and is excellent at explaining. Homework can be tedious but doable and there are no exams. You cannot slack off in this class if you wish to pass.
First off, the class is insane. MATH 023 is easily the hardest class at UCM but the complete lack of tests made the class much more bearable. The homework assignments are, however, incredibly difficult. I spent every other week doing nothing but the homework sets (library 247 for a week).
Haik is a really good professor. He may be intimidating, but he knows what he is talking about. He is very knowledgable in math. He really wants his students to KNOW the material- not just memorize stuff. It's tough, but he is always there to help.
Haik is such a good professor, honestly if you don't pass his class it's because you didn't try. He has 4 hours of office hours a week. He is very helpful, patient, and understanding. Best math professor at uc merced.
Don't recommend him at all, expects you to solve all the problems as if you are a math professor. Have to go to office b/c he won't explain everything in class. Very judgmental & says "If you can't solve a problem like this and think ahead, don't bother going to Med school." Why judge, are we not smart enough? Studying hard, stillfail. Grading
Haik is rude professor and extremely judgmental. Went maybe 5 times to his office hours and stopped going because he just made me feel dumb. I started going with Derek instead and was able to pass thanks to him.
good lectures, helpful in office hours, assignments are long and difficult
I took him for vector calculus, and honestly that class was a joke, To EASY!!. Haik has watered down the material, Exams are too Easy, he is an easy professor. He wants people who are honestly not college capable to pass and therefore makes lectures and exams too primitive. His exams are at a high school level.
He goes through things very fast and had quizzes worth 65% without anything like homework to help balance grades or practice. The final was difficult and worth 35%. That is all he had for the semester were weekly quizzes then the final. There were no midterms or homework. He changes things every semester so you never know what to expect.
Took in Spring 2016 and it was a ROLLERCOASTER. Went to both lectures/ multiple office hours and spending hours outside of class to nail the material down.. this class was enlightening. Haik's excitement only made me want to learn more. It's a shame I'm a bio major otherwise I'd have taken math 23 24 etc. PUT THE TIME IN. Hardest I've ever worked
Hardest work I have every put into a class. I hope I pass. I took the final and it was exceptionally hard unless you understand the creative aspects of the problems. I went to every office hour and not even sure that I passed. I am awaiting my score for the final hoping that I pass.
Haik's class has to be one of the most difficult lower division math classes I have ever take at this university, not because of the content, but because his teaching style and methods used. Doesn't explain his derivations very well and gets frustrated when you ask questions. Attendance not mandatory, but you're better off learning from the book.
In my opinion, I found Haik to be inspiring. Most of the time he comes to class upbeat and excited to talk about math which makes it interesting to learn. However, make sure you pay attention and practice by doing lots of math problems. He makes sure every detail counts because a "careful student minds the details." If you have questions, ASK!
Haik's love for math is insane. I just took his class and passed with a B-. This class was insanely hard the work you have to put in is insane. I didnt study for my chem or bio final because of this course. Everything you do in discussions is pointless because the only thing that matters is passing the final, if you think you can slack goodluck.
Haik is extremely tough, but only so you can thoroughly learn the material. I was so close to dropping bc I had an F. But after studying and going to tutoring for the final, I ended up with a B- in his class. Going to lecture isn't enough you have to take the time to go to tutoring or studying outside of class. Don't be discouraged! Ask for help!
I will NEVER take him again. Took Math 12 because it was easier than Math 22 but I feel like this one was harder in my opinion. No midterm which may sound good but in the long run isn't because that makes final and quizzes worth a lot of your grade!
If you don't do well on the final you will fail.
Haik is hated by many students because of the way in which he structures his class. He does not give midterms, this is a method where all the stress is put on the final, at the very end. It gives you time to study for all the other courses you may have. Only take him if you are willing to LEARN the material, don't take him otherwise.
I was scared to take his class at first. But truly, he is not bad at all. He cares about his students, and is willing to help! To do well attend ALL lectures, study for each quiz in discussion for two hours prior, ASK questions in lecture, and go to the math center. If you want a good grade you have to work for it.
People will tell you that his class is one of the toughest on campus. This is a flat out lie. Go to lecture, and make sure you're paying attention in discussion and you will have no problem getting an A.
The quizes determined my entire grade, didnt take the final due to a high grade. Make sure you study for the quizzes, every section is graded on a curve so your grade is likely not as it appears
His worksheet problems are really hard, and the quizzes are hard too.
Good lectures, passionate about math. Study for the quizzes and you will do fine. He is available in the math center. Make sure you know your algebra, or else you will probably struggle in this class. The final is structured so if you do well on the quizzes, you will pass the class.
Incredibly enthusiastic and passionate instructor. But one of the toughest professor's I've had. Keep up your studies, do well on quizzes, and try your best at the very difficult final. I was not a fan of his methods, but he cared a lot for the class and wanted us to learn. Don't be swayed by the difficulty. Put in the work, and you'll do fine.
I heard both good and bad things about this professor. Took him for math 24 this semester and it was the most difficult class I've taken. I went to office hours and the math center multiple times and yet to no appeal. His curve is made to have most of the class fail. Advice, avoid him at all costs. I'm staying another semester now because of him.
Best professor for Linear Algebra & Differential Equations. If you pay attention, attempt the problems assigned and actively ask questions, you will learn. Dont be discouraged by the negative comments on his teachings. Those probably came from students that simply wanted to memorize steps for problems rather than learn the proofs and concepts.
It's not easy but learning what you learn in Haik's classes will make your other classes his material applies to a breeze because you will understand what you're applying and how you're applying it.
Worst professor I've ever had. Haik assigns problems that are nearly impossible to solve and makes students feel dumb for not understanding the material. Avoid at all costs.
terrible professor, skip him at all costs.
I regret leaving a negative review of Haik earlier. He cares about his students and wants them to learn. That being said, you will be stressed out from not knowing how well you are actually doing until final grades have been posted.
If you can get Math 12 with a different professor, switch as soon as possible. Haik's lectures are confusing at best, and you'll most likely have to teach yourself the concepts. Your entire grade will be dependent on quizzes and a final, and the worksheets given have no answer key, so there's no way to tell if you're right. Transfer out if you can.
This was one of the hardest classes I've taken so far. The worksheets are hard and they go beyond what you learn in class; however, if you attempt all problems you will be fine. His lectures were engaging and I looked forward to class. His grading system is wack, but he really cares for his students and wants them to pass. Take Haik if you can!
You have to put in the work for this class not because of Haik but because of how dense the material is. Do well on the quizzes from the start to give you cushion. Attend lectures, office hours, and the final is 40% but he does some "curve" to get a lot of people to pass. It's not as bad as rumored. I was scared at first. Im glad I took it w/ Haik
Haik is a funny guy. He tends to go off on a bit of a tangent during lectures but overall will keep you engaged. Your best bet when taking his class is to study very very hard for the quizzes throughout the semester. DO NOT rely on the final exam to fix your grade, its typically challenging. Use office hours to your advantage!
This was the worst class I have ever taken. I was at a 95% no thanks to Haik, because I had to teach myself everything. He is an awful professor who goes on constant tangents and could care less about his students. Get a different professor if you can.
The biggest lie of your life will be that professor Haik "is too hard". I was sincerely worried about taking his class because of all of these comments and bcs I struggle with classes in general. However, he gives us quizzes from problems that come straight out of the homework. If you don't understand something, go to his OH he's a really cool guy.
Frustrating professor. The entire semester you do not know what your grade is in the class so you do not know if you are performing well or not. How are you supposed to know if what you are doing is working if you get no form of feedback?
Please do not hesitate to take haik because of what you hear. He is literally one of the most caring professors. He curbed the class so heavily and rescaled the class so no student would be harmed. His lectures make sense. He answers all questions you have. He just wants to make sure everybody learns the material and he's very supportive.
Attending lecture is extremely vital for his classes! He constantly reminds his students that the material talked about in lecture is exclusive & wont appear in other courses/materials. Lectures are fast-paced/tough & can be fun (he does go on tangents). Make sure to review your lectures notes after every lecture. He really isnt out to get you.
Best teacher of my undergraduate career. Was a difficult class, if you don't stay active you will not understand the material. The class is hard for a reason and prepares you for upper div classes. He makes you feel respected and intelligent. Bottom line, he knows you can do it. He just doesn't appreciate laziness and shortcuts.
Haik has created the worst possible course outline for any student ever. In my course, 50% of the grade was quizzes. The quizzes were only two questions. This means if you made any mistake throughout the entire course on average, you would fail. This is a warning: avoid this professor. He may be a nice person, but his design of the course is bad.
Haiks a nice guy, but is unorganized and has unfair grading policies. Quizes are 50% of the grade and they are select all the true statements, and only 2 points for 2 questions. He also doesnt like to listen to students and does what he feels is best without listening to the students. I have heard he curves classes hard, hopefully ill get lucky
Haik is the worst professor I've ever had. 50% of ur grade is based on quizzes and if u miss one question you fail the quiz. His quizzes are worded bad and very hard. The mean is always an F or below for the class . He does not want us to pass
I got a a 5/140 on the final and passed with a C. Tells you all you need to know about the class and how its set up.
Ok I know he has a bad rep and everything but to be honest, he is pretty good. His lectures are all on discord/youtube so you can look at them during a quiz. He rounds up and curves the class so it's rare to fail. I think majority of his class has an A- or better! He is understanding and there's not much homework. Most grades comes from test.
Definitely one of the hardest professors I've had thus far; my class was cut short due to COVID and that made learning calc 2 harder than it already was. His final was awful in my opinion -- 30 multiple answer questions with 65 minutes -- I barely finished and he had to curve the final. Watch out for the pop quizzes!
Makes you work for your grade. He had pre recorded lectures that he would post for the week and creates quizzes every week that are based off of lectures but he doesnt create questions that are number problems but rather conceptual questions. Discussions are mandatory too and you have to participate in order to get credit
Haik cares for his students and is understanding, especially during COVID. Although the material in the class is difficult, he drops 3 quizzes and a midterm and doesn't have a final exam. Some of the questions on his quizzes and exams can be frustrating though. If you're close to the next grade, he'll bump you up.
He is a great professor, makes everything relatively easy to understand using concepts and visuals. His quizzes are definitely tough, but the questions are directly from lectures and homework, so if you complete them on time and understand the basics of what he is teaching you, you will do fine.
Haik is a great if you care about learning the subject. If you understand the ideas, you can figure out how to do any problems he poses. Homework is important. He's very forgiving for algebraic mistakes, but expects that you understand the main concepts of the material. He answers questions about the material kindly too.
Honestly, this man will be a menace to your GPA if you are nothing willing to bend over backwards for his course. If you are learning from your dorm room reading off of class' slides, you are screw, but attendance is not mandatory. The TAs however will hold it against you - your attendance are recorded to the financial aid office. Be weary.
This class is so easy, TAs skim through the homework. Quizzes are copies of homework questions. Midterm are the same as the practice midterms with the addition of a handwritten homework problem. Homeworks are ironically much harder than exams questions. Extremely accessible outside of class. Overall great professor (No Final btw)
go to the lectures. all of them. he runs a hard class but he understands the material like you wouldn't believe and can break it down to a point where honestly it was easy. i think I only asked one question all semester. haik is very enthusiastic and will explain things further after the class is over too.
If you show that you care, he will pass you. Very hard class recommend to those who want to learn.
Took math23 and math32 with him in the same semester so his midterms were all on the same days. I do not recommend taking multiple classes with him in the same semester. Very tough but good professor, learned a lot.
Tests, he is the absolute worst. Will give you review questions that don't correlate to the midterm. The review session doesn't correlate to the midterm. When your midterms are worth 30 percent and is only four questions, give us stuff that doesn't set us up to fail. Also he is bipolar af bc he will say don't rely on the textbook but you must
Haik is INFAMOUS at our campus for being the toughest grader and having the lowest average test scores across ALL courses he teaches. HWs are very lengthy, avg. of 40-50 questions. Rarely posts his notes, so if you don't go to class, you're screwed. Worksheets are posted on the day it is due. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS if you want to keep your sanity.
Haik is very knowledgeable and is alwasy willing to exapnd on topics so long as you put effort in. As long as you go to lectures and do the homework you will be fine.
Haik is known for being the toughest grader and having low test scores with no altered grade schemes. Disregard other reviews, AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COST.
Attend lectures! Haik's a great teacher and a decently lenient grader. His tests are curved, but I can't say if this will continue for future semesters. The tests are easy enough if you understand the subject, even just partially. I'd also recommend his office hours.
its only 15 days into the semester and I just want to be stranded on a deserted island. just switch your major if you have to take this class with him. save me.
Despite the rating I gave Haik, I believe he is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he's teaching. However, his teaching style is not fit to leach lower division math. He asks people to write nothing from lecture down, just observe and then read the book later. He gives homework the week of exams, and does not curve anything.
This is the worst professor I've ever had during my time at UC Merced. His grading was extremely harsh. You basically get no credit or full credit. His syllabus says homework assignments are like 15-20 problems, which is an fat lie. Expect 30-40 problems. He tries really hard to be organized, but just turns out to be a failure. Takeaway: LIES A LOT
Condescending. Takes forever to get to the point. Unorganized. Even the TAs don't like him lol. Exams are easier than the homework, but that doesn't mean the exams are easy. No curve. Did I learn a lot from his class? No. Only reason I passed was because I taught myself. Useless professor. Knowledgeable, but very useless.
Haik is very knowledgable and passionate about math. He is a mathematician after all. But he is extremely condescending and acts like you should know the material. Extremely harsh grader.
Great guy, passionate about math and pretty good at teaching but he is a VERY difficult professor who expects students to know ALL prior material thoroughly. If you struggle with math, you will struggle in his class.
Only take Haik's class if you want to listen to theory all lecture. He is a physicist teaching math to engineers and math majors but does not teach application of the math. Should stick to teaching upper division math classes only.
Haik is a professor who is passionate about all things related to math. However, he is extremely condescending and acts like you should know the material. He told our class that we should have been expected to learn the formulas to every shape in middle school (like cones, cylinders, etc.). Tough grader and the exams are 60% of your overall grade.
he is good at explaining things but sometimes he overcomplicates it and totally confuses you
Very straightforward and wants students to participate. A little confusing but is very open about office hours. Test almost every other class.
I had Haik for Calc 2.This was a difficult class, but I was able to enjoy learning the material by going to his office hours for help and utilizing the Math Center. He is down to earth and an amazing teacher who is understanding. He tried out a new system that I think worked very well for our class, where retaking tests were a main part of it.
Haik is a great professor, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. His tests are hard, but I've heard that he has recently started to opt out of having midterms and finals.
He has a great system that should work. But he is just a terrible lecturer. by far the hardest class I've taken even linear algebra was easy compared to this. He is also a VERY harsh grader and the assignments are all or nothing. I do NOT recommend!
Haik is a great teacher, who is passionate about the subjects he teaches. That being said, his classes are hard, because they too are built for those who are passionate about math. Realistically, they are not for the average person; you will work hard. All in all, he cares about you, your understanding, improvement, all while being fun and kind.
I really don't like this man. 80% of the grade comes from bi-weekly quizzes that, while retakeable, are INCREDIBLY harshly graded- with no input on what you did wrong. Finals introducing way too much new content (going against the promised grading system). Weekly homeworks are harshly graded too- one question marginally wrong, and instant 0. Ugh.
Prof. Haik really cares about whether or not his students are actually learning, but this semester has been rather rough for both him and us students, he has taken on too much work by himself instead of sharing them with the TAs, and I believe a great number of us students are dreading our grades right now, as the adjusted grading scale is unknown.
The most unfair math professor at UC Merced. Grades you on very few things and is still a tough grader. 80% of your grade comes from bi-weekly quizzes and he does not give any partial credit. One mistake and it's an automatic zero. Same goes for homework, only worth 10% and will not be graded if it's incomplete. Do not recommend!
His lectures will have you more confused walking out than before you walked in. Most of my learning of Calc3 came from videos and doing practice problems. He overly complicates everything. Despite lots of studying, his problems are still complex. On the final, we only had 1 attempt to solve 4 problems based on topics we weren't as familiar with.
whole class was graded based on 10 quizzes and each one is all or nothing(can retake every 2 weeks). graded pretty harshly as one error could give you a 0. the main issue i had was that 4 of the 10 quizzes all happened on finals day without any chance to retake (all the material was crammed in the last week). DO A LOT OF PRACTICE PROBLEMS IT HELPS
Really tough grader and crammed way too much material in the last week! Lectures were confusing and went through notes fast. Mastery topics were worth 80% of the class and were graded really tough. Homework was also graded tough and took up hours of time. Do not recommend.
Not sure how many student's Haik is paying to give good reviews, but they are not accurate to his class. Horrible grading scale, horrible attitude and just all around a bad class experience. Passionate, but is overwhelming for lower division coursework. Knowledgeable in his field, but not a great professor. Avoid his classes if possible.
This class was a huge mess. He didn't spread out the quizzes well and for most of the semester we were working on 4 topics. The final introd 40% of the course material with no chance to retake it. If you didn't do the problem perfectly, you get a zero. No partial credit at all, going against his "mistakes are good" mindset throughout the semester.
Please, if you currently have him for any class or you're going to take him drop him. Save your sanity. Horrible grading scale. Homework so so much for little reward.
Very difficult way of teaching for someone who doesnt know much. Makes it very difficult to understand!!!
I liked the class a lot. Grade depends on mastery quizzes worth 80%, but you can retake failed questions every 2 weeks. Con, quizzes are pass/fail, no partial credit. Answers are only correct if done w/ same methods taught in class. He teases students, but is nice. He knows his math. Put in the work & you'll be fine. Do the homework, it helps.
He expects you to have mastered every topic before his class, he seems to forget that he's been studying this for years and we've only been at it for like 3.
He moves really quick through his lectures and it's hard to keep up with him. However, he is willing to work with you. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He has an all or nothing grading system, but if you put in the work you will be fine. He is super intelligent and wants his students to work hard. Just don't be lazy and you will do good.
Haik is a friendly guy, his lectures go too fast to take notes, zero partial credit for anything, never curve (pain for him), old tests not given before next test, multiple tries is great but changing the problem style sucks. Overall, avoid if possible but I guess if you want to know stress, take this course.
I've taken his class three times: Math 21, 23, and 24. He's taught me more than any professor here. He's tough, but. his proctoring truly has reshaped my study habits. He knows his material deeply, and if you commit to his challenging lectures and homework, you'll love his class, If you don't attend lecture and don't do the work you will HATE him.
Don't take any class with this professor; it's a guarantee of failure; he gives lots of homework that is worth almost nothing. Everything is either a one or a zero, with no in-between and no partial credit given whatsoever. There are no midterms; there are quizzes once every two weeks that count for 80% of grades, and solutions have to be specific.
Haik acts condescending in his lectures to students who are falling behind on math topics and goes extremely quickly when teaching, too fast for me. Study before lectures or you will be confused. I liked the use of mastery topics, every two weeks you get one question on a certain topic & can retake in later weeks. Otherwise, I don't recommend him.
Haik is genuinely a very talented and knowledgable professor; you can tell he has a strong understanding of the topics he taught us. His whole "mastery topic" niche just completely sucks as not only does the class go quickly but given only 2 weeks per mastery topic and you can also get up to 3-5 new topics in 2 weeks. Lots of homework, not worth it
Ur grade is just the mastery topics
Had Haik for fall 24 semester, was a bit of a tough professor, he rewrites the same notes that he has already uploaded and during lecture it makes it frustrating because he NEVER answers question during lectures, if you ever need to take this class and have him as the only professor available, its best to wait til the next semester.
This isn't an easy class to pass but if you put the work in and try hard throughout the semester you'll do well in the class. The mastery topic quizzes can be challenging but you can attempt them as much as you want, he also emails a list of things you need to know for each topic a few days before the quiz.
Math with Prof. Haik can be a real challenge, but using tools like Unstuck AI alongside the textbook helps a lot. Expect a tough grading scale, but engage with the material and you can pull through. Overall, a demanding yet rewarding class.
His class was a big time sink. But if you need to take a lot of math, I think it's worth it in the end. Unlike a lot of lecturers he actually understands the material, so he gives you the tools and explanations that are most useful. Compared to most, the work is harder but the lectures and notes are much more focused and helpful.
The professor is ok but his class structure not so great, 80% of grade are mastery topics which you can retake but even one single mistake gives you a zero. The hw can be long but also more than 3 mistakes gives you a zero. Retaking mastery topics sounds good at first but if you don't past them they keep stacking & end topics have less tries.
Took him in summer; class structure differed. He's firmly against partial credit and discourages online resources, which feels unrealistic. Lectures mostly follow the book but sometimes go off it, and if you're not strong in math they're hard to follow.
I took him for Calc 2 and dropped in weeks. Unless you are amazing at math or dedicate countless hours, you will not do well. Your entire grade is ONLY 3-point quizzes, he offered no extra credit or retakes and grading only got harsher. He cares for students but goes to fast and expects too much work from students. Steer clear of him if you can.
Haik is a really good lecturer and you can tell he's really passionate about what he does, but the class this far is pretty difficult. He only grades us on weekly quizzes and nothing else. The grading on quizzes is all or nothing for points. I'd recommend studying the textbook problems repeatedly, and go to office hours if you can.
He's overall a good professor. There is no midterm or final for his class. He just lectures pretty fast, does not give partial credit on quiz questions, and the quizzes are every week in discussion with all of them being worth 3 pts each.
This class was challenging, however I think that Haik is by far the best professor to teach Math 012. His class is structured differently than a regular class; we were only graded on 3 point quizzes and nothing else, including no final. He cares a lot for students, and sets curves for each discussion which determines you final grade. Go to lecture!
avoid haik if you can
Haik is a genuinely caring professor who truly wants to see his students succeed, without worrying about being overstressed or about the small mistakes they can make when solving a problem. There are opportunities for extra credit, fair grading, and lectures that actually make sense, even if you're bad at math. I learned more and enjoyed math more.
Being in his Discussion was genuinely the best thing ever. I have always struggled with math. Haik noticed that and made it his mission to be sure I could catch up. He was always available before discussion in the STEM tutoring Hub for extra office hours, and he tutored my study group personally while we were there. He was also a very fair grader.
